Open Question: Greek resort recommendations?
Can anybody recommend a Greek resort for a young couple. We like bars, restaurants, shops to walk around, nice beach, lots of excursions. Not somewhere to mad though like Laganas or Kavos. We did Marmaris, Turkey and really hated how tacky it was. So far I have been looking at Tsilivi, Zante, Kos Town, Kos, Sidari, Corfu. Any other recommendations. PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Ten Americans were detained by Haitian police on Saturday as they tried to bus 33 children across the border into the Dominican Republic, allegedly without proper documents. The Baptist church members from Idaho called it a "Haitian Orphan Rescue Mission," meant to save abandoned children from the chaos following Haiti's earthquake. Their plan was to scoop up 100 kids and take them by bus to a rented hotel at a beach resort in the Dominican Republic, where they planned to establish an orphanage. Whether they realized it or not, these Americans — the first known to be taken into custody since the Jan. 12 earthquake — put themselves in the middle of a firestorm in Haiti, where government leaders have suspended adoptions amid fears that parentless or lost children are more vulnerable than ever to child trafficking. "In this chaos the government is in right now we were just trying to do the right thing," the group's leader, Laura Silsby told The Associated Press at the judicial police headquarters in the capital, where the Americans were being held pending a Monday hearing before a judge. Silsby said they only had the best of intentions and paid no money for the children. She said her group obtained them through a well-known Haitian pastor named Jean Sanbil of the Sharing Jesus Ministries. Silsby, 40, of Boise, Idaho, was asked if she didn't consider it naive to cross the border without adoption papers at a time when Haitians are so concerned about child trafficking. "By no means are we any part of that. That's exactly what we are trying to combat," she said. Social Affairs Minister Yves Cristallin told reporters the Americans were suspected of taking part in an illegal adoption scheme. Cristallin said the 33 children were lodged late Saturday at an SOS Children's Village outside of Port-au-Prince. SOS Children's Villages is a global nonprofit based in Austria. Many children in Haitian orphanages aren't actually orphans but have been abandoned by family who cannot afford to care for them. Advocates both here and abroad caution that with so many people unaccounted for, adoptions should not go forward until it can be determined that the children have no relatives who can raise them. UNICEF and other NGOs have been registering children who may have been separated from their parents. Relief workers are locating children at camps housing the homeless around the capital and are placing them in temporary shelters while they try to locate their parents or a more permanent home. The U.S. Embassy in Haiti sent consular officials, who met with the detained Americans and gave them bug spray and MREs to eat, according to Sean Lankford of Meridian, Idaho, whose wife and 18-year-old daughter were being held. "They have to go in front of a judge on Monday," Lankford told The Associated Press. "There are allegations of child trafficking and that really couldn't be farther from the truth," he added. The children "were going to get the medical attention they needed. They were going to get the clothes and the food and the love they need to be healthy and to start recovering from the tragedy that just happened." Haiti has imposed new controls on adoptions since the earthquake, which left thousands of children separated from their parents or orphaned. The government now requires Prime Minister Max Bellerive to personally authorize the departure of any child as a way to prevent child trafficking. Silsby said they had documents from the Dominican government, but did not seek any paperwork from the Haitian authorities before taking 33 children from 2 months to 12 years old to the border, where Haitian police stopped them Friday evening. She said the children were brought to the pastor by distant relatives, and that the only ones to be put up for adoption would be those without close family to care for them. The 10 Americans include members of the Central Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho and the East Side Baptist Church in Twin Falls, Idaho, as well as people from Texas and Kansas. Idaho friends and relatives have been in touch with them through text messages and phone calls, Lankford said. "The plan was never to go adopt all these kids. The plan was to create this orphanage where kids could live. And kids get adopted out of orphanages. People go down and they're going to fall in love with these kids, and many of these kids will end up getting adopted." "Of course I'm concerned for my wife and my daughter," he added. "They were hoping to make a difference and be able to help those kids." The group described their plans on a Web site where they also asked for tax-deductible contributions, saying they would "gather" 100 orphans and bus them to the Dominican resort of Cabarete, before building a more permanent orphanage in the Dominican town of Magante. "Given the urgent needs from this earthquake, God has laid upon our hearts the need to go now vers moreOpen Question: Obots - Do you support the arrest of 10 red state Caucasians who attempted to save Obama's peeps in Haiti?

VA group enabling those who hire illegal aliens January 30, 4:21 AMImmigration Reform ExaminerDave GibsonPrevious 3 comments Print A common sight in Virginia Beach (sanctuary city) APLast weekend, the Virginia Horticultural Foundation held a workshop geared towards owners of landscape companies entitled “Spanish for the Green Industry.” During the seminar held in Virginia Beach, instructors led their classes in basic Spanish lessons as well as Latin American culture. VHF education coordinator, Dawn Alleman told the Virginian-Pilot they began offering the course four years ago because the workforce for the landscaping industry is dominated by those who speak only Spanish. Alleman said: “If you want to be a foreman in those types of places, you've got to have a decent grasp of Spanish.” One of the attendees, Tom Ritter, owner of Ritter Grounds Maintenance in Norfolk, VA, took the class so that he might be able to speak to his workers for the first time in ten years without the help of a translator. Ritter said: “I just want to be able to communicate with them on a day-to-day basis.” Course instructor, Yolima Carr, passed out a book she has written to the class which contains English-to-Spanish phrases which might be helpful to landscapers, such as: “Take out the weeds in the flower bed, edge the bed, then blow the leaves and the clippings.” She reminded the business owners that the ‘immigrants’ working for them are from their homes and families, and that because of their Catholic beliefs, may need certain days off. Carr, who is the gardens curator at the Hermitage Museum in Norfolk, suggested that the workers be allowed to play Mexican music, and should be complimented on their work (“Hiciste un buen trabajo”). Attendees paid $160 each for the five hour class. This is yet one more example of those who fail to see the need to hire U.S. citizens, when an illegal alien will do it for less. That philosophy may go a long way in lining the pockets of unscrupulous employers, but in a time when so many Americans have been laid off, it is just shy of treason. By the way, the group offering the class, the Virginia Horticultural Foundation, operates as a non-profit and as such enjoys tax-exempt status. My fiance and I are going on our honeymoon on July31-??. We cannot leave the states b/c his papers will be pending, so we have chosen Hawaii. We would like to spend $500 or less a night for a room- or $3000 for the hotel cost (using miles for airfare). I would really appreciate some recommendations from people that have been to Hawaii. We want the classic Hawaii honeymoon, preferably a resort where there will be NO kids, and I am super picky about hotels. I like modern-luxury. We really are not wanting to do a lot of activities (hiking, kayaking) we just mainly want to relax on the beach and have some drinks :) So a hotel with beach access is a must. We are also looking for a resort with at least a couple of restaurants so we will not have to leave that much to go and eat. And if your thinking....just call a travel agency...I have and they work off commission so they don't listen to what I really want- they just want to send us to a mainstream hotel with nothing that we asked for :( So I would really appreciate some good advice- as we need to book soon! :) Thanks! moreResolved Question: What do U think about this VA group that is enabling those who hire illegal aliens Attendees paid $160 each?

Hello, I would like some advice as far a sunny, beach vacation destination somewhere in Greece. We are looking for a family-friendly area, quiet, but not overly-rural, beach front or beach access with easy access to main roads/train/airport to travel else where. I really do not know much about Greece, and we are planning a family vacation of 2 weeks there. Vacation sites gives me a bunch of cities, aisles but I do not know about any of them. Any advice as far a beach destination, close to attractions and fairly easy access to transportation.? Any hotels/resorts that are well known. We are preferably looking for an all-inclusive resort or half-board. Cities, isle recommendations and what to do is greatly appreciated. Thanks moreResolved Question: Where to go on holiday in Europe in September ?

We would like to go somewhere where there will be plenty to do not somewhere rowdy but some where nice with atmosphere and bars still? We love our beaches, restaurents and bars but not nightclubbing places. We live in UK so looking for somwhere that is no more than 4 hours. It has to be a very nice resort with lots of nice food and stuff as my partner loves his holiday food ! and its his 30th borthday so has to be special. Any recommendations ?
