I am moving to either Tallahassee or Tampa, FL. around the end of summer and will be looking for short-term housing while I look for employment and later a permanent rental. I know about the "Extended Stay" hotel chains, but was wondering if anyone knows about any less expensive alternatives. Most Extended Stay hotels run about $1200 a month. All I really need is a bedroom with a kitchen and bath, but I am not interested in renting a room in a private house (I need my privacy). Does anyone know of a hotel/motel chain (in a reasonably safe neighborhood) in either of these cities that offers rooms with kitchenettes and Internet access (for job hunting, of course) for reasonable weekly or monthly rates? more

Resolved Question: Hotels in Castlemaine, VIC Australia (near Melbourne)?

I'm an American who will be staying in Castlemaine for three weeks in July this year. I'm traveling there for work with three colleagues and we are trying to find a nice place to stay. I know there are many B&B's and motels in this area, but we need something that will be comfortable by American standards for an extended stay. We normally stay at Hilton hotels or similar. Right now we are planning on staying at the Empyre Hotel unless someone can suggest something better. We don't mind driving up to 45 minutes away for a nice place. If you live in this area or have ever stayed in Castlemaine or at the Empyre hotel, I'd love your help. I realize this is not a good time to be asking this with the tragic bushfires that happening. I hope that everyone and their families stay safe.There are no Hilton Hotels or we would be staying there! Melbourne is a 2 hr drive from Castlemaine and this is not a feasible commute for us. more

I'm interested in taking an extended (months long) trip around the US without returning home until the end. Not interested in a motor home- been there and done that- but want to bring a large quantity of clothes of all types, shorts, suits, etc. Daily travel will be generally short, less than 100 miles. Will usually stay in hotels/motels but also want to bring a camp stove, cooler, tent and related gear. There will be two people traveling. My fiancee is being transported from Port Huron Hospital, Port Huron, MI to William Beaumont Hospital, In Royal Oak, Michigan for emergency surgery, from injuries from a chemical explosion. The housing offered by the hospital is full. (CNN) -- A Nevada man who reportedly poisoned himself with ricin in his Las Vegas motel room pleaded guilty Monday to possession of a biological toxin, prosecutors said. Roger Bergendorff, 57, who was hospitalized for two months with suspected ricin poisoning, also pleaded guilty to possession of unregistered firearms. Ricin is a toxic byproduct of processing castor beans for oil and is capable of killing body cells. "Used improperly, ricin can be a very dangerous and deadly weapon," said U.S. Attorney Greg Brower in Nevada. "Fortunately, in this case, the ricin is not believed to have caused any harm to the public." Bergendorff, who was living at the Extended Stay America Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, knowingly possessed ricin in February for an "unjustified purpose," according to court documents. At the time, Bergendorff also possessed a .22 caliber pistol with an unregistered silencer attached, as well as a second unregistered silencer. Neither of the silencers were registered to Bergendorff, authorities said. Bergendorff was hospitalized on February 14 complaining of breathing difficulties. Two weeks later, his cousin, Thomas Tholen, 54, of Riverton, Utah, discovered the toxin when he went to recover Bergendorff's belongings from his hotel room. Authorities also said a search of the room found guns, the book "Anarchist's Cookbook," a collection of instructions on poisons and other dangerous recipes and castor beans, syringes and beakers. Bergendorff previously lived in Tholen's home. After the discovery of the ricin, the FBI searched the home as well as storage units Bergendorff used in Utah. Authorities said FBI agents searching the storage units found castor beans, chemicals used in the production of ricin, a respirator, filters, laboratory glassware, syringes and a notebook on ricin production. Tholen has pleaded not guilty to charges he knew his cousin was producing ricin and failed to report it to federal authorities. Bergendorff is scheduled to be sentenced November 3. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 on each count. Prosecutors have recommended a sentence of 37 months in prison. more

I am interested in opening a small hotel in Southwest Austin. With the amount of growth in Circle-C and surrounding areas it always startled me that the only hotels in business are the La Quinta and Extended Stay America near MOPAC and 290, the new Holiday Inn Express in Sunset Valley and the old Texas Motel. With the hundreds of residence in Circle-C, plus Freescale and now AMD moving in, it seems like accomidations are a massive shortage. I would like to capitalize on this, does anyone know what it takes in terms of required capital, seeking approval from the county,etc. I am thinking 290 West in Hayse county or closer in to the "Y" in Oak Hill. more

Okay so my family needs to visit several awesome universities/colleges in the Great state of Texas to help my daughter decide where to go to college. I will need to visit Austin, San Antonio, Waco, College Station, Houston, Dallas & Ft.Worth. I have just about decided to stay in an extended stay hotel probably in Austin. I want to stay somewhere inexpensive ( 50 to 75 per night max for 5 days ) but somewhere I don't have to worry about my vehicle being safe, etc. I understand to avoid east Austin - it seems like Round Rock is an Austin Suburb and very safe? Resolved Question: Extended-Stay Hotels - Good For Community or Good For Vagrants?

I recently received a letter from our city planning comission, informing me that an older motel hopes to be torn down and a four story hotel will be built in it's place. Since I'm in the community, I have to give an "in favor" or "not in favor" vote. I have found out that the hotel is to be a Staybridge Extended Stay Hotel. (We live in a small city; 30 minutes from Notre Dame University). My question is that I'm wondering if extended stay hotels are beneficial to our community or perhaps could it become a blight for us with drug sales and prostitution? Mind you, we have already had trouble with the motel that's there now with that type of activity and I would prefer it not to continue. Yet, I haven't been able to find out any information about the good and bad on extended stay hotels. ThanksThanks for everyone's response so far. Gertie - Not so, I'm sure if a Hilton was being built in that location I wouldn't have to worry about seeing call girls knocking on every motel door nor have the vagrants stumble into my yard drunk or high. more

I will soon need a place to stay, temporarily, and with no lease longer than a month. I know that there are places that specialize in short term stays but I have only found a few that are reasonable. The "In Town Suites" offer weekly stays, at $215 a week, but I was wondering if there were other hotels or motels that have similar offers just to keep rooms rented. The "In Town Suites" are not a bad deal, including internet and full furnishings, but I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a less expensive offer...maybe somewhere around $175 a week. more

We have visited several mobile home parks and they all say that they do not rent trailers; however, they all all offer to sell us one. i want to move to a larger city for better paying jobs. i used to live in orlando, want to return. but i have 11 cats now (i'm a sucker for strays). i love them and can't give them up but i can't afford to board them. no-one i know is willing to keep them for a while, even caged. how do i move with them? i don't have much money. i'll need to probably rent an extended-stay hotel room while job hunting and house hunting for a pet friendly home. anybody got ideas what to do with the cats while i'm in transition? it would be really hard to hide them all in a motel room and they'd drive me crazy meowing.hi, to all who are concerned about the cats: all are spayed/neutered and vaccinated. we live on a dead end road in the woods and everyone gets along except for 1 cranky girl cat. i put ads in the paper when a new one shows up to find any previous owner and the shelters are all full. it is feasible to have multiple cats but yes there needs to be sufficient room and adequate care provided. they are all well. I am moving to Las Vegas on June 22, and need to find a safe, clean, and relatively cheap extended stay (with kitchen or kitchenette) to stay in until I find a permenant apartment. I am staying at various big hotels on the strip for two months (gotta love comps), but after that I need to find an extended stay motel. I don't want to sign a lease until I am sure I want to stay there. Many people have told me to stay away from the motels by the stip due to crime and drugs. Any suggestions? Hi, Im moving to San Jose in about a week and looking for a decent hotel or extended stay situation. Where I am now (Georgia) we have weekly hotel rooms from $139.99 to $350. depending on what you want. I cannot afford anything over $200. per week, any suggestions? I'm sure some will say you get what you pay for, but I am only having to stay for 1 month in one of these so I really dont care much if it is a roach motel. I want something between $140 and $180 per week if possible.
