Voting Question: How frequently can I travel by air during pregnancy?

I am 22 weeks pregnant, and I have already travelled 4 times by airplanes during this pregnancy. 1 of them was international and rest domestic. I have another official domestic trip coming up soon. I asked my OB and she said that it was ok to travel. ut I read in a few places that frequent fliers might be at a risk of radiation in higher altitudes. Can someone tell me how frequesnt is too much? In my case I have almost travelled once during every month so far. So does this sit into the category of "frequent" during pregnancy? I do not want any risks to my baby at any cost. Can folks give me any actual experiences? Cheers Ami more

Resolved Question: generally confused and looking for some help.?

I went to visit my fiance for a month, I was at near the end of my ovulation window when I got there, we did have sex on the very last day of that window. My period was due on the 14th of Sept. on the night of the 13th I had very light spotting, and some very light bleeding on the 14th and the 15th, but then it just trailed off after that and by the 16th there was no spotting at all. Around the 19th I experienced some mild cramping, and after then feeling nauseous off and on, bloated and my boobs have started to progressively become sore. the night of the 26th I had a horrible head ache and ended up vomiting, I also had a pretty good amount of extra discharge that was thick and clumpy (white). We continued to have sex, sometimes during I would feel like I was literally about to puke the nausea was so bad. I had another ovulation window that was at the end of my trip and we had sex through that as well. I have been very gassy, and on my flights back home when I was in the air i felt a very noticeable feeling of discomfort and some mild cramping. I had to pee very frequently on the plane ( I felt bad for the people sitting next to me) I don't know what to make of all of this. I really thought after what I experienced when my period was due that I was pregnant. I have flown before and my periods after travel have always been normal, so even though i know you could blame the stress of travel for the 2 days of light bleeding, it doesn't seem right to me. I have taken home pregnancy tests, and went to planned parenthood today to take another urine test. all came back negative. I would have thought it would of shown up by now if I got pregnant in the begging of September, but I do realize its possible that I didn't but with the chance that I did get pregnant at the end. And the feeling on the plane, possibly implantation? I have no idea, and the dr. wasn't any help, all they said was to test again in 2 weeks, and i have enough brain cells to come to that conclusion myself. I'm looking for people with real advice, and possibly have had this happen to them before. Or just really any other opinion that test again later. thanksby clumpy I didn't mean solid or anything like that. it was the consistency of regular discharge, just a lot more of it. I understand that some people may not think I am pregnant, but that doesn't explain why or what is going on. plus it's all really a matter of opinion, I have had another nurse tell me today that it is still very possible that I am, other people on this site say I am and some say I'm not. It seems like there are a lot of people on here that are hoping for kids, and possibly some that just think no one is pregnant. Unfortunately, planned parenthood don't like to hand out blood tests or ultra sounds. I wish they did, but being able to give someone a solid answer takes up too much time I suppose. I sound very cranky, and I kind of am. I'm still hoping for people that have had children, or are pregnant to help. not people who are like me hoping for kids. sorry, but I want real personal experience. more

Resolved Question: Can you really get pregnant like this?

Ok, so I was on the bus and overheard a (loud) convo between two young teen girls who were discussing dry sex. A loud convo like that on the bus is a little hard to block out. Anyway, they were discussing how if a male wearing no clothes or condom had dry sex with a girl wearing thin underwear and he came on the outside of her underwear over her vagina; if the girl would get pregnant. They were discussing it with what they must have learned from Sex Ed or Biology or something; and were saying how the girl could get pregnant if the semen leaked through her underwear or came into contact with her vaginal fluids, seeing as sperm travels through semen and vaginal fluids. And I know its wrong to listen in and perverted to think about but they were being rather loud and my Ipod which I usually listen to on the bus to block out noises broke. But anyway, I assumed sperm dies when in contact with air and for a likely pregnancy it would have to be ejaculated near the cervix in the vagina. But am I wrong? Is it possible for a girl to get pregnant from sperm traveling through semen and vaginal fluids on the outside/at the entrance of the vagina? It isn't is it? more

Resolved Question: Dreaming of having a child and a kite on a beach?

These are two seprate dreams. Usually Im quite good at working out what they mean or going through sites to get the correct interpritation. Dream One I was on a beach with my mother and father, who were walking side by side, not touching. They divorced when I was twelve, they hate each other, my brother who is also theyre child and my sister who is my mothers with another partner wern't there. I was holding a kite, that was yellow, with a pink smiling face, shaped a little like a pig -hard to explain- I was running down the beach as it flew in the air, leaving my mother and father walking behind. I wasnt dreaming in very much colour, mainly blues and grays. The sea was calm from what I remember, there wasnt much wind. Dream 2. I was with the guy im completely in love with. He lives about four hours from here, he told me he dreams about me alot. Anyway I was with him -as in as if we were in a relationship- and I found I was pregnant, it was too late to abort the child and so I had to tell him before it became obvious. I told him and he buggered off, accusing me that the child wasnt his -he's been cheeted on alot in the past, hence why he doesnt want to date me, he doesnt trust me from a distance, though he tells me he loves me too- he went home to Liverpool and I carried through the pregnancy. I didnt dream the birth oddly, I was sat in a room that looked like a pinker, tidyer version of my room. The baby was new born and I travelled to liverpool hoping that this guy would see how alike the child was to him but he didnt want to know, he had a new relationship. Then The baby was about two months old, a boy, I hadnt wanted to see him or hold him because my heart was aching for the guy im in love with, I didnt even name the child. Suddenly there was a knock on the door and there was the guy, he hugged me and told me he still loved me and he hadn't been able to cope with the thought of being a father. Then he asked me to marry him. We were outside, he looked at the little boy, who looked like a childlike version of him and had EXTREAMLY blue eyes. He then kissed me. That was it. The only thing I can link it to is about a year ago we fell out. After three months he called me and told me he missed me, last time I saw him he kissed me goodbye. The only bright colour was the babys eyes, which were so blue, just like the guy I likes eyes. Which would make okay sence but...whats with the baby and the marrage? more

Resolved Question: Best airline/tips for flying pregnant?

I posted this in air travel and all I got was "I wouldnt because the air pressure would put you into labor"... Which I do not believe to be trye. We are planning on flying home mid-late august and around that time I will be about 28-30 weeks, depending on the week we go. My Dr Ok'd it as long as I don't start to have pre-term labor before that or develop any complications before then. I might plan to go a little earlier just to be on the safe side. I am just curious which airline would be best for that stage of pregnancy. Obviously, I would get an aisle seat, but is there a difference in the amount of leg room or accomodations by airline? Any other tips? more

Voting Question: Navy Vs. Air Force for Married Woman with 2 Children?

My husband has a good career that can travel anywhere in the U.S. I am currently looking to go into the Military for the many benefits (educational, steady pay check, health/life insurance, travel etc.). This is a decision that my husband and I made together, he is very supportive of this. I am just not sure which branch is "better" for someone with a family (Air Force or Navy?). Before anyone says anything, YES I KNOW THAT I WILL GET DEPLOYED. I will not be like the women who get pregnant just to avoid a deployment. I have 2 beautiful sons and I don't plan on having anymore children (We are taking precautions -i.e. the pill- to avoid an unplanned pregnancy). We are not looking forward to me deploying but we have accepted it and we have things in place for my husband and children for when it happens. Also, please don't judge me for being a Mother and going into the Military. This does not make me a bad Mother or Wife. We are doing what needs to be done to secure a better future for our children. My children are happy, safe, healthy and they know that they are loved. Now...as for what kind of job I'd like in the Military. I'm not really sure. I'd like something that will transfer easily into a civilian job incase I decide not to reenlist after 4 years. I don't want to go into a career in law enforcement but here are some things that interest me: Finance, Medical, Foreign Languages etc. Any advice, ideas, suggestions? Thanks! Thanks for the responses. I will definitely take them into consideration. To those who believe I need a waiver for having 3 dependants, I think you may be mistaken. I'm in the process of going to MEPs for my ASVAB and Physical and they have not mentioned anything about this. I'll ask about it though.USAFBRAT64: What will happen if we deploy overseas? We are not sure. We can't plan 100% for everything, all we can do is plan as much as we can. If we end up going overseas and my husband's career can't transfer over there, we will cross that bridge when we get there. But yes, to answer your question we have also discussed this as being a very real possibility. He would probably use that time to take some college courses. more

Resolved Question: 20 years old, thinking about having a child, need advice?

Hi, well I'm 20 years old and my partner and I have been thinking about conceiving this summer. We live at my parents house... saving money to find a place of our own. We've bought the travel system, crib, convertable crib, bath set, and tons of clothes. (if we do get pregnant, we want to wait til after the baby showers to get more stuff.) I know that doesn't qualify us as parents but we know people who only had a pair of baby clothes while in late stages of pregnancy. The reason why we want to get pregnant is to become a family together. Another reason why is I want to have children young so when they turn 18, I'm not so old I can't enjoy my older years. We love children, we foster many stray animals and find them good homes. We are very selfless and have dedicated entire paychecks to helping animals. We also want to do this early because I plan on joining the Air Force in a little over a year. (after the child is born, of course.) What I want to know is, is this a good idea? I'm open to all words of advice, we've been told we'd make amazing parents and I know we will more

Resolved Question: What do you make of this story....?

Police in New Zealand may charge a woman who secretly gave birth in an aeroplane toilet then allegedly abandoned her baby inside a bin in the cubicle. The 30-year-old mother is believed to have been travelling from Samoa to Auckland when she went into labour unnoticed. Airline Pacific Blue said the baby was only discovered an hour after the flight landed at 5:20am as one of its members of staff cleaned the toilet. Meanwhile, the woman who disembarked was identified in the airport terminal because of her blooded clothes, local media reported. She was taken by police to Auckland's Middlemore Hospital where she underwent surgery and was reunited with her baby, whose gender has not been revealed. Incredibly, none of the 150 passengers or the air-stewards on the flight realised the woman going into labour. However, the General Manager of the airline, Adrian Hamilton-Manns said, "It's a nice, in a strange way; it's a nice thing to happen. "We feel a great connection with this little baby, so we've already been in touch with the Samoan High Commissioner in Auckland, we've extended all support we possibly can to bringing out relatives, to providing our support, and also to our staff as well." Immigration officials are investigating what information the woman provided on her visa application and how she was able to board the airplane at such an advanced stage of pregnancy. Adrian Hamilton-Manns insisted the airline had adhered to its procedures, saying: "Our processes were followed for that flight, where all people who were pregnant were actually asked about how far pregnant they were." A spokesperson from the hospital said both mother and baby were doing well..... Sorry but 'WHAT' was nice?? She abandoned her baby in a BIN?? Resolved Question: Please help me, I need to know if there is the slightest chance i could be pregnant?

I love my boyfriend so much and a little while ago we started having sex. It was both of our first times. A few weeks ago after we had done it and he had finished we didnt stop straight away and his semen went into the air pocket of the condom but then came back down the condom to the base of the penis. The semen did not travel up the condom in any way and stayed at the base of his penis but because we didn't stop im scared it may have gone inside me. I have been told there is hardly any chance of me being pregnant coz it would need to be ejaculated near my cervix and coz the vagina contains heaps of natural spermicides however am wondering what the chance of me being pregnant actually is. This happened on day 19 of my cyle which is the "safe" time however I am often a week late. I'm so scared, my period was due today but as i said is often a week late. I don't quite know what to do. I thought about taking a pregnancy test but im not sure i could handle it if it came back positive. I was thinking about waiting a week and if i still did not get my period then try it. I would really like to know your oppinion on if you think there is a chance i could be pregnant and what i should now do. Thankyou so much  more

Resolved Question: Was Palin baby announcement a red herring?

A stroke of genius perhaps? When the McCain campaign announced that Bristol Palin was pregnant, the media began a two-day stampede investigating the suggested hypocrisy of Palin's stance on pre-marital sex, followed by commentary on her lack of control of too many kids reflecting her ymanaging skills and a flaw in the "power-frau" image she projects. No one seemed to ask why the campaign released the non-story of a teen pregnancy in the first place? Cuz they were reading the media like a book, perhaps? Supposedly it was to quiet the rumors that Trig wasn't her baby. Yeah, right, sure it was... Well, there were several rumors and stories about Sarah Palin as folks tried to flesh out this unknown candidate for world leader. What choice did we have? McCain dropped her on us out of the "Last Frontier"! We were all his patsy and this maestro was playing us like a fiddle. Rather than ask the right questions, we played along. Then quicker than a McCain VP decision... one non-story... indirectly about Sarah Palin ruled them all- the valid and the not. It roared louder than Hurricane Gustav (I know, I know) and quieted any other discussion of Palin for two days. The stories building up since Friday's announcement ranged from very political to very personal. 1) There was Troopergate--the Alaskan Legislature investigation of Palin's possibly improper dismissal of the Public Safety Commissioner [very political] 2) There was Trig(ger)gate--That baby Trig might be teenie Bristol's uh, like, who cares? [very personal] 3) There was BabyWatergate--That Palin flew to Texas in her 8th month of an already diagnosed high-risk pregnancy to speak at a high-profile Republican conference. Hours before her speech, her water broke! What did Mrs. Right-to-life do? She waited around and delivered her speech as planned. She chose not to get examined by any of the top-ranked neo-natal specialists in the Dallas area but instead called her personal physician who okayed her travel by phone. Palin then, while in inactive labor flew to Anchorage and drove 50 miles to her "personal" physician who delivered baby Trig. The discussion of pro-life Sarah Palin risking her unborn baby and the impact of her strenous 9k round trip travel likely causing Trig's premature birth was getting started by Sunday. [very queasy] But just as the "woman's right to lose" for her career discussion was taking off, Monday's announcement came Campaign provided Juneaugate. The misdirection also kept the next step in the getting to know you phase from getting heard altogether. That was the fact that Sarah Palin called for the troops to be pulled out of Iraq months ago. [very on point] Some ticket. Just imagine, if the media hadn't taken the bait, they could be well on their way to credibly discussing the dissonance on the ticket. Am I giving the McCain campaign too much credit? We've learned from the Bush Presidency that there is perhaps more at play than coincidence here (like the recent drop in gas prices displaying our "healthy" economy)--an invisible hand pulling the strings that we the public never see until the truth gets aired years afterwards. If the announcement was strategic, it was absolutely Rove-ian and I mean it with the highest of praise. Who best knows the media than that puppetmaster? In hindsight it seems too obvious a step, after all the overcoverage of Britney, Lindsey, Miley, Jamie...all one needs to do to stop all serious scrutiny is throw some raw meat [as in a juicy teen story] to the press and watch them devour it like a pack of ...uh journalists. Too easy. Desirable outcome--- Palin looks unfairly attacked and the media loses all credibility. Bristol's pregnancy was never a story and the campaign had no real reason to release it. Well... Here we go again...and, Haven't we learned anything? OMG, thanks for the link Curiosity/Satisfaction. I hope the press gets Palin to explain her secessionism. Palin's involvement with secessionists could be because she wants to be ruler of all. Maybe McCain putting her on the ticket keeps her from taking Alaska out of the Union as well as helps to lower our oil prices! more

Resolved Question: Can a 7th month pregnant woman have her water break and travel 5 hrs on a plane? Air pressure is not allowed.?

I am astounded by the STORY of Sarah Palin's 5th birth. It is unbelievable that a 7 month pregnant woman would not go straight to the hospital after her water broke while she was in Texas. How could you get in a plane to Alaska instead of rushing to the nearest hospital? The air pressure of the airplane is not allowed for late term pregnancy. more

Resolved Question: Should I pay commission to the travel agent after I canceled my flight due to my high-risk pregnancy?

I bought a pair of air tickets for an international flight from a travel agent in March, 2008 for both myself and my husband. In April, I found out that I am pregnant and my doctor warned me not to travel or go to work becuase I was spotting (sign of miscarriage) I sent the doctor's note to the travel agent and canceled the flight. I've got full refund from the airline without any panelty. Now, my travel agent is asking me to pay him and the ticketing office commission and the service fee which is $200 in total. Should I pay them commission of the air ticket I didn't use? Can anyone provide any legal advice? THX more
