Sunsets Beaches Questions asked

Open Question: What is the best way to die--- of these...?

Drowning in the ocean your mother loved and took you to, and you can almost remember her thin frame in the golden light over the water of this beach, but you wake up and can't remember quite what she looked like then-- I mean you have pictures of her and all, but they don't capture much of her expression. She loved the beach, and you did too, apparently, back then when your REAL Mama was alive. Falling off a high and beautiful cliff, at sunset. Overdosing on euphoria-meds and sinking quickly yet slowly into a sweet dream that you don't have to wake from. Sitting in a warm sweet-scented bubble bath, and letting your blood slowly drain from your drifting body. Slowly losing consciousness as you wait for the carbon monoxide to take you back to the origins--- join your mama in heaven or hell, wherever she went when she did, listening to soft music off of one of her old CD's. Just wonderin'. more

Open Question: Ladies Only: I am looking for a companion to spend time with. Someone that we can start out as friends but?

that it will eventually lead to a relationship which is what I am seeking. I am friendly, loyal, courteous, well educated and enjoy the simple things in life. The reality is that I want to be able to share my life with someone. I'm not talking about running and get married...no that is not it all. I've been there and done that as they say and I'm really not interested in walking down the aisle again...but one can never say never, who knows? but what I am looking for is a woman that I can be a great friend to and be romantically involved at the same time. Why is finding the right person so difficult? there are so many variables that one must go through, so many obstacles along the way. I am not looking for the perfect woman because I am well aware that perfection in humans is nonexistent but just someone that I can have fun with and have a great time and also become a part of her life and she will do the same. I love a woman that can stimulate me physically as well as intellectually. You don't have be a beautiful specimen or have a Ph.D in Behavioral Science but a regular-looking girl with a brain that can carry a conversation. I tend to be shy and withdrawn at first but once we get going on a given subject, I'm a very good conversalionist in all modesty. I have a Master's degree in English literature so naturally any conversation about books, writers, poets, I am going to be fascinated with. I love music: classic rock from the 60s and 70s and I also like jazz, soul, blues and classical. I like going to the movies, the theater, dinner or just taking a walk along the beach and watching the sun go down. I LOVE sunsets, I can spend a long time watching how the beautiful colors intertwine with the clouds, it makes for a spectacular and most precious celestial sight. I am romantic...yes I am. I still believe in romance and sweeping a girl off her feet with a love poem, candies, and flowers. I guess I'm kind of old-fashioned in that sense. I just want to love somebody and have them reciprocate all of that love in return. I'm really a simple guy overall. I'm not materialistic or selfish and like to share whatever I have with that special someone. I hope I can meet somebody on here. I know that this is not a dating site...believe me I've tried a few of those and so far all of my attempts at finding someone have failed. Most women that I've encountered in the last few years and the ones I've dated seem to want the same thing: MONEY and POWER. I'm sorry but I'm not wealthy and I don't have any power. They all seem to be interested in how much money I make, or what kind of car I drive or whether I own or rent my house and if I own a business. If you're that kind of woman --than with all do respect don't continue reading because I am NOT the man that you're looking for. I wish you well in your seach and hope that you find what you're looking for. I love animals (although I don't have any) but if you have a dog, cat, bird or whatever other species as long as is not extremely dangerous I'm cool with it. Children are fine although I would prefer someone whose kids are pretty much grown but if you have a child that is a minor and living with you, I will understand. I know about kids as I have three of my own. One adult 21 and two teenagers 14 and 15, so I know all about having kids and raising them. I know how difficult it can be especially if you're a single parent. I really admire women that have been forced to raise their children on their own because the father left them and don't receive any kind of assistance either monetary or emotional. I ask that any ladies that read this narrative that sounds more like an advertisement for finding love, LOL and are interested in perhaps meeting and talking with me are from Miami only. I apologize if I seem that I am discriminating against other woman that live in other cities, rest assure I am not. Is just that I would prefer that the person be from Miami which is where I live so that I won't have to travel to another city in another state to meet her, I hope that you can understand. Although any ladies that wish to give me their advice on what they thought about what I've written here is welcome to do so and I appreciate very kindly. Well, I hope to get some responses and hopefully one of those will be the lady that I am looking for. I thank you for taking the time to read this long narrative and I do apologize for its length but I needed to be clear on some of the things that I am looking for in a person and needed to be as thorough as possible. I'm not posting my e-mail because I don't know yet what is going to come out of this but if something positive does which I am hoping than I will be get in touch with that person. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Is this joke about Nancy Pelosi fair?

A man washed up on a desert island after a shipwreck. The only other survivors were a sheep and a sheepdog. The three of them got into the habit of going down to the beach every evening to watch the sunset. One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds and the breeze was warm and gentle. It was a perfect night for romance. As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over and put his arm around the sheep. But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercely until the man took his arm from around the sheep. A few weeks passed by and, lo and behold, there was another shipwreck. The only survivor was Nancy Pelosi. That evening, the man took Nancy to the evening beach ritual. It was another beautiful tropical evening – perfect for romance. Before long the man started to get “those feelings” again. He fought the urges as long as he could but he finally gave in, moved closer to Nancy and told her he hadn’t had sex for months. Nancy batted her long, lovely eyelashes and asked if there was anything she could do to help. “Yes,” he said, “Take the dog for a walk.” http://www.ihatethemedia.com/nancy-pelosi-joke-sheepKate - I see your enjoying the kool-aid? more

Resolved Question: why do american soaps seem so unreal versus english soaps that are gritty and hard hitting?

My view of US soaps is from seeing Sunset Beach and B&B which were both hilariously unreal, unless that's what America is like? Do you have soaps like eastenders or hollyoaks that deal with real serious issues? Or does US tv promote fantasy land more?I take offence at the implication that all brits are dirty. I shower twice a day, am obsessed with keeping my teeth clean and know plenty of clean people. Rude. more

Voting Question: My shitty suicide note?

Im 15 and female and here's my shiityy suicide note your the only people that will read it cause I'm not going to leave one I just wrote it for myself.. What a shitty dayy... Yesterday I had alot Of Time to think About things Since u was forced to stay in my room all day and this is what went through my DiSt0rtEd mind: It's hard to remember what my personality used to be when i was younger because I'm not the same person I used to be I mean iv never really been "happy" but I knew when I was myself and those memories are completley gone now...  I don't know who I am anymore   I want to go back but I know i can't  I used to get really depressed for a couple of days then it would go away, but now it seems to always be lingering. It's getting really bad my suicidal thoughts are getting worse and I really think I'm going to do it. I hate how i treat so many cool people like shit when they dont derseve it at ALL thats definitly the thing that i hate the most about myself and I really don't mean to I just can't help it, I try to be myself but like I said before I don't know who that is anymore... I'm really down I just wanna dissapear I hate my "mom" she's turned my heart completely numb and I know how fucked up this is but I want her to die I really don't know how much more I can take of her I'm terrified of myself because I'm loosing my grip on reality... I feel "depersonalized" for example... I feel like I don't know whoes body I'm in as if I lost myself (I have lost myself) and I know i'll NEVER be the same again and I hate knowing that. I try to look forward but it's so hard when you have nothing to look forward to because this world is so screwed up and unfair. I'm crazy.       When I graduate I'll be 17 but I'll be 18 a month after so I'm going to get a job asap and save up so when I am 18 I can leave just dissapear maybe see California likee just watch a sunset on the beach and bask in the sun and just feel the warmth of it... I know that sounds weird but when your so used to feeling so numb and cold the thought of a scenic view and the suns warmth sounds really really nice. I wanna buy a apartment and get really FUKiN HiGH then SLIT my wrists to the bone and watch my BL00D fl0w out while I write "I'm sorry" in my own blood until i pass out on the cold bathroom floor i want to be forgotten so I can die without hurting anyone the way I was hurt I will probly be on that bathroom flooor for weeks until anyone notices because iv fucked up almost every social realationship that iv had because I'm such A INSANE BITCH but that's ok I guess.... I want to die young anyway. I'm so underapreciated and noone notices how much I try to be a nice person but latley I don't blame them because iv been fucking up (badly) and I'm sorry.  "so will you scatter my ashes where they wolnt be found, I gave my word that I swore that I would let you down and now that I'm gone try to forget me and just move on"This I more of a monolouge than a suicide note... Resolved Question: First Date - Rose or no rose?

To set the scene a little, there's this girl that's 19, really laid back and a beach lover. I've been talking to for a little while and we're finally having our first date this Saturday. She suggested getting some ice cream and talking and maybe watch the sunset at the beach. We live in Hawaii, so the weather is nice enough to be able to do this. Now...as this will be my first real meeting with her, I was thinking of maybe getting her like a white or red rose as we both are fans of romance. Since she doesn't drive, she's just gonna meet me there as she lives relatively close by where we said we would meet up. Would this be a good idea or is the whole rose on the first date thing too much of a cliché? Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Do You Think My Writing is good?

This is my topic: For vacation, your family is planning on going camping in the mountains. However, you would rather go somewhere else. Write a paper to your family explaining why they should go where you want to go. This is my writing: Please mom, I've already been to the mountains, I know what it looks like there. All we do is climb, go camping, and sing songs.I really don't like it there. All my friends are going on a real vacation. Take a moment to think where you want to go more, the dry snowy mountains where you can barley do anything, or beachy Hawaii where you can relax in the sun. Remember a couple years ago, when we took that trip to Florida. You were always smiling and laughing with me. Remember how we would walk along the beach watching the sunset slowly lower behind the ocean, and how the sand would get caught between your toes. You loved that, that will never happen on the mountains. No hotel, no gourmet meals, no pool, there's nothing fun there. There is a lot to do in Hawaii, like surfing, searching for seashells on the beach, and not to mention shopping. In the mountains you can't surf, search for seashells, or shop. Why do you think it is so interesting there? I think it's so boring, really. Think about it, the cold, boring, mountains, or warm, sunny, Hawaii. You decide. more

Resolved Question: English travel writing?

So guys, this is the writing a needa do for english, please let me know if you think anything can be changed. oh its about hong kong by the way, Hope that its not too long ^^ please feed back Boat and Beaches Hong Kong may seem to be a small place, but it is a great place to set foot in when you have a few days of holiday nonetheless. People tend to think that Hong Kong is a small busy town that has buried itself in work. People are often familiar with the theme parks and the local market places, as they have read about them in travel guides. However, these guides usually only write about the market places and the famous tourist spots and ignore some of the most beautiful places in Hong Kong. Tai Long Wan is located due east of the Sai Kung country park. You can get there by taking the MTR to Ma On Shan station and following the pathway to Sai Sha Road which will lead you to the Tai Mong Tsai Road. The whole hike is going to take around five hours. It may seem to be a long time but you will not regret it once you did it. There is an alternate route that is by sea. All you need to do is to get yourself to Port Shelter by MTR or you can take the taxi and hire a boat to take you there. The whole trip is merely around a quarter of the time of the hike, which is 1.2 hours. It is recommended that you be in the boat at 4:30 pm so you can watch the sunset. You will be amazed by the difference between Tai Long Wan to the city centre. How the cement forest from the city has changed into a real forest. Everything is natural with no sign of human activity or pollution. As you open you eyes from your nap on the boat, you will be struck by the hot blazing sun that is hanging halfway up the sky. The salty and fishy smell of seawater will hit you a few moments later. When your eyes are adjusted to the sunlight, you will be able to see clearly all the way to the horizon, where the water blends in with the sky. As you look down into the water, you will notice how clear the water is and you may be able to faintly make out the features of the seabed. The fishes in that area often welcome tourists by swimming around their boat. They fear no one and act as it they are the master, the king of this area. Wriggling through the water, their shining bodies cut through the water and reflect sunlight at the same time. You will think how marvelous these creatures are. Right in front you now should be Tai Long Wan. Over the beach are three mountains. All of them are similarly huge and their shapes are almost identical, which makes them look like twin brothers. Green vegetation covers the mountains completely, like a mini version of a tropical jungle. At the same time, the three tall grassy mountains look like they are the peacekeepers of the area, keeping everything in harmony. Due to the fact that the shore is too shallow for the boat to park, you will need to row a small life boat that will be provided by the owner of the boat. As the boat is lowering its anchor, the fishes below the anchor will act as if they know that it will go down. They will go out of the anchor’s way and form a barrier around it at the same time, surrounding it. You will notice that one of them will soon start to swim between the chains, then the rest of them will follow, burying the anchor under their slimy bodies. As you lower the lifeboat with a splash, make sure that you have a paddle with you or else you will have a very hard time getting to the beach. A lot of people underestimate the distance between the shore and the boat, causing them to be exhausted when they arrive at the beach and let me tell you now that I bet you will make the same mistake too. Because of the huge waves, you will need to paddle as hard as you can to move forward slowly. As you reach the shore, the beach there will be a totally different image form what you saw on the boat. The beach is spectacular; the sand, which constantly embraces the rough sea as it licks the beach, making it moist all the time, is so fine that you can almost melt into it. This place here is also great for sunbathing. Allowing the sun’s ray to touch every part of your body, you are guaranteed to be nicely tanned by the end of the day. You might also catch sight of some crows flying freely in the never-ending sky. Viewing them in front of the sun, you will think twice next time before you use them to describe something bad. With them flying elegantly, you will not believe how creatures can portray such a beautiful image upon themselves. Having dinner in this environment will probably be one of the most unforgettable experiences for you. With such little distance from nature and you, you will certainly enjoy the food. Even a plain old ham and cheese sandwich will turn itself into a delicious masterpiece of food. Little by little, you will be stunned by the view as the sun changes from a red face angry headmaster supervising a detention to a warm caring mother. The more

Resolved Question: Ex-Boyfriend.. Friend.. Still a possibility?

I broke up with my boyfriend 2 months ago because he told me he felt like I was his friend and not his girlfriend and he was always paying more attention to this other girl. During the past month we have been hanging out more and he even apologized for being a jerk. We keep hanging out and I've recently shared a lot with him. And last weekend, we were at the beach with friends and he asked my best girl friend to talk to me and see if I would sit next to him by the fire at sunset. But when we talked today he told me to my face that he was over me and we are just friends. Is taking him back a bad idea? Do I just want the attention? more

Voting Question: Ideas for a beach wedding dress?

I am renewing my vows in June, and I just can't find the perfect dress. Since it's just a renewal, I want something simple, not too fancy, and a little sexy. Maybe like a sundress? We are doing it on the beach at sunset. I've searched eBay, and hit all the stores at the mall, but can't really find anything. Do you have any suggestions for websites I could visit? Thanks! more

Voting Question: Good 3 day vacation for couples?

I would like to take my girlfriend somewhere nice. She has never even been on an airplane. Yeah, she is one of those....I want her to see beautiful beaches and romantic sunsets. Anyway, I wanted to take her to Cancun but with the time difference and our short 3 day allowance, I dont think that would be a good idea. Can you all give me some ideas? I would like to do this the last week in March. more

Resolved Question: How would you react if your husband did this while on vacation with his buddies in the Barbados?

Last week my husband went away on a holiday with 2 of his friends. They went to Barbados for 5 days. He left on Monday Feb 15th the day after Valentines Day. We have been together for 18 years and we have never been on a separate vacation before. This was the first time either of us had gone away without each other. We had always said we were not like other couples and did not like the idea of taking separate vacations but this year he decided he was going to do it. So I said it was okay and did not make a big fuss about it. We have two teenage sons so I knew I was going to be busy while he was away lying on a beach relaxing in 30 degree weather. Monday night I got a short email to say he arrived okay and I replied thanking him for letting us know and said to have fun. The next day I asked my son to reply to his next email and my son in his email jokingly says “And be sure to check out the beach bods for us” My husband emails back saying “The black bods are pretty good but the white bods are kind of old!” . Okay a joke I tell myself. The next day I get up to receive an email from my husband. It reads “ Lunch in Barbados.. wish you were here .. we finally did .. Peter, Bill and Steve you guys should have been here..” I scroll down the email to see the pic that was included and the very first thing I see is my husband sitting at a table leaning back into a woman sitting beside him. He has this big smile on his face and she has her arm wrapped around him so that her hand is dangling not on his waist but sort of towards his crotch. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was shocked. As I could only see the part of the pic with the two of them I double clicked on the pic to see the whole thing and saw that there were four people at the table. My husband and this woman I have never seen before on one side of the table and his two buddies on the other side. My husband and a friend across the table were holding a small sign saying "Lunch in Barbados" To me it looked like my husband and this woman were a couple. I re-read the email to see if I missed something and I notice that the email was not addressed to me. It was addressed to 3 of his soccer buddies back home and copied to the other guys that were with him in the picture. It was if I got it by mistake – as if it was never meant to go to me. My email address was not in the header. There was no explanation as to who she was or what they were doing. I emailed him back right away (8 am) saying “Nice picture - who's the woman with her arm around you?”There was no reply all day until I finally got a reply at 5 pm and here’s what he said. “Hi Sweets, You're just like Cathy ... she said, who's Jim's new girlfriend?! She's actually John's new girlfriend not mine!! (but don't tell Cathy!). Don't worry, she's John's driver (Cathy's too!) and she took us on an island tour yesterday ... it was fantastic!! We're off now to catch the sunset. Have had a wonderful time!! See you tomorrow night. I love you guys! Jim” That was the last I heard from him until he arrived home Friday night at 11:30. Here I was 2500 miles away, my husband is on the very first vacation without me in 18 years and the very first photo he decides to send me is a photo of him with some woman wrapped around him. I still can’t believe it. I was expecting a photo of him on a beach waving or a message saying I miss you but not in my wildest dreams did I expect a photo like this. He says I am over reacting. The photo was nothing. He said after all his buddies were across the table and it was just the luck of the draw that he sat beside her. Yes she had lunch with them and yes she spent the whole day with them but according to him nothing happened. She just had her arm around him for the photo. I’m supposed to trust him which I have always done before. Would you get mad if your husband sent you a photo like this. He says he did not think it would bother me – it was just a joke. And he sent this same photo to 3 of his soccer buddies back here. All I can think of is now when his buddies look at the photo they say look there’s the boys on vacation in Barbados without their wives. John and Mark on one side of the table and there’s Jim on the other side with a woman all wrapped around him. Cool. I’m sure his wife is gonna love that photo. He says I’m wrong. That I’m overreacting. He says it just just a photo and I should just relax. He actually said he was hurt that I trusted him so little. Somehow it's now my fault and now I have ruined his vacation. I do not know what to do. I’m hurt and I’m angry and I’m disappointed he would do this to me. Do you think under these circumstances sending this photo to me and his buddies is appropriate? Resolved Question: How is the beginning of my story?

“I love you” I said as I smiled shyly into the beautiful face before me. Her name was Kate and we had dated for years. I had never spoken the words until that beautiful night on the beach. The soft, orange glow of the sunset illuminated her soft brown hair. Kate smiled softly and leaned forward, and whispered sweetly in my ear, “I love you too.” The feeling burst inside, I could not contain my happiness to hear her say those three, powerful words. The fear of rejection had eaten at me for months, and to finely say it, and hear it in return caused an unexplainable feeling. I smiled broadly, and held her hand. “Kaitlyn Marie, will you marry me?” I asked getting down on one knee, and opening a small ring box with a glistening diamond ring inside. My heart stopped, yet at the same time beated at an insane rate, and I felt it hard to breath. “Yes, I will!” she exclaimed joyfully, a tear streaking down her face. I slipped the small engagement ring slowly on her finger as we happily laughed softly. I stood up and looked down on my beautiful fiancé. “May I?” I asked holding out my hand down to her. Kate smiled, took my hand gently, and rose to her feet. We dance slowly, looking into each other’s eyes. “I love you so much” I whispered over and over again. It was all I could say; I was so happy and still a little shaky from the previous nervousness. I know you’re probably thinking “What? You didn’t kiss!” Truth be told, I, along with Kate, thought purity to be key. Neither of us would kiss or go any father than hugs and hand holding until marriage. Making it that much sweeter and special when the moment will finally come. “Let’s walk down the beach” Kate said with a smile. Kate always had a beautiful and unique personality. Never again would I meet such a magnificent girl in my life. She enjoyed simple things in life; walking in the rain, leaves falling in the fall, dancing under the stars; she was special. Her morals and faith were so remarkable, and was a huge part of what made her shine brightly among the dimly lit others. “Okay” I said as we started off, the sun to our backs. The ocean’s breeze blew softly, her hair blowing so calmly and perfectly. Her bare feet and beautiful white sundress complimented her stunning features well; her ring twinkling softly in the fading sunshine. “I’m speechless!” she burst out, a tear gently gliding down her cheek. “It doesn’t matter; your eyes say it all.” I said starring into hers. “How did I ever get lucky enough to get you?” I asked quizzically. “I mean, what made you ever look twice at a guy like me?” Kate laughed happily. “I was the lucky one. Besides, it was God’s plan all along.” I smiled, “God; who knew He had such an amazing future in store for me.” I looked at Kate, and than up to the sky. “Thanks” I said, the stars popping out one by one in the twilight sky. “Tony, dance with me?” she asked, seeing the moon coming out. As I mentioned before, Kate found simple pleasure in her small term goals. One of those goals being to dance in the moonlight, wearing a white dress, with the ocean’s water’s lapping slowly ashore. “Any day” I said taking her hand. I pulled her in close, smiled, than twirled her back out, than back into my arms. We swayed to and fro, my arms around hers; Kate laughed. “It’s just like I always pictured it” she said as I twirled her out again, the bottom of her lacy dress taking the shape of a bell. “I knew waiting, and not chasing, would do the trick,” She teased. I pulled her in close again, “I’m glad you did.” “My mom will be so happy” Kate smiled, a happy, yet sad look appeared in her eyes, and I knew what she was thinking. “I’m sorry your dad didn’t live to walk you down the aisle Kate.” I said slowly, hugging her tightly. “Me too” she said, thinking. “I know that he is proud of you though, and that he will have the best seat in the house on our day!” I said reassuringly. Kate smiled, and I swayed slowly with her in my arms. “So, where, my dear, do you want to be married?” I asked, trying to bring up her spirits again. Kate looked up at me smiling; “That’s one thing that has always been foggy.” “What do you mean?” I asked. “I mean” she began, “ that I can’t figure out if I want to be married in the fall, in a wide open field, with brightly colored leaves flowing about..” “Or?” “Or if I want to be married on the beach, with the sea breeze blowing in, and the soft sand beneath our feet.” I smiled, “I’m sure you’ll have a dream of it one night.” By this time, the sun had completely set beneath the Earth, and the night was becoming briskly chilly. “Here” I said untying my sweater from around my waist, “Put this on.” I gently placed my blue jacket around her shoulders. “Hmm.” She sighed as she laid her head on my shoulder, “This night as been so romantic.” Kate suddenly laughed as if she had just remembered something. “I remember one time, at that Taco Shack, they had hot sauce packets, and one said on it, “Will you marry me?” “Kate startedchuckling again, “I remember being so afraid that I would end up getting a Taco from someone, and they use the packet to propose to me!” We stood there laughing. I picked up a white flower I had set aside and pinned it in her hair. I knew that this was who God had intended me to be with for the rest of my life; I just had not planned on the unexpected turning it upside down. 10 months ago Sorry, it ran too long to fit into one page. Anyways, please be honest and tell me what you think of it. If you dislike it, than that's just fine too! more

Resolved Question: to you girls into poetry what you think of this poem?

I couldn't stand to be in that place I was just about to leave, when I saw your face You were laughing at me with your beautiful mouth You said, 'You're looking miserable, do you want to get out?' 'That party was empty.' You said, and I agreed A whole house full of people But empty indeed So we took to the beach in my rusty 510 Falling in love We just didn't know it then When you're only 18 And you got nothing to lose And your living a dream With the sand in your shoes Falling in love is easy It's easy to do We fell in love with the windows rolled down Chasing the sunset through another empty town Your hair was a mess when you would dance on the coast Your silhouette, like some heavenly ghost When you're only 18 And you got nothing to lose And your living a dream With the sand in your shoes Falling in love is easy It's easy to do Summer skies and warm colored sunsets And a sunrise sneaking through my blinds My demise, I just can't help it It's suicide, looking in your pale blue eyes Falling in love is easy to do With the wind in your hair and the sand in your shoes And though it may hurt to have your heart broken in two That didn't stop me from falling for you When you're dancing on the beach where the water meets your feet And a cool ocean breeze is fighting the heat Falling in love is easy It's easy to do It's easy to do Oh I'm falling for you more

Voting Question: What is the deeper meaning of this poem?

ok well i think its about life or maybe its the authors view on death . . . this one is really given me struggle i usually can figure them out. no this is not homework. i just am really in love with poetry. the author is john whittier who is an abolitionist so it might have something to do with that... The sunlight glitters keen and bright, Where, miles away, Lies stretching to my dazzled sight, A luminous belt, a misty light, Beyond the dark pine bluffs and wastes of sandy gray. The tremulous shadow of the Sea! Against its ground Of silvery light, rock, hill, and tree, Still as a picture, clear and free, With varying outline mark the coast for miles around. On -- on -- we tread with loose-flung rein Our seaward way, Through dark-green fields and blossoming grain, Where the wild brier-rose skirts the lane, And bends above our heads the flowering locust spray. Ha ! like a kind hand on my brow Comes this fresh breeze, Cooling its dull and feverish glow, While through my being seems to flow, The breath of a new life,, - the healing of the seas! Now rest we, where this grassy mound His feet bath set In the great waters, which have bound His granite ankles greenly round With long and tangled moss, and weeds with cool spray wet. Good by to pain and care! I take Mine ease to-day : Here where these sunny waters break, And ripples this keen breeze, I shake All burdens from the heart, all weary thoughts away. I draw a freer breath -- I seem Like all I see -- Waves in the sun -- the white-winged gleam Of sea-birds in the slanting beam -- And far-off sails which flit before the south-wind free. So when Time's veil shall fall asunder, The soul may know No fearful change, nor sudden wonder, Nor sink the weight of mystery under, But with the upward rise, and with the vastness grow. And all we shrink from now may seem No new revealing; Familiar as our childhood's stream, Or pleasant memory of a dream The loved and cherished Past upon the new life stealing. Serene and mild the untried light May have its dawning; And, as in summer's northern night The evening and the dawn unite, The sunset hues of Time blend with the soul's new morning. I sit alone ; in foam and spray Wave after wave Breaks on the rocks which, stern and gray, Shoulder the broken tide away, Or murmers hoarse and strong through mossy cleft and cave. What heed I of the dusty land And noisy town? I see the mighty deep expand From its white line of glimmering sand To where the blue of heaven on bluer waves shuts down! In listless quietude of mind, I yield to all The change of cloud and wave and wind And passive on the flood reclined, I wander with the waves, and with them rise and fall. But look, thou dreamer! -- wave and shore In shadow lie; The night-wind warns me back once more To where, my native hilltops o'er, Bends like an arch of fire glowing sunset sky. So then, beach, bluff, and wave, farewell ! I bear with me No token stone nor glittering shell, But long and oft shall Memory tell Of this brief thoughtful hour of musing by the Sea. more

Resolved Question: My wife and I want to renew our vows, how and where ?

After ten years of marriage my wife and I would like to renew our wedding vows. We don't want anything to lavish and would be taking our children to be part of the service, if possible we would incorporate 2 weeks sun holiday. Ideally my wife would like a palm beach ceremony with sunset photographs of the occasion. We live in the UK and would like suggestions of a palm beach as close to the UK as possible, does anyone know of such a location or maybe know someone that has done exactly this without having traveled to far. Thank you more

Resolved Question: Our first date (and mine). Is this a bad idea?

I asked a girl on a date for this Saturday, and I know she really likes me. I was thinking of this: 1. Meeting her in the small downtown area of my city (she lives 8-12 miles away) 2. Getting really good frozen yogurt, and heading down to the beach 3. Watching the sunset, walk on the pier, talk, etc. 4. After sunset, get dinner on the beach (at a not-too fancy restaurant). [IF WE HAVE TIME] I am almost fifteen, and she is fourteen and a half. Is this too cheesy, romantic, etc. for us? We haven't kissed yet, but we've danced a whole lot and feel comfortable with each other. I was thinking of kissing her and explaining my feelings sometime between #2-3. I've never gone on a date with a girl before, but I feel I could actually handle this. more

Resolved Question: I was an extra in a movie in a sunset scene on Imperial Beach pier shot around 1989-1990...what film?

Any ideas what film this could be? They did three takes of a guy walking up opposite me (I wasn't supposed to look at him so I never found out who the actor was, it could have been anybody) right at sunset. I still remember what I was wearing; blue jeans, a day-glow green tank top, and I believe a straw hat. I was in my late teens. more

Resolved Question: Why do people from the British Isles move to Florida?

I live in Florida. The Tampa Bay area. I am also an artist. I create surreal or fantasy landscapes in which I use a lot of photos of places like the British Isles and elsewhere in my work. Why? I like the hilly fairytale landscapes with the topiary gardens, ruins and hedgerows, etc. I would love to live in the British Isles and walk among those places. I realize that it gets cold and it is frequently cloudy there. I like a cloudy day now and then but too many can be depressing. Here in Florida, it is sunny most of the time. It is also hot and humid most of the time. We need to have the air conditioning on at least eight months each year. What I mainly dislike about Florida is the terrain. It is flat and modern housing developments are everywhere. There are no mountains at all and very few hills or valleys. To me, this gives one a sense of perspective when you are up on a hill looking over the landscape. Here in florida, out in the country (what's left of it) it is just flat palmetto scrub and thin pine trees in the interior. The beaches at sunset are nice when they aren't too crowded but otherwise you cannot walk anywhere. If you approach a field or lake that hasn't been developed yet, you aren't allowed to get too close because they are always fenced off with 'no tress-passing ' signs everywhere. Yet I meet people from England or Ireland who have moved here and it baffles me. Do you realize how truly beautiful your countries are? more

Voting Question: Is this a bad idea for a first date?

I took a girl to a high school dance last week, and everything seemed fine; we both had a good time. She's still flirting with me, and I asked her on a date for this Saturday. I am almost fifteen, and she is fourteen and a half. Is this too cheesy, romantic, etc. for us? We haven't kissed yet, but we've danced a whole lot and feel very comfortable with each other. more
