Voting Question: Do I fit your expectations of a lazy, tax evading, freeloading Liberal convicted felon?
I went to college in the 1960's on the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant Program. I stayed in school until the free money ran out but earned a BA in Philosophy. When they made me leave school I got drafted. I tried to tell them that I was gay but they didn't believe me and sent me to Basic Training. To get out of the Army I shot myself in the foot with an M16 rifle and they had to discharge me. I told them that it was an accident but they didn't believe me so I sued them and they had to give me a partial disability for the missing toe. My father died and left me his 36 foot Alberg Sailboat which I moved onto along with my college girlfriend, Sophie. I started smuggling marijuana with the boat and got away with it for several years. One night the Coast Guard busted me as I was entering Destin Pass with a load of good Panama Red and they sent me to Federal Prison for four years. The DEA confiscated the boat but I had Sophie but it back at auction with money we had stashed from the pot running. Sophie stayed on the boat until they released me. While in prison they taught me computer graphics and I worked in the prison printing shop. When I got out of the joint I bought a Mac and began making fake ID cards for college students and fake papers for the Haitians in South Florida. I made good money doing this and saved enough over time for an extended cruise to the Bahamas and points south. I played music in the bars for extra money and since Sophie was a dance major in college she would sometimes dance at the topless clubs, sometimes knocking down a grand in one night. We kept this us for several years until my Uncle died and left us a little house on a canal in Cape Coral, Florida. We left the boat there and took off to "see America" in a camper van. We would stop in various cities and rent a Home Away motel. Sophie would dance when neccessary and I would play a few gigs at the bars. We ended up in Berkeley and rented a small apartment and Sophie danced while I finished my Masters in Philosophy. We went back to Cape Coral where I gave sailing lessons for the tourists and Sophie opened a dance studio teaching the rich folks kids modern dance and ballet. One of Sophie's little student's Mom was friends with Jeb Bush, the Governor of Florida. She liked Sophie and Sophie gave the daughter free lessons in return for her having Jeb arrange a pardon for me through his brother, George W. Bush so now I have a clean record. I turned 62 last year and got a letter from the Social Security Administration saying that I could start collecting my benefits. I thought it was a mistake since I had never had a real tax paying job but it turned out that I had paid taxes on my prison salary and did qualify. They now send me a check. I was recently offered a job with the State of Florida teaching Philosophy at the State Prison as part of a State/Federal college program for inmates. The director of the program is an old friend I met in the joint. I don't think that I will take it because any earned income above $12,000 penalizes by Social Security money so I will probably just help Sophie around the dance studio, maybe teaching guitar to the kids and be a mentor to them as best I can. But after meeting Gov. Bush I got interested in politics and worked as a volunteer on the Obama campaign. Several of our friends are encouraging me to run for Mayor of Cape Coral, Florida and I am considering it. My platform will be simple. I have nothing to hide. Good honest government.
