Best Caribbean Beaches Questions asked

Resolved Question: Best places to vacation in the Caribbean?

Me and my really good friend want to get away from the states for a week and take a vacation in the Caribbean. The thing is we don't know where would be the best places to go. The basics we are looking for are great beaches, awesome nightlife, cheap shopping/fun, and water activities like snorkeling; but overall looking for a great time. We are 20, so were trying to make the most of it. What are the best places to visit? And we are also thinking about taking a cruise, so if anyone has done that as well would be great help too. :) oh and when would be the best time to go? like is December cheaper and still warm or would another month be better? more

Resolved Question: Whats the most economical tropical destination?

The husband and I both want to take a much belated honeymoon to somewhere tropical with white sandy beaches etc in about a year (not particular about dates. Any time of the year will be fine.) The problem is I can't really research trips because I have no idea where the best place to go would be. I'm open to pretty much anywhere, from Hawaii to the Caribbean. We will not be taking children. Ideally I'd like something inclusive with decent lodging-- Doesn't have to be 4 star, but clean and pest free with food and drinks included would be great, or decent and cheap restaurants nearby. I'd be planning to fly from Phoenix. Where do the experienced travelers think I will get the most bang for my buck from besides Mexico? (I'd prefer not to go there.) more

Resolved Question: What are some of the best all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean?

Planning a Spring or Summer 2011 Vacation. What would be suitable for a mom (41) and her son (17)? Beautiful Beach and Waters is the MOST important, all-inclusive would be the best, price doesn't matter as long as it isn't extremely expensive. Room isn't too important but still want great quality as well as great food. more

Resolved Question: Which Caribbean Island is right for us?!?

My husband and I are planning a trip to the Caribbean in October! We are hoping that in October the islands wont be so crowded like in the summer. But we are having a really hard time deciding on an island! We would prefer All-Inclusive (but it doesnt have to be), with the clearest, blue waters and the whitest beach. And the best value! We have found some in Jamacia we are interested in. They seem to have the cheapest resorts. Does anyone have any suggestions?Yeah, that is true. I have heard Jamacia is pretty rough right now. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: What is wrong?? I'm a lesbian/gay?

I'm a semi- attractive female. I feel really really bad because I somehow feel it's wrong. I live in a Caribbean country where gays are NOT accepted at all. Anyways I've always dated / been intimate with GUYS and I have a boyfriend for the past five years but have secretly fantasized about being with a sexy woman. So there is this chick at work who is straight and has a bf for the past six years. I can't seem to stop thinking about her! Even my bf knows how much I like her but he totally hates the idea of me being a lesbian. I'm kinda new to the workplace (8 months) and I notice that she always sits next to me and me only when we have a staff meeting or function and chit chat. She's totally hot, drop dead gorgeous and classy by the way and I wouldn't have noticed her if she didn't keep moving her chair to sit beside me. So I take it as a hint that she wants to be normal girlfriends and start calling her but she NEVER returned my calls. Even my bf said it was obvious she didn't want to be friends. I start visiting her cubicle more often and she totally starts to ignore me. What do I do? I took it as a hint she didn't want to be friends anymore and totally ignored her for the next 3 weeks until there was a staff function where she was totally talking up to me and trying hard to convince me to come to the staff beach party which i made it clear i wasn't coming. i wondered if she was being fake because she always blew me off so i cancelled on her the day of the trip and she acted fine. I heard from someone the other week that she didn't bother to go and i wonder if it was because of me. Anyways she keeps doing this: ignoring me at work, then acting like we are best friends whenever there is a staff social. It's driving me nuts because i have a huge crush on her and want to be best friends if not a secret experimental lover or something but she keeps sending mixed signals about wanting to be friends. My solution was to totally move around and ignore her when she tried to sit next to me at the last function because she is totally hurting my feelings. What is wrong here am i overthinking? more

Resolved Question: My boss is trying to steal from me?

To make a long story short, I work at a men's warehouse store in Myrtle Beach, SC. I am getting ready to move to the Bahamas to, at long last, open my cigar shop. So the days of being someones subordinate are finally numbered. But of course my ******* boss couldn't go out without a bang. Someone in the shop (Not me) accidentally damaged a machine, and no one owned up to it. But I get blamed with no evidence other than the fact that I'm the newest guy trained in alterations. So I get $400 dollars illegally withheld from my final paycheck. I have no time to sue as it happened yesterday and my flight leaves the day after tomorrow. But here's the opportunity. I work my last shift tomorrow, my boss leaves around 5pm but I stay till 8 o'clock and close the shop. She has already given me my final check since I'm leaving (Minus the 400.) So, tomorrow night, I remove 400 dollars from the registers before dropping the bags in the safe. The next morning, My flight departs at 8:15 am ,and by the time my boss arrives 45 minutes later and discovers what I've done, I'll be somewhere over the Caribbean drinking Champagne and sitting in first class laughing about it. Best part is, and I am a native and citizen of the Bahamas, the Bahamas will NOT enforce a US judgment if she sues in small claims court. Also, the DA in Myrtle Beach will never seek international extradition all the way back from the Bahamas for such a minor offense. Too much expense out of their budget for a crime that would be punished with a slap on the wrist. And that's not even taking into account the fact that international extradition is difficult and time consuming in and of itself. So we can rule out anything more than a statewide arrest warrant. And as fine a state as SC is, I don't really know many people there, and see no reason why I'd ever be back. So, could I do this? more

Resolved Question: what is an awesome excursion you've been on!?

so... i'm going on a southern caribbean cruise w/ carnival victory next January. i'll be in san juan the day before the cruise departs, then i'll be in san juan again for the first day of the cruise. then st thomas, dominica, barbados, st kitts, st lucia, st maarten, and san juan is the last day. i've heard kayaking is amazing, and ATV is apparently fun... i like adventure, but i don't wanna do hiking or anything. i hate historical walks. and i don't want a tour guide to just cling to my side for 5 hours telling me historical facts and taking me site seeing. i'd rather have some fun and adventure or else go and find my own peaceful beach. anyway, what is your best excursion experience?! what do you recommend?! and WHY more

Resolved Question: Grand Cayman or St. Thomas/St. John for snorkeling with kids?

Resolved Question: Disney World - Polynesian or Animal Kingdom Lodge?

We will be taking a trip to Disney World during the Christmas season (I know it is a busy time). My husband and I have been to Disney 3 times, but we have never been with our children. When we go, our kids will be 1 ½ and 4 ½ . We have stayed at the Caribbean Beach twice and once at the All-Stars Music Resort. We really enjoyed our stay at both resorts (although we had a lot of issues with the buses at the Music Resort). We want to make this trip run as smoothly as possible since we will have little ones in tow. I remember the hollow-eyed looks of parents dragging strollers onto the over-crowded buses and I want to try to alleviate as much of that as would be reasonable. Also, we have decided that since we will be back at the hotel everyday for a nap that this would be the trip that we would spend the extra money for a more upgraded resort experience. We have narrowed it down to the Polynesian and the Animal Kingdom Lodge. My biggest concerns are: a nice comfy room with room to move around (the Music resort was kinda of small) and transportation that is convenient. Which resort has the best sized rooms and the best transportation for little ones. We will only be paying for the double queen rooms not the suites. Any information on the rooms and buses would be a HUGE help. NOTE: We love the Animal Kingdom and obviously the Magic Kingdom for the kids. My little girl loves the animals so that is part of the consideration for the AKL. The monorail is part of the consideration for the Polynesian. We will be going to the these parks multiple times. We intend to get a Savannah view room. Can anyone comment on the size of the rooms? more

Resolved Question: Southern or Eastern Caribbean cruise to renew our wedding vows?

My husband and I will be taking a cruise next year in November 2011 with our 2 kids ages 14 and 11. We are planning to renew our wedding vows on the beach at one of the ports we stop at the day of our 15th wedding anniversary. We were thinking going to southern caribbean, and the ports for the day of our anniv. would be either Barbados, St. Lucia, or Grenada. We have never been to the southern or eastern caribbean so would like some input. I have many people say they like the Eastern caribbean the best, but the southern looks nice as well and you get to see more ports with a southern caribbean cruise. more

Resolved Question: Best Caribbean island vacation?

My wife and I have been to Aruba, Jamaica, Cancun, and Costa Rica. We are trying to decide between trying something new or going back to Aruba. We are currently looking into St. Martin mostly, but will consider alternate suggestions. The things we love about Aruba: Direct, nonstop flights from DC; it's relatively safe - you don't see guys walking around with machine guns patrolling the borders of your hotel/compound; Awesome restaurants and food; beautiful beaches and snorkeling; excellent bus system-cheap and easy so you don't need a rental car; plus casinos and nightlife. We are looking at St.Martin because they also have direct flights from DC, but we will consider other destinations too. Does anyone have an opinion on where we should go?Yes, we've been to the Mediterranean and would love to go back but airfare right now is a bit outrageous. Mallorca is our dream retirement destination! more

Resolved Question: Tropical Island Family Holiday?

We are trying to plan a tropical island holiday for some time this year or next. We want to find somewhere beautiful with white sandy beaches and lagoons and all that .. we've been looking into the caribbean, the maldives, hawaii, bora bora, mauritious .. places like that We don't really have a budget .. money is not an object .. we wouldn't mind flying anywhere in the world :D We have been all over europe and the us .. and would like to go somewhere different We are quite a big family so we are finding it quite difficult to find the perfect place to suit everybody.. my husband and I want somewhere idylic and romantic (saw pictures of the maldives and fell in love!) ... i would love a spa place .. but we also have 6 kids aged 3, 6, 6, 8, 10, 15!! .. so my teenage daughter wants some sort of shopping near by, and also activities for the younger kids. I'm not really sure that the two go together and if such a place exists .. but we really want a full family holiday :) We are not really fussed what time in the year we go .. as we would want it to be hot and not in rainy season .. however it would preferably need to be in school holidays. If there is anybody that can help us choose where to go or know the best place to suit our family .. your help would be much appreciated x Thank you very much more

Resolved Question: Best places to go on holiday in Europe?

I REALLY need a holiday this year. Desperately! And since we cant really afford to go to anywhere really far away like the Caribbean, i want to go somewhere truly AMAZING in Europe. Know any places? You dont have to follow this criteria completely, but here it is; Beaches, and beautiful sea. This is SO important for me :) Gorgeous architecture Friendly people - since im not particularly talented at languages, it would be nice if i could at lease feel welcomed ;) Touristy, but not TOO touristy... If you know what i mean :) Great weather! Thankyou! :D xPs. I was thinking about Greece, only problem is is that i've already been there and ideally would go somewhere else. But its SO amazing that i think just going to another part of it would be fine :) Any suggestions on what part i should go, if i do? :) I went to Corfu x more

Resolved Question: NEED HELP with picking a CRUISE for a first time cruiser...?

Hope you can narrow down my choices of different cruises I've looked at. I have free airfare out of either Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando (Port Canaveral), or New Orleans so the ship would have to leave from one of those ports. Things we'd like: not very expensive (for example prices of more than a quoted $400 per person end up being too much after taxes, etc. we'd like to stay around $900 for the two of us, although we realize that drinks, sodas, excursion, tips, etc. will add to that amount), either 4 nights up to 6 nights on the ship, excursions off the ship to places that have perfectly clear blue water (unlike Florida where you couldn't see a shark if it was underneath you!), food that's good but we would like some dinner choices that don''t have to involve us sitting with other people at night unless we really want to (there will only be two of us), a quiet place on the ship without kids where we can just look out at the water and sip cocktails, possible a jazz club on board, or a good casino. Things that aren't that important to us: swimming in the pools on the ship, kids activities (since it will be just us/two 45 year olds), taking part in shows or contests (seeing a hairy chest contest is not my idea of fun..), lines to eat dinner or being forced to sit with 10 other people, huge crowds at every single excursion off the ship (although I realize crowds are part of the deal on cruises, but just wondering if you know of one that has more quiet hide-a-ways or private excursion to private beaches with less than 100 people for example.....) Whew! I realize that's a lot to take in, but if you have the best cruise that might fit let me know. I've seen Carnival cruises advertized for low prices when we'd be going around Oct 4 thru Oct 31 and also some Royal Caribbean ones. I looked at Norwegian cruises too but they didn't have ports in these places as far as I could tell, except possibly one out of Port Canaveral, not sure though. Thanks for any info. more

Resolved Question: Currently live in the U.S. Thinking about relocating to Australia. Insight?

I currently live in a small town in Pennsylvania about 90 miles north of Pittsburgh. I will have my Bachelor's degree in communication from The University of Pittsburgh in June and am seriously considering moving to Australia. I am single and do not have kids so now is the best time to move if that's what I decide to do. I am obsessed with beach, I love hot, sunny weather, and like being surrounded by people of all races/ethnicities/backgrounds. I am a cultured, educated, amiable and motivated young woman. I make friends easily and yearn for more adventure and excitement in my life. I have been doing a lot of research and have heard extremes of both the good and the bad and everything in between. I have some questions and I would greatly appreciate some more insight please! My biggest question is what exactly is the "points system" like to emigrate there? I am 23, healthy, educated, no criminal history; would I likely be able to get a visa? And how does the whole Visa process work? I will have my Bachelor's degree, as I mentioned, and have about 4 years of work experience. What can I expect to make? Again, I am single and will not have any help with income (until I meet a wonderful Aussie man, of course ;) so I need to make sure I would be able to comfortably live! (I would consider a roommate, I suppose) I am young and enjoy the nightlife, as well as culture. What city would have the best scene for other twenty-somethings? I.E, theaters, museums, comedy clubs, bars, restaurants, etc. What are the crime rates like? Are the people of Australia more optimistic and imaginative than the general population of the U.S? Everyone is so cynical and jaded here! One of, if not THE biggest concern I have, is from what I've heard about all the dangerous critters that reside on the continent. I keep hearing horror stories of giant, aggressive spiders, thousands of species of venomous snakes, sharks, etc. Is the wildlife there really as bad as people make it sound? I am not naive and I understand each country has it stereotypes, but is the premise of this ghost story based in enough truth? My biggest fear is of spiders, eek! What is the cost of living there like? I have heard Sydney is very expensive, so I am leaning more towards Melbourne. Speaking of cities, what would be the best city for me to live in? I plan on being there for 2 or 3 years (maybe longer if I fall in love with it!). I like busy cities (meaning there's a lot to do) with a laid-back feel (the hustle and bustle of an NYC type city might stress me out too much). I enjoy diversity and despise the uneducated, "red-neck" attitude. Now I know a big stereotype with Europe is that they do not like Americans (b/c of the American stereotype?), but how do Aussies feel about Americans? No ill blood there right? I don't want to feel like the odd-woman out all the time! :P Also, I know it changes a lot, but what is the current conversion rate? That's all I can think of at the moment. But if you can think of any other pertinent info please let me know. I have travelled within the U.S. and to the caribbean before and I guess I just want to make sure that if I did make the move I'd enjoy it, and be financially and socially sound after I did. It's exciting thinking about it, but I want to make sure I don't have a naive, too high of hopes about the whole thing. I guess I just need to know what lifestyle changes I would need to make; all the major differences and adjustments, you know? Thank you for your input!! ~SarahSo in order to move to Australia you HAVE to fill a vacancy for a job the nation needs? You can't just move there because you admire it and want to live there? (I will have to work but what about for, say, retirees?) more

Resolved Question: Can you give me some advice on elopeing?

My boyfriend and I are madly in love and really want to get married. The problem is that we have alot of divorces in our family and people not speaking to each other :( and it seems that having a wedding could be a little hectic, not to mention family and friends all over the place! We have decided that eloping might be out best option and we are very excited! We live in the Caribbean for half of the year and Alaska the other half of the year, so a beach wedding really wouldn't be what we are looking for. I want to spend about $6,000 all together on everything, but could possibly spend more. I want to tie in our honeymoon into our wedding, and I think it will just be the two of us. I also want it to be special, I want the dress with the pretty flowers, and a pretty little cake, all that good stuff. Any good suggestions? I was thinking mabey Italy would be nice, but somewhere in the Stated would be cool too. Thanks!!Also I refuse to go to Vegas!! more

Resolved Question: Which island is the best island to visit in the Caribbean?

My girlfriend and I are 22 and are looking to take a trip at the end of May to the Caribbean. Resolved Question: What's the best spot for a Caribbean vacation, bang-for-your-buck-wise?

The girlfriend and I are looking for a 5-7 day Caribbean excursion. There are so many options on the table we feel we are spreading ourselves too thin in our search, so we'd like to narrow. Here's what we are looking for (in order of importance): 1) A price tag under $1600 when all is said and done. (Flight, hotel, food/drink, activities...everything) 2) Beautiful, not-too-crowded beaches with clean, clear water. Access to secluded areas, and kid-free beaches would be great. 3) A variety of activities. While the greater part of this trip will be beach relaxing, we definitely want a couple days of adventure. Specifically: snorkeling/diving, jungle tours/hiking, rafting/tubing, ruins and landmarks, off-roading, fishing, etc, etc. I'm a nature boy, so I'm more interested in off-the-beaten-path stuff as opposed to cookie cutter tourist trap stuff. We want nice amenities, but don't require 5 star. We are 31/26, so are down with a bit of nightlife, but aren't going crazy. If anyone has suggestions on destinations, and maybe even resorts or regions within those destinations, we would greatly appreciate the advice. Also, recs on where NOT to go are also great. Here is our current, broad list: Costa Rica Belize Riviera Maya Aruba Puerto Rico Bay Islands (Honduras) Virgin Gorda (Little Dix Bay) Turks and Caicos Bahamas US Virgin Islands Jamaica Dominican Republic Trinidad/Tobago Feel free to talk up or talk down these spots or add to the list. Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: I want to go to Australia for spring break..where's the best place to go?

I would love to lay out on the beach with a lot of kids my age, around college or so, night life, maybe some shopping? It doesn't need to be a huge busy city. But I'd love to go a place where the atmosphere is safer (than mexico or the caribbean) but still super different from the U.S.preferably walking distance to the beach from the hotel! more

I am going on a cruise to St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Martin/Maarten and want to know what 1 or 2 beaches on each island are best. Also, could you give some pros and cons? Swimming is important and preferably white or golden sand. more

Resolved Question: Best Caribbean resorts for teens?

Hi, my family is planning on going on a Caribbean vacation in July 2010. 1 adult and three teenagers, age 13, 15, and 17. We are looking at Turks and Caicos, the Dominican Republic, or Jamaica, but we are open to any suggestions. We we really like an all-inclusive resort that has a lot of activities for teens, such as snorkeling, water slides, or horseback riding on the beach. We would prefer a resort that is not totally overrun with young children or babies, either. Price is not a huge issue, but we would prefer it not to be outrageously expensive. We plan to go for 6 or 7 nights. So, any suggestions on where to go? Thanks in advance for the help! more
