Rocky Beaches Questions asked

Open Question: What do you think of my story so far? its only the introduction?

It was a stupid mistake, really. My sunglasses seemed to settle into the groove of my nose so pleasantly in the precise moment I kissed Tucker Hope. That little tidbit of information was all that I can remember of that sunny day, besides my lips being plastered to his in such a way that it took copious amounts of effort not to project vomit all over Tucker’s sunglasses. “Are you okay?” Tucker mumbled as his hand moved from below my waistline to my face. This gesture, of which humans generally think of as compassionate, felt like a small anvil was being deposited onto my cheekbone. I cursed Mrs. Hope in my mind and her uncanny desire to stuff Tucker like a star football player. Reverting to cavewoman-like tongue, I grunted what I thought sounded like a “yes” into the spit gland-encased cavern known as Tucker Hope’s mouth. He then returned to his roots as well and used his crusty caveman tongue to its full extent. I could not stop thinking about anatomy. That’s another thing I can remember perfectly about that day; how I contemplated ulcers and aortas like they were the stars of Gossip Girl. It was almost like the gorgeous Tucker Hope wasn’t right in front of me, kissing and holding me passionately on the beach on a relaxing day of June. It was almost like I wasn’t enjoying it. I wasn’t. I know, it was spoiled of me, I assure you. And I also suppose I remember quite a lot about that day, I just didn’t want to tell you about it. It is kind of embarrassing that a four-eyed recently updated to contacts B-average student besides her outstanding A in English sort of kind of a loser was bummed about Tucker Hope’s lip-locking abilities. “Blay?” I hated that nickname. My name is Blair. That’s it. “Yes, Tuck?” “I’m sorry, but it’s burning. Icecream? My treat.” He smiled, and I thought I was looking at a toothpaste ad. I wondered why in the world he’d want to sugar up his perfectly white teeth with plaque-encrusted Rocky Road, but I consented. I licked the icecream. He watched. I bit a small bit off the cone, because it was falling off. He watched. I watched him. He looked away. Peering coolly behind my oversized sunglasses, which I had still not taken off even though we were indoors, I could see that Tucker was just a typical sixteen year old boy with raging hormones. The minute I looked away, I could feel him staring blatantly at my chest. I don’t really know the phrase to describe the feeling I felt when he did this, other than really weirded out. While being careful not to lick my icecream in any sexual way whatsoever, I tuned out his blabbing about surfing and reflected on the date. It was a stupid mistake, really. “Blind dates never turn out well. Especially if the man is sexual” (my mom). If I can’t find a better title for this book by the time I’m done with it, I am going to title it that quote. My best friend Casey had set me up with him, assuring me that he was the best of the best. I had fretted about this day for months, and even plastered my binder with little hearts labeled “Tyler” at school. It’s not just that Tucker was a horrendous kisser, or that he had sexual thoughts. I’m not that shallow and I’m not that mom-like to dump him for those two reasons. But I am Blair-like, because the reason I dumped him the following day over texting was completely and utterly Blair-like (as Casey would call it). He was boring. Tucker Hope hated literature. He hated poems, books, and absolutely anything about Emily Barrett Browning. The boy despised Charles Dickens, for God’s sake, there must have been something wrong in that frontal lobe of his. There I go with the anatomy again. Making brain analogies? Very Blair-like. I must say that I am definitely an individual, seeing that not many 15 year old teen girls like to curl up and write poems in their free time. This goes without saying I am not proud of it. I made a list the other night of things I should look for in a husband when I’m older. I decided to do this now at age 15, because when I’m older and searching for a mate my mind will probably be distorted with adult things such as alcohol and work, and my brain won’t function properly. Then I’ll end up marrying someone like Tucker Hope. When I wrote that sentence, I’ll have you know that I shuddered like a wet dog trying to dry itself off. But I will keep it there, I guess. It’s not like this book of my sophomore year of high school is anything to be proud of, either. I wrote it simply because I am Blair. I have probably written poems or stories about every personal experience I’ve ever encountered, from the experiences of counseling at Camp Oakak to the little robin’s nest I discovered over my bedroom window. But hey, here it is. Read it. Laugh about it. Cry about it. Do what you want with it, just don’t tell me what. Chapter 1 more

Resolved Question: What a tragedy! Do you like surfing and swimming?

Despite big-wave warnings, two walls of water caught dozens of spectators off-guard and knocked them over onto a rocky beach as they watched a Northern California surfing contest, leaving some with broken bones. Authorities said 13 people that were knocked over by the waves in Half Moon Bay, California on Saturday had significant injuries, including broken legs and arms. At least three of the injured were taken to hospital. The waves were estimated to be five to six feet high. The two large waves knocked out barricades, a spectator platform and a large scaffold holding speakers broadcasting the surfing contest, that was held in a harbour town 25 miles south of San Francisco. At least two more rogue waves came through the same area during the high tide, reaching the seawall, knocking down more spectators and sending others fleeing in panic. Spectators lost cameras, mobile phones and backpacks as the waves swept into shore. No one was swept away into the open ocean however. more

Resolved Question: Where is the best beach in the Philippines?

I've been to a few and they all have very dirty sand and very rocky bottoms. It hurts your feet just to wade out in the shallow water. There is so much shoreland that it is a shame to see it littered with trash and sewage. Unfit for bathing and you gotta wonder about the fish. Polluted rivers and shoreline are an eye sore and a health hazard. Not my problem, I know. BUT, I would like to find a nice clean sandy beach. I just cannot believe some of the ads that promote nice clean scenic beaches just to go and be disappointed. Oh Well !!! Whatever, I'm just venting. Sorry ! more

Resolved Question: im from france:please help me with english language pleaze10 points?

1)The period of Enlightenment most likely affected language by - focusing on style, tone and diction as a religious form of communication -focusing on logos, pathos and ethos to promote change and the individual -focusing on oral traditions as an effective way for preserving language -focusing on beauty and nature as way of preserving these ideas 2) Puritanism influenced the English language by introducing a more carefree, positive tone. -True - False 3)“A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas river drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and green. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool.On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees--willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter's flooding; and sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool.On the sandy bank under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp that a lizard makes a great skittering if he runs among them. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening, and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of 'coons, and with the spread pads of dogs from the ranches, and with the split wedge tracks of deer that come to drink in the dark.” The author’s purpose in describing this scene is to reveal -conflict -theme -setting -climax 4) Which word would best replace the underlined word in the quote below?“ George stared gloomily at the fire. ‘When I think of the swell time I could have without you, I go nuts. How does the language in Of Mice and Men reflect the historical events of that time? “A little stocky man stood in the open doorway. He wore blue jean trousers, a flannel shirt, a black, unbuttoned vest and a black coat. His thumbs were stuck in his belt, on each side of a square steel buckle. On his head was a soiled brown Stetson hat, and he wore high-heeled boots and spurs to prove he was not a laboring man” -the language is that of the working-class common man -the language reflects upper class society who lost much of their wealth after the stock market crashed -the language is fanciful and descriptive -the language reflects the high level of education of people during that time 6)Read the following quote from William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Then, determine if the following statement is true or false. “‘I’m frightened myself, sometimes; only that’s nonsense! Like bogies. Then, when we’ve decided, we can start again and be careful about things like the fire.’ A picture of three boys walking along the bright beach flitted through his mind.‘And be happy’ “(Golding 76).The author is trying to show that since the character has landed on a deserted island, he goes against the beliefs and values of his culture. Shenita is doing sea turtle research along the east coast of Florida and finds 10 female green sea turtles washed up on shore and very sick. There has been a recent red tide event along the east coast. She suspects the red tide has gotten into the plants the green sea turtles eat. She decides to have the sea turtles relocated to the Mote Marine Lab in Sarasota. Resolved Question: What do you think of the beginning of my story?

Ok, I just started this a few days ago, and I wanted to know if it's any good. It's about a girl with power over the elements, she is having these dreams about a boy who she has a telepathic link with. Tell me what you think. I was there again, walking into the mist surrounding me. It's so thick and blinding that I can put out my hand and make the mist swirl to my whim. As I walked forward, the mist started to part as if it was the Red Sea, making a path for me to follow. I continued to walk and noticed the terrain, ambiguous green forms, begin to appear through the mist. The sound of waves softly drummed in my ears. A cool breeze brushed against me making me quickly shiver, before I reached the end of the misty pathway I have traveled many times before. Like I expected, I stepped out to see a beach with palms trees and flourishing plants with blooming purple flowers tracing down the coastline. There was a rocky elevated shoreline with stairs leading down to where I was on the sand. In the background, I heard the waves lapping softly against the shore. I've been here many times before, always doing the same monotonous thing, wandering the obviously abandoned beach, but this time I sensed something was different. I heard a faint whisper, "Kyler." Then, I saw him. I have never seen him before, yet he seemed familiar, different. I must know who he is, I thought. I looked down to find myself already walking towards him. My bare feet sunk in the sand with every step getting closer to the mysterious addition to my dream. The mist parted more, and I could see him more clearly. His back faced me with his hands in his pockets as he stared intently into the horizon of the ocean. From what I could tell, he looked my age, 15, and had brown hair in the perfectly messy hair style. The black blazer, he wore, hugged him at his broad shoulders and muscular arms. His pressed black pants were dusted with sand from him walking bare foot in it. I was 10 feet from this mystery boy when he started to turn around. I felt myself gasp in anticipation to find out who he was. The first thing I saw was his brilliant green eyes like the ocean he was admiring just a second ago. The second, fire. I don’t know where the fire came from, but it appeared where my green-eyed mystery was a second before. Erupting in a blast of heat, it turned all sand around it to glass. It surged towards me forming a hand and grabbing my wrist. I screamed and fell backwards, pulling and yanking in attempt to free myself, but nothing could stop the fire-creature from dragging my into the center of its flame. I had my last glimpse of glimmering ocean before being engulfed in a raging roar of red. I woke up with a start, my heart beating so fast I thought it was going to escape from its bony cage. Gasping for air, I sat up in my bed taking off my baby blue covers. Wiping the cold sweat off my brow, I try to take deep shallow breathes to lower my heart rate and to calm myself from the adrenaline still coursing through my veins. "Well, that's new…heh," I mumbled to myself. Also if you see any grammatical or spelling errors, please tell me. thank youp.s. I have never heard of or read the house of night series. so how do I keep my story from being confused with it cuz kyler is not a vampire? more

Resolved Question: Did she cheat on me? Should i get back with her?

Ok, long story. Start from the beginning. We dated for 1 year, 7 months. In august, we went to the beach together, and had a great time. The week after that, she went with her best friend. They met these guys there, and i was like alright, cool. She said he tried to kiss her, but she turned away and stuff like that. Afterwards, she said 'it made me realize how much i really wanted to be with you.' So everything was fine, until i realized these guys lived 10 minutes from where we do. I got scared, and told her to back up from him a little. She came home, and literally the day after, she said she wanted to take a break to decide what she 'needed in her life'. I told her it was a bad idea. This was august. On my birthday, October 30, things were still rocky and she said our status was unclear, when i clearly let my feelings be known. We go over to a mutual friends house, have some people over, and have some drinks. By the end of the night, she wanted to sleep with her best friend, and i was like what the hell... sleep with me. She finally decided to sleep with me after i was crying. And the entire night, she was texting some guy, telling him we had drinks. So the next night, we were going to go partying, and i was going to go with, but i called and they were like 'were at dinner... call us after you hang out with your friends'. So i did, and they said 'oh we left already, well call you when we get back to [her best friend]'s house.' So i waited, and decided to party down the street from the best friends house until they came home... and i waited until 4 in the morning for a call, and never got one. The only text was from her, saying she kissed like 2 guys. The next day i figure out they got home at like 11, and i figured this out from another friend that said he was invited, along with many other people. It felt like she didn't care, she didnt want to be with me, she needed an out and made out with other guys... and it hurt. i told this girl i loved her, and when a guy says that, he means it. She said she was sorry, and shes cried to me about it... But at the beginning of the relationship, i told her i would break up with her if she a) cheated or b) it felt like she didn't care. And it felt like she did both. While we were on break again to decide if i should stay with her, she made out with 4 other guys. This hurt me a lot. And part of me wants to be with her... but part of me doesn't. more

Resolved Question: Has anyone been to Excellence in Punta Cana?

Voting Question: Anyone got an opinion on this poem?

It was a bright and innocent day No sign of what would occur They had thought it was an innocent trip And I’m sure you would concur 20 quiet footsteps Fell on the rocky shore 10 simple polite faces But inside they hid much more At dinner time a record played Revealing all their truths Of lust, and love, and greed of gold Of crimes committed in their youths A tray does clatter The lights go out The women cry and men do shout They hear a choking snarl A young face a disturbing hue Once immortal Marston Now a ghastly blue The guests are shattered Nine are left, trying to hide an awful truth But no longer can their fears be ignored When Mrs. Rogers became number two Eight guests wonder frantically Needing time to contemplate Two are dead, are more to come? Have they already sealed their fate? Seven people sit down to eat A makeshift dinner is served Macarthur is missing, but quickly found He has gotten what he deserved Exhausted from fright, no energy left The survivors go to bed When Rogers doesn’t wake them up They find him lifeless in the shed Five of six discuss the crimes The other alone in a room A buzzing sound is the next line Poison sends her to meet her doom A near death scare makes a young woman scream All rushing to help her, minds filled with fright A killer’s clever mind, sneaky and just Using this as a veil for the for secrets of the night Wargrave sits bleeding in a chair The doctor takes a look But is this man really dead? Or just a murdering crook? Resolved Question: 95-99 horror movie help please?

so it was set in europe or northeast america, but the actors spoke english. and it was a man with long hair and a blond woman i think... they find these like gobblin/troll/ugly/cannibal freak looking things and they look like they are made out of mud... they find them in a cave. and i may be wrong but i think the freaks came out and killed people. i think some of them were really short, like tree stumps with arms. anyways, that was the scary part and i think he finds out that he was related to them, i think they were his real family or something. it wasnt too old of a movie, i think it came out in the 90's. i remember in one scene he has sex with his wife on the washing machine. everyone i ask says it sounds familiar to them, but no one can remember the name. heres a photo of what the setting looked like. Resolved Question: who is good at bike and bicycles part or engineering? please make me a easy summary about this?

im making a mini bike, so this is what it says: We suggest framing the mini bike from 1" tubing. You could certainly use common 3/4-in. pipe if you were so inclined. If you don't have a tube bender, you could join straight lengths with angle iron. But make sure the joints are reinforced since the frame will suffer severe stresses from jolting over rough terrain. Formed channel or a custom solution is needed for the frame base and transmission rack and steel plate for the engine deck. For the axles, we don't recommend threaded axles if you intend use on rocky terrain by scraping past stones. Instead they can be retained with cotter pins and washers. The uprights of the front fork section are also 1-in. furniture tubing or 3/4-in. pipe. The cross members, including the two pivot brackets, are angle iron. These are spaced so that the frame's steering column will seat snugly between them. The lock pin is then dropped through. This pin is 5/8-in.-dia. rod, with an L of 1/4-in. rod welded at the top. This hooks over the upper pivot bracket to keep the pin from dropping through to the ground. It also provides a handle to facilitate withdrawal, once the cotter pin at the opposite end has been removed. Unless you can lap this pin into the frame column for a snug fit, it should ride within bushings pressed into both ends of the column pipe. In the model shown, 5/8-in. I.D. bushings were used. As we said, if you're going to do some heavy duty off road driving, you may be happy down the line if you don't use threaded axles. Or, if you do, use bushings to ensure that no thread is exposed when the wheels are secured. But you can also use special pivoting retainers and forgo the threads. Make your own retainers by welding an L-shape of 1/4-in. rod to one face of a washer large enough to slip onto the axle you've chosen. The tail of the L enters a hole in the plate, holding the axle in place in the notch. (The hub nut shown on the front axle is an alternate treatment.) The defining feature of this design is the enormous rear wheel. The 12-by-16 ATV type has no tube and is kept at only 12 lbs. pressure. At such low pressure, the tire can cups itself around small boulders and logs in the path, smoothing your ride. Also, with the design's 8" ground clearance, you won't get stopped by small obstructions nearly as often. With such a large and low pressure tire, it's virtually impossible to spin out loose soil or mud, or on ice. It floats along on top of sand, making this trail-blazer a practical beach buggy as well. The design calls for a 6-by-6 snow-and-mud tread tire on the front; you keep its tube at 15-20 lbs. pressure. Check your parts supplier for what they offer, and their selection of material for the wheels (aluminum or steel) Most commonly people use tiller engines for the power plant on these little machines. They should be horizontal mount. You'll need a centrifugal clutch if the motor you find isn't already equipped with one. The scooter we've shown uses a four-cycle engine. You'll want an engine-to-wheel ratio of 25-30 to 1. This will depend on your clutch size, are they come in a variety of tooth sizes. We'll be publishing a gear ratio chart to help with this selection. Cut Off Switch Keep in mind that this rig is really a two-wheel tractor. If you start it up with the throttle advanced, it'll take off instantly—with grim determination, and a mind of its own. So it's a good idea to have an emergency switch within easy reach—perhaps a hand-held, spring-loaded cut off switch which will stop the engine the moment you release your grip. You could part the condenser wire and insert a pushbutton switch, mounting it on the handlebar so you can keep your finger on the button while you steer. If the button is released, it breaks the ignition circuit. Or, you might use a hand-throttle with a sufficiently powerful return spring to starve the carburetor when released. Braking Engine compression supplies adequate braking, but it's a good idea to equip the rear wheel with a brake drum so you can install the pedal brake shown Extras Remember also that it's no trick to make the shafts on the idler pulleys long enough to use them as power take-offs for a water pump or generator. So if anybody shouts "Get a horse!" at you when you chug past them on the trail, you can grin smugly. What pack animal can double as a pumping station or camp-site power house? And this mount is cheap to feed. With the 2-1/2-hp engine shown, a gallon of gas should scoot you through the wilds for nearly six hours. The design uses a swing arm that connects to the jack shafts between the engine and the rear wheel. This arm allows you to change the gearing on the step pulley. The spring keeps the arm taught, so your belt doesn't slip off. The transmission rack consists of two channel uprights with bearing housings welded at both ends. These housings are merely short lengths of pipe wi more

I'm planning a trip down to New Zealand on a working holiday visa. The primary reason for my trip is surfing but that's obviously not the only thing I will be doing. Resolved Question: Can u read my story PLZ?

As the landing craft stopped, all hundred of us stepped out onto the beach. On the coast stood an enormous, ash coloured cliff. The jagged, rocky surface of the cliff was partially concealed by thick, frog- green moss. As we staggered along the vast beach, our worn out leather boots created footprints on the smooth sand. We wore muddy khaki uniforms and carried rifles on our shoulders. The weakest and strongest of us alike, gripped tightly onto our crucifixes. The deafening sounds of exploding grenades and firing machine guns didn’t show any sign of welcoming us. Many fell dead right at the spot of arrival. Tripping now and then, I struggled my way through the ground littered with countless dead bodies. Doubtlessly it was a feast for the starving sea which soon turned deep red swallowing the dead bodies. The atmosphere was saturated with the dreadful, unbearable stench of bodies which began to decay. On the faces of those around me, terror and confusion were the only expressions to be seen. Bullets whizzed towards me from all directions. Sorrowful wailings of the attacked ones echoed in my ears. The firing and exploding grew louder and louder. The world seemed to come to an end. more

Resolved Question: What can I do to fix this?

The setting is in Portobelo Panama 1757. The cripple is actually Long John Silver (from Treasure Island) this story takes place after the story of Treasure Island. It was late afternoon on the 5th of August in the year 1757. The cathedral clock in the center of the sleepy pueblo boomed four times, while a one-legged seaman with a battered crutch hobbled up from the beach on the eastern shore. He ignored the tide tugging hungrily at the small skiff in which he'd arrived, drawing it farther and farther away down the rocky shoreline. It didn't matter what happened to the boat, for he had no intention of soon leaving this place. Mangy dogs slept on dusty thresholds. A thousand eyes peered from slightly-open doorways and through windows, following the cripple as he tottered down the dirty streets. Never had there been a more wretched-looking vagrant, but this one had eyes. Not like the usual vagabond’s eyes, filled with broken defeat and glazed with inane purpose. His eyes were filled with intelligence and burned with a bitter light. His movements were precise, driven by an unquestionable intention. He made his way through the maze of adobe and dusty streets that filled the hillside, finding that each building was a near replica of its brother. The outer corners had been chipped away by time while the white stucco walls, stained with the mud of countless rainstorms, were aglow with the smoldering fire of the setting sun. Chickens and pigs hungrily edged the streets, pecking and grunting and generally unaffected by the strange man. Outside of an inn, an old man snored on a bench shaded by an oversize mango tree, and it was here the cripple stopped. A sign swung back and forth over the dark doorway squeaking as the wind blew. It had once been painted but later faded to gray with three simple words that read: El Gato Negro. It is here that he came to bury himself and hide deep in the labyrinth's heart, and he knew he would not be found. Forget finding a needle in a haystack: finding him would be like finding a needle in a stack of only needles. more

Resolved Question: Constructive criticism on the beginning of my story?

I've posted a few extracts from this before - it's the beginning of my novel. Anyone who's come across this before will see it's changed a bit - Isabel originally rescues him from the sea, but I thought maybe that was too unbelievable. Anyway, any opinions welcome. I wonder, if a bolt of lightning hit the power lines, would it travel along the wire, into the house, into my computer, through my charging i-pod, in through the earphones and fry my brain? Not that there’s any lightening in the sky, though it can’t be too far away. Flakes of snow have been drifting down all day, the vanguard of the approaching storm. Outside, the grass and stone of my surroundings are covered with a thin layer of white, thickening with every moment. A glimmer of movement outside distracts me. The police car is leaving I watch it go down the twisting driveway, waiting until a flash of sun reflected from the windshield tells me it’s reached the main road. Yanking the earphones out, I shut down the computer and head down the stairs, boots in hand. Buck, catching my excitement, pushes in front of me causing my feet, clad only in socks, to slip on the wooden stairs. For a few heartbeat less seconds I feel the pull of gravity, drawing me to the tiles below. Images flash through my mind of myself falling down to the cold tiles below, bones splintering, head cracking. I right myself and continue down, taking deep breaths to recover my shattered nerves. Buck is almost turning cartwheels in the hallway. Well, as close to cartwheels as a giant hairy dog can get. Rachel is at the bottom of the stairs, examining her reflecting critically in the mirror. She pushes a strand of hair back into place before turning to me. I sit on the bottom step, pulling my boots on. “What did the police want?” She shrugs. “Another hiker’s gone missing. You’d think people would have more sense than to go tramping over the hills at this time of year, especially in this weather.” “Like me, you mean?” She smiles. “You know the hills so well. That doesn’t mean I’m not worried though.” “Buck needs walking. So do I. I’d go mad if I spent too long indoors.” I could kick myself. If Rachel has noticed my little slip-up she doesn’t let on. “How many hikers have gone missing this year?” She wrinkles her forehead in thought. “It must be at least ten since I came here.” “I think twelve, maybe more.” I concentrate very hard on keeping my sock from wrinkling uncomfortably inside the boot. “Is that normal?” “I can’t really say I’ve noticed. A few go missing every year. The hills around here are more dangerous than people think.” I stand up, pulling on my coat and gloves. Rachel follows me through the kitchen to the back door. She looks up at the old tower on the hill. Black against the massing grey clouds, like a finger making a rude gesture out to sea. Or beckoning ships to their doom. Rachel shivers. “I think it’s that place.” “Don’t tell me you believe my Dad’s ghost stories about witches keeping people locked in there?” “Course not. It’s still creepy though.” I open the door. “Iz, wait, you’re forgetting something.” She hands me my mask. “Come on, no one’s going to be out there today.” “Just to be on the safe side. There might still be some police poking around.” I take the mask from Rachel and roll it down over my face. At least it will help to keep me warm. Outside, Buck leads the way as we walk past the lake. Although I had planned to walk over the hills this afternoon, the approaching storm sends me instead on the shorter walk to the beach. Buck runs along the edge of the lake, its waterfall frozen to a dull red icicle, stretching from cliff to surface. He follows the river down to the shore, running through its rocky tunnel. I hold my breath until I see him emerge safely on the sand, his coat stained with something like rust. The cold snap has come on so suddenly that Buck’s winter coat hasn’t had a chance to come through yet, though you can see the fur thickening at his shoulder and along his spine. I plunge my hands into the thick brush on his neck, trying to warm them. Winter is usually my favourite time of year. I enjoy seeing the impact of my presence on the world. My feel crunch over the snow, foot prints quickly wiped out by the increasing fall of snow. I take a deep breath and breathe out, the warm air waiting for a moment before being dragged away by the wind. I settle myself on a boulder, watching Buck run alongside the tide line, whining out to sea. I pull the envelope from my pocked and run my fingers over the handwritten address. An American postmark and stamp. I don’t know anyone in America. I try to remember if Rachel has mentioned anything about Aunt Lilla going there for the holidays. But I know I would recognise her handwriting. From its thickness, I guess it’s a Christmas card. Christmas is still two days away. Should I open it? Who would know? I turn the card over in my hands, considering. I look out to sea. While I’ve beI turn the card over in my hands, considering. I look out to sea. While I’ve been sitting here the wind has increased, whipping the sea into a frenzy. I admire the iron grey of the sea, a perfect complement to the heavy clouds. Snowflakes land on the envelope, blurring the last line of the address. Here isn’t the place to read it. I shove the envelope into the deep pocket of my parka and call to Buck, who is hidden from view behind a pile of rocks. He mustn’t be able to hear me for the wind. As I draw closer, I see he’s nosing at the chest of a young man, sitting on the beach and rapidly becoming covered by the increasing snowfall. The boy is soaking, hair plastered to his head, whether from seawater or snow, I can’t tell. He stares at me blankly, seemingly totally unaware of his surroundings. The wind redoubles its efforts and I’m nearly blown off my feet. It’s probably a bad idea to take him home with me, but what’s the alternative. I don’t see anyone else around and if I leave him here he’ll probably be dead before too long. “The house”, I chatter through my teeth, gesturing feebly up the slope. “It’s not far”. The wind whips the words from my lips, carrying them off out to sea, he looks at me with incomprehension. I take off my parka and throw it around him and offer a hand up. After a long pause, he takes it. Together we stagger forwards. I look around me. In the time I’ve spent on the beach, the snow storm that has beenIn the time I’ve spent on the beach, the snow storm that has been threatening all day has now broken in earnest. At the most, I can only see a few feet in front of me. The house is lost in the snow. I try to think. Find the stream. I head up the beach, my arm around the boys shoulders. Walking into the wind is like walking into a wall, for every two steps we take, I think we’re blown another step backwards. Every breath is like inviting a thousand icicles to stab my insides. Eventually we stumble over the rocky entrance to the tunnel the stream runs through. From there I am able to follow the stream up to the lake. From here it should just be a short walk to the house, but I still can’t see it. Buck forges ahead, coat so crusted with ice he looks like some kind of snow monster, at least twice his normal size. I trip and fall into a snow drift, almost dragging the boy down with me. It feels so warm. It’s so tempting to lie here. To rest, just for a few moments.I know it's quite long, but I'd really appreciate any feedback and thoughts on how it could be improved, or whether anyone would be interested in reading more of something like this.Oh, and I know there's a few typo. I'm correcting them right now more

Resolved Question: How can I streamline these paragraphs?

.It was late afternoon on the 5th of August in the year 1757. The cathedral clock in the center of the sleepy pueblo boomed four times, as a one-legged seaman with a battered crutch hobbled up from the beach on the eastern shore. His movements were precise, driven by an unquestionable intention. more
