Hey, I've been wanting to go to California for my senior grad trip, but I'm not sure where in Cali I should go. Long Beach, Los Angeles, Beverley Hills, San Diego... HELP! What's nicest? moreOpen Question: I need someone to check my movie review for a class?
We need a descriptive, interpretive and evalutive paragraphs + intro and conclusion. Here it is. “Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd”-Bertrand Russell. That quote is almost exactly how people think in the movie “The Freedom Writers”. “The Freedom Writers” is a movie produced by MTV in 2007. The movie stars Hillary Swank who has been in other movies such as “Million dollar baby” and “Big girls don’t cry”. The movie is based on a true story of a group of gang involved students in Long Beach, California, Mrs.Gruell(Hillary swank) is a new teacher and is excited to begin her teaching career but she finds her students aren’t too willing to listen to her. Now Mrs.G does her best to help these kids get their lives back and get them out of the lives they fell into. The movie “The freedom writers” was very detailed in the ways it was set up and the script. The movie was very specific like I said and by this I mean the language they used seemed to fit the time period and these types of students in the class. The class looked very similar to the real classroom, it was battered and full of beat up old desk which had swears and other items carved in to them. Another thing that was very precise was activities they created such as “Toast for Change” and other things that happened in real life. One scene I remember was when they students all went to a holocaust museum and they all were really interested and involved in the history of event . This was a really cool scene in the movie because I think it was one of the points in the movie where all the students really wanted to learn and began to like Mrs. G. The movie “The freedom writers” had lots of characters in the movie with specific backgrounds. Having said that I think several different messages can be taken from the movie. One theme that I thought was present in the movie as general was that “People can change and get out of tough situations”. I think this is a main theme because several characters showed it in the movie. For example one student was asked by an old friend a couple of times to do things for the friend that he maybe used to do but now that he’s trying and changing he’s not willing to do the same things anymore. This is just one of many themes that I think the movie does a great job of showing. This theme plays out for a lot of situations but one more situation was when one of the students ,who lives on his own, goes and finds his mother and apologizes for all the things he’s done, and that he wants to come back home, which is huge because he talks about how he hadn’t talked to his mother for years because she didn’t want to deal with him anymore. While I watched the movie “The Freedom Writers”, I was really impressed on how real they tried to make the movie look. They didn’t try to damper the themes in the movie, which I liked because it got me more into the plot and the movie itself. When I talk about how they made the movie seem more real, I’m talking about how people acted, the language they used and some of the violence. The actors in the movie were also very good actors and got me thinking of the situations they were in. Hillary Swank was a very good actor in this movie as well because she was fit for the role of being the cheery, excited, new teacher in a class with a struggling bunch of kids. Another thing I enjoyed about this movie was the music used in the movie. The music was a hip hop/rap kind of music which most of the kids would have listened to in the time this movie took place and also one of the main songs for the movie was created and produced by Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and a rapper by the name of Common who worked with Will.i.am to produce the music. The movie overall was very specific and detailed, which I liked, and it really helped me get into the plot and the story .Overall I Enjoyed this movie for most of the reasons I stated above. I think this movie may inspire some of its viewers because of the theme it presents, which I think was a main goal when producing this movie. The movie “The freedom writers” is a great movie that really gets into what the lives for the real freedom writers were. In this review I talked about a lot of things such as, how the movie was descriptive and real, what I thought some of the main messages were and finally what I thought of the film. This fill really made me think about each individual kid and what they had to go through on a daily basis. Also it really showed me how much a person can change in a short amount of time. moreOpen Question: what is the west coast like?

I travel for work and recently noticed that my head only hurts when I'm at home. I recently got back from a three-week job in California and my head started hurting within a day or so. We've all had one, but I actually love looking back and laughing about my awkward moments. The first time my husband came to California, while beginning to become serious in our relationship, we drove with my mother, father, and sister to the beach. My mom and dad are divorced. I was driving, and played "Don't Trust Me" with my iPod in the jack. My sister, husband, and I all sang along loudly, me with the slight Finnish accent I developed from living in Helsinki for a while, and my husband in his very thick Russian accent. It wasn't until the end of the song that we all realised my parents were staring away from eachother uncomfortably, and all of a sudden my mom bursted out laughing. My dad was the only one that wasn't cracking up in this scenario after my mom began laughing, making the moment a little awkward, but funny nonetheless. :)The awkward part is that the lyrics to the chorus are "Don't trust a ho, never trust a ho, won't trust a ho, cause the ho won't trust me." moreOpen Question: saw some businesses for sale southern california?

My best friend and I are wanting to go on a short vacation this summer. At first, we were thinking about going on a cruise, but we have not heard very many good things about them. Instead, we decided that we'll go see he ocean and stay at a fairly nice hotel for a few days. We are wanting to do girlie things while we are there, get manicures, facials, massages, shop, etc. I am really into photography, museums and architecture, she is kind of indifferent to most things. I like small restaurants with character and doing things that seem less touristy. My Favorite part of my last vacation was visiting a cactus farm in Yucca Valley, kinda lame, but I'm into strange things like that. We will be driving from Oklahoma and stopping for a few hours in Williams, Arizona. We are both in our early twenties; old enough to drink. We are just wanting to have a good time and enjoy ourselves in a nice hotel and take some good pictures. ANY suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. I have heard some bad things about San Diego and really don't know of any good beaches or things to do in Cali. Oh, and I'm not really too interested in going to Sea Word or anything like that. THANK YOU. moreVoting Question: What are good surrounding cities to live in near San Diego?
My friends and I are moving to California this summer. We have been looking for apartments and were wondering what are the best cities to live in that are near San Diego? We definitely want to live in a city where there is a beach. But, we need to find a place with a resonable price. Thanks so much! moreResolved Question: Isn't it fantastic that marijuana will soon be legalized in California! What do you cops think about it?
There are more than 1000 medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles (my city) alone. On Venice Beach you can walk into a doctor's office (highly visible with volunteers encouraging all who walk past to go in), get a doctor's note (anyone can get one), and go next door to the dispensary to get your weed. WHAT A SHIFT FROM BEFORE!! With this in mind it's only a matter of time before it's de facto legal. In any case, it's a wonderful thing. Finally the idiots who thought they could tell someone what to do with their own body are being shut down like a bad memory -- ESPECIALLY since it's far less harmful than alcohol, cigarettes, McDonalds, or for you cops out there, donuts. Your thoughts? moreVoting Question: Florida Spring Break Question, PLEASE HELP ASAP?
I need advice quick I’m planning a vacation for Spring Break, and I don’t know where I want to go. I want to go somewhere warm, but with a upbeat atmosphere I was thinking about Florida. I would love to go to Panama since it is spring break season but I’m afraid it wont be warm enough there. Also I am 21 and I’m taking a few of my friends and my sister and two of her friends they are 17 and 18. So I’m going to need something to entertain all age groups and Disney world is out of the question. We want to go to a pretty and fun beach with like a typical board walk and the touristy shops. So the question is where is a fun place in Florida to go that is semi affordable and has something to do for all age groups. My sister wanted to go the Miami or Fort Lauderdale but I’m afraid the clubs are 21+ and all they would do is sit up in the room. I don’t want to go into the Keys because airfare is ridiculous I wish that Myrtle beach or Hilton Head was warm this time of year. Keep in mind we don’t have to go to Florida just somewhere with a beach that has nice weather, I go to bowling green state university in Ohio so we are all looking to get out of the cold. By the way someone mentioned California or Alabama but I am not familiar with that area. Also the places you suggest, if you could please suggest a hotel you have stayed at in the past or have found would be great. Thanks :)What does anyone know about South Padre Island moreVoting Question: Horse boarding in Southern California?
Now, these are just some preliminary questions I have. I was once looking for a horse but then family money issues arose. But there is once again a possibility of me getting my first horse and there's a few things I need to research. Originally I was looking at boarding at the Huntington Beach stables in California, it's close by my house and they give good care. Sadly they are no longer in my budget range. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good places to board in Southern California. Now this doesn't have to be a large stable, I'd be willing to board in someones backyard if they're zoned for it and have room. I want to stay in the Orange County or L.A. area. Anything beyond that will be to far. I'm willing to pay for my own feed, vetting bills, and farrier. I'd also muck my own stall and all that good stuff. Basically all I need is a stable. As for my price range I can consider anything under $300 a month. Preferably around $200 a month would be ideal. Even less would be wonderful. and I've never boarded before but I'm a respectful and responsible seventeen year old with parents who will be quite involved in all my horsey business. Basically, they make the deal I just do the research. If you don't personally know of any available places I'd also love to maybe get some links to directories that may have places listed. Thank you to all those who can help. I appreciate it. :) P.S. If you have any advice for a new horse owner I'd like to hear it. I've got a trillion books on buying and owning your first horse that I've read time and time again but there's nothing like personal experience to tell you what it's really like. The closest I've ever gotten is a half-lease for about two years. But that was awhile ago, before the El Toro stables closed down for that mega park they're supposedly going to build. moreVoting Question: Need to find a beach that allows over night camping, bonfires, and alcohol in California at the Central Coast?
moreVoting Question: Some please interpret my dream, it was very different from my usual ones, I think it has a deeper meaning too?
Well, for once, it was a normal dream that actually made sense, unlike my other random ones. My family had moved from Atlanta to California. Our new house was very tiny, more like a shack. But the backyard was so beautiful. It was always sunny outside, and the grass was a lush green and it was always blowing in the wind. The yard was surrounded by a metal fence, and the backyard was one big hill. And at the bottom there were rocks, and then in the middle there was a tiny beach next to the ocean, and you could see dolphins swimming. And then when you were facing the ocean, to your right there were two neighbors. Both lived in trailers, because we lived out in the middle of nowhere. And I remember visiting them at one, and I got stung by a yellow jacket. Anyways, so then I went inside the house. The first floor had a kitchen that was run down, and there were stairs in the room which led to my room. It was big, and the walls were dark blue. I had a sort of reddish-brown wicker twin bed, and two sofas and a small TV on a TV stand, and then on the left wall there was something that looked like a fireplace, but really it was a very tiny bed; it looked like one for a toddler. And then on the right there was my sister's room, which had a ladder at the end so you could go into the lower part of her room, but it was empty because she wasn't living with us in the dream. And then my parent's room looked like something from a pirate's ship. I never did look at my brother's room though. At first I thought the dream was amazing, and the house was so beautiful, but then I thought about it some more. Is it possible to base a dream off of a song? http://www.jpopasia.com/play/10985/nightmare/lost-in-blue.html I just started listening to this song a few days ago. The guitar at the beginning gives a very serene feeling, just like when I was standing in the backyard with the grass swaying in the wind. And then of course the title is "Lost in Blue" and it made me think of the blue sky and the ocean, and how it was so empty. And then I began to feel sad...lonely...like I wanted to get out of there. I really hope that made sense. moreResolved Question: What are my chances of becoming a lifeguard at Bondi Beach?
Hi there! I'm interested in becoming a lifeguard or marine biologist....i would like to go to Australia for college (thinking about James cook University) And depending on how things go i might want to become a lifeguard instead of a marine biologist (maybe at bondi beach, maybe another beach) Im a very good swimmer; i've been swimming since i was two years old and i am on two swim teams (one for my school, one for a club team) Im a surfer, and i just got my scuba diving license. So i guess you could say im like a fish haha. Anyways, I had never really thought about becoming a lifeguard until the past couple weeks, since i started watching a show called Bondi Rescue on youtube (i dont live in australia; i live in California, but i really like australia it just seems like the perfect place for me; great beaches, great marine life/various animals, and here in california everyone is obsessed with looks and celebrities and what not...and it seems like people in australia dont really think like that; you can tell me if im wrong haha). I read that you have to have various types of certifications in order to become a lifeguard at bondi beach, or other beaches, which i could accomplish..but im only 15, and if i do get all the certifications and move to australia when im like 18 or 19, do you think i would have a good chance of becoming a lifeguard (at Bondi or any other beach)? Also, im a girl, which, i know only one girl is a lifeguard at bondi, so does that affect my chances as well? One more thing; if you have time, and youre in the mood to answer a lot of questions, i have a couple other questions about Australia; but you dont have to answer these if you dont want to... 1. do you generally refer to the fall season as 'fall' or 'autumn'? 2. About how long would it take someone to go from Townsville, Australia to Sydney, Australia...(hours, minutes, etc)? Please provide as much info as possible about the question/ any other info about australia. Thank you for reading this, and thanks so much to everyone who answers! :) moreResolved Question: vacation to florida/california?

I plan to take my date to Newport Beach on Valentines Day. She loves water so I thought it would be nice to go there and just walk around and maybe take a dive. Afterward is where I draw a blank. She is moving to Colorado soon so I would like this night to be fun and memorable. From Art Museums to 18+ Dance clubs, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. =] moreResolved Question: I dont know what to decide! Help me!?

[serious people only]!?
I'm doing a Comparing and Contrasting Essay for Advanced Writing & it's due tommorow. I am Comparing Iowa to California. I've been to California a few times for months at a time & I live in Iowa so I know a obviously more about Iowa than California but I still do know a good amount about both. Can you give me any obvious Similarities the two have? Or differences at that? & i Can't think of a good Title either, so if someone could help me with that too? This is what i have so far::: When people think of Iowa, they think of corn fields and farmers in overalls with a pitchfork by their side. When people think of California, they think of beaches and sun-kissed bodies lying under the sun. When it comes to these two states, most people can only think of their differences. Even though they are 2,000 miles away from each other, they certainly have similarities too. ---> I'm stuck now. I dont know where to go from there. Ergh. I hate writing papers!!! Well, if anyone has any advice or anything to help me pleassee feel free to leave your comments. Me and my friends want to visit somewhere together this year, we are 15. We were first going to California, since they have beaches, places to shop, to visit, a zoo, disneyland, etc. But we couldn't go there, so we want something similar. Where should we go? (A place were 15-year old will have a fun time together and with many things to do) We also planned Australia but it seems a bit overpriced. Where can we go? (Preferrably a place in America -the continent- or an island nearby) moreResolved Question: Where can I buy paintings from local artists in New York City?

January 20, 2010, Ever since I was six years old, I have had to pretend to be normal, to be something that I am not. Really, I am what the people around my town call, a ‘mystical creature’. I am a water fairy. Not the small, tiny, weak kind like you may read in fairy tales and fantasies, but a big, strong, magnificent fairy. My long, dark blue hair has been dyed black and cut short and I have had to hide my beautiful, dark blue wings and my strong power ever since we move to California. I used to live in an enormous, endless world, filled with trees and animals and thick forests. There were creatures of all shapes and sizes. What I miss most is my best friend, Brooklyn. I also miss my home on the beach, the sound of my dolphin friends singing out in the horizon, and my pet dolphin, Destiny. I would go out and ride on her every day and every night. Her voice was like a thousand flutes playing a beautiful song. I miss her and all of my friends. I wish I could go back. My mom and I moved here because she was writing a story about the mortal world and wanted more details. And now we can’t figure out how to get back to our world. It has been eleven years now. I miss my friends and home so much! moreOpen Question: What is so good about Singapore?
Seriously, what is so damn good about that place? I live in the United States. Southern California to be exact. Home of world famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World, pristine beaches. I also live within a close dive from Los Angeles, entertainment capital of the WORLD. All within my reach. So everything that is in Singapore, I can do here. I don't get the hype. I'm just sick of Singapore this, Singapore that. To me it's just a little, overpopulated island, that is hot and smelly and crowded and everyone has the attitude that they think they're the best.1. I too am familiar everywhere I go. I think most people are in their hometown. 2. US has way more countryside. 3. Despite the recession US is affluent too. We have to work harder. 5. Your ZOO. Our ZOOS 6. The US is more culturally diverse. 7. We have better attractions in US. Better entetainment, film, music. 8. We have National Parks 9. Better military in US 10. Money is worth more in US 11. And I believe living in a society where there is an aspect of danger makes you a stronger person 12. Don't waste your time with SG. Go to US or AUSOkay, you people on Answers apparently are mature. I've encountered Singaporeans on YouTube and we've gotten into some big arguments. These people are rude, arrogant and their ego. None of you fall under that category and I apologize. Maybe if you could tell your fellow Singaporeans to settledown. Some take too much pride and are blind to the rest of the world and think they're everything. moreResolved Question: Nice dining in Southern California beach area?

Ellie Light sure gets around. In recent weeks, Light has published virtually identical “Letters to the Editor” in support of President Barack Obama in more than a dozen newspapers. Every letter claimed a different residence for Light that happened to be in the newspaper’s circulation area. “It’s time for Americans to realize that governing is hard work, and that a president can’t just wave a magic wand and fix everything,” said a letter from alleged Philadelphian Ellie Light, that was published in the Jan. 19 edition of The Philadelphia Daily News Variations of Light’s letter ran in Ohio’s Mansfield News Journal on Jan. 13, with Light claiming an address in Mansfield; in New Mexico’s Ruidoso News on Jan. 12, claiming an address in Three Rivers; in South Carolina’s The Sun News on Jan. 18, claiming an address in Myrtle Beach; and in the Daily News Leader of Staunton, Virginia on Jan. 15, claiming an address in Waynesboro. Her publications list includes other papers in Ohio, West Virginia, Maine, Michigan, Iowa, Pennsylvania and California, all claiming separate addresses. http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2010/01/letter_writer_claims_diverse_r.html moreResolved Question: Am I too old to start surfing? Any recommendations please? thanks?
Hi, I'm 22 and live in laguna niguel, southern california. I'm 5 minutes from the beach. I would love to learn to surf this summer. Is it too late for me to start?I've always been so interested but never had the time until now. I have never done a sport that requires a board and everyone tells me that would have worked to my advantage. I'm in very good shape, I run a lot, lift weights, and in single digit body fat %. I am a good pool swimmer, but a crappy ocean swimmer if that makes any sense. Would love to hear all your thoughts. Thank you moreResolved Question: Best California law schools near a beach?
