Extended Stay Hotels Houston Questions asked

Resolved Question: What do you think Obama ordering art classes, bingo, and fresh veggies for detained illegals?

The Houston Chronicle has reported the details of an internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement email, that though seem laughable, have been confirmed by an ICE official. The email lists changes which have been ordered at several immigration detainment centers…changes that will make the facilities seem more like extended-stay hotels than jails. Beth Gibson, ICE's senior counselor to Assistant Secretary John Morton confirmed the changes, and reports that much of the new policy will be implemented within the next 30 days at detainment centers from California to New Jersey. Gibson defended the changes, saying: “When people come to our custody, we're detaining them to effect their removal. It's about deportation. It's not about punishing people for a crime they committed.” The changes include: -hanging plants -free movement for detainees -longer visiting hours -replacing guards with “unit managers” -allowing detainees to wear their own clothing -email access -free phone service -dance classes -movie nights -art classes -cooking classes -tutoring and computer training -self-serve beverage stations -fresh vegetable bars In addition to the new amenities, ICE also plans to reduce or even eliminate pat-down searches, which raises particular concern for Tre Rebstock, president for Local 3332, the ICE union in Houston. Rebstock told the Houston Chronicle: “Our biggest concern is that someone is going to get hurt.” Rebstock continued: “My grandparents would have loved to have bingo night and a dance class at the retirement home they were in when they passed away, but that was something we would have had to pay for. And yet these guys are getting it on the taxpayers' dime.” http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-35821-Immigration-Reform-Examiner~y2010m6d10-Obama-ordering-art-classes-bingo-and-fresh-veggies-for-detained-illegal-aliens more

Resolved Question: What chances do my husband have on getting custody of our son?

We are going through a divorce and we live in Houston,TX but since this marriage is not working and I don't have family here I will be moving back with family in Birmingham,AL..I have a full time job and I can transfer, I have a town home in Birmingham, and family support. My husband have a contract job and he is always out of town and he has no one in Houston that is family that would look after him and oh wait he has a sister but she work full time and she loves to work..so that's a no. I'm not leaving behind my only child because of his selfish reasons he is 9 months and my son needs me, I'm still breastfeeding so---no shot for him. He is barely home anyway so technically I am a single mom already, even now he is not around, and he wasn't around during the childbirth, so what good will it do him to get full custody when his job is not stable and he claim that when we divorce he will move into a extended stay hotel..What the hell...I don't want my son being in no damn hotel.Oh gosh I just want to move on with my life away from him..I will not deny his rights to his son, He can visit his son anytime in Birmingham, AL.. So readers...Do he have a shot or what? more

Resolved Question: Help - I need to stay in Central Texas for 1 week!?

Okay so my family needs to visit several awesome universities/colleges in the Great state of Texas to help my daughter decide where to go to college. I will need to visit Austin, San Antonio, Waco, College Station, Houston, Dallas & Ft.Worth. I have just about decided to stay in an extended stay hotel probably in Austin. I want to stay somewhere inexpensive ( 50 to 75 per night max for 5 days ) but somewhere I don't have to worry about my vehicle being safe, etc. I understand to avoid east Austin - it seems like Round Rock is an Austin Suburb and very safe? Can anybody offer any suggestions? I have already looked at extended stay motel websites - but obviously they don't answer the questions I really need answered. If there is somewhere else you would recommend - please advise. Any help would be highly appreciated! more

Resolved Question: Furnished Suites in Houston, TX?

Anybody knows of any furnished suites/apartments in Houston, TX? I need to stay there for a month or so, but I am looking for something cheaper than, say, Residence Inn, Extended Stay America, Oakwood, Hawthorn Suites, AmeriSuites, Candlewood Suites, etc. I am looking for something along the lines of "Budget Suites of America" [www.budgetsuites.com] where they have a weekly rate of about $199.00 in Dallas and San Antonio, TX. Any Texas natives know of anything like that? Something that isn't a big, expensive hotel chain? Preferably not infested with roaches/rodents or in a rough neighborhood... And yes, I'm checking Craigslist every day. Thanks!! more
