Open Question: Going to the Bahamas in July. Have a few questions.?

From July 1st-July 7th I will be going to the Bahamas. This will be my first time going on vacation without going with my parents I will be going with my brother and possibly some of my cousins. I live in the united states so what is the currency exchange rate between the us and the Bahamas? We will be going to Grand Bahama Island what time zone are they? Also we will be flying down to the Bahamas. We figured we'd save money by only eating out at dinner time and bringing food for breakfast and lunch. We're thinking of bringing cereal, white bread, oatmeal and soup down to the island with us will we be able to take these items on the plane with us? more

Resolved Question: Freedom of the seas - Advice?

I just booked my first cruise! I will be sailing on the Freedom of the Seas which is travelling to the Eastern Caribbean visiting the Bahamas, St Thomas and St Maarten. As I am a very novice cruiser, any and all advice would be great. Firstly, anything I need to know about this shop specifically - hidden secrets, places to visit. I also want opinions on what excursions are recommended for the ports I will be visiting, I only know I want to do at least 1 snorkeling excursion, where would be the best place to do that? Any unique excursions that are can't miss? Also, what should I be purchasing/registering before hand versus that is better to do on board. I have heard they discount certain things on board the first night so to wait on a few. Some things I know I will need is excursions, non-alcoholic drink package. To help, I will be travelling with my Fiance and will be having our anniversary on-board. We are both mid-20's and choose this ship due to the entertainment and activities on board. We will not be drinking on board as she doesn't drink and I typically don't when vacationer with her aside from the casual beer. We love games, the type you see in resorts - game shows, pool games etc. . more

Resolved Question: best ideas for a summer senior trip the end of this august?

so first of all we all live in orange county, california. i just graduated high school thursday and i'm wondering what to do for a trip! not a day trip like six flags, but an actual vacation that lasts as long as our money allows. i'm going with my boyfriend for sure but there's the possibility of two others coming along. all 4 (or both if that's how it turns out) of us have passports so it isn't a problem. we all have around 2-3K saved up for the vacation (which includes airfare by the way!!) as far as i know, so on average the cost could probably not exceed $2,700 each but it's not a definite number so a bit above that would be okay. definitely keep it below 3K though. -i love the beach so that would be a plus but it's not essential. -i'm not really a party person at all but everyone else i'm planning to travel with is, so that would be a minor factor in choosing a destination. i guess i can just read or watch tv while everybody else is partying. :) - we don't want to travel somewhere extremely hot at this time of year, like, for example, florida. seriously, it gets hot enough where i live and the last thing i need is to start sweating after a mere 5 minutes outside. extreme heat irritates me. -somewhere where our money will go far in all aspects eg: hotels, food, entertainment, etc. would be ideal. this might be a pro for choosing a foreign country where the dollar is stronger than the local currency. but an area in the us would definitely work too! -safety is another important factor. we will mostly be traveling in groups of at least 2. however, we definitely don't want to become a target for crime just for being white. -definitely don't want an all inclusive resort deal so that rules out jamaica and the like. i want to go out and experience the local culture/quirks and eat at nice places. -i love the outdoors. so anything like hiking, river rafting, wildlife viewing, etc., i'd love. one of my friends, and to an extent, my boyfriend, ehhh not so much. so this would be an ideal feature of a potential destination but shouldn't be all the place has to offer -please, keep the sightseeing (especially museums) to a minimum. we're 18, that's the last thing we're going to want to do. destinations we've already come up with but are skeptical about: hawaii would definitely be feasible :) but i have been to all islands except maui and kauii cabo- this would be ideal if it weren't 100 degrees there now! cancun - too artificial and not much to do besides party, though. humidity. brazil- this sounds lovely and i would love to visit, just dont know about the violent crime issue and airfare seems very expensive from lax. virgin islands- seems great, but we might get a little bored. too expensive? bahamas- see above puerto rico- see brazil minus airfare backpacking continental europe- expensive but would be fun uk/ireland- beautiful scenery but i fear we'd be bored namibia/south africa seems soo beautiful but i don't know about the safety issue italy- i feel like i would have a fun time but i don't know. i feel i'm too young to appreciate the vacation completely and absorb the culture. and it's expensive sri lanka- it's the cleaner version of india, correct? lol. i know little about this country except the tamil vs. singhalese conflict is over. oppressive heat and humidity. thailand- gorgeous country :) might be too hot, though. don't know about the security situation philippines- ^ bali- it is absolutely stunning and what a beautiful culture! might be too hot though. can the destination be fun for us teenagers or is it mostly for older people looking to escape from the fast-paced western world? airfare is expensive. australia- unique wildlife feel it would be a fantastic experience. might be too expensive new zealand-^ feel free to suggest any place and share any advice you have to offer! :) and if it is one of them on the list, feel free to prove my assumptions wrong!by the way, i forgot to include the language barrier. i would only feel comfortable vacationing somewhere where english, spanish, or french is widely spoken.thanks abe! :) more

Resolved Question: Questions for those who have been to Atlantis Bahamas?

I have a few questions about Atlantis (Bahamas) that I can't easily find answers to, but which I think almost anyone who's been there could. Try your luck at any of them...they range all over the board. Every little bit helps...thanks! 1. anyone have a link to restaurant menus *with prices*? 2. what are typical minimums at the Blackjack tables? 3. the currency is tied to the US dollar. I have a visa and mastercard from two major well known American banks. They charge a fee for each international transaction in addition to the charge converted to USD (at the rate they choose!). Even if the rate is 1-1, will I likely be charged the international fee if I use my credit card for purchases once I'm there? Does the answer change if it's in town vs. on the resort? 4. How robust is cell service there? I.e., even if my carrier says I can use it, or that I am allowed to use it, or that I should be able to use it....as a matter of fact in reality WILL I be able to ACTUALLY use it? (Please, no wisecracks about how I'm supposed to be on vacation so why do I care about cell phones, I know, I know.......LOL....) 5. For those who are familiar with the "twenty dollar sandwich" concept at big hotels in Las Vegas (and perhaps elsewhere), any such "protocol" going on at Atlantis? 6. For things like meal plans, internet plans, at-resort phone rental plans, excursions, any direct experience to suggest that if you wait until you get there, would those things cost more, less, or the same? I'm talking about bookings through the same Atlantis channels, not independent vendors offering the same tour for less, for example. In other words, are ads or info from the resort about these things which say it's cheaper in advance, or you can't get it at all once you arrive, a little bit of a bluff or is it true or is it the opposite (i.e., pre-arrival money grab)? Naturally I'm not looking for the "official" answer, but rather the actual answer from someone who's been. OK, that's enough to ask for now....thanks in advance to anyone with first hand, hopefully recent, information and experience....THANK YOU!Dave, really? Get over yourself. I've called them multiple times and spent hours on their website, and they've repeatedly told me they either don't know the answers to these questions or they won't or can't say. Of course I don't expect anyone to do ANY research for me. I never asked anyone to, did I? I simply asked if anyone already knows the answers to help me out. And you, for heaven's sakes, take the trouble to sign on and write a rather lengthy "answer" which says basically that you are exactly the person I was hoping to reach, have the answers I need, are opting to deliberately not answer, call me a few names, make a few careless and off-base value judgements, and then say that *I* do not understand the spirit of Yahoo! Answers. Are you kidding me? I asked a Question. Several, actually. I read your reply--it hardly looks like an answer. Resolved Question: Should we have a North American Confederation instead of a North American Union?

All members would maintain sovereignty,System of Governance, and Currency. We would open a borders on southern and northern fronts, allow free trade, maintain a defense force for North America, it would deepen cooperation while maintaining independence. What I'm saying is basically a more perfect unity in North America. Likely Members:USA, Canada, MEXICO Maybe: Greenland, Bahamas, We could together could fix our economies while not being tied to one another(Like the mess in the EU), promote prosperity through economical trade, share of resources(North American Oil Pipe line), stop the flow of narcotics with a joint North American Force. more

Resolved Question: Where to vacation (Caribbean) in early May? Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Other?

Hi we are going on a family vacation (me, 18 +2 parents) and not sure where to go. It will be for 5 nights and 6 days. We were leaning towards St. Thomas/Virgin Islands ($2700 with air, not food) but I feel like we might get bored on the beach for 5 nights since theres not much to do. Then we considered San Juan, Puerto Rico (also less expensive) because theres tons to do there. However, would the beaches be nice? We are open to other suggestions. $3000 budget- we'd love to do all inclusive. Looking for a place where the weather is nice in May (8-13) where theres more to do than just the beach; even though the beach is an important aspect. Any experiences? No cruises match our EXACT dates may8-13 more

Resolved Question: Canadian polymer notes in world wide use?

Now that Iceland is talking about adopting Canadian currency to replace it's badly damaged notes, it might be possible for a number of small nations to want to get on board. Countries with attachment to the Arctic (like Norway) and possibly Denmark and Sweden (despite their membership in the EU). So could other former British territories like Turks and Caicos, Bermuda, Bahamas, and the Eastern Caribbean, and Belize. Nominally, none of these currency children would have anything to say about Bank of Canada decisions, but if they begin to be enough of them things might change. There are some huge advantages (as the US knows) to foreigners adopting your currency. It's like free money for Canadian government. In particular if you are Canadian, how do you feel about other countries adopting your currency? more

Resolved Question: Schengen Visa application fee?

I have been trying to figure out the costs of the Schengen Visa for a few people who I am taking on a pilgrimage in Spain, they are international students in the UK, so to travel in Spain they need a Schengen Visa. I emailed the embassy and they gave me information on the "application fee" which is £52.20. Now does this price cover only the application? Because it says the application doesn't guarantee the visa. So I was wondering if you would have to pay more for the Visa once the application has been accepted, and how much would the Visa be? I emailed the embassy with this question and haven't heard a response in 2 weeks, so I have come here. Would love the answer, seems like the embassy might be trying to rip people off more

Resolved Question: How much do you blame Obama for the weak economy right now?

If you had to assign an estimated percentage of blame for Obama on the tough economic times, what would it be? For example, you would say 35% of the blame goes to Obama, and 65% goes to all other factors that have contributed to it. When you give your percentage, back up the number with facts and sources that support it. If you can't do that, then you are just wasting everybody's time with your ignorance.Michelle, I wish you'd be more supportive of your husband lol. Resolved Question: Bahamas, Fiji, Jamaica or Hawaii for a honeymoon?

hello! My fiancee and I are planning our wedding about 2 years in advance (so we arnt stressed when it comes closer) (so this is for 2013 , but i dont think that matters) we plan on having the wedding july 27th and leaving a few days after for our honeymoon. We are in a toss up btwn the bahamas, Fiji, Jamaica, and hawaii. So far the bahamas have looked most appealing, but I heard all they are about is money there, like it is ridiculous. we would like/ are looking for the following in a honeymoon location: horseback riding on the beach, possibly interacting with dolphins, the best hotel for the money (under $300 night), if possible...all inclusive, a spa area, jet ski or wake board, i really want to go to a swim up bar but its not a must, food options (I am somewhat of a picky eater), secluded and private hotel but we can go leave to see attractions and people if you get what im saying haha. That is about it, we would like to stay for 1-2 weeks depending on $$$. But I would like to hear your choice, especially if you have went on a honeymoon to one of the following choices, and if you have any other "must look into" destinations, feel free to tell! thank you so much!!
