I just learned today my family is going on vacation to Aruba in April. The hotel we're staying at is fairly small. If I remember right, there are 8 buildings, each 4 floors. There is a beach behind us, but my family prefers to rent a car for the week and go to a beach 5 minutes away. There is a little resturant and some shops in the resort as well. Resolved Question: HELP! I've got 2 free plane tickets and want to plan a vacation, tropical and inexpensive, where would you go?

THIS IS A BIT LONG< READ ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO HELP ME DECIDE: THANKS! First of all I don't want to sound like I am complaining here, just confused on where to go. I realize I am very lucky to have the tickets! The plane tickets are for anywhere in the U.S. plus Cancun, Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Aruba. Most of these places outside the U.S. would be too expensive though in terms of hotel and food for me right now for two people, so where else in the mainland U.S. could I visit that is somewhat near a nice beach, maybe some shells, and isn't too expensive for a hotel there and food? I only have about an extra 1,000 for a 3 day trip somewhere for the hotel and food and spending. All I want to do is spend some quality time with my husband and sit and watch the waves, drink a tropical drink at a tiki hut, swim in a huge pool and possibly take a boat out to a little island to find some shells. (Otherwise I also have free hotel rooms at any Harrah's hotel in the U.S. so I guess they have Harrah's in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, New Orleans, Phoenix, and other places more inland in the U.S. That would be very cheap then since I would then have free air and hotel, but none of those places is really that tropical!) I could also choose to fly to New Orleans or Miami and try a 4 day cruise. Upside of that: fairly cheap and could see Key West AND Mexico ! And lots of food all included in the price Downside: I've never been on a cruise , sometimes there are hidden costs to consider, tipping, extra excursion, etc. and I wouldn't get into the pool with tons of people, no privacy, and could seem like I'm stuck on a boat with a bunch of drunks since I heard the 4 days cruises are "party cruises". Again see I'm totally stuck on what to do and where to go with these tickets! Anyway if I don't do the Harrah's free hotel thing or the cruise then, I was thinking possibly Pensacola, Florida since it is supposed to be cheaper and they still offer the touristy things to do there, but not sure if that might be too boring. Do you have other ideas that could work? I wouldn't mind using the free tickets to California but then the hotel prices are just too high. And Virginia Beach is supposed to be nice but I'm not sure if it is expensive to visit and I know it won't be as tropical as Florida or Cancun of course since there will doubtfully be tiki huts and tropical drinks/ not sure though? Also lots and lots of people say go to Cancun but I worry about a few things: crime to and from the hotels, crime at the hotels, crime going to dinner in the cities and I'd hate to see children begging on the beach on my vacation or stray dogs starving to death running down the beaches. If you've gone there, is that what you've encountered ever? Some previous yahoo people said that was what it was like, not fun for a vacation then. Someone recommended a place calledCancun Palace (p.s. my research shows: Le Blanc in Cancun looks amazing if you have more money than me for the trip!), someone else said Myrtle Beach, others Key West? Has anyone been to Key West lately, do you have any quiet beaches or are they all packed with crazy tourists? If I can't come up with a trip that my husband would also like, then he said I should just use one of the tickets to fly to my niece's wedding in Minneapolis and wait for the other ticket for something else ....BORING use of the 2 tickets I say, and then I might never go on the somewhat more "romantic" and "relaxing" trip with my husband. I think I'd rather just pay for the wedding ticket for myself separately.Sooooo ...... if you could go anywhere, where would you fly for a fairly inexpensive vacation with my 2 free tickets? I'm totally stumped on what to do and where to go! DH and I want to go on a relaxing, low-key vacation next spring. We want to lounge around, sit on the beach with a drink and maybe go on an easy excursion (just maybe). We're thinking of Aruba or Jamaica. If we went to Aruba, we'd stay in one of the high rise hotels. If we went to Jamaica, we'd try Sandals. Which place would make a better vacation? Or is there another island we should consider? We're in our late 20's/early 30's and we've been to Belize (loved it!) and the Bahamas (not so much). Thanks!Thanks for the responses so far. I have an opportunity to stay in either Aruba or the US Virgin Islands next summer, and would like recommendations on which is the better option? I would be staying in the Westin in either location (covering the trip with hotel points). My family wants to go to Aruba this spring for my Uncles birthday, because it is his favorite place in the world. However, I'm having a hard time with this. I went to Aruba two years ago and had a terrible time. I have an extreme phobia and fear or reptiles, and I kept having panic attacks while we were on vacation from seeing them all over the place. I feel if I don't go on the vacation my family will be disappointed with me, but I'm seriously freaking out. Is there any specific hotel or resort that doesn't have the iguanas all over the place?! If not, is there any way I can get prepare myself or get over this so I don't disappoint my family? I know they are harmless, but I'm still terrified of them. more

I am going on vacation with my 19 and 21 year old daughter and son. I have narrowed the locations to Aruba or Cancun. It costs more to travel to Aruba and takes longer and is more difficult than Cancun (originate in Chicago). Hotels are about equal. We would stay at Marriott Resort Palm Beach in Aruba or the JW Marriott Cancun Resort. It looks like the surf in Cancun is superior to Aruba. We are going to stay a week and would like to site see and tour a little while we are on vacation. I am leaning toward Cancun. Does anyone have an opinion to share on this.I am using Marriott award stay for this and the properrty in Cancun looks much nicer than Aruba. Also, I inend to stay mainly in Marriott(thery have nice beach and bars) except to tour Maya artifacts and other notable places. more

I'm going on vacation on Wednesday and I haven't decided where I'm staying yet. I've read a lot of bad reviews of the Oasis, but it's mostly people complaining about people partying. That wouldn't be a problem, since I'm 20 and I plan on mostly just partying when I'm there, so which hotel would be better for that? I've heard that Oasis is the best party spot, but I don't want to go there if it's going to be really low quality. How does Riu Caribe compare in terms of party atmosphere? i booked a "dream vacation" as a graduation gift for my daughter, online and what looked to be a great vacation turned into hell. A group of 8 of us arrived after 2 days of travel in aruba and when got to hotel the hotel manager told us that we had no paid reservations becuase the agent that i paid 10000.00 to had gone bankrupt. We're a young couple interested in going to the Caribbean for the first time in July or August, for about a week or so. We're budget concious but are happy spoiling ourselves if the reward is worth the expense. We're not much into the party scene anymore (been there done that, trust me!) so we're looking for something more on the notion of romantic and relaxing with a twist of fun or perhaps extreme sports. I have free flight credits from JetBlue so we're interested in using those and going to somewhere JetBlue flies: Aruba, The Bahamas (Nassau), Dominican Republic (Santiago, Santo Domingo), or Puerto Rico (San Juan, Aguadilla, Ponce). We do drink and can rack up some outstanding bar tabs so an all-inclusive may be a good idea for us but we have no real experience with that either. I am looking for some recommendations on places to vacation in the Caribbean. I know there are a ton of islands to choose from but I would like some recommendations from people that have been there. I am looking for the following: 1. Nice beaches that aren't too crowded (will be going in June of this year) 2. A place that offers other activities besides hanging out at the beach. (i.e. hiking, biking, cultural activities) 3. Something that is geared more towards couples. I have looked at Aruba, St. Lucia and Barbados.
