Voting Question: Should I stay or should I go?

I'm 14, and I'm in a predicament, I don't know if I should move to Florida with my mom, or stay with my dad in Maryland. I've lived in Maryland my whole life and made so many friends and memories. I love both my parents, my older sisters and all my friends so this is extremeley hard. About a year ago, they got a divorce, but neither of my parents moved out of the city. Now my mom wants to move to Florida for a better job. They're letting me and my younger sister choose. The other thing is that I do love both of them to death, but I have a better relationship with my mom than my dad. But then again, I'm not too fond about her boyfriend.... but another thing is, they're moving in 3 weeks. They want me to finish my school year in Maryland first before I can move there, so I've got ample time to decide. I have my pros of moving to Florida: Meeting new people, more sun, beaches, etc. Cons of it: I'd leave all of my friends (mostly my 4 best friends EVER that I've known for YEARS), I'd leave my older sisters, who I love dearly, I'd leave my other family too, I'll never see actual snow again. But, here are my pros and cons of the small city I live in, here in Maryland: Pros: I have so many friends here, there's snow, you can do so many water sports (Though you can do most of them in Florida), there are amzing blue crabs...., a lot of my family lives around Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, and Virginia. Cons: It's SO boring, my school SUCKS, etc. So please help me out. Literally, I'm in tears right now just thinking of what I should do. What do you think? Voting Question: Are there any beach towns that don't charge an arm and a leg for hotel rooms?

I am looking for someplace on the East Coast of the U.S. anywhere from New Jersey all the way down to Maryland. I don't care if it's touristy or desolate or whatever. I just need to find a cheap place to take my sister for her graduation because she has never seen the ocean. I have no idea what I'm looking for but am hoping that someone out there can give me some ideas. I have spent hours looking through books and searching online and all of the "popular" places are WAY out of my price range. There probably isn't anyplace that doesn't charge out the wazoo but I'm trying to find something because I took my brother to the beach years ago for his graduation and now I need to do the same for her even though I don't have much money right now. And I'm not looking for beach front properties, just places that are within driving distance of the ocean where I can find a cheap room. Hello- I posted a question a few days ago about this but I am going down to Ocean City, Maryland in July and I am looking for a good place to stay with my husband and 1 year old son. I have never been down there before so I am not exactly sure how close everything is, but I don't want to be too far from the beach or boardwalk (since I'll have a small child to worry about!) What is the parking situation down there? Is it easy to park on the boardwalk? Also-I found this place...anyone who has been down there-is this in a good location? I really have no idea! I see my therapist tomorrow morning and want to make this okay to tell her or help me out here, if I need to make things more better, take some things out or whatnot, please- I also took responsibility on doing the right thing, pay $13 to the staff members of Food Services, due to a cash shortage thing on Tuesday and relinquish my own self from the Snack bar. I’d talk with Ebony (Assistant Unit Leader) of this and understood what I’d decided to do, to save the paperwork on investigation. So, due to that… I have chosen to consequence myself. You might get on me on this- chose not to talk to Amanda on Tuesday, due to the discussion we both had on Monday. I discuss about what went on Christmas, which I was harsh talking, to David Richardson (a member I really despise & don’t like to communicate with). What all started off me saying “I hate his guts”, was I ask him nicely to stop turning his cell phone off/on again. It was causing a disturbance and was being nice to him. 05:47 seconds later, in comes Michelle explaining to me “he was in here alone and has all rights to do whatever he wants to do with his phone”. That’s when I got aggravated and “snapped”. I was told that I was going to kick out of the van, of whatever street/road on, if I was to be like this being drop off home. (Which on the outside of me said- that’s fine. But on the inside… “Like I give a damn; I’d walk from Lynnhaven Mall to my house in the 69 degree damp day. Nothing new to me.”) So, as you can see... FEUD was taken on and consequences were enforced. You probably ask yourself, “sorry to hear about your Christmas, but did you get any good stuff or cards from others you know?” Matter of fact, I did & it was much better for me to see that. Christmas gifts- new Baltimore Raven hooddie shirt, gift cards to Subway & Target (SWEET), new body spray; new dress shirts & pants; a phone card to my phone & the bracelet from Janel I told you about (which I still wear and haven’t took it off). Now waiting of the gift from Cari. Christmas cards- from my mom, Cassandra, Santquanita & her family; my friends- MeMe, Sha, Samantha E., Danielle & Jerry and Julie Carpenter; staff members- Patricia, Thad, Ebony & yes… Amanda. You also going to say to me, “will you patch things up with Amanda? I think telling her ‘I’m not going to talk to you’, seem harsh, don’t you think? What happen to the happy, joking and high spirit Benjamin you were, when all of us met?” I guess it dawn on me that I was being angry that my friends- Janel & Cari wasn’t around for Christmas and didn’t felt like being alone nor wanted to hear the “holiday spirit” thing. I know that 2010 is coming, but here’s the honest truth… “I don’t usually care how I feel a lot at times”. When we had the Holiday Party, I was feeling too happy b/c knowing, it was the 02nd year I didn’t see my grandfather (physically) & I didn’t really care about the spirit stuff. Just said, ‘let’s get this thing over-and-done with’. I was the Grinch and I felt happy when I talk with my other friends- Marie, Nikki & Toni (my former co-workers from when I work from Dollar General 02 ½ years ago). I did told Amanda, “I do go to Beach House to work on my goals, but only with her, Michela, you and anyone else I trust & on my treatment team. I can’t do well with a whole unit or work together, but I’d felt better working on a task alone. Well… doing a snack bar, that’s major hell if you ask me. I already got complaints from others and to me- felt like saying “oh, thanks a lot, you pitiful S.O.B.’s”, next time I won’t be nice”. That also led to seeing Ebony & getting suspended for 01 straight week. That’s the thing… I don’t get along with a lot of people and I have to stand my ground at times. I’m no longer in my teens and let’s not forget… I’m from Maryland- grew up in areas where I face many people, got into feuds, fights and had to stand up for myself in a negative, provoking way. What did it get for me… nothing but consequences. I’m thinking to myself… 02 words- “that’s un(freaking)fair”. How was the outcome… I’d bail out, ignore or stay to myself until I’m ready or do my sketch art drawings to take my anger out on those I despised. (Even say random names from STREET FIGHTER or play my music, just to be in isolation.) Do I want to continue working on my goals… YES; do I hate being a failure… DOUBLE YES, do I hate hurting those I care about (especially Amanda)… TRIPLE YES. That’s one thing I should mention… “I push people away, when I feel like I’m being denied or I’m in a stage of not talking, b/c I’m hurting myself right now.” It’s just how I feel and wish others acknowledge that. We had some invites to join friends or family members in places like Las Vegas, Jamaica, and a few other long distance [we live in Maryland] getaway locations, but good lord the prices of airline fares and hotels in those popular destinations during the big holiday week were outrageously high, could not afford it. Can anyone suggest places that might actually be fairly reasonable to visit & stay for a few days over Xmas ? Any direction is fine, as long as its scenic and fun or beautiful - mountains, new england, east coast beaches, I think most airline flights are kind of unreasonable at this point so close to xmas, but we live in Maryland & can drive anywhere within say a one day drive (maybe 600-800 mile range). Thought about FL which does have nice beaches and possibly warm (never know in DEC) but its hard to get a fun Xmas holiday feel in FL unlesss you stay at a Disney resort, etc. Well, any of you well-travelled folks out there that might have some great ideas for lower cost Xmas destinations - we'd greatly appreciate your ideas/advice !!! more

I am a Californian born and raised in So. Cal Everywhere I go people wan't to know how it is over there and If I am Rich??. I drive a Luxury Type of SUV (MBenz) which is very common in So.Cal, but Rich? maybe elsewhere, but in California this is normal. True I have yet to see communities like Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, Aliso Viejo, Santa Barbara, La Jolla or Mission Bay anywhere else in this country. Maryland has pretty decent communities but it lacks taste and good weather and vibe. But anywhere you go it seems Californians are seen as conceided, snobs and pushovers and many people ask why I have decided to visit their town??.like there nothing here for you to see! You are definetly treated as a foreigner in your own country, if you are a Californian. A Proud Texas man I met in Austin once told me that Texans have pride of their state and arent afraid to shove that pride up to the Oklahomans Luisianians and New Mexiconians even the Kansans get the Texas Pride, but when a Californian shows up the pride subsides because they instinctively know Californians have seen things of greater beauty and magnitude than they have, He said he thaugh Texans had the biggest Trucks but Californians tend to raise theirs usually 6 inches. More frequent done so in So. Cal than North Cal, he said he was humble when he saw California's West coast for the first time. In his words he said if he struck it rich he would emulate the Beverly Hillbillies and move to California. But I do know California is a country within a country with 1 out of every 7 Americans claiming Cali their home so it could be common runing into us. Best of all when I went to Europe they asked us were we were from I said American or the U.S and they talk to us breifly but when I told them California their eyes opened up and were more eager to talk to us they knew more about Ca than I did WOW!!!, Now I just say I am a Californian even outside of the US as well. But I guess Many people of other states argue we Californians want to change the Countrys politics and their own states politics to resemble that of the Bear Republic's or Cali's. Well, I am a 10th grader, 15, that lives in sunny Long Beach California. My Mom is moving to Bethesda, Maryland in July, and my Dad is staying here because he has a great job here. I'm going to live with my mom, in a new house, new school, new friends, and new weather. Here are some of my concerns: 1) I am a nerdy guy. I get straight A's, make awkward comments sometimes, and know the answer to random trivia questions. This creeps some people out, and it throws people off because I am a pretty socially normal kid. I like hanging out with friends, and skateboarding and biking, and I am worried that I won't be able to make new friends, especially since it will be halfway through high school. How can I adjust to make friends easily? 2) Like I said I am a nerdy person, and I play golf. There's nothing wrong with it and I am okay with playing golf as a high school sport, but I used to play baseball and I am slipping to that side. I want to be able to re-invent myself and play baseball for the rest of high school. Should I? 3) Girls. The most important question in this post. I have not been very successful in dating so far. I have had 2 girl friends, one for 3 months that I loved, and we are still friends. One that I poured my heart out to, dated for a week, and then she dumped me for another guy. I have been turned down many times and I want to know how to be more confident in my approach to girls and I think that changing my image and starting over is a good option for this. What east-coast state should I move to? I currently live in New York state, and my family is moving in March. My Mom wants to move to Florida (near Miami, because she likes how fast-paced it is), but I, and the rest of my family dislike how hot it is. If it were my choice, I'd move to the New England area (perhaps Maine or Massachusetts) or Canada, but my family wants to move to somewhere warmer. We don't want to move to Maryland, or anywhere near NY - i.e. New Jersey, Pennsylvania. Everyone is OK with moving to North Carolina - we have family there. But I don't want to leave the snow, and I don't know of any state on the east-coast that has a mild amount of snow, yet is still warm, with a beach. I've suggested moving to Manhattan as well, and everyone nixed that. Any ideas? more

My 18 year old daughter is stepping into a child custody battle for her baby. She works full-time (and has consistently since 4 weeks after the babies birth), and has chosen to remain in school. Jessica, however, has a juvenile record. Now that she is 18, will her records be sealed to the courts? Her charges include, but are not limited to wild teenage years, getting suspended from school, getting expelled from school, shoplifting, and cerfew. (This was primarily when she was 14-15). Since turning 18, she has a signifigant amount of money saved in the bank from her job, she is very very close to graduating high school (4 credits away?) and she has remained in one dwelling for the childs life offering him a stable home. The custody battle ensues from many factors. When Connor (the baby) was three weeks old, my daughter and her boyfriend went to the beach. Jess was very uncertain about this because Connor was too young to go on a trip. Nevertheless, there was a massive amount of alcohol involved, and Jessica called me her third day into her trip and asked me to please drive to Maryland to pick her up, which I did. Since then, dad has been a fly by day, fly by night kind of guy. He lives with his mother, when it suits him (he's moved from mom to dad to grandpa and grandma since I have known him). He cannot hold a job for any longer then three weeks. He pays ZERO in child support. Does not buy diapers, wipes food, or clothing for the baby. As a grandparent, I have offered him any and every opportunity to see his son. He has done so once every two month. My reason for writing all of this: Last week, I was informed that on a particular evening that he was granted visitation with his son, my daughters ex-boyfriend had a party at his moms house. (Yes, mom was present). They were drinking and smoking a heavy amount of pot. The baby, Connor was in the house, in the living room. Now Jessica is definatetly not an angel by any means, but she definately has her goals set: Connor Work School Will she win a child custody battle and if she does, what are chances of getting 100% custody to ensure the safety of the child?Connors father had possession of the baby at the time of the party. Let me start off by saying I use to attend Everest University(formerly Florida Metropolitan University) they are a complete rip-off. I first started at the Pompano Beach campus in 2004 and I was 19, how about I'm still working on my associates? Yes, you heard it right. I noticed that I was always in the fin. aid. dept. and every 2-3 months the tuition would change so would most of the workers. Anyway I completed three years there and I made sure that I can transfer my credits to FAU, NSU, FSU, UM, and etc. The academic counselor told me yes, everything is transferrable. How about I went to FAU in Boca Raton they told me,"Ma'am we can't accept these." I asked the counselor,"Why?" She said,"Because they're not accredited." I then said,"There must be a mistake, they are accredited." She then advised me to enroll in a local/community college and that I would have to start over. I told her,"No way, thanks for your time." The next day I went to Nova Southeastern University, they told me the same thing. My heart just fell to pieces. I can't believe they lied to me. A few weeks went by I've been hearing other students say they can't get a job with the Everest degree or transfer. I don't understand why is a school who lies, cheat you out of your money, betray you, practice unethical procedures still in got damn business? I'm now 24 years-old and almost done with my associates I attend Miami-Dade College. I wish I would've went their to begin with. All I'm trying to say is please, please, please stay away from Everest University, University of Phoenix, Keiser University, Florida Career College, Kaplan University, Devry University, American Intercontinental University, Liberty University, Walden University,University of Maryland University College, South University, ITT Tech, and Virginia College. All they want is your hard earned, precious MONEY!! The only one's I know that are ok to attend from very close friends or working professionals are City College, Capella University, Strayer University, & Argosy University. Please be careful. I am really upset. I am in maryland on vacation and i live about 8 hours away. So of course can't do anything bout that. And i am not leaving until tomorrow night. Anyway one of my contacts for my eyes ripped and now i can't wear them now. i have my glasses with me but when i was on the beach i left my purse beside my towel and i think somebody stepped on it when i went into the ocean. well now my glasses are really nicked up and scratched. i only had a couple small scratches before and now i can barely see out of them. its hard to ignore the scratches right in front of your eyes. and if i don't wear glasses or contacts, i will get a bad headache and my eye will turn inward. and the contact being tore it will hurt my eye real bad to keep it in. it's so sad. also don't have enough to money to get glasses fixed up and my box of contacts is at home. i put dawn soap on my glasses and water and rinsed and dried them. is there anything i can do myself to make the scatches less noticable. more

My friend invited me to tampa, fl so he could check out a few spots to move to. We decided to drive my car there from maryland, which broke down in south carolina. He was driving at the time my car broke down. My timing belt broke which in turn bent the valves, so its going to cost me $800 to fix. Its currently at some shop in SC. We ended up flying to tampa because we didn't want to go home. He is the type of person to complain a lot and is very self indulged. Hey Guys, I need a bit of help. So, I was on vaccation with a few friends, and we were staying in Myrtle Beach. It was raining a lot, so we decided to go to this lady's godsons place in Florida. So we were all switching around, taking turns driving her big Tahoe. (There were like 7 or 8 of us in it.) So I was driving on this 4 lane road (2 lanes each way, with a middle turn lane) and as I went up the hill, I got tagged by a cop, and he pulled me over. He said I was going 51 in a 35. He then lowered it to 44 in a 35 (so 9 miles over) and made the ticket like $90 bucks. Now, the problem is, I'm from Maryland, and I dont feel like driving like 5 horus to South Carolina again to go to court. I also wouldn't mind just paying off this fine, but I am on probation for a speeding ticket I got last year (August 2nd) I seem to be getting tickets in august a lot. Anyway, the last ticket was a 100mph in a 55, and the judge moved it down to a 74 in a 55, and 3 years probation along with DIP + 2 points instead of 5. (and $200 less i might add). So I was thinking about just writing the judge a letter, saying I wasn't used to the car (since I drive a 93 Toyota Camry 2.2L) and also include a repair reciept for the speedometer, and also say that because I wasn't used to the car, and it was full of people and clothes and stuff because of vaccation, and I accelerated up the hill, and the car just went faster then I thought it would it would work? If not, can I get some other suggestions? And I hope no one says I deserve to just get the points and all that other stuff. Yeah I had a ticket a long time ago. It happened. I've been driving way better since, but sometimes things just happen outside of your control. oh, and by the way, im almost 19 (in 6 days) and have had my license since I was 17. Hi: Many of us have made some really heavy moves. But I'm sure that we all have an opinion regardless of the fact that leaded us to moving to a certain place. I'd like to know what state is the best for me. I'll give some "hints" for you to help me: -I like to investigate a lot. I like very much the culture. This means I would really like to move to a place where there is some culture like libraries, theaters, universities, etc. -I'm not too much in to beaches or humid weather. I'd move to a place like such but only if there's a good deal of job opportunities. And about the cost of living I'm also concerned. Until now I think the Midwest can work as a good deal. -I like more or less a balance about the people. I'd like more neutral people (not to close-minded but neither way too liberal). Some like a "purple state" (in-between). Like a balanced population with white majority but also where you could find minorities but in a respectful environment. I don't mind snow or cold as long as you can perform your normal activities. I have kind of a list of my ranking suggestions. What do you say?? -Michigan or Iowa -Illinois or Kansas -Nebraska or Wisconsin -Virginia or Maryland -Georgia and Florida -Any other state. Do you have more suggestions that would make to a reasonable cost of living, good demographic balance, moderate population and good character of people?? For alot of reasons I really want me & my little sister to go live with my grandma but Idk how it works w CPS & I'm scared that if I report my parents that we'll end up in foster care. I turn 18 in January so its really not that big of a deal for me but my sister is 11 & I wouldnt want her there. My mom isn't like starving us to death or beating us w chains but things r messed up. She moved us up to a little town in NY so she could be closer to her boyfriend & instead of having a job that paid well (she's got a graduate degree) she's got two lousy jobs so she's working all the time & when she's not working she's with him. Sometimes she doesnt even come home. I used to have a good life of my own w dance & stuff but now I'm the one who is raising my sister & taking care of everything around the house. My mom isn't like beating us with chains but she will go 2 far w spanking n leave marks u can see the next day & she will say it wasn't bad, it's just cause we r so fair but that's not true. She hit me on the back of my leg w a sandal on Tuesday cause she was mad about something small & it left a ugly mark u can see. They r divorced & my dad lives in Maryland & has no rights over me (I got a say in it) but he can see my sister like a few times a yr. I really dont want him 2 see her at all. When I was 12-15 he went through this depressed stage & would "discipline" me in really really really inapropriate & harsh ways & basicaly used me as like a whipping boy 2 deal with his issues & my mom knew about it & said she didnt want 2 get involved. So she just didnt do anything 4 me at all. My Nana is only 62 & really healthy & has a big really nice house & was a college teacher & is nothing like my mom & she wants both of us. She has talked 2 my mom about it but it hasnt gone far. My mom inherited a really nice house in Long Beach near my grandma & my grandma told her about some good job openings but my mom wants to keep living in a crappy rented house in a crappy town so she can keep seeing this guy who has like never ever gotten married & everybody but her knows he'll never get married so she's just wasting all of our time. I took pics of my leg & was thinking of reporting it to CPS. Like I said there are alot of things going on, like all that stuff my dad 2 me was really awful & my mom should have helped me & she didnt & I just want my sister to not go through all that crap. I live in the deep south. I like it here in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Been here 11 years and for the most part its OK until you have to interact with some of the locals and I do. I am from the north, Maryland and have been labeled a yankee by my boss who would throw it in my face on a regular basis. At first it was funny then I realized with time he was dead nuts serious and I started to get treated differently on the job from him and his cronies. He was a new boss and went to Auburn. They still fly a REBEL FLAG in the middle of town here, no really. So if you do a little searching you will find that in 2006 a group of Auburn students burned 9 BLACK churches to the ground. If you look more there was more in 2009. Now I just could not resist telling my deep south redneck, white cracker, boss about it. I then told him he should get the name of the school changed to ALL BURN. Its not funny but it sure felt good to give it back to him. His house was destroyed during Hurricane IVAN and he is also a southern baptist something and others of us are catholic so that did not help me in the position. We did say we must be living right because our houses got nothing but his was destroyed. The point,,if this place would get out of the civil war people like me that come down here would like it even more then we already do. AMERICA,,NEVER, EVER elect a southerner to the highest office in the land or I assure you the war will be back on. They should remove all the southern representatives from congress and the senate as well. This all has to be generated in the homes ( parents) of the kids who do stuff like this or they would have a different view. I love this place.
