Orient Beach Questions asked

Voting Question: Help me help my best friend?

I know it's her life and what right do I have to help her? blah blah blah. I'm worried about her. That's why I'm asking this. She's 17. We have been best friends for 15 years. She used to be so goal-oriented, and she was a strict Christian and got upset at me if I ever even cursed around her. Basically, I was the wild one and she was the one that kept me in line. So last summer she started changing. She got a car and that means freedom. She made friends with the wild popular clique (we go to different school, btw). Then, she started drinking... a LOT! On our annual trip to the beach she basically stayed drunk or hungover. (I don't drink usually, I've never been drunk) Then, she started smoking. Now she's chain-smoking and her mom supports her habit. Ugh then she starting have sex with her boyfriend of a few months. That wasn't a big deal, but now since they've broken up she started having sex with random guys at parties while drunk. I'm worried about her. :( She's had pregnancy scares and I'm worried she'll get pregnant and not even know who the father is! She failed a lot of classes this year and now she has to go to community college. This is big because she was always planning to go somewhere like Duke or Princeton her whole life. What should I do? I feel like she's ruining her life. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Is rollerblading not 'cool' anymore?

I honestly only see people rollerblading around beach areas or fitness oriented parks. Is it really not cool anymore? I mean, i love it. It's fun and a good way of exercise without getting overly tired. Plus you can do it just for fun and still get benefits from it. What do you think about it?JAY- i'm pretty sure most girls don't skateboard/bike, they only snowboard. Unfortunately though, that's only a winter activity. more

Resolved Question: Best state for a student to live in?!?? Input is greatly appreciated!?

Ok, me and my best friend live in Green Bay, Wisconsin right now. Going to school. Granted its a very nice place to live, very safe here we just want to get out its boring, its more a family oriented town rather than a student area. Our goal is to be gone by next year. We need YOUR help with first off picking a state, once we have our state picked we'll ask to which areas to live in. We would prefer a place that is safe, stuff to do (beach, a clean bar atmosphere, etc.) Also most importantly affordable. We also wouldn't mind a more warm place, because lets face it Wisconsin winters are nothing to brag about. Her choices are: Washington, Texas, Nevada, North Carolina, Massachusets, Missouri, Virgina, New York, California. My choices are: Virgina, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Arizona, Georiga. If you could please please please read through this and pick the best state out of MY choices and HER choices. And then pick the overall best choice. THANK YOU so much! more

Resolved Question: After reading this bit of history I don't understand why there is hatred of the Jews by Muslims?

I posted it in the religion section and there was no interest: at least there was no animosity... The year is 1924. This year on the 4th of March was the 86th Anniversary of an event so momentous that we are still feeling the after-shocks of it today. It marked a turning point in history, but one that many people are blissfully unaware of. To fully appreciate it the significance of this anniversary, we must take ourselves back to Istanbul. It is sometime after midnight. A single light, coming from the library, is on in the Dolmabache palace. There, an old man sits and reads the Quran pondering over the state of his Ummah. Even though he is surrounded by such opulence as the eye can barely contain, he cuts a lonely figure. His name is Abdul Mejeed and he is the 101st Caliph of Islam. Two years ago, his cousin Muhammad VI had been exiled to Italy (where he later starved to death) and the Ottoman Sultanate had been abolished. The secular forces of the Young Turks had finally brought about the end of the Ottoman Empire, yet they didn’t feel they could abolish the Caliphate straight away. They began a campaign of violence and intimidation making sure that all those who would support the Caliph were removed from the picture. Finally, on the night of March 4th, they made their move. A young army messenger opened the door to the library. The Caliph continued to read the Quran. The messenger initially was taken aback by the sight, but steeled himself and read out the proclamation from the Grand National Assembly. The Caliph refused to leave Istanbul, but his staff were worried that they would all be killed by the army that had now surrounded the palace. After weighing his few options, he reluctantly packed some of his clothes and went into exile. Before Fajr prayer, the Caliph was taken to the main train station at gunpoint where he and his family were put on the Orient Express bound for Switzerland. An envelope containing £2000 was given to the man who left behind entire palaces full of diamonds, emeralds and gold. The station master quickly took the Caliph and his family into his small house adjoining the train station to shelter them from the cold on the platform whilst they awaited the train to start on its sad journey. As they drank tea, the Caliph thanked him for his hospitality. The station master, a Jew, began to cry. “How can you thank me?” he asked knowing that it was the Caliphs of Islam who had preserved the life and dignity of the Jewish people whenever they were persecuted elsewhere in the world. Instead, he thanked the Caliph for the honour of being able to serve him even if for the briefest moment. In the morning, the Muslims awoke to the news that they had scarcely believed would ever happen – the Caliphate had been abolished. There were isolated riots and uprisings in various places, but the army put them down ruthlessly. The last Caliph spent his days walking along the promenade of a beach in Nice, France. There he lived a humble life until he died of a heart attack in 1944 during the Nazi occupation of France. Now, on the 86th anniversary of this earth-shattering event, the United States of America still has its President, England still has its Queen, and even the Catholics still have their Pope – but the Muslims are condemned to roam the wilderness leaderless. Caliph Abdul Majeed II was eventually buried in Jannat Al Baqi cemetery in Medina. Amidst the great heroes of Islam’s past was laid to rest our most potent symbol of a fractured present. There to this day, the first and the last Caliph of Islam lie within a few yards of each other – a reminder of a once great Muslim nation that has no one to lead it. more

Resolved Question: Good New Jersey Beach near Monmouth County?

I was looking for any recommendation on a good beach near Monmouth county, NJ. I'd prefer a beach that is not too too crowded and more family oriented verses "The Jersey Shore" type of beaches. Thanks! more

Voting Question: Love him to death, but he won't grow up? D:?

I've been dating the same guy for two and a half years. We're 18 &19 so we are fairly young. Let me just start off by saying that I'm so in love with him and I can't see myself falling out of love with him. He is all I think about and he makes me want to be better. I do all I can to satisfy him, emotionally, physically and mentally. Sometime he is the sweetest guy. Here is the thing-he is immature as heck. I call him to have a conversation and I can hear him playing video games in the background. He doesn't have a job or a car, which isn't usually a big deal to me because I don't have one either, but I'm working on getting both. I spent the past school year trying to keep my grades up and plan out my future[we just graduated high school]. I'm not the most goal oriented person either, but here it is summer and all he wants to do is sit at home and play video games. I want tog et out and go to the beach, have fun, which he seems to hate. He has hung out with his family for the past month and I've maybe seen him twice. As a side note, I cannot stand his mother. She is obnoxious and puts me down in ways that are underhanded, but they still insult me none the less. I've talked to him about this, but he says I will grow to love her. I really have tried to make it work with her, but she won't even let us be unsupervised. which makes things extremely difficult when it comes to just hanging out. I mean we can go to the movies alone, but we're to phone them as soon as we decide to leave the theater. We have to sneek over to my house just to cuddle, because whenever I go to his house he can't even close his door so we can cuddle. :/ He doesn't plan on moving out anytime soon, whereas I am moving out with a few friends after I get my AA. We've broken up many times before and it tears me apart. I think that these breaks will motivate him, but they don't. A lot of it is his parents control, but he's an adult right? Shouldn't he draw a few lines? He does live with his parents, but they seem to rule his life. I feel like our relationship is not enough to motivate him to grow up a little. To even attempt to get a job or show some responsibilty. He babysits for $20 a weeks while his parents work, but at the end of the day, that buys only HIS essentials. I'm just contemplating whether or not its worth it to stay in it. I know we're young, but sometimes what we have is the greatest thing. Then we slump back down into arguments over his laziness or his parents. I just don't want to end up supporting him financially if we become even more serious. I'm worried if I stay, we'll end up like our parents[unhappy and seperated] and if I leave, what if he turns out to be the one for me and actually doesn get his act together? I'm so torn, because I've given him so many chances, yet I always hold out hope that it will get better. :( This may seem trivial to a lot of people, but this has left me crying many nights due to confusion. Anyone been through something similar? Any advice or input is appreciated so much. I've been confused for about a year. :X Thanks everyone. Xoxoxx <3 more

Resolved Question: Your Summer sense, and your Sun/Moon/Venus?

http://blogthings.com/whatsyoursummersensequiz/ Your Summer Sense is Sight You are very visually oriented. It's likely you're an artist - or at least a good photographer. You are good at taking in a lot of visual stimuli at once ... the more the better. Your eyes love the bustling scenes of summer. You could spend hours at a crowded beach people watching. You are equally moved by the sights of nature. You can be endlessly entertained on a quiet hike. Yea true I love going to the beach in the summer, the sight and smell gets me that feeling. Resolved Question: What can I wear with this crop top? (Pic)?

For the record, when I ordered this I was not aware that it even was a crop top. The description DID NOT say crop top, and it looked as though it was of average length in the picture. I really did not want a crop top, but I still like the shirt, and my boyfriend accidentally washed it already so I can't send it back. What looks good and modest with a crop top? As you can see I don't have a particularly flat or toned stomach so I really want to show as little of it as possible. My style is very laid back and beach oriented :) Thank you guys so much :))Here it is: http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae57/AnAndalusianDog/ughsoshort.jpg more

Resolved Question: beachfront rentals on captiva island?

My family and I really need to get away for a week. We really want a condo/house (?) for under $1000/wk. We want to leave on June 19 and come back on June 26. We really don't care too much about what the place looks like but it definitely has to be beachfront/steps from the beach. We would love to get a place in Sanibel Island, FL OR Captiva Island, FL if possible. I have been searching for weeks but I can't find anything. We will need a 1 or 2 bedroom place that can sleep 3 or 4. If anyone can find anything at all, it would be greatly helpful and appreciated! We've had a few rough months behind us and we just need to get away. Also, we have been looking at places in St. Augustine and other family-oriented places if there's any availibility. Thanks for the help! more

Resolved Question: Im planning a bachelor party in Myrtle Beach this august. I need some guidence?

Im planning a bachelor party in Myrtle Beach Aug 20-23rd. i have never been there and am wondering if anyone can give me some help as far as where to stay. We are looking for a nice place to stay, that is not in a family oriented section. We aren't looking for a place to destroy or anything, just don't want to have to worry about complaining neighbors if we get a little loud. While we're at it, any recommendations on places to eat? more

Resolved Question: Profile of a Pedophile, did Michael Jackson match any of these characteristics?

Lets start with these ones: Pedophiles can be anyone -- old or young, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, non-professional or professional, and of any race. Pedophiles Like Child-like Activities: He is often fascinated with children and child activities appearing to prefer those activities to adult oriented activities. He will often refer to children in pure or angelic terms using descriptives like innocent, heavenly, divine, pure, and other words that describe children but seem inappropriate and exaggerated. He has hobbies that are child-like such as collecting popular expensive toys, keeping reptiles or exotic pets, or building plane and car models. Many pedophiles often prefer children close to puberty who are sexually inexperienced, but curious about sex. Pedophiles Work Around Children: The pedophile will often be employed in a position that involves daily contact with children. If not employed, he will put himself in a position to do volunteer work with children, often in a supervisory capacity such as sports coaching, contact sport instruction, unsupervised tutoring or a position where he has the opportunity to spend unsupervised time with a child. The Target Child: The pedophile often seeks out shy, handicapped, and withdrawn children, or those who come from troubled homes or under privileged homes. He then showers them with attention, gifts, taunting them with trips to desirable places like amusement parks, zoo's, concerts, the beach and other such places. http://crime.about.com/od/sex/p/pedophile.htm more

Resolved Question: What are some more secluded beaches in St. Maarten?

What are some public-access beaches in St. Maarten that are more secluded than Orient Beach? We are cruising there in July and I was looking for a quieter beach, perhaps with mountains and trees instead of just one endless strip of sand. We're taking a cruise there, so we need to be able to get a cab to/from the beach. more

Voting Question: What is a unique gift for bridesmaids/groomsmen?

I could get them "Bridesmaid" flip flops, I could get them beach totes. My fiance could get his guys flasks or Zippos. But we want to do something unique. I know, I know, we should do something special and particular to them, their interests, etc., but we're just looking for general creative ideas. I know there are some good wedding-oriented minds out there, help us out! :) more

Resolved Question: Family Vacationing with a 1 year old?

We want to plan a family vacation so that our 1 year old can have some things to do. We've been to Myrtle Beach, SC and honestly we both are getting kinda tired of it. I wanted to know some places that would be suitable for a 1 year old, very family oriented and not too dramatic (meaning partying college students). We have a timeshare and will be using a week that we deposited and that's 8 days -7nights. We want to stay on the east coast and preferably in the US. We're looking to go the last week of August. What would you recommend? more

Resolved Question: 3 children, expecting 1 more, 3 dogs, me, my husband, don't want to live in a big city. Where to move?

Got this email from my aunt the other day. She's sent it to a bunch of her friends, including me. I figured, why not reach out and ask the YA Family? Hahaha. so yea, here it is.... I have a family (3 kids plus me and my husband are expecting a 4th), 3 pets (all dogs, planning on more), love spending time together in the yard (swimming, gardening, decorating), we currently live in a wonderful community in North Carolina, but we want to have our options open seeing as my husband is reaching out with his career (which pays enough to live in a nicer community, a bigger house, but prefferably not a big city). Our children's education is extremely important to us. Our eldest is 8, and we are expecting our youngest in around 7 months :) . Our family is spread all over the country, but we would like to stay along the east coast. Love to live near the beach, waterfront would be amazing! Swimming and sunsets is one of our favorite things. We visit florida every summer and stay with my grandparents for a week and our kids love running around on the beach with the labs. Very family oriented, have cousins, brothers and sisters, parents, aunts and uncles, etc visiting ALL the time. We love to grill (like I said, outside outside outside!) If you have any suggestions, we would love them! Hubby is needing to look at new job oppertunities because of this sweet, sweet economy, and we want to have a few places in mind before we need to begin the home hunt! :) more

My husband and I are going to Myrtle Beach May 1st-8th and I'd love suggestions on what to do there during this week. What are some of the best activities and restaurants that will be open this time of year. Also will it be warm enough to swim? P.S. We are in our 20's and don't have children so more adult oriented suggestions would be appreciated thank you.EDIT: Is it true that some of the places were recently burned down or is that a rumor? more

Resolved Question: Where are the best family oriented rural beach areas to live in?

I'm looking for an area to live in that offers a more family oriented rural beach area to live in. Its needs to have fun things to do for the family and have good job opportunities. Both myself and fiance work as RN's so we would need to live in an area close to a good hospital or private practices. We do not want to be in the middle of the city but would prefer to be able to take a 45 min. drive to the city. Any suggestions would be helpful. We are looking for something new and fresh! more

Resolved Question: Is Maine more rural or beach-oriented as a whole?

Would you say the state of Maine has more of a rural character (woods, farms, mountains, country, etc.) or a more beach-oriented character? Basically, would you associate its character more with "the country" like New York state or Vermont, or more of a focus on its beaches in the same way Florida is beach-oriented? (Obv. Maine isn't warm, I know) more

Resolved Question: Going on Carnival Splendor in September....?

It's bee years since I've been on a cruise, the last time I was 14, now I'm 20. I'm traveling with my boyfriend- our 1 year anniversary is the day before we leave. This was all by chance since we were originally planning to go to Universal Studios Orlando in August but then some arguments on the fact that it was too expensive ($2,500+) led us to considering my parents vacation solution which has a lower price of about $1,000. The problem is is that my parents have already put their down payment on the cruise, and my aunt and uncle - also going with - have too. My questions are as follows: - Will we all be able to sit together in the dining room if we've signed up for the same times? - What is there to watch on the TVs in the stateroom? - We have interior rooms (4D- Upper deck), if any ones been in them, are they nice? Do you feel suffocated? I don't like windows anyway since they give me the feeling of someone watching me.... but my boyfriend likes the fresh air. Maybe the air conditioning will help? - What is the estimation on say Budweiser beers, Vodka mixes (for my boyfriend), and Virgin drinks (Pina Coladas...)? - The entirety of the Sail & Sign card confuses me, if we put all the money on his Checking Account/Debit card would we both be able to access that money on our own? - About How much is a spa excursion on a port day? - About how much is a coke card? I'm worried that there won't be enough for us to do since everyone has been saying that the longer excursions (we're going on a 7 day trip) are more family oriented, that's dandy except for the fact that it's the two of us; 20 and 25, then my parents and aunt and uncle who are all in their lat 50s- early/mid 60s.... so really if anything we might eat together or my mom, aunt, and I might gamble together (I don't like gambling though) or the guys might get together and have a drink (though my dad and uncle LOVE sports and my boyfriend doesn't). And with the age difference between my boyfriend and I, I don't want to hold him back from doing things that I might not be able to like drink... he's really a social drinker. I don't know; is there anything to do besides drinking and gambling and just hanging out and eating? Details: What Ship: Carnival Splendor When: Sept 19 - 26, 2010 Where: LA (Long Beach) If any one wants to give me some tips as to what to bring, how to save money on things, and any other tips that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :) more
