Bahama Beaches Questions asked

Resolved Question: Going to the Bahama's in June; what do I want to stay away from?

I like the sun, the beach and sight seeing but I don't want to waste my time. What area or excursion should I stay away from or what costs too much? more

Resolved Question: Has anyone ever kayaked from Palm Beach to Grand Bahama?

Or Miami to Bimini, for that matter. I was thinking that if you had calm seas and a bit of west wind (fairly rare) you could make Palm Beach to West End, Grand Bahama in 24-36 hours. more

Resolved Question: Why doesn't the Coast Guard monitor boats that leave the US?

A "friend" of mine got drunk one day and started up his boat, intending to sail south from West Palm Beach, Florida down to Miami. But I guess the direction was wrong or something. Because my friend passed out for a while with the boat still going, and when he woke up, he was about two miles north of Grand Bahama island, which is due east rather than south. Why did this happen? I can understand that the Bahamians would have trouble patrolling all of their territorial waters, but why didn't the Coast Guard do some kind of checkpoint before the boat left American territorial waters? What if a fugitive or someone on bail was stowing away? Shouldn't they check that? more

Resolved Question: Bahamas Wedding, suggestions?

I want to have a more intimate wedding, like just my fiance and I, and possibly our best man/ maid of honor. I was looking at this website : http://www.weddingsinthebahamas.com/packages.html the Bird of Paradise Package along with some add ons like: -a small cake for 2-4. -a canopy arch. -have a unity sand ceremony. On a beach. for the dinner afterward (mini reception) just a nice, Bahamian like restaurant. My budget is no more than $5000-$6000 including my dress, his outfit... the wedding packages, my hair and makeup. the air fare for our friends (maybe) - this depends on how much it will cost if its just the bride and groom. air fare for us, and rooms. i was thinking just for this night, cause the package is located in Nassau, and our honeymoon location is on the Grand Bahama Island. the hotel I had in mind just for a couple nights was: Nassau Palm Hotel cause it isn't to expensive, and has jacuzzi/whirlpool in the room. should I do this, or do you have any other suggestions to save me money? more

Resolved Question: What should I take to my trip to Florida, Disney world, the beach, and a cruise to the Bahama's?

PLAN: I live in DC, and I'm going for a one week vacation from the 19th to the 26th. First, were going to Florida (boring airplane ride *snore*) and of course, the first place we're hitting is Disney World, then after 3 days there, we're going to visit the beach for a day, then, for going on a cruise to the Bahama's. PROBLEM: I ALWAYS forget stuff when i go on trip (toothbrush, comb, Sunblock, you name it) Of course, everything else is ready (Airplane, Hotel, tickets for Disney World, Cruise [food is served 3 times a day while in the cruise] passport everything) Now, can anyone give me ideas on what to take? A list maybe? How many outfits should I take? (I'm 17, and I'm going with my 25 year old sister) So far I'm thinking I should take: -$500 to spend on whatever I want -7 dresses (I LOVE dresses) -PJ's -Toothbrush -Comb -Toothpaste -Makeup -Tanning lotion -Towel -LOTS of hair ties (I have long hair, and ALWAYS lose at least 3 of them) -Camera -7 changes in underwear -Bathing suit Okay, that's all I've got. Anything I'm forgetting? Any more ideas? By the way, what should I do with those boring ours on that plane? Never been to Disney World (or Florida, just to El Salvador) any place you recommend hitting while we're there? I've never been on a ship before, is it cold? Am going to get nausea's? >< Should I take snacks on the plane? Should I take accessories? Think I'm going to see any cute guys over there? I don't want to be all dressy dressy if it's only going to be a bunch of old geezers *yuck* And last but not least, should I take more than $500 for my spending needs? What would you recommend? more

Resolved Question: What to do for my 18th birthday in Miami, FL?

I'm turning 18 tomorrow and I wanted to do something different. You know, something to make me feel "older". So far all I have planned is dinner at Bahama Breeze with the family around 5 PM. I wanted to maybe go clubbing but I haven't gotten much luck while searching for good nightclubs that are 18 and up. Well obviously there are some because its Miami! But all I keep seeing is negative reviews. I wanted to do something with friends maybe earlier in the day but with just a few close friends. We are also, low on cash :( I'm also a bit tired of the beach , but if that's the only thing I guess it's alright. more

Resolved Question: How does Kenya compare with other holiday destinations?

I am going to Kenya in November on a safari to the Masai Mara, then after that going to Mombasa for a few days by the beach to relax. Just wondering, as it's an expensive holiday, how it would compare to going to countries such as Bahama's, Jamacia, Mexico, Maldives, Seychells etc? Or are those countries a higher class of a holiday destination? Should Kenya as a holiday destination be compared with the likes of Italy, Egypt? I hope I enjoy myself as I love nature and wildlife itself. more

Earlier I asked a similar question, but people kept on giving me answer like sex on the beach, screw driver, extra. With that being said, what is your favorite bottle—not mixed drink. Resolved Question: Bahama's hotel recommendations?

I'm planning a trip to Bahama's and since I've never been, thought I'd get the advice of my trusty fellow-yahoo-answer-ites. :) I was thinking Nassau/Paradise Island because I can get a direct flight there from where I live. It's just two of us and we aren't into going to noisy nightclubs or being really social. We just want to get away from the city life for a few days and be somewhere quiet. Are there any hotels you can recommend that are peaceful and relaxing? One on the beach is a must and a pool is a big plus. We just want to relax, read, sit on the beach, walk around, etc. Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Colder than average Bahama cruise weather.?

We are first timers for cruises. We are leaving next week for a 3 night Bahama cruise. I have been reading review after review. My girlfriend and I are big beach lovers and looking forward to Norwegians private island (Great stirrip cay). After checking the forecast for the Bahamas and seeing it will be only about 70 degrees which I've seen is lower than normal with north winds predicted at 13-17 mph, also, being beach people with jetski's and having spent many weekends bummed out at home because of the weather and winds. We are now getting a tad worried there might be too big of waves for the tender boat to get people off the boat to the island and it turns into a at sea day. I'm not sure if this will happen but it is a concern now, seeeing the forecast and reading one review where that happened. Has this ever happened to anyone else. We've never sailed the ocean and are curious just how rough it gets and we would really hate to miss out on the private island beach day we were planning for. I'd really like someone to respond with saying you'll have nothing to worry about. But, I know too well how that goes. more

Resolved Question: Is this FUNNY? Just give me a STAR if you liked it?

A biker was riding along a South California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, 'Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.' The biker pulled over and said, 'Build a bridge from South Carolina to Bahama so I can ride over anytime I want.' The Lord said, 'Your request is materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the Atlantic! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for Me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.' The biker thought about it for a long time, finally he said 'Lord, I wish that I and all men could understand their wives. I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy.' The Lord replied, 'You want two lanes or four on that bridge? more

Resolved Question: Silk shirts for groomsmen for summer beach wedding?

I'm having a summer beach wedding in FL & so far we have found these perfect linen Nautica pants for the groomsmen to wear. I pictured this paired with off-white long sleeve linen shirts, with the sleeves rolled up. My mother-in-law is pushing me to choose these Tommy Bahama 100% silk white & cream short sleeve shirts (basically because she has a "hookup" that can get them for cheap, & she's overbearing) So I want to know 1. Is 100% silk good for a summer beach wedding? Does it breathe, will sweat stains show up more, etc? 2. In your opinion, do you prefer rolled up long sleeve shirts or short sleeve shirts on guys in a wedding? Thanks! more

Take old historic Key west house and add a little Caribbean beach villa , bahama beach house and mix it with some Palm Beach architecture along with a Tahiti,Bali, Hawaii tropical hut. as for the interior goes, I would take the style of Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Bahama and mix it all together. Resolved Question: Could someone please check my essay for grammatical errors and punctuation ?

Global warming threatens the whole world. Though it has had little noticeable impact on the world so far, its potential impact could be disastrous which is why global warming has become an issue ever present in the media and for governments. One of the biggest problems facing the Bahamas today is global warming. Future predictions do not look good for the Bahamas. There are many causes, such as the greenhouse effect through the burning of fossil fuels, the rise in sea level which will not be good for the Bahamas and, pollution which poses many problems for this country. You have heard that “for every cause, there is an effect”. Agricultural would be greatly impacted by global warming, Climate change could have a severe effect on the Bahamas; the economic consequences could lead to instability for this country. There are many solutions. First stop making CO2 and switch from oil, coal and gas to renewable energy, secondly the Bahamas have plenty of sunshine; they can create a solar farm, thirdly use less energy and recycle more product. The more Bahamians recycle the less they contribute to the greenhouse effect. There are many causes of the greenhouse effect. The most common greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide. They are released by the burning of fossil fuels which are a major leading cause of concern for the Bahamas. These emissions can be seen when a car is started on a cold early morning. The muffler will emit visible vapor. The more cars run idle for a long period of time, the more carbon dioxide is emitted into the air. It can be seen in the form of smoke in heavy populated cities like New Providence and Grand Bahama. Many things contribute to global warming such as factories (e.g. BORCO in Grand Bahama), transportation, waste products and agriculture. The greenhouse effect is crucial to our being. Without the greenhouse effect, the earth would not be warm enough for the human race to live. If the Bahamas continues to contribute to the greenhouse effects by continuing to burn fossil fuel and sending more pollution in the atmosphere this can cause a great deal of health problems for its citizens of the Bahamas. First of all air pollution causes a great deal of health problems; such as, aggravated asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, lung and heart diseases, and respiratory allergies. Wanting clean air is an important factor to consider because air that is polluted can result in s death. However, our health is not the only thing to be threatened, our environment is threatened too. Indeed, air pollution causes some disorders on the environment, meaning the increase in sea temperatures and the destruction of coral reefs. The Bahamas has another source of pollution cruise ships. They produce an enormous amount of unwanted gases and fumes. This makes it a major contributor of pollution. For instance, while in port at Nassau harbour or at other islands, cruise ship that sails to the Bahamas spends one day in New Providence or a small amount of time at some other island. Cruise liners use about three hundred thousand tons of fuel on a daily basis and a considerable amount while docked. If there are three ships in Bahamian waters that are tied up at the Prince Gorge dock for example, whatever they use can lead up to three hundred thousand tons of fuel per year. {English 119 booklet Par.7 pg 26} “This generates about on million tonnes of greenhouse gases” which can contribute to the rise in see level Most of our islands are in five feet or more above sea level. The Bahamas being a low-lying area as it is, fresh water ponds can be severely affected as a result. There are many well fields in some of the islands, which can become contaminated due to the rise in sea levels. This spells disaster for those islands in which water is pumped from places like Andros and Grand Bahama. {Climate Change in the Caribbean by Larry Smith} states “Indications are that some fresh water marshes in the Bahamas have already become brackish, which may be attributed to rising sea levels. It is known that well fields on Andros and Grand Bahama have been badly affected by storm surges in the past five years”. Bahamapundit.com. Scientists are ardently trying to find ways to counteract the effects that the rising waters are causing, which includes island and beach erosion. Evidence of the public’s ignorance of the inevitable impact of the rising sea levels is shown in the millions of people that are flocking to the coast. The Bahamas is mainly a low-lying country; a rising sea levels will negatively affect coastal areas; eroding beaches, mangroves, coral reefs and tourism; and eventually cause some islands to disperse because of the costal erosion. The Bahamas is basically a low- lying country; the highest point being two hundred and six feet above sea level; thus, this make the Bahamas vulnerable to the effect of climate change and higher temperature increase flooding due to heavier rains. This can result in mal more

Resolved Question: Is it rude to have a destination wedding?

My fiance and I really want a beach at sunset/dusk wedding. We've both always wanted that and it just suits our personalities. Though he doesn't mind eloping and marrying on a beach just the two of us- I really want at least our closest family/friends there! So, I am looking into Florida (we're in Tennessee, so it's not the other side of the country or anything) Florida would be fairly reasonable compared to the places he wanted to go- Fiji, Hawaii or the Bahama's. However, a close family member has stated that it's a lot to expect people to travel and put up the expense of coming to our destination wedding. I'm perplexed- I thought our closest people would love the idea, and we're telling everyone a year and a half in advance to cushion any financial issue. I don't expect anyone to put themselves out, if they cannot make it- I would understand! I just want to include them. Is it rude to have a destination wedding??? more

Resolved Question: Could some one help me with this essay I'm desperate.I am not finished?

Discuss the cause and effects of global warming on the Bahamas then offer viable solutions Global warming, what does it mean? Global warming is often referred to as "the greenhouse effect". Both imply the absorption of energy radiated from earth's surface by carbon dioxide and other gasses in the atmosphere. Global warming threatens the whole world. Without the greenhouse effect, the earth would not be warm enough for the human race to live. But if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make the earth warmer than usual. Even a little extra warming may cause problems for humans, plants, and animals to carry on everyday life. Another cause for global warming is the rise in see level; most of our islands is in 5ft of mean sea level. The Bahamas being a low-line area; it is likely that the fresh water ponds will be severally affect in some islands of the Bahamas. Evidence of the public’s ignorance of the inevitable impact of Sea Level Rising is shown in the millions of people that are flocking to the coast. Rising sea levels, winds, and currents are constantly eroding beaches, and in fact whole islands are disappearing. First, air pollution causes a great deal of health problems. Wanting clean air is a good reason because air that is polluted can damage human health. Indeed, the air pollution causes numerous diseases and increase health problems like the asthma or breathing problems; thus this is a real concern! Some persons cannot live in a big city because of the high rate of air pollution in it. However, our health is not the only to be threatened, our environment is threatened too. Indeed, the air pollution causes some disorders on the environment. Bahamians have another source of pollution; Cruise ships in the Bahamas produce enormous quantities of unwanted gases and fumes. This makes it a major contributor of pollution in the islands. For instance, a cruise ship that calls upon the Bahamas spent one day in Nassau harbour or a few days at other developed islands. “Most cruise ship uses about 300 tonnes of fuel per day at sea, and significant amounts while in harbour”. {English 119 booklet Paragraph. 7} The Bahamas is a very low- line country; the highest point being 206 ft above sea level; thus, this make this makes the Bahamas vulnerable to the effect of climate change and higher temperatures and even an increase flooding due to heavier rains; this will result in more malaria, dengue and other tropical diseases. As former Best Commission advisor John Hammerton said recently, Given that most of the Bahamas is a low-line coastal zone subject to storm surge and sea level rise, we should be anticipating the possible impacts of climate change and developing strategies to protect our habitats and landscapes based on the predications.” Climate change could also have a serve effect on natural disasters. Resolved Question: could someone read my essay for me and give your opinion I am not finish yet.?

Discuss the cause and effects of global warming on the Bahamas then offer viable solutions Global warming, what does it mean? Global warming is often referred to as "the greenhouse effect". Both imply the absorption of energy radiated from earth's surface by carbon dioxide and other gasses in the atmosphere. Global warming threatens the whole world. Though it has had little noticeable impact on the world so far, its potential impact could be disastrous which is why global warming has become an issue ever present in the media and for governments. There are many causes such as greenhouse effect through the burning of fossil fuels, the rise in sea level, and pollution. You have heard that for every cause, there is an effect; well, the effects for us are. Agricultural practices, climate change, and the economic consequences and the solutions are renewable energy the Bahamas need to announce target for reduction for emission There are many causes of the greenhouse effect. The most common greenhouse gas is Carbon dioxide; Carbon dioxide and its associate greenhouse gases. The Bahamas depend solely they are released by the burning of fossil fuels; which is a major leading cause of concern for the Bahamas. These emissions can be seen when you start your car on a cold early morning and the muffler smokes. Also, the more cars sit for a long period of time on the road the more CO2 is admitted into the air. It can be seen in the form of smoke in the heavily populated cities like New Providence and Grand Bahama. Many things contribute to global warming. Such things are industries, transportation, electricity used, waste produced, and agriculture. The greenhouse is very vital to our being. There are many well fields in some of the islands of the Bahamas, which will become contaminated due to the rise in sea level; this spells disaster for those islands whose water is pumped from well fields meanly Andros and Grand Bahama. Paragraph 6 of Climate Change in the Caribbean by Larry smith states that, “Indications are that some fresh water marshes in the Bahamas have already become brackish, which may be attributed to rising sea levels. And it is known that well fields on Andros and Grand Bahama have been badly affected by storm surge in the past five years. Scientist are fervently trying to find ways to counter act the effects that the rising waters are causing, which includes island and beach erosion. Resolved Question: Aftershave that smells like Hawaiian Tropic or coconut oil?

I found this cologne by Tommy Bahama called "South Seas" that has a Hawaiian Tropic type smell to it, but they don't sell it as an aftershave. I really don't like wearing cologne, but I do wear aftershave and would love to find some that has the "beach" kind of smell to it. Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Name this Architectural style Please!?

Have you ever been into a Tommy Bahama store? How about a Hollister store? I like the way both of these stores decorate the interior. Tommy Bahama has more of a warm feel with a lot of decorative wood trim and light green colors, i call that style "old world florida". Hollister is more dark, dim lighting, painted wood flooring, small octagon tile flooring and dark stained wood shutters all around the inside. Can anyone tell me exactally what style of design or architecture this is? Alot of people tell me things like "beach", "florida", "Key West", "So-Cal", but I can never find anything on those styles that look like what i want. Please Help. Im building a house and i have just sat down with an architect and I was wanting to combine both of these styles and have my architect come up with something but I dont know how to describe it to him, niether can i find any referance material for him to look at.
