San Juan Beaches Questions asked

Resolved Question: Advice on cruise destinations?

My boyfriend and I are going on a cruise, and we've narrowed it down to two. Cruise #1 goes to Grand Caymen, Isla Roatan, Belize, and Cozumel (Mexico), Cruise #2 goes to Half Moon Cay (Bahamas), St. Thomas, San Juan (Puerto Rico), and Grand Turk. Cruise number 2 is about $100 more than cruise number one, but I've been to both Cozumel and Belize before (although obviously that doesn't mean I've seen everything there is to see). Both cruises are with the same cruise line and the ships are about the same, so no real differences there. Where would you go? I should mention my boyfriend and I are more into beach/ocean/snorkeling/horseback riding activities than shopping/historical activities. Input from anyone who has been to any/some/all of these places would be appreciated. Thanks :) more

Resolved Question: Residents of Puerto Rico - Please help!?

I am going to be in San Juan from 7/17/2010 - 7/23/2010 for vacation. Looking at weather forecasts, it looks like it will be raining the whole time I am there! I was really hoping to be able to enjoy the beaches, go kayaking on the bioluminescent bay, hike the rainforest, etc. For those of you who live there or are there currently, is there any hope that I will see some sun? If not, do you have any suggestions for indoor activities I could do? Also, I am packing sundresses, shorts, and T-shirts, since I hear that even when it rains, it is still hot. Any suggestions and or encouragement is appreciated. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Where to stay in San Juan, PR - with child, pref to walk or cab places?

Going to San Juan, PR in Nov. for 2 days before a cruise. We do not plan to rent a car and prefer to walk or cab to local sites, restaurants, etc. Pool is critical as we have 6 year old. Beach is nice to have. Being able to venture out of the hotel and find things - critical. Thoughts based on personal experience appreciated - thanks in advance. Also open to ideas on what to do while there. more

Resolved Question: Seattle-San Juan Island-Best way to see whales?

Hi, I am planning a trip to Seattle with my friend and I wanted to know what the best way to see (and get awesome photos of) Orca whales is. I have researched: -Boat tours from San Juan Island -Someone recommended just riding the Ferry -1 day Kayak tour http://www.outdoorodysseys.com/onedaykayaktours.html -Visiting Whale Watch Beach on San Juan island So what do you recommend? The most important thing to me is getting as close as possible to some whales and getting good photos, and of course, whichever is the best overall experience. If you've done one or all of these things please share your experience and recommendation. Thanks! :)Charles--you are an idiot. If you knew how to read you might have noticed all the options I listed are either on guided tours or on land. Idiot. Thanks for the tip Jennifer--and yes, I understand that the sea is not a zoo *sigh* more

Resolved Question: Where to live: Fajardo or San Juan in PR if visiting PR for the first time?

We are planning our vacation to Puerto Rico this September. We are more interested in visiting different places rather than just seating the pool all the time. We want to visit El Yunque, Caves and Culebra (Flamanco beach). Which town would be easiest to commute? Let me know the transportation system there? Will it be a good idea to rent a car for visiting El Yunque and caves or shall we take an escorted tours? more

Resolved Question: If our new washing machine arrives on John The Baptist Day, will our laundry be clean forever?

Our new washing machine is being delivered tomorrow, John The Baptist's birthday. In other news, tonight is "La Noche de San Juan Bautista", or the night of Saint John the Baptist. In case you couldn't guess, Saint John, or San Juan in Spanish, is the patron saint of San Juan, Puerto Rico. June 24th is his official birthday. According to legend, the night before his birth, all of the waters are blessed with special powers, like warding of evil stuff, healing, etc... Get it, like in baptism? So on this night, Puerto Ricans (a LOT of them) gather on the beach and at midnight, fall backwards 7 times into the water to bring fortune and health and all that goodness for the upcoming year (as to how many times you fall in the water it's debatable, some say 3 times) People set up camp at the beach, light bonfires, bring coolers, and bands play. It's a fun party and just wanted to share. http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/noche-de-san-juan/I have perverted clothing... I will need to use the machine every time my laundry touches me. more

Resolved Question: celebrity cruise-first time cruiser?

I am going to San Juan, St Thomas and St Marteen in December. Should I book an activity in each port from the cruise ship or wait until I arrive to the port of call to arrange a tour from a different agent? Can I trust the tour operators that are not affiliated with the ship? This is for San Juan and St Thomas only. Also, will Celebrity Solstice provide towels (beach, pools), shampoo, conditioner and soap or not? thanks more

Resolved Question: Which is better worth my while in Puerto Rico?

I will be vacationing in PR this coming July with my husband. We only have 5 days there, and our hotel is in Ocean Park. I am planning our itinerary, and so far, I am planning on going to Ocean Park beach, touring Old San Juan, visiting El Yunque Rain Forest, taking a kayaking tour of the Bioluminescent Bay in Las Croabas, and going to the art museums. On the last day there, we are deciding between going to Camuy Caves/Space Observatory/Caguana Park or taking a day trip to Culebra Island. We are going to have a rental car. Also, are restaurants in Old San Juan open late? I was hoping we could get dinner there after either one of these trips. Both trips sound really fun, and we can't decide. For those of you who have experience with these sights, please share your opinions! Thanks so much! more

Resolved Question: Should I rent a car when I vacation in Puerto Rico?

I am going to stay in Ocean Park in July for a week. I plan on relaxing on the beach, visiting Old San Juan, and going on a few tours - maybe to the rainforest, caves, etc. I know there are bus, taxi, and trolley options, but I was wondering if it would be better to rent a car. I hear that San Juan is full of traffic, so I really don't want to drive if it will be hard to get around and to find parking. Also, if any of you have been to PR, is it a nice place to visit, and do you have any suggestions for places to go and things to do? I am going with my husband, and we are really looking to just have a nice, romantic vacation. Thanks!! more

I will be there this summer and I wanna try some skim boarding, I was just curious if there are good beaches for that. What are the beaches like there? I will be around Friday Harbour I believe so somewhere around there is kind of where I was wanting to skim board. Any good spots that you might know of? Even any knowledge about the beaches there would be awesome. ThanksAlso, does anyone know of some places to rent skim boards around Friday harbour? Thanks more

Resolved Question: what is an awesome excursion you've been on!?

so... i'm going on a southern caribbean cruise w/ carnival victory next January. i'll be in san juan the day before the cruise departs, then i'll be in san juan again for the first day of the cruise. then st thomas, dominica, barbados, st kitts, st lucia, st maarten, and san juan is the last day. i've heard kayaking is amazing, and ATV is apparently fun... i like adventure, but i don't wanna do hiking or anything. i hate historical walks. and i don't want a tour guide to just cling to my side for 5 hours telling me historical facts and taking me site seeing. i'd rather have some fun and adventure or else go and find my own peaceful beach. anyway, what is your best excursion experience?! what do you recommend?! and WHY more

Resolved Question: what excurisons are fun on carnival cruises?

i'm going on a southern caribbean cruise in january with carnival. the ports are san juan, st thomas, dominca, barbados, st lucia, st kitts, st maarten, and back to puerto rico. there are so man excursions... like beginner scuba, snorkeling, zip line, ATV & jeeps to the beach, hot baths, whale & dolphin safari, rain forest tours....... HEAR ME OUT THOUGH AND PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE :) :) okay so i HATE just like typical tours where i feel trapped... i don't want a tour guide to talk to me for 30 straight minutes about the history of a place. i want to enjoy the beach, relax, yeah maybe site see, but i wanna have fun and just relax. i feel like when i'm on the cruise, if i get off the boat the beaches will be crowded, i don't want to be on a crowded beach or a tpical tour place, i wanna have fun and relax on the beach. it'd be cool to go to tourist spots where i can take pictures and everything, but if im just gonna be trapped listening to the history of the place or with a bunch of ppl i don't know, then i dont wanna do that. i wanna be JUST WITH MY FAMILY and in pretty places i can swim or relax or surf or something. what excursions would be good? go to carnival and southern caribbean cruise excursions and look at those. thank you!!! more

my boyfriend is going into the coast guard in march after he turns 18. He wants to do drug interdiction. I was wondering what would be the best (safest) ports for him to ask for. I know its somewhere in Florida cause that's where we're from and that's where the drugs are at. I'm hoping for anywhere but Miami beach and San Juan. hes talking to a recruiter in July, but we would like to have as much info as we can. and yes i know we have to be married to live on base, and i made it clear we're not getting married to live on base. he just wants the safest city for me to live in with a good college. more

Resolved Question: Beach with stars in the sky?

Okay ... well, I live in Puerto Rico, San Juan, near the beach, and at night there are no stars in the sky, because you know, the lights and all ... and maybe there are buildings near every beach in existence? I tried to google for a beach with stars but it didn't understand the question, lol, and I don't know how else to explain it. So ... if any of you have gone to a beach at night and there were a lot of stars in the sky ... I'd like to know where that beach was :) (try to be precise with the directions, doesn't have to be perfect) thank you~ more

Resolved Question: Down to $1,000, no job, single, minimal financial obligations, where can I move?

I'll make this fast and fun for you. I want to move to a secluded place in the Caribbean where I can live a simple life. What makes me different than most people is that I am single, I have no children, no past relationship issues, no financial obligations and have passes to fly anywhere I want. I am a US Citizen and have already checked out San Juan and St. Thomas. I've also been to Hawaii. I'm looking to live somewhere tropical that will allow me to commute by bicycle where I need to go. I am down to my last thousand dollars and I am getting off the mainland soon. Can anyone recommend a place I might find a job, that's bicycle friendly and has the majority of things I need in place including nice beaches? Key West may be a possibility though I think it is relatively expensive to live there. Thanks. Thanks for the information. I have considered St. Croix but like St. Thomas and St. John, it does have a mountainous landscape. As far as the Dominican Republic goes, I would love to live and work there but unfortunately, I might run into two problems. First off, I'm a US Citizen and contrary to popular belief, you can not just waltz into another country and begin working. There is a process and procedure you must go through and some countries make it impossible for foreigners to work within. The second issue might be that since everything is so cheap, where do you find even a mediocre paying job that balances out with the local cost of living. Third, I do not speak Spanish. You guys are on the right track but I'm not sure how effective moving to another country will prove to be. Immigration violation (eventually) plus no right to work within. more

Resolved Question: What Puerto Rico beaches are close to San Juan airport?

I am flying into San Juan tomorrow but will only be there for about ten hours. I want to leave the airport and go to a beach. Are there any places close to the airport where I can hang out on the beach, get something to eat and chill for five hours or so? Maybe a hotel has a beach with a beach side resturaunt I can grab a burger at? Plus, what would be the best way to get there. Thanks guys. more

Resolved Question: Family trip to Southern California - what am I forgetting?

We're doing a family trip to Anaheim primarily to take our 4 year old to Disneyland. I grew up in Orange County and I'm trying to remember the things I thought were fabulous but I know I'm probably forgetting something great. My daughter wants to go the beach and Disneyland. Both are on the agenda though I haven't decided on which beach yet but am thinking Laguna so we can hit the tide pools. If there is a better place, please inform (seems like there was but I can't remember). We may do Sea World and I loved the Mission at San Juan Capistrano. We're only there for a week. I'm not interested in Universal or Magic Mountain - she's too young to enjoy it. Knott's doesn't seem as great as it once was either. What is fantastic? Anything a 4 year old would love? We live in Denver so I'm really wanting things we lack here. I know the San Diego zoo is a really great zoo but we have a good zoo here and I'd rather spend our limited time seeing things we flat out don't have at all here. Like tide pools. :)Thanks Wayf :) de facto.... and.... did you just pop in here to mention that or did you plan on throwing out some kind of crumb of usefulness. :) more

Resolved Question: What is the most popular beach in Central America?

It can be invitation ideas, cake ideas, dances, centerpiece ideas, favors, etc. Just please help. Thank You =) more

Resolved Question: can i get a refund on my debit card if i have paid a holiday deposit but after reading reviews feel misled?

we booked a deposit to the dominican republic in december, 2 adults 2 children and 1 infant aged 8 months. we booked a 4 star all inclusive. On Trip advisor it says that the hotel beach is eroding and covered in sand bags to cover the erosion. It also says that the area suffers badly with sand flies and people get bitten when they go on the beach. We have paid £400 so far and owe another £400 on the deposit. We have booked at the Bahia Principe San Juan. There are some good reviews but a lot of awful reviews. Just really want some advice!!Just to update we rang the travel agents, explained the situation and showed them the reviews. They were disappointed that they didnt know "allegedly" and refunded in full immediately! Thanks for all the answers! more
