Resolved Question: Help with Orlando Hotel for me and 5 year old son?

I need a little help with planning a trip to orlando with my 5 year old son. Its our 1st time going to Orlando, Florida :) I have only booked my flights so far, could anyone recommend a good hotel for the 1st two weeks of march 2011? I was about to book Holiday Inn Club Vacations Orlando - Orange Lake Resort, which looks like a great resort, our own kitchen (to save a bit of money) and the pools and everything looks amazing..however after reading reviews on trip advisor there seems to be a LOT of extra costs, like $9 a day for tubes for the lazy river and $15 each for a shuttle bus to the disney parks etc. :/ and i plan to go to the disney parks almost everyday for the 2 weeks! My friend told me some hotels offer free shuttle buses to the parks and i came across Gaylord Palms, another gorgeous hotel but they only have small rooms with no kitchen so we'll have to eat out everynight. I've searched the internet and the two best hotels i could find (in my price range was these 2 hotels). Would it be too much hassle maybe booking 1 week in the Holiday Inn, Orange Lake and 1 week in Gaylord Palms? As we'd get free shuttles in one hotel and great pools in the other! Or should i book into the same hotel for the 2 weeks? I'm so confused! Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels? Could anybody recommend any other good hotels around the disney area, preferably with free shuttles to the parks, and good pools, and lots of things to do at the hotel, as i plan to spent the rest of the holiday relaxing at the hotel. Also Im not goin to rent a car as its only me and my son and with the cost of parking at disney, fuel and the Daily Surcharge for drivers under 25, it wouldnt be worth it. Whats the weather like the 1st two weeks of March? Also which parks would you recommend for a 5 year old? We would like to go on holiday near a beach on the Californian coast, but we're not really sure where to go. We were thinking somewhere maybe within an hour of LA and Hollywood but we don't know what it's like. We went to Florida a few years ago and would like to go somewhere like Clearwater (nr. My family and I are from Tampa, FL and my son has a project where he has to pick-up trash from the beach. (because he is learning about real life superheroes vs tv superheroes) So if anybody can give me a good secluded beach to go to that would be great. We're NOT interested in the following beaches: Ben T. Davis, Clearwater, St. Pete, or that really crappy one in Tarpon Springs. I just don't want it to be super busy like Clearwater.We're not having very much luck at the beaches. Which is both fortunate and unfortunate. Resolved Question: Need help deciding on place to move - have various possibilities?

I recently got married, and my husband absolutely hates where we live now and wants to move. In fact, I agreed to move before we got married (unfortunately). I have only lived in three states in my life - born in California (but would never live there again), then moved to Arkansas (don't want to live there again either), and currently reside in Tulsa, OK. Now I know a lot of you people from big urban cities would probably hate it here, but I actually really like living here and have lived here for 17 years. The city is just big enough to have a variety of things to do, traffic is not a problem, and the way of life is perfect for me here. All my family is within 2 hours from me (my family is very important to me), I have lots of friends here, job I love, house I love, etc.....I REALLY don't want to move, but I said I would make a compromise and move. My husband is originally from India (has no relatives here in the U.S.), and has lived in the U.S. since 2002. He lived in Philadelphia for 6 years and then moved to Tulsa for a job (that's how we met). Anyway, after being here, he found out he really doesn't like it here. He prefers the big city living (as in Philly), because you can travel by train or car and get to so many different places (New York, beaches, etc) in not much time, loves the urban city part like all the activities of a downtown life, and likes the "character" of the Northeast much better than the South. Yes, I realize that Oklahoma is pretty flat, but the weather here is much better in my opinion, and yes, we do have hills, trees, grass, etc. here too. It's not really fair to make a comparison of the two areas because the climate, terrain is completely different, but I guess it's what you become accustomed to. So basically, he and I are pretty opposite in how we want to live, but we think we can make a compromise that we both can live with. Now we just have to decide on a city. He would love to go back to Philly, but the thought of living in the Northeast part of the U.S. is not appealing to me at all - I HATE THE COLD WEATHER and it is SO FAR AWAY from my family and friends. I personally think the Dallas, TX area would be a good compromise, but he said he definitely doesn't want to stay there the rest of his life - he says it's too hot and has no character. We already BOTH have some friends there, it's not too far from Tulsa (so easy to travel back and forth), definitely a big city, and large airport for traveling (he is a traveling consultant, so having a big airport nearby is crucial). Some other options that we are looking at are Atlanta, Tampa Bay or St. Petersburg area, Miami maybe, and Charlotte, NC. I'm trying to focus on areas in the South or Southeast mainly. These aren't the only options, and am open to other suggestions. I've only traveled through Atlanta, Tampa, and Miami - never been to NC at all. So I have no idea what it would be like to live there or what kind of cities these places are. If anyone could provide any insight on how it is to live in any of these places, that would be great. We're just trying to blend a little of what we both want and find somewhere that would be good for both of us. So key points are: bigger city that has large airport nearby, lots of activity (like downtown life, etc), nicer weather than in the north, somewhere where you can drive your car to work (around a 30 min commute is fine) and not have to take pulic transportation, a fairly central place where you can drive a few hours and get to other interesting places, and nice housing opportunities (I definitely cannot do condo type living and prefer a suburban house with at least a 2 car garage). Thanks for any help!St. Louis and Kansas City are out - he already said no to those, which is fine with me also. Please don't think that my husband is entirely inflexible. Afterall, I don't want to go North either. Hadn't thought of Nashville, but will check it out. As far as kids, not sure that's in the cards for us. I'm already 43 (no kids), and while it's not out of the realm of possiblity, the chance of that happening at this point for me probably are not good. So schools are really aren't a primary concern. I know Dallas and Atlanta areas are HUGE and there's so many places to live. What would be some good options as far as an area to buy a home? We both make really good money, so a home around $300K $400K is not out of the question for us in the Dallas area. I know the Frisco area of Dallas is pretty far out and the Fort Worth area is pretty sparse - so probably will stay away from those two. Don't know anything about Atlanta or what areas are good/bad. more

We will be going to Tampa, FL for a vacation in Mid April. We have booked a stay at a kitchen suite on the Bay near the airport for our stay. I used to come down and work in Daytona Beach over the summer so I know about the summertime heat, humidity, and thunderstorms. I am wondering what type of clothing we should bring for our stay in Mid April. It will be my fiance' and me, and the kids boy 11, girl 14.Should I be packing shorts and t-shirts or winter jackets and pants? more

Resolved Question: Do you get your money's worth with the All Day Dining Passes at Sea World parks?

We're going to be traveling to Florida for our kids' spring break and I was wondering how economical the dining passes are. The Sea World & Busch Gardens Tampa Bay all-day dining passes (with 6 & 7 participating food vendors respectively) are $105 per day for my family of four and the Aquatica all-day dining pass would be $72 per day for their "Banana Beach Cook-out". We get free breakfast with our hotel accommodations, but I can see us easily staying at the parks late enough for dinner. For those of you who have purchased (or not purchased) these dining plans - do you consider the value and variety worth the money or would you recommend eating a la carte? It seems easier to me to get the wristband and get unlimited entrees, sides, deserts, and non-alcoholic beverages all day rather than pass around or have to carry cash or credit cards in the park, especially if we split up into pairs occasionally. I know that three of us have easily spent $60 on one meal at Six Flags before, so by comparison to that I feel like this would be a great deal. I haven't been to any of the parks we're visiting, however, so I don't know how the total price compares to the individual costs of food. more

Resolved Question: Why do people from the British Isles move to Florida?

I live in Florida. The Tampa Bay area. I am also an artist. I create surreal or fantasy landscapes in which I use a lot of photos of places like the British Isles and elsewhere in my work. Why? I like the hilly fairytale landscapes with the topiary gardens, ruins and hedgerows, etc. I would love to live in the British Isles and walk among those places. I realize that it gets cold and it is frequently cloudy there. I like a cloudy day now and then but too many can be depressing. Here in Florida, it is sunny most of the time. It is also hot and humid most of the time. We need to have the air conditioning on at least eight months each year. What I mainly dislike about Florida is the terrain. It is flat and modern housing developments are everywhere.There are no mountains at all and very few hills or valleys. To me, this gives one a sense of perspective when you are up on a hill looking over the landscape. Here in florida, out in the country (what's left of it) it is just flat palmetto scrub and thin pine trees in the interior. The beaches at sunset are nice when they aren't too crowded but otherwise you cannot walk anywhere. If you approach a field or lake that hasn't been developed yet, you aren't allowed to get too close because they are always fenced off with 'no tress-passing ' signs everywhere. Yet I meet people from England or Ireland who have moved here and it baffles me. Do you realize how truly beautiful your countries are? more

I want to send my friend to Tampa on a much needed Vacation(Tampa was her choice). From looking at things online it seems St. Petersburg has nice beaches. Are the beaches sou rounding Tampa Bay any good? I kind of wanted to get her a Hotel near the Salvador Dali Museum but not if there are no good beaches for her to go to around there. I just know she will want to check that Museum out. So she is not going to have a car and she will only be staying three nights. I'd like to buy my dad a few nice lures for fishing the inlets and bays around Tampa in Feb. I'm looking for good all-around lures. We normally fish fresh water so I have ideas of what will work, but I would like advice on what works best. Interested in buying a well-rounded set so he can try a variety of different situations. Hi, I am thinking about moving to Florida. I like the location of Lakeland that is being between Orlando and Tampa two larger town. But I do not know about life in Lakeland itself. Tampa may be nice because if beach and bay area life with lots of art and culture. Orlando is also attractive because its international even most are tourists, I think I would like the idea of meeting people from different part of the country. We are going for a vacation in October to Bradenton and Sarasota and we have two 2 years old boys, so we are looking everywhere in the stores around here (Virginia)and online for SWIM FLOAT SUIT for our kids, but nobody have anything anymore ,because everybody think that the summer is over(really depressing) so I was wonder if we can still find something in Tampa bay area, Bradenton or Sarasota in October because I went in February and the weather was great(85 degrees ) and we went to the beach with my kids and was incredible.(I LOVE FLORIDA) So can we still find bathing suit for us and swim float suit for our little one so they can be safe and enjoy the ocean. I'm part of a fraternity that is holding its annual national convention in Tampa Bay, Fl. this year. My chapter is repsonsibile for arranging convention gifts to give out to the members. We are on a $25 budget for each person and around 200+ are expected to attend. Need ideas for gifts we can hand out, this is the first time the national convention is going to be held outside of the fraternity's home state of Texas, so we were thinking something florida or beach themed. Suggestions? Obviously we want impress the other members so we want new things rather then the orignal ideas of key chains, bags, water bottles, etc...it would be nice if anyone could provide sites the customize gifts with our logo more

I'm having a beach wedding in February in the Tampa Bay area, and want to have a wedding dress suited for that. Temperatures are normally between 50 and 70 degrees for that time of year. I want to wear a fairly simple dress, suited for "frolic" at the beach, yet still long and somewhat elegant. Dresses at normal bridal boutiques seem to be too formal, but I don't know where else to look. Any suggestions?I've tried J Crew's, but they're around 800 dollars and up, I'm only budgeting 300 dollars since it shouldn't be a traditional gown. more
