It all began more than 80 years ago when a young man purchased a rowboat to transport visitors across Lake Lugano, Switzerland. Who would have thought that this single rowboat would launch one of the world’s leading travel companies? Today, the Globus family of brands is a global company reaching every corner of the world, yet remains family-owned and steeped in the values Antonio had when he set out across Lake Lugano—to enlighten travellers by showing them the very best of the destinations we know so well. The Globus story takes us back to 1928 in Lugano, Switzerland. Our founder, Antonio Mantegazza, had been fascinated with travel and the wonder he saw in the eyes of travellers to his home country. To pursue this interest, Antonio bought a rowboat (on credit) and began transporting visitors to the area across Lake Lugano, sharing stories of the local sights and stories along the way. This small enterprise grew quickly, motivating a young Antonio to purchase more rowboats, convincing his friends to join him as he expanded this budding business. Rowboats grew to motorboats, then moved to land with a taxi service. Every good story has an element of luck, and our story is no exception. Antonio’s good fortune came in the form of a local sweepstakes, from which Antonio won the rights to operate a popular local route for the Swiss national postal and transportation service. To service this route, Antonio purchased his first motorcoach--the beginning of motorcoach touring as we know it today. Now in his 30’s, Antonio was at the helm of a full-fledged travel business—a company he named Globus Viaggi. Through the 1930’s, this company grew to a fleet of 12 coaches, operating local tours for European tourists in Switzerland. Business remained strong, and after a hiatus during World War II, Antonio acquired two other competing coach companies and grew his fleet to 33 coaches (his nearest competitor had just five!). Over the years, Antonio’s business dealings introduced him to another young man who shared his ideals and passion for travel—Werner Albek. Antonio and Werner partnered to operate popular excursions to St. Moritz, Milan, Venice, Rome, etc. Only later did Werner and Antonio discover that Werner’s fiancé, Eurosia, was the daughter of Antonio’s sister, Agnese. This family connection formed the foundation of the company for the decades to come. As business grew through the 1950’s, so did the company’s scope. The Globus portfolio had expanded from Switzerland and Italy to the French Riviera, Scandinavia, Holland, Belgium and England. Innovation was a key ingredient in this success. Early in the decade, Globus developed the first “circular tours,” designed as a more complete travel experience and enhancing the convenience of motorcoach touring. Antonio and Werner also pioneered the concept of Grand European Touring by offering first-class European tours, which became the cornerstone of the company’s entry into the U.S. market in the late 50’s. Now with his son Sergio by his side, Antonio and the company continued its rapid growth. In the 60’s, the company launched its Cosmos arm, which featured affordable, value-priced European touring for the cost-conscious traveller. These coach tours were so successful that Cosmos soon introduced another form of travel: air holiday packages to the sunny destinations of southern Europe. Then in the 80’s, Globus truly became worldwide, selling in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Destinations expanded, too, adding Africa, the South Pacific and Asia to its array of vacations in Europe, North and South America. The spirit of innovation continues today. In 2003, both Avalon Waterways and Monograms were introduced, adding river cruising and independent travel to the expansive product offering. Today, the Globus family of brands is marketed and operated by a network of more than 32 offices around the world, serviced by a group of more than 5,000 professionals. Combined, Globus, Cosmos, Monograms and Avalon Waterways carry over 500,000 passengers a year, making the organization the leading operator of guided vacations worldwide. At the core of the company are Antonio’s ideals of passion, hard work, innovation and love for travel. These values are the cornerstone on which Globus family of brands was built and will continue to grow for generations to come. moreResolved Question: Flying to South Africa: Delta or Continental?
If this were a domestic flight I'd just choose the cheapest one, but for this long flight I want to be comfortable and I want my checked bags to be safe. I signed up for frequent flier miles for both. Continental is about $500 more expensive, but I feel more comfortable flying with them. The routes for the continental flights also seem more reasonable: fly during the night and arrive in the morning. I'd also be traveling with South Africa Air for one leg of the flight. I don't fly Delta and I've heard lots of bad things. Delta flights leave really late from my home airport at night and arrive late at night at CPT, which I don't really prefer. Delta also has a higher volume of lost luggage than Continental. However, the cheap price is hard to overlook. I'm wondering if anyone has any general information on these airlines or has experience flying to South Africa on these flights. If not, how was you experience traveling internationally with these airlines, especially with layovers.yeah for the Delta flight I'd leave from NYC and go to AMS and from AMS to CPT. All the flights to would arrive in CPT at 10:30pm which is really late. For Continental I'd go to FRA or LHR and take South African Airways and get there at 10:30am. I'm just looking for any info that can help me decide which would be better. moreVoting Question: A Toronto based psychic named "Nikki" prediced all these things? Have any of them come true?

Catastrophe on the Coasts “Air, air, jalankan untuk hidup anda! Kita harus melarikan diri ke pegunungan! (Water, water, run for your life! We must flee to the mountains!) I heard people scream and shout.” says Dina from Indonesia. On December twenty-sixth, 2004 at exactly 7:59 a.m. a catastrophic earthquake hit all the countries and islands in the South-Eastern hemisphere and caused a series of tsunamis leaving the death and damage tolls soaring. The earthquake that generated the great Indian Ocean and Indonesian Tsunami is estimated to have released the energy of twenty-three thousand Hiroshima type atomic bombs. Deadly waves roared speedily across the Indian Ocean at the speed of a jet plane going five hundred miles per hour. The Indian Ocean Tsunami traveled approximately three thousand miles to Africa, destroying property and generating causalities along the way. The consequences of the huge earthquake and tsunamis had a huge impact on not just Southern Asia and Western Africa, but the whole world. News channels, newspapers, the internet and the media were being flooded with video clips showing the mass destruction, damage statistics, and death tolls. Humanitarian organizations and governments quickly took action to assist those affected by the disaster. They were concerned the death toll could rise higher from diseases and hunger. At the end of the day of December twenty-sixth, more than two hundred thousand people had been killed and two billion people had been left homeless and injured. One-third of the people who died were children because they were not strong enough to fight the force. Fourteen billion dollars were donated from Global aid. About eleven billion dollars were needed in rebuilding the infrastructure broken apart. In addition to its massive death toll, South Asia’s tsunami rearranged geographic features of the Indian Ocean above and below the water’s surface. There was about a 9.15 magnitude quake on the Richter scale and a 7.1 aftershock. Vanished islands, restructured coastlines, and uncertain shipping lanes were also part of the massive destruction. Today, the world still mourns over the ten painful minutes the disaster took place in. Families and relatives affected by the catastrophe still reminisce the loss of their loved ones. Fifty-thousand bodies yet remain unfound. A journalist and photographer from India, Arko, said, “I realized, unfortunately, for us it is our love that covers up tragedies, disaster, the sorrow of people, and the emotions we feel. But, they always do remain as memories, and the images of people I saw come back in my dreams, as if I saw those people yesterday. In effect, we are not the same people.” Currently, six years after the event there are still ongoing projects to give aid to the victims of the loss. In this day and age we can't prevent tsunamis from occurring, and there is not much we can do to impede the approaching flood of water. Education and warning are the two contributing factors that can help minimize the damage of a tsunami. If the residents of South Asia and Africa learn and understand fundamental safety procedures of earthquakes and tsunamis, in the future the damage of an natural disaster can be much less. The fact that there was an earthquake preceding the tsunami would have caused the people to seek higher ground until the danger of a tsunami was over, but many people were washed away because they simply did not understand the physical factors that link earthquakes to tsunamis. In the future, hopefully America will find an adequate system to stop tsunamis. Some steps we can take toward lessening the damage of a natural disaster are: Don't build vital buildings near the coast such as, emergency services, hospitals, water plants and power stations. These facilities should be inland so they will keep running in the event of a natural disaster. Buildings near to the coast can be built on concrete stilts. The stilts need to be a few meters up and the stilts must be thick and strong so they can slow down the water causing it to do less damage and not go much further. Water can rush through underneath without damaging the building. Natural disasters, like the Indian Ocean Tsunami will not have such severe damages like destroying property and people. If a catastrophe similar to the South Asia Tsunami occurs again, hopefully the world will be prepared. moreResolved Question: flying aboard question about delays?

Sadly the US of America has become so politically correct you cannot even cough without it turning into some legal issue degrading to a certain group of people, so it's hard to ask questions about physical features that are dictated by evolution. Ex: People of hotter climates such as Africans have larger noses then people of cooler climates such as some Asian groups and Caucasians. The reason being that air entering through a smaller nose would be heated more than air traveling through a larger nose. Anyone living in Africa having a smaller nose (really I should say nostrils) would be at a disadvantage as they would constantly be hotter than everyone else, prone to dehydrate quicker which in turn leads to a whole slew of problems. That is a very simplified way of putting it but you get the idea. Skin pigmentation was of course due to the sun, that needs no explaining. Hair can also be explained by the temperatures, shorter and less hair for warmer climates, longer hair and more hair covering the body for cooler areas. My question then is what conditions caused the evolution of larger lips. I'm assuming it has to do with temperature as people in Africa and natives of South America generally have larger lips, but I don't see the connection. Also what caused the shape of eyes, such as the prominent feature in most Asians. For those that don't believe in evolution...6 days...giant flood....got it. This question isn't for you so move on, nobody is interested in your comments. For those that want to claim these questions are racism, pull the stick out of your overly sensitive ***holes and go fry your brain on some more TV. For those that want to make racist comments, go play in traffic. Also for those "Top Contributors" that never take the time to read the entire article and question before answering to try an obtain as many points as possible in a day, get a life. There is more out there then yahoo points. If you aren't this sort of "Top Contributor" then the last statement doesn't apply to you. For any other **tches, gripes, or complaints I may have missed.....just shut up an answer the question, if you are not able to move on. Thanks!By connection I meant how the temperature effected lip size, not what South America and Africa have in common. Yes. I do know they are both hot, good stuff though. moreResolved Question: ******!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!15 History questions help needed im stuck on just these THANKS.!!!!!!!!!!!***********?

All 3 movies are up for best picture this year. There are others on the best picture list but right now everyone is saying that these three are the top contenders. I enjoyed Avatar and all. And it's by far one of the most visually amazing films out there. It's made by James Cameron after all :P However if you were to take away all of it's visual effects it pretty much turns out to be Pocahontas/Dancing with the Wolves with blue aliens. If you've seen Pocahontas or Dancing with the Wolves. You'd understand what I meant by the story of Avatar being extremely clichéd. Most people will think and say that Avatar should win because all a movie needs nowadays are explosions and shiny things for it to be best picture. I suppose story doesn't matter anymore >_> However if anyone has seen The Hurt Locker or District 9, both are visually amazing and have a gripping story that sends out powerful messages that makes the viewer connect to and think about reality and the many problems embroiling the world. Here's a rundown of what the 3 movies are about real quick. Don't think about the visual effects. Just totally block them out. Think about the story and pick and choose for yourself. Avatar: Set in very distant future. Main character travels to different planet to replace brother. Becomes a Na'vi alien. Can run really fast now and do cool flips in the air. Meets female blue Na'vi. Falls in love with said Na'vi. Decides to switch sides and fight for the Na'vi, because the humans are depicted as typically greedy individuals who want to steal resources. Surprise, surprise. The aliens protect a giant tree and win even though the humans had incredible high tech weapons and ships and the main character ends up living happily ever after with the woman he loves in a feel good almost Disney esque fuzzy ending O__O The Hurt Locker: Based on real life experiences from soldiers and journalists while over in Iraq. Soldier is sent to Iraq as apart of the EOD. An elite bomb dismantling squad. Said soldier and his team face constant death as they try their best to protect innocent civilians everyday from roadside bombs and sharp shooting snipers. No room for error because when you're dismantling a bomb and you make a teeny little mistake you die. Each and everyday is hell for the EOD squad as the struggle to keep everything under control. In the end the main character crumbles beneath the stress of his job and doesn't end living happily ever after even though he tries to lead a normal family life but can't. District 9: Based on the cultural happenings and current problems in South Africa, Tanzania, and other parts of the world where people live in extreme poverty and areas rife with crime, discrimination, hate, ignorance, meaningless violence, and elitism. Main character is at first very biased towards the aliens and sees them as nothing more then animals and scum. However through very clever character development. Irony hits him in the face, LITERALLY, and he is FORCED to become an alien. No choice is given to him. He hates what is happening to him and people begin hunting him to harvest his body parts. And see him as nothing more then a pig up for slaughter. He slowly begins to realize the hell the aliens that landed on earth on going through and connects with another alien named Christopher who has a small son who are both trying to escape back to their home planet. At first the main character is completely selfish and only wants Christopher to cure him and turn him human again. But as time passes he witnesses the brutality the aliens are suffering at the hands of everyone. And grows somewhat of a heart, not a TOTAL heart. He’s still selfish but looks past differences to help Christopher and his son to go back home and save their people. In the end the main character also doesn’t get a happy ending. And instead is stuck as an alien in a garbage landfill. moreResolved Question: what's a tax card?Do i need one when i go back to South Africa?

Hi Folks, I am planning a trip to South Africa (Cape Town) in the near future and need some advise from someone who has travelled to that place. I am considering booking at Southern Sun, Waterfront which I understand is close to the Green Market Square. For my Lunch and diner arrangements, I am considering taking hotel shuttle service to the V&A Waterfront area which I understand has lots of food stalls and moreover it’s very cheap compared to the buffet served at the hotel restaurant. I am told it’s approx R170 per person. 1. How safe is the V&A Waterfront area ? Is it safe to walk there ? 2. I am also considering “Garden Route package tour” - The same feeling about the safety aspect come up – How safe is it ? 3.I am aware of general 10% tipping of the bill which seems to be the general practice if you visit any establishment in SA. But, what about tipping when you are at the Safari Game drives i.e How much to tip the Ranger, Tracker ? Is it per day tipping or we can tip them at the end of the safari. Can we choose to arrange the tipping (payment) on the credit card 4.Anyone did the Hot Air Ballooning in SA ? Again – Safe, Is it ? Read today’s news regarding Hot air Balloon tragedy somewhere in China which claimed lives of some dutch tourist. I am also thinking of doing the Bill Harrop’s Hot Air Ballooning near Johannesburg. I am having second thoughts after reading the recent tragedy (above). Thanks all in advance. moreResolved Question: Should smuggling marijuana between lesotho and South-Africa be considered a career option?
Ok this isn't some joke... On the border of south africa and lesotho is the Drakensberg Mountain range, 3200mabove sea level, cold and 1 km sheer cliffs marking the escarpment. Me and my family often go hiking there(we live in S.A) and we always find a group of people with huge backpacks full of marijuana. I believe they are being misused, the hike those mountain passes only at night time, with basically no warm clothes or lights, only gumboots. They can go up and down the entire mountain a day. Below some south african guy buys it(I am sure cheating them) They have the hardest jobs i think but they deserve the money. I thought of enrolling in the air force, traveling europe picking fruits, or doing a Bsc in science. But seriously i dont want to live that way, these guys on the mountain they have a clear goal, survival, they dont care that it's illegal because well its a plant that people buy and it helps their fever. They are true nomads living for life, that sounds like a life worth lived. The walls were covered with the heads of various types of animals. There was a puma from South America that he had tracked deep in the Amazon Jungle, relying only on the paw prints it had left deep in the mud. He had caught malaria that time, and to this day it still flares up. He had gone to Alaska and shot and killed a timber wolf from a helicopter as it flew over the stormy Tundra. That trip he had lost part of his nose from frostbite trying to retrieve its carcass. He had also gone to the Everglades where he had rented an airboat to begin his hunt for alligators. After exhausting hours of setting traps and searching through swamps he finally caught it. But while posing for a picture with the alligator, holding its jaws open only with his hand and foot, his fingers slipped causing the gators mouth to snap shut. He lost a few toes that day. Today he hides the missing digits with a pair of alligator skin boots. He attributed these accidents to bad luck, but others blamed it on his stupidity. Bruce fist became interested in hunting because of his line of work, or rather because of his boredom at work. He spent long hours in an office doing paperwork for his slaughterhouse, a business passed down from his father. But the only problem was a slaughterhouse isn’t very exciting. It just kills cows. Bruce needed something more alive and masculine. He would have liked to be one of those men who climbed Mount Everest, but sadly he didn’t have the right physique for it. Hunting suited him quite well because he was already comfortable with death. He liked to compare himself with President Teddy Roosevelt, who was a big game hunter, too. Bruce had had many girlfriends, but they always ended the same with him being dumped. He always put his needs before anyone else’s and was unable to relate to them (he was always better relating with animals). On Bruce’s 40th birthday he looked around at all of his friends who were married and had children and found himself having a midlife crisis. It wasn’t the fact that he was not married that bothered him, but that for the first time he felt old. Turning 40 might have made others feel discouraged about visions that they had not completed, but for Bruce it only intensified his reason to travel to Africa. One of Bruce’s goals was to hunt the “ King of the Jungle“. He had read in “Big Gaming Wyoming” hunting magazine that the lion is considered by many to be one of the most respected of the animals because it is so terrifying. After reading that article he became obsessed with killing the large cat. He arrived two full hours before his flight departure Bruce felt relived not having to worry that he would not make his flight on time. He boarded the plane his ticket in hand as he was guided to business class. Bruce had a lot of money he could always afford first class but he liked to think of himself as one of the “guys”. He sat down next to a man and began to make small talk. The air in the cabin was very dry. He got up every few hours to stretch and walked up and down the isles. He put on his sleeping mask and earplugs he had bought in the airport and went to sleep. After awaking he took off his sleeping mask and removed his earplugs he looked down the isle, and saw that breakfast was being served. He got up and hasty rushed to use the bathroom to wash up. He used a wet cloth and ran it over his face and arms. He looked into the mirror examined his dehydrated face and the dark circles around his eyes. He transferred to the next plane and another until he was looking down through the small twin-engine plane window at the golden African plains below him. moreResolved Question: Geography..Any Helpers want to help me with a study guide?

(New Zealand Air was quite nice). What's the smart thing to do?! moreResolved Question: Where can we get best treatment for brain tumour for our friend?
Our friend, aged 31, having a brain tumour. We have pretty much typed in the medical report below. Would anybody plz give us some advice where to take him for best treatment or what should we do? MEDICAL REPORT Subject: Mr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX Mr. XXXXXX had advanced malignancy of his brain. The provisional histological analysis indicates glioblastoma multifonne. Additional complications include epilepsy (which has been stabilized using intravenous phenytoin) and thrombocytopenia for which platelet transfusions have been administered) Chemotherapy and radiotherapy may extend his life expectancy, somewhat. His condition is nevertheless extremely serious and essentially pre-terminal. From a humanitarian point of view, given the difficulty of his family to travel to (some place in Africa), air ambulance (ICU) transport to an ICU facility close to his home (some place in south asia) is recommended. “Migration is probably the most awe-inspiring natural phenomenon.”—COLLINS ATLAS OF BIRD MIGRATION. ON December 9, 1967, an airline pilot spotted a flock of about 30 whooper swans flying toward Ireland at the amazing altitude of 27,000 feet [8,200 m]. Why were they flying so high, where the air temperature was about 40 degrees below zero Fahrenheit [-40°C]? Besides escaping the persistent snow squalls at lower altitudes, they were riding a wind current that gave them a ground speed of about 125 miles [200 km] an hour. It was estimated that the birds completed their 800-mile [1,300 km] flight from Iceland to Ireland in just seven hours. The world champion migrator—the arctic tern—breeds north of the Arctic Circle yet spends the northern winter in the Antarctic. In a typical year, this small seabird travels between 25,000 and 30,000 miles [40,000 to 50,000 km]—the equivalent of circling the globe! White storks breed in Northern Europe and winter in South Africa, making a round trip of 15,000 miles [24,000 km]. Thousands of these birds pass through Israel in the autumn and the spring, following a timetable known back in Bible times.—Jeremiah 8:7. Who implanted that instinctive ability? Some 3,500 years ago, God posed the following question to the righteous man Job: “Is it owing to your understanding that the falcon soars up, that it spreads its wings to the south wind? Or is it at your order that an eagle flies upward and that it builds its nest high up?” In his reply Job rightly praised God for the amazing abilities of birds and other animals.—Job 39:26, 27; 42:2. moreResolved Question: Are air travel prices likely to come down due to the drop in oil prices?

When is the best time to book for specials? Thanks moreResolved Question: Peace123 – Have you travelled overseas?
If you have, how did you finance your travel? Many young people travel overseas on backpack and top up their fund by gaining employment in fruit-picking, call centers, etc. Retirees have more time at their disposal and travel using their superannuation payout (equivalent to 401k) or their savings from their pension, etc. I may not have been to the USA or Europe or Africa or South America but I somehow have visited them by watching travel shows on TV, reading books, on the Internet, etc. I call this as travelling vicariously. At least, I don’t have to pay for the air fare, accommodation, etc., and far from accidents or terrorism. moreResolved Question: Help me with geography homework please!!?
