Map Aruba From Us Questions asked

Resolved Question: I disagree with Stephen Hawking about the nature of aliens, my thoughts enclosed, what do you think?

--I do it through deduction and logic: He is playing a trick (stephen), I think aliens, if they are a couple million years ahead of us, would have likely powered their civilization with all the energy they could ever want from fusion or sun(s) (one kilometer band around the earth of solar energy for one year, would be the equivalent of all the energy content in our oil reserves...thats our sun, can you figure out how much energy we could extract from an O star? Yea, thats right), extracted all the ore they could want from mining asteroids...and would likely have mapped and surveyed the entire galaxy (its only 100,000 light years accross)...and although that sounds big, think of it in terms of millions of years...its nothing...they likely mapped this planet as one suitable for life long ago, and if they would invade, they would likely invade one where the organisms on the planet were in the dinosaur era...By Hawking's own deduction, life might be average, if not plentiful, given the simple math and probability of 200 billion stars in our galaxy.....I think they know we are here, and since they have gone through a technological singularity ages ago, are likely huge brains that control various bodies, they may not even be from one dimention....They could very likely, if millions of years more advanced than us, use 'synth' humans to 'vacation' on our planet, without having to pillage and rape our resources...So one of them could be in its study, seeing other's thoughts and learning, its machines being powered by tiny fusion reactors on a ship and ore being extracted for various worlds through robots, and then go into a 'neural net' like avatar and control a human body and have a nice vacation in aruba...They likely know of us because: close light speed isn't really impossible..not even for us...solar sails can go to 95% of the speed of light (thats a fact, with our current tech, look it up)..100,000 light years is really nothing in the grand scheme of things...They likely mapped every solar system and every planet fostering life or hosting it....They probably saw us when we were dinosaurs....I see absolutely no need for them to invade because of plentiful energy from fusion and the sun, and plentiful ore from asteroids...if they turned their planet into a wasteland due to ages past from less sophisticated technology, they could either terraform it over a millenia, which is less time for them to get to us, most likely, or they would have gone to a planet with less civilized life (such as the jurassic period on our planet) to invade.... I don't know what hawking is smoking... I think we have not seen radio signals because either there are ancient biosphereswe ae looking at (dinosaur types) or really really advanced civilizations that communicated with things like fiber optics, etc rather than radio...I mean what is the likelihood we will find a civilization in our 200 year window of radio use.....the universe is billions of years old hawking is smoking crack.mr_grees I thionk there will be more commonality that you might think...If aliens ate the 'weak' ones, instead of just leaving it up to nature to weed them out, then they would presumably not have the same attachment to a child that we do, which is not really cultural, but biologically universal on our planet...and hence, parents would be less likely to nurture and help their young....hence, less probability of surviving.. So, I think there will be much more commonality than we might originally think, and I don't think that evolutionary tracks that are undesirable are necessarily a given....for example, aggression was useful for our survival during the caveman era...but in the future, it might be useless with things like nanotechnology able to goo the planet to oblivion or nuclear weapons....so its very forseeable we could use bio-engineering to eradicate these 'undesirable' attributes...and through trial and error, see the 'naturally selected' optimum strategyfor a stable civ....I see no reason why THEY couldn't have done the say, if we just project ourself say, 5 million years from now without going extinct.....New name... commodities if you want to get down to it are either minerals or biological in nature. Minerals can be mined from asteroids or planets that have no civilizations, not to mention converted from energy...And biological commodities can easily be generated through advanced bio-technology/nano-technology in a post-singularity society...Biochemical interactions could be engineered to generate any biological commodity we would want...scientists at MIT have already engineered a microbe to gather energy through photosynthesis and convert it to sugar, while another converts the sugar into ethanol...Sure, we could go through a technological dark age...maybe quite soon in fact...due to an economic collapse, a western default crisis and a series of defaults that trigger it....maybe even a resource crisis starting with oil.. But it is highyl doubtful, even with nuclear skirmishes, that mankind couldn't eventually harness these powers, and post-singularity, have any commodityat its disposal.. Look at any graph comparing the size of the sun and the Earth, and you will see that we have all the energy we will ever need. And look at the asteroid belt and its minerals, and youll see all the minerals we will ever need...Look at biotechnology and biological systems, and you shall see even a failed biosphere that cannot support us, can be slowly grown again through innovation...Many forests in the United States exist today solely due to man's will, from past ages of deforestation, crop yield has increased exponentially due to bio-engineering...our innovative capacity has allowed us to do this in as little as a century....even if the planet goes up to 400 degrees on the surface, the few that do survive will live in huge domes protected from the outside. So no, I disagree, I think we are used to a world of scarcity because we have not yet realized our full innovative potential as a self-aware entity. We have not planned aheadand have been apathetic about taking any sort of initiatve, and we are experiencing a clash of civilizations...of different perspectives...so not only do we have a growing populatio but a clash of perspectives, which makes people confused and conflictive in their natures....And although I think we are headed for a dark age soon, I think this hardly means the end of our specie, or of our ingenuity that will eventually allow us not only to use the power of fusion to satisfy all of our energy needs and asteroids our mineral needs, but we will go through the intelligence singularity, and we will fundamentally ceaze to be human after that...at least how we currently understand it. Kind of like when the first primate saw his own drawings...and became self-aware of his thoughts...starting a reaction by which his mind changed the brain, the brain the mind, and genetically modified the biochemistry of the brain through epi-genetics to lead to the product---us. Congratulations humanity.haha, well katzy, if thats true, then hawking is behaving very naughtily for such an intelligent man...But quite frankly, I think thats a pretty stupid way to look at it. Because 1, he could have gotten promoted without doing that, and 2, he could have gotten promoted doing the discovery documentary and saying everything I just said up above, and been just as interesting in promoting his book. I mean, he could have said instead that aliens are most likely are already here, which based on all the logic from above, is very very likely, so it would be both truthful in a way and interesting in order to promote his book... Yet, he choose deliberately the 'aliens could very likely be hostile route' which although as interesting, isn't as truthful if you use logic a priori, From the two, my strategy is both just as profitable but morally beneficial as well, so it seems he would choose that one if he were ONLY interested in promotion. But he didn't, he deliberately chosethe 'aliens could be hostile' because he beleives in it, not because of promotion, for he could have gotten promoted just as well with the 'aliens could be already here' strategy...Thus, the only explanation and rational conclusion is that he actually beleives in what he said in the documentary. And so, no, I think we just (a) are not thinking of something he might be thinking of but did not explain sufficiently or (b) he simply is not deducing things logically or (c) has deduced what I have deduced and is either meta-messaging the alines (unlikely) or erring on the side of caution (likely) I think I will go with a and c. I think everything I have upheld above is true, but some aliens (probably a fringe, 2% of the races) couldn't amass enough technological prowess to become post singularity, and so they resort to invade...kind of like the stupid pirates of the galaxy. However, even that doesn't make much sense, becaues they could more easily mineminerals from the asteroid belt than on planet earth. Not to mention mars may have more mineral deposits or even the moons of saturn, than the crust of the earth.....if its agricultural commodities or 'food' I find it highly unlikely that such a race could have travelled the galaxy in mass without some sort of life support system, and so it would be unlikely they would invade our world just for food.....it probably wouldn't even be appetizing to them, they would have grown their own crops in self-contained domes, gotten the minerals from asteroids, energy from the sun or fusion, and outposts on worlds that does not have intelligent life.Think about it...first look up 'asteroid mining' in wikipedia....Then put two and two together...If it takes as much energy to get to orbit on our planet...why would the ybother to invade our planet to mine minerals, which we don't even know they would know how to do without our help, when they can easily do it on a gravity-less asteroid which can be bombarded easily for mining without worrying about harming natives on earth by blowing up a mountain? Yea, asteroids are kind of.....wait a second...you know what, why don't we mine asteroids? I was looking at some of the stats, they have more ore in there than most of the crust on earth...look up 'project orion' then 'space based solar power' then 'launch loop' and put two and two together....Thats the only way we would become a space farying civilization, which we ahve the capability for, without it, we would die on earth...but with it, we would gain cheap access to orbit, and hence asteroid mining and solar energy...so yea, hawking is smoking crack. more

I think they probably know us way better than we know us, since they could simulate our brains on computers and know our in depth psychology better than we understand it. I think stphen hawking has reached this same conclusion, and he likely made the statement he made in order to give a meta-message to them: Hey alien buddy, mind helping us a little? I think stephen thinks their sneaky for not anouncing themselves, and wants them to help us out with the energy and resource problems, which he thinks are impending, and could lead to hardship on our planet..And the aliens, might not want to get involved--kind of the same reason we might not want to get involved in a dispute between two tribes in angola.....They do not want to get in a relationship with a primitive race, especially with one where the power is greatly tilted toward them...we are not their technological equals, and they will get into compromising and strange situations if they announce themselves to a race such as the human one. They have likely already calculated it. It sounds crazy, but its perfectly logical. Its either that, or intelligent life blows itself up...because just imagine us, in say, 5 million years...yea, I know crazy right? We would have very likely gone through many periods of civil strife and war, but eventually, either through bio-engineering or whatever, would have reached a stasis stage (if we survive, thats the premise for this whole thought experiment)...and there is no physical law or reason why we could not get all of our energy from fusion or the sun, and all of our ore from asteroids...we have seen what we can do with our CURRENT UNDERSTANDING: launch loop, space elevator anyone? we can currently build a ship that can reach 95% of the speed of light...solar sails? If we lasted 5 million years brother, we would have mapped the ENTIRE galaxy...its only 100,000 light years accross? we would have travelled it many many times and made a mental note --stored in a data bank which planets were fostering life....Im sure these aliens would have most likely seen our planet in the cretatious period! There is no need for them to invade! There are 100 billion stars in our galaxy! There are probably more habitable planets with stupid life on it than with 'slightly intelligent natives' on it! They have all the energy (stars) and ore (asteroids) and untouched biospheres (planets with stupid wildlife) they could ever wnat! And even if they do not, why would they invade NOW, and not a million years ago, when we were not here! No, I think they know very well we are here...why have we not heard anything? Well, let me put it this way, for most of human history...sorry, planetary history, we never used 'radio waves'...and in the future, we are very unlikely to use them either, just look at how fast our transition from analogue to digital took place in a decade in the US.....We will most likely be communicating with fiber optic/nanotech later in the 21st and thereafter....radio waves will be used less and less, until we use none...Its a fact, talk to any engineer who knows where communications are going.. So really, we are really looking for a 200 year window, where some civcivilization might be going through the same exact phase that we are going...how stupid is that! the universe is 15 billion years old!!!! That is why we have not heard anything. Everything we are looking at is either prehistoric, or incredibly advanced, what are the chances we are going to get a civ at our specific 200 year window of development... Why have they not contacted? I presume because they don't want to interfere (1) if they are really advanced as the type of civilization I suggested prior, and are waiting for some sort of opportune moment, and simply see us as a tourist destination---or they had a stephen hawking that told them what our stephen hawking is telling us...and stopped signaling thousands, millions of years ago, once they started to get cautious and thereafter advanced to greater technology...or, well, they blew themselves up. Those are the only options to me, in a universe that is billions of years old, and a galaxy that is relatively, just 100,000 liglight years across. I am sure a couple dozen races already know about us, and they either are just enjoying our planets resources by sneaking around like one of us, having a blast in aruba...or they are not interfering and only observing...No, I don't think they 'visit' earth in dish like ships and abduct people...they could very well just have gotten a sample of our blood, and either replicated it in a simulation, in something that could only be understood by us as a computer, or cloned the specimen without abduction....Furthermore, I think its a given they would have at least used an invisibility cloak.. we recently built an invisibility cloak for visible light! Sure, not fully developed...but in a 1000 years? are you F kidding me? We have a stealth bomber...just imagine what the hell we will be imagining thousands of years from now, not to mention a couple hundred or 50 years into the future....We could have very well cloaked a huge ship....they could very possibly be right ababove us...and we would never, ever know it... Just hope they don't have a magnifying glass.your thoughts on this whole debacle.Efran.. yes, but that precludes a higher evolutionary stage we may not have accounted for.... We have many neural prescepts that are quite animalistic and barbaric. And although useful for survival on lesser stages, such as when we were cavemen, these same instincts are quite detrimental when we are talking about nuclear weapons. I think genetic engineering and a technological/intelligence singularity, could very well create a race where any of these undesirable attributes to society and the individual would be wiped out, and due to the artificial intelligence explosion, could be harnessed to spread thousands of robots to harvest not only ore from asteroids, but to build any complex an alien brain might imagine... Everything could be powered by either the sun (look at space based solar power) or fusion....everything else would be a learning experience ....acheiving nirvana. I think this evolutionary track of alien..would most likely have satisfiedevery biological need, except curiosity...So I think conquering a planet would be anathema (we are talking about a civilization just 5 million years into the future of our current time....insignifcant, 15 billion years is the age of the universe) to a culture that could very well experience the earth indirectly through avatar sort of technology, the funcitonal equivalent if they had conquered it and experienced it themselves... and won't need to bother on energy or ore, because both of these are in plentiful supply both in stars and in asteroids... So I think stephen hawking is basically smoking crack.Gent...if that is the case, I am sure they would prefer dinosaurs, who are likely somewhere in another solar system, who are much bigger and much tastier....????? not to mention cows...I mean, Ive heard humans arn't that tasty, just ask sharks. I just don't understand his logic...Aliens would havce no interest in eating us...I guess we are all projecting our own evaluations of nature and the world... They are just reflections...But I highly doubt, that an advanced alien race, would see it fit to eat us, when there are plenty of planets with dinosaur mcdonalds to go to...Not to mention they would have stars, fusions, asteroids for ore, and the like to satsify their 'spaceships' as hawking says.. I mean in his documentary, he says that they may even travel to our planet via wormhole by harnessing the powr of a star...to....conquer us? WHY? why not use that energy to create matter out of energy and build up their spaceships?seems kind of absurd to me they would A...if only need parts for their ships take it from a remote blue planet rather than asteroids or other planets without a civilization or B Need to conquer our planet for energy when they have the sun, or to have a nice little blue island for themselves, when there are plenty of other planets surely in dinosaur era, not to mention we were a couple million years ago...so why not conquer and invade then...Just doesn't make sense to me. there is either no intelligent life out there, or they are likely obersving us this instance as we speak. more
