Resolved Question: Beach: El Nido or Boracay?

No doubt Boracay is really beautiful. It is the crowning glory of the Philippine tourism. Its the most beautiful beach in all Asia although Phuket and Bali are more popular even when it has been said that its only rivals are the beaches in the Carribean. But what about El Nido? Doesn't it deserve such attention as Boracay? Do you think its being underrated? Because i think its the most beautiful beach in the Philippines. What you think? -- Via MebApp.com more

Resolved Question: Im planning to move to palawan...?

Basically, I am a Filipino living and working in the UK and it seems that I have no future here. I work full time though saved a bit of money and travelled a bit but is it gonna be like this?. I am getting older so I have to think of my future seriously. I want to live with purpose so I just thought to buy/or build a house in Palawan. I am originally from baguio City but my husband prefers to live in the lowlands/near the sea/beach. Now, question: Is this a sensible idea? Is there a business opportunity in Palawan? or can I get a job there? I have been searching the net but there is not much information on the economic side but loads of information for tourists. By the way, Im thinking of doing business related with tourism. If I do this, atleast I have a sense of purpose and there is something to look forward to even if I come back to the UK and work. Any input is much appreciated. more

Voting Question: My Mom Is So Unfair. I Need Help Please.?

My mom is unfair. I live with my mom and my two little siblings. I'm the oldest being 17. I think my mom just hates me. I have a boyfriend that I've been dating for a year and 6 months. He's amazing and I love him to death but my mom hates him. But anyways my lil sister and brother always get what they want. Especially my lil sister she's 15 . She has a phone .. I don't. I asked my mom if I could go to the beach with my boyfriend and his family about a month ago. She said no after I cleaned the entire house. Her excuse for not letting me go was because she doesn't accept my boyfriend's culture and because Im too young. (He's Filipino born here in the U.S) Now, my lil sister asked my mom yesterday to go to the beach with her boyfriend and his family today. She said yes. And my sister. Didn't even clean the house or Nothing and she's 15! And she left this morning at 7a.m Now its 9:00 pm and she's not back yet. I had to stay home taking care of my little brother and cleaning while my mom went out with her boyfriend too. After I asked my mom if I could go out with my boyfriend. She said no. And when my mom left with her boyfriend she locked me inside the house. (We have an alarm system, she doesn't give me the passcode to turn it off) because she thinks I'm going to leave. She's so unfair. She never let's me go out. I always have to stay cleaning while everyone else is out having fun. I'm not happy like this. Can someone help me please. more

Resolved Question: do you think this concepts for the Philippine environment are overrated?

"consume salt the american standard way" i would say, true if the climate is cold. But I hear it often to use less salt when the weather here is hot. In the ME,some are even required to take salt tablets . Of course, when health is concerned,it is under doctor's advice. "enjoy the beach during summer" whoa! I would rather go into a hot spring, some mountain or pool resort under the shades during summer. Except during the rainy and very cold seasons, it is better to go to the beach than summer. So hot in there and the UV from the sun is very dangerous to the eyes. But for scuba diving or snorkling, summer time is good because it is so beautiful with the very clear water. more

Resolved Question: Bf keeps bringing up ways to hurt/kill me?

I am a bit disturbed at the moment. I am a 21 year old Filipino Christian woman, and my boyfriend is a 21 year old Indian Sikh man. He and i have been dating for about 9 months now (I'm his longest girlfriend) and he refuses to tell his family about us, and refuses to meet my parents. I had noticed though, throughout our relationship, and it had just recently been brought up to my attention, that my boyfriend will say little things in relation to hurting or killing me. For example, sometimes when he hugs me from behind, he will just randomly say "You know I could break your neck like this and you would die". Another time we were parked underneath the bridge where we always go for walks by the beach and he randomly said out of nowhere "You know if I drive into that stone wall, i could kill you". And if i don't feel like fooling around (we have never had sexual intercourse; just oral and manual sex), he will physically keep pushing my head down to the point of where i tell him that it hurts but he doesn't stop. And if he holds my neck, trying to push my head down his pants, he'll say again "You know I could easily snap your neck like this". I grew up pretty sheltered in an all girls private school in both elementary and high school. Am I just being too sensitive about this? Because every time I've told him that it bothers me, he just laughs and says I'm being too sensitive and he was just joking. Am I being overdramatic? He is currently in India with family visiting his sick grandmother from March 1 - April 13. If that's even relevant. more

Resolved Question: Good Philippine Beaches Near Cities?

Hi, We're an Australian couple in our 30's who moved to lovely Boracay about 3 years ago. We love Boracay but really miss the city life (business networking, friends, theaters, shows, shops). We'd like the best of both worlds. Beach + city. So we'd like to live somewhere in the Philippines right on a beach but still within 1-2 hours drive of a major town/city. Is that possible? The beach doesn't have to be as awesome as Boracay, but somewhere nice, clean and swimable. Must have good internet connection as we run a software company. The ultimate would be a nice beach a couple of hours away from Manila. Or Cebu might be an option but I didn't like the fake man-made beaches on Mactan. Please.... any recommendations welcome. Salamat Po, Martin more

Resolved Question: Why are land owners asking so much for their land in Samal Philippines?

I have been looking at land prices in Samal at first glance i said yeah it should be high, the beach is right there. then i looked closer and saw that the roads or terrible, part of the island floods, habal habal (taxi) guys are very crooked and unregulated, NPA rebles are across the island (and yes they have attacked samal in the past), you can't legally own the land your self if your not filipino, people stare at you alot which is somewhat scary, i even heard of a case where a guy bought a land, beach front but could not get the squaters people off his land then the judge gave the land to the squaters, but when i look online at properties in davao area the samal land or asking lots of money, i started asking why? is this is a bubble market, a bunch of people buying the land for investment hoping to sale it later for more money (this is what happen in US that cause market to go down), one reason i think this is look at oceanview or aplaya no one is building anything yet, the one house at oceanview has been for sale for years, so here is my question are the land in samal selling? are they selling for the asking price? why are the prices so high if there not selling? is it only investor that are buying? more

Resolved Question: How much stuff should I pack for my month long trip to the Philippines, and Singapore?

Yes, i am filipino. Anyway, I will be in the Philippines for 5 weeks, and in Singapore for one week. I have been to the Philippines before, so I know what to bring already, just not how much! Last time i went there, (we stay in mindanao/davao with family) i OVERPACKED. I dont want to do he same mistake like last time.. its humid in the Philippines, but not always sunny. it rains at times, but the air is still heavy. we'll be at our home there and beachhouse and loft, so we will be around in islands. at the beach, and zoos. how much shorts, dresses, shirts, pants/jeans, pajamas, etc should i take? i dont want to over or under pack, although we will most likely buy clothes there.. but if we were NOT to buy any clothes, what is a reasonable amount i should pack for about 6 weeks? dresses, shorts, pants, shoes, underwear, socks, pajamas, etc. Thanks so much!(: more

Resolved Question: Is it diplomatical alright to develop the Spratley's Island now?

The Spratley's island are being disputed by neighboring countries like Vietnam,China, Japan and the Philippines. But as far as we are concern we are the rightful owner of these island(s) and within our territorial boundaries. Develop in the sense to built infrastructure, housing and beach facilities, fishing and natural resources facilities under the Philippine flag. Because if we are not going to touch this islands and probably do this in 25 years to come we might not get the chance of owning this islands in the first place. They are probably annexed by China or Vietnam or Japan in 25 years. One thing I notice about Pinoys or Filipinos is that they are too slow in deciding or thinking about things right in their lap or in front of them. We always want a wake up call everyone now and then. I am a Filipino but I do not think like this, that is why I thought about this and this was abandoned by the Marcos regime way back in the 1960's. If we had done something by then I do not think we are now in this crossroads. I also believe this islands are going to be a tourist spot for the Philippines and will generate more income with that of Palawan and the Subataha reef. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: Foreshore lease, how often must payments be made?

In bidding on government property, specifically beach property, is the lease amount one bids to pay a one time payment for twenty five years, once a year, or once a month? filipinos just looove empty boasting,....they boast all about anything! as in the best tourist spot, the best people, the most talented in the world, the most beautiful, the best sportsmen,..yada yada yada,...but of all the beaches, filipina nurses money pakyaw and charice pekpek ko,..i haven't have heard anything that pridefully rants about the squatter's areas,..i have found out that one of the greatest shame that a regular loud-mouthed pinoy would be.. is perhaps to talk about the poverty in this country, its one way of keeping him quiet like a dumb dullard or a loud raving machine that is like possessed with demon of stutter in way denying or thinking that its all a matter of defending against the criticism,..but based on my observation the squatter's area can all be quite a world class,. worthy of taking pride even to the most simpleton of pinoys!, for example its the art! i can encounter JUNK ART creativity in the squatters area , i mean just look at those houses made out of cardboard, corrugated iron, or those driftwood that you may have thought that its all junk, rarely do i find such creativity and beauty, with the ugliness of dilapitated form anywhere in the world!, and im talking about art!,...CONCEPT ART is another discovery of mine,..just like junk art,..but mostly it is all about the people's posings and body arts rather than the raw materials which is on the junk art, which can also be called as INSTALLMENT ART, concept art you say?,..just look at those bare chested rogues!, aint there dragon and gangster tatoos nice?,..and notice the children as well!, with the lack of clothing and the basic necessities of life, their bodies have shown the art, which is about poverty of the dirty black color with lots of shades of brown, mucus and phlegmatic greens!, due to the fact that filipina women are great assets in terms of tiltillating foreign visitors by means of seXX, the squatters actually hold plenty of them for captivating foreign exchange which is all a contribution for the philippine economy,.. aint philippine squatters area world class? --> i wouldn't be surprised if someone would rant about it, for he is reasonable... what do you think? more

Resolved Question: Philippines Tourism-Reality Can be Attractive-What do you think?

All I see about Philippines tourism is white sand beaches, blue waters, cold beer, hammocks, and young, half-naked girls that want YOU. lol But that is not the Philippines! No one lives like that. Sure, there are pretty girls here, and pretty landscapes. However, there is no potable drinking water, poisonous food on a stick from mystery animals, that sits in dirt before its cooked and sold on the street. Homemade vehicles(ie: jeepneys, tricycles, tricycad). Burning pollution, garbage, broken cement walls, rusted, corrugated tin, rebar jutting out of the ground and walls, no toilet paper, burning garbage, random holes in the ground, a metre of sewage water on the ground, 15-year-olds with no teeth, millions of junk shops, gangs of homeless children huffin rugby, houses built out of adverts and cardboard. No police of government presence. Prostitutes a plenty. People missing body parts, blind, beggars. OK OK. Hold on now. Before you go off on your Pinoy Pride, I am Pilipino too, and I love this country. I'm not a self-hater. So hear me out. I like movies like Water World, Mad Max, Book of Eli, Children of Men. Games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Half-Life, and Fallout 3. Ask any foreigner that has come here. If you google "Philippines" or ask someone who's never been here, they say "oh it's a paradise." But if they actually come? First thing off the plane they are hit with pollution, beggars, scammers, and dilapidated, make-shift buildings. They are shocked. Then they hate it and never come back. Just like the fallacy that all Pinoy are native American English speakers. SOME Pinoy speak SOME PHILIPPINE English. So when you come here expecting all people to be fluent, and they are not, it looks bad. The Japanese are not as good in English, but more impressive. Why? Because they don't call themselves native speakers of English. We are living in a dystopian/post-apocalyptic reality. Why not be real? Why not market that? Why let Pinoy Pride get in the way? "Sure, we have pretty beaches and cheap women, but this is the end of the world! Everyday is a struggle for survival! Come experience YOUR apocalyptic adventure today!" I'm getting into the DoT to stir things up a bit. Any serious opinions? (We have lots of shotguns-too bad we don't have zombie, eh!?)I almost forgot: Terrorists kidnapping and beheading foreigners, volcanic eruptions, scores of typhoons a year, and mud-slides that can extinguish 1,000 people in a single night! more

Resolved Question: Indonesia or Philippines?

Hello..I'm half indo-phili.. My dad is Indonesian and my mom is Filipino..I just want to know which of the two countries are better?? please don't look at their bad qualities.. Hi, I need help finding a singer I found on YouTube months ago. Since it was so long ago it's no longer on my history but I'm so frustrated trying to figure it out! He has a music video where he's in a library with a girl and then there's another one of him on the beach playing the guitar wearing a flannel shirt. It's not much to go on but he's filipino, has short hair, is Australian (Melbourne) and is on YouTube. I can't remember if he has a recording deal or not. more

Resolved Question: 22male looking to online date?

I'm serving in the military and looking for any girls 18+, I've only had 3 relationships (All have been online when I was 13-15 met them through gaming sites) mostly quiet and shy at first but online I'm more open - I'm sick of being single and don't have that many contacts or have the courage to ask girls out in real life, when a girl does look at me and smile I look away quickly not because I think I could get better but because I'm THAT shy. I'm not one of those geeks but I am however a dork. I enjoy playing modern warfare 3, gym, hanging out with my military buddies and driving to visit my mom and stepsisters in Florida to fish/chill at the beach. I have set goals that I want to achieve, owning a house, a car, pets and a wife and kids. I've got a filipino mom and an american father that I've never met, my mom raised me so I am somewhat a mommas boy. Resolved Question: Cheap, safe and quiet beach to live in the Philippines?

Im a filipino but I need some help in finding a place, preferrably near the beach in the Philippines where i can start a new, simple life. I don't have a job and im on a super tight budget. Once i find the right place, a place to live in for awhile, then i can go search for a job. I'm not one of those people who aren't willing to live a SIMPLE life. I guess if im goin to survive without much money, im gonna need to make sacrifices. At first i was thinking of Boracay. then i thought that it might be expensive there simply because it's a tourist spot. then i thought of Palawan. they say that it's cheaper there but then again where would i go? is it easy to look for a cheap place to stay in? So please help me think of a place where i can start a new life. Take note: im on a really tight budget, don't have a job, i dont know anyone who lives anywhere else besides Manila (but i don't want to live there). I'm a 24 yr old girl so please somewhere safe please, I prefer the beach, Visa is not a problem because im a filipino, planning to do this adventure this coming January 2012.*****If you don't have any good suggestions then please just keep it yourself. Don't waste my time with your stupid answers because this is a serious question. that's why i said i prefer the BEACH so that it'll be much quieter than in the City. Im not referring to Videoke's and motorbike noises and shit...ok MOSES. If you have no idea what to answer then just don't. that helps a lot. more

Resolved Question: Is Portland, OR a nice place to live?

I live in Hawaii and its a really nice place to live, I am majoring in business and I also inherited around 350,000 dollars that I am saving and investing with. I am currently going to college, I go to a community college and I pay the local tuition rates so getting my bachelors will not cost so much to get. Hawaii is not a business friendly state and the cost of living is very high. I want to live in the mainland and California was on my mind but its actually worst than Hawaii for business. I know that there aren't so many jobs out there right now but since I am the employer and not the employee it doesnt really matter if there are jobs or no jobs. I like the fact that Oregon has lower salary expenses and rent expenses compared to other states in the Pacific Coast. I am also a minority (Japanese-Filipino/American) and I met someone from Oregon and he told me they are not racist, which makes me comfortable. I also checked and they have an L&L Hawaiian BBQ franchise over there so its a place that I wouldnt be home sick as much. I don't surf or go to the beach so I dont really care about missing Hawaii's nice beaches. more

Resolved Question: What do you think the main reason is that male tourists who travel solo to the Philippines is? Good or bad?

I'm not talking about Korean men who travel to the Philippines with their families to go to beaches. I am simply talking about non-Filipino men in general who travel alone to the Philippines. Do you think that their reasons include good or bad conduct?Individuals who are not romantic tourists are also welcome to contribute their thoughts. The cost of living is only cheaper if you live like a local. Most male tourist who travel to the Philippines (much more than 40% of them) do not live like a local and thus do not go there because the cost of living is cheaper. Law enforcement is attentive and very active in falsely accusing male tourists that travel solo of things that they did not do in order to extort large amounts of money out of them. Nice hypothesis though. Too bad it is wrong. Keep brainstorming. more

Voting Question: What does it take to work at Hollister?

My friend recently let me know that a Hollister in my area is currently hiring and are holding interviews for everyone that applies at the end of this week. She told me that I would definitely get hired, but I'm not sure. I'm going to go to the store tomorrow and apply electronically, then show up on Friday for the group interview. How should I ask for my application? Would it be professional to ask to apply and then buy their merchandise, or buy their merch and then ask to apply? I'm 5'3", pretty petite, naturally tan and Filipino with goldish-light brown hair (dyed). First, what does it take to work as a model at Hollister? I'm very friendly, not extremely outgoing but I do work well with strangers and am very helpful. The only downside is that I don't own ANYTHING from Hollister aside from a very old pair of jeans (we're talking four plus years old) and a basic white and navy striped shirt. Second, what should I wear to the interview? Should I wear flip flops? I understand that I shouldn't wear a lot of makeup and I shouldn't do my hair because they favor a natural look. I'm planning to do a plain french tip for my fingernails, nothing fancy or too long. As for my hair, I'm planning on sleeping on it for natural looking beach waves. If I wear flip flops, what color should I paint my toes? Any tips for the interview? What can I do to really impress them? Any help would be deeply appreciated :) more

Resolved Question: Why do people think that Philippines is like rest of East Asia!?

Philippines is very different from the rest of Asia, its more like Latin America and the Pacific Islands. Philippines does have Chinese and Islamic influence, but still Philippines very different. I'm from Guam and I notice many similarities between Guam and Philippines: Catholic religion, many Spanish words in language, lots of influence from Mexico, people look the same (FIlipinos and Chamoru are the same people), language is very similar, our cuisine is very similar, influence from US, our traditional clothing similar, traditional dances similar, Chinese influence, Japanese occupation, our race is considered brown, we were colonized by Spain together at the same time (we were known as Spanish East Indies), Philippines even governed Guam and Micronesia, there is so much more! Now, I also live in Thailand and I notice few similarities between Philippines and Thailand: People look a bit similar, beaches, both in Southeast Asia. Not much more. People need to know that Philippines is very different than rest of Asia, Filipinos should recognize that they have close links with Guam and Micronesia. Filipinos should consider themselves not as Asian. I feel a bit disappointed that they don't acknowledge their real relatives in Guam and Micronesia. Spread my word! and tell me why Filipinos consider themselves to be like other Southeast Asian people.Hey! Justice Bao, Filipinos are related to Malaysian and Indonesian, but also to Guam too. There are still more similarities between Guam And PhilippinesWait, I'm not saying that Filipinos aren't related to Malaysians and Indonesians, cause they are. But they are also related to the people of the Pacific Islands. more

Resolved Question: Why do many white people feel so uncomfortable when they're not the majority?

I'm half white, half filipino, but my mom's the only one who talks about her heritage, so i've begun to feel way more filipino than white. Last year i invited one of my white friends to a church social event that was obviously open to all races, but it's a celebration of "christmas in the philippines" sorta thing cuz my church's registered paritioners is 34% filipino so there's a strong influence. My friend looked like he felt uncomfortable and he even whispered to me "um...everyone's asian..." Then i was in honolulu this past month, and the asian and native hawaiian population is the majority there. When i was sitting in waikiki beach, i overheard a conversation this white girl was having on the phone and she was saying things like "Yeah, omg i felt like such a minority over at pearl harbor, most of the tour was asian, and my snorkeling tour had lots of asians in it. I never felt so uncomfortable." And after a night of clubbing, i was with some white friends at my college, and they were like "Did you notice how there were so many asians in there? It was kinda strange." I know not all white people are like this, but i've just experienced so many instances where when white people are the minority, they sometimes make comments about how everyone around them is not white or w/e, they just sometimes make it clear that they've noticed they were the minority. But i mean cmon, non-whites are almost always the minority, and many of us dont feel uncomfortable. So why do many white people feel out of place? more

Resolved Question: Thinking about going to the Philippines to go study abroad or work in an internship in the future?

I just got my bachelor's of science degree in civil engineering from California State Univerisity, Long Beach in December 2009. Since then, I haven't found a job that I want and I plan to maybe go back to college to pursue a master's degree in structural engineering. On top of all this, I've always contemplated studying abroad for a semester or a summer or do an internship that spans the same time frame. I want to study abroad in the Philippines since I'm Filipino by family culture, I figured it will be a good opportunity to become even more fluent in Tagalog, while studying my major or gain more work experience related to my field of study, and visit my family while I'm there. Do you guys have any resources or know any information to help me out with this? I would greatly appreciate the help. more

Resolved Question: UH manoa in Honolulu....a few questions?

I am seriously considering attending UH Manoa. I know it is in Honolulu but dont know much else about the area. I have heard that Honolulu is divided up into certain areas/neighborhoods and each one is a little different than the other....some are more ghetto/dangerous than others. What area would UH Manoa fall under? And is it in a dangerous/ghetto area? I prefer modern areas with lots to do close to beaches, malls, bars, restaurants. I dont want to be straight up in the hood. Also, I have heard that there is some racism in Hawaii? My family is from the island of puerto rico but people usually think that I am filipino or half asian, half black. I am not dark skinned....more of an olive/tan color similar to natives of hawaii but a bit lighter, though I am not sure how long I will stay that way under the Hawaiin sun lol. Will I encounter racism there from the hawaii natives? What if they think that I am black or mulatto? And is the UH Manoa area a fun place? How are the students? thanks!! more

Resolved Question: For people that are Hawaiian ONLY please.?

Aloha Kakou. 'O Mahealani ko'u inoa. No Ewa Beach Mai au. English: Hi everyone, my name is Mahealani. I live in Ewa Beach. I get very offended when people make fun of our Hawaiian culture, and I don't know if this is normal for a person to feel this way. I'm trying my best to learn my heritage. I would like other Hawaiians opinions on how they feel about the Hawaiian islands now, and if anybody out there knows from close relatives/friends how life in The Hawaiian islands used to be like. I live on the Island of O'ahu, but m Hawaiian ancestry was from the Big Island. I know I'm asking a lot, but I guess Im just trying to find out who I am, and how did my ancestors live. I am 1/16 Hawaiian (Yet proud to be, even a little, Hawaiian), 1/2 Filipino, 1/4 caucasion, Chinese, Japanese, and okinawin. I thank you for your time. Please don't answer if you are just going to write something unrelated to this. It's unnecessary and you're only bringing shame onto yourself, and your family. more

Voting Question: how do I get rid of my natural tan?

I'm Filipino and live in California. Beginning of summer I used to be brown with a lot of yellow in my skin. This summer, I've been to the beach, went outside to paintball, and a lot of outdoor activities. I've went from yellowish-brown to a very dark brown. I want to get a lighter skin tone. What can I do except for stay indoors for the next couple months, wear long sleeves, and carry an umbrella to revert to my old yellowish-brown skin tone? more

Resolved Question: Why is my filipino husband like?

I have a question of my filipino husband why does he think of taking advantage of people in certain situations always. One example I'm referring to is a couple of times my best friend left me her car a BMW M5 at my home for a week to avoid problems at the airport in parking. Well my husband said let's use the car to go to the beach I will drive it and use it. Second time my friend gave me power of attorney to make a trip out of state using her car giving me the right to make decisions regarding the car at that time. Well my husband said I should keep the car since I had power of attorney. My question is me being an Ameican born Filipino I don't think like that but but why does he think like that. more
