How long could you keep a vow to not use electricity? I was curious about the vow above, in the modern age would this be easier or more difficult to keep then a vow of silence? I was inspired by the below article.... --quote A vow of silence - Key to bliss may be as simple as turning off your car radio In a stressed-out world filled with 24/7 bad news, author Anne D. LeClaire has discovered the key to calm and bliss. On the first and third Mondays of each month, she practices silence. No talking to her husband, her publisher or her two grown children, no chatting with the occasional houseguest, the repairman or neighbors. No one. “On silent days, I try to have nothing on the calendar,” LeClaire explains from her home in Cape Cod, Mass. “Sometimes I’ll be traveling for a book tour, but the silence is still with me. I can’t be complaining and grumbling if a flight’s delayed, I don’t get involved in all the hassle.” The result: “The days are peaceful, and I release all my stress.” LeClaire began her silent Mondays 16 years ago after walking on the beach to contemplate her sadness about a friend’s mother dying. The former reporter and radio broadcaster wasn’t particularly religious and wasn’t the quiet type. But she heard the words, “Sit in silence” in her head. The decidedly unflaky LeClaire announced to her husband she’d spend the next day not talking. Since then, she has eliminated e-mail, radio and television from her silent days, though she’ll sit at the computer and work on novels. “My single determination when I began was to not speak,” says LeClaire, whose ninth book, “Listening Below the Noise” (Harper, $19.99), documents her experience with quiet. “But the more comfortable I became with silence, the more I thirsted for it, and the sounds I’d accepted unquestionably became noise.” She quit using TV for mindless background and stopped switching on the car radio. “I found I really liked driving without the distraction,” she says. So what’s it like being unplugged twice a month from our 24-hour world? “I feel like I’ve been to a spa after each silent day,” LeClaire says. “I have so much more energy.” She has also become a better listener, is calmer, and has learned what’s truly important. “We live in a culture where we think everything has to be done now—that we have to respond to every e-mail and phone call immediately,” she says. “What I’ve discovered is, much of what we think is urgent can wait a day or two.” Silent meditation has long been accepted as a way to achieve calm and wisdom, and more health-care professionals are incorporating silence into their practices to combat stress. Chicago therapist Marita McLaughlin, who practices contemplative psychotherapy, starts each session in silence with clients. “We sit quietly, breathing calmly and connecting with each other and ourselves as we begin our work,” says McLaughlin, who also teaches meditation at Chicago’s Shambhala Meditation Center in Rogers Park. The silence lasts as long as the client likes. “When they feel ready, they begin the conversation.” She encourages clients to meditate outside therapy to de-stress and gain insight. “They get a different perspective on what’s going on and begin to see habitual patterns that get in the way of their desires and goals,” she says. “Meditation gives perspective and it carries over.” Some patients, however, need persuading to unplug. Acupuncturist Patricia Piant, who’s with the Integrative Medicine Program at NorthShore University HealthSystem, has clients who’ve chatted on their cell phones during treatment. “One person turned the cell phone off but thought texting was OK,” she says. “We’re trying to get people away from that for at least the 20-30 minute treatment.” In addition to oncology patients and those dealing with infertility or injury, Piant treats patients for stress, which she says has skyrocketed over the past few months. “People have told me that the only time they have quiet is when they’re on the table.” “I tell patients, if you’re on my table, it’s OK not to answer your phone for that amount of time. You don’t have to take your laptop into bed and work at night. They find out much of that stuff isn’t as important as they think and the world won’t come crashing down.” LeClaire says her silent days have formed a buffer from today’s constant onslaught of dire information. “Look, all that bad news will be there tomorrow, and so much of that news engenders fear. Just being away from it for a day helps us regain our reality.” And in times of crisis, reflection and quiet are especially important. “Whether it’s health, financial, political or a relationship crisis, it’s imperative to stop and be quiet. It gives you time to reflect and not just mindlessly react and raise the ante of noise.” --quote source http://archives.chicagotribune.com/2009/mar/15/news/chi-0315-quiet-timemar15 moreResolved Question: Would you recommend Cape Cod for a working holiday?

Notebook. Check. Pencils. Check. I crammed all my favourite books into my almost exploding bag. My hands trembled nervously, my head kept repeating the dreadful thought again and again. I am going to high school tomorrow. I am going to high school tomorrow. Get a grip, Dewey. You are the smartest girl in your elementary school and going to high school is just like another easy test, once you get the idea everything will naturally fall into place! I wiped sweat from my forehead. Glancing up I caught a glimpse of myself in the green rimmed mirror perched on my dresser. Short, fiery red hair that reminded me of Anne of the Green Gables. Popping, green eyes that I constantly told myself did not in the slightest look like a frog's. My body was like a windblown stick that was going to collapse any second. Compare to my curvy and beautiful cousin, Matilda, I looked like an immature three year old. No matter, the most important thing to me are books! I couldn't live a day without those old volumes beside my side. The shrilled sound of a siren woke me from the sea of thoughts. Oh! No! It was already afternoon and only a few short hours until my future life in Riley Era High! I stumbled down the stairs, ignoring my mom's angry shouts issuing out of her closed study. Throwing open the door, I ran outside. Sun blinded me and the salty wind caressed my cheeks, twining in my messy hair. The familiar Cape Cod beach in the distance beckoned at me with the joyful shouts and screeching laughter. I grinned and shut my eyes, feeling like a magical character from a fairy tale. So free! It is time to enjoy yourself now, don't worry about high school the future will decide for itself. I sprinted into the garage, waving to a scurrying squirrel on the nearby cherry blossom tree. Unlocking and jumping onto my rusty bike, I pedalled toward the blistering beach. Faster and faster until I flew. You might think this is boring but this is just the first point of view from the first main character. It will get better. moreResolved Question: Do you like my story?
Here's part of my story! I picked up a tiny piece of beach glass, that was my favorite color blue. The edges were rounded, not sharp, it was a little shiny if you put it beneath the sun light. I was always happy when I was walking on MY secret beach, not any other beach, my beach. I always stood at the edge of the beach where the salty ocean water would come up and wisk away some sand. My mother would never ever let me go to the beach, or my beach, I would never obey my mother's rules. Every day at 5 o'clock after school I would go down to my beach for a little while. I woud just stand on the beach taking in the salty sea air. It was a minute or so from our house which was a very good thing. My beach has pure white sand, unlike the other beaches. My beach was special. I never have told any one about my beach, not even my grandma Ruth, or my grandma Helen. Even though they were my best friends. I haven't even told my BFF Vega yet. I know it's breaking mom's rules but still. 1. Don't go anywhere with out my permshion. 2. Never go into the study or my studio. 3. DO NOT touch the pastries. 4. DO NOT flirt with boys. 5. DO NOT PLAY MATCH MAKER. 6. Do not go to the beach, they're not sanitary. The list goes on and on, but those are the most important ones. Those are the rules that are so important, that if you break one my mom will freak out. That's why my beach is secret.I went to stand on the giant rock that over looks the tide pools, that have the purple starfish and sea urchins in them. I stood on the rock peering down into the tide pool. My life was pretty good. My mother (Maria Markson) was young when she got married (she was 27), when she had me she was 30, when my dad died she was 32. Now she's 43, not that old, really not that old! My mother and father started there own business in Williamsburg, VA called Royal Treats, it's a bakery. My mother loved my father so much that she made there wedding so beautiful that it got featured in a magazine! Everyone was talking about it. Three years later she had me! Dorothy Jennifer Markson, that's me! Two years passed and my father was out getting baby food (for me!) and he was coming home(it was dark out) and he all of a sudden dissappeared off the face of the Earth. That's what Susie Bee says, she saw what happened. He was just driving, Susie Bee blinked and POOF David John Markson vanished. After my mom, and grandma Helen (dad's mom) found out they cryed together for five days straight, or so my grandma Ruth (mom's mom) says. Ruth (grandma Ruth) is very cool and strange. She dies her shiny gray hair orange or blonde depending on her mood that day. When we go somewhere together, people would often stare and sometimes point. She stands out in crowds because of how tall she is (5 foot 4 inches) and her hair color. Ruth and Helen (my other grandma) live right down the road from us. I can visit them when ever I want. They work at the shop (my mom's shop, Royal Treats) and so do I, we see each other every day. My mom and I live in a small Cape Cod style house just a minute away from the James River's shore. That's where my secret beach is. moreResolved Question: Why am I not losing any weight!?

I'm thinking of booking a week long vacation this summer to Provincetown, Cape Cod. I have been looking on Home away.com And have found a few however, one of the rentals described provincetown as this: "Provincetown is a particular draw for gay and lesbians" from around the world but everyone can enjoy this small town that features shopping, dining, theatre and nightlife in a beautiful physical setting. The summers are mild because of the cool Atlantic Ocean. Herring Cove Beach is consistently ranked as one of the top ten beaches in the US. This vacation is geared towards kids... Im not sure how I feel about this statement? is it true that provincetown a particular draw for gay and lesbians? Cause if so then I will have to pick a different place to go. Idea's? moreResolved Question: How do you deal with a break up?
I am absolutely head over heels in love with a woman. We have only been together for about 3 years, but it has been the BEST 3 years of my life. Everything about her is perfect. We have spent so much time together, between sitting on the couch watching movies, family parties, weekend parties, hot tub and pool visits, cape cod, outer banks, new hampshire, beaches, restaurants, camping, live shows, concerts, plays, walks in the rain, Boston, and much much more, way too much too list. We have been through so much together, good times and bad times, the bad times I dont mind because with all good comes bad and she's is worth the world to me. We have talked about spending our lives together, growing old, retirement, everything. I am so crazy about her she is all I can ever think about. I want to spend the rest of my life with her, I am 110% positive that she is the one for me. We got in a big fight, and I mentioned to her how I didn't think she was interested in me (I wish I never said it) because she seams to get mad at me alot and annoyed at everything I do. There has also been a lot less “affection” towards me lately. We talked and she thought and basically told me that maybe I'm right and she has lost interest in me and that she wanted to take a break from me to make sure that I’m the right one for her. She’s just not happy with me. I do not think she would ever come back to me. I cried hysterically, and begged her not to leave me and she decided to stay with me. I don’t know what I would do if I lost her. I think that she just feels really bad for me so she is staying with me because she still cares and doesn't want to hurt me. She told me not to worry, everything will be ok. I just have this nasty feeling in my stomach still. I can't eat, I have puked a couple of times, and I just don’t feel like doing anything. Not even sleeping. I have a job interview tomorrow I was considering not going because I just feel like shit. I know that people say "you’ll get over it, there's a lot of fish in the sea, move on, blah blah" but in all honesty, I want to spend my life with her no matter what happens. No matter how much we fight or how mad she is at me. I am in love with her, I have never felt the feelings I do for her about any other woman, and I never will. She will always be in my mind. I don’t want to loose her I wish there was something I could do. Anyways, I am trying to prepare myself for a breakup. I feel like its already in her mind that she wants to break up, but again she just feels bad for me. If this is how I’m feeling now, I do not want to go through the actual break up. At least now we are still together and I have a chance to try and win her back. How the hell do you deal with a situation like this? moreResolved Question: Where is a good beach in cape cod for a small marriage ceremony?

Seeing the horseshoe crabs, then going down to the dunes and capturing the real crabs, the ones that run sideways, then bring them back to our house and let them run. We were 9, 10 13. It was so fun! We always go to Cape Cod for our summer vacation, but unfortunately this year my husband wasn't able to take time off from work until late September. We will be going up the last week of September along with our two children (ages 1 & 2). While we would normally go up and sit on the beach for a couple days I'm guessing the weather will be a little too chilly to do that, so I'm wondering if anyone can give us alternate ideas as to what we can do while we're there. I'm already planning a day to go biking on the rail trail, as well as a day in Provincetown and a trip to the Zooquarium, but other than that I'm at a standstill. Also, we'll be staying in Hyannis and I was wondering if this late into September the shops and things on Main Street are open on Sundays? They are pictured in promotional photos for Russian brides and adopting Russian children. Blue eyes like the sky and the sea. Blond hair. Healthy looking people. I am not sure what part of Russia these people are from. I met a girl visiting Cape Cod yesterday. A gorgeous blond. She said she was from Moscow. My friends are considering adopting from Russia and showed me the photos. Again, blue eyed blond children. Was this something that happened with the German occupations from World Wars One and Two, and the Austrian- Prussian occupations from the Germanic people? Is it more from migrations from Germany, Poland and Europe that these people migrated Eastward to Eastern Europe and Russia? Hitler and the Nazis dreamed of ethnic cleansing of Germany, wiping out the Jews and having a pure Aryan race in Germany. Now Germany is filled with immigrants from everywhere and has a growing Muslim population. The so called Aryans are in Russia. Beautiful looking people. Blond hair, blue eyes, very healthy and strong. This girl that I saw on the beach was build like a Goddess. She was 5 feet 11 inches tall. Curvy. And there were Russian men there too that looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Girls with big huge breasts and men with big muscles. It looked like one of those posters that Hitler had for his Master Race. Hitler had these illustrations drawn up with men with muscles, body builders and women with big breasts and they had the Nazi symbols. So that whole thing, the Aryan thing, has moved East to Russia. They are tough skinned. I was putting on sunscreen and this girl and her friends are just taking in the sun with no lotions and not burning at all. Tough, healthy. What part of Russia are these people from? One girl told me Moscow. Another tall blond woman said she is from Estonia.I took some photos of Mary from Moscow. You can see the photos and judge for yourselves. This girl is not bone skinny like fashion models. She is very curvy and big breasts and butt. A big girl like Ursula Andress or Marilyn Monroe. But the Russians on TV shows and in the movies are all short with black hair and dark eyes. Now I am seeing all these tall blond blue eyed people. I thought it might be some German blood. I guess I do have to study Anthropology. Either that or discuss it with a Russian woman over dinner. moreResolved Question: Where can I buy red lifeguard shorts?

Also, if you have any decorating ideas for this theme, let me know. I bought some bead board wall paper for the bottom half of the room. (it actually looks like real bead board when it's on). Okay, so next summer (i know, its early, but slots fill up fast!) i want to go to this camp called Overland. I can't decide which program i should go to. One is Cape Cod & the Islands, which is where we bike... well cape cod and the islands. (nantucket and martha's vineyard.)
