I'm a 25 year old male and will be moving in the next couple of weeks to Orange County, California. I will be working at the John Wayne Airport. I don't know too much about the area and am trying to get opinions on areas to live. I currently live in New York, so I doubt I'll be surprised by the cost of living. I'm open to finding a place with roommates (probably via Craigslist), and am looking to spend hopefully not more than around $1000/mo for my share, but could go higher for the right thing. I'd also like to keep my commute to a minimum, which I realize may be like trying to have my cake and eat it too. I believe the airport is more or less around the middle of the county, which would help out. I'm looking for somewhere with a decent amount of restaurants/bars, preferable within walking distance, and a sizeable younger population. The beach would also be nice. I've been looking at Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and the Laguna Beach/Niguel areas. Of course I'm sure there are other neat places further inland that I don't know about, so I'm open for all suggestions! Ideally, I'd like to keep it to within around 20 minutes to the airport, and I'll be working kind of odd hours, so I'll be doing my commuting either before or after rush hour(s). more

I live in Newport Beach, California. My complex is in a thick residential area, bordering the neighbor city and in the middle of a 40+ y/o suburb. Now, the issue lies in my overlooking the possible issue at first. I just started the 4th month of my 12 month lease. When I was looking at the place and considering the move, I was told about the dog "kennel" (singular) that was in the rear of the complex, conveniently where my unit is. A noise issue was the only thing I was warned about, and that factor got me a competitive lease price. So I moved in, and have ZERO other complaints about the place. But 4 months in, and I'm miserable. I have bites up and down my arms, especially elbows. Some on my stomach area, and knees. I get prickly bites, often, when I'm in the unit. The noise, which is constant, doesn't bother me a bit. I figured this can't be healthy, so I'm fed up. I'm a professional and have a standard of composure I must uphold, and I look like a drug addict scratching at my suit sleeves all day at the office. I don't scratch often but you get it. Management taking action is out of the question. Don't ask me to go detailed but lets write it off now. As it turns out, thanks to some help from google maps, that this kennel is actually 3 or 4 single story houses in the neighborhood that have converted themselves to kennels/day care centers for mutts. Is that even legal in an area zoned for residential? It must be because they're established around here. Is there any responsibility on their behalf to manage an infestation and/or offer aid to surrounding parties effected? Not to mention the noise 24/7, which personally doesn't bother, but this is Newport. When I was younger I got noise complaints from playing Doom too loud wit 2ch 8bit speakers in my room with he window open. Get the picture? Everything from barking, whining, to yelping. With the machine gun like chain reaction at 4am lasting until almost 6am. Fridays they bathe them, so it smells of death. And we're at a slope so the drain off has come int the units paved areas through the drainpipe in the property wall. All these factors, MUST merit some sort of action taken, right? I'll bomb tomorrow but since the problem is only 100ft away, that's a temporary fix to an issue here before me and likely to stay after. Any guidance is much appreciated. Thanks. more

Long Beach after grad for a while and I was down a ways from Poly HS (Cam'ron Diaz and Snoop went there) and where Snoop used to buy his music, and had a video with Diddy on the roof. Okay, so I'm like a girl who wears super skinny jeans, and a neon or black shirt and a oversized black hoody... like last year i wore a charlie the unicorn hoody... I like colored jeans and short shorts... I don't know if that's still okay to wear. Can you help me describe the beaches in Southern California? I've been to two, ideally i'm looking for a beach area to move to. I'm a single early 20s male who doesn't need work or worry about money. Huntington Beach had great waves, lots of teenagers, early ~20s hanging out in groups. The area around Huntington is pretty dead, not lots of nightlife. Not much going on from what I saw. Newport beach has lots of restaurants and touristy stuff around, the beach itself was packed, mostly with families. The waves weren't huge like Huntington. Newport had lots of property right by the beach. Do you feel like this is a sound depiction? Can you give me your description of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica, and Venice? I was down visiting my Dad and step mom and bro and sis, but I'm caucasion and they were all african american in my dream for some reason!? I lost track of the day and thought it was my last day there but it wasn't. We were in FL but it seemed like Hampton Beach which is in Massachusetts. I ran upstairs into this building that looked familiar but at the same time wasn't and ran back downstairs saying, I'm here for one more day! Can we PLEASE go to Newport beach? How far away is it? And the man, IDK if he was my Dad (african american dude) was like, well.. it's only 20 minutes away yes we can go! And I got so stoked, and suddenly we were in California! I am planning on moving to the area in the future, but I don't really get my dream. Maybe it was senseless. But right now I have a bad headache :( more
