Resolved Question: Should citizens and politicians have gotten tough on Wall Street right from the get go?

When was the right time to get tough and institute regulations? Right when the crash was beginning? Now? Later? I ask this because certain firms on Wall Street had absolutely great financial years last year. They reaped record profits and doled out billions in bonuses because they were given a no strings attached loan from government the year before. And the money didn't trickle down. Firms absolutely did not give badly needed loans for small business. They took the money and ran. I would imagine a few CEO's here in Florida got a few more homes and yachts this year. I can just look out my car window and see the extreme wealth here in Palm Beach. These executives are not hurting even as the unemployment in this particular county is around 15%. So when was the right time to get tough on Wall Street?Good answer, Sir Studley. more

Resolved Question: What should i do about a reckless driving citation ticket in West Palm Beach County, Florida?

I was on my way home from work at 10PM, driving around 70mph in a 45mph zone and using my signals but I didn't notice a cop and passed by him. On the next traffic light the cop turned on his lights and came to my car, took my license and then told me to step out for an alcohol test. In the end he gave me a ticket for reckless driving and told me to appear in court. He did not get my speed on radar either.I never admitted my speeding to the cop and I mean that he has no proof that I was going that fast so can I fight it in court?Well, I believe he did not get my actual speed because it did not say so on the ticket, not sure about the dash camera. For some of the other people: please don't leave answers if your not trying helping out, that's just a waste of yours and my time. Thank you to those that are trying to help out I really appreciate it. more

Resolved Question: Should South Florida be the 51st state and how will this affect us politically?

Apparently, local South Florida officials are upset over the treatment received by the state government and are looking to split the state in two. The state will be divided between north and south, with the dividing line being drawn along the Palm Beach county line. The last time secession succeeded in Florida was in 1925, when Gilchrist County broke from Alachua County over road-spending and cow-fencing laws. It is time for other municipalities in Miami Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties to follow Margate and North Lauderdale’s lead in creating the 51st State of these United States. more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my Senator, the "honorable" Bill Nelson of Florida?

Like Mary Landrieu and Ben Nelson, he too negotiated a special deal for the citizens of Florida (well, at least for citizens in 3 counties). He was able to spare the elderly in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami Dade counties from the Medicare Advantage cuts and increased taxes but the heck with the other counties, in fact the other counties get to subsidize the rich old retirees in those special counties so the rest of the state's elderly will pay MORE. Why did he do this? Those 3 counties are heavy democrats. What do you think of that gem of a Senator? America...haven't we had enough of these games? They ruin our lives and we reward them with a golden parachute when they retire? more

Voting Question: what would be a good rent to own offer i as a tenant can make to my landlord?

i just began renting a villa 1/2 mile from the ocean in south florida (northern palm beach county) for $1625. it is also for sale with a 60 day move out clause. it's been listed for a few months at $347K. The owner purchased in 2005 for $425K. i like it and would like to buy but can't afford to. i own 2 properties with tenants that are worth less than i owe because of the market. i have no down payment. if i had a down payment and could get the price down, i could then afford it. people are starting to look at the property and it's priced to sell (i think). 3/2 1692 sq ft, pool. i'd like to approach the owner with some kind of rent to own offer. i'd like to keep renting for a couple years while i save the down payment. i'm thinking he can save money by selling directly to me and not paying a realtor commission. i want to make the offer right the first time so it is a win win for both of us. any advice/suggestion? more

Voting Question: What is the best way to sell clothes? On-line, Consignment, etc?

So I am a self professed clothes horse and I recently lost 2 dress sizes. On top of it all, I also recently moved and down-sized and need to down-size my belongings as well. I have a lot of really nice clothes that are literally either brand new or in very good condition. Most of them are ladies size 8 (some 10s). The brands are mostly Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy, and The Limited and they range from casual weekend stuff to nice work stuff. I am certainly going to take more used items or Target brand type stuff to Goodwill, but some of this stuff is too nice for that. I've just moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and would love to know if anyone knows a great consignment shop or someone who sells great clothes online that I could take these items to for a percentage of the sales. There is a good deal of it - think 2 full rolling clothing racks full. I'd be willing to take it anywhere in Palm Beach County. Let me know what you know!!! more

Resolved Question: Are those at DMV who have been issuing fake drivers licenses to illegals jeopardizing national security?

Police say that at least seven employees at the state license bureau in Delray Beach have been taking bribes to issue drivers licenses to illegal aliens. The scam allegedly put drivers licenses in the hands more than 1,500 illegal aliens. On Thursday, police in Palm Beach arrested Willy Adam, 52, and charged him with five counts of unlawful compensation to reward official behavior, and two counts of conspiracy, both felonies. At his arraignment, Palm Beach County Assistant State Attorney Alan Johnson, told Judge Ted S. Booras that Adam is not a U.S. citizen and presents a flight risk. He is currently in the West Palm Beach county Jail on $145,000 bail. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Adam in September, along with six others accused of facilitating the scam by issuing bribes, making phony immigration documents, and escorting the illegal aliens to the DMV employees in question. So far, police have arrested seven license bureau examiners, who are accused of issuing licenses to the illegal aliens without administering either a driving or written test. The license examiners allegedly received between $1,200 to $2,500 per license, prosecutors believe that those involved made several millions of dollars in the illegal operation. Three of the conspirators remain at large. Last week, in Boynton Beach, a 10-year-old girl was hit and killed by an illegal alien driving on the wrong side of the road. http://www.examiner.com/x-5919-Norfolk-Crime-Examiner~y2009m12d11-Police-say-Florida-DMV-has-been-issuing-fake-drivers-licenses-to-illegal-aliens more

Resolved Question: Chances of getting into Duke, Georgetown, Brown, and similar schools?

I'm a junior in the IB program right now with a 3.87 GPA unweighted and 5.4 weighted. I'm in all AP and IB classes this year, and took two AP's last year (and scored 4s on both). My ACT score is a 31 and my SAT score is 2170 (though I'm planning to take them both again). I volunteer A LOT, and I currently have over 500 hours. I've received the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Congressional Medal Awards. I'm going on a service trip to Honduras this spring break with a local optometrist to open a school for the blind in the rural mountains. This summer, I also volunteered with an ophthalmologist for approximately 50 hours. I volunteer at the local hospital every week for two hours. I started a HOSA (Healthcare Occupations Students of America) club at my high school. I want to become an ophthalmologist someday!! =) I'm on the varsity swim team and have been for 2 years. I'm also a black belt in tae kwon do and have been doing that for 7 years. I have been playing the flute in the Palm Beach County Youth Orchestra for 5 years. I also scuba dive with my family (we live in Florida). Well, that's it! Let me know if I should add something. If not, please let me know what you think my chances are of getting into these sorts of schools (Duke is my #1). Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Which one is the bigger threat, the DMV scandal or the ACORN scandal?

As scams go, the Delray Beach driver license fraud was about as sloppy and unsophisticated as the ACORN employees caught on tape behaving badly. But, unlike the alleged wrongdoing by ACORN’s workers, the actions of motor vehicle employees - supplying Florida licenses to illegal immigrants - put the community at risk. Seven examiners at the Delray Beach license office have been arrested for allegedly taking more than $2 million in bribes for giving driver licenses to at least 1,500 illegal immigrants who supplied fake immigration papers and usually didn’t take the driving test. Also arrested were six people for conspiring with the examiners and recruiting the immigrants. “You have people who are not to have those documents being able to carry them around and use them in our community,” said State Attorney Michael McAuliffe. “It fraudulently conveys legitimacy or legality of presence here so you have much more freedom of movement and scope of activity.” Such movement and activity includes the ability to drive without fear of arrest and deportation if stopped by a police officer - important if you’re trafficking in drugs. It also means the ability to obtain a passport - as one illegal immigrant did - that gives you the freedom to enter and leave the country. That’s important to a potential terrorist. Mohamed Atta, who practiced flying in Palm Beach County, and other 9/11 hijackers used driver licenses to avoid difficult questions and buy airplane tickets. In the ACORN scandal, James O’Keefe posed as a pimp and covertly filmed ACORN officials discussing how he and Hannah Giles, pretending to be a prostitute, could set up a brothel with underage girls from El Salvador while dodging taxes. After the movie aired on Andrew Breitbart’s website, Congress cut off ACORN’s funding. ACORN is gulity of sloppy recruitment, training and management of its employees. State employees at the Delray Beach driver license office could have put us in danger. Which one is the bigger threat, the DMV scandal or the ACORN scandal? more

Resolved Question: What is your position on this illegals they want law to pass that makes it easier for them to enter, pay for?

What is your position on this illegals they want law to pass that makes it easier for them to enter, pay for college ?As a 3.5 student at South Technical Academy in Boynton Beach, he excelled in computer networking. He was a member of the student government and a prime candidate for a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. But that couldn't get him into college. Although he has been in the United States since he was 2, he is undocumented. He couldn't accept the scholarship, and without financial aid he is trying hard to stay in college and not scuttle his plans to be a veterinarian. "The only school I can go to is a community college, and I have only been able to take two classes a year," said Frank, 21, whose parents came here from Colombia. "I can't get scholarships, and I have to pay out of state [tuition]. It gets very expensive." On Wednesday, Frank and about 150 other students, faculty and supporters gathered in the TC Courtyard on Palm Beach Community College's Lake Worth campus for a rally endorsing the Dream Act, a bill that would allow undocumented students to get financial aid to pay for college. They started a petition seeking at least 300 supporters. Many of the students at the rally were undocumented immigrants and identified themselves only by their first names. Their plight has resonated nationwide. Each year, at least 65,000 undocumented students graduate from high school. In Washington, D.C., the bill to smooth the path to college is winding its way through the Senate with Democratic and Republican support. Supporters say although the U.S. Supreme Court has guaranteed those students the right to a free public education through the 12th grade, once they doff their caps and gowns, national policies stymie their pursuit of higher education. Without Social Security numbers they can't get jobs, or even driver's licenses, forcing them to the fringes of society. Connie Berry, a guidance counselor/specialist in the multicultural education department for Palm Beach County schools, said the country gives mixed messages. "We tell them ... 'If you study and if you do well, you'll graduate from high school and you'd go to college,' " she told the rally, which took the form of a mock graduation ceremony, replete with students clad in brightly colored caps and gowns. "What a heartbreaking thing not to tell the truth." Current federal restrictions force state colleges and universities to charge students who don't have legal immigration status higher, out-of-state tuition rates. That puts college out of reach for most of them. For example, students at Palm Beach Community College must pay $299.36 per credit hour compared with $82.50 for in-state students, according to the PBCC website. The Dream Act would lift those restrictions. It also would let such students conditionally remain in this country if they have grown up here, graduated from high school and have shown good moral character. But Bob Dane, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which opposes the Dream Act, said the supporters are pushing an amnesty plan disguised as an educational initiative. "This thing has been kicked around in one form or another since 2001 and it is really another way to piecemeal amnesty," Dane said. "Were giving away higher educations to illegal aliens at the expense of U.S. citizens." Ruth Rodriguez, 18, and her siblings came to the United States with their parents, who are from the Dominican Republic, in early childhood. They grew up in America and made their lives here, but their futures are filled with uncertainty. An aspiring lawyer, Rodriguez took three years of JROTC classes in high school, qualified for Bright Futures and prepared herself for college. Those dreams were dashed at graduation. "It's discouraging because I really worked hard in school," said Rodriguez, who graduated from Coconut Creek High School. "I graduated top 15 percentage of my class, I became the battalion commander in JROTC and I tried my hardest in school. I did everything I was supposed to do. It's something that's totally out of my control." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/sfl-dream-act-day-p092309,0,7944997.story more

Voting Question: Being friends with an ex?

Ok, here is an awkward story. When i was 18, i dated a 15 year old named Tyler. He lived in the town over from where I was going to school, the same school i attended previously. We met at the homecoming dance, and it was actually my "fag hag" best friend that hooked us up. We danced together, and hit it off pretty well. But after that, I sorta forgot about him, thinking that I probably wouldnt see him again too often. Well, he was really interested in me apparently, and made special effort to get in touch with me. We started talking over the phone, and within the week, we were basically a couple. The only problem was that I never got over to my old stomping grounds to see him. I was attending my senior year of high school in Cook county, and he was just starting his freshman year in Berrien. I fell pretty hard for him. We had lots in common and enjoyed talking to each other into the late hours of the night, and the next morning we were talking or texting again. This carried on for several months, and it actually became frustrating that we could never see each other. A few months later I moved down to West Palm Beach florida with my grandmother. I was fed up with school, being that I failed the same math class twice, and it was all i needed to graduate (they stuck me in concepts of problem solving and concepts of algebra in the same semester, which overloaded my math-illiterate mind) So i packed up to take some time off from school and get my thoughts together for what i wanted to do with my life, and to enjoy some fun and sun for a while. I stayed there for 2 years, and me and Tyler broke up (officially). We maintained some contact online and often got in webcam chats, and although things stayed flirty and friendly, we eventually stopped talking because of the distance. Fast forward another year and a half, and I'm almost 22, and hes about to turn 18. In some strange twist of fate, I moved into a place that is practically right acrossed the road from his house! And i didnt even know it until i recognized his car and driveway from some pics i had of him from the previous 2 years. I contacted him on myspace, and sadly, things were a bit awkward. He has a boyfriend around his age now, and they're deeply in love and engaged. Fine with me, because our time together is in the past (even though it never really happened) We talked a bit on myspace from time to time about random stuff, and then one day, him, his boyfriend, and his gal friend show up at my door wanting to talk to me. I go outside and hang out for a bit. Him and his boyfriend stay quiet for the most part, but they seemed friendly enough to me. His gal friend did most of the talking. I think they were trying to get a feel for how i am in real life, which kinda felt a bit cheap. I want to be friends with him because in the past we got along great. I dont have many gay friends, and he lives right within my vicinity. I'd like to spend some time hanging out with him and his boyfriend, just to pass the time and have someone to talk to once in a while. (we live in the country where there is very little to do) After that visit, we stopped talking for around 2 months. I sent him an email on myspace the other day asking if he would like to get together some time just to hang out. Unfortunately he totally ignored me. Now my question is this: Why would he give me the cold shoulder like this? I dont think i've done anything to wrong him, and since I'm seeking nothing more than friendship, i don't understand why i'd be ignored like this. I hope someone can give me some advice on what to do, or what I'm doing wrong, because I'm totally oblivious. Can someone help fill in the gaps? I just want to be his friend.Yes, i expect anyone who wants to give a thorough, sincere and honest answer to read all of that. hahahahahahahaIn a strange twist of fate, his boyfriend, who previously did not have a myspace, has just added me. *Goes to investigate why...*Well i sent the guy an email explaining that i DONT want to get between their relationship. Me and tyler never really had anything together for real, other than through the phone, so i dont see what the harm would be. more

Resolved Question: Is this a good first paragraph for my story?

I'm sorry It's a little long... well not too long I walked along the main street of Lincoln, a small town in the Penobscot County. I was glad we moved from Palm Beach, Florida to the small town of Lincoln. The streets always busy, the people so preppy, and the atmosphere was so controlled. I felt like I was living in a working machine. Every building looked the same, with the exact same layout. In order for a store, office, or house to be built they had to arrange it with the city. Every building needed a required amount of palm trees and flowers, as they treasured what little foliage they could muster in the city. Whereas in Lincoln plants grew wild, there was never a shortage of natural resources. People were able to live and build freely with no requirements. It was still a beautiful little town in every season and in any weather. Lincoln looked gorgeous in the rain. The rain fell down into the different lakes, creating tiny ripples. The roads would turn wet and fill with puddles. This usually wouldn’t be a beautiful site for most but I guess you had to live in my town in order to fully appreciate its magnificence. I'm okay with criticism as long as you also give me some tips. Don't be too too mean I'm only 13. I'd love to be an author when I grow up, do I have a chance right now? I still plan to work my way up it would just be nice to know I have a good start. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Now this is the way people should respond to crime, do you agree?

With handguns and baseball bats, South Florida residents in recent days have been striking back at home invaders, beating and even killing those who violate the sanctity of their homes. Two cases occurred in Palm Beach County. Thursday night, during a struggle, a Wellington homeowner shot and wounded one of two men who broke into his home. On Sept. 5, a group of men in a Lake Worth home turned the tables on a burglar, seizing his baseball bat and using it to break his arm. And early Thursday in Miami, a man who jumped a fence and entered a home's yard ended up dead after a confrontation with the father and son who lived there. His manner of death has not been released by police, who still are investigating. Such instances are hardly a trend, experts say, but rather a fluke of circumstances. And they probably don't represent an increase in frustrated homeowners fighting back. "You have to look at each case individually," said George L. Kirkham, a criminologist at Florida State University. "There's a lot of tension right now in people's lives generally because of the economy. I don't know to what extent those kinds of factors may play into it." Use of deadly force against intruders is allowed under Florida law. more

I cannot afford an attorney.there also is NO property involved but two children involved which i give her plenty of support already.is there something else i should file before i file a "notice for trial"? or will the judge tell her she has to file when we go to court?? more

Resolved Question: Can I legally leave home at 17 with one month left?

I live in Palm Beach County, Florida and i'm 17. I will graduate early from high school on the 18th of December this year. I turn 18 on the 16th of January. I REALLY need to leave home because there is a lot drama, fighting, arguing, and hitting that goes on. It looks like a UFC match. I need to know if I can legally leave home even though I would still have a month until I turned 18. I have a place to live with a relative. I can't spent my winter vacation waiting for my birthday to come around, that's like going into battle with no armor and no chance of survival. more

Resolved Question: sounds like a obama plan for the entire nation dont you think?

By TIM PADGETT / MIAMI Tim Padgett / Miami – 27 mins ago There are many things public officials probably shouldn't do during a severe recession, but no one seems to have told the leaders in Florida about them. One thing, for instance, would be giving a dozen top aides hefty raises while urging a rise in property taxes, as the mayor of Miami-Dade County recently did. Or jacking up already exorbitant hurricane-insurance premiums, as Florida's government-run property insurer just did. Or sending an army of highly paid lobbyists to push for a steep hike in electricity rates, as South Florida's public utility is doing. And you wonder why the Sunshine State is experiencing its first net emigration of people since World War II. (See pictures: "Florida's Paradise Lost.") A few years ago, journalists - citing the chasm between Miami's high cost of living and its low level of income - began predicting that South Florida and its perpetual population-growth machine would soon face the unthinkable: a falling head count. Now it's official. The region - Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties - lost 27,400 residents between 2008 and 2009, while Florida as a whole lost 58,000. That's not exactly a mass exodus for a state of 18 million; but it's the first net outflow in 63 years for a state that considers itself the new California. "It's difficult for the working middle class to justify living here," Mike Jones, president of the Palm Beach County Economic Council, conceded to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "As much as they may love the sunshine, as you squeeze them out, they may find it in their best interests to move." Jones gets it, but residents are starting to question whether the rest of their leaders do. Homeowners, especially in Broward and Miami-Dade, have been falling out of their flip-flops in recent days as they open their preliminary property-tax notices to find increases of 15% or more. That's sizable in a low-income region where the median property-tax bill is already some $3,000, and it's doubly frustrating given that property values have slid by some 25% during Florida's housing bust. Residents have barely digested the recent news that their hurricane-insurance premiums, which can top $5,000 a year for most South Florida homes, will rise 10% a year for the next three years (vital, officials claim, for handling claims from the next big storm). And their public utility, Florida Power & Light (FPL), is lobbying the state for a 30% rate hike (vital, FPL execs insist, for upgrading infrastructure). "It all seems out of control to people here at the time when they can least absorb it," says Dr. Jose Valladares, president of the conservative Fair Property Tax for All in Miami-Dade. Resolved Question: What is the difference between Gifted and Advanced classes in Middle School?

Is there? In elementary school I was in gifted classes, and I thought they were just perfect for me, except Language Arts which was ridiculously easy (teacher thought all children are stupid, or at least thats how she acted). I'm in middle school I live in Palm Beach County Florida. I am in all in advanced classes, I don't mean to brag, but they are all pretty easy. Our school offers gifted classes, but before I ask any teacher anything, I want to now the difference between the two. I've heard some people say that gifted is harder others say gifted is just taught differently. Which is it? more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know of a nice wedding location in the south florida area (Broward, Miami, Palm Beach) ?

I am looking for a wedding location to have my ceremony & reception. Anywhere in Miami, Broward, or Palm Beach county would be fine. I need a place that is less than $1,000 and that can hold up to 60 guests..... When I say $1,000 or less I mean for the rental of the location itself, not the whole wedding (although that would be nice) Any suggestions ??? more

Resolved Question: How can I change my public school county system?

I go to a public school in Palm Beach ,Florida, and over the past two years the system has had so many cuts on the school, and others around the county. I only ask because I got a grade that I don't think is fair, in one of my classes, just because I couldn't copy 500 vocab words from a book in two days. We only had a classroom set, and the online book server always crashed because so many students got on it, and I just don't know what to do. I want something to change. Or does anyone have any , ANY advice? more

Voting Question: Does anyone know where in Florida I can rent a house w/ a lot of land?

My fiance & I recently moved from Boston to Fl to leave the city life behind. I live in PBG now, & it is the same old city problems. We are looking for a place to rent for (1,300 or less/ mo.) now, until we settle on a place to buy. Where in Florida, can one obtain a rental w/ good land (I really do not want to see my neighbors)- at a reasonable price. The catch is we need to be within 45 minutes of a major city (WPB, Lauderdale, or Tampa even- for job purposes). I do not want to be in Palm Beach County- but preferably close- any advise would be appreciated. more

Resolved Question: More liberal - South Florida or Southern California?

Which region is more socially and fiscally liberal? South Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach counties) Southern California (Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego counties)Just a clarification: I PERSONALLY did not group those counties. That's the generally accepted geographical definition of the two regions (not all of SoCal, but the largest and most influential counties.) more

Resolved Question: Can anyone suggest a wedding reception venue in broward county florida?

My fiance and I have 146 guests. About 100 of them are all from NJ and NY and we live in Florida. We are having the wedding on the beach, but we're having a hard time finding a reception place. We are paying for this ourselves, so needless to say, we have a minimal budget. All of the places i've found so far, charge $80/person and up. There's no way we can do that. Does anyone know of a cheap, but nice reception place in broward or palm beach county florida? We both have big families and weddings are a huge deal in both, so a lot of people will come. Please help! Also, is it okay to have an appetizer and dessert only reception for all the out of town people? or is a sit down or buffet dinner better? more
