I was at the beach with some buddies a few days ago, huge waves and everything. After one particularly big kahuna I was forced to swallow some amount of ocean water. Usually it's not that big of a deal, but I was in Destin at the time, and there was some oil floating around. Our beach trip has been ruined...we were supposed to go to Destin FL but the oil spill has put a huge damper on that. So...we need to think of something else. We might still go to the beach (just a different one) but I also wanted to look at other options as well. What would be a good family vacation for us? It is me, my husband, our 2 boys (ages 8 and 2), and possibly my mother. Thanks in advance! We can't go to FL because they won't refund our deposit for the place we had already booked...we're not made of money so we have to find something closer to home and a bit more reasonable. We live in NC. moreResolved Question: Has the oil spill hit Panama City beaches yet?
If no, when will it likely hit there? I'm trying to plan a trip to the beach. Anyone know about the Destin area? moreResolved Question: Where should we go on our road trip?
My friend and I are looking into going on a road trip around the entire country (united states). Literally...around. We haven't quite finished the route yet (as you'll see from the photo) but we are pretty certain on what cities we want to visit. This will be roughly a month long trip, so we'll need a lot to keep us busy while driving. Of course we haven't decided on everything and nothing is set in stone yet. So what I'm wondering is: What are some really cool places along the route we've made that we could stop and see along the way? Are there any really awesome towns that we should drive through or somewhere we should stop and visit? All input is welcome! The following is a list of the cities we have decided on so far: We're starting in Michigan: Pittsburgh Ardsley/Westchester, NY (my birth place) Washington, D.C. Ashburn, VA (family spot) Virginia Beach Fayetteville, NC (family spot) Myrtle Beach Orlando, FL Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, FL (family spot) (We are NOT going to Key West) Destin, FL New Orleans Baton Rouge Houston Phoenix Los Angeles/Hollywood Las Vegas Portland Forks (Chyeah!) Seattle That's it so far. We still have to get home, but it's proving to be a bit difficult to find fun cities to visit on that part of the trip..yuck. Chicago is definitely on there though! Thanks in advance! Photo: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs062.ash2/36452_1521927368668_1249080020_1420732_6841957_n.jpg moreVoting Question: I need a quick fix for my ingrown toenail?
I have an infected ingrown toenail on my big toe (see: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00154), and I'm leaving for a week in Destin, Florida on Sunday, so I need this fixed and fast. It doesn't have to be perfect, just good enough for the beach for one week. I've been soaking it in peroxide and putting antibiotic ointment on it, but it is still red, puffy, pussy, and it bleeds a lot. It's very painful, and I really need to be able to enjoy this vacation. We were planning on going to Destin this weekend but they're already experiencing tarballs..so I think it's going to get worse by the end of the week. Someone mentioned something to me about Seaside beach..is that a whitesand beach? moreResolved Question: Should the Federal government sue/interfere when States or Communities take over and do the Fed's job?
No, I'm not talking about Arizona, though I might as well be. I'm talking about the oil spill. "When brown clumps of tar began to wash up on the snow-white beaches around Destin last week, the mood in this sunny beach community shifted from optimistic denial to furious worry. Local ideas about how to protect the area clashed with plans from BP, state and federal agencies. Community volunteers struggling to cut through protocol cheered a decision by Okaloosa County to defy BP and the feds. They were done waiting. They'd use their own plans. "This is ridiculous. We'll take the heat. We would do whatever it took to stop the oil," said the county commission chairman, Wayne Harris. After months of wrangling with agencies responding to the spill, Harris wasn't willing to stake the county's ecology and economy only on boom that captures or absorbs oil. The commission authorized emergency management teams to add skimmers, barges and extra boom, and an air wall they hope will push the oil away. They plan to layer prevention measures in the pass that connects the Gulf to Choctawhatchee Bay, where fresh and salt water mix and dolphins play. Harris said the plan could cost up to $6 million per month, which he hopes will be covered by money from BP. The county developed its oil plan in the days after the disaster began to unfold, but it was plagued by miscommunications, disagreements and bureaucracy once it left local hands, Harris said. Communities along the Gulf Coast have made similar complaints. Mayors grilled a BP official about the response during a press conference earlier this month. In Magnolia Springs, Alabama, locals went outside the federal plan and risked incarceration by adding boom and barges to protect Weeks Bay. In Pointe Aux Chenes, Louisiana, Native Americans pitched in to string boom near an island where many of their ancestors are buried. Harris said some of his county's efforts may work; others may not. "Doing something is better than doing nothing," he said." ""I'm sure they're cussing. I'm sure they're cussing us bad," Harris said. "If we had waited, we'd still be waiting. Why did it take us giving an ultimatum?"" http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/06/21/oil.spill.okaloosa.county/index.html?hpt=C1 moreResolved Question: I need a Good Honeymoon Hotel in Destin, Forida.?

And now I heard the oil has huge underground plumes which the currents are taking up to the Florida Keys, ! So I just got back from a 3 day vacation to Destin, FL. 2 of the days it was raining. Then yesterday I laid out on the beach and went on the lazy river outside for at least 6 hours. I put SPF 50 all over my body....except for my forehead, which seriously NEVER gets sunburned even tho I never put sunscreen on it. Well of course this time I got a horrible bright red sunburn on my forehead and nowhere else (which looks really silly). I asked the Target pharmacists what I should use. One said cetaphil moisturizer because aloe vera would clog pores. The other insisted that aloe vera is the best treatment. Does aloe vera really clog pores? And which one would help reduce redness the most? It doesn't hurt at all actually, so pain isn't an issue. Thanks for the help!ps- I'm 19. I get mild acne, which I spot-treat with Duac. My skin is very very fair, but pretty clear of acne for the most part. I have combination skin moreTop Destin Beaches Links
