Going to Thailand over the summer holidays at some point with a few friends can only take 2 weeks out!. First off is 250 to 300 quid enough to get by (we don't mind staying in cheap places and eating cheap food as long as weve got enough money to do other stuff). Resolved Question: I'm looking for a beach/spa/relaxing vacation, any ideas?

We were looking at Hawaii (I'm from there so we would know where to go), or some place in Asia. We are currently living in Japan so the places here would be a bit closer than Hawaii (plus my mom is still there so a HUGE reason NOT to visit). It's just my husband and I so I want it to be romantic not kid friendly. We wanted some place where there are nice hotels and spas and of course beaches but that is not expensive. We've heard Thailand is good but what about Guam or Malaysia, or any other place for that matter? more

Resolved Question: Looking for advice on traveling alone as a young (28), single woman in Thailand?

I have planned a month long trip to Thailand. I have my plane ticket and my tourist visa but little else. I leave on the 24th of this month and will be gone until the 27th of March. This is my first trip traveling solo ever and I am both excited about it and slightly nervous. I have traveled internationally quite a bit with work so feel confident that I can logistically handle it but am looking for places - like hotels, tour companies, particular cities where someone such as myself would enjoy going. I just finished a rough two years both personally and professionally and am in need of a break - it is the great weather, the friendly people and - really, the awesome food and cheap massages that are attracting me to Thailand. I know I want to spend time on the beaches down south and would like to see Chang Mai and Chang Rai. But I don't have an itinerary. Any help, advice, tips - would be greatly appreciated!! thanks! more

Resolved Question: Thinking of visiting Thailand in mid/late June and..........?

I know it will be a bit warm and the early rainy season, but wondered what parts of Thailand tend to be drier at this time of year. We are thinking of spending a few days in Chang Mai, another few days at a beach and the last few days in Bangkok - looking to stay about 8-9 days. Also, I know that there can be a dress code when visiting certain temples - exactly what is acceptable wear? Just curious especially given the weather conditions of the country at that time? The only reason I mentioned about clothing and temples is that I am getting some conflictin info in the guide books I read - and now snatch, who is living there is throwing a wrench in the works, LOL!!! more

Resolved Question: Thailand weather in early june?

Hi everyone im hoping some one out there will be able to give me an answer to this question so i can make my decision as you have probably guessed im planing to go to thailand in early june (Krabi & phi phi island to be exact) and from research i have found that this a wet season. I really dont mind few hours rain here and there but what i really want to know if im not walking in to a full on typhoon. From reading online i am getting mix signals some websites say its great time to go as its cheap and quiet and u get refreshing rain in the evening or night time but thats only for few hours and then sun is out again temp rising to 32c during day. But then there are other sites thats say that there is a high risk of flooding, heavy constant all day rain (sometimes few days in a row) and you cant touch the beach because its simply to windy and there is a fear of drowning. As you can see my dilema. I really cant decide if i should go and take a risk or just forget the whole krabi trip and go elsewhere ? What do you think i should do? Any info will be great thanks for reading and for the help in advance.... more

Resolved Question: Honeymoon Maldives vs Fiji?

I am looking to do a honeymoon in one of the over water bungalows, and we have narrowed it down to the maldives or fiji. What one is the best recommended? Any certain Island/resort. We would rather stay away from family areas and stick to the couples thing. We are looking for something nice but obviously not to expensive (though both places are expensive). Beaches, snorkeling, Bars and some night life (but nothing to seedy like Thailand) someplace where boats wont be near our bungalow. more

i'm travelling to Thailand this year for three weeks, the first week and a bit will be spent in bangkok and chiang mai, and the last two weeks will be spent south near phuket. we are thinking of spending one week in phuket and another week in either krabi and phi phi islands or ko samui. we would like to go to all three places but it would be far to busy , so which is better krabi or ko samui. we are wanting to go to beaches with beautiful scenery, clear water, white sandy beaches, palm trees, basically a beautiful beach paradise with great scenery. so where should we go and why . sorry if thats confusing , but all answers are appreciated . thanks more

Resolved Question: Most romantic places in the world?

My boyfriend (hopefully soon fiance lol) are planning a trip for June. We live in Canada right now, and have seen most of Canada, and for this vacation we would prefer to leave North America. We've don't want Caribbean (we've been a couple of times already), or Mexico. We've been to 11 countries in Eurrope (Switzerland, France, Italy, etc.) so we don't want to go back there this year. Really, I'm just wondering what would be considered the most romantic places (beach preferred instead of city). We've been looking along the lines of somewhere like Greece, Thailand, even Hawaii (although I realize this is American). Is there anywhere else we should consider? We're looking for beautiful scenery, beaches, a relaxing vacation ,but options to tour small towns or cities if we wanted to. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Thailand's best beaches and places not to miss?

Me and the missus are going on a 30 day trip around Thialand in a couple of weeks. We are interested in seeing a few things but we must include (a) a good place to party (other than the full moon party - though comments about this are welcome) and (b) the most beautiful island/beach/paradise to spend our last week chilling. Basically, any advice from those with experience of the country would be most appreciated. P.S. At this point, thinking about starting in Bangkok, then up to Chiang Mai, then a slow journey down to Phuket and surrounding areas. What's in-between that shouldn't be missed? Wow, long question! Thank you! Many, many thanks to those who answered! I can't rate (only just signed up to this) but I really appreciate it! Great stuff! :-) more

Resolved Question: Why do I enjoy verbally abusing women now?

A few years ago I was really genuinely respectful to women, I would write poems or songs for girls I liked and hold doors and all that kind of such. I had so much respect for them. Then I went to Thailand with this guy I barely knew, and I was paying for the trip and wanted to see the tourist sights (the movie The Beach inspired me and I wanted to see jungles and beaches and temples and stuff), but he wanted to see the prostitution there. So one night I was drunk and agreed to go check out the bars where the prostitutes were, but told him I didn't want to take part in anything or support it. I believed they were all victims forced into that life. But then after talking to many of them, I realized that they were just greedy and refuse to leave that life. They don't want to work at mcdonalds or grocery stores, and do that waiting for a big pay off in the form of a 60 year old sex tourist who will want to marry them. After that trip, I have not had much respect for women. I don't know why, but if I like a woman, I feel the need to verbally abuse her. I don't know why, it's just like my way of flirting. Like if I talk to a girl, I'll call her a derogatory name, usually relating to her being easy, promiscuous or just something rude. I think its funny for some reason and it's kind of like how boys pinch girls in elementary school who they really like. But how did that Thailand trip convert into this? I don't get it, what's going on in mind that causes this? Analyze meYeah I know I lost respect, thanks for reading, but why did this turn into kind of like a fetish for verbal abuse? I dont get how it translated into that. more

Resolved Question: Best honeymoon destinations?

Getting married in April next year (2010) Have never been out of Australia, so am looking for somewhere that's a bit different culture. Also, not too expensive. Resolved Question: Thailand beach holiday? WHERE?

Me and my boyfriend are heading to Thailand March/April time and heading to Bangkok, Chiang Rai and then onto a beach area. The main thing we want to do is relax, swim, maybe go on some boat trips to nearby islands, and possibly other activities and sites to see for a few days. We want somewhere which is not too difficult to get to such as 3 flight changes and a boat, we don't mind a flight and boat ride to get there but obviously if we are only here for 2 weeks and after already flying to the other destinations we do not want to be stuck travelling for hours. Easy to get to ideally from Bangkok We were thinking about an area of Phuket but i am put off by it being too touristy and not 'proper' Thailand, we are both in our 20's so would love a few bars and things to do at night but do not want a place too touristy and English! Any ideas will be greatly appreciated more

Resolved Question: Honeymoon Hotels in Thailand?

My fiance and I are planning our Honeymoon for October 2010 in Thailand. We are looking for recommended hotels from those who have ACTUALLY stayed in them, so please describe your experience and why you recommend it. (Or why you don't recommend it.) We've been googling like crazy and all we can find are horrifyingly expensive rates ($600 USD a night!!!) or very, very cheesy packages like those found at www.honeymoonthailand.com. Here is what we are looking for: (it doesn't have to have everything on the list) - $100 USD or LESS per night. - Honeymoon benefits (free massage, free breakfast, anything) - Intimate/quaint! Non-commercials hotels/inns/bed&breakfast are great if you can recommend. - Locations are negotiable since we want to see a lot of Thailand. Bangkok and Phuket for sure, even though they are so far from each other. Something in between might be nice. - 14 nights most likely, so any deals surrounding that are great too - Split nights between multiple hotels okay, if we can get some good recommendations - Private tours are a plus! - Pool or hot tub is a plus, but not required. - Airport pick-up/drop-off a plus. We are NOT looking for: - Cheesy tourist packages - Cruises - 100% beach. We want to see a lot of the rich Thai culture, not just beaches. - 40+ person tour with lots of college kids. Its our honeymoon, not our spring break. Thank you in advance! I always choose "best answer" so please be thorough and helpful! more

Resolved Question: Do asian women date asain men anymore?

Everywhere I look is seems asian women are soo desperate to get with a white guy and no other race. Even the onese in asia not just in america. lots of girls in asia will get on dating websites to marry a white guy even if hes like 80 years old and not that rich. Like there was this 90 year old man from england married to a 20 year old (EWWW) asian woman in Thailand and she was complaining to him how she wishes she was lighter. And to make her feel better he explaining how all the english girls rush to the beach to get a tan like hers. Its been quite a while since I seen and asian/asian couple here in america. more

Resolved Question: Any Pattaya (Thailand) Tips?

Hello, I am travelling to Pattaya and staying for 2 nights. We are a group of four 21 year olds - 2 males and 2 females, and 2 of us are a heterosexual couple. We therefore want to stay somewhere in walking distance to all the lively stuff - but don't want to step out of our hotel and be greeted by go go girls for example. We are mainly interested in a nice hotel, near a nice beach but close enough so we can explore and see all the sights Pattaya has to offer (including the go go girls but we don't want all this forced in our face!) I have been doing some research and from what I can tell Pattaya is split into areas; north, central, south and Jomtien Beach area. We have been looking at the Citin Loft Hotel and think this is in central area. Anyway I guess I just need a little advice from people who know Pattaya about the best place to stay for what I have said we would like Thanks :) more

Resolved Question: Travel to Thailand during February?

I'm planning to get away from vancouver during the busy olympic season and make use of the free period during post secondary break. So being a student with a part-time job and on budget, Thailand sounded good to me. Naturally, english and mandarin are not the native language in Thailand so I have couple questions to ask. 1. i'm canadian so should i apply for visa in canada or does thailand do landing visa 2. should i book online ticket and hotel (maybe package from expedia) or go to travel agency? 3. i'm thinking of going diving or snorkeling, staying on the beach, visiting temples (especially the very accient ones), visiting the big buddas. Where should I go for those 4. i also like night life and culture stuff, so where should i go for those? 5. i am thinking of flight to bangkok and go around from that point, how easy is it? 6. should i hire personal guides? 7. anything else you guys can think of that might help me in this trip? 8. how long should i stay to complete question 3 and 4? thanks a bunch. i did look up lots of info online, but none of them actually helps me from deciding...so please let me know more

Resolved Question: 24 hour check in at Thailand Hotels?

We are travelling to Thailand and only have a few days there because of the way our flights are organised. We land at Bangkok airport at 01.10. We don't want to waste anytime so we were planning on getting a taxi to the beach resort of Pattaya - the only problem being we will arrive at our beach destination at around 3am and need to find a hotel that will allow us to check in and have a room. We would like to prepay for all our accommodation before we leave (as we won't have access to a credit card) and this will also take away the hassle of having to pay for things when we are out there. Does anyone know of any hotels in Bangkok or Pattaya that would allow us to check in at 3am ish?! Is it just a case of contacting them to ask?! Thanks more

Resolved Question: How ridiculous is this molestation incident that happened in Singapore?

There is an outcry over an incident where a woman was openly molested by 4 men at a NYE dance party on a beach in Singapore. She was clearly in distress, but the people surrounding her not only watched, they whipped out their phones to record the entire thing. Now there is this ridiculous debate on whether the poor lady "deserves it" because she was at a BEACH party in a BIKINI and perhaps intoxicated. Here is an article:http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.asiaone.com%2FNews%2FAsiaOne%252BNews%2FSingapore%2FStory%2FA1Story20100104-189643.html&h=20f06efebb479fac66603a1f40e76f7a I read that 4 molesters and the lady are foreign. I can't help but assume, from the physical appearances of the 4 men, that they are south asians and are from a place where the men are not taught respect for the female gender. In certain parts of India and South Asia, women can get raped and then jailed because it is believed she must have done something to "deserve" it. People also said that the lady is in fact a transsexual from Thailand. But does that mean it is ok to molest her? This is a classic case of: her body language said yes, although she said no. She may be stupid by acting this way, but no one deserves to get molested or raped. And of course another horrifying thing: the Singaporeans who stood by and watched and did nothing. It is said that it was eventually a woman who attempted to help the lady. What is worse: the Singaporeans who are aspiring directors and recorded the sexual assault, or the debate on whether the girl 'deserves" it?Someone should pretend to at least know geography because crime punishment is severe in Singapore for rapists, it's not South Asia and rape does not always happen in Singapore..nah caning for littering is ridiculous, Singapore may be very strict but not so draconian! more

Resolved Question: five favourite places in thailand?

sorry for asking so many questions about Thailand, but i have researched it and answers are not straight forward, i would like to know in every bodies opinion the five best places ( or more) to visit in Thailand. my family are thinking of going but we would like to see a a lot of the country, so if you could give me some ideas of must see destinations including places in the mountains where we would see rice patty fields and do elephant trekking or where its just pretty, clean pretty beaches, crazy and laid back cities, old styled towns, islands, best shopping... this would be largely appreciated, also what is the best time of year to visit Thailand. thankyou :) more

Resolved Question: Cape Verde or Not Cape Verde..that is my question?

hI mY WIFE AND i OWN A PUB AND WE ARE KNACKERED AND NEED SOME R&R. We have investigated and the nearest place to UK with sun other than Egypt with sand and sea seems Cape Verde The island of Sal. Its got a direct flight in 4.5 hours. Been into travel agents today and been offred a 4star hotel for 2 of us for 1200 pounds. I know it won't be like a UK 4 star but I am used to huts on the beaches of Thailand... so it can't be too bad and as long as that includes some beer, some snack foods, Im sure we can find alternatives. Also, we are looking at going next Monday for just a week, so this isn't a be all and end all holiday of the year. Just a warmer break than Norfolk in the UK We have a choice of two sister hotels the Riu groups Funnana or Grapaua on Sal. Come on, help me out, the little village of Santa Maria sounds sweet..all we need is some sun shine, some smiles, some good food and time to sleep and read and xxxx. Thanks for your answers.... more

Resolved Question: Advice on Travel to Thailand in Early March?

I am trying to plan a vacation in early March and would like to do the following things: swim in clean water at a beautiful beach, eat good cheap food, take a cooking class or two, do a little shopping and a little sightseeing. Here is my most important question: which beach is clean, safe, beautiful and good to be at in March? I've been to BKK once and loved it; wouldn't mind spending a day or two there. Experienced travelers, tell me which beach you'd go to in March and how you'd get there from BKK. I will have 8 full days available to me (not including my travel to/from the states days). Also, if you have any hotel, restaurant or cooking school recommendations, I would appreciate any input you have. I've already collected a few recommendations from Trip Advisor, but it always helps to have tips corroborated from other sources. Thanks for your help.My hotel budget is fixed at no more than 150.00 on a very, very nice place for one or two nights, and less than 80.00 for everywhere else. I think this is possible for something clean and safe. I am a woman, hoping my other half will decide to come with me. If not, I'll be traveling alone. more

Resolved Question: Holidays in South America?

Ok so I have a few question:) 1)There aren't many tour operators that cover any of S.America- where would you suggest the best place to go for a 2-3 weeks holiday. I would love to go somewhere with beautiful beaches, exciting culture and maybe even rainforest? But not overly touristy! 2)How would I go about booking it? (Looking for cheap flights and nice hotels?) 3) Any advice on holidaying in any of these countries? 4)Would anybody be able to tell me the total cost of their holiday? Rough prices etc? Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate this guys! I am just trying to decide whether to go to somewhere in S.America or go to Thailand? more
