Open Question: Feedback for characters?

Only got one reply for this question but...oh well, here goes... just some characters from an upcoming Avatar story no big deal. But could use some feedback: Tess Henderson- Mostly runs errands such as getting coffee for example. Tess is a typical red head and part time journalist from Chicago. She's rather even tempered and surprisingly gets along with Parker Selfridge. When she's not on the job, Tess writes short stories and reads 'Digital photography for dummies' Often times Tess starts up a conversation when things get quiet; which has worked a few times. Interests: flowers, kittens, B.L.T. sandwiches, playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles. Actress of choice- Cassidy Freeman(Tess Mercer-Smallville season 8-9) Gen- Found wandering outside the fence, Gen's parents were taken in and shipped to earth. Some time later Gen was born at a wildlife reserve outside of Tokyo. Having spent most of his life around humans he's rather friendly towards them. Gen's name is actually 'Gin' which is Japanese for silver but due to a typo on his I.D. tag his name is spelled with an 'E' in the middle instead of an 'I'. Gen's stripes are also more silver/gray than dark blue, his hair is diluted black; he also has bi-color eyes. His left eye is blue and his right one is yellow; he also speaks both Japanese and English. Though he might look scary he's been described as being an 'overgrown house cat'. Interests: Running, shrimp, watching the sunset, dragonflies and doing word search. Actor of choice-Jackie Chan Mara- Unlike Gen's parents Mara's are 'domestic'(i.e. like dogs, cats,etc...). Born at a kennel in White plains, NY, Mara has been around humans since she was only a few minutes old. Although she's been mistreated by some of her handlers. As a result she is afraid of people and will either run with her tail between her legs or growl. Mara is mostly on the quiet side but once she's gotten to know certain people she will speak up and enjoys being rubbed behind her ears. Though Mara has black hair and yellow eyes one thing makes her stand out is she has spots like a leopard instead of stripes. Her ears also flop instead of standing up.Mara also has a tendency to chase her tail. Though she is rather jumpy at times she's somewhat even tempered and quiet for the most part. Interests: Watching the sunrise, crickets, steak and playing checkers. Actress of choice-Sabrina Labeauf (The Cosby show) Rita Makaba(Pronounced 'Ma-kay-ba')- Like Mara, Rita's parents are domestic; born and raised in Southern California. Although they interacted with humans on a daily basis, Rita and her parents weren't allowed to go ut in public. When she got older Rita took a course in para legal. Rita's eyes are green and her hair is black as well as her ears. She and Mara also have paw print shaped brand marks on their upper left arms(basically they were branded). When excited or happy she wags her tail(like a dog). Rita is easygoing but has her moments where she 'tells it like it is' she also likes dogs. Interests: Dogs, watching TV, walking on the beach and chocolate(tried it once). Actress of choice- Tichina Arnold(Everybody hates Chris) Richer- A red and white blue eyed siberian husky owned by Norm Spellman. Richer is a show dog from Sna Francisco but hasn't been to a dog show in a while. He's a friendly, outgoing and playful young dog but once in a while trips over himself or gets his collar caught on something like a hook for example. Although he is a husky he prefers sitting on the couch over pulling a sled. Interests: Fetch, watching TV, milk-bones and listening to Ray Charles albums. Voiced by: Cedric the Entertainer(he's done several movies including Maurice the lemur in Madagascar) That's just a few but could use some feedback, another character that's up for consideration is listed below: Kona(At first it was a nickname but then it stuck after a while), she mostly goes by Kona since almost anybody she meets claims her real name is 'a mouthful to pronounce'. Kona is also the dominant female/leader of the eastern sea clan(the one in the pink dashiki in the scene where the group is introduced). Though Kona is pretty laid back she does manage to keep a straight face when she needs to. She's friends with Awakey(aka the horse clan leader). Kona has also taken a liking to Raggae singers such as Bob Marley, Sean Paul and Shaggy as well as Patti Labelle, due to listening to Norm's Ipod(more than once).Parker Selfridge and a few others sometimes call her 'Pink panther' mostly as a joke. Interests: Hiking, walking on the beach, sleeping, chocolate(got a hold of a hersey bar) and dogs. Actress of choice- Dawnn Lewis(A different world) Still don't know about adding Kona to the storyline but she's not the only character being considered. But could use some feedback on the ones here. What do you think? more

Open Question: Which MAC makeup products are worth buying and are must haves?

I don't wear alot of makeup and when I do, I try to keep it as simple as possible. I own some MAC eyeshadows (woodwinked, naked lunch, all that glitters, corduroy, star violet, graphology, da bling), Cream colour base in shell, studio fix powder, and fluidline in black. Just got paid and am thinkin of goin to MAC and splurging a bit. I have sooo many things on the list but I want to cut it down w. what I REALLY need and what i'll really use. * Brushes: PLEASE don't get me too worked up on it b/c their brushes are great but super expensive. I have a foundation bush fr. clinique, i have a concealer brush i use fr. bare minerals. blush brush i just got fr. target, i do own a eyebrow brush (fr. MAC) for my eyeliner, and all my eyeshadow brushes are random cheap ones. I don't wear eyeshadow too often but when I do, it's neutral. - BLUSH: never got MAC blush, not sure if it's good for my skin. I have a combo oily and combo skin. I was thinkin of getting "pink swoon" since i heard it was a good neutral pink for everyone BUT i have been wanting a light brownish blush that would go well w my beige skin. Reccommendations? - CONCEALER: I have a sample of the studio sculpt concealer and seems to working okay. I moisturize ALOT before putting it on....deciding if I should get it...it does make a good eyeshadow concealer too but not sure how it will work when summer hits. - EYESHADOWS: i've got my eye on: *SATIN TAUPE* (love neutrals), sketch, nocturnelle, beautiful iris, and sumptuous olive...but not sure if it's important to get. ALSO...that new beach collection is coming up....HELP! Should I get that concealer or buy brushes...return my "cream colour base in shell" to get my concealer? I use it to highlight my face but it gets too sparkly sometimes but heard it's pretty in the sun...HELP!My studio fix powder is NW30 more

Voting Question: PLEASE. Need opinion on poem NOW? What can I do to make it better?

The main reason i'm writing this poem is for English, and the requirements are that you need 5 or more poetic devices and they must be used effectively. In case you forgot the poetic devices, here's a list: Simile, Metaphor, Imagery, Personification, Hyperbole, Onomatopoeia, Alliteration, Allusion, Paradox, Understatement, Assonance, Consonance. I tried using Simile, Metaphor, Imagery, Personification, and Onomatopoeia.. see if you can identify them. Title: Ocean of Dreams Whoosh, Whoosh, the wind blew in my ear, singing sweet songs i've wanted to hear, What is the meaning of love? A world filled with nothing but hate, Oh, it's such a disgrace. All is forgotten as I walk on this path, devils' sing and hold a fury wrath. I walk along this beach at night, ripples of water glisten in the moonlight. The rush of waves hit the sand, the wind weaves across the land. Shafts of star lights flit like stolen dreams, dark houses watch carefully, silently. The wind blows faster now, you could blow away, but I don't worry, because I know i'm safe. Time to leave my hiding place, But i'll come back without a trace, no one will know where I have gone, But I will know where I belong. CRITICISM NEEDED! I need this poem to be the best and get an A, because it's a major grade. In case you didn't know, this poem is about a girl who has a hiding place, where she escapes and thinks about the world. The wind and ocean calm her down, and the ocean washes away her thoughts. She belongs here and this is her home. I know it doesn't make sense, I really only slapped something together, so please... comments.. anything, I need all the help and opinions I can get. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Disney's Port Orleans-French Quarter or Riverside?

My husband and I are planning our 4th trip to disney, and we have never stayed at one of the moderate resorts. We want to stay a little longer than usual, so we decided to try one out! I already posted a question about Coronado springs and Caribbean beach resort, but now I am going back and fourth between POFQ and PORS. Has anybody stayed at either resort, if so, what did you think of your stay? If you have stayed at both, which did you prefer? Did one have a better bus situation than the other? Any suggestions for building locations to request at either resort? Please list pros and cons of each. One think that scared me was that I read that port orleans-riverside had a lot of little critters and that would creep me out completely! lol Thanks for your help! more

Resolved Question: Should we go to Salamanca, Valencia or Marbella Spain?

I am going to Spain with some friends the summer of 2011. I know it's early, but I like to plan ahead. We are going to Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastian, Sevilla, Granada and Mallorca. We'll be doing a little road trip. We will have an extra night or two to hit up one more location. I am not sure where to go. I am thinking between Salamanca, Valencia or Marbella. We will only have one day and night. Is there any one city that would be best for us? A place that is easy to get around and has a lot to see. I also wouldn't be opposed to a nice cute beach area where we can relax. I'm open to anything. Even a place I didn't list. Any thoughts?I guess I should explain some things. I am aware Mallorca is an island. I've been there before. I plan on driving from Barcelona to San Sebastian/Bilbao. From Bilbao we will fly to Sevilla, then drive to Granada and anywhere else we go. I was going to fly to Mallorca from Barcelona or Valencia (if we went there). I won't be driving around the entire country, mainly the north and then south. Salamanca does not really fit into where we will be driving, but I keep hearing great things about the area. Valencia or Malaga area might make more sense with where we will be driving. more

Resolved Question: Is it OK for missionaries to ask for more money than their donors make? Or should they get jobs?

I just got an email from a Christian friend of mine, letting everyone on their list know that they (the couple) is moving to Cocoa Beach, Fla., and the husband is going to do mission work there and in Nicaragua. (As with many Christian couples, the wife doesn't work.) But they say they are in need of financial help, to the tune of $70,000. Since when did charitable work demand so much money for the "volunteers?" I'd love to do charitable work in Florida and Nicaragua. Sounds like a dream. And I'd love to earn $70,000 to do it--I'm happy to work for the money. Frankly, I'd just be happy to make 70K working at any job right now. That's more than my current take-home pay. Since these missionaries are asking for money for our help, shouldn't they perhaps try to curb their lifestyle to the same or less than that of the people whom they are asking for money? This is not an indictment of mission work, so please don't drone on about the value of mission work. I'm merely questioning the logic of getting rich off doing it.The 70K is for his personal salary. They are also asking for more money for the projects. more

Voting Question: I take doryx(acne med) and i am going to the beach in about a week?

im hoping to get a tan, but doryx increases photo sensitivity and i dont want to get burned im fair skinned except in the summer, but i rarely get burned, even without sunscreen, but i wear low spf normally ((before starting doryx, which i started in january)) i remember my dermatologist saying that before summer we would talk about getting off of doryx to protect my skin but i havent been back recently to talk about it for spring break and my next appt. is afterward would it reduce my risk of being burned if i stopped taking it the rest of this week and didnt take any until next friday when ileave to go to the beach and don't take any while on vacation?...i sort of take it sporadically anywho, im not very good with commmiting to medication...and im kindof against most types of meds, especially ones with side effects lists like the one for doryx, so i normally take one every other day, and it still has helped my acne....anyway, since i dont take it as often as prescribed, do you think the risk of photosensitivity is lowered? more

Voting Question: Spring Break question!?

Hi! I'm planning on going to a beach somewhere for spring break. I don't really care where it is, i just needa get a tan! And i want to visit a pretty beach at the same time:) airfare isn't an issue, my dad works for an airline company so we get flights for free. I'm also 15, and would be going with my dad and possibly a friend. No passport. So, my question is what would be some of the prettiest, most inexpensive beaches to go to? And if there are some other cool places to go that don't include a beach, you can list those too:) Thanks for all your answers in advance!:) more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my story so far? its only the introduction?

It was a stupid mistake, really. My sunglasses seemed to settle into the groove of my nose so pleasantly in the precise moment I kissed Tucker Hope. That little tidbit of information was all that I can remember of that sunny day, besides my lips being plastered to his in such a way that it took copious amounts of effort not to project vomit all over Tucker’s sunglasses. “Are you okay?” Tucker mumbled as his hand moved from below my waistline to my face. This gesture, of which humans generally think of as compassionate, felt like a small anvil was being deposited onto my cheekbone. I cursed Mrs. Hope in my mind and her uncanny desire to stuff Tucker like a star football player. Reverting to cavewoman-like tongue, I grunted what I thought sounded like a “yes” into the spit gland-encased cavern known as Tucker Hope’s mouth. He then returned to his roots as well and used his crusty caveman tongue to its full extent. I could not stop thinking about anatomy. That’s another thing I can remember perfectly about that day; how I contemplated ulcers and aortas like they were the stars of Gossip Girl. It was almost like the gorgeous Tucker Hope wasn’t right in front of me, kissing and holding me passionately on the beach on a relaxing day of June. It was almost like I wasn’t enjoying it. I wasn’t. I know, it was spoiled of me, I assure you. And I also suppose I remember quite a lot about that day, I just didn’t want to tell you about it. It is kind of embarrassing that a four-eyed recently updated to contacts B-average student besides her outstanding A in English sort of kind of a loser was bummed about Tucker Hope’s lip-locking abilities. “Blay?” I hated that nickname. My name is Blair. That’s it. “Yes, Tuck?” “I’m sorry, but it’s burning. Icecream? My treat.” He smiled, and I thought I was looking at a toothpaste ad. I wondered why in the world he’d want to sugar up his perfectly white teeth with plaque-encrusted Rocky Road, but I consented. I licked the icecream. He watched. I bit a small bit off the cone, because it was falling off. He watched. I watched him. He looked away. Peering coolly behind my oversized sunglasses, which I had still not taken off even though we were indoors, I could see that Tucker was just a typical sixteen year old boy with raging hormones. The minute I looked away, I could feel him staring blatantly at my chest. I don’t really know the phrase to describe the feeling I felt when he did this, other than really weirded out. While being careful not to lick my icecream in any sexual way whatsoever, I tuned out his blabbing about surfing and reflected on the date. It was a stupid mistake, really. “Blind dates never turn out well. Especially if the man is sexual” (my mom). If I can’t find a better title for this book by the time I’m done with it, I am going to title it that quote. My best friend Casey had set me up with him, assuring me that he was the best of the best. I had fretted about this day for months, and even plastered my binder with little hearts labeled “Tyler” at school. It’s not just that Tucker was a horrendous kisser, or that he had sexual thoughts. I’m not that shallow and I’m not that mom-like to dump him for those two reasons. But I am Blair-like, because the reason I dumped him the following day over texting was completely and utterly Blair-like (as Casey would call it). He was boring. Tucker Hope hated literature. He hated poems, books, and absolutely anything about Emily Barrett Browning. The boy despised Charles Dickens, for God’s sake, there must have been something wrong in that frontal lobe of his. There I go with the anatomy again. Making brain analogies? Very Blair-like. I must say that I am definitely an individual, seeing that not many 15 year old teen girls like to curl up and write poems in their free time. This goes without saying I am not proud of it. I made a list the other night of things I should look for in a husband when I’m older. I decided to do this now at age 15, because when I’m older and searching for a mate my mind will probably be distorted with adult things such as alcohol and work, and my brain won’t function properly. Then I’ll end up marrying someone like Tucker Hope. When I wrote that sentence, I’ll have you know that I shuddered like a wet dog trying to dry itself off. But I will keep it there, I guess. It’s not like this book of my sophomore year of high school is anything to be proud of, either. I wrote it simply because I am Blair. I have probably written poems or stories about every personal experience I’ve ever encountered, from the experiences of counseling at Camp Oakak to the little robin’s nest I discovered over my bedroom window. But hey, here it is. Read it. Laugh about it. Cry about it. Do what you want with it, just don’t tell me what. Chapter 1 more

Resolved Question: which girl would u choose.. Guys only... 1 or 2?

Both 18 girls. would you choose a girl who is loud, likes to party on the weekend, who enjoys the beach, who drinks, just basically the things that teenagers call 'fun' and yeah also have a good personality. or A girl who is funny, smart arse (in a funny way) likes clubbing but don't drink, barely go to parties, enjoy cooking, love to exercise/passion in health & fitness and also have a good personality. P.S I'm the 2nd girl. I like clubbing (as i enjoy dancing a lot) but i never been drunk and i don't think it's on my 'to do' list either. I love cooking and I have a passion for it. I love fitness and health. I tend to just work out on the weekend instead of drinking or going to parties. I'm pretty sweet and funny and yes I'm also a smart arse. Would you date a girl who is just like me? Sorry to asked this question just thought of it. more
