Open Question: i'm torn about father issue, really battling... Please help with different perspectives?

so my dad lives in holland with his 3rd wife. I have seen him once in 11 years, i'm 18 years old now. But i don't know him. He was an alcoholic, and my mom was gay while my parents were married, so whether i'm really wanted is the question... But for now i don't know how much it'll hurt to see him, and then have to say goodbye again for who knows how long. And more importantly he's never done anything for my brother and i, never. His 3rd wife fills the typical role of a step mom. She locked my brother and i out of the house because we'd forgotten to eat breakfast before we went down to the beach... We were naked and freezing, then i'd cry cause i missed my mom so she'd throw anything in her reach at me, my favourite was my brother and i slept in a loft bed and at night they'd take away the steps so if my brother or i needed to pee we'd just have to hold it in. One night she made me eat ostrich liver, i told her i didn't want to but somehow she made me. So those are my first memories of my step mom, i was about 4-7 years of age during all of that stuff. Now my brother and i have to visit her before the end of this year because she's dying... She said she's holding on till she's seen my brother and i one last time. What do i do? Do i owe them for something... Or do i move on and forget them? more

Resolved Question: i was driven home by a very drunk man?

i'll try to make this very brief, I had been in my apt for a few weeks just kinda depressed you could say, more bored than depressed....so i live in these apts in holland michigan and the maintence guy here who has always been so nice, said "hey when I get out of work would you want to go for a quick beer?" I thought about it for a moment and thought ok? I haven't been out and he works here, how harmless could he be.... well he picked me up and started driving away from the little bar right up the street from the apts....he said no your to good for that...and oh every and i mean every 3-5 minutes he kept repeating "omg your so beautiful" "good your so beautiful" well guys for further information, once is enough more than that we feel very uncomfortable. I thought maybe he was just nervous. I had no feeling for him at all except as maybe a friend..... well he said we were driving to the beach "grand haven" which is only about 25 minutes from my apt, and he made a stop at a gas station he came out with a 12 pack, my eyes about fell out of my head....i said what are you doing...he was just like "have one" yada yada which I replied "i don't drink and drive" he still kept on with all the un-easy compliments and his very over-bearing personality, and at this point i had no idea where we were since he of course took all back roads... he drank those beers all 12 with in 15 minutes i swear..... so we get to this place in grand haven called "tip a few" he then ordered more beer, by the picture" so yes I did have a few beers in those small glasses which they give you with those pictures...he drank 4 more then getting nervous i stopped drinking, and i was amazed i have never ever seen someone drink a beer in one gulp, the whole fricken glass.....i was worried but not so worried because he wasn't acting that drunk.... then we ordered dinner and i thought great this will sober him up......still going on with the compliments then besides "oh your so beautiful, oh elizabeth i'd love to just spend the night with you i don't even have to have sex with you i just want to smell you all nite.....i mean over and over....in fact i told him to shut up nicely over and over!!!! I told him he was making me really uncomfortable..... so we start driving home from grand haven (the beach) all 60 miles an hour and it's getting dusk out and the roads were windy and just really dangerous besides the fact that he's going into head on traffic and over to the shoulder, i screamed for him to pull over he wouldn't i said i have to pee...so he gets out on the shoulder and he starts peeing right on the shoulder, right in front of the truck..... so i get in the passenger seat lock the doors...i am trying like hell to pull the seat up, it fricken wouldn't go up, it is one of those old stick shifts and my fricken feet wouldn't reach the peddles, i'm only 5'3 gosh i was so pissed i was crying. i let him back in and he doesn't even acknowledge why i'm crying...i beg him lets just call someone...and he's like no where just a couple of minutes from holland so i got back in like a jerk, i didn't have anyone to call not anyone, my family all lives either in vegas or chicago i just have my 3 kids here...I kept saying to him Joe my kids will be devestated if i die in a drunk driving, they need me he's goes NO THEY DON'T you just think so.....just rude ass stuff like that.... so he stops at a gas station and goes in i'm asking the 2 people pumping gas if there going to holland one ignored me and one said no....if i would have known where i was i would have just ran....but i had no money or nothing for a cab. so we get into holland he's falling asleep and getting worse by now because i think the alcohol is finally all getting in his blood stream.... guess what? he fricken goes to his house, i know i'm in hell now....he get's out starts dancing in his garage like all wasted i was so mad i can't even tell you, i said JOE I HAVE TO GO NOW. he's like hang on man....i said if you don't take me home now i'm walking,,,,so about 30 minutes later he takes me home asking if he can spend the night i'm not saying anything at this point just thinking of good defense attorneys because i can't imagine one of us making it out alive.... so we get to my apt, his place of work mind you....and the freak says "aren't you going to ask me up for a night cap" "i thought i was spending the night" I said "are you f@#king NUTS and i slammed the door...... well two days later i left for texas whatever, and got back 2 weeks later and he has the gull to yell at me and thanks for slamming the door on him...i was in shock so i say well thank you for almost killing me on the way home, he's like shh shh ya know wityou guys are so very nice and even nicer for having read that novel of me ranting forever...and I didn't even notice I didn't have a question lol..I was just so mad...and started "mad typing" sorry.... and "jaws of fur" I so would have forgiven him, if he would have come up to me the next day or so and apolized and what not, I would have done so for sure.....but when he "female dog" lol at me first, saying "thank for not inviting me up and slamming my door" then I was just fipped out...it was like an episode of the "twilight zone" ya know? and then when I found out he did the same thing didn't take her to get some out but she has a girlfriend if ya know what I mean, but that didn't stop him even being sober to say disquisting things to her...and she worked for the apts so they were co-workers.....then 1 more girl came forward same thing, he use's these cheesy ass lines....and it's not even like he's a good looking guy where u could over come that stuff lol....i'm just so angry,SORRY LAST THING; I STOPPED BEING ON HERE FOR A WHILE, BECAUSE THERE WAS SO MANY RUDE PEOPLE, SO THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING NICE......oh i guess my question would be, what should i do if that ever happens again???? there, lol more

Voting Question: how to deal with falling for my childhood friend that i have known since i am 6 yrs of age?

Long story:I have known this guy Alex since I have been 6,we played together,went to each other's b-day parties,him and I were close friends when young,I moved to the US halfway thru my 4th grade so we parted.I saw him 4-5 yrs after that and how he changed,then 4 yrs after that and 4 yrs later.Last time I saw him was in 2006 when I visited my grandparents,we hung out and struck a lot of conversations from philosophy to who knows what,he invited me to go clubbing with him,his sister and friends but I had to decline because of some reasons.I was also asked by him to go with his friends to a beach party but declined to due a dinner the same night as his beach party and finally him and I met up and hung out twice at at terrace.We had a great time,that was when my then bf and I were broken up.In 2009 my bf and I split up for good,I went to visit my grandparents this summer for 3 weeks,my mom's friend ran into his mom and gave her our cell # and next thing I know he is calling us.He wanted to meet up with us,my sister said no since she was the one answering the cell,I called him back and said yes since him and I always got along really well.Next day him and I hang out,he takes me to this nice terrace on the beach which is really posh,with lounge sofas to relax on and we had a great time for like 4 hrs.We laughed,had a great time and I somehow felt like time stood still like we conversed.He is the opposite of me:all daredevilish doing sking,snowboarding and hiking sports which I have not attempted to do,traveling to Spain,Slovenia and who knows where.His parents are both doctors,his mom is our family doctor and loves me so you get the idea.Anyways for the second time we were supposed to meet he already planned out to surprise me by taking me to his fave restaurant and already knew where to take me for dessert which sounded nice to me.He called at the last minute to cancel the plans(more like 4 hrs before we were supposed to meet) because he had some unbearable tooth pain.I had to go on a visit with my sister and see a friend then head out on the town but drop a gift from my parents to his mom.Next thing I know his mom thinks that I want to talk with her son which was not the idea,there was weirdness,he asks me if I had something to say,I could not look at him because I was put in a weird situation you get the idea.He added me to his fb friends and next thing I know we are messaging back and forth while I am trying to help him be a better person.His first message was written as an apology as to how there was misunderstanding abt whom I came to visit them he goes on to tell me how when we were discussing our conversation how he was enjoying my smile,laughter,me playing with my hair,you get the idea and a couple of paragraphs down he says how I should not take him or what he says seriously but rather enjoy it because when we see we relive childhood memories and what is there to be serious and not to change each other and to learn from each other and something about glancing at each other to spice up our different lives.That left me confused.I wrote him back about that,asked him how he sees me,my ideals,you get the idea and talked about change and next thing I know he writes me back a message about how he should drop his artistic persona and be a down to earth person if that is what I like or want.I never said for him to be that or implied that.He is studying in Holland for his Master,9 hrs away and in 2 days after I leave he decides "hey i want to change to what you like"..What the heck?Why?He sees me as a friend right and if so he should change for himself not me or his family...As for the tooth ache that was all true since when I saw him his cheek was all swollen and he was in imense pain.As for his messages I am confused.One of my childhood friends thinks that he wants to relive childhood memories when with me or get my attention or something which he does.Somehow along the way I fell for him because he has shown me respect,after we hung out he asked me "Can I call you" or "May I call you?" which is rare in today's society whhen guys say "Can I have your #?"...He seems down to earth and all nice maybe too nice...I like him,he wants to move to the US after he finishes his MA in CA which would be nice so he asked me questions about what to expect here and realized that he could visit me where I live anytime he wants...I wish I could ask him if he likes me the same way that I like him but I am afraid that he will say "Oh that is cute but do not that what I say or do seriously" or will laugh at my words when asked... more

Resolved Question: How could my brother be so happy with his life if he haven't accomplished much?

Lately I have been getting really frustrated with life. I have a college degree and work a respectable career. My husband has a master degree from an ivy league. We both make a very decent living. One of my brothers and his wife is in similar situation as well, but they have a daughter. So in the end, we feel like we’re living a dull life. But my oldest brother who is 32 is a kick boxer and a commercial diver couldn’t be any more opposite! He barely works for anything in his life. When he was eighteen, he moved to Thailand to do kick boxing for a couple years then lived in Korea, Holland, and Norway before moving back to USA at 27. Since he regularly fight oversea, travel a lot more than my whole family combined. He never has to pay a penny for anything besides hotel and food if he stays longer which he do at every opportunity. He works probably only 12 to 15 hours a week as a diver and train two to three hours a night five days a week. He shares a small three bedrooms beach house with a girl whose he’s not even in a relationship with. He pretty much bike where ever he need to go, borrow the girl’s truck if he need to, and owns all kind of fun things like seadoo, boat, and other things. He always seems to be so happy all of the time. It seems like as if the biggest decision he has to make in life is what to do for fun. He has never really had any responsibility, worries, or anything at all. Recently I tried to talk to him about how he have been living and suggested him that he could do better like have a family, buy a house of his own instead of co-own, or at least try to use time to help others or somehow do something for others. He just shrugs and says he couldn’t be any happier with his life and that he got everything he need. I can’t help it but feel so aggravated by this. I feel like he just got lucky and have everything he wanted without trying while I and others have to work really hard to get everything and still doesn’t seems anywhere as happy as him. more

I'm taking my 07 Pontiac G6 there to get my tire fixed/possibly replaced tomorrow. Its the closest dealership to me. The local Pontiac dealership went out of business. My front passenger side tire is flat and there is a donut on it now. I don't know if this is a good place to take it or not. I DO need to get it fixed as soon as possible though. I know to ask to have them check the alignment just in case. (My husband was there when the tire was flat) Are there any other questions/concerns I should have? While spending as little as we can, we have around $1000 but are saving more. Me and my mother(ages 28 and 58) are looking to go on a nice relaxing cruise. I don't want the party ships our main interests are the swimming pools and good spas, good food, and the best beaches and snorkeling at the best islands in the Caribbean. This will probably be in the fall Sept-Oct. We do want at least a week if not a few days more. I do not want to go to Mexico, Jamaica, or the Cayman Islands. We are mostly interested in the Easter or Southern Caribbean. Also we are looking into either Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity, Holland America, or Norwegian Cruise Line. I don't think I need your help to forget him, just wanna share this story of mine which my Christian friends will think is not moral... I met this guy in a night club by the beach. He was a Westerner, young, handsome and tall. He was only 21. I am an Asian girl, I am 19. Well we both were relatively drunk but still very conscious (at least I was!). I noticed him from afar while sitting on the beach and he walked to me and we had a brief conversation. Needless to say, I was knocked out by his looks (and I am not in anyway a perverted girl!). 5 minutes later we danced and 5 minutes later we kissed!!!! There were 3 French kisses, 1 normal kiss and 1 brief kiss (too many kisses!). They were my first kisses... I didn't feel anything at all (wasn't in love with him). Anyway that was the end of the night as something happened right after that. It was a good memory and I didn't think I would ever remember him. Guess what? I saw him again the next day! 4 me it was a little of both,commercially it was good,now artistically it was a big step backward.the reason why:at the time "endless summer was released,the beach boys were on the verge of breaking free of the "surfer"image they created over a decade earlier,their previous album "holland" was one of rolling stone's top 5 albums of 1973 and it also got the beach boys a lot of airplay on underground and alternative radio stations.when "endless summer" came out whatever forward artistic progress the beach boys made from 1966-1973 kind of went out the window because all everybody wanted from the beach boys was the old stuff,hence why a lot of the new material that came out after "holland" pretty much tanked,with the exception of 1976's "15 big ones"and the only reason that did as well as it did was because it rode on the residual popularity of "endless summer". more

My spouse and I have been discussing this for a while. We both make good money and we've saved wisely, so we can afford a decent home, and since we both love Michigan, we've been focusing mainly on the Holland/Saugatuck area. Do you think we'd be better of near Holland or closer to Saugatuck? Saugatuck seems like a more charming area while being a short distance from two great beaches (Douglas and Oval), while Holland is also a short distance away from less spectacular beaches but has more to offer in terms of shops et-cetera. more

This is not a question. I just want to shout to the whole world how much I love the U.S. I was born in Brazil. I lived in the U.S for 11 years. Now I live in the Netherlands with my Dutch partner and our daughter, but my favourite countries are Brazil and the U.S. Especially the U.S. It was not always "flowers" living in the U.S. , but life is hard no matter where you go... The fact is that living in the U.S is much better than in Holland. There is prejudice, racism and racial profilling everywhere in the world, but it was much easier living in the U.S. I went through all that there as well, but in Holland it is way too hard to be a foreigner. People are always mentioning your skin collor, "she is dark", and they find it normal to mention it all the time that people are dark. There is a very visible line between the Dutch (white, with Dutch names) and foreigners(those with dark skin, also those born in Holland with non-Dutch names). There is a real apartide happening here. People just don't mix. There are all types of programs on T.V about how immigrants don't want to integrate in the Dutch culture, learn the language, etc... All programs about foreigners have a very negative way of portraying foreigners....It is hard to find a job if you have a foreign name. Dutch is a very difficult language, but even if you speak the language, with a thick accent (majority of foreigners have a thick Dutch accent), you have a hard time fiding a job. This is not like the U.S. When I lived in the U.S, I noticed that Americans talked a lot about foreigners who didn't try to learn English, but it was still easy for a foreigner to find a job there; all they had to do was prove that they could do the job. I worked a department store with an Iranian woman who spoke very bad English, but she was one of the nicest and best sales persons at the store (in Palm Beach Gardens, FL). ....I just hope to be able to live in the U.S one day... I also wish that there was no prejudice in the world, no racial profiling... It really hurts. more

I'm planning to fly from the middle east to the caribbean to hang out with my Dad (he'll be flying from central US). my 10 year old daughter is going to national cheer competition in grand rapids this coming July!! we will be there for 3 days her competition is on saturday and we'll probably get out around 2pm. friday we have planned-2 hour mandatory practice w/the coach from 9a-11a. afterwards, we are headed to the amusement park about an hour away. we'll return to holland beach at 7p for a photo shoot that I scheduled to have beach photos taken what should we do saturday after the competition? we might head back to chicago (where my bf has family-that is where we are flying into the wednesday before competition then i'm driving to grand rapids early friday am) on saturday evening but if we don't-things to do sunday too? thanks in advance!!!have to go to holland beach b/c this is where the photographer takes all her photos-i've seen her blog and the pics are beautiful more

Resolved Question: Can I do caricatures on a public beach or boardwalk, specifically in Grand Haven or Holland, MI?

I'm wondering this because I'm a caricature artist (like you see at theme parks) and am interested in making a little extra cash this summer by doing caricatures near the beaches and on the boardwalk. I'm independent; I don't work for a company. Are there laws or regulations that would prohibit this? Would I be asked to leave, mainly, but also are there certain areas that it is allowed (like in front of a store with permission from the owner,) or conditions I would have to follow? Theres five times (Friday Evening, Saturday Lunch, Saturday Evening, Sunday Lunch, Sunday Evening), five countries (England, Germany, Holland, Scotland, and Sweden), five bands (Dixie Four, Dixieland Serenaders, New Orleans Joymakers, Not so Hot Five, and the Red Hot Stompers), and five venues (Beach Hotel, Civic Hall, Theatre, White Lion, and Winter Gardens). I'm going to all these concerts, and I need to find out which band from which country played at which time at which venue. The clues given are: 1. I'll listen to the Dixie Four from Holland as the same day I'll be at the Civic Hotel. 2. The sunday lunch time concert will take place at the White Lion. 3. I'll hear the New Orleans Joymakers at the next concert I have tickets for after the one at the Beach Hotel, which itself is not the next one I'll attend after hearing the band from Sweden. 4.
