Voting Question: What would the world be like if everyone just stayed in their own countries--and exploitations and genocide...?

...of native peoples and their natural resources never took place? What if America today was not "America" and was still a country that is populated mainly by Native Americans who are not relegated to crowded urban areas and not restricted by what the corporations tell them to eat, drink, wear, etc., but still rely on the earth and nature to provide for themselves and their own families and extended families? What if all Europeans, Asians, Middle Easterners, and other people continued to develop in their native countries over the centuries? How do you think things would be like today? Resolved Question: How can you keep your green card?

I have a green card registering me as permanent resident in the United States. But right now, I am out of the country and will remain in foreign land for at least 2-3 years. I have heard that the green card will automatically expire for those who do not stay in America for an extended time. So my question is, can I extend the effectiveness of my green card(while I am off American soil)? Is the re-entry permit also called I-130? because I know that the parole(I-131) only allows one year more

Resolved Question: Would an American be welcome in Singapore?

Hi ^_^, I'm very interested in Singapore, and would like to travel and maybe even work there someday. I'm a 20 year old Eurasian-American female, in my junior year of college. I've heard that Singaporeans highly value education, and I've also heard that there are many Eurasians in Singapore also. Does this mean that there's a better chance I'll be accepted if I go there, or will it not make a difference since I'm still a foreigner? What do Singaporeans think of Americans? What do Singaporeans think of outsiders working/living in their country, and how long could an American be expected to stay there before they wore out their welcome? I know some asian countries, like Japan, are very friendly to tourists but don't seem to like it when people have an "extended" stay in their country, like they're very protective of it or something? In short, what would people really think of me, and what sort of welcome and stay could I expect? Thanks :D! more

Resolved Question: American traveling to Australia?

I'm an American and I'm going to be traveling to Australia (Queensland) within a year. I was just wondering what all do I need to get into the country? Just a passport? And also, how long can I stay in Australia? How can I extend my stay? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. more

Voting Question: What visa options does my girlfriend have in America?

I am American, my girlfriend is Japanese and right now we are living in Australia. I was hoping to find sponsorship here while on working holiday, but not having the best results. If I were to get sponsored, Australia has a nifty De Facto partner visa- meaning that if I live with my girlfriend for 1 year or more, she can basically piggyback on my visa. Of course, in America, nothing like this exists. My question is, what are her visa options if we were to return to America? To me it seems like student visa or an au pair visa are the only reasonable options to stay for an extended period of time, and the au pair visa seems risky given that you could end up being placed just about anywhere. Are there any other options I haven't thought of? (tourist visas and summer work visas are both too short, and I should also ad that she does not have a university degree) more

Resolved Question: HELP PLEASE :( REALLY NEED ADVICE!!!!!!!?

Now. How can this happen if x-9-0-5-5-=y456, + 34678-y-x=27? Now i don't mean gillard or gilbert i mean the x and the = so x=33. squared. now Pythagoras theorem,..hmm, don't you just wanna go back in time, and kill him. ? anyway so i need (x-3456)(x-789) = (x-345) can you extend that?? also i need it simplified. if you can that'd be great, :). China and France should they combine? My answer is well, if x=27 then x+47-8 is NOT 8, so i think that no, china and spain should stay separated. Meanwhile brazil=8989048590348 so x=56837, what does THAT give us now? well, brazil=56837. squared. So where would that make mexico? Also should MexicO be MexicA ? Lets justify the language. American = English. American- 000000000. Engligh= 1234567890. so that would be iraq. So yes, it should me MEXICU. if asdfghjkl is NOT the same as asdfghjkl; lets find the average term: asdfg X hjkl = ; the average trm = hijkcaaaaaliforniaaaaaa. hmmmm. true? answer please. Resolved Question: Can an American that applied for permanent residence(by marriage to a Canadian) stay in Canada?

If the married Canadian and American have applied to have the American move to Canada, can the American stay in Canada? I know it's a maximum of 6 months to visit as a tourist, but is there a way to extend the time if you've applied for permanent residence? I believe it may depends on if the application is inland or outland, but outland seems to be the best choice for these applications. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: How do Republicans justify more tax breaks to the wealthy, but not extending unemployment benefits ?

The wealthy need more tax breaks like a hole in the head, but Republicans continue to vote NO on extending unemployment benefits to the the unemployed, due to lack of jobs, who truly need their unemployment benefits to stay above water, by no fault of their own. This is what the Republican party has become. They're spiting Obama and Democratic politicians, without any regard to the American people. There are just as many Republicans who are unemployed as there are Democrats. How can they, without remorse, turn their backs on Americans and sleep at night? I don't think they have a clue how this is going to be suicide in November. But people WILL remember.Sorry folks, but there is definitely something not working in your heads. The unemployed touches everyone from Engineers, teacher and nurses to blue collar workers. I guess aying the unemployed are lazy and don't want to work is what makes you Republicans. Pitiful, just pitiful. more

Resolved Question: What would Americans like better?

Obama and the dems (progressives libs) are blaming the Republicans for not wanting to extend unemployment, and the Republicans just want it paid for as Nancy and Harry did pass Pay-Go (pay for what you spend) and obama loved that they passed that. So the question is this, Do Americans want obama to make it a better climate for hiring OR just stay on unemployment and just live off the Government until they decide it is time for Americans to get jobs??? more

Resolved Question: How should I work at or end this relationship?

I have a male acquaintance that I've know for 10 mos. I have done nothing but help him. He's from Ghana and ME (American). From the beginning, I have dealt with lies and more lies. I found out on my own he was married, he continued to lie until his citizenship came to surface and then he admitted to it. He is still attempting to become a citizen. I have allowed him to stay in my home-not paying rent or bills, and then a 4 year old son surfaces. I know this is all a mess but currently he has rage because i won't loan (give) him 4000.00 to send to his country to assist with a honorable burial/cremation for his mom that died from cancer. I feel terrible and confused because she was just recently diagnosed with breast cancer, but i am a cancer survivor myself and i have asked him many times to get the information so my oncologist could set down with us and discuss his mother's situation and he makes nothing but excuses, which makes me feel he's dishonest about her death. Plus i asked him if he was going home he said No, but months before he was pissed off because he wanted to go home but his employer would not agree to hold his job for extended time. I did offer to assist with his travel back home but he wanted travel assist and funeral expense for his family states "he is dating a american woman and i should help him if i'm serious about him" but yet if i ask him for a commitment he tells me NO. His family in NYC was having a ceremony their and I asked if I could attend with him and he told me NO. I was not his family or apart of his family and yes I was hurt by it. I try to do my best with him but nothing is never enough. I feel offended because he can say i am not family, but you want my money to assist you and your family. I have never spoken to any of his family or met any of his friends. But the catcher is, the same time he said he needed money for his moms burial, he brought a new J30 infinity cash and is using my home as his address for insurance purposes and i just don't know what i have opened myself up to. I'm so frustrated with myself for falling in love with him but also being dump. How should I handle this situation? more

Resolved Question: I am 26 and have been dating my boyfriend for 6 years. I am Caucasian and he is African American.?

My family will not accept him. I also dated an African American in Highschool and was told that I would be disowned and all support would be taken away. So at this time in my life, I decided to follow my parents wishes. However, I am now self sufficient, have graduated from grad school and have a well paying job. But, my parents mean the world to me, as does my boyfriend. I would eventually like to get married and have children with him, but my parents (not to mention brother and all of my extended family) will not accept that. I don't know what to do. If I stay with my boyfriend I will hurt my parents and family, and if I leave my boyfriend I will hurt him and will not be happy. I don't know the answer. Any advice would be very much appreciated. more

Resolved Question: What are my boyfriend's options for staying in the UK?

I'm currently an international post-grad student with American citizenship who has already been in the UK for three years on a student visa. My boyfriend is Australian, here on a Working-Holiday Visa, which expires at the end of the year. Are there any ways to extend his stay in the country that don't involve marriage? Thanks!Regarding a student visa: He doesn't have the funds to spare for international student fees in the UK, which are around 11,000 GBP. Are there cheaper courses he could apply to that would still allow him to apply for a student visa and give him time to work at the same time? more

Resolved Question: Do you agree Mr. President, Do Your Job - Warning Signs Don't Secure the Border?

PHOENIX –– Earlier this month, Governor Jan Brewer sat in the Oval Office with President Barack Obama to discuss the critical issue of border security. The Governor personally related to the President the concerns of millions of Arizonans over the lack of security on Arizona’s southern border. During their visit, President Obama committed to present details, within two weeks of their meeting, regarding his plans to commit National Guard troops to the Arizona border and commit to spend $500 million in additional funds on border security. Two weeks have come and gone and still it’s all talk and no action. Two days ago, Brewer sent a letter to the President outlining her Four-Point Border Surge Strategy. (Click here to read Brewer’s letter.) “Administration officials continue to say that the border is as safe as it has ever been, yet the feds are posting signs 80 miles from the Arizona border warning Americans to stay away from our public lands,” Brewer stated. “We need action from the federal government not signs ceding sovereign U.S. territory to international drug cartels and human smugglers.” Governor Brewer remains eager to receive the specific details of President Obama’s border security plans. She continues to extend an invitation to the President to visit with families living along the southwestern border and see the situation firsthand http://securetheborder.org/article/mr-president-do-your-job more

Resolved Question: How much does it cost to change/extend a flight with American Airlines?

I'd like to extend my stay in America by one week, could someone tell me how much roughly it'll likely cost? Thanks.Thank you for your sarcasm, but I actually have some issues with talking to people on the phone and it's going to be hard enough as it is to change it, so I'd like some idea of how much It'll cost so I'm not calling for no reason, as if it's not within my budget, I can't change it anyway,Thank you longliveabcdefg, sorry I'm new to this I don't know how to say it's been resolved or how to reply to one specific person. But thanks very much for your help.Thank you everyone for all your help! Much appreciated.@ Nako. Actually I was the stupid one, because I just had to check online and it told me the fees, and everyone was correct it's between $150 - $300 which is all I wanted to know. (The base fee) I could have been more specific, but I'm sorry. Anyways, issue RESOLVED. So thank you. more

Resolved Question: Could anyone correct the first part of my essay? The essay is in English, but I am Italian?

Slaves and women : Abolition Movement and Women’s Rights The American nineteenth century was characterized by several political and social struggles. Most activists were involved in a number of different causes and the reformers were also united by several common assumption and believes. (The era of reform p.608). Technology development improved the general wealth of bourgeois Americans who needed to extend their territories. During the years before the Civil War American territory became much bigger because of the annexation of Texas in 1844, of some territories Mexico ceded in 1848 and the annexation of California as a free state. The introduction of new Southern States and the Fugitive Slave Act in 1850 made the argument about slavery everyday more complicated. Indeed antislavery sentiment in the United States began in colonial times, but in the thirty years before the Civil War it became stronger. Blacks and whites began demanding the immediate abolition of slavery. Local and National abolitionist organizations arose to promote the emancipation of slaves and to aid fugitive slaves. Blacks and whites abolistionists fought together against slavery, though they had different purposes, indeed while blacks fought for freedom and equal rights, while many white abolitionists could not accept blacks as their equals and just demanded to let them free. There were many important spokespersons such as Garrison who supported the ‘White’ Abolitionism, Douglas who supported a non-violent ‘Black’ Abolitionism and David Walker who suggested slaves to kill their masters in order to gain freedom and keep staying in the United States. Indeed a movement called Colonization arose to free the ‘Africans’ and send them to Africa. Obviously Abolition movement did not agree with this solution, as it appeared on David Walker’s Appeal, most slaves were born in America and built the Country and its richness with their blood and tears, so they declared their right to stay and enjoy what they had built. more

Resolved Question: Does anybody actually believe this financial reform bill will accomplish anything at all?

Let's recap: The Federal Reserve will become even more powerful than they were before (you know, since they did such an AWESOME job fking up the first time around). Despite their epic failure the first time, a FULL audit of the Federal Rerserve also got ditched. Fannie and Freddie (which have been extended an unlimited line of credit by the Obama treasury) is no where in this bill, Too Big to Fail appears to be here to stay (surprise surprise), derivatives aren't getting touched in any kind of substantive manner, AND the SAME Federal Reserve will house a "consumer protection agency" (LOL.........isn't this like asking Lindsay Lohan to make sure kids don't do drugs??) I mean are Americans really stupid enough to eat this sh*t up?? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_financial_overhaul;_ylt=Ar.Zl0heixzBdM7B9iyMz9Zn.3QA;_ylu=X3oDMTNhaGpqMmkwBGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAwNjI1L3VzX2ZpbmFuY2lhbF9vdmVyaGF1bARjY29kZQNtb3N0cG9wdWxhcgRjcG9zAzEEcG9zAzEEc2VjA3luX3RvcF9zdG9yaWVzBHNsawNvYmFtYWNsYWltc3Y-#mwpphu-container The bill would set up a warning system for financial risks, created a powerful consumer financial protection bureau to police lending, forced large failing firms to liquidate and set new rules for financial instruments that have been largely unregulated.........The government took over Fannie and Freddie in 2008 after they suffered heavy loan losses in the housing crash. Their collapse has cost $145 billion and the Obama administration has pledged to cover unlimited Fannie and Freddie losses through 2012, lifting an earlier cap of $400 billion.steph w............"It's the right formula" Yes, if your goal is to further consolidate wealth into the hands of the same people that helped wreck the economy. Resolved Question: Your thoughts Lawmakers Warn of Administration Plan to Grant Amnesty to Illegal Immigrants?

Eight Republican senators and an independent group that supports tighter limits on immigration are warning that the Obama administration is drafting a plan to "unilaterally" issue blanket amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants as it struggles to win support in Congress for an overhaul of immigration laws. The senators who wrote the White House on Monday say they are concerned that the administration is readying a "Plan B" in case a comprehensive reform bill cannot win enough support to clear Congress. "It seems more real than just bullying (Republicans) into a bill -- that it's a plan that they can actually put forward ... circumventing Congress," an aide told FoxNews.com on Wednesday. In their letter, the senators -- Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; Orrin Hatch, R-Utah; David Vitter, R-La.; Jim Bunning, R-Ky.; Saxby Chambliss, Ga.; Johnny Isakson, R-Ga.; James Inhofe, R-Okla.; and Thad Cochran, R-Miss. -- urge the president to "abandon" what they say is a move to "unilaterally extend either deferred action or parole to millions of illegal aliens in the United States." "Such a move would further erode the American public's confidence in the federal government and its commitment to securing the borders and enforcing the laws already on the books," they wrote. Deferred action and parole, which give illegal immigrants the ability to seek a work permit and temporary legal status, are normally granted on a case-by-case basis. But the aide said the lawmakers have learned from "sources" that the administration is considering flexing its authority to grant the status on a mass basis. Numbers USA, an organization that presses for lower immigration levels along with humanitarian treatment of illegal immigrants, has started a petition to the president expressing "outrage" at the alleged plan. Rosemary Jenks, director of government relations with Numbers USA, said she's been hearing for weeks from "sources close to the Democratic leadership" in both chambers that administration officials are discussing whether the Department of Homeland Security could direct staff to grant "amnesty" for all illegal immigrants in the country. "They're trying to figure out ways around a vote," she said. "Any attempt to force an amnesty on the American people using this underhanded method smacks of despotism," reads the fax the group is urging supporters to sign. The White House has not responded to a request for comment. The Department of Homeland Security estimated last year that 10.8 million undocumented residents live in the United States; other estimates have ranged higher. Any move to grant blanket legal status, even temporary, would raise questions about how Homeland Security would be able to handle the caseload. Jenks said Congress certainly wouldn't grant the administration the funding for more caseworkers. The purported discussions of a blanket amnesty come in the middle of several concurrent and heated debates over illegal immigration. The recently signed immigration law in Arizona has divided the country, with some states trying to replicate the state's tough legislation and other jurisdictions boycotting the state in protest. The Obama administration plans to file a court challenge. Democrats, meanwhile, have been trying to round up support for an overhaul bill in Congress, and the Interior Department is facing renewed criticism from Republican lawmakers over restrictions it places on Border Patrol officers policing the border on federal lands. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., shocked several Arizona residents last week when he told them that Obama had said he would not beef up border security because it would leave Republicans without an incentive to pass broader immigration reforms. Jenks said the talks about Homeland Security allowing illegal immigrants to stay are "serious." Under the law, immigration officials can grant deferred action to temporarily postpone removing an illegal immigrant from the country. That status does not offer a guarantee that they won't face deportation, but Jenks said illegal immigrants granted parole are often allowed to seek permanent legal status. If a "Plan B" is being discussed, it's unclear how far along the talks might be. Another GOP Senate aide said the discussions started after Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Richard Lugar, R-Ind., called on Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in April to stop deportations of undocumented students who could earn legal status under a bill they introduced. A Senate Democratic aide said the Obama administration never responded to the April letter. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/23/lawmakers-warn-administration-plan-unilaterally-grant-blanket-amnesty/ more

Resolved Question: Why would Obama allow Five Federal Lands in Arizona Have Travel Warnings in Place?

Imagine the federal government closing a section of the Lincoln Memorial because it was under the control of Mexican drug lords and bands of illegal immigrants. That scenario is playing out as reality in southern Arizona, where parts of five federal lands -- including two designated national monuments -- continue to post travel warnings or be outright closed to Americans who own the land because of the dangers of "human and drug trafficking" along the Mexican border. Roughly 3,500 acres of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge -- about 3 percent of the 118,000-acre park -- have been closed since Oct. 6, 2006, when U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials acknowledged a marked increase in violence along a tract of land that extends north from the border for roughly three-quarters of a mile. Federal officials say they have no plans to reopen the area. Elsewhere, at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, which shares a 32-mile stretch of the border with Mexico, visitors are warned on a federally-run website that some areas are not accessible by anyone. "Due to our proximity to the International Boundary with Mexico, some areas near the border are closed for construction and visitor safety concerns," the website reads. On another page titled "Border Concerns," the website warns that visitors should be aware that "drug smuggling routes" pass through the park. "If you see any activity which looks illegal, suspicious, or out of place, please do not intervene," the website reads. "Note your location. Call 911 or report it to a ranger as quickly as possible. Each year hundreds of people travel north through the park seeking to enter the United States." Visitors are also warned to be mindful of illegal immigrants within Ironwood Forest National Monument, a 129,000-acre federal parkland in the Sonoran Desert. "All suspected illegal activities should be reported to [the Bureau of Land Management] or local law enforcement authorities," Ironwood Forest's website reads. "Visitors should stay safe by avoiding contact with persons exhibiting suspicious behavior or engaged in dangerous activities. Drive with caution and look for fast-moving vehicles and pedestrians on back roads." Dennis Godfrey, a spokesman for the Bureau of Land Management's Arizona office, said roughly a dozen signs were posted earlier this month along the Sonoran Desert National Monument advising that travel in the area is not recommended due to "active drug and human" smuggling. The signs are not far from where a Pinal County deputy was shot and killed during a confrontation with marijuana smugglers in April and the fatal shooting of two men suspected to be drug smugglers. "It is a corridor for smugglers of all types," Godfrey told FoxNews.com. Similar signs have been posted at the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge and the Coronado National Forest, which covers nearly 1.8 million acres in southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/06/18/federal-lands-arizona-travel-warnings-place/Where are the ENVIROS? or are they happy that only the illegals get to inhabit the “protected” area. more

Resolved Question: Should we indiscriminantly legalize marijuana and would it be harmful? pt. 2?

Ok guys well I guess I didn't make my position very clear. I had hoped that by saying indiscriminantly that I would convey the idea that people should be evaluated as to whether or not they could handle the use of marijuana by a certain set of factors based on their actions/histories etc and that this should occur on as much of a one on one basis as possible. And for those who are already whining about how long this would take just consider the cost of freedom for a second and it won't seem so bad. I was also only speaking from personal experience in my argument which I realize may sound one-sided but you must take into account that throughout my travels(which are apparently not typical for many Americans to make at least according to someone who answered a question from part 1 of this discussion.) I have encountered many different types of people in many different situations and I have witnessed first hand certain negative effects that extended marijuana use has had on their lives. Now as far as legalization being part of popular opinion...I have no doubt whatsoever that that is probably correct and as far as me taken the prohibition stance, well I was hoping to avoid that by using the term indiscriminatly but I am new to this page after all so perhaps I should more time phrasing my questions in such a way so as to convey the meaning I hope to express. In short I am not for prohibition and I am please that a patient who used marijuana for medicinal purposes was able to have his symptoms relieved. I realize of course as well that one way to support new law is to base it on popular support and with this in mind it may be that in certain areas going with the majority is the right choice. However, I sincerely believe that statistics regarding a person's view towards hard work as well as their ability to be depended on clearly affected by the recreational use of marijuana just as the same attributes are affected by the use on any other mood altering drug either pharamseutically or otherwise. Now the difference is that while alcohol only stays in your system for three to five days depending on how much you consume marijuana(as many readers are no doubt very aware) stays in your system for <30, and unfortunately a few of the more negative effects linger on throughout that 30 days which means that a little recreation even on your own time has the ability to effect the profits of your employer as well as the level of customer service you deliver. Why do I care? Because I take customer service both philosophically and because it is my responsibility to do so. I feel that, too often we are not respecting each other's needs in society and that by me offering valuable customer service I can counteract that at least in some small way. However... I can't help but find it diplorable from a purely non-religious ethical perspective that advocates for legalization would stoop to the level of exploiting cancer patients to push their goals for medicinal passage thus gaining the public trust raising public awareness for the truly suffering and then turn around and vehemently lie to the public's faces about their true agenda and allow people people with something as common as a simple headache to get a prescription. This deceit I cannot abide and I would be very surprised if the general public were made more aware that this deception was going on that they would just stand by and let it happen. Yes driving under the influence D.U.I. is illegal and yet people still do it but I guarantee you the penalty would be much higher if prohibition were still in place. So would I support that? Not at all. I am only stating that at least based on logic and statistics that more people would drive and smoke if the penalty for doing so were lessened and this would at least in my opinion lead to more traffic fatalities. And what gives me the right to tell others how to live based on my own limited experience? Well logically nothing and if I ever made anyone feel that that was my objective then again I probably should have been more clear. Just as there is abuse with alcohol and a host of other prescription drugs so would there no doubt be an abuse of marijuana, and as for me getting on my so-called high horse and taking the prohibition stance....it turns out that he horse I've chosen to saddle is really not so high at all as I am only saying we should evaluate this very complicated decision based on the ability of society to handle its outcome. I would personally love to believe that all of society was ready for pure free legalization. Of course I would also like to believe I could leave my windows rolled down at night, leave my doors unlocked at night, and feel confident in a belief that people were so responsible and considerate of one another that we no longer needed a police force, however this is not the case. In truth I really only posed the question to garner public opinion and d more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know a lot about Russian visas for Americans?

Can someone give me some advice on how (if possible) to get a visa? I'll give a list of info. 1. I'm studying in Russia this summer and already have a visa for that, but apparently it expires when our student program is over. - What would happen if I just didn't leave Russia? Someone mentioned fines when I try to leave. 2. I am trying to stay after the program to visit my host family I lived with last year. I'd like to stay for about 3 weeks. 3. I leave in a week. Is there anyway I can get this fixed? I talked with people from the program I'm doing and they said that they can't do anything to our visas (like extend them) and that it would be up to me to attain one. What would someone recommend? If there is any hope for me, what type of visa do I get and how? Any help would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!!! more

Resolved Question: Do I need to have a visa on my American passport, if I have am an Irish citizen who will be living in France?

I will be studying abroad in France for a year, and I originally planned on using my Irish passport while in Europe. However, I am worried about running into complications when I return/depart from America. Mainly, Where is your visa for your extended stay? Seeing as how I am required to enter and leave the US on my American passport, this is a major worry for me. I will be flying round trip from Houston to Dublin, and then catching a smaller flight over to Paris. So have any other dual citizens encountered issues with this? Do I need to have a visa on my US passport just for those times? more

Resolved Question: Why Americans rejecting work offers so they can continue collecting unemployment benefits?

In a state with the nation's highest jobless rate, landscaping companies are finding some job applicants are rejecting work offers so they can continue collecting unemployment benefits. It is unclear whether this trend is affecting other seasonal industries. But the fact that some seasonal landscaping workers choose to stay home and collect a check from the state, rather than work outside for a full week and spend money for gas, taxes and other expenses, raises questions about whether extended unemployment benefits give the jobless an incentive to avoid work. Members of the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association "have told me that they have a lot of people applying but that when they actually talk to them, it turns out that they're on unemployment and not looking for work," said Amy Frankmann, the group's executive director. "It is starting to make things difficult." Chris Pompeo, vice president of operations for Landscape America in Warren, said he has had about a dozen offers declined. One applicant, who had eight weeks to go until his state unemployment benefits ran out, asked for a deferred start date. "It's like, you've got to be kidding me," Pompeo said. "It's frustrating. It's honestly something I've never seen before. They say, 'Oh, OK,' like I surprised them by offering them a job." Some job applicants are asking to be paid in cash so they can collect unemployment illegally, said Gayle Younglove, vice president at Outdoor Experts Inc. in Romulus. "Unfortunately, we feel the economy is promoting more and more people and companies to play the system and get paid or collect cash money so they don't have to pay taxes," Younglove said. $12-per-hour jobs A person becomes ineligible for benefits if he or she fails to accept suitable work, said Stephen Geskey, director of Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency. The average landscape worker earns about $12 per hour, according to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth. A full-time landscaping employee would make $225 more a week working than from an unemployment check of $255. But after federal and state taxes are deducted, a full-time landscaper would earn $350 a week, or $95 more than a jobless check. The gap could narrow further for those who worked at other higher-paying seasonal jobs, such as construction or roofing, which would result in a larger benefits check. http://detnews.com/article/20100510/BIZ/5100335/ more

Resolved Question: Comments and opinions for story?

In the girls' bathroom, Savannah sat on the toilet listening in on five girl's conversation. She couldn't tell who they were except by their shoes. The girl with the red heels spoke first. Or at least that's what Savannah thought. "What's that one girl's name." red asked. "Savannah Ripley? Friends with Elisha Carpenter and Holly Drake?" "The girl who's really pretty and kind of popular." said a girl with black Chuck Taylor's. "Yeah, that's who I'm talking about." red said. "She's so annoying. I have her in Biology and she says the dumbest things. I got stuck with her on a presentation to do for Mrs. Cunningham, and she totally freaked when we had to present. Then today, we were watching a video where they had to film under water and she was like, 'Ooh, they must have used special equipment for it!'" Skylar. Savannah seethed. Who did she think she was? The popular kids weren't as nasty as she and her friends were.   The girl with the red Chuck Taylor's laughed. "What a retard." Savannah felt tear stinging from her eyes. She hated that word Chuck just called her. Retard was a horrible word. That word had been thrown at her in middle school and day camp. Now it was coming back to her. "She's dating Carter, right?" a girl wearing Rocket Dogs said. "Of course." Skylar said. "Everyone knows. If they could broadcast it, they would." Chuck laughed. "I give them two more weeks. Carter can't handle drama. As soon as Savannah gets to be on the top of drama, he'll leave her in a millisecond." And with that, they left. Savannah banged the door with her fist. All she wanted was to make friends and this was what she was getting. A hate group.   Sighing, she walked out of the stall. To her surprise, Palma was standing there. She hadn't even heard Palma walk in. Palma extended her hand for Savannah to hold. She had heard everything. "Don't mind them." said Palma. "They don't know any better. You have us, you know." "I just want everyone to like me." pleaded Savannah, tears running out of her eyes like a faucet. Palma chuckled. "Don't worry, when they saw me, they liep." "What?" giggled Savannah. "They ran." Palma said flatly, ushering Savannah out of the bathroom. "You do know, those girls are just jealous of you right?" Savannah figured that as much, but it still hurt. She didn't want anyone to be jealous of her. Holly even said being jealous of just caused more trouble. She didn't want anyone to hate her. She didn't even like drama. There was no way she would even be apart of it.   "People call me big-boobed bimbo." said Palma. "They're like 'Why are you celebrating Thanksgiving? You're Dutch.'" "Why do you?" asked Savannah. "Just curious, that's all." "Because half of my family moved here and took on American traditions." smiled Palma. "I love my home, but the U.S. is so much better." They talked for awhile until the bell rang for fourth period. Since Mr. Austerlitz never counted anyone tardy, Savannah decided to stay there for a few more minutes. "I have Asperger's." confided Savannah, waiting for Palma's reaction. Palma smiled kindly. "I have OCD. What you have, doesn't change my opinion about you." Savannah felt wonderful. Finally someone she told at Paramount besides her teachers about her disorder. Palma understood completely. For she too had a disability. A mutual bond came between the two when they confided in their deepest secrets.   Rick Perez kept pestering Savannah about how Carter was during in study hall. Every time she was about to say something to Holly, Rick would butt in with his mindless questions. She usually didn't mind Rick, but that time she was getting agitated with him. She finally had to tell him in a terse voice to talk to her later. Then felt guilty afterward. She hated being rude. That wasn't the kind of person she was. So she ended up apologizing to him. "That's okay." he said. "I can be annoying." "Now you admit it." Holly said, rolling her eyes. Lucas Green leaned over to Savannah. "Hey, how come there's people talking about you? I told them to stop." "Thanks." smiled Savannah. "I feel like I'm the most hated person in the school." "No, you're not." Holly said reassuringly. "We like you."    Relief fell over Savannah. She knew those were her good friends. They would never hurt her for anything. She didn't know what she was thinking when listening to Skylar. Skylar was just someone she knew. She didn't affect her life. Just then Austerlitz walked over with a slip of more

Resolved Question: How good of a job has the media done in painting a false image in people's heads that Dirk is soft?

READ ALL The American media for a long time now has just blatantly labeled any international they see soft and one thing is that the fans now days will believe them without even looking at the facts for themselves. Lets look at the facts..... If Dirk is so soft, how come in 2008 when he had a hyper extended ankle that was damaged badly he came back early to drag his team into the playoffs. When Dirk got hurt that year he was suppose to be out longer and he came back early because his team was in danger of not making the playoffs with the Warriors and Nuggets creeping behind them. He came back early and still brought his team to the playoffs and averaged 26.8ppg, 12rpg, and 4apg on one foot against the hornets. * Dirk has only missed more games than Pierce and Miller for active players and has even missed less time than Kobe Bryant and only missed around 30 something games for his entire career. That shows his durability and toughness right there. * Kobe has had his pinky and back hyped up this year to be made worse than what it was and got credit. Well anyone that follows Dallas knows Nowitzki had Carl's teeth jammed in his elbow causing a laceration and missed only missed 1 game because of it. He also jammed his finger caught in Grants shoe and had an elbow injury from a Kenyon Martin foul and yet he still finds a way to stay on the floor. He has the mentality of the player in the 80s to just lace it up no matter how bad you're hurt. ___ Obviously Dirk isn't soft pain threshold wise so how about mental toughness so I can clear up all categories. Yeah sure 2007 wasn't his best playoff series against the Warriors but his dad was going through major lung surgery during that series due to a life of smoking and Dirk had to call during halftime of every single game in that series to make sure he was ok. If your dad is going to possibly die there is no way you can perform at the MVP level he did during that regular season and he still managed to averaged 20 and 10 in that series. PROOF about dad: http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/4094/a-close-look-at-dirk-nowitzki __ Last, last year against the Nuggets he had an off the court issue with his ex-fiancee claiming to have had his child and she was being locked up and in jail and she was a fraud and was wanted which was why she was under multiple aliases and Dirk still told his team he wouldn't let them down and averaged 34.4ppg, 12rpg, 4apg, 50%fg, 39%3pt, 90%ft in the Nuggets series with that going on in his personal life. Yet last time Kobe had the rape issue (which btw isn't as bad as the father issue Dirk had or this) still performed worse than Dirk's warriors series and obviously the Nuggets series because he was a beast, yet people don't call him soft and Nowitzki is? Double standards? Pain threshold wise and mental wise Dirk is probably the toughest player pound for pound. The media did a great job painting an image in gullible fans heads. And if he gets that rep for being a finesse player then that is just silly. The man isn't soft. more

Hi, Im an 18 year old British girl with a huge heartbreak dilemma. I've been with my boyfriend now for 2 years, last September he entered the US air force (Hes American) and went off to basic training. We had been living together and it left a massive hole in my heart. Now hes in tech school in Eglin, FL training in EOD until September 2010. Dealing with a long distance relationship is so hard even for fully matured adults let alone an 18 year old girl but i was coping ok with regular contact on facebook, skype and phone calls until last week he found out where he would be based and i feel as if my whole worlds come crashing down... Hes based in California for minimum 2 years, now i have no idea what to do. California was his 6th choice on his dream sheet!!! How could this happen to us!! I cant be with him out there until we get married and i get a visa but I don't want to jump into things without knowing what it would be like so i was thinking about maybe having an extended stay over there so i could do a trial and error sort of thing before making a proper commitment. However, when hes based he will get his own place... What sort of place? would it be on or off base? would i be able to stay there for a couple of months without being married? or would he be able to stay with me at a hotel for a couple of months if i were to visit and see what life would be like in America? Please somebody help..... I'm desperate!! Thank you xHe will be based on Travis in California if that helps? more

Resolved Question: If the PORKULUS was supposed to cap unemployment at 8%, why does 0bama NOW say it's going to stay near 10%!?

Obama Aides See ‘Extended Period’ of Unemployment (Update1) March 16 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. employers won’t hire enough workers this year to lower the jobless rate much below the level of 9.7 percent reached in February, three Obama administration economic officials said today. The proportion of Americans who can’t find work is likely to “remain elevated for an extended period,” Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, White House budget director Peter Orszag and Christina Romer, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, said in a joint statement. The officials said unemployment may even rise “slightly” over the next few months as discouraged workers start job-hunting again. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aXaMufrB.FA0 PORKULUS and SON OF PORKULUS... Resolved Question: Some key points to show to prove america is an empire?

doing school thesis essay. I have to prove its an Empire ... ive got a bit so far... its rough draft no intext or anything is done right nd i havent got enough information for some stuff. The United States as an Empire As America being the worlds last superpower the debate goes on whether its an empire or not, America is an empire, if you compare it to what was once the worlds greatest superpower, Britain, there are many similarities. We have troops anywhere that we have major interests e.g. oil in the middle east. We will wage wars on any threats, and we are a large consumer of resources (newsflavor.com). Empires have existed for thousands of years. An empire is something that exists when a tribe or society exercises extended domination over one or more external nations, and through this domination the empire is able to locate key results in the dominated societies. Being able to determine these results in the most important point to becoming and staying an empire. Those who hold such power should be able to come up with the economic benefits, how to access important and necessary resources, military strategy, and other powers benefiting from this political arrangement. (JAMES LAXER)? (WHAT AMERICA OWNS) One of the best known wars America has fought was the Spanish- American war. It was fought without much preparation, but our will was strong. This war was ended with signing of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. This treaty ceded Puerto Rico to the United States. Oil is one of America’s most important lifestyle necessities. We will fight to get it in today’s economy. Many people thought the war with Iraq was fought for terrorist reasons, but in all truth it was fought for their oil. The war had nothing to do with terrorism, and completely to do with oil. President George W. Bush’s cabinet agreed in April 2001 that “Iraq remains a destabilizing influence to the flow of oil to international markets from the Middle East' and because this is an unacceptable risk to the US 'military intervention' is necessary.” (Sunday Herald). This is almost enough in itself to prove that America is an empire. So i need some more points to use.. i also need 4 more primary sources at lease... im going to use the treaty of paris as one .. so only 3 i guess... ... HELP due the 19th and im only 1/3 of the way done with this more

Resolved Question: Can someone take a look at my essay and tell me what they think?

The topic is: How does a TV show portray today's family? Is it portrayed as a choice or something that is chosen for us? I chose ABC's "Modern Family." The Traditional Modern Family According to author Stephanie Coontz, the best time for a family to grow up was about fifty years ago. Coontz goes on stating that television played an important role in a family lifestyle saying, “the new family sitcoms gave people nightly lessons on how to make their marriage or rapidly expanding family work or, in the case of I Love Lucy, how not to make their marriage work” (38). In the last fifty years, television has shown family in all sorts of light. But one family, being the traditional family, has started to make a comeback on television in a comedy titled Modern Family. Author Rick Santorum gives the definition that a traditional family is, “a family constituted by a mother and a father who have committed themselves to each other in lifelong marriage, together with their children” (92). With a documentary type feel, Modern Family follows three fictional related families, and their everyday lifestyles with testimonies of the families discussing the scenes occurring or about to occur. The first of three families is Jay whose biological children are Claire, who is married to Phil and has three children, and Mitchell, who lives with his partner Cameron and their adopted girl. Jay has also remarried to a Columbian woman, Gloria, who already has a son, Manny. In the television show Modern Family, Claire’s family portrays the American family as traditional. Claire, Phil, and their children are a great example of the traditional family that experiences everything together. At every episode a message is expressed for the audience to relate to of what it means to grow up and be a parent in today’s world. Claire and Phil Dunphy portray the stereotypical parents. Claire is known as the overprotective mother to her three children, Haley, Alex, and Luke. During one of Claire’s testimonials, she talks about her son saying, “Luke is my baby. Is it really too much to ask that he stay a sweet, innocent kid forever?” This quote is one of many thoughts that run through every mother’s mind about their children. Claire is like a “typical” mom, as she loves to organize and usually gets stressed out with her husband, children, and extended family. Phil on the other hand is known as the dad and husband who tries to be cool, but looks ridiculous. Even though Phil may be goofy at times, he is an honest man whose heart is in the right place as he tries to bond with kids and please his wife. He steals the show with both his awkwardness and quotes that seem to make no sense, but make the audience stop and think. For example in one episode, he says, “You never want your kids to see you scared. You want to be that rock that they grab a hold of in a stormy sea. Actually, a rock would sink. So a floating rock.” Or in another episode after Claire and Phil caught their kids lying about smoking he states, “I can forgive the smoking, but I can’t forgive the lie... or the smoking.” Claire and Phil mean well in all that they do, and even though they may annoy their children, they still are the ‘rock’ that keeps their family afloat making them a perfect example of parents in a traditional family who want the best for their children. Speaking of children, Santorum continues arguing that, “marriage matters because children matter…There should be no argument that a married mother-and-father household is the best place for raising kids” (89-90). Claire and Phil have three children who all have different personalities and add their own persona that adds to the show. Haley portrays the oldest daughter and is a perfect example of a young teenager. She wants everything, argues with her parents and siblings, and even acts a little immature when it comes to certain topics. Alex represents the middle child; however, she may be the most intelligent in the family. Like her older sister, she does have arguments with her siblings, but she is the more logical one who can get out of sticky situations. Luke is the youngest of the three and like Claire mentioned, he portrays the “innocent kid.” He does pick on his sisters, but most of the time he is unaware and naïve. One time he called Gloria, his grandfather’s wife, a “coal digger” because he heard his mom say that about her as well, but had no idea about the meaning or context of what he was saying. As Rick Santorum notes, “we parents owe it to our children to be honest, to give them a vision of the highest good. Failure to affirm a moral vision to our children is a form of abandonment by parents and by society” (93). Children think their parents are role models so they choose to act like them. As they grow up they will have to make their own decisions on what actions to act on or what words to say. This is the choice that both parents and children contribute to a functioning traditional family. Modern Family po more

Resolved Question: Need some help deciding which visa's I should focus on for my wife and child?

I do have an odd situation, and was hoping someone here may have an answer to my issue. I am a born American citizen, and have been happily married to my wife (Chinese), for nearly 4 years now. We have been together for about 8 years here in China. We also have our amazing 2 year old daughter which whom is also a Chinese citizen. OUR PLAN I really would like to bring my lovely daughter and wife to America this year to visit my family for the first time. If and when we do get to America, we would like to extend our stay for about a year. 1: I want my wife & daughter to get an improvement in English, and get to know and love my family. 2: then we would like to work and save a bit of money, then fly back to China, in a years time. MY QUESTION I am lost here... I am not sure which visa would be fast and most promising to get for them. I am fully aware on how difficult it is for North Eastern Chinese citizen to get an American visa. I am also fully aware I can report the birth of my baby daughter, at the American consulate in Shenyang. I do know all the procedures to do so as-well. The only problem is, doing that would mean my daughter would have to leave China, ASAP according to what USCIS, in Washington DC told me. The police station where I am located in China also said the same thing. If my daughter Changes her citizenship, then she would have to leave China, and apply for a Chinese visa if she were to come back. Now I am currently in China with my family, and am not planning on leaving without them. NOW DOWN TO THE REAL QUESTIONS 1: What visa should I have my wife and daughter apply for, for my situation? 2: Should they first apply for a tourist visa (B2)? If so and granted, will they be allowed to extend their visa after arrival in the Unites States? 3: Should I report the birth of my daughter and change her citizenship, after my wife is granted a tourist visa? 4: Would I be able to change my daughters citizenship while in America, using the "report a birth" procedures (Regardless of which type visa she is on)? 5: Could I have my wife and child apply for Visa's K3/K4 while I am here in China with them? If so how long would it take to be granted? We are hoping to get to America with in a month or 2... 6:What are the chances of my wife and daughter even getting any type of visa to America, within 2 months time? (rate 0%-100%) NOTE: My wife had applied for the B2 tourist visa, about 6 years ago. At that time we were not married and just started dating. I do know why she was denied. Failure to convince the consulate officer, that she will be coming back to China. HAHA we were quite young and totally went unprepared Will this have any negative affects for her when she applies again? Well that pretty much summons it up. I know the post is quite long, but I have been trying to find an answer to this problem for quite some time now. I really hope someone here will be much help to my family and I! ThanksOur marriage has been reported at to the American consulate. My daughter has until 18 years of age to report the birth according to USCIS and the American consulate. more

Resolved Question: Jim Bunning...what's all the fuss?

Jim Bunning seems to be this week's Republican bad guy. All he's asking is how Congress expects to pay for the proposed unemployment benefits extension. The last extension was paid out of the stimulus funds. Recently, Obama announced with great fanfare that he signed the Pay-as-you-go Bill into law. Well, Jim Bunning just wants to be assured that PAYGO will be applied to the extended unemployment benefits, otherwise, what's the point of PAYGO? Why do the DEMS and the media avoid the issue which is, what spending is Congress going to cut to finance the cost of this plan? Why should working Americans continue to pay for the unemployment benefits of millions when the stimulus bill was supposed to create all these jobs in the first place? PS From everything I've been reading, extending unemployment benefits gives people the incentiove to stay out of work longer (ie, some people will put off looking for work if they know that they have "x" number of months of unemployment benefits. I said SOME people. Not everyone does this. more

Resolved Question: What should I do if i was unfairly arrested in Kazakhstan?

I got a tourist visa for one month to Kazakhstan to be with my wife and child. As soon as I got here I went to the local police station to register my stay and get informed if it was possible to extend my stay for longer than a month. Surprisingly the immigration secretary signed and stamped my Immigration Card for three months. Unbeknownst to me she had just been new on the job for a few months and did not ask concerning extended stay for American citizens thinking it was the same as the countries surrounding Kazakhstan (e.g. Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine) So the next thing I find out is that I have problems cause of her error on the Immigration Card. Everyone my wife and I talk to tell us something different as if it would seem no one knows for sure what exactly is the law and what to do about my situation, we get mixed answers all the time. I was under the complete understanding based on the signed and stamped Imigration Card that I had three months to stay in this country, now it turns out that I cant and that i violated the law, after I have been staying here the whole time thinking I was ok. What should I do?? I feel it was not my fault, this is such an inconvenience! I feel stressed out, humiliated, mad emotionally distressed that I had to spend 24 hours in jail and I also have to pay a fine because the so called Immigration secretary did not know how to do her job. And wich might result in me getting deported which will prevent me from entering this country again for 5 years to be with my family. Can the U.S. Embassy help me out in some way? Can I sue the Immigration secretary for emotional damages? What can I do? more

Resolved Question: How can I stay in japan as long as I want( let me explain)?

I know there is something to the effect that americans can only get a tourist visa of up to 6 months a year or something, am I correct or wrong? Well I come from a wealthy family (my dad owns a company) & we are quite rich. Well I have been to japan several times before but that was on a student visa. This time I want to go withou any special visa, I know that on tourist I cannot work, however, I dont not need to.(because Im rich ) If I was to show the japanese embassy any proof that my father can support me by giving his certificate of annual income etc, would I be able to extend my stays in japan every 3 months? Can I exit & re-enter japan every 3 months to renew my visa over & over? & would there be an exception in my case especially if I can show proof of my family wealth & support of me that I donnot need to work, so there is no chance that I am doing anything illegal. more

Resolved Question: Can I sue U.S. Customs for Emotional Distress?

I am a U.S. Citizen and cross the border daily from Tijuana to the U.S. daily. Some officers already know me and my car, but my car is always having issues at the border because of my gas tank being too behind near the trunk. It is unusual for them to see it there since Infinity is the only make who has done that (i don't know why), so they think it is something else and always poke at it and inspect my car for awhile. The officers who know me or know the situation just let me pass by quickly but those who don't sometimes send me to secondary inspection. Well this becomes a conflict for me because I cross to go to work and most of the time these slow pokes make me late. Yesterday though I was sent to Secondary Inspection because the officer who I got first could not figure out what the hell was in back of my trunk, after I told him to fasten things up he decided to send me to secondary inspection. There they used a machine which they inserted into the gasoline tank and 30 minutes later they told me to get out of my car and then that I had to wait inside their office. As they pulled their handcuffs out I knew something was wrong. I hesitated a little asking them what had I done wrong? But all they told me was that it was nothing and they would explain it all inside. They walked me through their parking lot while a group of people where staring at my ashamed, embarrassed, confused face! I had seen this happen before and always thought those people deserved it for crossing drugs or whatever into the U.S. but I never thought this would happen to me!! And neverthless wanted someone to think that of ME! As they escorted me into their little office where the door is like the ones in jail i thought they really did get me with something! As I got there they took the handcuffs off meanwhile I asked what the hell was going on? They ignored me and talked in "codes" they only knew, they spreaded me against their counter while they searched me and I could not move at ALL or else they told me off. They jotted my information down in a sheet while I asked again why was the reason and ignored me once more. They took off my shoes and undid my hair do, took off my belt, my jewelry, and my personal belongings. They told to me to shut up and sit down like I had no rights and was guilty of something. After an hour or so (considering myself lucky) I was told that I was ready to go, while they gave me my belongings back i asked again and they told me it was an just extended inspection more than usual but that I was 'free' to go. I took my stuff and tried to burst out of there but I had to be escorted out. I felt so angry and ashamed and with no rights, in no way did that feel right at all!! I know they have to do their job to protect but they also pledged that they'll welcome you with respect and in NO WAY AT ALL I felt respected, not even in the way they spoke to me! I can't explain the way I felt! I cried my way to my job which knew nothing about my whereabouts since I could not use my phone at all (which I asked for to notify my job but was denied) At the exit of the parking lot I asked for my note of inspeccion or something to show proof to my employer but they rudely told me that they had nothing and just to tell them that I was here then ignored any further questions. I felt so violated and I just can't explain, angry at my country. I did not know how I could cross again the next day. I did not want to face them again I wanted to quit my job and stay in Mexico instead, I felt so anti-american at the time and I hated feeling like that, and hated that they made me feel like that too. Today I did not cross my car and I don't think that I am ever going to until I purchase a new car. I have to cross everyday to go to work and their attitude with me its just causing me too much stress and depression to a point that I do not want to live in the United States any longer. I hope this doesn't have further consequences because I have been noticing that I get a really bad headaches or possible migraines after I speak with U.S. customs and it just ruins my whole day... Can I possibly sue them for emotional distress because of this? I know it is their job but they could do it in a more efficient proper way so just in case the detainee was innocent then they would not feel attacked and feel the way i feel everyday! more

Resolved Question: Illegal immigrant with a valid SSN, who also pays taxes. In-state tuition in college + admission. Possible?

How about an illegal immigrant, who entered the country on a J-1 student visa (seasonal summer job) and overstayed it? It's been over 2 years since my visa expired, but I decided to stay and build my life here. I tried extending/changing the status, but got denied by the USCIS. I'm 22, female, originally from Europe. Please, do not judge, I only ask for prejudice-free advice. I have been attending a local community college for the past 2 years paying in-state tuition (I checked "US Citizen" box in the app, and no one asked for any proof). I have a 4.0 transferable GPA and am aiming for UC Berkeley next year. However, I'm a bit worried - how do Universities check if I'm a citizen or not? My community college didn't ask for any verification besides an ID (which I got when I still had the visa, in Illinois)...If I just put "citizen" in the application again, how will they verify? I pay taxes, work full time 9-5 Mon-Fri and attend evening and weekend classes. I'm also in the Honors Program. I'm a CA resident with great credit score as well :) Paying my bills on time, have my own place, car and a payroll check every week. I'm not interested in burdening this wonderful country by getting all the welfare I can get, I am trying my best to pay for my own college now. But I can't afford tuition anymore (if i get admitted to a UC I mean), so will be forced to apply for a FAFSA next year. I love this country, I will do my best to serve as a good citizen even though I still don't have a status... FYI - I did not attend an American High School. Please, share any advice you can. Will appreciate anything you can contribute to the resolution. Thank youWell, I expected this kind of responses from mostly illeterate people. Thank you "Label me liberal" for the advice. Could you PM me his laywer's contact info? Might consider a consultation :) Just so sum up my feedback: There are legal ways of changing the status to a Permanent Resident and eventually citizen. It involves marriage to a US Citizen. I'm not ready to marry anyone yet, and I wouldn't ever sign up for marriage of convenience. FYI - overstayed visa is not a felony. You need to know your home country's laws better before contributing your 2 cents. Marriage for Green Card is. P.S. there's no such word as "lieing" :) more

Resolved Question: R&P: Remember the Rollins Interview I Promised?

I want to thank those who participated in providing question suggestions the last time I posted my Henry Rollins question. Even though I extended it as long as i could, I decided it was unfair to pick a "best answer" since you all were awesome in providing questions. So, here I am posting a raw transcript of my interview with Henry Rollins which is yet to be pulished in a couple of weeks. If you see your question answered, pat yourself on the back :) Interview with Henry Rollins: February 2, 3:42 p.m. Mountain Time Q: Lenny Bruce, Brother Theodore, George Carlin: Did any of these outspoken performers play any influential role in your spoken-word technique or philosphy? A: Bruce and Carlin certainly have given me a lot of courage. When you consider what Bruce got shut down for, he is a true child of the First Ammendment. Carlin made me understand the power of words and I always admired how long he stayed working. I know that I will have not nearly the span of Carlin but people like him, Lenny Bruce and Brother Theodore are so rare. Q: At what age did you discover your "wayward/insubordinate" self? When did you probably start questioning authoritative society (e.g. Orwell's "Animal Farm" is what did it for me in fifth grade) ... A: The aforementioned as well as The Clash, The Sex Pistols and my friend Ian MacKaye made me see things differently. I guess all of that started happening in my early teen years. Q: Do you think Pop Culture has dumbed down our nation? A: If it has, it can't be a new phenomenon. Pop music has been with us for decades. I think that corporate media has done Americans a great disservice in that they have deprived America with any consistent degree of transparency. I think we are not as religiously fundamental as other nations in spite of all the attempts to make us so. Q: It's every liberal's dream to tell Ann Coulter to "shut the fuck up". I recall once, in your "Letters From Henry" portion of The Henry Rollins show, you directed a letter to her; how gratifying was that? Ever get a response? A: It didn't do anything for me, really. Ms. Coulter is just a professional wrestler who has not nearly the fan base that many would think. I have never heard from her. I think at one point, Fox News barked at me but no one really watches Fox. Q: I have heard stories that you and Ian MacKaye met while working at a Hagen Daaz? Is this true? If so, how old were you both? What's one of the earliest memories that crosses your mind? A: I met Ian behind his mother's house while riding my bike. This was many years before I was working at the ice cream place. I have known Ian since I was about 12 or 13. I am 49 now. Ian is the first person of my age group that had his own opinion that I was aware of. I was nothing like that. Q: You are both credited with sparking the "straight edge" movement, so how did you feel about singing songs like "Six Pack" and "TV Party" during your time in Black Flag, even though you don't drink alcohol or engage in that sort of behavior?" A: I had nothing to do with straight edge really. The songs you mention are parodies as the lyrics make obviously clear. Q: "Eye Scream" was probably my favorite of the books that I've read, that you wrote. There was something very "beat". Did any of the City Lights Books roster of writers influence you? A: I tried to read Burroughs and could never complete a book. The Beats never grabbed me besides Ginsberg's Howl, which I thought was incredible. The thing I wrote in Eye Scream called Everything, is a tribute to Howl. Q: Being a publisher yourself, have you ever had the chance to get to know Lawrence Ferlinghetti? A: No. Q: Jello Biafra, even Hunter S. Thompson, who followed a somewhat punk ethic, attempted politics. Is it within the realm of possibility for you to ever consider, maybe down the line, running for some sort of office to change things directly (or would that go against the grain of what you stand for?) A: I have not the intellect or stamina to get any traction in that arena. I like being a private citizen, it gives me a lot of lattitude. Q: When you played the role of AJ Weston in the FX television series "Sons of Anarchy", did you have to "empathize" to a certain degree with the white supremist's character to play the part convincingly? Did it ever disgust you? A: No. It's just work and I do it the best I can. I know that I am acting and that at the end of the day, I get in my car and leave the set. Q: Do you mind getting killed off in most of the movie roles you do? Any upcoming movie roles? A: I don't mind at all. I am grateful for the work. I work for a living. I am not an artist. Q: Details magazine named you Man of the Year in 1994. Did you hesitate to accept this title? Or was it an honor? A: It wasn't a title they give out yearly, it was just something they put on the cover. I was happy for the coverage and hoped it would help my band.holy crap! haha. it's only a matter of time before its pulled .... forgot about the Ann Coulter expletive LOL Thanks everyone for your inputHey Shades, maybe we ought to re-post this on R&S, and we'll get some foaming-a-the-mouth responses over his Fox News remark. LOL Thanks sookieLOL hey Beatle, looks like we're both geriatrics. This is going to be publiished online, with the local entertainment weekkly more
