Resolved Question: Do you find it shocking that a mother of a 5 month old could be so irresponsible?

"A five-month-old baby boy has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening burns after spending a day in the sun on Brighton beach." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8703596.stmhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8703596.stmI think what shocks me is that reports of the incident say, even though his skin had already begun to blister by the time he reached hospital, it wasn't even his MOTHER who sought medical help! Even then it took a quick think Police Officer to call an ambulance for him. Poor little love. more

Resolved Question: We all know to put sunscreen on our children, and keep them in the shade don't we?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1281274/Mother-investigated-police-baby-badly-sunburnt-beach.html A mother is being investigated by police after leaving her five-month-old baby in the sun on the hottest day of the year, causing him to suffer horrific injuries. The toddler, who has not been named, sustained 20 per cent burns while the 29-year-old relaxed in 25c heat on Brighton beach, East Sussex. The boy was spotted by community support officers patrolling the packed seafront, as thousands sunbathed on Sunday afternoon. For once CPSO's actually doing something useful by the sounds of it. What do you make of this mother's mothering(?) skills? more

Voting Question: Russian Mafia in Brighton Beach - Is it real or does the media blow it out of proportion?

Does the Russian Mafia really exist or is the media blowing it out of proportion? And if it is the media exaggerating, then why are they doing it? What is it about Brighton Beach that the media had to go in there and give it a reputation of a dangerous area full of Russian Mafia lords? Those in the media business can tell you, most of them don't make money by telling people things they don't want to believe or don't hear. Rather than an evil, independent force, "the media' often in part reflects popular ideas, prejudices, and attitudes. The real question I am addressing is why "The Media" wants to do in Brighton Beach? more

Resolved Question: What do you think about Coney Island?

Hi, I've been to New York a few times and I tried to "explore" the whole of the area (for what is possible). The city, apart from being great (that's predictable), has got some boroughs I didn't like at all. I mean the Bronx and its problems are acknowledged (all in all there are things somehow characteristic if you're a stranger) but the borough I really didn't like was Staten Island. Manhattan Beach and Brighton are still ok (though not great) but Coney Island is terrific in my opinion, full of those hideous subsidized apartments and abandoned-looking places... What do you think about that borough?Careful what do you mean? Yeah I know I can't stroll around at 1 A.M. wearing a golden Rolex. But I think you have always to be careful, no matter where you go, maybe in some contexts a bit more... more
