Ellah Pacific I. Ellah & I “Let’s just love each other like we’re meant to, okay?” She whispered in my ear and time eased into a stop. The gulls hung stationary in the early evening sky, like plastic ornaments tacked on a hazy-shaded window. I held her and tried to run my fingers through her knotted mahogany locks; it didn’t work so well. She laughed, and with a blast of salted air and exhaust, she disappeared. She must have done something tricky, something pretty damn clever, because I’m clever myself yet…I couldn’t figure out how the hell she got her words to resonate like they did. It’s been three and a half months and that vague, tease of a sentence is all that I hear. “Love each other like we’re meant to. /Love/ each other. Like we’re /mean/t to.” What did that even mean?! I have no clue; I’ve been asking myself, as well as anyone who will listen, on a near daily basis. People are clearly starting to get sick of Ellah and I. ~ “Alex, I think we’ve found your problem.” Mary says with a tight-lipped smile. “Not to be rude or anything Mary, but we already know the problem. I made this appointment not to find it, but to fix it.” I explain. “Okay, what do you think the problem is?” “I can’t get Ellah out of my head. She’s like an obnoxious friend who says she’ll only be crashing for a week but ends up taking rent-free residence on the couch for three and a half months. It’s a pretty bum deal too, because it’s not like you can claim a 20-year-old mental freeloader as a dependent on your taxes.” Mary tries to stifle a giggle. She has a nice smile. I like making girls smile, even graying, forty-something year-old psychiatrist types. Besides, Mary’s nice enough that she deserves it. “Alright then. To stop yourself from thinking about Ellah, you first need to stop referring to her by name. This may sound odd, but Alex, you need to think of her as less of a person.” My heart sank. Ellah is the kindest, most accepting, most respectful person I’ve ever met, and denying her humanity just wouldn’t be right. In all actuality, it makes more sense to think of Ellah on a plane above most others, not below. If keeping Ellah sacred requires me to simply deal with my little obsession, I’ll do it. “Sorry Mary, but that’s just not going to happen. Thanks for your help, and sorry I’m too stubborn to accept it. You’re a nice lady though, and you appear to enjoy your job, not to mention you seem pretty good at it as well. My only criticism would be that you should smile more. You have a pretty smile and nice teeth.” I close the door to Mary’s office and exit the Student Health Center. The summer California sun has turned San Diego into one big sauna. Exams are just a day away so nobody is outside enjoying the weather. A lot of these Californians seem to take sunshine for granted. As a native Washingtonian, I revel in whatever rays I can catch. I un-strap my longboard from my backpack and skate to the beach. After a couple failed attempts at studying I end up walking the pier. Eventually, I find myself sitting on the rail directly across from where I first met Ellah. ~ “Have you ever tried counting the waves?” I turned to see who had just asked such a ridiculous question. A girl, looking out toward the sea, just shy of five feet tall, with a bundle of shimmering mahogany tangles on her head and almond shaped green-blue eyes. She was dressed for the 60’s or maybe the 90’s, but not now. Everything about her seemed out of place. She was far to chill for 2009; even San Diego moved too fast for her. “Um, no, I don’t think so. Maybe as a kid, but it’s been years since then.” “Why?” “I don’t know. Counting waves seems kind of pointless.” “No, why has it been years since you were a kid?” I laughed, wondering how much pot this chick just smoked. “Well, I grew up…” With a slight smile, she looked directly at me. Our eyes met for a second that felt like forever. Before I realized what had happened, I saw the strange little hippie girl splashing around in the water below. The skirt she was wearing sat crumpled at my feet. “Come on, jump!” She called from the sea. Shaking my head, I hesitantly took off my flip-flops and shirt, and jumped in behind her. “What the hell, why’d you do that?!?” I exclaimed. She giggled, “Because you don’t have to be seven to be a kid. I’ve grown up too, yet I’m still a kid.” Be honest! Be brutal! I'd just like some feedback is all. :)Definitely see your point about the shrink. I might re-create that character altogether into someone quirky like a server in the dining hall or maybe even one of Alex's professors. With the "chill", however, I was making an attempt at giving it a tinge of surfer lingo without being totally overbearing. I figure as I write more I'll add a little more and it won't seem so out of place, but I'll keep my eye on that and see how it works out. moreResolved Question: Looking for ultimate city in Northern California....?
I want to be a couple hours drive to any good ski resort and a couple hours to a quality beach in northern california. I have no idea about the different cities in northern california that would fit this description. After finding the geographically correct place to live, i need to question the economy and the employment opportunities. Compared to a large Californian city, I'd rather live in a smaller city/town to avoid busy roads, crime and smog! An airport, shopping and entertainment in the area would be a plus. Thank you for any suggestions you may have!! moreResolved Question: Do you like californians?
We have the hottest people, best beaches, and best slang/clothes/everything. Whats not to love?BonQuiQui, at least ive always had my freedom ;) moreResolved Question: Is it safe to let my hermit crabs free into California ocean water?
I have two hermit crabs and I want to get rid of them, but I don't want to give them to a PetsMart or something of that sort. I'm going to San Francisco, California, next weekend and I would much rather set them free than have to have them live their lives in a container. I was wondering, if setting them free in Californian ocean would be unsafe for them or if it is - where should I set them? I'm driving up the Pacific Coast Highway so I can let them go at a variety of beaches. moreResolved Question: Southern Californians, Where could go today-New Yr. Eve- to see fireworks at bay area?
... mainly Long Beach, Hungtington Beach, Newport Beach, Redondo Beach, etc Thanks! btw, Happy New Year!! moreResolved Question: Trip to LA, CA. Any advice from locals on a few things?
Hello, I'll be flying to LA the 20th or 21st, and I will be staying somewhere on 6th ave near Hermosa beach. I'm going to the ISS Long Beach show on the 22nd and the 23rd. It is at the Long Beach convention and entertainment center. I'm working with a new screen printing company and we are going there to check out all the newest technologies and to take classes. By the way, I am from Alaska so I am really excited to escape this -30F weather! I will be the pasty white one partying on Hermosa beach like its summer with a family of Alaskan natives! So my questions are, how much sun does LA get this time of year? If I'm going to be running around with a tank top on, even though its not super warm, would I still have a chance of getting a sunburn? Usually I get a burn if I'm in the summer sun for only a couple hours, I am super white and pasty. So I'm trying to figure out if I need to get a light tan to protect my skin at all. (There is less than 3 measly hours of daylight here this time of year in AK) I will be outside a LOT, probably most of the time, so that is why I am asking. If I wasn't, I'd just use sunscreen. So what is your opinion, my Californians? Is the sun strong enough this time of year to give a pasty white girl a sunburn? Another thing I'm wondering is different places to check out or visit, and also anything about local music playing. I'd be able to walk to Hermosa beach from 6th ave, so any awesome places in that area I would love to hear about. I'm looking for places to just hang out, eat, and sight see. I'm into art and music of all types, so anything containing that kind of stuff would be awesome. We will be going to Venice beach on the 21st, and will be at long beach the 22nd and 23rd. If you know of anything awesome going on I would love to hear it. I'm more just looking to enjoy my time there and look around. I'm pretty much broke so nothing super expensive. Anything goes, REALLY! I really am into ALL kinds of music and art, the stranger, the better!! Please, weird me out!! Thanks Californians in advance!!! The cold one, Kristin moreResolved Question: Question for people in California? Only Californians!?
I was watching 90210 last night, and I was thinking to myself.."Gosh, life looks fun in Cali" I don't know why, but it seems fun and adventurous. & it seems like there are beaches everywhere. Is it anything like I'm thinking it is? moreResolved Question: Mysterious Boom heard/felt in southwestern California. Did you hear/feel it? What could it have been?
I'm trying to gauge the affected area of this "Mysterious Boom". Here's what happened: This morning, at around 8:30am PST, there was a boom that shook my house, but not the ground. I wrote it off as a strange kind of sonic boom or geological event. At 4:10pm PST it happened again (worse this time), but with successive smaller aftershocks and numerous small, distant "boom" noises. I felt it coming, then felt a pressure in my ears as it struck my house. Again, there was no shaking of the ground itself; I'm Californian, I know how earthquakes feel. It felt more like I think a bomb blast would. The news says that local Navy and Military bases report no testing, and that there have been no earthquakes or any other seismic activity that coincides with the booms. I want to know if it was felt any farther away than just my local area of San Diego/Imperial Beach (we're in the southwestern-most corner of California). Did you feel it too? Where? And while you're at it; Any speculation on what it could have been? (I suspect meteorite or bombing; my best friend and her sister say Aliens) moreVoting Question: Where is the Californian Octopus (world's smallest octopus) found?
Like the exact city, exact beach... Where are best found? moreResolved Question: Which state is better? California or Texas?
Im californian so personally I say California. Hot girls, beaches, sun, and chill people. Whats not to love? moreResolved Question: What do you think of as the "typical Californian"?
When I was growing up, I thought that California had: - Surfers (white people) with sun bleached hair; having campfires on the beach etc. - in Sanfransisco liberal pot smoking hippies (but nonetheless white hippies). - white artists creating incredible new styles of music - White nerds working out of their garage discovering mindboggling breakthroughs in technology, and then moving to silicon valley, starting their own companies. - generally just friendly layed back white people who like to do lots of outdoor activities. But now I think that Californians are: - Mexican Americans (who do Mexicanish things, eat tacos, etc?) - illegal immigrants - Asian-Americans and Asian immigrants working for giant hi-tech companies. - some remaining white people who like and promote interracial dating Wikipedia says that: - Non-Hispanic whites decreased from 80% of the state's population in 1970 to 43% in 2006. (So really only 43% satisfy the traditional definition of white. Like it or not, "white Mexicans" do not exist. They all are part Amerind and the US government is skews statistics in saying that there are "white Mexicans") It is especially sad to hear the song "Hotel California" by the Eagles today. California is just not some wonderful dreamland. Sorry to be politically incorrect, but race is what has destroyed the original California. California: remember your past and R.I.P. moreResolved Question: What do you think of californians?
I live in SF. Im curious what landlocked states think? personally, I love the hot girls and sunny beaches.Oh and since this somehow ended up in the Politics section I guess I should mention im a member of the CAGOP.MikeGolf I agree, Try sharing a city with them, its awful. moreResolved Question: Is it me or are Californians seen as conceided ?
I am a Californian born and raised in So. Cal Everywhere I go people wan't to know how it is over there and If I am Rich??. I drive a Luxury Type of SUV (MBenz) which is very common in So.Cal, but Rich? maybe elsewhere, but in California this is normal. True I have yet to see communities like Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, Aliso Viejo, Santa Barbara, La Jolla or Mission Bay anywhere else in this country. Maryland has pretty decent communities but it lacks taste and good weather and vibe. But anywhere you go it seems Californians are seen as conceided, snobs and pushovers and many people ask why I have decided to visit their town??.like there nothing here for you to see! You are definetly treated as a foreigner in your own country, if you are a Californian. A Proud Texas man I met in Austin once told me that Texans have pride of their state and arent afraid to shove that pride up to the Oklahomans Luisianians and New Mexiconians even the Kansans get the Texas Pride, but when a Californian shows up the pride subsides because they instinctively know Californians have seen things of greater beauty and magnitude than they have, He said he thaugh Texans had the biggest Trucks but Californians tend to raise theirs usually 6 inches. More frequent done so in So. Cal than North Cal, he said he was humble when he saw California's West coast for the first time. In his words he said if he struck it rich he would emulate the Beverly Hillbillies and move to California. But I do know California is a country within a country with 1 out of every 7 Americans claiming Cali their home so it could be common runing into us. Best of all when I went to Europe they asked us were we were from I said American or the U.S and they talk to us breifly but when I told them California their eyes opened up and were more eager to talk to us they knew more about Ca than I did WOW!!!, Now I just say I am a Californian even outside of the US as well. But I guess Many people of other states argue we Californians want to change the Countrys politics and their own states politics to resemble that of the Bear Republic's or Cali's. Hey Californians what feedback do you get while at other states??? I get's interesting. moreResolved Question: When the Beach Boys sung about wishing all the girls could be Californian, did they mean beautiful but thick?

The former businesswoman derided bureaucrats who "rarely have the desire to think things through." She lamented the employment of "mid-level bureaucrats" as though they were buffing their nails at the DMV while the rest of us stewed in line. She criticized "a selfish and arrogant bureaucracy, unwilling to give even an inch even in the toughest of economic times." All that irked many bureaucrats, mid-level and otherwise, because they have in fact agreed to concessions to save the state billions this year. "It is really hard for us to tell our story," said Dr. Helene Calvet, the city health officer in Long Beach. "We are not good at self-promotion." Many of those concerned about the H1N1 virus now circulating through California have been dealing solely with private doctors, but public health doctors still are making many of the decisions that affect them. A federal declaration, made earlier this year, put local and state health agencies in charge of fighting the pandemic. Since last spring, those agencies have worked with local hospitals and physicians on how best to confront the virus. They have been trying to educate schools and employers -- and the public -- about what is already here and what may be coming. They are also a key conduit for the dispersal of vaccine as it slowly arrives. In some areas, public health officials are holding clinics themselves to inoculate high-risk residents. In other locales, including Long Beach, health officials are forwarding their cache of vaccine to local doctors. They are fighting at diminished strength. Health agencies have been hammered by California's perennial financial problems, and a budget mechanism that was meant to stabilize the money they receive is making matters worse. In 1991, as California confronted its last notable recession, funding for local health programs became tied to receipts from car license fees and sales taxes. Unfortunately for the doctors and nurses, both have nose-dived in this recession. The most recent report from the state Department of Finance said sales tax receipts were running more than $300 million behind estimates for the year, and car fees were $77 million below estimates. On the ground, that has meant shrinking public health departments. "We are definitely challenged," said Dr. Edward Moreno, the health officer for Fresno County and the president of a statewide organization of local health officials. "Our capacity to mobilize forces to respond to a pandemic is reduced." Dr. Jonathan Fielding, Los Angeles County's public health officer, said his department, too, is smaller than it once was, but he hopes the pandemic will heighten appreciation for undervalued government agencies. In defiance of stereotypes, he notes, county workers are volunteering to help out at the flu vaccine clinics, which began Friday. More than five dozen are already scheduled, many on nights and weekends. "This is an 'all hands on deck' enterprise," he said. "The largest undertaking this department has ever had." In Long Beach, the city health department has held round-robin meetings with hospitals, doctors, businesses and the school district to figure out their joint response.oops, wrong section. i guess it can't hurt if you guys help me out too. moreResolved Question: bureaucracy........................................................poli sci help please...?

Id like to assure you, we have many, many dumbocrats at my school, but I am 18, a registered republican, and very proud of it. All of my friends vote republican, because we all work and recieve paychecks. Not to mention we have strong support for the military, whereas much of the Democratic citizens do not, and don't tell me im stereotyping you, most of your dems are all the same. Anyway, there are a few republicans here, me, and 20% of my school. Again, not that many but we still exist. Im repainting my kitchen. I live in a loft style condo, where all my main walls are a very light (off -white) blue. All my furniture is either white or light coloured wood. I have light laminate flooring throughout, and my kitchen cupboards are shiny white. All appliances are white. I was going for a beachy/californian kind of look. Im thinking of painting my kitchen a deep sea blue, with one wall yellow. Im hoping to give the illusion of sun and ocean, without being tacky (shells and beach paraphernalia on the walls). Thoughts? Am i way off here? moreResolved Question: HOW DOES THE TYPICAL WHITE AMERICAN LOOK LIKE!!!!?

Hey, my name's Missy, I'm 18, and live in a city just south of Seattle, WA. I just graduated from high school and finished my associates degree from a local community college. I'm taking the year off to figure out what college I'd like to attend next year and figure out what major I'd like to pursue (since I already have two college years done, and now I'd have to jump right into a major). I have all intentions of going down to California for school. I've narrowed my colleges down to four...I think. They are... Sacramento State Cal State: Fullerton Cal State: Long Beach San Diego State I'm really not sure about which school would fit me best because I'm not completely familiar with those areas since I've lived in Washington my whole life. I have always thought that Californians and Aussies are similar, beach culture, tanned, blonde, surfing, palm trees, beautiful scenery, lots of wild places. Any one else think that? I know Australia is a lot bigger and is a nation and California is a state but I think they are quite similar. moreResolved Question: What are some cool beachy names for twin girls?
Not too hawaiin or californian, but more like the east coast-style. I like: Kayli Lei Kay'lee Kai Kelleigh Kelli Leili Kea I am thinking of moving to bethany beach, DE and i am having twin girls so can you think of any other beachy names that would fit with the town?Just to let you all know: thanks for all your answers !! In this very short period of time (with the help of your answers) my husband and i have decided on: (DRUMROLL PLEASE!) Lailee (pronounced Lay-Lee) And... Khialee (pronounced Kay-Lee) Lailee i actually came up with. I mixed some of my favorites, Lai and Lani and made Lailee. And Khialee is just like Kaylee but spelled more beachy and original. Kaylee was another one of my favorites, and my husband came up with the spelling twist. The tradition in my family is to name middle names after family members, so... Lailee Renee and Khialee Robin Renee is my sisters name, and Robin is my aunt. Thanks ! moreResolved Question: The River, Havasu, Parker....WHY?
Why do people......especially Southern Californian's.....especially Orange County people LOVE "The River" so much?? I ask because I'm reluctantly going in a few weeks. I've been there once before so it won't be a new experience. It's about 3 1/2 hours away by car (no ability to fly at all) & it's between 105-113 degrees & approximately 100 degree's at night!!! What's the attraction, it appears to be just pure hell. All you see is a bunch of "wannabe" UFC fighters with tattoo's. Everyone looks like they're from Huntington Beach. So what, girls in bikini's, like you can't see that at the beach (average temp 75-80). So what you see muscle guys (mostly fat) big whoop, so what you see muscle boats biiiiig dealll!!! Oh did I mention it's hella hot!!! moreResolved Question: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIAN'S: Does anyone know of any nice Studio apartments in the Southern California area?
I am looking for a studio apartment in Gardena, Torrance, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Inglewood (the decent parts), Long Beach, San Pedro or any area around these parts that you may know of. It's just me and my 28 pound dog. I don't want to spend more that $800.00 per month, not even that but I know it'll be hard if I went any lower. Thanks and I really appreciate any responses! moreResolved Question: True Love. Am I thinking Heathcliff? Am I being so stupid and irrational?
Two years ago, I saw this one girl and since then she is on my mind like spotless. It was, indeed, a love at first sight. That girl was crying. She was crying hard. I couldn't do anything but to give her my handkerchief. Then, I left. I found out her name and added her to my friend list in FB. But I never had a gut to talk to her. But then I met her again the following year. At same place. (She and I are living in different states.) That time, I just went up to her and said, "you are cute," and we shook hands. From then on we talked through MSN, FB, and texted each other frequently. Since we're living in different places, we could tell anything. Anything, really. I told her things that I can't tell to my friends. Even best friends. And, too, she told her secrets and issues. I had some relatives up north (where she lives) so I met her twice. We just hang out. Well, that was a brief summary of our history. Anyway, I sent an e-mail telling her that I love her. Anonymously. Well, no. I used a fake name but eventually she found out it was me. She was angry. She was enraged. She was indignant that I didn't tell her more honestly. So I sent her a real written love letter and a video clip that I made. I told her I am sorry for everything I did. I was such a stupid, irrational liar. But I never asked her out. I mean, we've only met twice and we don't know each other that well. So I kept telling myself to forget her. But I just can't. I've seen other girls but they don't...make me happy. When she smiles my heart lights up inside and I feel the happiness and peace. I can't find that feeling.....anywhere....with anybody...but if I was with her.... Therefore, I decided to transfer to her school. I'm leaving everything behind. My friends, family, dogs, house. Everything. I've already withdrew from my previous school and probably I passed the entrance exam of her school so I have no choice anymore. Now I am scared.. of many things. What if she doesn't reciprocate my feeling... what if my GPA drops... am I going to be all right being alone, having the apartment all to myself... The most scary thing is....what if she gets dissappointed if we know each other more. Her reply to this whole moving thing was: let's hang out when I get there and...let's give a shot for friendship....if something happens, something happens... something like that. I just can't copy/paste what she wrote, can't I? lol I don't know what my questions were. Maybe I just wanted to tell my feeling to the void. I want to scream. I'm screaming inside that I love her. She changed my life and all of my goals. Seriously, man. She is going to Australia for college. And, I, totally American-made Californian boy, wants to stay here. But ahhh... if she moves then maybe I would. I don't know. Please, someone. Give me some opinions and tell me your experiences. Like how you met your true love. How to ask her out. Well, I have ideas. Her states, can't tell where, has no sea. And she keeps telling me that we do not know each other so I found a great way to show her and tell her who I am. I love surfing. I love the beaches. So I put some small teeny tiny shells and sand in bottles. One for me to remember the Californian beaches. And one more for her to...like know me? How much I adore this place... These bottles are like an epitome of my life. I want to ask her out, giving her the bottles and dunno. I just want to know her. I just want to hold her. I want to kiss her. I love her. Any ideas? A hundred red roses? lol Okay, this is so long but people.... help me. I'm really puzzled at the moment. moreResolved Question: people from california, answer this for me please!?

Im a NYer born in the 80's. I was always fascinated by what i saw on TV about CA, growing up as a kid. San Fransisco seemed like heaven, in terms of its hippie culture in the 60's (Blow), and i always wanted to live there. I always used to think that CA had its own culture. But now that I've visited CA (not lived there), I see everything that I'd seen before is overrated, just like what foreigners think about NYC. I want to ask Californians: is there a CA culture. How would you describe it, would you describe it anything like shows like The OC, Laguna Beach etc? I definitely love the weather there though. moreResolved Question: help with finding a title for a short story: easy ten points!?
basically the story is about deja vu. a seventeen year old girl is having writers' block and decides to take a break and go on a walk through her small town. as she's walking, she keeps having like(sorry its the californian in me) flashbacks to different times in history but she keeps seeing this one guy who's by her side in every flashback. the ones i have in detail are a masquerade, one where she dies after giving birth to a baby girl, she's a native american and he's a french explorer, and i'm pretty sure that's it. She feels like she's going crazy and is crying at the beach as its drizzling and she meets him again and she's like blah, who are you!? and he goes on explaining that they've been with each other through all their lives and he hold out his hand to hers, and once she touches his hand, she sees basically all their lives together. last thing written is him saying 'we will always be together' or something along those lines. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :]if it's any help: the girl: -her name is Blaire -17 -dark brown/auburn hair -brown eyes the guy: -his name(current time): Gabriel -18 years old -long blonde hair -green eyes moreResolved Question: People from the state of California!!!?

Sixteen Child Sex Abuse Lawsuits against Jehovah’s Witnesses Are Settled Largest Deal Ever in Denomination’s History Includes Controversial Gag Order One of the Predators is A Fugitive & Was Profiled on “America’s Most Wanted” Nation-wide Support Group Blasts Secrecy & Wants To Help Others Who Are Wounded WHAT: At a sidewalk news conference, clergy sex abuse victims will disclose and discuss a child molestation settlement (allegedly in the millions of dollars and the largest-ever) against the Jehovah's Witnesses. All but two of the 16 victims are Californians. One of the predators, a San Diego native, was on ‘America’s Most Wanted.’ They’ll also discuss a nationwide outreach effort to find and help more men and women who have been sexually abused by Jehovah's Witness officials. WHEN: Thursday, May 10, 10:00 a.m. WHERE: Outside the __ County Courthouse, ADDRESS (corner of __), in San Diego (BILL-PLS GET TH IS FROM OUR SAN DIEGO LEADER PAUL OR MARY GRANT 626 419 2930) WHO: Several clergy molestation victims including a Long Beach woman who is the long time western regional director of a nationwide support group called SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, SNAPnetwork.org) DETAILS: Over a five day period in February, 16 civil child sex abuse lawsuits against Watchtower (the Jehavoah’s Witness headquarters in New York City) were quietly settled in three states (CA, TX and OR). The victims involved were essentially coerced into signing ‘gag orders’ that prevent them from discussing the cases. Attorneys for the victims are Greg Love and Kimberly Norris of Ft. Worth Texas (817 560 5600). Six years ago media was first alerted that Jehovah’s Witnesses have a policy that endangers children. Since that first report in which William H. Bowen reported a fellow elder in Kentucky that was a confessed child molester and who remains a Jehovah’s Witness in good standing to this day, over 6,000 abuse survivors have come forward to say they too were molested and silenced by Jehovah’s Witness policy on child abuse. Dateline, CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, BBC, CBC, New York Times and over 30 countries have aired documentaries that identified child rapists who enjoy sanctuary in Jehovah’s Witness congregations. In 2007, fugitive Rick McLean (a San Diego native and long time resident) was featured on America’s Most Wanted and suspected of molesting over 30 children while protected as a Jehovah’s Witness. In the last five years, more than 40 lawsuits against Watchtower (the Jehovah’s Witnesses headquarters/administrative arm in NYC) have been filed by members to seek justice for the way they were treated by church policy when they were molested as children. Attorney Jeff Anderson successful in over 600 lawsuits over abuse states, “When victims are forced to sign gag orders it is a continuation of the coerced code of silence from church hierarchy. Jehovah’s Witnesses silenced molested kids before the elders and now they are doing it in the courts. After a five year court battle Watchtower is finally admitting they have hurt children. Material will be provided to assist Nashville Jehovah’s Witness sexual abuse survivors at the press conference. http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=35566 Rick McLean info, http://www.silentlambs.org/rickmcleanamw.htm http://www.silentlambs.org/NationalPresspacket.htm Contact: William H. Watchtower policy has silenced thousands of victims and continues to strangle their ability to cry for justice and healing. One month ago, we were informed about settlements in some of the more than forty recent civil sex abuse lawsuits against the Jehovah's Witnesses. We learned that 16 victims were paid the largest settlement in history of Jehovah’s Witnesses but forced to sign a gag order that forbids them from speaking about their abuse. We find this bittersweet. On one hand, we're glad a few victims are finally getting some financial help. On the other hand, we're sad and worried because they've essentially been forced to give up their right to protect others by speaking out about their abuse to the public. In 2002, US Catholic bishops publicly promised that the church would never ask for gag orders when compensating abuse survivors. Five years later, Jehovah’s Witnesses do just the reverse. They keep putting innocent kids and moreResolved Question: Why do Americans believe the USA is the best Country in the World, when you visit there it looks like Mexico?
