Hi, me and my boyfriend were going to take a weekend (November 6-9/2009) and go somewhere fairly close in the states... New York City, Boston... something but were not sure where. We don't want to be driving for 24 hours but don't mind an extended drive. We were planning on leaving friday morning and staying till Monday morning. Any ideas on where to go? New York vs Boston? I think there would be more to do in New York City then Boston but then again we only have two days really so we don't need a lot. I'm 20 so i can't drink in the states either so that rules out clubbing kind of. Hes big into sports so he was thinking some sort of sports event but really he said its up to me and we can do what i want. Anyway, any thoughts? Better places to go? Let me know! moreResolved Question: How's my story so far? [Not long!]?
It's about a girl who lives in New York City, she's so tired of it! Then, when her uncle down in NC dies, they go to his funeral, and the girl decides she wants to stay in North Carolina, on her grandpas ranch. Here's what I have so far: My eyes shot open because I knew what today was. Today was the first day of autumn! I immediately propped myself up and stretched my arms, visualizing extending my arms up to the sky. I looked out the window just beside my bed. I saw the smoke coming up from all the New York waste lines, I was immediately saddened. Luckily, I looked to the left of my window, opposite from the hideous smoke, and saw a lady walking her dog. Oh how I wished I had a dog of my own the walk up and down the side of the sidewalk with me. If only mother would let me. I had dreamed of a black and brown dachshund, which would sure catch my fancy. But mom always said dogs are nasty, smelly and disgusting. I had always begged to differ, but mother never cares about anyone’s opinion but her own. Perhaps if we weren’t stuck in such a tiny apartment, things would be different. I could probably have 5 dogs! Oh how I hated New York. No trees to watch change into shades of orange and red, no pumpkin patches or jack-o-lanterns to carve, no going to cut down your own Christmas tree. It was obvious, the holiday season is just dead in New York. The smell of my mom’s burnt breakfast sauntered into my nostrils, and I immediately knew one thing, mom had tried to cook. Be nice! I JUST started 6th grade last week, literally. So I'm a young writer!!!Oh yeah I wrote this in about 10-12 minutes, if that. I know it needs lots of editing.Yeah when she gets to her grandpas ranch she's going to love it, and end up staying there, while she has to convince her mom. And I'm trying to come up with lots of little problem-etts :). She was meant to be bratty and stuff like that in the beginning, and as a character she changes, I wanted people to be able to see how much she changed and progressed through the story. moreResolved Question: Cheap Apartments close to New York Film Academy?

By MARIA GALLUCCI, Associated Press Writer Maria Gallucci, Associated Press Writer – Fri Nov 21, 6:15 pm ET MEXICO CITY – Hiroshi Nohara is on a layover at the Mexico City airport. It has lasted almost three months, and he has no plans to leave. For reasons he can't explain, the Japanese man has been in Terminal 1 of the Benito Juarez International Airport since Sept. 2, surviving off donations from fast-food restaurants and passengers and sleeping in a chair. At first, he frightened passengers, and airport authorities asked the Japanese Embassy to investigate why the foul-smelling man refused to leave. Now, he's somewhat of a celebrity, capturing Mexico's collective imagination with nearly daily television news reports on his life at the food court. Tourists stop to pose with him for photographs or get an autograph. The Tokyo native flew into Mexico with a tourist visa and a return ticket home, but he never left the airport. In an interview Thursday alongside the airport McDonald's, he said he had no motive for his extended stay and doesn't know how much longer he'll remain. "I don't understand why I'm here," he said through a visiting interpreter originally hired by a television station. "I don't have a reason." The embassy can't force him to leave, and since Nohara's visa is valid all Mexican officials can do it wait for it to expire in early March. During his stay, Nohara's wiry goatee has grown into a scraggly mass. His red-tinted hair is speckled with dust and dandruff, and his cream-colored jacket and fleece blanket are dingy with overuse. He smells like he hasn't had a shower in months. "He's a calm person, a nice man," said Silvia Navarrete del Toro, an airport janitor. "He just sits here and eats all day." Various stalls in the food court give Nohara free snacks and drinks, sometimes even throwing in hats or coffee mugs with store logos to get free publicity during his frequent television appearances. Strangers often buy him pastries or hamburgers; he prefers the latter. He sits with the interpreter, talking and laughing for hours, at a small table covered with cups of cold coffee, packets of ketchup and sandwiches wrapped in foil. Stroking his facial hair, Nohara said the 2004 film "The Terminal," starring Tom Hanks as an Eastern European man stuck in a New York City airport, was not his inspiration. But he acknowledged the similarities. "My life," he joked, "is 'The Terminal 2.'" http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20081121/ap_tr_ge/lt_travel_brief_mexico_living_at_airportI'm sure that Mr. Hiroshi Nohara is a pretty cool guy and all, but I doubt if this would fly (no pun intended) here in the United States. TSA would be all over this guy. ( ^ _ ^ ) Mr. Hiroshi Nohara is probably a wealthy man and is conducting an experiment. He's taking particular notice of how slack Airport Security is. Or maybe he's just truly enjoys living in an airport and living from "hand to mouth." My advice? Investigate this guy and make him go home! : )Should have read "Maybe he truly enjoys." Typo. :)Actually his Visa is valid until early March of this year. So he can't be forced to leave. As long as he's not a spy or a terrorist. : ) moreResolved Question: Should my family move to raleigh, nc?

My partner and I will be visiting NYC for the first time this weekend. We plan to drive up to the city and spend a long weekend there. We are worried about driving/parking inside the city, so we'd like to find a safe area outside Manhattan and subway into the city. We just aren't sure about how the subways work in NYC. Do the subways extend outside the city? How far out? Does anyone have a specific area you could recommend for us to stay in? Thanks for any help you can give us. moreResolved Question: can a tenant go to court and extend the time?

Option 5: A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you. The fiery red numbers, glaring off my alarm clock, wake me at the ungodly hour of four a.m.; five hours of sleep can barely sustain my lethargic body in my efforts to get out of bed. The chill of early morning resonates throughout my body as I stumble across my bedroom in search of the light switch. The combination of the burst of light and the resistance of my brain to function at such an hour makes me want to jump back into my warm cocoon, but that is not an option, because on this unusually chilly July morning, my family is preparing to leave on a month long sojourn to Syria. Since their first departure from Syria my parents have brought myself and my three older siblings back to Damascus with them to spend July with our gargantuan extended family, making a stop in various countries on the way back. After an eight-hour flight to Europe we rush to make our second connecting flight to Damascus and after another four hours it is music to my ears to hear the barely audible announcement that we are approaching Damascus. At this point I'm excited to return my seat to its upright position and to fasten my seatbelt because our arduous flight is about to conclude, and my crash course in Arab culture 101 commences. Trying to acclimate to constantly speaking Arabic, the jet lag, and the concept that there is not one McDonalds in all of Syria, is made easier by the presence of my cousins. Many of them are about the same age as me, and so throughout the month of July we are constantly together. Bonding with my cousins as a child was easy enough, after all there isn't much difference between coloring books and Barbie's. As we grew older, I noticed we had much more in common than the toys we used to share, but I also noticed we were the products of very different societies. As a young child my tiny attention span was consumed with impromptu soccer games in my grandmothers home. However as an older child there was an unmistakable difference in the political climate between the two countries. Things we took for granted in the U.S., such as routinely poking fun at the president on shows like Saturday Night Live, were verboten in Syria. I also became more interested in the history of the city that my parents had spent their childhood in. I began to appreciate the beautiful old mosques, Moorish side streets, and charming old neighborhoods. I realized that to someone that may not have visited Syria before the call the prayer five times a day and street vendors selling fresh cactus and figs on the side of the road would appear foreign, but in reality what was happening there; the everyday interactions between people were no different than the ones going on around us in New York. Instead of the call the prayer there are church bells, and instead of fresh cactus and figs, hotdogs and hot pretzels are sold. I realized that I was lucky to be bi-cultural, which translated into a love of traveling and observing other cultures and learning to decipher what appeared "weird". After weeks of sleeping in late, eating mass amounts of grilled meat, and staying up until three a.m. just drinking tea and hanging out with my family, it is somewhat of a culture shock going to Europe. As a child my father wasn't afforded the opportunity to travel, in fact, the first time he left Syria was to attend medical school in Lebanon. Once he arrived in America to establish a new life with my amazing mother, he promised himself that he would show his kids the world. My father kept his promise, and my family has had the opportunity to relate to the culture, history, and food of countries that we have been so blessed to be able to explore over the years. Each country I have traveled instilled in me a unique perspective of how dissimilar cultures can be, but at the same time how every society can be linked to another with remarkable similarities. This perspective would bring diversity to any college community. moreResolved Question: who am i I was born in a quaint historic village located approximately 20 miles north of New York City?
I was born in a quaint historic village located approximately 20 miles north of New York City to a Jewish-American family. One of my favorite bands is Green Day and computer programming has been part of my life since I was in 6th grade. While enrolled on a psychology major and taking a bunch of computer science courses at one of America’s top Universities, I worked alongside a classmate to create a way to help college friends stay connected. Running this project asa hobby, I never thought that this would be the starting point of my own business venture. I have taken an extended leave from college and nowadays - at only 23 years of age - I am the owner and creator of a worldwide social phenomenon which has attained over 20 million registered users in less than four years and is valued well into the billions of dollars. In a recent public appearance, I stated that my success lies in being young and technical; so many might find me arrogant. Analysts think I could be the richest man under 25 in the USA, with a net worth estimated at $1.5 billion. But more importantly, the company I command is the now most buzzed-about company in Silicon Valley and I am constantly compared to visionaries like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. moreResolved Question: Would you award me a star if you like these jokes?
Two kids are in Sunday School. A girl who keeps falling asleep sits next to a boy with his pen out. The teacher asks, "Who created heaven and earth?" The boy pokes the girl in the side with his pen. "God almighty!" yells the girl. "Very good!" says the teacher. The girl starts to snooze off again. The teacher asks, "Who died for our sins?" The boy pokes her with his pen again. "Jesus Christ!" yelled the girl. "Very good." The girl goes off to sleep again. The teacher asks, "What did Eve say to Adam after having their 26th kid?" The boy pokes her with the pen again. The girl yells, "If you put that thing into me one more time, I swear I'll break it in half!" The teacher fainted. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- There once was a husband and wife who were unable to have children. After consulting everyone who would listen to their problem, they were still unsatisfied. Finally, they consulted their family priest. "My children," the priest began, "The Lord will listen to your prayers, and I am sure that you will be blessed with children shortly. In fact, I am planning an extended stay in Rome, and while I'm visiting the Vatican, I will light a candle for you." "Thank you, Father, thank you!" said the couple. Before leaving, the priest turned and said, "I am sure everything will work out just fine for you. My stay in Rome will be for quite some time--15 years. But when I return, I will be sure to pay you a visit." And so, 15 years came and went, and the priest returned to the States. While resting on his porch one mid-summer morning, he remembered the promise of paying a visit that he had made 15 years ago. So he made his way to their home, and upon arriving at the residence of the couple who'd sought his council years earlier, he rang the doorbell. Sounds of crying and screaming children filled the air! Overjoyed by the thought that their prayers had been answered, he entered the house. More than a DOZEN children filled the house from top to bottom! In the midst of all the chaos, stood the wife. "My dear," the priest said, "your prayers have been answered! And where is your husband? I wish to congratulate him too on your miracle!" "He just left for Rome," she said in a very desperate tone. "Rome? Why did he go to Rome?" asked the priest. "To blow out that candle you lit!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A blonde walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. She says she's going to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so the blonde hands over the keys to a new Rolls Royce. The car is parked on the street in front of the bank, she has the title and everything checks out. The bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the blonde for using a $250,000 Rolls as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then proceeds to drive the Rolls into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the blonde returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, "Miss, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?" The blonde replies....."Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- moreResolved Question: Please advice me how to extend my drug testing time at TLC & exempt me from paying $200 as penalty.?
