Resolved Question: Best state for a student to live in?!?? Input is greatly appreciated!?
Ok, me and my best friend live in Green Bay, Wisconsin right now. Going to school. Granted its a very nice place to live, very safe here we just want to get out its boring, its more a family oriented town rather than a student area. Our goal is to be gone by next year. We need YOUR help with first off picking a state, once we have our state picked we'll ask to which areas to live in. We would prefer a place that is safe, stuff to do (beach, a clean bar atmosphere, etc.) Also most importantly affordable. We also wouldn't mind a more warm place, because lets face it Wisconsin winters are nothing to brag about. Her choices are: Washington, Texas, Nevada, North Carolina, Massachusets, Missouri, Virgina, New York, California. My choices are: Virgina, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Arizona, Georiga. If you could please please please read through this and pick the best state out of MY choices and HER choices. And then pick the overall best choice. THANK YOU so much! moreVoting Question: Sweet Home Alabama explanation?
In the beginning of the movie, the two kids are on teh beach during a thunderstorm. When the lightning hits, they go back to the spot to find a sort of smoking glass or something. Can anyone explain this to me? What is it? How does it work? All help would be appreciated. Old man wearing a red ball cap--"World War II Veteran"--under it the Globe and Anchor of the U.S. Marines. One of many. Do we remember to thank them? My father's generation--now in their 80's or 90's but just kids when world events changed their lives. Old man wearing a Navy blue ball cap--"USS Alabama"--and the Navy crest below it. Proud of his battleship, now on display in Mobile. Young man then who went to the nearest recruiter when another battleship, USS Arizona, was destroyed at Pearl Harbor. Old man wearing a green ball cap--"World War II Veteran, U.S. Infantry"--and the Infantryman's badge below it. Thanks, sir. Our country called--you answered. He might have served in North Africa, or landed on Omaha Beach. Maybe Guadalcanal. Listen to him and he might tell you about it. Old man wearing a blue ball cap--"Army Air Forces. 1944." Aircrew wings pinned underneath. If he flew bombers over Europe most of his buddies died. They once were young, full of everything a young man is supposed to be full of. Some did great deeds while others just served. Do we love them and cherish them? Do we thank them? Thousands pass on each and every day. In another decade or two most will be gone. They inspired me as a boy. Some led me as a young man. They shaped our nation. Eight of our Presidents served in this war. Do we remember to thank them? Will we thank them before they are all gone? (This was our total war. I was four years old when it ended. American servicemen, along with those of many allied countries, went to war, many not knowing much about who they were fighting or why. The world they leave is not a perfect world, but it is better for their service.)What will I do? I served in uniform 31 years, as a National Guardsman, active Air Force, and Air Force Reserve. I am now retired. Approaching age 70 I thank all veterans I meet, but I reserve a special honor to those old guys and a few gals who went off to war almost 30 years before I did. I am a Vietnam veteran and give special honors to all who served but especially to those who served in wartime.32 years ago, when I was stationed on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, there was a band made up entirely of World War I veterans. They played in every parade, but age had weakened them to the point they could no longer march in formation. So a special trailer was built for them allowing them to travel in formation, pulled by a tractor or other vehicle. These 30 or so men are all gone now, and few if any World War I veterans are still left--those that are would be well past 100 years old. Today we are seeing the demise of the World War II veteran. Thousands of them die each and every day. Eventually the number of those dying daily will decrease as fewer are left. We Vietnam veterans are aging but are healthy for the most part. We have a few decades left before we begin (in the words of the song) to "fade away." When I was a young boy there were even a handful of Civil War survivors still alive. World War II survivors were very abundant and quite youthful and vigorous then. moreResolved Question: Any Small Beach Towns?

Oil Spill: Gulf Water Sample Explodes When Chemist Tests For Toxicity (VIDEO) In this video, WKRG News 5 investigates the toxicity levels of local public beaches that have been populated with people swimming and children playing in the water in Alabama. Their search ends with some explosive results. WKRG teams up with Bob Naman, an analytical chemist with almost 30 years in the field. Naman tested WKRG's various samples for petroleum, and said he expected to find no more than 5 parts per million (ppm). Instead, Naman finds results that far exceed his expectations: 16 ppm from waters at Katrina Key, and 29 ppm at Orange Beach. The most shocking results came from a sample of water collected near a boom at Dauphin Island Marina. When Naman combined the sample with an organic solvent that separates the oil from the water, which he did for all the other samples as well, it exploded in his lab, breaking the container and destroying the sample in the process. Naman thinks the reaction was caused by the presence of methane gas or Corexit, the dispersant that BP has been using in the Gulf. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/19/oil-spill-gulf-water-samp_n_651331.html Can the US just refine the Gulf of Mexico and forget about importing all that oil from places where they dress funny, have brown skins and aren't good Christians? moreResolved Question: I need songs suggetions for a CD i am making.?

Ok, I would probably need a realtor's opinion more on this one, or expertise rather. In a nutshell, I live 25 minutes from Gulf Shores Beach.....or the Alabama Coast. Which means all land value = plummeted. It would seem like a huge buyers market and it is really, but the citizens here have no jobs to buy these dirt cheap houses. Now comes my issue. My family owns a 14 acre plot of land with four houses situated on it. One of them being my late grandmother's which we have been trying to sell for a bit of time now. Given it's been some time on the market simply because the economy has been absolute crap for as long as I can remember no one could afford the property but now and especially now with the help of a coastline full of black oil that comes in waves and waves, would/could BP be held accountable for at least the devaluation that is destined to come with next years appraisal? It doesn't take a genius to know that the value a year ago would have been somewhat alright, although we've dropped the price by at least 20k so far, and to boot, it comes with a forth of the entire acreage. But now, with this oil bull**** there is no way in ____ that anyone is going to even consider buying this property, pristine land in a semi rural area about to have a road paved connected the town to a supposed living community in the future, which I'm sure is also canned now. So, even though this turned into a novel of sorts, I would never expect that BP would have to purchase the house or property but I do think that the extreme and sudden devaluation which will linger for years to come over our as well as my grandmother's house is a direct result from this spill. Now we are not looking for anything for our own property's although if we have a foothold we may, but the family is footing the bill for the other house that is basically just slowly draining everyone's pockets, more so now than ever and with this spill there 100% is no light near the end of any metaphorical tunnel lest a miracle presents itself. In anyone's opinion: Does BP have any financial accountability in the aforementioned situation in any way, shape, or form? Thanks for any and all advice! moreResolved Question: BP Oil Spill Devaluation Inquiries.?

By BRIAN SKOLOFF, Associated Press Writer Brian Skoloff, Associated Press Writer – 51 mins ago PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. – An effort to save thousands of sea turtle hatchlings from dying in the oily Gulf of Mexico will begin in the coming weeks in a desperate attempt to keep an entire generation of threatened species from vanishing. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will coordinate the plan, which calls for collecting about 70,000 turtle eggs in up to 800 nests buried in the sand across Florida Panhandle and Alabama beaches. It's never been done on such a massive scale. But doing nothing, experts say, could lead to unprecedented deaths. There are fears the turtles would be coated in oil and poisoned by crude-soaked food. "This is an extraordinary effort under extraordinary conditions, but if we can save some of the hatchlings, it will be worth it as opposed to losing all of them," said Chuck Underwood of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100630/ap_on_re_us/us_oil_spill_saving_sea_turtles Edit: "This is sad. Very sad only." Excerpt from Neytiri, from the movie Avatar. It's good that 70,000 turtle eggs will be saved. It's sad that the oil spill has created this situation."Sure America. Basically, if you live near the ocean in Florida (Gulf and Atlantic side), Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and parts of Texas, you will be forced from your home at gunpoint? when the oil washes on the beaches in larger quantities, claiming the fumes and general conditions will be dangerous? If they succeed in such an ungodly forced migration, will there be a sinister underlying agenda behind it? moreResolved Question: Is the Administration actively making things WORSE in the Gulf? WHY?
Today's headline says it all. Berm dredging stopped by Feds.....see link: http://www.wdsu.com/news/23997498/detail.html So the beaches on the coasts of Louisiana, Miss, and Alabama get oiled for ten years. Those skimmers in Huston, refused on day 3 by the Feds, are now prohibited from Operating by the Coast Guard...BECAUSE THE CREWS DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT KIND OF LIFE VESTS!....and Florida was told they can't have any booms by the Obamabots....BECAUSE THEY MIGHT BE NEEDED ELSEWHERE! CAN THERE BE ANY DOUBT???? that obama intends to make the spill WORSE! and WHY????might you well ask? No, I'm not talking about Arizona, though I might as well be. I'm talking about the oil spill. "When brown clumps of tar began to wash up on the snow-white beaches around Destin last week, the mood in this sunny beach community shifted from optimistic denial to furious worry. Local ideas about how to protect the area clashed with plans from BP, state and federal agencies. Community volunteers struggling to cut through protocol cheered a decision by Okaloosa County to defy BP and the feds. They were done waiting. They'd use their own plans. "This is ridiculous. We'll take the heat. We would do whatever it took to stop the oil," said the county commission chairman, Wayne Harris. After months of wrangling with agencies responding to the spill, Harris wasn't willing to stake the county's ecology and economy only on boom that captures or absorbs oil. The commission authorized emergency management teams to add skimmers, barges and extra boom, and an air wall they hope will push the oil away. They plan to layer prevention measures in the pass that connects the Gulf to Choctawhatchee Bay, where fresh and salt water mix and dolphins play. Harris said the plan could cost up to $6 million per month, which he hopes will be covered by money from BP. The county developed its oil plan in the days after the disaster began to unfold, but it was plagued by miscommunications, disagreements and bureaucracy once it left local hands, Harris said. Communities along the Gulf Coast have made similar complaints. Mayors grilled a BP official about the response during a press conference earlier this month. In Magnolia Springs, Alabama, locals went outside the federal plan and risked incarceration by adding boom and barges to protect Weeks Bay. In Pointe Aux Chenes, Louisiana, Native Americans pitched in to string boom near an island where many of their ancestors are buried. Harris said some of his county's efforts may work; others may not. "Doing something is better than doing nothing," he said." ""I'm sure they're cussing. I'm sure they're cussing us bad," Harris said. "If we had waited, we'd still be waiting. Why did it take us giving an ultimatum?"" http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/06/21/oil.spill.okaloosa.county/index.html?hpt=C1 moreResolved Question: Why are the beaches in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida so contaminated and polluted?
ugh! black waters! moreResolved Question: How to deer camp/ duck hunt?
My dad is being stationed to Eglin AFB in fort walton beach this summer. They have 280,000 acres of hunting land that we may use. Now heres the thing Ive always dreamed about getting a tent, my gun, some supplies and going out for a couple of days during the season and makin a deer camp. Have a fire and hunt for deer. We currently live in Texas so Im used to stalking various animals(exotics) and sittin in a stand. But I think I would want to go old school and stalk. ANYWAY, How can I do that? I want most of the gear to be old school stuff. But besides that, How do I deer camp while still being legal? On eglin they have primitive camping sites so I thought that was a bonus for me. But I dont know. Also, I have always wanted to go duck hunting. Ive shot deer, dove, rams, exotic does. But Ive never been duck hunting. So I was wandering how the heck you go do that? I dont have a boat ot dog so how do I manage? Ive also thought it would be fun to drive up to alabama and go duck hunting sometime during the season. But again, I have no idea what Im doing and where to do it. Ive heard that public lands are crowded and all so that could be an issue with me not having a boat. Also how do I go out and hunt without a dog? I would have to know the depth of the water right? Like puddle duck hunts? I want to learn how to do that stuff. PLEASE HELP! moreResolved Question: Who is responsible for getting the cleanup workers in the Gulf region the supplies they need?
This is unreal! I thought Obama said he was going to see to it that they had all the tools they needed to clean this stuff up. So...is it his responsibility or BPs responsibility to ensure supplies are well stocked so that there is no slow down in the clean up? MOBILE, Ala. – As countless tar balls washed ashore on a beach along Alabama's Gulf Coast, cleanup workers sat and watched because they didn't have the proper plastic covers to protect their shoes. Elsewhere, a crew using shovels and garden rakes worked for hours on a long stretch of sand that a machine could have cleaned in minutes. Almost two months after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, shortages of government-required protective gear and cleaning equipment are slowing work to remove the sticky mess and keep beaches and marshes along the Gulf Coast safe and oil-free.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100615/ap_on_bi_ge/us_gulf_oil_spill_supply_shortages moreResolved Question: What are your opinions on the oil spill and is it going to effect my area?

First he was going to make BP pay for the Gulf oil mess. Then he declared himself in charge. Now he's trying to find out "whose a$$ to kick" and making clear he'd fire BP's chief if only he could. Obama is talking ever tougher as the Gulf oil spill crisis drags on, the public's patience wears thin and the peril to his presidency increases. With pressure building on Obama to fix the crisis, the White House said he'll be heading back to the scene, spending next Monday and Tuesday inspecting oil damage in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. What does he think he's going to accomplish now?!?!? Stick a rake in his hand and let him clean up the beaches! This would be his only accomplishment thus far.... but no, he wants to look good when in fact, he's only digging a deeper hole for himself!!! moreResolved Question: 2 questions about tanning !!!!?
I am a pale 15 year old girl that wants a tan, one thing i dont have a swimming pool, and my sister left for summer classes, so i have nobody to take me too a pool, and all my friends that are 16 have jobs, so im stuck at my house, none of my friends have pools, not many people do in alabama, well my city atleast, and i was wondering if i just put my bathing suit on and just get a beach chair and lay out in my front lawn, my back yard has to many trees to lay out back thier, but here are my questions, if i lay out of 3 hours a day will i have a tan in 3-4 days, and also if i lay out in the front yard, will peoople think im crazy and wierd, and stupid, i have a lot of hotttttt guys that live in my nieghborhood, but they live about a 10-15 minute walk away, and my street is not that busy even though i live on the main street. oh and bonus question- how can i not make my face red, but tan, if i dont put sunscreen on it frys and if i do its pale. so what to do, i get burnt in the main areas, forhead, and nose and under eyes or cheeks, . if you can answer these two questions plus the bonus, i will give you the best answer for 10 points, but it has to be good. haha :) thanks, oh the temp here lately have been 80 something but its been raining here lately, so im not sure what it will be tomorrow if its sunny, haha i want a tan because i get my braces off thursday and there taking a picture and im getting my permit friday. haha moreResolved Question: What Are some your concerns about the OIL SPILL in the gulf of mexico?
I live in dauphin island alabama and the oil is not too far away from the shore here. I just bought a house on the beach so me and my family could enjoy the water and white sand. Now i guess you can say it was a waste of time and money. I am very frustrated with BP. But i do have one question though havent heard anyone on the news or any informative mention. What is going to happen when that big hole beneath the earths surface runs out of oil? is it going to collapse and reak more havoc opon the gulf coast, or cause more rigs to explode? Please share your thoughts and opinions? moreResolved Question: was there a riot in tuscaloosa alabama...?

They are not even sending 5% of their profits dealing with the oil spill. Now the beaches in Mississippi and Alabama are destroyed and the BP chairman is smug. Why not fine them $50 million a day and force them to pay for the clean-up. That would basically mean that they would cover expenses but not make a profit.Being from Biloxi, I am pissed to say the least. The beautiful beaches, the wild life. I am even more irate when I think of all the dead dauphins. I think it is time to cease the assets of BP and hold their management CRIMINALLY RESPONSIBLE. I think it is time for people to BOYCOTT BP! moreResolved Question: Is it a bad time to vacation in Gulf Shores, AL?
