Low Air Travel Questions asked

Open Question: How can I kick the soccer ball farthest on the soccer field?

If i'm the goalie, and i want to kick the soccer ball farthest from my goalie position, at what angle should my soccer ball travel upwards? I mean, should I kick it at a 45° angle, a 60° angle, a 30° angle, or something else? Maybe even kick it at a 15° angle? I'm not talking bout a football. Just a perfectly round soccer ball. And let's say there's no wind and no rain. Just still air, no wind. Should I kick it at a lower angle, or at a higher angle? or should I kick it at a perfect half-way angle upwards? more

A narrow-diameter tube X is held with its lower end immersed in a beaker of water. The level of water is adjusted for maximum sound while a vibrating tuning fork is held over the tube. The length of the tube X above the water is called Y, while the length of the tube in the water is called Z. Assume that fundamental frequencies only are involved. 1) The wavelength of the sound in air will be approximately a) 2Y b) 2Z c) 4Y d) 4Z e) Y-Z 2) The wavelength of the sound in the water will be a) less than 2Z b) between 2Z and 2Y c) between 2Y and 4Y d) 4Y e) greater than 4Y 3) In the time required for the tuning fork to make one complete vibration, the wave in air will travel a distance equal to a) wavelength/4 b) wavelength/2 c) wavelength d) twice the wavelength e) four times the wavelength more

Resolved Question: How can I see the world and not live the monotonous American life?

I'm 17 and I've been thinking a lot lately. I want to see the world; however, I don't want to see it like a tourist. I actually want to experience it and really get to know people. I've always had a dream of being a great writer/thinker, and I believe seeing how the world outside America will help me do that. I would like to travel along just kind of drifting from place to place, working odd jobs to get enough money to feed/house myself, and meeting people and stumbling upon a cause or something that will make my life worthwhile. For the past week or so, I've been thinking about how I can do this...I was thinking that maybe I can just work a basic labor job on a farm for a month or 2 and see/learn about that town, and then move along to another. And just keep doing that for a few years. I've had a dream where I just walked to French farmer's door and asked for enough work that will cover me for lodging and eating with their family. Is this even possible? Are there farmers that open up their house as a kind of renting lodge for people who would like to labor on their farms? I wouldn't expect much, and I'm very low maintenance. I really just want time to see the world, think, read (I already have a decent-sized library), and just breathe the natural air. How many hours a day of work do you think a farmer would put on me if I didn't even want pay, just to live/eat with his family? I've finally realized that I can't really stand it America. I see my brothers and my parents everyday either staring at the television screen or playing x box every moment they are at home. They are the stereotypical Americans who believe that America is NUMBER ONE, that we must go kill all the big bad terrorists, and the television speaks nothing but truth. I can't remember the last time I've seen any of them pick up a book, and if they have, it was a sort of crime-thriller which amounts to absolutely jack from an intellectual viewpoint. I was a straight A student (until junior year) and then i realized that my grades mean absolutely nothing. Me getting good grades don't make me smarter than someone else. It means that I was willing to enslave myself more than others. Then there's always "well a good education will land you a good job." If you call working from 9-5 in a cubicle a good job, then hell with that. I'd rather be dead before seeing myself get that kind of life. Working a job so I can get a bunch of stuff I don't need, so that I can work more to pay off the debts I get (whether it be from a fancy house, car, or an AWESOME plasma TV!!!) I've always been strong on my political, religious (or lack there of), and philosophic beliefs, but I've never been able to really tell people what I feel or want to do. So, I'm asking whoever reads this, how you would go along the path towards achieving this? I'm planning to just go to college and major in writing or history; more so to appease my parents than for myself (they pay for it). What I'm most afraid of is just pushing this dream back until it's too late. When I find something I like to do, I'm extremely dedicated; however, sometimes I just get nervous about what others will think or that my parents will just say outright that I shouldn't do it (they're rather good at doing that), I just convince myself that it's not worth doing. If I didn't go through with this dream and ended up being a 50 year old businessman with a wife nagging me to make more and more money so she can buy more stuff, while I have to pay mortgage on a typical american home, with little stupid children running around, I'm pretty sure I'd commit suicide. Please, can someone tell me what they think...Join the navy? So I can be a f-cking slave to the American government and the corporate leaders which guide it...So i can take commands from old hags who sucked enough dick to get their "great" positions of authority. That sounds worse than being a typical american guy to me. more

Open Question: What do you think of my future plans after high school? Please be honest!?

Ok, well this is a very basic plan, and I am VERY ambitious. After I graduate high school I would like to get a job full time and stay at home for like 1-2 years(my parents will let me live at home for free to save money up) and work and save money. I would then like to transfer to Seattle and live there for a few years and such and establish residency and go to college to get instate tuition, either a university or community college then transfer to university. I currently live in central Minnesota. Ok this is the SIMPLE outline of my plan. I think this plan will work, first off what do YOU think of this outline plan? Now obviously there is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH more too it, and im well aware of that too. I already know a lot of things, but there is A LOT I don't know. My ambition came from we were at a Japanese steakhouse earlier sitting around a grill with other people watching them grill steak and rice on it and entertaining us by doing things like twirling the utensils through the air and lighting the grill on fire. It was AWESOME! Im 18 and im going to be a senior and will be class of 2011. I was there with my older sister whos 23 and has worked at walmart since she graduated a couple years ago and a couple years ago moved out and currently does nothing but live in a basic apartment and works at walmart. They had these other people there at the steakhouse talking about what they do for a living, someone owns a limo company and has traveled a lot, another person works in a prison and they both said they recently went to San Diego, and the waitress said shes going to london later this month and she said she came from Indonesia. My sister told me that we have really boring lifes, and I have a lot of ambition to do exciting stuff like that, and obviously its going to take a lot of work, my mom told me that they had to work hard for all this stuff and it didn't just fall into their laps. I now have a ton of ambition to do something big and exciting, and thats why im planning now. Ok back to my plan. I would like to get a job at a basic retail store like Target or Best buy and work there for a few years living at home then transferring out there. Now I know NOTHING about transferring jobs. How exactly does it work? Also, will you go back to being paid a lower wage or will you keep your current wage? Also, is it the same for every store or does every story vary? If I can't get a job at a big box retail store with locations nationwide, I would work wherever I was able too and would keep on trying to get a retail job so I would be able to easily transfer. Now heres another thing, the cost of living difference. Im from Central Minnesota and a nice one bedroom apartment can be found easily under $550. Now Seattle isn't as expensive as San Francisco or New York City or Los Angeles, but its still really expensive especially where I am coming from. Thats why I would like to save up money for a few years. I DO know that Washington's minimum wage is one of the highest in the country, its $8.55 I believe(How many high school students know this?), which is cool. Now heres the thing about getting a basic apartment. I would just need a basic 1 bedroom or studio apartment. The apartments I have lived in have been terrible and I don't really mind them at all. I don't need french doors or stainless steel appliances or hardwood floors or a pool or fitness center or valet trash service. I also would be open to living anywhere in the Seattle area, even in a suburb thats still a little ways from Seattle. Now places like Redmond, WA are really cool, but also home to lots of high tech companies and the cost of living is ridiculous. Now, I would have lots of money saved up, but apartments generally want your income to be around 3 times your rent(Again! How many high school students know this?!?!) and would money in a bank account count towards getting an apartment or whatever? Also, can you have someone from out of state cosign? My dad would probably cosign for me if I have worked a few years livign at home and have tons saved up. Now heres another thing, I have never been to the city. I would need to go there to look at apartments and put an application and deposit down on one, and also get to know the area and check it out and see what its like. I may even need to make more then one trip there to check stuff out. This I am aware of and will definitely cost money. Will I fly or drive? This I don't know, I will have to figure out whats cheaper and such. I have a plan for when I get there as well! I want to go to college eventually out there. I will have to work for a couple years and establish residency so I can get in state tuition. I know you simply can't get in state tuition by moving there, I will have to look up the requirements for Washington and see what I need to do. It shouldn't be too hard, like register to vote and apply for a Washington Drivers License. What do I waContinued from above:What do I want to do? Again, I don't know this year I am definitely thinking about it and have ideas. Also, Seattle has tons of high tech companies and everything, some places I would love to work at. So I will have to work hard and study hard and do very well in college. Minnesota also has some of the highest community college tuition in the nation. As you can see Minneapolis Charges $151 for a credit for instate and Seattle charges $87. http://www.minneapolis.edu/prospectivestudents/knowingthecost/index.cfm http://www.seattlecolleges.edu/DISTRICT/prospectivestudents/tuitionfees.aspx SO what do you think of my rough plan? Please be honest. My parents want me to do more then they ever did and I want to too. They would love to see me move far away, though they want me to be ready and prepared and realistic and everything. If you took the time to read all this I REALLY REALLY appreciate it. I don't think this plan is all that ridiculous. Now if I was sayign I want tContinued from above:Now if I was sayign I want to move to Seattle as soon as I graduate and i was asking how I can get an apartment and a job before I graduate, NOW then I would be incredibly crazy and pretty stupid.I also have some previous questions about volunteering out of state. I wasnt serious with those. This question I am very, very serious. more

Voting Question: I want to dig up Impatients in PA and take to FL for the winter months.?

I have 14 very large inpatients in PA. They will die off in the fall up here. But they are so healthy I would like to get Oct through April next year to enjoy them before it gets too hot for them. How to keep them healthy for 2 1/2 days of driving? We travel by motor home and it has a large lower storage compartment tray that pulls out. I can access them on either side. I just pull them completely out on sliding track. So getting in there is easy. When I dig them out, what is the best way to keep them healthy? Because it will be mid September it will still be hot travelling. Should I pot them up or can I just put the roots & dirt in a plastic grocery bag and leave the top out to get air? Or can you think of a better way? more

Voting Question: Is there no need to have stricter censorship on commercial advertisements shown in India?

A guy in a hosiery ad trying to scare a girl by pretending to touch her below the waistline, a chap offering his friend a gas-relief capsule while travelling in car to help discharge the abdominal gas through both ears, a guy asking a girl at bus-stop to offer him a bite from her chocolate bar she was eating, a woman advising her friend, after conceiving, to take "emergency contraceptive pill" for immediate abortion, a hair-expert showing how to measure mass of hair with measuring tape after use of a particular shampoo, air-conditioners, fridges and other electrical equipment walking by themselves in the street (through UPS) are a few of the obnoxious and absurd type of ads which make one feel disgusted and mentally sore. Such ads are having more undesirable effects on the minds of children in the lower age-groups. Should such foolish and absurd ads not be stopped at the earliest by imposing stricter censorship?Yes, Poodie, there was a 'slip' and I make a correction that Emergency Pills don't induce abortion but they do destroy the sperm, ovum or the initial foetus within 72 hours of sexual relation to prevent conception. However, that is not the point. My submission is: are these foolish, absurd and sometimes vulgar ads not causing any damage to the society? If the Govt. can monitor and control ads which make tall and false claims, why not such ads too are brought within its purview? more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my short story?

I wrote this a few years back. Opinions? Oh, Monday… the busiest day of the week. I watched the people fly by, grim expressions on their faces, keys and money jangling in pockets, shouting into devices pressed against their ears. Every day of my life I wonder about their lives. I would give anything for them to just pause for a few seconds and take in the scene, talk to each other a bit, and enjoy life! I see the Smith family run by to catch a train for their weekly visit to the city. I wish I could wave to them, I wish they would notice me! The usual beggar in his customary faded overalls saunters past me. That man does talk to me, although I do not particularly enjoy his company. Before I know it, the lights shut off and the doors are securely locked. I stand in silence, feeling deserted and incredibly lonely. You would think that after all these years I would be accustomed to the nightly routine, but each and every day the silence is a constant and depressing reminder of my restrictions. I sighed and shook my head, chunks of cement and shards of colorful metal tumbling off of me and falling to the cold, marble floor. Stepping down from my pedestal, I let out a massive yawn and brushed off the last bits of cement. I turned around, wishing my life did not have to be this way. I wished I could be like everyone else and be free day and night. Unfortunately, my days were spent living the strict and restless life of a train station statue. I sighed, then froze. I heard the sharp and low sound of the padlock being opened followed by the loud and steady creaking of the heavy copper doors. Silently running, I jumped onto my pedestal and froze in my usual position – hoping and praying that whoever was in the lavish old station would not notice my sudden human features. An echoing tick of heels traveled throughout the entryway, every second coming closer to me. I felt my skin hardening, my human heart turning to cold and pure stone. Luckily and strangely, my eyes did not glass and freeze over. My eyes darted around the dark, searching for the intruder. A shadow loomed towards me, and then I saw her… certainly about eight times smaller than me and dressed in a shimmering periwinkle gown and a dainty silver crown perched atop her dark red hair. She tilted her head, and with a swift, twirling hand motion, I instantly felt a large weight being lifted off of me. My body warmed; the harsh outer shell of my prison crumbling. The air was filled with silver specks, and the mysterious woman gave me a small smile and vanished into the first golden ray of sun shining into the station. I stared in complete amazement at my feet… I was human again! I ran outside, studying the train schedule and waiting eagerly for the train station to officially open. Today marked the beginning of my new life. more

Resolved Question: Stuck in a hotel in Chantilly, what should I do?

I am from a lower part of Brittany myself, but moved to Paris, where I joined the army, and now I am a part of an elite corps. I became friendly with two of my fellow-soldiers, and after a while with yet another young man, from Tarbes. One of our friends was wounded in eh... action, and received leave of absence to go to Forges, to take waters. We received absence of leaves, too, and decided to go, all four of us, to Calais instead, for some sea air and swimming. We left early, and stopped in Chantilly for some breakfast, in an auberge Great Saint Martin. There was a quarrelsome man there he picked up a fight with me, and my friends, who were in a hurry, left without me, asking me to catch them up on the road. Unfortunately, during this fight, I strained my knee and had to stay in bed. I was cruelly bored, played lansquenet with a random traveller, and lost everything. Now I can't pay hotel's bill, and the doctor's bill. I know no one here, though I do have a ... sort of a cousin, in Paris, she is very well off, Mme Coquenard, from Rue aux Ours. I wrote to her twice, asking for a little loan, just to settle my debts here, but she never replied. The owner of the auberge refuses to serve me anymore food, my friends are travelling and I can't reach them, my parents can't help me any. Yet I have to pay this bill somehow, what should I do? more

Resolved Question: How's my friend and I's first chapter?

Chapter One: At nine o’clock in the evening, nearly after an entire day spent laboring over the project, my work was done. Before me stood a worn, rusting car—for my money only had worth at the junk yard—morphed by my modifications, though appearing to be usable none the less. This was the result of my endless dreaming, the next leap forward in human technology… the first ever time machine. “Lexi,” I called, cleaning the oil residue from my hands with a thin rag, “Come out here for a second!” In a few moments, my younger sibling appeared in the garage doorway. “What is it Maia?” she inquired, when her eyes suddenly became locked on the time machine. “Oh my God…” she breathed, her gaze subject to the wonder of my contraption, “Is this what you’ve been working on for so long?” “Yeah,” I chortled. Hell, sometimes she got annoying with the simplest of questions, “I’m testing it out right now, and I need you to film it.” She remained motionless, dazed in awe. When I called her name once more, she seemed to have broken free from that enchantment, nodded, and went to retrieve the video camera. I adjusted a few things in the time she was absent, checking the fuel tank, tightening a few bolts…. She had just returned when I finished recalibrating the set time—five minutes into the future. As the red light flashed to life and the deep, reflective lens of the camera was aimed at me, the experiment began. I cleared my throat. “The date is July 19, 2010, the time being exactly 9:05pm. Today, I will travel exactly five minutes into the future using this modified vehicle.” I motioned to the car resting behind me. My mind blanked; professionalism was not a practice of mine. After a brief pause, I decided to feed that anxious hunger growing rapidly within me. “Well,” I sighed, a grin taking root upon my lips, “I suppose I should start then.” I waltzed over to the time machine, seating myself in the weathered driver’s position, and placed the key in the ignition. “Wait, Maia!” Lexi cried, freezing my hand just before it started the engine. “Aren’t you too dang young to drive?” I tossed my gaze. “I won’t be freaking driving.” I told her. “I just need the protection of the car in case the vortex between here and five minutes ahead is…intolerable.” With that, I closed the door, and turned the key. The time machine roared to life, the dashboard bursting alight with gauges and meters no car manufacturer would ever dream existed. My lips curled in sustained adrenaline, quavering hands grasping the wheel, I began to travel. Originally, the motion was smooth and flawless, then, the car rattled. Plumes of black smog choked from the exhaust tubes, filling the air with a putrid scent as the machine forced itself through time. This was not falling in accordance with my plan; calamity was in my wake. Hastily, I fumbled for the silver key that had given life to this monstrosity, though discovered with much disdain that it was firmly clamped in the ignition. I was too frightened to merely step out of the time machine, for a flurry of color had already begun swirling outside the windshield. “No!” I yelled. “Stop, stop, stop!” My voice had dipped into a slightly lower octave, cultivating a gently hollow edge as the chaos proceeded. Panting, feeling as though my flesh had become the sun’s surface, I began to watch my dream shatter. Death seemed to be much closer than the future. After what had seemed to be an eternity, the machine jolted to a halt. I forced myself into the open night, no longer in my garage, but instead in a field of dry grass under a clouded sky. The time no longer seemed to be at nine o’clock, but rather before that, at an overcast dusk. With unrelenting coughs ravaging my throat, I staggered toward a faint haze of light glowing just beyond the horizon. My legs lifted as though enormous cinderblocks weighed them down, allowed only a brief moment in the air before being restrained again. Vertigo consumed my mind, the city lights surfacing into view resembling that of the blur whilst in the time machine. Alas, my body could not withstand the burden of this new era any longer. I collapsed to the earth just before the city’s reach. In the final moments of consciousness I possessed, a rounded shadow veered beside me. Two figures emerged from its hull, conversing with inaudible voices to one another, darkness consuming the world just as they approached. “Damn,” I thought to myself, “who or what the hell are these guys –things?”Please don't complain that you don't know what some of the words mean. I didn't, then I looked them up. more

Resolved Question: Why is Air France so expensive?

I'm a North American currently living and France and doing relatively frequent travel through France, Europe, Mideast. Perhaps it's just a coincidence but every time I've looked at buying a ticket to anywhere - transatlantic flight, European flight, to the Mideast - Air France always seems to be substantially more expensive, and that's without counting low-cost flyers like EasyJet. For instance, I chose random dates for Lyon to Berlin, and an Air France flight transferring in Paris CDG is 25% more than a SwissAir flight flight transferring in Zurich. Sometimes the prices seem to be less crazy if you leave directly from Paris, but it's not a sure thing by any means. A flight from Paris to Amman is 740-or-so Euro on Royal Jordanian (which is quite a nice airline), but flying Air France costs 1400 Euro for the same direct flight with the same duration. A flight from Paris to New York costs with one transfer costs 50% more if I go with Air France instead of BA. Intra-France travel is so expensive it makes more sense to just buy a train ticket. What the heck is going on here? Is it all based on travel out of Paris, is Lyon an expensive hub, is this all just a coincidence on my part, or is there some actual reason to explain why Air France fares seem so out of whack? more

Resolved Question: Should subwoofers be banned in apartment buildings and condos?

Even when the rest of the music is at relatively low volume, low frequency bass (esp. 80Hz and below) travels easily through walls and manifests itself as a serious annoyance far from the source. It's like someone constantly bouncing a beachball or basketball against the wall, which would be treated as an obvious act of belligerence. Remote terrorism via sound pressure has become a chronic nuisance in dwellings with shared walls, especially walls with no air-gap between them, or non-cement structures. The problem with obnoxious car subwoofers is well known, but home subwoofers are worse in many ways because they are stationary and far less intermittent. They can be insidious, with just enough volume to annoy people from chronic exposure (like living near wind turbines). I had to move because a landlord wouldn't control tenants who forced their bass into other units for hours on end, knowing full well it was bothering people. You could rarely hear the midrange and highs, just a constant thumping. With the prevalence of thug culture in today's society (even among the middle class), and too many people who only understand RESPECT in a jail-house/street-life context, is it reasonable to ban subwoofers in apartments or condominiums? At the very least, how about limiting their size and/or maximum SPL, or having managers ensure they are isolated as much as possible from the floor. You can use headphones, and they now have ones that replicate movie surround sound. Courteous people ought to realize that you don't have the same rights in an apartment as you do in a standalone house. The answer from "lowertheboom" is ironic, seeing as that's the exact name of an anti-subwoofer website! It the reply isn't sarcasm, he seems to have ignored all the moral reasons why it's NOT cool to inflict bass (even at "low" levels) on one's neighbors. The whole point of my question is to make people think about The Commons, not just their own entertainment. If anyone has a more intelligent, thorough reply, please have at it. more

Resolved Question: Could you interpet my dreams?

Okay, I know, a little off with that. I seriously had a weirdest dream ever. It was about Danny Phantom and the little adventure (sp.) and it's so freakin' weird! I'll share what happened. In the lonely dark basement, with creepy crashed down lab that was created by two people, The Fentons. It seemed to be around for more than a few years, no, over five years. That would make sense. Yet, the body I was in, Danny Fenton. Boiling with frustrated anger, trying to understand the past has came to me. There, my sister entered into the room, worried that I might go off the wall. I wasn't sure to see if anything was possible. Jazz was just being here, to ensure that it was all over. The next thing, the Fenton parents came down, marching in worried something so frail to break. I did not even cared for that. However, I knew what this was about. They walked over to this strange box, a metal container that will keep things fading away to nothing. Yet...it even creeped me out more than usual to see the sight of this. Walked up to my parents, even my sister came along, frighten as ever, and I looked. A dead head of my arch-enemy, his head was cut off before I could have done something. His eyes were opened, I feel he watches my every moves, and harder to believe that he was dead. I turned my head, the another room, a room in this basement that was even more creepier. Jazz practically knew what I need, to see the body. See its evil could do to us. Our parents looked at us, threatens us not to go into that room, and it was pure dangerous. That our lives could done for. Practically, I was already half dead, so it didn't scared me. Jazz...she knew I will protect everyone no matter. Once our parents turned around, We rushed into the other room, shut the door so quiet without a sound making to alert our parents, and Jazz sealed the door's voice traveling. It was safe for the both of us to talk. But, we kept our body low so mom and dad would not dare to see us in this room. Grounded hasn't affected us any longer because we're all heroes, we managed to deal to protect the people first before parents' punishments. We crawled over to this small closet and a small refrigerator. Wondering...what to drink, bunch of soda here, and some snacks. Plus, dad's favorite, fudge. Jazz wasn't focusing on having a drink, though, my throat, so dry enough to drink something. My hand reached to something randomly and drank quickly. Jazz searched into the small closet and grabbed a uniform protection. She handed me one, it was like a gray and white silver combined, but shaggy baggy like. We put it on and looked around. The room was so gloomy, yet, that feeling won't go away. Something here was supposed to kill us for good. Jazz grabbed out a weapon, to protect herself, and we went on to start the room on our own mission. Searching for the other half body. Nothing more, but the thing was...mom told us after the head was cut off and someone was grabbing its head. The body released its pure evil, that it makes your body trembles for it, and can manage to strike anyone down. It was something else. She said, that was why the body was kept in this room. Jazz constantly checking to see our parents noticed our away, still, couldn't hurt to look out. Being in this uniform protection did not make me feel safe, I had to transform to something makes me stronger. A phantom form, it felt that this form of my body makes me invincible more than anything. Jazz brought in a deep air into her body, my head turned immediately to Jazz, and her skin paler than ever. She saw the body, my mind feared to see the bloody body like last time, but mom and dad would clean that up before anything else. I turned to look and saw, the body...headless, but in a zombie way, but still fresh. The dream ends from then. I know, this was the weirdest dream I ever had from Danny Phantom. I haven't had a dream since...well, long ago. It was so weird to see this one, though. It got me curious even more why I had that dream. However, it was a perfect dramatic scene, but so intense. That I even wanted to know what was going on. To let you all know, I was in Danny's body. I have to say, the dead body was Vlad Masters. I don't know what happened before his death and all, but it was so creepy. In my head, seeing Vlad's head was so realistic. Never in my life, it was so creepy and horrifying in my life. There was absolutely no blood but the dry blood. You could see the anger in Vlad's eyes. More than enough, I never thought it was possible my mind has contains me now.I know it sounds like a story, but this is what happened in my dream. Every action, every emotions, and pictures. It was a clear dream on this one. more

Voting Question: Does this give you goose bumps?

A drunk man in an Oldsmobile They said had run the light That caused the six-car pileup On 109 that night. When broken bodies lay about And blood was everywhere, The sirens screamed out eulogies, For death was in the air. A mother, trapped inside her car, Was heard above the noise; Her plaintive plea near split the air: Oh, God, please spare my boys! She fought to loose her pinned hands; She struggled to get free, But mangled metal held her fast In grim captivity. Her frightened eyes then focused On where the back seat once had been, But all she saw was broken glass and Two children's seats crushed in. Her twins were nowhere to be seen; She did not hear them cry, And then she prayed they'd been thrown free, Oh, God, don't let them die! Then firemen came and cut her loose, But when they searched the back, They found therein no little boys, But the seat belts were intact. They thought the woman had gone mad And was traveling alone, But when they turned to question her, They discovered she was gone. Policemen saw her running wild And screaming above the noise In beseeching supplication, Please help me find my boys! They're four years old and wear blue shirts; Their jeans are blue to match. One cop spoke up, They're in my car, And they don't have a scratch. They said their daddy put them there And gave them each a cone, Then told them both to wait for Mom To come and take them home. I've searched the area high and low, But I can't find their dad. He must have fled the scene, I guess, and that is very bad. The mother hugged the twins and said, While wiping at a tear, He could not flee the scene, you see, For he's been dead a year. The cop just looked confused and asked, Now, how can that be true? The boys said, Mommy, Daddy came And left a kiss for you. He told us not to worry And that you would be all right, And then he put us in this car with The pretty, flashing light. We wanted him to stay with us, Because we miss him so, But Mommy, he just hugged us tight And said he had to go. He said someday we'd understand And told us not to fuss, And he said to tell you, Mommy, He's watching over us. The mother knew without a doubt That what they spoke was true, For she recalled their dad's last words, I will watch over you. The firemen's notes could not explain The twisted, mangled car, And how the three of them escaped Without a single scar. But on the cop's report was scribed, In print so very fine, An angel walked the beat tonight on Highway 109.it should have read i gave them ( The policeman ) each a cone more

Resolved Question: New Air Force vs. New Navy?

Please add to this if you can, I am pretty stuck on which way to go. So, I have decided to go to the Military, in either the Navy Branch or the Air Force Branch. I have done a lot of research on the matter, i.e. reading the basic training break downs for each, look at all job descriptions, looking at the deployments and the pay rates. Speaking with people who has 1st hand experience in both and reading about them. Also I have been looking at the new changes they have been making to branches these last few years So Far I have figured this out: Air Force = Basic training now is 8 weeks and seems to be geared toward mainly combat only. and BMT through the USAF is just one big mind f#$k to break you down, but then you are left to pick up the pieces. But this is done to weed out the people who cant handle stress. Jobs are scarce because the don't need as many people working because all of the tech advancements. The jobs are also specialized for you learn how to only perfect you job only. Depending on the job you get you could have the cushiest job in the world or be bored off your ass most the time. And moving up is harder/ none existent Money and Chances for education beyond tech school is very low due to budget cuts (putting funding toward new toys for the AF). Travel is what you make it pretty much and you have a great chance of having a life outside of the base NAVY= Basic Training is now the easiest more classroom time than others. The training facility is new and all inside. Not as much mentally hard as the Air Force. Physically is harder than the Air Force. Jobs: There is a variety of jobs, but you will always end up on a ship no matter what. The training for the jobs is very well rounded. You may be able to get the job you want as long as you scored good for it on your ASVAB. Pay is ok. Education is easy to obtain, they give you money for school and have schools on the ships and bases accessible to you. Travel is pretty much mandatory, you will see more ports all over the world. more

Resolved Question: Advice on which ROTC to join for commissioning?

Hey, I want to become an officer with fixed-wing aviation, securing computer networks, military intelligence, or infantry if I gain the courage (I would go to the Marine Corps). What ROTC do you think I should be a part of at Texas A&M University? I want to commission into the military and do something for my country, and make it my career (25+ years). I made a list of pros and cons, but I'm still very unsure. I know the final decision is mines, but I just wanted some advice. Thanks for reading. U.S. Navy +Pros -Travel -Love the sea -Great on education -More aircraft than the Air Force -Lots of tradition/politics/etc. -Best Technical Training +Cons -Can't do Information Warfare out of ROTC -Aviation and Surface Warfare are all I'm interested in for Unrestricted Line Officer U.S. Marine Corps +Pros -"The Few, The Proud" -Leadership Development -Travel, I think -Lots of tradition +Cons -Under the Department of the Navy -Usually train at the other branches facilities U.S. Air Force +Pros -Chance to fly the F-22, F-35B, C-17, or C-5. -Able to get into Information Warfare/Military Intelligence straight of out ROTC -Best educational push -"...73% can't get in, then they enlist in the Army..." -All Airmen have a dorm for themselves on-base +Cons -Who really likes being in the Air Force -Very overmanned -Only 1% are pilots/navigators -Lots of other officers -Low promotional oppurtunities U.S. Army +Pros -largest military branch -been a part of the Army JROTC -so many jobs -good promotional oppurtunities +Cons -no jets and very little fixed-wing aircraft, I don't want to fly a helicopter very much more

Resolved Question: My 2006 Acura TL's A/C is not working even with Freon in it. Any advice?

I just bought my 2006 Acura TL two weeks ago & noticed that when I run my A/C fan on HIGH with its temperature as COLD as it will go that my air compressor will start sounding/making like this clicking sound. It sounds like it wants to turn over but its not. When it does this noise I can smell the rubber hose that the A/C is fed through come out my vents. So what did I do, I thought it needed more ''Freon'' & bought the recommended Freon & put 14OZ. of it in the ''Low Flow'' line of my A/C. But it still has this problem. Here's the kicker, when I turn down the setting of the fan from HIGH to MEDIUM or even LOW the A/C starts working again after about 3 minutes of it blowing warm/hot air. I look underneath my car where the condensation excess comes out when the A/C is acting up & nothing comes out, BUT sometimes it is POURING OUT the bottom of my car. So in other words, it's not doing this: drip...drip...drip...drip. Instead, it is one stream line coming out. My car only has 34,000 miles & runs great. All except for this function. I am also a traveling sales rep & this is not making me look good when I go into offices looking sweaty. CAN ANY ONE PLEASE HELP ME???? more

Voting Question: help me with paraphrasing?

Can someone help me with paraphrasing this : Australians have long regarded life in the country as healthier than life in the city. Australian city-dwellers move to rural areas for health benefits such as clean air and reduced traffic congestion (Humphreys & Rolley 1991). However, people living in rural and remote Australia have many health disadvantages compared with their urban counterparts. These are demonstrated by higher mortality and morbidity rates for some diseases in rural and remote communities. Many factors can contribute to the rural health disadvantage, including: • geographic isolation and problems of access to care; • shortage of health care providers and health services; • socioeconomic disparities; • greater exposure to injury, in particular for persons employed in farming and mining; • lower road quality; • small, sparsely distributed populations; and • Indigenous health needs. Not all rural Australians have inequity of access to health services. They may benefit from having immediate access to ‘nursing home type’ beds, proximity to hospital, and the capacity to have their own general practitioner (GP) as case manager, before, during and after hospitalisation (Reid & Solomon 1992). However, most rural Australians recognise the need to travel further for access to services, especially for specialist consultations (Reid & Solomon 1992). Some people are compensated for their cost through the Isolated Patients Travel Assistance Scheme. However, this scheme does not fully pay for the financial and social costs incurred by the need to travel to seek medical assistance (Reid & Solomon 1992). Requirements for travel of patients and health care providers result in higher use in some areas of health care and lower use in others. For example, they may lead to lower rates of GP consultations and higher rates of hospital in-patient care in rural and remote areas because travel to a GP may be further than the nearest hospital. Models of patient care may also differ between urban and rural areas because of distance to health services. Patients with chronic conditions that require follow-up treatment are more likely to be hospitalised for that treatment in rural and remote areas, especially if they have to travel long distances to seek care. As well as the differences in the models of care, there are clear differences in the health status of people living in rural and remote Australia. These are demonstrated by the consistently higher levels of mortality, disease incidence and hospitalisation, and health risk factors experienced in rural and remote areas. A number of theoretical frameworks aid our understanding of the data and indicate that rurality is not the causative factor in poorer rural health. Rather, factors associated with rurality, such as poverty and less access to health services, are causes of the rural health disadvantage. By analysing the data for rural and remote populations, we hope to identify both the health problems and the reasons for these problems. more

Resolved Question: Good Idea to join the air national guard for training and potential jobs?

Okay a little info about my situation: I am a college graduate (Bachelor Degree Finance), but I want to join the military to add skills and give back to my country. I really don't want to be an officer for personal reasons, and would be happy taking basic enlisted pay (even with a college degree). The skills you learn to me can't be learned elsewhere and to be honest I would almost do it for free :-). I want to join the air national guard because I want to do something involving flight or space. If I join the Air National Guard I understand it's 2 days a month, 2 weeks a year, 9 weeks of BT, and 1 month to 1 year for job training, but I kind of want to spend more time working...is it possible they will let me come in more than 2 days a month? I work for myself right now and am very flexible on time so I would be willing to almost do this a lot more than what is required. If you get deployed to fight in the middle east (or any war for that matter) I understand the stay is shorter when you are in the air national guard (and that's the main reason I want to join because to be honest I am really against the war in the middle east)...is it true that the stay is shorter in the guard? And what are the odds of being deployed? I assume a lot less that active duty of course. How is the travel if you are only part time? I want to go anywhere I can...another reason for joining is travel. How many years do you have to sign up for? I heard 4, 6, and 8, but I cannot find an exact answer. I understand that you serve closest to your home, but can you transfer to other states? Is that likely to happen? I'm guessing that depends on the job too. Thanks for the info ahead of time!!!! If you are in the Air National Guard please tell me a little about your experience, both positive and negative. Are there bonuses for Guardians? I would assume they would be a lot lower than active duty, but their site says there are bonuses and list no details. Finally, I heard there was something that helped you pay back student loans? more

Resolved Question: Authors/readers please view this?

It's unedited, the sixth chapter of my book. The boy has a sister and they got seperated when men robbed a small village and took young boys to sell as slaves. Faldom tried to keep his sense calm and his body from twitching in anxiety. Two days they had been traveling with only a bit of water and barely any food, all the while having poor sleep from being forced to stand. The pirates were all out trading goods in the town. Faldom guessed they robbed the small towns and sold the wares at big ones. But that was about to change. Faldom watched as the last shadow of a man disappeared into the darkness. He began to saw away at the ropes with the knife in his hand. It was the exact same knife he had back at the village the day he was captured. He had kept a tight hold on it for the past two days, and now was the time to use it. He know most of the other boys there would have immediately attempted to escape. But they had been traveling over the plain lands without many places to escape. But now they were near a town and Faldom guessed a forest. Faldom cried out for a moment when he accidentally cut himself. One of the boys, the youngest one, brought his head up and looked at Faldom quizzically. “What’s wrong?” he asked. Faldom grunted before answering, “I cut myself.” The boy’s curious stare turned to an excited expression. ‘You have something sharp? Can it cut the ropes?” The chatter of possible escape instantly awoke the other boys like cold water on their faces. They all silently stared at Faldom while he sawed back and forth with the smooth blade. He was worried that any moment a pirate would come to the wagon with a potential buyer. Now that everyone knew they were escaping, there was no backing out. Everyone tried to keep their excitement quiet, but just in their eyes Faldom could see new hope. He cut himself accidentally about three more times before the ropes came loose on one hand. With one hand free he was able to make much faster progress. In a moment he had the other loop around his hand sliced in half, making only one deep gash. He quickly set to work on one other boy, the oldest. He was about fifteen, sow hen he was undone Faldom handed the knife to him. “Get the rest free. I’ll stay outside and make sure none of them come back. If any approach, I’ll distract them,” Faldom said. The other boy began to protest. “Just do it.” The boy understood there was no point disputing Faldom’s safety. He began to work on the others while Faldom jumped out of the wagon. A small breeze met him when he hit the ground. For the first time in days he could see the stars. Faldom went around the side and kneeled down, halfway underneath the wagon. The town dazzled with firelights. At one point a man came out of the village, but he quickly went back in with no sign of alarm. Faldom realized that they wouldn’t be able to find refuge in the town. It was really more like a city because it was so huge. It seemed luxurious to Faldom, only because he was used to hole and huts with straw ceilings. Their best hope of escape would be the forest. In a town like that it was likely there would be more slave traders. If people were willing to buy, there would be other people to sell. Faldom breathed in the fresh air and welcomed the chilly wind on his neck. Although he was cold he was still in good spirits. He even enjoyed it. The cold air seemed to wake him up. It was really about passed the very beginning of the spring season, but a “warm winter” took it’s place instead with excessive storms and a sun that seemed to only be there for decoration. A two boys hopped out of the wagon. It was then Faldom noticed they were twins. He tapped the side of the wagon to show them where he was. They crouched low and join him. Neither of them spoke. Both had black messy hair and gray eyes and looked absolutely identical. After a moment the little boy crawled out of the wagon and spotted them quickly. He began to speak, but Faldom shushed him. Even though it seemed they were alone, Faldom was sure there were men guarding the merchandise somewhere. In the next ten minutes the last three boys came out, the oldest who was cutting ropes last. Making sure that every single person was there, Faldom led them away. It may have been that everyone was too scared to think for themselves, or it may have been that it was Faldom who had saved them, but everyone followed him without doubt. He zigzagged them between wagons farther and farther away from the village. The entire labyrinth between vehicles, they had to dodge six merchandise guards. When they finally reached the forest edge and Faldom signaled everyone to go in no one hesitated except for the oldest boy. He stopped nodded either his thanks or approval before moving in. Faldom brought up the rear, making sure no pirates followed them. The twins led, the oldest boy in front of Faldom and the youngest in the middle. Fald more
