Extended Stay Com Questions asked

Resolved Question: Return ticket Poland<-> Philippines<->Poland w/the stay of 175 days?

The problem is I will hv a tourist visa for 59 days to stay in the Phils n Im gonna extend my stay there twice. Of course I'v bought return ticket w/a date of departure 4th Oct n return from Manila on 28th Mar next year. I talked to the officer from the Phili embassy in Poland that it is OK. However reading posts on the Net, I could find out that the immigration regulation of a country is not the same like the situation at airports. At airports u must follow regulations of Timatic Database or maybe just a poor knowledge of official there. I'v read on one post that: "The laws/rules, as dictated by the Tmatic database … which all major airlines are set up to follow … says that passengers must have return or onward travel in-hand before boarding … within their period of authorized stay. The law does _not_ account for extending. If no visa, must have onward travel within 21 days of arrival. If on a tourist visa, must have onward travel within 59 days of arrival in the Philipines. " ( http://philfaqs.com/get-there/visas/do-i-need-a-visa/ ) After reading this Im confused if my travel to the Phils is safe n I won't be stopped on one of transit airport especially (Frankfurt, Doha). Hv anyone had such a situation? If not, where should I call to be sure not to hv such problems? more

Resolved Question: Would you answer this other Yahoo! Answers question differently if you had the purposely excluded details?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqtVH1Z2f4ykH3dBGDNNn2Xsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100825052706AAS7FQI My wife posted the above question online after we resolved the issue the night before (this question reopened the argument). Although her answers seem a little broad, they are tainted because she left out some really important details and I wanted to include them to see if the answers would change. Extended Information I'm the husband. I'm fighting an unemployment claim and I think I'm going to lose so I'm under a lot of stress caused by the fact that I might have to pay back all the unemployment that I just received ($3,000ish). At the same time, my wife and I have have had a terrible relationship; even before I was laid off, she fought with me because I'm a sex addict and she HATES sex (we have it once every month). Because of us constantly fighting over sex, she thinks I'm going to cheat on her with every creature I encounter and has treated me with low trust/respect because of her neglect in bed. She knows that all my friends growing up were girls, but to make her happy (not jealous) I had to stop talking with all of them to have a happy home. Her friend was my friend before she was my wife's but I turned my friendship to her husband instead. She's a tomboy (totally not my type, I like the prissy feminine plastic type and my wife knows that). She's had male friends her whole life but because of her husband is a bit of a jerk, all her male friends were scared away. Her friend's marriage is dwindling in love, her husband (my buddy) is acting very aggressive towards her and is making her life miserable. Her and her husband have an open relationship (f'ed up if you ask me); they can have sexual relations with anyone that's not in a relationship already (so it excludes me, and my wife knows that). Since I'm friends with her husband, I was planning on planting seeds with her husband to make her friend's life better. I have also been fighting with her friend about polygamous relationships and telling her that since she feels like he doesn't love her it could be because he could be getting the "love" from someone else. Her friend, as I told my wife before I chose to stay up with her, was a neutral party that we needed help from each other to solve each other's problems. After talking about our problems, we played games of Scrabble on the computer while drinking alcohol (it was needed to calm my nerves). My neck was sore/pinching after playing for 5 hours and she gave me a 2 minute rub since she was a masseuse. I told her that it was a nice gesture and I would have to pay her back tomorrow to be fair. My wife was upset because her friend was over to spend time with her and because of her working and not me (I can't find work, I've been trying - I'm NOT a dead beat) she couldn't stay up and entertain her friend. I took advantage of the TIME that she was surrendering by staying up late with her friend so I could have her help sort out my problems and make me forget about my unemployment issue. It was a set of innocent nights, of two friends, that have marital issues but wanted to solve them. Nothing less, nothing more. My wife knew this. So after knowing ALL the details, does my wife have a jealousy problem and she's making an innocent massage between two friends more than it was or is this inappropriate and I was trying to cheat on her because my wife and I NEVER have sex?@Happy-2 - She hates sex, why would she want that? Her father cheated on her mother and she hates ALL men that can't be monogamous with their spouses. A 3some and 4some wouldn't solve the problem (although it would be hella fun)@deborahg -- I respect your honest answer and may choose it for best if no one else can give me more details. I agree with you but only to a point. See my wife and her friend act like high school girlfriends, they do sleep overs and they watch tv shows until 5 am, they stay up and talk about my relationship and her relationship... They act like two 18 year old girls just out of high school. Another thing she's not telling anyone is that the four of us have known each other for a LONG time and they even lived with us as room mates in our basement. So I'm not a "new found friend" for her friend, we've been friends for 6 years and we all care about each other (so I thought anyways). I have only 1 friend in my life - her friend's husband.... Between marital issues and the lack of sex, I can't even consider my wife a friend because we're constantly at war with each other... So if I could make my ONLY friend happier by solving their issues, I think I'm being a good friend...@Charley -- In my defense. I AM devoted to her; or at least I was... I'm more than just about sex. I care about her. I give HER massages almost every time she asks for it (it seems daily lately). I pop the zits on her back nightly because they hurt. I cuddle her when she's cold. I do so much! We can't afford babysitters for a weekend getaway or a private candle dinner, but I try to do all the things that a man would naturally know to do to make sure she knows that I love her. I gave up recently because it's never enough, she won't tell me what it'll take, but I would do anything for her. It doesn't help that I've been doing all the chores, cooking, cleaning, caring for the kids, all the man duties, and practically everything else so that when my wife comes home from work, she can wind down by gossiping like a teenager on Facebook then she can watch a movie with the kids and me, then go to bed. I only stopped doing this recently because I'm not getting any appreciation for my work.@whoever thinks I would feel differently in her shoes ---- I trust my wife. I don't trust men I don't know but if it were her friend's husband and my wife, I would be okay with it. It was a massage. No one massaged any breasts or penises, so if anything it would be her friend's husband doing me a favor because if he didn't do it, I would have needed to... My wife gives TERRIBLE backrubs... She's "afraid of hurting me" so she tickles my back instead of applying pressure... I've hired her friend as a masseuse before per my wife's approval... So the fact this is even an issue is freakin' retarded... I think if she wasn't so hung up on how her dad cheated on her mom, I would be trusted just the same as her...@anyone upset about my sex addict comment ---- To clarify - I'm sex addict with her. I really lust over her (despite her being a b|tch most the time)... I'm probably the only one that still feels VERY sexually attracted to their wife, even after constant warfare... I love my wife and her body... Men don't just marry someone because they love her, they marry a woman because they have a physical attraction to them and I haven't lost mine for her...@michelle r -- I'm not going to say it again. I wasn't cheating... You women watch way too many soap operas... Why can't it just smell like sh|t, taste like sh|t, but turn out to be a flower that just stinks bad??? I'm okay with everyone not liking the massage, the layers of friendship that most people have with their friends is never that close to do a nice gesture while keeping it strictly platonic... I think that it should be clear that I was merely entertaining a guest. If this Tomboy was really a man, would it make a difference??? What if he was a gay man? I think you all are putting gender differences and your soap opera ideas into this too much... Can't a man be a man without being thought of as a sexist pig? Again, I'm not having double standards. An "open relationship" is a sex thing - a massage with clothes on and not touching sexual areas, is a kind gesture... Get your facts straight.@ Big Marc -- her friend and I told her about the massage... As a matter of fact. I gave my wife AND her friend a massage while we were all playing Scrabble the very next day!!! We have an open friendship (no sex) with this couple. After being friends for 6 years, you'd think most people would be kinder people to each other...@Tat - didn't realize you already posted on my question. Thanks anyways. more

Resolved Question: Did my Mercedes-Benz Radiator Blow Up?

I have a 1996 Mercedes-Benz E300D. As I was driving it down the interstate today, out of the clear blue sky, I saw mist all over the windshield. I peered towards the heavens, but there was nary a cloud there - which is when I noticed the sweet coolant smell coming from the green (!!) fluid under my hood. So first thing - I had my car in at a local independent MB shop to remove a stuck glowplug ($2300, pleaseandthanks ). He apparently must of put the wrong coolant in, and while I don't really understand the metallurgical problem of using the "green stuff" I've always heeded the admonitions here and used the Zerex G-05 stuff. So I'm not sure if this was a contributing factor to my problems. At any rate - I checked the hoses and they don't appear to have holes or tears or anything. There is a large concentration of coolant suspended (kinda like a sponge) within the radiator itself, which leads me to believe the radiator's blown itself. I've felt for a while that my vehicle runs a bit hot, always above the halfway mark, sometimes at idle way up there, but I've never let it get into the red and always make sure it's well below red before turning the car off. I live in Florida and it's really hot and got the impression here that my coolant gauge "is a real indication of temperature" and that I shouldn't worry about it so long as it seems to stay out of the red zone. At the point of this happening, I had pulled of the side of the road in the shoulder to program my GPS, and then was really laying into the gas in acceleration to merge back with other traffic. So the engine speed may have also contributed to my predicament. So I'm wondering - is my analysis correct, is this likely a blown radiator? Is there a way to test using DIY supplies? I have an air compressor and most common tools. Is there a chance my (probably original) radiator had become plugged somehow, and this caused higher operating temperatures generally, and this failure finally? To what extend would this green fluid have caused issues? If it's determined I have radiator issues, I'm trying to source a replacement. There are a couple of cheap used ones on ebay, about $150. However they are for Gasoline versions of the car - E430 I think. I assume they would fit the body, but will they fit my engine and also provide adequate cooling power for a diesel? Do radiator develop issues over time and need to be replaced generally? Mine had almost 200k on it. Is there an advantage to buying a new one, and if I do is autohausaz.com still a good supplier? Most of their stuff used to say specifically OEM, but I've noticed that's no longer the case (at least it's not listed as OEM). They are selling a brand "Nissens" and my current radiator is a Behr. Thanks for any insight you can provide!! more

Resolved Question: Can someone explain to me how a financial REFORM bill gives the Federal Reserve MORE power?

Let's recap: The Federal Reserve will become even more powerful than they were before (you know, since they did such an AWESOME job fking up the first time around). Despite their epic failure the first time, a FULL audit of the Federal Rerserve also got ditched. Fannie and Freddie (which have been extended an unlimited line of credit by the Obama treasury) is no where in this bill, Too Big to Fail appears to be here to stay (surprise surprise), derivatives aren't getting touched in any kind of substantive manner, AND the SAME Federal Reserve will house a "consumer protection agency" (LOL.........isn't this like asking Lindsay Lohan to make sure kids don't do drugs??) And don't forget banks don't even have to comply with many of these watered down new rules for almost 10 years.... Does anybody know why bringing back Glass-Stegall was ditched?? And why Fannie and Freddie (which have already lost the tax payer over $160 billion, could balloon to a trillion) are nowhere to be found in this bill?? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_financial_overhaul;_ylt=AnOpwlKOqU_.NDDuHAM1Gius0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTNnMGJlbmxwBGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAwNzE1L3VzX2ZpbmFuY2lhbF9vdmVyaGF1bARjY29kZQNyYW5kb20EY3BvcwMxBHBvcwMyBHB0A2hvbWVfY29rZQRzZWMDeW5fdG9wX3N0b3J5BHNsawNzZW5hdGVjbGVhcnM-#mwpphu-container For a president hungry for good news, passage Thursday would be a welcome achievement. The legislation has been an Obama priority, and in its final form it hews closely to the plan his administration unveiled a year ago. But its political benefits in a heated midterm election year stand to be overshadowed by lingering high unemployment. Speaking on the Senate floor Thursday, Dodd, D-Conn., conceded that the bill's impact will not be evident immediately. "It is not a perfect bill, I will be the first to admit that," he said. "It will take the next economic crisis, as certainly it will come, to determine whether or not the provisions of this bill will actually provide this generation or the next generation of regulators with the tools necessary to minimize the effects of that crisis." Industry lobbyists fought feverishly against a number of restrictions in the bill, ultimately winning some concessions. In the end, the final bill was tougher than they wanted but not as restrictive as they feared.I mean this bill is literally called the DODD-FRANK bill. Chris Dodd (the one who wrote the AIG bonus language into original TARP bill, and got sweetheart deal from Countrywide) and Barney Frank (who said those who warned in 2003 that Fannie and Freddie were in serious trouble were just fear mongering). more

Resolved Question: What hobby is more pointless: Editing Wikipedia or making Star Wars costumes?

Is it wrong to edit Wikipedia as a hobby for the enjoyment of the activity? Whenever I've edited Wikipedia, I've done so as a way to extend my interests in the topic areas I've been editing. And, I've looked at writing Wikipedia articles as something semi-productive in my spare time, since someone might actually be interested in the subjects of those articles. Is it wrong to treat Wikipedia editing as a hobby? How does that compare to, say, making Star Wars costumes? There are a lot of people out there who make Star Wars costumes in their spare time, like those at http://www.501st.com/ . A lot of people think of costuming as a dumb hobby and a way to stay nerdy, instead of actually having to get outside. Other people collect stamps as a hobby, or go to Civil War reenactments, or make their own home-brewed beer. Judging by the discussion in this category of Yahoo! Answers, though, editing Wikipedia is to be discouraged, because the encyclopedia is always wrong, living people have errors in their biographies, Jimbo is getting huge paychecks from the lecture circuit, and he's probably sleeping with someone. So what makes Wikipedia more pointless as a hobby than making a replica Stormtrooper costume? more

Resolved Question: Why can't Democrats stay in Washington rather go on vacation?

Resolved Question: Legality of extending a work shift of an hourly employee without notice?

Background and lead up: I work at a K-mart and there have been cut backs on staffing. There is a particular position that has been indefinitely discontinued that normally takes care of facing a large portion of the store along with helping with breaks. Well now that there has been only two people working on what 3 people have been able to take care of, the store hasn't been faced entirely for many weeks and general quality has decreased because that portion is now expected to fall on the other two employees. Those two already manage layaway and electronics. On a fairly busy day, its safe to say that it is physically impossible for just two people to do it in the allotted time frame. So here is my question: Is it legal for a manager to tell you, not ask if you're able, in the middle of your shift that you are required to stay until the store is faced, regardless of what your scheduled for? Extra: The way that it was explained to me was that if the store was not faced at 9:30pm, (normal dismissal time) everyone will stay till 10:00pm. If its not done at 10:00pm, then everyone will stay until 10:30pm... etc. This happened to me last night with 11 people on the clock. We stayed until 10:00pm which would total 5.5 hours that apparently weren't budgeted. 5.5 hours is about the same amount of time that the 3rd person would work if scheduled for it. PLEASE SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY, any comments please e-mail me at my yahoo: neasdrone@yahoo.com Also, other Kmart employees that this has happened to, please shoot me a message as well. Thank you kindly. more

Resolved Question: Your thoughts Lawmakers Warn of Administration Plan to Grant Amnesty to Illegal Immigrants?

Eight Republican senators and an independent group that supports tighter limits on immigration are warning that the Obama administration is drafting a plan to "unilaterally" issue blanket amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants as it struggles to win support in Congress for an overhaul of immigration laws. The senators who wrote the White House on Monday say they are concerned that the administration is readying a "Plan B" in case a comprehensive reform bill cannot win enough support to clear Congress. "It seems more real than just bullying (Republicans) into a bill -- that it's a plan that they can actually put forward ... circumventing Congress," an aide told FoxNews.com on Wednesday. In their letter, the senators -- Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; Orrin Hatch, R-Utah; David Vitter, R-La.; Jim Bunning, R-Ky.; Saxby Chambliss, Ga.; Johnny Isakson, R-Ga.; James Inhofe, R-Okla.; and Thad Cochran, R-Miss. -- urge the president to "abandon" what they say is a move to "unilaterally extend either deferred action or parole to millions of illegal aliens in the United States." "Such a move would further erode the American public's confidence in the federal government and its commitment to securing the borders and enforcing the laws already on the books," they wrote. Deferred action and parole, which give illegal immigrants the ability to seek a work permit and temporary legal status, are normally granted on a case-by-case basis. But the aide said the lawmakers have learned from "sources" that the administration is considering flexing its authority to grant the status on a mass basis. Numbers USA, an organization that presses for lower immigration levels along with humanitarian treatment of illegal immigrants, has started a petition to the president expressing "outrage" at the alleged plan. Rosemary Jenks, director of government relations with Numbers USA, said she's been hearing for weeks from "sources close to the Democratic leadership" in both chambers that administration officials are discussing whether the Department of Homeland Security could direct staff to grant "amnesty" for all illegal immigrants in the country. "They're trying to figure out ways around a vote," she said. "Any attempt to force an amnesty on the American people using this underhanded method smacks of despotism," reads the fax the group is urging supporters to sign. The White House has not responded to a request for comment. The Department of Homeland Security estimated last year that 10.8 million undocumented residents live in the United States; other estimates have ranged higher. Any move to grant blanket legal status, even temporary, would raise questions about how Homeland Security would be able to handle the caseload. Jenks said Congress certainly wouldn't grant the administration the funding for more caseworkers. The purported discussions of a blanket amnesty come in the middle of several concurrent and heated debates over illegal immigration. The recently signed immigration law in Arizona has divided the country, with some states trying to replicate the state's tough legislation and other jurisdictions boycotting the state in protest. The Obama administration plans to file a court challenge. Democrats, meanwhile, have been trying to round up support for an overhaul bill in Congress, and the Interior Department is facing renewed criticism from Republican lawmakers over restrictions it places on Border Patrol officers policing the border on federal lands. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., shocked several Arizona residents last week when he told them that Obama had said he would not beef up border security because it would leave Republicans without an incentive to pass broader immigration reforms. Jenks said the talks about Homeland Security allowing illegal immigrants to stay are "serious." Under the law, immigration officials can grant deferred action to temporarily postpone removing an illegal immigrant from the country. That status does not offer a guarantee that they won't face deportation, but Jenks said illegal immigrants granted parole are often allowed to seek permanent legal status. If a "Plan B" is being discussed, it's unclear how far along the talks might be. Another GOP Senate aide said the discussions started after Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Richard Lugar, R-Ind., called on Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in April to stop deportations of undocumented students who could earn legal status under a bill they introduced. A Senate Democratic aide said the Obama administration never responded to the April letter. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/23/lawmakers-warn-administration-plan-unilaterally-grant-blanket-amnesty/ more

The Department of Homeland Security estimated last year that 10.8 million undocumented residents live in the United other estimates have ranged higher. A Senate Democratic aide said the Obama administration never responded to the April letter. more

Resolved Question: Why would Obama allow Five Federal Lands in Arizona Have Travel Warnings in Place?

Imagine the federal government closing a section of the Lincoln Memorial because it was under the control of Mexican drug lords and bands of illegal immigrants. That scenario is playing out as reality in southern Arizona, where parts of five federal lands -- including two designated national monuments -- continue to post travel warnings or be outright closed to Americans who own the land because of the dangers of "human and drug trafficking" along the Mexican border. Roughly 3,500 acres of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge -- about 3 percent of the 118,000-acre park -- have been closed since Oct. 6, 2006, when U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials acknowledged a marked increase in violence along a tract of land that extends north from the border for roughly three-quarters of a mile. Federal officials say they have no plans to reopen the area. Elsewhere, at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, which shares a 32-mile stretch of the border with Mexico, visitors are warned on a federally-run website that some areas are not accessible by anyone. "Due to our proximity to the International Boundary with Mexico, some areas near the border are closed for construction and visitor safety concerns," the website reads. On another page titled "Border Concerns," the website warns that visitors should be aware that "drug smuggling routes" pass through the park. "If you see any activity which looks illegal, suspicious, or out of place, please do not intervene," the website reads. "Note your location. Call 911 or report it to a ranger as quickly as possible. Each year hundreds of people travel north through the park seeking to enter the United States." Visitors are also warned to be mindful of illegal immigrants within Ironwood Forest National Monument, a 129,000-acre federal parkland in the Sonoran Desert. "All suspected illegal activities should be reported to [the Bureau of Land Management] or local law enforcement authorities," Ironwood Forest's website reads. "Visitors should stay safe by avoiding contact with persons exhibiting suspicious behavior or engaged in dangerous activities. Drive with caution and look for fast-moving vehicles and pedestrians on back roads." Dennis Godfrey, a spokesman for the Bureau of Land Management's Arizona office, said roughly a dozen signs were posted earlier this month along the Sonoran Desert National Monument advising that travel in the area is not recommended due to "active drug and human" smuggling. The signs are not far from where a Pinal County deputy was shot and killed during a confrontation with marijuana smugglers in April and the fatal shooting of two men suspected to be drug smugglers. "It is a corridor for smugglers of all types," Godfrey told FoxNews.com. Similar signs have been posted at the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge and the Coronado National Forest, which covers nearly 1.8 million acres in southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/06/18/federal-lands-arizona-travel-warnings-place/Where are the ENVIROS? or are they happy that only the illegals get to inhabit the “protected” area. more

Resolved Question: What do you think Obama ordering art classes, bingo, and fresh veggies for detained illegals?

The Houston Chronicle has reported the details of an internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement email, that though seem laughable, have been confirmed by an ICE official. The email lists changes which have been ordered at several immigration detainment centers…changes that will make the facilities seem more like extended-stay hotels than jails. Beth Gibson, ICE's senior counselor to Assistant Secretary John Morton confirmed the changes, and reports that much of the new policy will be implemented within the next 30 days at detainment centers from California to New Jersey. Gibson defended the changes, saying: “When people come to our custody, we're detaining them to effect their removal. It's about deportation. It's not about punishing people for a crime they committed.” The changes include: -hanging plants -free movement for detainees -longer visiting hours -replacing guards with “unit managers” -allowing detainees to wear their own clothing -email access -free phone service -dance classes -movie nights -art classes -cooking classes -tutoring and computer training -self-serve beverage stations -fresh vegetable bars In addition to the new amenities, ICE also plans to reduce or even eliminate pat-down searches, which raises particular concern for Tre Rebstock, president for Local 3332, the ICE union in Houston. Rebstock told the Houston Chronicle: “Our biggest concern is that someone is going to get hurt.” Rebstock continued: “My grandparents would have loved to have bingo night and a dance class at the retirement home they were in when they passed away, but that was something we would have had to pay for. And yet these guys are getting it on the taxpayers' dime.” http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-35821-Immigration-Reform-Examiner~y2010m6d10-Obama-ordering-art-classes-bingo-and-fresh-veggies-for-detained-illegal-aliens more

Voting Question: Temporary housing in Fort Knox/Louisville?

I am marrying my fiancee in just over 2 weeks. He is a soldier stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Because the Army is the way it is, the soonest we could get on base housing would be 6 months. I cannot stay with him in the barracks, even though we will be married. The only temporary housing we have found has a minimum of 3 months. We will only need it for 1 month. I will have to return to Texas to work after that. We did find EXTREMELY sketchy extended stay hotels on the south side of Louisville. We didn't feel safe there. Does anybody know of anything that would work? We looked on Craiglist.com to no real solution. My fiancee refuses to do any roommate situation for our first month of marriage. We are looking at spending well over $1500 for just one month! And that's on top of my rent I'll be paying for my place in Texas. I'm a teacher and he is an enlisted soldier. Any credible suggestion on what to do would be helpful. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: What is there to do Nov/Dec in Barbados - read on please -?

The Icelandic volcanic ash ( Eyjafjallajokul = copy/paste - don't ask me to pronounce the name!) cancelled our holiday to your Island in April. We have re-booked for an extended stay from the end of November (21st). We will be doing the usual tourist things but want to know about those less known places and things to do. Are there any special events we should plan to go to - we know about Independence Day on the 30th Nov. We would like to know about things that take us away from the usual tourist events. We are going to be staying on the South coast. We especially love the East/North coast - (a bit like our West coast in Ireland - less the rain of course), so any ideas for places to visit along with the usual tourist lunch at The Atlantis Hotel, a visit to the Andromeda Gds etc would be appreciated. We have read about the "Segway" trips on the North coast - any good? We would love to sample local music/culture and any small festivals - however remote – we will have a hire car for a few weeks. Our adventurous daughter (25) is especially interested in the Aerial Trek Zipline Adventure - Walkes Spring Plantation, Jack-in-the-Box Gully, St. Thomas - any thoughts? - me=Dad, has no head for heights so I will not be taking part!, but I am willing to have a Banks in the café while waiting. We will be travelling the whole Island - so any interesting places not covered by the usual websites - totallybarbados/barbados.org/funbarbados.com etc would be welcome. Is Baxter’s Road in Bridgetown safe after dark? We want to sample a few good local rum shops with character and meet the locals. Thanks to those who answered my last Barbados question - Highly Favoured, Bajan Princess and Yomesmo. Regards - Peter - from Ireland more

Resolved Question: Why Americans rejecting work offers so they can continue collecting unemployment benefits?

In a state with the nation's highest jobless rate, landscaping companies are finding some job applicants are rejecting work offers so they can continue collecting unemployment benefits. It is unclear whether this trend is affecting other seasonal industries. But the fact that some seasonal landscaping workers choose to stay home and collect a check from the state, rather than work outside for a full week and spend money for gas, taxes and other expenses, raises questions about whether extended unemployment benefits give the jobless an incentive to avoid work. Members of the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association "have told me that they have a lot of people applying but that when they actually talk to them, it turns out that they're on unemployment and not looking for work," said Amy Frankmann, the group's executive director. "It is starting to make things difficult." Chris Pompeo, vice president of operations for Landscape America in Warren, said he has had about a dozen offers declined. One applicant, who had eight weeks to go until his state unemployment benefits ran out, asked for a deferred start date. "It's like, you've got to be kidding me," Pompeo said. "It's frustrating. It's honestly something I've never seen before. They say, 'Oh, OK,' like I surprised them by offering them a job." Some job applicants are asking to be paid in cash so they can collect unemployment illegally, said Gayle Younglove, vice president at Outdoor Experts Inc. in Romulus. "Unfortunately, we feel the economy is promoting more and more people and companies to play the system and get paid or collect cash money so they don't have to pay taxes," Younglove said. $12-per-hour jobs A person becomes ineligible for benefits if he or she fails to accept suitable work, said Stephen Geskey, director of Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency. The average landscape worker earns about $12 per hour, according to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth. A full-time landscaping employee would make $225 more a week working than from an unemployment check of $255. But after federal and state taxes are deducted, a full-time landscaper would earn $350 a week, or $95 more than a jobless check. The gap could narrow further for those who worked at other higher-paying seasonal jobs, such as construction or roofing, which would result in a larger benefits check. http://detnews.com/article/20100510/BIZ/5100335/ more

Resolved Question: Why do illegals think we are suppose to give them a free college education?

A group of undocumented students is seeking a meeting with new Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Scott Brown. The groups Harvard Act on a Dream and the Student Immigrant Movement announced today an online petition and letter writing campaign in an effort to push a meeting with the Republican Senator. Renata Teodoro, a 22-year-old undocumented student who has lived in the U.S. for 16 years, said students want Brown to hear their stories. She said the students also hope Brown becomes their advocate, like the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, the man Brown replaced in the Senate Brown spokeswoman Gail Gitcho said Brown’s office has received the request and will ask for more information to study the students’ issues. During the his campaign, Brown said he was against granting driver’s licenses and in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants http://news.bostonherald.com/news/politics/view.bg?articleid=1245757 I truly don't understand why this is even an issue. The first act these students (or their parents) committed in this country was to violate our laws. By staying an extended period of time, they have continued to violate our laws. I wish they'd explain to me what, exactly, gives them the right to jump ahead of those who wait their turn and come here legally? What part of ILLEGAL isn't clear to them? more

Resolved Question: How good of a job has the media done in painting a false image in people's heads that Dirk is soft?

READ ALL The American media for a long time now has just blatantly labeled any international they see soft and one thing is that the fans now days will believe them without even looking at the facts for themselves. Lets look at the facts..... If Dirk is so soft, how come in 2008 when he had a hyper extended ankle that was damaged badly he came back early to drag his team into the playoffs. When Dirk got hurt that year he was suppose to be out longer and he came back early because his team was in danger of not making the playoffs with the Warriors and Nuggets creeping behind them. He came back early and still brought his team to the playoffs and averaged 26.8ppg, 12rpg, and 4apg on one foot against the hornets. * Dirk has only missed more games than Pierce and Miller for active players and has even missed less time than Kobe Bryant and only missed around 30 something games for his entire career. That shows his durability and toughness right there. * Kobe has had his pinky and back hyped up this year to be made worse than what it was and got credit. Well anyone that follows Dallas knows Nowitzki had Carl's teeth jammed in his elbow causing a laceration and missed only missed 1 game because of it. He also jammed his finger caught in Grants shoe and had an elbow injury from a Kenyon Martin foul and yet he still finds a way to stay on the floor. He has the mentality of the player in the 80s to just lace it up no matter how bad you're hurt. ___ Obviously Dirk isn't soft pain threshold wise so how about mental toughness so I can clear up all categories. Yeah sure 2007 wasn't his best playoff series against the Warriors but his dad was going through major lung surgery during that series due to a life of smoking and Dirk had to call during halftime of every single game in that series to make sure he was ok. If your dad is going to possibly die there is no way you can perform at the MVP level he did during that regular season and he still managed to averaged 20 and 10 in that series. PROOF about dad: http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/4094/a-close-look-at-dirk-nowitzki __ Last, last year against the Nuggets he had an off the court issue with his ex-fiancee claiming to have had his child and she was being locked up and in jail and she was a fraud and was wanted which was why she was under multiple aliases and Dirk still told his team he wouldn't let them down and averaged 34.4ppg, 12rpg, 4apg, 50%fg, 39%3pt, 90%ft in the Nuggets series with that going on in his personal life. Yet last time Kobe had the rape issue (which btw isn't as bad as the father issue Dirk had or this) still performed worse than Dirk's warriors series and obviously the Nuggets series because he was a beast, yet people don't call him soft and Nowitzki is? Double standards? Pain threshold wise and mental wise Dirk is probably the toughest player pound for pound. The media did a great job painting an image in gullible fans heads. And if he gets that rep for being a finesse player then that is just silly. The man isn't soft. more

Resolved Question: My baby girl is here!! (not a question)?

Hey everyone... I just wanted to share with you all that I had my little girl through c-section on March 18!! She was born at 37 weeks 1 day at 12:46 pm weighed in a whopping 9 LBS 14 oz height 20 3/4 inches!! When she was born she had a blood sugar of only 16 and was fed then and there. After that we ended up staying at the hospital a little longer then hoped for. First she wouldnt eat much and her belly was over extended and she threw up everything that she was trying to eat...she ended up in the NICU for 4 days with a tube down her throat an I.V. in her ankle and monitors all over her. The I.V. was to keep her sugar levels up because she wasn't eating, the tube down her throat to pull out air and to feed her formula. Since she was born "full term" but yet 3 weeks early she had preemie type of problems...she didnt know how to suck properly and things like that...After that was getting better she ended up with jaundice and had to be under the lights for 2 days. So my poor little girl has been through a lot in her short time here. Luckily though she has gotten better and has learned how to suck in order to eat and the air in her stomach has resolved and is no longer there. We are now home and she is a very calm quiet baby and to me of course is a very beautiful baby. Here are a few pics for you. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/midnightrain/25761_106811032670376_1000002443805.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/midnightrain/25761_106811022670377_1000002443805.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/midnightrain/Snapshot_20100321_2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/midnightrain/Snapshot_20100321_6.jpgI should add I have big babies because I have pre existing diabetes and my son was born at 10 lbs 2 oz...lol more

Resolved Question: If the PORKULUS was supposed to cap unemployment at 8%, why does 0bama NOW say it's going to stay near 10%!?

Obama Aides See ‘Extended Period’ of Unemployment (Update1) March 16 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. employers won’t hire enough workers this year to lower the jobless rate much below the level of 9.7 percent reached in February, three Obama administration economic officials said today. The proportion of Americans who can’t find work is likely to “remain elevated for an extended period,” Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, White House budget director Peter Orszag and Christina Romer, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, said in a joint statement. The officials said unemployment may even rise “slightly” over the next few months as discouraged workers start job-hunting again. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aXaMufrB.FA0 PORKULUS and SON OF PORKULUS... Resolved Question: Some key points to show to prove america is an empire?

doing school thesis essay. I have to prove its an Empire ... ive got a bit so far... its rough draft no intext or anything is done right nd i havent got enough information for some stuff. The United States as an Empire As America being the worlds last superpower the debate goes on whether its an empire or not, America is an empire, if you compare it to what was once the worlds greatest superpower, Britain, there are many similarities. We have troops anywhere that we have major interests e.g. oil in the middle east. We will wage wars on any threats, and we are a large consumer of resources (newsflavor.com). Empires have existed for thousands of years. An empire is something that exists when a tribe or society exercises extended domination over one or more external nations, and through this domination the empire is able to locate key results in the dominated societies. Being able to determine these results in the most important point to becoming and staying an empire. Those who hold such power should be able to come up with the economic benefits, how to access important and necessary resources, military strategy, and other powers benefiting from this political arrangement. (JAMES LAXER)? (WHAT AMERICA OWNS) One of the best known wars America has fought was the Spanish- American war. It was fought without much preparation, but our will was strong. This war was ended with signing of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. This treaty ceded Puerto Rico to the United States. Oil is one of America’s most important lifestyle necessities. We will fight to get it in today’s economy. Many people thought the war with Iraq was fought for terrorist reasons, but in all truth it was fought for their oil. The war had nothing to do with terrorism, and completely to do with oil. President George W. Bush’s cabinet agreed in April 2001 that “Iraq remains a destabilizing influence to the flow of oil to international markets from the Middle East' and because this is an unacceptable risk to the US 'military intervention' is necessary.” (Sunday Herald). This is almost enough in itself to prove that America is an empire. So i need some more points to use.. i also need 4 more primary sources at lease... im going to use the treaty of paris as one .. so only 3 i guess... ... HELP due the 19th and im only 1/3 of the way done with this more

Resolved Question: Home sales are actually up? Does that home sales are actually up, make you feel the "depression" isn't real?

According to the national Realtor association home sales are up 17.4% in the last two months. --quote-- November home sales leap - NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- After surging 10% in October, sales of existing homes jumped again in November, growing 7.4% compared with October to an annualized rate of 6.54 million units, according to the National Association of Realtors. "This clearly is a rush of first-time buyers not wanting to miss out on the tax credit," said NAR's chief economist, Lawrence Yun. November was originally going to be the last month in which sales to first-time homebuyers would qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $8,000. However, that deadline was extended through June. In addition, the tax credit was expanded to cover people who already own a home. They can qualify for a $6,500 tax credit if purchase a new house before the end of June. That should encourage "trade-up" buyers. The strength of sales in November surprised the industry. A panel of experts compiled by Briefing.com had forecast month-over-month sales growth of just 2.5% to 6.25 million from 6.1 million a month earlier. The sales total was also a huge improvement over a year ago. Sales rose 45.7% over the paltry annualized rate of 4.49 million units during November 2008. The contribution made by first-time buyers is evident in a separate survey NAR conducted of its members. They estimate that 51% of sales in November were by newcomers to the market, up a point from 50% in October. Normally, first timers account for about 40% of sales. Also propelling sales higher were rock-bottom interest rates. The average for a 30-year, fixed-rate loan during the month was just 4.88%, down from 4.95% in October and 6.09% a year ago. With rates that much lower, homebuyers can save more than $150 a month on a $200,000 mortgage. The industry expects home sales to slacken December, partially because of the tax credit's originally scheduled demise. That caused some buyers to push up their closing, stealing sales from December. However, sales will not fall off a cliff, though, according to Walter Molony, a NAR spokesman. "The psychology seems to be turning around," he said. "Potential buyers, who had been staying on the fence, now believe we're at or near the market bottom." One X-factor, however, is the vast numbers of homes that may come to market over the next few months. There is a large "shadow inventory" -- homes owned by banks and mortgage companies -- that have not yet been put up for sale. It could be as many as 1.7 million units, according to First American CoreLogic. In addition, another spate of foreclosures could be hitting the market as a number of option-ARM mortgages are set to default. All that may drive prices down, according to Shari Olefson, author of "Foreclosure Nation: Mortgaging the American Dream." And the impact of these renewed price declines could again alter the market psychology. "People think that prices have bottomed," she said. "I don't think they have. People will see price declines and that will discourage them from buying." Mike Larson, a real estate analyst with Weiss Research has preached all through the bust that price declines are what will "fix" the housing crisis. "We needed to see prices fall to make ownership competitive with renting again, and to restore the normal relationship of house prices to income," he said. "That has now happened and you're seeing buyers come out of the woodwork as a result." Still, they will have to come out in large numbers to offset the inventory overhang in some of the worst markets, according to Olefson. In the Florida condo market, for example, there is a 35-to-40 month supply of units at the current rates of sale, she said. Prices still almost certainly have further to fall --quote-- source: http://money.cnn.com/2009/12/22/real_estate/november_existing_home_sales/index.htm more

Resolved Question: Is the US ever going to leave Iraq?

'>'We'll be in the region for the foreseeable future,'' said U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Allen G. Peck, deputy air commander of U.S. Central Command, which oversees the region. ''Our intention would be to stay as long as the host nations will have us.'' >Balad Air Base is among the world's busiest airports - in 2006 it was reported as second only to London's Heathrow Airport2. Bases like Balad are large enough to house internal bus lines, motorcycle and car dealerships, shopping malls, and even traffic- jammed roads3. The U.S. embassy in Iraq - the largest embassy in the world - approximates the size of the Vatican and runs its own electrical, power, and sewage plants. As former U.S. ambassador to Iraq Edward Peck said, "The embassy is going to have a thousand people hunkered behind sandbags. I don't know how you conduct diplomacy in that way"4. >Asad Base is 19 square miles, has two bus routes, a car dealership, a Burger King, a Pizza Hut, traffic rules and stop signs. The proposed 2006 supplemental budget for Iraq operations would provide $7.4 million to extend the no man's land and build new security fencing. 3/26/06 >3/15/06 "The United States may want to keep a long-term military presence in Iraq to bolster moderates against extremists in the region and protect the flow of oil." John Abizaid, Army general overseeing U.S. military operations in Iraq. >The U.S. military has more than $1.2 billion in projects either underway or planned in the Central Command region -- an expansion plan that U.S. commanders say is necessary both to sustain operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and to provide for a long-term presence in the area. >Robert Gates has hinted that the withdrawal of combat brigades will be accomplished through an administrative sleight of hand rather than by actually withdrawing all the combat brigade teams. Appearing on Meet the Press Mar. 1, Gates said the "transition force" would have "a very different kind of mission", and that the units remaining in Iraq "will be characterised differently". "They will be called advisory and assistance brigades," said Gates. "They won't be called combat brigades." http://www.boston.com/news/world/middleeast/articles/2006/03/26/signs_of_a_long_us_stay_ahead/?page=2 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/16/AR2005091601762_pf.html http://www.fcnl.org/iraq/bases.htmShh: You really believe they're just going to drop all those billion dollar bases and walk out? Resolved Question: What could this dream mean?

So i had a dream 2 nights ago where i went over to my friends house to hang out and my mother came to talk to her mom. So i stayed for dinner and i met this guy who was her friend and then my mom came back to pick me up. But then everything changed.... i saw people in the neighborhood screaming "Killer! Killer!" and i saw people running. And then i was on this porch, rats were coming out of everywhere, there were these kids. that looked like the people from Scooby Doo, shaggy velma daphne and Freddie.plus me, my friend and her other friend. Then i was looking at the edge of the wall, and i saw the killer. I told everyone to run inside. All of a sudden, we were in the garage. Hiding. After a while we decided to get new clothes and blankets because it was getting cold. We also used the bathroom. Then i went out of the garage... even though the others told me not to. I saw a black car in the front of the driveway and another on the side of the road near the woods. I checked in the first car, and saw the president, dead, and i checked in the 2nd and i saw my mother and my friends mom dead. and then as i was running back, crying, i saw the killer. i ran straight into the garage. hid near the back with everyone else and waited. Then after a while we all decided to go out.... and find help. but as we were opening the garage door. I woke up. What could this dream mean? If you want to read a really extended summary of the story that i had written earlier... its really detailed actually and i wrote things more the way they happened. Resolved Question: How do you stop excessive barking (I have a one year old Pomeranian)?

i need some advice about excessive barking! (oh, and if you don't feel like reading my ridiculously long novel, that's okay! but if you can spare a few minutes, thank you so much!) I have a pomeranian about one year and one month old. She's very energetic and usually listens pretty well (pretty well meaning she will come when called IF there are no other distractions, and she will sit when I say "sit."). Lately, she's been barking excessively when we let her outside into the backyard. She usually stays in the kitchen (there are barriers so she does not roam the entire house) during the day and night, but when I come home as well as every few hours, I let her outside to run around and go to the bathroom (though she is potty trained too). One of our neighbors has two black labs, and they often bark as well. So when I let my dog outside, the FIRST thing she does EVERY TIME is run to the side closest to my neighbor's dogs and starts barking her head off. Sometimes, my neighbor's dogs are not even barking, but my dog hears the jingling of their dog tags, and goes crazy. Even more often, there is really nothing to be barking at. Occasionally there is an airplane or a next-door backyard BBQ, but it's not like these things extremely bother her because she does not bark EVERY time an airplanes flies by nor EVERY time the neighbor is having a BBQ. Her barking has become so senseless to my family and I that we have tried many ways to stop it. First, we just tried calling her name and diverting her attention away from whatever she is barking at by offering treats and food. But, it doesn't work. When she's barking, she's so crazy that she doesn't care about anything else that is going on. Not even food! I bet if something were to fall from the sky and hit her, she would continue barking. Next, we tried the spray bottle method. I must say, it is pretty useless. When she would bark (or would be about to bark), I would spray her. The first few times, it worked. But soon, she didn't care about getting sprayed with water anymore. We also tried tying her with a harness and leash to a post in the backyard, extending the leash long enough so she could go on the grass to do her duty, but not long enough for her to run to the sides of the backyard (where she goes to bark, looking up). BUT, she still barked nonstop. Our most recent attempt went so far as ordering a spray collar off amazon.com. When worn by a dog, it would spray the dog every time it barked (like the shock collar, just not painful...). This collar seemed to be working for a while, but then all of a sudden, it just didn't have any effect on her anymore (later, it broke, too). Now, I am trying to let her outside as little as possible, but I feel bad because dogs need to be able to run around outside. We have gotten complaints about her barking, and I'm afraid that if I let her out too often, the neighbors will complain and we will be forced to give her away. I can see that my mom is also fed up with her barking. I don't want to give her away because I love dogs and love taking care of dogs, but I really don't know what to do about her barking. Also, when she's all hyped up and barking, she gets feisty. is you pat her while she's barking, she'll growl and try to bite you. I'm thinking of going to training classes, but I've been really busy with school and activities, and I barely have time to take her for a walk every day; thus, they will be my last resort. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, did you/how did you fix it? Thanks for any help! more

Resolved Question: Question about the Coast Guard?

I am interested in joining the coast guard after I receive my four year degree, and going to OCS. I have a few question, and since it is impossible to contact a reqruiter here in TN I hope someone can help me. Do officers get to choose their occupation? I have a management degree and would like to do intel, comm., logistics, management, security. What is the likely hood I will get one of these occupations. I heard that the occupations that I listed above do not have to be away from home alot. Is that true? I do not want to have to be deployed for extended periods of time are there jobs I can get as an officer that I can stay state side. I am married and I do not want to put any unnecessary strain on my relationship. I really appreciate the help. I have so many more questions to ask but nobody to answer them. Thank you so much for your time. P.S. please don't say go to coastguard.com because I have completely dissected that web page. more

Resolved Question: I have a question about demand curves....which my teacher couldn't or wouldn't answer in class....help?

Basically, we were talking about demand curves and when a shift in the demand curves occurs as a result of a factor such as change in price of a complementary or substitute good, etc. We were told to represent this on a graph, such as this: http://faculty.tamu-commerce.edu/dfunderburk/231/images/graph4.jpg The thing I didn't understand was as follows: The price of the actual good itself hasn't changed, it is the change of the price of another good which has caused demand to increase (or decrease.) However, on the graph, when the demand increased, the graph clearly shows that the price has also risen, as if you extend both lines so that they hit the Y (Price) axis, one is higher than the other. Surely this is a contradiction? We know that the demand has risen, however the graph shows that price has also risen. Yet, I learned that with normal goods, when price rises, demand falls. Therefore how can both demand and price rise? I don't understand why the graphs are not drawn like this: http://s667.photobucket.com/albums/vv31/gurlywurly_2009/?action=view&current=untitled.jpg Then the price would be staying the same, however the demand would be increasing or decreasing. My teacher got very angry with me today in class, as I'm not sure he understood what I was asking and when I attempted to explain properly what I meant, he told me to 'just accept that this is the way we draw them.' I recognize that it may be a stupid question, but I am quite confused. Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read through this, I would really appreciate some help! But why would the price automatically rise with rise in demand. These are normal goods which obey the Law of Demand, therefore demand should fall as price rises and vice-versa. more

Resolved Question: Are higher unemployment rates going to be the norm for years?

According to this article from AP the unemployment rates will breech 10% and stay there for a long time, maybe past 2014. They cite reasons in the article and you van read them for yourself but could there be another reason? Consider this. What is Obama's priority one right now? Health care. Whats better way to sell health care than to have high unemployment rates for an extended period of time thus creating the "need" for Government health care. Is it possible the Obama Administration is purposely not doing anything to create jobs to sell health care? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091019/ap_on_bi_ge/us_vanishing_jobs more

Resolved Question: Is Caribbean Cruise Line A Real Cruise Line?

ok so i saw this commercial with carmen electra announcing caribbean cruise lines and apply for a free cruise. just out of curiosity I DID, turns out i won a free bahamas cruise for 2 people! all i had to pay was $118 for tax and $9 a day for the fuel! they had me go on their websit to just kind of check it out, but the website was odd, like it had NO number,NO acual itinararies, you wouldnt even be able to book a cruise! sopposable the free cruise was valid for 18 months and all we had to do was call and reserve what ever day, they were gonna reserve our spot by taking the $118 from our visa and giving us a confirmation number. when my husband was speaking to a rep. he was being a bit strong like "would you like to extend your stay in florida" and when we said "no" he said "but why not your flying all the way from california" but like rude kind of and his language was a little unproffesional like not to be racist but a bit too ghetto black man we said yes but turned out we dint have enough money on our card so it was declined. we just hung up. we called our bank and cancelled our card because we didnt know if it was a scam or even real. we have a new card now. is it real heres the website: www.caribbeancl.comi took carnival last year! carmen electra was announcing it and it was on the travel channel more

Resolved Question: Would Thomas Jefferson use these propaganda techniques being used by Zionists to control our entire country?

PMTruther came out of the CIA Handbook on Psychological Guerrilla Warfare Published on 09-17-2009 PROPAGANDA TECHNIQUEShttp://www.freerepublic.com/focus/fr/546409/posts“Propaganda Techniques” is based upon “Appendix I: PSYOP Techniques” from “Psychological Operations Field Manual No.33-1″ published by Headquarters; Department of the Army, in Washington DC, on 31 August 1979(from http://www.zoehouse.com/is/sco/proptech.html) Knowledge of propaganda techniques is necessary to improve one’s own propaganda and to uncover enemy PSYOP stratagems. Techniques, however, are not substitutes for the procedures in PSYOP planning, development, or dissemination. Techniques may be categorized as: Characteristics of the content self-evident. additional information is required to recognize the characteristics of this type of propaganda. “Name calling” and the use of slogans are techniques of this nature. Additional information required to be recognized. Additional information is required by the target or analyst for the use of this technique to be recognized. “Lying” is an example of this technique. The audience or analyst must have additional information in order to know whether a lie is being told. Evident only after extended output. “Change of pace” is an example of this technique. Neither the audience nor the analyst can know that a change of pace has taken place until various amounts of propaganda have been brought into focus.Nature of the arguments used. An argument is a reason, or a series of reasons, offered as to why the audience should behave, believe, or think in a certain manner. An argument is expressed or implied.Inferred intent of the originator. This technique refers to the effect the propagandist wishes to achieve on the target audience. “Divisive” a! nd “uni fying” propaganda fall within this technique. It might also be classified on the basis of the effect it has on an audience. SELF-EVIDENT TECHNIQUEAppeal to Authority. Appeals to authority cite prominent figures to support a position idea, argument, or course of action. Assertion. Assertions are positive statements presented as fact. They imply that what is stated is self-evident and needs no further proof. Assertions may or may not be true. Bandwagon and Inevitable Victory. Bandwagon-and-inevitable-victory appeals attempt to persuade the target audience to take a course of action “everyone else is taking.” “Join the crowd.” This technique reinforces people’s natural desire to be on the winning side. This technique is used to convince the audience that a program is an expression of an irresistible mass movement and that it is in their interest to join. “Inevitable victory” invites those not already on the bandwagon to join those already on the road to certain victory. Those already, or partially, on the bandwagon are reassured that staying aboard is the best course of action.Obtain Disapproval. This technique is used to get the audience to disapprove an action or idea by suggesting the idea is popular with groups hated, feared, or held in contempt by the target audience. Thus, if a group which supports a policy is led to believe that undesirable, subversive, or contemptible people also support it, the members of the group might decide to change their position. Glittering Generalities. Glittering generalities are intensely emotionally appealing words so closely associated with highly valued concepts and beliefs that they carry conviction without supporting information or reason. They appeal to such emotions as love of country, home; desire for peace, freedom, glory, honor, etc. They ask for approval without examination of the reason. Though the words and phrases are vague and suggest different things to different people, their connotation ! is alway s favorable: “The concepts and programs of the propagandist are always good, desirable, virtuous.” Generalities may gain or lose effectiveness with changes in conditions. They must, therefore, be responsive to current conditions. Phrases which called up pleasant associations at one time may evoke unpleasant or unfavorable connotations at another, particularly if their frame of reference has been altered. Vagueness. Generalities are deliberately vague so that the audience may supply its own interpretations. The intention is to move the audience by use of undefined phrases, without analyzing their validity or attempting to determine their reasonableness or application. Rationalization. Individuals or groups may use favorable generalities to rationalize questionable acts or beliefs. Vague and pleasant phrases are often used to justify such actions or beliefs.Simplification. Favorable generalities are used to provide simple answers to complex social, political, economic, or military problems. Transfer. This is a technique of projecting positive or negative qualities (praise or blame) of a person, entity, object, or value (an individual, group, organization, nation, patriotism, etc.) to another in order to make th more

Resolved Question: Why is the USA the only advanced nation that has a private, for-profit, primary health insurance industry?

(“Primary” excludes companies that offer only “extended” health coverage to clients who wish to be insured against costs not covered by the primary insurer. Except for a deductible amount, these for-profit companies must pay claims validated by the primary insurer.) The answer is simple: the other nations understand that a private, for-profit, primary health insurance (PFPPHI) company has an inherent conflict of interest that leads inevitably to corruption: it can increase its profit merely by denying a valid claim. If it can be done, it will be done; only a naïve fool would believe otherwise. There may indeed be good reasons for any health insurance system to deny claims. A larger dividend is not one of them. PFPPHI insurance is fundamentally incompatible with fair and compassionate health care insurance. The customer of a PFPPHI company gets a double whammy. Part of her premium is used to process a denial of her claim. She pays the premium to avoid the bill and then gets stuck with it anyway – or stays sick. Only conservative Americans vote to be scammed and then protest vehemently when liberals try to help them. And the health outcomes of our PFPPHI system are inferior to the systems of other advanced nations whose per capita costs are much less than ours. (See: http://www.forbes.com/2009/09/09/america-versus-oecd-reform-opinions-contributors-health-care.html?partner=opinions_newsletter). The other nations also believe that it is immoral to earn a profit by denying succor to the sick. It contradicts the teachings of all of the major religions. Why do so many of our most fervent Christians worship Mammon, the free market deity, and boast that they are not their brother’s keepers? To those who praise the USA system, why don't you have the courage to follow the link above? Afraid of the truth?answer man: Don't believe the rumors. Check out the link above. The more you praise the supreiority of our health insurance system, the more I am convinced that you haven't traveled abroad without a tour bus. more
