Open Question: Saying "No" to a family vacation.?

My parents have been talking about going to Hawaii this summer but keep in mind it has only been "talk". I've expressed my lack of interest from the get go. Last night they sprung everything on me saying they had to book everything within a few hours. They GAVE me the option to decide whether I wanted to go or not. I politely told them no and that for some reason I don't think Hawaii is the kind of vacation I might enjoy. (I've never been a "beach person" and I do understand there is much more to do in Hawaii than go to the beach.) Aside from simply not having the desire to go, it is a lot of work for me to miss. I'll be working full time this summer and hopefully saving for a new car. I also have a dog that is my responsibility and therefore would have to put him up in a kennel. That will ding me about $250-300 for the time I would be gone. (My mom offered to help but my dad quickly shot it down because the dog is mine and not their responsibility. Which is fine.) The trip also falls on my birthday and for the last few years I've had to spend my birthday away on vacation and I feel like I have had no say on how my birthday takes place. They seemed to take everything just fine by giving me the whole, "You're an adult" spiel. Hours later they began to give me grief for my decision and my dad is trying to press it into an argument. This is the first time I've chosen to opt out of a trip. I'll be 20 once summer rolls around, by the way. I just don't think it is right to give someone to opportunity to make a choice and then give them hell afterword. I understand it is a disappointment to them and I do feel bad but they gave me the option, and I made the choice. I would gladly appreciate anyone's thoughts on my current situation. Maybe some of you have faced the same thing? I've already made up my mind so I guess I'm just looking for opinions on how to take this on. My dad gave me a grace period of 10 hours to "think" about it. Thanks in advance! more

Open Question: Is Hawaii gay friendly?

Specifically, the island of Oahu. I went vacationing there recently and have decided I'm going to move there next February. I didn't see anything really geared towards the gay crowd while I was there. Any suggestions on things to do/see once I move there? I went to several beaches, snorkeled in Hanama Bay, climbed Diamond Head and Stairway to Heaven, and spent most of my time on Waikiki beach, but never really saw anything over there geared towards homosexuals.To =cutebitch= : Obviously I recognize that some people aren't going to support it. I was kind of looking for a general concensus of the opinions of the people there. Ok so its my 2 year anniversary with my gf and her parents offered there timeshare to me to use and i was thinking about going to Hawaii for 7-10 days. We live in North Carolina. We will be spending our summer in Hawaii. Every two years we spend our whole summer in a few places. The other years- We stay home, we go one 1 vacation (small one), we go to places in the area and we play outside. This year- It is the summer where we spend time at a place for the whole summer. I am marrying this wonderful man who is 30. I am 26. He has two daughters ages 11 and 5. We are doing this- (EDIT: We will have another vacation, but it is split into two parts. We will spend Spring Break in Orlando doing nothing. We will miss one school week in May to go to amusement parks and different places. It is technically NOT our summer vacation.) This summer we are spending it in Hawaii. Except we will take tiny steps to get to each place at a time. We will be driving in a "fancy" bus to Tennessee. Nashville to be exact. We leave on June 10th. We will spend 5 days in Nashville. Getting horse back riding lessons, going to a dude ranch, going to a rodeo. It will be fun, especially the shopping. We will also drive to Pigeon Forge and go to Dolly World and one of those shows. And relax for 5 days before the big trip to California. Then on June 20th, we will ride to Oklahoma to go to an airport in the same bus. The bus is not like a school bus. It is like a tour bus, with comfy seats and lots of space. We will leave at around 4 in the morning and arrive at about 10 pm at night. We will spend 2 days at a hotel and rest, rest and rest. June 22, we will be flying to California. San Diego, to be exact. We will go to Sea World, Disney Land, Lego Land, and to the beaches. We will also spend 3 days in Los Angeles. We will go star hunting, go to the Chinese Theater and the walk of fame, we will go to the beaches. Then we will drive back to San Diego airport. June 30th- We will go to Hawaii. Maui. We will fly from San Diego, to there. We will arrive in Hawaii and settle in a hotel. In Hawaii we will go swimming, go to the beaches, get Hula Lessons, go to the spa, go scuba diving and everything in Maui. Even ziplining and going to a Luau. August 1- We will leave Hawaii. We will fly back to Mississippi and drive back. We will have our family car transported there. We will spend the rest of the summer going to different local places. How is this summer vacation? more

I don't wanna lose it super fast, I just wanna lose it haha I'm 5'9" and 175 lbs last I checked and NONE of that "extra" goes to my boobs or butt, I'm completely flat in both areas Most of it goes to my thighs/stomach, and I have these weird love handle things that make my hips look messed up. Resolved Question: What is the best mascara for swimming?

I moved to Hawaii and am now at the beach at least once a week. The only makeup i wear day to day is mascara and i will not go out without it but it always smears when I'm in the waves. I've heard of curling your eyelashes then using waterproof eyeliner on your lashes rather than mascara works well but i have yet to try that method. Any good mascaras that will actually withstand the water without smearing? more

I live in Ohio and I hate it. The snow, the overcast skies all the time, not many friendly people, and just plain boring. Both me and my bf both have careers in medical transcription making 25/hr and work from home. We can make our own hours and we are employed by a nationwide company so wherever we move we will still have our jobs. I have been doing research on moving to Hawaii and I want to know is it possible for someone like me to move there and live at least comfortably? Right now I live in a 3 br manufactured house on 2 acres of land in the country. I could live with a smaller yard that would be no problem. I am not a materialistic person I do well with basic necessities. I would be content just going to the beach or on a hike with my family. Is there anyone who actually lives in Hawaii that can help me? I haven't been to Hawaii yet but plan to visit next spring. Also, I have heard that the schools are awful. I do want what is best for my kids so that might be the only reason I don't move. Any advice??? Thank you! more

We are looking to stay 4-5 days one island only! Don't know what month, our scedule is very flexible. Money wise...we don't have tight budget, but then we are not rich. 3 star and above hotel/resort would work as long as it has the best crystal clear, white sandy beach/oh and clean hotel/resort with bar, pool, spa. This will be a one time life opportinuty for us. We are looking for a beautiful beach, white sand preferably. I love waterfalls, where alot is green. Seeing the whales would be nice, snorking is an intrest, not into kayaking, hiking. We want more of a relaxation place. Crowds don't bother us unless it's over crowed with alot...I mean a whole lot of tourists. Okay, So im 16 years old and I am going to Hawaii in the beginning of May. I am trying to be skinny before I go. I am not that big at all, I probably need to lose around 10 lbs to look real skinny but I want to go to Hawaii and be able to go on the beach and walk around in my bikini and feel amazing about it. I have thicker thighs, and more muscular arms and I hate that because im a girl. I am thick boned, and I love my thighs and everything. Hello I took a vacation in Hawaii and got burned pretty bad on the beach. ( I am already pale, so this didn't help) I was wearing no sun protection or anything like that, I was on the beach for about 45-55 minutes. Well, its been two days since i got burned and it doesn't hurt as much and is starting to itch(I assume that is healing). How much longer until this sunburn is gone completely? Everyone knows a quake has hit chile early this morning but now there is a Tsunami warning all around the west coast. It's on one news station and thats for Hawaii. I feel like they shouldnt even issue a warning here if they are not going to keep us up to date or have it on the news at least so we know what to think. I live right on the beach of oceanside CA and have no idea what to do or how serious it really is. The news can talk about tiger woods on 20 channels at a time but not a tsunami that could danger people's lives and property. I dont understand. What precautions should I take?
