Open Question: Nice places to live in UK?
currently live in Manchester and I'm looking to move somewhere nicer and more rural in mainland Britain (that's England, Scotland or Wales). I'm looking for somewhere relaxing, surrounded by countryside and near a beach, with reasonable house prices, somewhere with a variety of available jobs less than 1 hour's drive away. Any suggestions? moreOpen Question: ***Where is the best spot to sea\beach fish in Wales?***?
Hi All, Im trying to find the best place to sea\Beach fish in Wales. Iv tried llandudno, Barmouth and Swansea - not bad. I was wondering where the NUMBER 1 spot is for fishing in Wales during February? Many thanks Immy moreResolved Question: Where would you choose to spend a couple months in Australia, (1) Townsville, (2) Cairns, or (3) Byron Bay?
I would like to come to Australia for a couple of months, probably beginning in April, and base myself somewhere where I could ride my road bike (preferably hard, in a group), do some writing, and perhaps find some people to play country music with. Good beaches, low (relatively) cost of housing, access to airport, and interesting environment are important. Ability to pick up some off-the-books side work a plus, but not required. Have been to Oz before including all the above locations and am leaning toward Townsville area, but would consider other places such, as Cairns or northern New South Wales coast. Florida resident. Any thoughts appreciated. moreResolved Question: How many bullets does it take to kill a whale?
I know, I know, It's awful, it's a travesty against the greatest and most gentle animal in the world, and also very illegal if you don't live in Japan or China, BUT in my defense, this whale is a total jerk. I live in Hawaii, so there are whales abound, and they're all nice, except for this Albino Blue whale. Naturally, I call him Ahab. I go against the flow. The problem started when I took my wife and kids out for the day to see the whales. It was going great, we saw one for sure, and we think we saw another, but then along came Ahab, and since he's huge and reflective, we definitely saw him, because he rammed into the side of our boat. I know what you're gonna say "Oh, he was nudging you, being playful! He wanted to be friends!" No. We could tell it was malicious because after he would ram us he would swim alongside us, glaring at us, individually. I didn't even know that whales could frown until I saw him doing it! So he keeps ramming the boat, and eventually, my son falls overboard. This is terrifying, and justly so, because no sooner than my son was in the water, he swam ahead of us and opened his mouth, and swam at my son. We pulled him onto the boat just in time, and thwarted, the whale rammed the boat angrily, causing us to loose our car keys. Next month, I'm standing on the beach, as I often do, near where our boat is docked. Then something white catches my eye among the waves. It's the whale, somehow resisting the tide that would beach most other wales. Yes, He followed me home, and what's more, he swam up and down the beach as I walked it. It's about that time my wife starts calling my cats name, when I ask her, she says he can't find the otherwise house-bound cat. Its at this time I realize that no ammount of searching will yield our cat, unless there is a search conducted on Ahab's digestive system. He ate my cat. It's war. So, I refrain to my question; How much lead will I have to pour into this beast?I'm pretty confident that I'm hilarious. moreResolved Question: how do i get married on a beach in the uk?

I dont usually dream.. well.. i dont remember them when i wake up.. but i sometimes have a few i remember. It seems to be the long ones that include possible death that i remember. The first one.... At the time, i was in Wales on holiday at Camarthen bay, my nan owned a challet so we stayed there. The challet was very close to the beach, you could see it out of the window. It was only about a 15-20 second walk away. It was really weird that i had this dream as i had bought a dream book the day before (which i have lost now) but it never helped. In the dream... The dream was at the challet and I was in bed and heard some noise, so i went into the living room to look out the window and saw big black storm clouds with tornados ripping everything from the ground, all the other challets were being destroyed. The next thing i knew, i was being put onto the top bunk bed in the other bedroom (which i used to sleep in there when i was younger) with my grandad and was being told to hold on tight and close my eyes, so i did. I opened them again and surprisingly the challet was still there, the tornados had gone and not done anything to it. I walked back into the living room, looked out the window to see a big volcano VERY close to the challet, it was erupting. I heard my nan shout at me to get in the car, i saw her trying to get her cats (i know that if something like this did happen she would never leave them behind), then she stopped and ran out to the car. I was not going to leave the cats like she did so i tried to grab them like i do to pick them up, but the cat just seemed to jump out of my arms. Lava started pouring in through underneath the beachdoor and i heard the car start and drive off.. without me and the cats. Then i woke up. My grandparents and brothers had decided to go shopping and leave me in bed and i think that the starting of the car in my dream was actually them leaving. The second one.... I was walking down an alley next to a park (well... sort of an alley... its very pubic and open) with a good friend in the dark, i said to her that i hate walking here in the dark and she replied that she did too, but usually i dont mind walking down there in the dark. Its usually well lit but this seemed darker. The next thing she stopped walking so naturally i stopped with her, looked up and saw a man standing there with a gun pointed towards us telling us to go away (i assumed he was a drug dealer) so i told him that we are going and turned to walk through the park. We were sort of running to get away. We stopped when he couldnt see us anymore and sort of laughed it off thinking it was all over. Till the man came round the other corner and this time more people were running from him. So we started running again but we didnt know where to. We found ourselves lost, in a place full of flats that looked like the place where my step grandparents live in great yarmouth, its like a maze. We walked around a bit trying to find our way then my friend bumped into someone and started to shout, i recognised the person to be another close friend. I told my friend to calm down and its ok because i know her. The person just walked off and my friend changed somehow into my best friend, Bee. Bee started running around the flats like she was searching for something, i asked her what she was doing and she replied she was trying to get me home. We were standing outsite a block of flats. For some reason i was certain i should go in the flats, so i did. I explained to Bee that this is where that man with the gun hangs out (I have no idea how i knew that). We went to the top floor that seemed to be like a common room full of people we didnt know. Bee changed back into my friend. I stood with my back to the entrance of the room so that if the man walked in, he wouldnt see me. My friend sat in front of me as if she were using me to hide from the man too. We heard the man walk in, he just sat at a table with some friends and started talking. I turned to my friend and whispered not to leave at the same time as me but after me to avoid suspicion as i was closer to the stairs leading out. A dog (i think it was a jack russle) that seemed to be VERY pregnant walked towards me, it was infront of me but stopped to sit and scratch its bum about 4ft in front of me. The man said out loud...whats that dog doing. I replied its scratching its bum. Again, he asked whats wrong with it. This time, i said that its because the dogs pregnant. He asked again and i said it was scratching again. I didnt turn round at all. I decided to leave down the stairs, luckily i didnt have to face the man to go. I got outside and ran as fast as i could. I looked behind me to see people running after me. I ran to the side quite close to someone running, i was sure i was going to get caught but he just stopped running. I stopped. I realised they werent chasing me. There was a river to the side, it looked a bit like a part of the river ouse in Bedford (wher moreResolved Question: Can I catch and then cook mussels straight from the beach or do they have to be specially prepared?

Me and my family currently live in Parramatta, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia but we are moving to Melbourne next year. Can anyone identify this insect? I found it on my carpet after going for a run along the beach. I live on the North Wales Coast. It is about 3-4cm in length (that is a pint glass it is in) I jumps a little when disturbed. At first I thought it was a cockroach, but it does not have the smooth segmented back for that, and its head is distinctly separate from its body. Its back legs look slightly similar to those of a grasshopper, but not quite big enough. The more specific the identification the better, but to any level would be helpful. 3 dreams im mentioning because they are ones i have not been able to forget for a long time, and remembering them still makes me uncomfortable for some reason. the first was about a year ago, I was dreaming that i was in this house, pretty normal house, but all the people who lived their were gone. the house did not scare me, it actually seemed sorta familiar, but their was something in the house that made me uncomfortable, so i started running and fell down some stairs. when i got up the house was gone, instead there was this massive room with what looked like ghosts all around, i walked around trying to ask where i was but they all ignored me, most of them seemed to be wearing clothes you'd see from around the 1750's, others wore more modern attire. that's about where the dream ended. about a month ago i had another dream, i was in a large house with some friends, though i never saw their faces in the dream, it was late because i noticed out a window that it was black, and when i turned around one of my "friends" jumped out with a mask on and started screaming, then the lights went out. i had laughed until the lights in the house went off and something black, like smoke, started coming out of a box under a table, me and only about 2 of the people started running, i started running for the basement cause i felt that it was safe, i ran down the stairs and pushed a fake wall partition out of the way and what i saw was the large room from the first dream, but there were only 2 of the spectres in their, and i could only find 1 of the people who followed me, a girl. the room was big, about 3 stories high and a football field long as i remember it, and it had a single kitchen island ion the center by the ghosts by it. this time th ghosts took notice of me, one was an elderly women around 70, dressed in an 1800's style gown, the other was an even older man dressed in some kind of suit. when i started to speak to them, they told me to keep it down and wait for them to finish talking, so i waled back to tthe stairs and closed the door to wait, about atht time the elderly woman came to speak to me, then i woke up. and last night i had a dream that just feels wierd whenever i picture it, i was in a small wooden boat, like the old lifeboats from Galleons. and there was a woman behind me i never wanted to look at, and a small man with a straw hat and wearing dark green rowing the boat, who refused to acknowledge me. we wee in some sort of canyon, both sides of the canyon i could see walls going up for what seemed 100m or so into fog, and in the light fog around me i saw what looked like Galleons and sloops standing with one end or just the sails outta water. tehy looked real old, and around them theyre were something like glowing forms flying, i reached down and picked up something out of the water that had an Ace of Spades on it, and the woman told me not to keep it, but i put it down by my feet. i sat there for a while until i looked up and the small man was gone and we were against shore, i stepped out to see a beach of purple sand with black bones reaching out in places, and red plants in a jungle beyond, i was still in the canyon and when i looked at the ace of spades it was a different color, the white box-like object it was on turned black and it had turned white, the young woman who was with me muttered something and then i woke up. i explained these to the best of my memory, because always the day after i have one of these, i see something weird or something odd happens, normally something taht no one else notices, so i though it might be best to ask someone.2nd dream fogot to mention one detail, left my computer for a while so i forgot, but before i was running downstairs i was hiding in a room and the man who had run away fom the smoke with me knocked on the door of the room and told me to come on out and take the easy way,, i did see his face, he was wearing all black, with a shirt that kinda extended down to his knees but was split at the waist in the front so it was only coming farther down on his sides and back. he was weird looking with pale skin and glowing green eyes, and jet black hair. whats weird is that he was a drawing i had made 3 months prior when i was drawing in class what i thought a "angel" would look like, he had wings in what i drew in real life, but not in the dream.P.S> my family has had history with paranormal events, my mother herself has predicted the death of many family members of our family, and my brother can consciously communicate with non-corporeal beings i.e. ghosts, because he has been able to tell me exactly what i write in the basement when hes locked in his room, he claims to have asked his friends. and personally my weird dreams precede strange or significant events, 53 minutes ago just got a call from my fried that my school caught fire. moreResolved Question: Would You rather live in The UK or America?
I am an American, and I'm 15, and never been out of this country. I've always always wanted to live the United Kingdom (Maybe Cardiff?) and am even trying to save to do a student exchange program next summer. I was just wondering, if you live in the UK, would you rather live there or in the US? If you'd rather live in the US, where would you want to live? If you'd rather live in the UK, where you live now, and where you would like to live inside that country. I'm from New Jersey (If you ever come to the US, don't touch that state with a ten foot pole, its the last place you'd ever want to live. eh, well maybe texas would be worse) and I want to live in the UK because I love geography of Wales and Scotland, and the history of England. I like the better religious tolerance, and the more new world attitude. I love the foggy rainy weather (I know, little weird, but you haven't ever been to los vegas, where I got 3rd degree burns on my feet from walking across sidewalk barefoot in 116 degree weather) and I perfer the use of the metric system and the more economical cars and greener ways of thinking. free health care, more beaches, greater use of public transportation, the smaller homes and cars, the interesting monarchy and government, the famous British humor and wit, and ability to travel to countries like France, Germany, and Spain with much greater ease, the better vocabulary, etc. And of course, the accent. I also want to escape that gun toting, religious, red neck, uninformed, stupid American stereotype. moreVoting Question: i found a few transparent stones on the beach and im wondering what they are?

I live in Towyn in North Wales and I heard that Northern parts of Britain are on flood alert, and I'm starting to get worried. There was a flood in Towyn a few years ago in 1990, before we moved into our house 4-5 years ago. There is a line in our hallway around the wall and that shows where the water came up to - it goes halfway between my knee and waist. As we are in danger of flooding where I live, what exactly are the council doing about it? Aren't they supposed to start handin out sandbags? I'm so so worried about my home being ruined and all our stuff that we can't replace like photographs and having to move out. What exactly are the risks? I mean it's been 19 years and there's been a wall put up on the beach since then. But is it really so likely to happen? moreResolved Question: A place in Wales to stay that has a beach?

New research by "Visit Wales" researched what visitors thought of Wales? The research found people enjoyed the Welsh countryside, mountains and beaches. They also liked seeing Castles. They said Cardiff without the Millenium Stadium was just another city, which I agree with. It's only on matchdays that you truly see Cardiff as a capitol city. However the part of the research I found really offensive was where it said whilst visitors from most countries (especially Ireland, France and Scotland) enjoyed hearing the Welsh language being spoken, the English hated it. I live in Wales and start a new job at an RAF base next week. We have a German Shepherd who usually stays in the house during the day. My current job allows me to come home at lunch time, so her current daily schedule is; - 45 minute walk/run in the morning before work with my partner 7.30am-12.15pm -- On her own in the house with a radio playing -15 min frisbee session in a field at lunch with me, follwed by some cuddles!! 12.45pm-5.15pm -- On her own in the house with a radio playing -45 min walk/run/frisbee in the evening with me or my partner Once I start my new job (which is also where my partner works) I will be too far away to go home at lunch. So, we have got her into the RAF Dog kennels which are situated near my new work building (2 min walk away). They are day kennels, with an individual dog 'house' (big enough for humans to walk into) probably approx about 8ft by 8ft? and an attached small individual run. There will be no radio for her during the day, but I plan to talk her out on the nearby beach every morning before she goes into the kennel, and then take her out for a 15 min walk at lunch the same as I used to before. Obviously she will get her standard evening walk aswell. So she will be in 'day kennels' from 9am-12.15pm and 12.30pm to 5pm. Does any one have any suggestions to make the transistion less stressful for her please? She is a very well behaved dog, quite quiet, fully housetrained and always behaves herself at normal kennels. Also any (non-expensive) ideas for keeping her warm in the winter months? I'm currently trying to aquire some old carpet to line the indoor part of the kennel with, and i will also put some straw down as well as her normal bed. Do you think this will be sufficient? Any (mature) suggestions/comments appreciated. Thanks.Just to let you know if you are not away, average temperatures for where I live in winter are - highs of 10 degrees C, lows of 3 degrees C.Hey - in response to the person that suggested hiring a dog walker -- 1) As it is an RAF kennel it works out at approx £1.50 per week to board her 9-5. 2) She is a rescue dog and is not the best with strangers so we could not trust her with a dog walker unless it was someone we know -- which poses more problems. There are other dogs in the kennels so she will be around other dogs. I think one of the ladies I will be working with owns the kennels and has one of the RAF working German Shepherds there, she takes her dog out on the beach at lunch time too so the plan is to go out with them some lunches. Thanks for everyones comments so far. : ) moreResolved Question: anyone know any cheap campsites (for tents!) in north wales?

I'm just wondering... is it bad to not go to a college centered in fashion when that's my major? Will I be looked at less when I go to look for jobs after I graduate? I was looking at Northern Arizona University, Johnson and Wales, or Cal State Long Beach. If anyone has any other schools to recommend for that major, please let me know! moreVoting Question: Talacre beach, what do you think?
I just cam back from a two week holiday at Talacre beach in wales, and i loved it! The site was great, and the entertainment was great too, especially the krazy krew. I thought Kayleigh, Tish & Kj were so good, they have really inspired me, i love them! :) Now that's what i wanna do, i want to be part of the krazy krew there, and dance & play games with the kids! One thing, do you have to have a talent to be able to work there like be a good singer? Because i can't sing, but i don't want it to mean i can't get a job there because i really do wanna work there. :) Any advice, or information about it would be helpful, like qualifications, how do i apply, is it good pay, good job, what age do you have to be? What do you think? and if there is anyone that actually works there, or has work there in the past advice would be good and your opinion on the job :) Thank you, please reply xx moreResolved Question: What is there to to in Wales?

Does anyone else hate the fact that if you decide to walk across a political border you will be forcefully removed? Its not a problem here in the UK as i can walk into Wales and Scotland if i choose. But so what if i decide to get on a boat and travel to France, set up on a beach and live my life there? Does anyone hate immigration rules? Why cant people live wherever they want? It is human instinct to explore and move. Thats how humans got out of Africa. Does anyone hate political boundaries? Does anyone think the earth would be better off without countries? Think about why wars are started, and then think about what the status of a country has to do with it. Sure, i they were no countries there would be civil wars, humans are instinctively selfish/evil, but they would be smaller scale as their would be no pride in a country or hording of resources. Lots of questions, have fun answering them. Also, why does this site recommend i put all my questions in LGBT?No, im not talking about a one world government - im talking about NO government. moreResolved Question: Advice on a possible charity swim?
hi, I've been swimming in an indoor pool for some time now doing 3k a session and was interested now in doing my own charity swim for autism awareness as I have an autistic son. The swim would be over a distance of 10k from aberavon beach in south wales in a straight line to the mumbles lighthouse, so this is a direct 10k swim out to sea. I was just wondering if this is safe to do?? I plan on training for around 9months before attempting the swim. any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. moreResolved Question: What do you think of the start to my story?
Please feel free to speak your mind about if you think i have potential, which i dont think i do lol. Thanks :-) It was a perfect sunny day in L.A, the sun was gleaming, and the sky was a perfect shade of blue and not one cloud in sight. I was wearing my favourite outfit for this type of weather a black and pink spotted bikini, lounging it up on the terrace of my apartment, it was sheer bliss. This was nothing like where I used to live, in a small, drab old village in South Wales, United Kingdom, where big, dark, black clouds hung over the town like an omen. There I lived with my older twin brother Cameron, my sister, Stephanie and both my parents, Alannah and James. It goes without saying my brother and I always looked a lot like each other, with dark brown hair and big, bold green eyes. Since we were young we have always been close and although he is only ten minutes younger than me he has always acted as if he were ten years older. Stephanie our younger sister is seventeen years old and we also have two other twin brothers, Jamie and Johnathon who are twenty eight. I hated living in Wales, it was always so cold and wet, where everyone knew everyone else’s business and if they didn’t they would sure find a way. Man it feels so good to be lying here in this blistering heat. ‘’Hey there gorgeous’’ I heard from the right of me. The apartment I live in is beautiful; it has everything a small town girl could have ever wished for, with an outdoor swimming pool on the lower terrace a bathroom I could play baseball in and a bedroom that could fit ten queen size beds, the only downside was that the top terrace and the balcony are conjoined with the neighbours, the only separation being a Perspex wall. I turned my head to reveal a stunning looking guy staring right at me grinning like a Cheshire cat. The guy had tame, light brown curly hair just above his shoulders, dark tanned body, and an athletic physique; he must have been around ten feet tall and was completely dazzling. ‘’Hey’’ I replied in a bored tone of voice, returning my head to its original position. ’Stunning view isn’t it?’’ I turned my head back towards him. ‘’The view, of the scenery’’ he sniggered nodding towards the beach. I let out an uninterested laugh and got up and walked into my apartment without another word or any other acknowledgment towards him, I could hear him laughing to himself and a huge grin spread across my face. In the apartment I started to make myself a Mojito, I grabbed a highball glass from the cupboard and added two teaspoons of sugar to it, three sprigs of mint and lime juice, I then mashed it all up, added the rum and ice, poured the tonic water and garnished it with lime slices, mint and a straw, without being modest it looked and tasted perfect, and so it should now that I have bought a club. The club has proved to be very successful with big celebrity names like Paris Hilton and Rihanna attending. The name is original of course and self titled, ’The Club’. I have never been neither creative nor an inventive person and found this name very necessary. I took a sip of my delicious Mojito, put the T.V on and sat in front of it. It was four o’clock in the afternoon and T.V listings in America were nothing like British T.V, that’s the only thing I miss about living in the U.K along with family, after flicking through nearly every channel I switched it back off and went to run myself a bath, ready for my night out on the tiles. It was so peaceful laying in the bath, no one disturbing me and the only noise being the luxurious bubbles crackling gently around me, I felt like I had died and gone to heaven, I took a big sip of my Mojito and remembered all the times I would have to state an announcement each time I wanted to go in the shower or bath when I lived back at home, and even then I still couldn’t get any privacy. I closed my eyes, I was awoken but a huge scream and what sounded like a few men laughing, I looked at the time it was six o’ clock I had fallen asleep for two hours and the water was freezing, I looked around and could see bits of mint and lime floating around and realised I had dropped my glass into the water. I grabbed a towel off the shelf and got out. An hour later I was sitting fully dressed on the top terrace smoking a cigarette. I decided to wear white cropped shorts; a black top that slouched off the shoulder and black platform shoes, my long brown hair was curly with sultry looking eyes and highly glossed lips. I took a puff on my cigarette and could hear male voices from next door, it was weird I had lived here in Malibu two years and had never had anyone else live next door to me.Yeah I thought I focused on the trivial like the bath and the making of the mojito, and I have been trying to minimise it but its quite difficult lol. I only started this tonight but thanks for your opinions they are more encouraging than i thought they would be, I actually grinned like a cheshire cat reading lmao.Any other details like how to be less chatty would be appreciated thanks :-)Astrobat, you have been the most detailed with the replies, and have helped me quite a deal, I wish there was another way of contacting you, as I said I have only started this tonight and have all these ideas in my head but can’t find a way to get them down like I imagine them. I never wanted it to be chatty but the first chapters are about the character being lonely and I am not quite sure how else to put this across. I have never done anything like this before so it’s a new thing to me as you can definitely tell lol. Thanks again to you all for your constructive criticism I actually thought I would get insults so its appreciated lol. moreVoting Question: Things to do dring the summer holidays ..?

Ok me and my girlfriend coming in early August, both fit, late 20's, staying roughly in the Darling Harbour area, here's what we got so far... price EXCLUDES lodging, food, and drinks. Day 1 Begins early 8am ish, head to Darling Harbour, check out the Royal Botanical Gardens, Art Gallery of New South Wales, shops, restaurant the opera house, walk over the harbour bridge (not doing the climb, on a tight budget. Once over the bridge, i draw a blank? I know I've been in some cities when you cross the bridge their ain't too much, so any suggestions at this point? Night 1 the Aquarium. Cost: $62.00 ASD (aquarium) Day 2 The blue mountains, want to see Katoomba falls, this fall aboutaustralia.com/a2it_package/… the caves, and whatever wildlife we can spot. Ok, question 1, walk way, cable way, sky ride? Can we get by with just a rental car and good hiking shoes? Speaking of rental cars, looks like cost of the train is over $40ASD each, so logic tells me we should just rent a car? We'd like to get there at sunrise, leave at sunset (can we do that stuff in that time?). Back to Sydney, night 2, bars! Cost $80-??? ASD (car or train+bus) Day 3 Assuming we rented the car... UIuru, Hunter Valley for the wine stuff, or Jervis Bay, whale watch or just enjoy an isolated beach. Probable overnight stay here. COST: Rental Car. Day 4 Return the car. Take the ferry to Manly beach, do the Manly to spit bridge walk. I know it's August, but i'm thinking of doing it polar bear style and jumping in some of the rock pools along the way if applicable. Okay we're at the spit bridge, now what? Night 3, dinner or drinks around the rocks. Cost: $14.00 ASD Manly Ferry Day 5 Back to the beach, from central station take the 374 bus to Coogee Beach (no transfers right?) head to Coogee, walk to Bondi Beach. Put on my polar bear costume, rent surf board and wet suit, brave the water for whatever I can tolerate. Anything else while here? Take bus back to darling harbour. Night 5 Kings Cross. Bus best bet here for transport? Cost: $8 transport, $25 wet suit and board rental Day 6 Suggestions welcome? Night 6, looking for some romantic suggestions, nice evening walk, good restaurant? etc. Day 7 OPEN in case new stuff pops up. Day 8 Enjoy Darling Harbour till about 1pm before Returning to United States. Cost: Don't know. Additional ?'s August what time is sunset? Is the 7 day pass worth it based on my itinerary, or do you think it's better to pay as we go? What's the best option for currency exchange (got screwed not doing my homework for this in Tokyo)? moreTop Wales Beaches Links
