I am a 25/F, and do not live a luxurious lifestyle, I am an experienced backpacker and know how to travel on a budget, and enjoy being part of the local culture. I have my first trip to the Bahamas Booked for August and i'm confused on currency. I am looking at this boat for purchase. It's in top condition and has been well maintained, almost mint. I know a lot about boating, and have been on the water all my life but never actually sailed. Main use is to have a weekend place to stay. However, it would be nice to sail to the Bahamas from Wilmington, NC for a couple of weeks in the summer. Is this a wise choice of boat for what I'm wanting to do? moreResolved Question: "Flagging" a merchant vessel?
What exactly does it mean when a vessel sails under a certain country's "flag." Clearly, most of the world's shipping does not actually come from Panama, Liberia, or the Bahamas. Obviously there's some symbiotic advantage to both the shipping company and the flagging country. What is it? Thank you. It's just a curious thing. moreVoting Question: Do I fit your expectations of a lazy, tax evading, freeloading Liberal convicted felon?
I went to college in the 1960's on the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant Program. I stayed in school until the free money ran out but earned a BA in Philosophy. When they made me leave school I got drafted. I tried to tell them that I was gay but they didn't believe me and sent me to Basic Training. To get out of the Army I shot myself in the foot with an M16 rifle and they had to discharge me. I told them that it was an accident but they didn't believe me so I sued them and they had to give me a partial disability for the missing toe. My father died and left me his 36 foot Alberg Sailboat which I moved onto along with my college girlfriend, Sophie. I started smuggling marijuana with the boat and got away with it for several years. One night the Coast Guard busted me as I was entering Destin Pass with a load of good Panama Red and they sent me to Federal Prison for four years. The DEA confiscated the boat but I had Sophie but it back at auction with money we had stashed from the pot running. Sophie stayed on the boat until they released me. While in prison they taught me computer graphics and I worked in the prison printing shop. When I got out of the joint I bought a Mac and began making fake ID cards for college students and fake papers for the Haitians in South Florida. I made good money doing this and saved enough over time for an extended cruise to the Bahamas and points south. I played music in the bars for extra money and since Sophie was a dance major in college she would sometimes dance at the topless clubs, sometimes knocking down a grand in one night. We kept this us for several years until my Uncle died and left us a little house on a canal in Cape Coral, Florida. We left the boat there and took off to "see America" in a camper van. We would stop in various cities and rent a Home Away motel. Sophie would dance when neccessary and I would play a few gigs at the bars. We ended up in Berkeley and rented a small apartment and Sophie danced while I finished my Masters in Philosophy. We went back to Cape Coral where I gave sailing lessons for the tourists and Sophie opened a dance studio teaching the rich folks kids modern dance and ballet. One of Sophie's little student's Mom was friends with Jeb Bush, the Governor of Florida. She liked Sophie and Sophie gave the daughter free lessons in return for her having Jeb arrange a pardon for me through his brother, George W. Bush so now I have a clean record. I turned 62 last year and got a letter from the Social Security Administration saying that I could start collecting my benefits. I thought it was a mistake since I had never had a real tax paying job but it turned out that I had paid taxes on my prison salary and did qualify. They now send me a check. I was recently offered a job with the State of Florida teaching Philosophy at the State Prison as part of a State/Federal college program for inmates. The director of the program is an old friend I met in the joint. I don't think that I will take it because any earned income above $12,000 penalizes by Social Security money so I will probably just help Sophie around the dance studio, maybe teaching guitar to the kids and be a mentor to them as best I can. But after meeting Gov. Bush I got interested in politics and worked as a volunteer on the Obama campaign. Several of our friends are encouraging me to run for Mayor of Cape Coral, Florida and I am considering it. My platform will be simple. I have nothing to hide. Good honest government. I went to college in the 1960's on the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant Program. I earned a degree in Philosophy and stayed in school until the free money ran out. I got drafted in 1967. I tried to convince the Army man that I was gay but he did not believe me. They sent me to Basic Training at Fort Gordon Georgia and I shot myself in the foot with an M16. It blew part of my little toe off and they had to discharge me. I told them that it was an accident and they didn't believe me so I got a lawyer and sued them. They had to give me a partial disability check. My dad died and left me his 36 foot Alberg Sailboat which Sophie and I lived on. I started smuggling marijuana into the Gulf Coast of Alabama but got caught by the Coast Guard after a few years and sent to Federal Prison for 36 months. The DEA confiscated my boat but I had my girlfriend buy it back at auction with money we had stashed from the pot running enterprise. While in prison I learned computer graphics and after I got out we took the boat to South Florida where I used my new skills to make fake ID cards for college students and fake papers for Haitians. My beautiful mixed race girlfriend Sophe was a dance major in college and she would dance at the topless clubs in Key West a fews nights a week, cash of course. She could knock down a grand per night sometimes. We saved a pretty good nest egg from the ID business and the dancing and left for the Bahamas. We knocked around the islands for several years where I would play guitar in the bars and and Sophie would dance occasionally so we had an easy fun life of boat living and partying. I even got to sit in with Jimmy Buffett one night at the End Of The World Bar. We finally came back to Florida where my uncle had left me a little house on a canal in Cape Coral. We left the boat, Sophie's Choice, and hit the road in a camper van. We spent a lot of time in Berkeley where I played in bars and Sophie danced while I finished my Masters in Philosophy. The government paid my tuition through a rehabilation program for convicted felons. We finally made it back to Cape Coral where I gave sailing lessons to tourists (cash of course) and Sophie started a dance studio, teaching the little girls of the rich folks modern dance and ballet. One of her student's mom was friends with Jeb Bush, Governor of Florida, and he arranged a pardon for me through his brother George W. Bush. Time went by and I turned 62 last year. I got a letter from Social Security and thought it was a mistake since I had never had a legitimate tax paying job. But it turned out that I had just enough quarters from working in the prison printing shop to qualify so I took it. I have been offered a job teaching Philosophy for the Florida State Prison System, a Federal/State college program for inmates. The director is an old friend from Federal Prison, another ex-pot smuggler. Its not too bad a drive over to Punta Gorda and it might be pretty fun teaching those guys an Ethics course. But maybe not. I have come this far without seeing my name on a W2 form, except the one from prison, so maybe I'll just give some more sailing lessons now and again. But since President Bush restored my voting rights I have become intersted in politics. I was a volunteer for the Obama campaign and thinking about running for Mayor of Cape Coral, Florida. moreResolved Question: Going to the Bahamas (Nassau) at the end of the month and have some questions...?
Ok I live in Key West, FL so if the weathers anything like here ill probably be ok with the clothes im planning on bringing, but I do have other concerns as this is my first time traveling to the Bahamas... When we get off the cruise ship (carnival) in Nassau, what is there to do in the immediate area? We are planning on doing some tours or something when we get there, but like I said I live in key West so I don't want to do something I could do here any day of the week like: Para-sailing, Jet Skis, Snorkeling, etc. So what are some good tours to look into? ive heard of horror stories in Mexico with tours so were a little worried about these. And are there any bike rentals in the immediate area? A bike tour wouldn't be a bad idea either? How much would they cost to rent? In my last questions I ask about tours, but I only want to do the tours to get history and culture of the Bahamas. Once im done with the tour(s) I want to explore on my own which brings me to my next question...Is it safe to walk/bike around by ourselves, and are there good maps of the area to help us navigate around? We probably wont have a ton of money to do the tours and such so is it extremely expensive to do theses things? Again I live in key west, fl so im trying to stay away from water activities that i could just come back home and do i want to get into some real stuff not real touristy stuff but at the same time i want to have a safe enjoyable experiance. moreResolved Question: Republicans: Do I fit your idea of the lazy, dope smoking, welfare loafing Liberal bum?

My father died and left me his 36 foot Alberg Sailboat which Sophie and I lived on. We started running pot to the Gulf Coast of Alabama and got away with it for several years. Then I got caught and sent to the Minimum Security Prison near Atlanta for 36 months where I learned graphic arts and computer design on the public nickel. The DEA had confiscated the boat but I had Sophie buy it back at auction with pot money that we had stashed before the Coast Guard busted me. When I got out of the joint I started a business making fake ID cards for college students and fake papers for the Haitians in the area. This was all cash of course. She could knock down a grand per night sometimes. We eventually came back to Cape Coral where my uncle had left me a little house on a canal so we could dock the boat, then knocked around the country, spending a lot of time in San Francisco and Mexico where the living was cheap. We made it back to Cape Coral and I started giving sailing lessons to tourists, cash payment of course. I turned 62 last year and got a letter from the Social Security Administation. I thought that it was a mistake since I had never had a legitimate job. But it turned out that I had just enough quarters of work from my time working in the prison printing shop to qualify. I was recently offered a teaching job at the Florida State Prison as they are looking for someone to teach an ethics course in their Philosoply Department. The director of the program was in Federal Prison with me those many years ago. But I would have to drive quite a bit to teach the classes so I don't think I'll do it. We don't really need the money as Sophie teaches the rich folks kids over in Ft.. Myers modern dance and ballet. So there you have it. I have never had a real job. I was educated mostly at government expense and with untaxed money from Sophie's topless days, was a convicted felon until Jeb Bush pardoned me (one of Sophie's ballet students parents were friends with Jeb). I never paid a dime into Social Security until they locked me up and now I get a check. Please don't hate me. Allow me to confess my sins. I went to school on the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant Program. I sold pot on the side for fun money. They paid my tuition and I stayed in school studying Philosophy and Anthropology until the money ran out but I did earn two degrees. I got drafted into the Army and then shot myself in the foot to get out and not be sent to Vietnam. I told them that it was an accident but they didn't believe me. So I got a lawyer and sued them. Now I get a partial disability check from the VA. My dad died and left me his 36 foot sailboat. I used it to smuggle pot onto the Gulf Coast but got caught and went to Federal Prison for 36 months. The DEA confiscated the boat but I had my girl friend buy the boat back at auction with money was had stashed from the drug running. While in prison I learned computer graphics on the government nickel. After they let me out they sent me to Vocational Rehab and I got more training in graphic arts. Then I started a business making fake ID cards for LSU students so they could get into bars and such. Then later I made fake Green Cards for Mexicans. I never reported any of this income, always being paid in cash. I am also a pretty decent guitar player and knocked around South Florida and the Bahamas for years, living on the boat, playing in the bars for tips and hooking up tourists with the local Bahamian boys so they could get some smoke while on vacation. I never sold it myself. Learned my lesson and paid my debt to society. The boys just tipped me for my trouble. Things continued on like this until last year when I turned 62. I never had a legitimate tax paying job in my life but got a letter in the mail from the Social Security Administration. I thought it was a mistake but it turned out that while I was in the joint, they were cutting taxes on the money they gave me to work in the prison printing shop. I had just enough quarters in to qualify for Social Security so I get a check each month. I have since redone the old boat, The Chong, and give some sailing lessons for tourists down here in Cape Coral, Florida. Somewhere in there I managed to go back to school and finish my MA in Philosophy. My girl friend was a dance major in college and she would dance at the topless clubs a few nights a week and paid my tuition to the Univsersity of Miami for my Masters. Recently I was offered a job at the State Prison teaching Philosophy to the inmates as part of a Federal/State college program. They are looking for someone with my credentials. My Masters Thesis was On Situational Ethics In Modern Society. The salary isn't bad but I don't know. It would require me to drive a long way three days a week and it will interfere with my fishing. And maybe I'n not really the right guy for the job. Do I meet your expectations? moreResolved Question: Precalculus Question?

John Cabot knew where he was going when he sailed, as the Bristol fishermen had already known about the western lands. Columbus thought he was in India and he only reached the Bahamas or some other islands. He was lost. Since Europeans were claiming more traditional English fishing grounds the Bristol fishermen were forced to go farther and farther west for their catches. They had discovered the rich Grand Banks of Newfoundland. There were so many fish there they kept it a secret so the Europeans wouldn't find out about it. So Cabot knew where he was going when he started. moreResolved Question: Can any one provide family Cruise info?

We are wondering if we actually need them, the cruise departs Port Canaveral, FL and goes to a private island owned by the cruise line, then to Nassau, Bahamas and then back to Port Canaveral, FL. Is the passport absolutely required since we are going back to the same port we are leaving from? We are sailing with Royal Carribean if that makes a difference. Thanks! But, I read that since we are leaving and arriving at the SAME us port, it is a "closed loop" cruise and a passport is not required, just birth certificate and photo ID. Does anyone actually have experience with this?? moreResolved Question: Have you experienced plumbing problems on Carnival Destiny?
I'd like to hear if anyone else has had the same experience. I just returned from a cruise on Carnival Destiny that set sail Sept. 21, 2009 to the Bahamas. I had read negative reviews on cruisecritic.com regarding plumbing issues but had decided that many months had gone by, gave them the benefit of the doubt, and assumed the cruise lines would have solved the problem. NOT!!! Read this cruisecritic review: http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=58342 The person who wrote this review had used towels to soak up sewer backup water in his/her stateroom bathroom, reported the problem and no one responded. That's funny I did the same thing and experienced the same thing. I set sail two weeks after he/she did. The purser's desk failed to call for help when I went there in person to complain about the situation and was told help would be coming "Now." Carnival Destiny has been having ongoing problems with plumbing failure causing sewage back ups into the bathrooms. You can read all about it on Cruisecritic.com. The problems go back to September 2008 AFTER the ship returned from a two-week dry dock. If you've had problems with the ship and your reports were never addressed, contact Debra St.Amand, Guest Care, Carnival Cruise Lines at guestcare@carnival.com All I got from the cruise line was a slew of apologies and nothing else. I am also in contact with another passenger who experienced the same problems in September 2008. moreResolved Question: What are the best cruise excursions on RC Majesty of the Seas 3-night Bahamas cruise?

I have an 8 year old minature shnauzer, and i've been trying really hard to train her to go on our green mat the astroturf. We just moved on a boat, and she needs to learn so that we can sail to the bahamas with her. Heres what ive done so far. Everytime she pees we say "go pee" and reward her. So after we thought she got the idea we kept her in the boat and took her out every hour and told her to "go pee" on the astroturf. She actually went 24 hours without peeing, i was worried so i gave in and took her to shore. I started trying to train again, and finally after 15 hours she peed on the mat. After she did i rewarded her and praised her, and took her for a walk. I didnt let her go again after that, and she went 15 hours again without peeing. She did finally go again, but she still wont go when i tell her. I'm just worried that she won't get the idea, and that she'll hold her pee in again and again until she gets sick. Please help, tips, or just let me know if its ok for her to not pee that long. im really worried about her, and leaving her behind is not an option. moreResolved Question: Ten items for this novel?
I'm doing a project on the novel A Salty Peice of Land by Jimmy Buffett, and I need ten items for a project that describe the novel, it's kinda hard :/ Here's a summary of the novel. A Salty Piece of Land brings back the character of Tully Mars from Jimmy Buffett's previous novel, Tales from Margaritaville. Tully is a Wyoming cowboy on the lam. The ranch where he lives and works has been converted to a poodle ranch run by a universally hated woman by the name of Thelma Barston. After Tully throws a massage table through her plate glass window, she uses her political connections to trump up charges and have a warrant issued for his arrest. Tully takes his faithful steed, Mr. Twain, and decides he wants to see the ocean. With bounty hunters on his trail, this begins a series of adventures for him that will take him to the Alabama coast, Key West, Mexico, Belize, Cuba, and the Bahamas. Tully is a kind soul, hard worker, and a quick learner. He befriends a shrimp boat captain named Captain Kirk who teaches him his first lessons about the ways of the sea and transports him and Mr. Twain to a remote part of the Yucatan peninsula called Punta Margarita. He also meets and begins a budding friendship with a musician/treasure hunter/pilot named Willie Singer. Tully lands a job as a fly-fishing guide at the Lost Boys fishing camp in Punta Margarita. It's run by a man named Bucky Norman who leases the land from the manager of a country western singer named Tex Sex. The other fly-fishing guide is a Mayan shaman, Ix-Nay. In the remote outpost of Punta Margarita, Tully feels like he can leave his past behind and try to figure out where his new life will lead him. On a trip to the Mayan ruins at Tulum, he's stranded when he totals a Jeep. While waking a from a ganja-induced dream on the beach there, he sees a beautiful schooner coming into the bay. Its captain is 101-year old Cleopatra Highbourne, and she's on a mission to find a fresnel lens for a lighthouse she wants to refurbish on the Bahamian island of Cayo Loco, the salty piece of land of the book's title. It's an endeavor that will eventually involve Tully and his friends, but first he must make a trip to Belize to find a Land Rover to replace the Jeep. A man on the run from the law with a fake passport and bounty hunters in pursuit must be careful. Which is how Tully ended up in the middle of a wild spring break party with a couple hot college girls. That's a quick outline to the plot, although the plot is not that important. It serves as the vehicle to further the adventures of Tully and his new-found friends. Some of the chapters in this novel are letters from Willie Singer as he searches for a fresnel lens while island hopping his way across the south Pacific in a seaplane. Each adventure is just plain fun as Tully finds out what's important to his life, and that answer is invariably a sense of ethics, a lot of fun, and good friends you can count on anytime. It helps that a lot of these friends are very wealthy and can come to the rescue at the drop of a hat. Tully continues to find like-minded people, often making instant connections as if they share the same karma. Karma and mysticism play a recurring role in A Salty Piece of Land, from his father's friend and Indian medicine man, Johnny Red Dust, to Ix-Nay the Mayan shaman, to an odd religion on a forgotten South Sea island. A Salty Piece of Land is a fun ride through Jimmy Buffett's idea of paradise, and you get the sense it's a place he's visited often. Many of his own loves, flying, sailing, and fishing, are featured prominently in the novel. It's a world where drink, ganja, and fun are pleasant additions if not done to excess. It's also a place where the dark forces of greed, corpocracy, and pollution threaten paradise. A disdain for tourists and resorts and an affection for indigenous people who've learned to live off the land runs strong through the novel. Even Cuban baseball, played for pride instead of greedy contracts, plays a role. This is not a literary novel and A Salty Piece of Land has no pretensions that it is. There will undoubtedly be those readers put off by its lack of any real drama or suspense. At times it's predictable, but it's a comforting predictability at that. You know the good guys will win, the friends will be there in the time of need, and all surprises will eventually be pleasant ones. That doesn't distract from the enjoyment of the novel, but adds to it instead. Jimmy Buffett's prose easily transports the reader to the different settings in his paradise. I don't fish, I've never sailed a schooner across the Caribbean, or flown a plane. By the end of this novel, I wanted to do all three. Therein lies the charm of this book: its easy access to warmth and beauty of many types teehee...anyways, i already have a Jimmy Buffett shirt because he wrote the novel and a poodle because Tully gets transferred to a poodle ranch, I'd LOVE some help! Thanks:) ~Miss moreResolved Question: ::::Do you need a passport to go on a cruise to the Bahamas:::?
