Resolved Question: I Can't Open a Folder on My external Hard Drive?

I have a 1TB external hard drive. I usually use it in Florida, but for the summer I'm in GA and using it on an different computer. One of my folders in the hard drive, a picture folder, won't open. When I try to open it, I get a notice that says "you need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" Unless I'm much mistaken, formatting the drive will delete everything on it. I'm not prepared to lose the 950+ GBs of data (documents, music [FLAC files, mostly... I hate MP3], pictures, and so on) on this hard drive (and yes, I will soon be purchasing a couple new external hard drives, one as a back-up to this one). Even when I right-click on the folder and hit "explore", it gives me the same message. When I check properties of the the folder, it notes that the folder is "read-only". When I try to change this, I get a message that says: ------------------------------------ An error occurred applying attributes to the file G:\Pictures (33.0 GB\creatomatic.jpg Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). ------------------------------------ (and yes, I know what creatomatic.jpg is) So I hit "ignore", and it says it again for another one of the pictures. So I hit "ignore all" and the computer freezes. I wanted to try opening the folder with the command prompt, but I have no idea how to use that with the C: drive, let alone trying to get it to open a different drive (like G:). So, of course, I don't even know if it will help. And worse: when I copy the folder or try to move it, the dialog box just goes away without doing anything. Please help. I simply cannot lose this folder, and at the moment I do not have the storage capacity to back-up this drive in order to "reformat" it. I will, but not sooner then I need to get into this folder. Save me...@elliNo, I didn't dismount the hard drive. I just pulled it out while the FL computer was shut down. And I won't be able to take it back to the FL computer until at least June.But I can open all the other folders and see all the other files. It's just this folder and this 33 GBs of data I can't access. more

Voting Question: Tips for long car ride with 9 1/2 month old?

I asked this question last night, and got a couple good ideas. But, want to ask again for the "morning crew" and see if anyone else has any ideas: I am leaving at 3:30AM to drive to Florida to see my family. Without baby, it takes about 7 hours. I am "hoping" that he sleeps until about 7AM. When he wakes up, we plan on stopping at a rest area to let him crawl around, play and eat breakfast. We'll probably hang out there for a while. But, since he is still facing backwards, I need ideas to entertain him. And don't say a DVD player. My son will barely even pay attention to the TV at home, and I can't afford to go buy one. Anyone know of a good site to download some fun songs to put on CD or MP3 player that maybe he will enjoy? The most we drove with him so far was 3 1/2 hours when he was about 6 1/2 months old and he slept most of the way. But, when he woke up, he screamed! My husband does plan on sitting back there with him if he gets cranky. Just wondering if anyone has any "tricks" or ideas for long travel? Thanks!We have thought about leaving at his bedtime, but the only thing that worries me about that, is we will get there at 2AM and he may be ready to play! I could hope that we could put him right in the crib for the rest of the morning, but its a 50/50 chance, I think. I'm just bored so i decided to start writing... It's called (stuck) With Him. I'm only in 6th grade so it kind of sucks....here it goes: Like most girls, I sought after love. More than anything, I wanted a romance like The Notebook or A Walk to Remember. More than anything, I wanted to fall for someone, and have them catch me. I wanted a prince charming. But I, Amber, had never been good enough for any guy I ever showed interest in. Through school, the crushes I had were never returned, except for once. The beginning of my first year of middle school, I met someone who made my soul soar, and my heart pound. At that time, I had no clue what I was getting myself into. But, one thing I knew was for sure. I would never regret the choice I had made, the choice to be with him. It felt as if the world was blocked out from me as the song “Hey There Delilah” blasted on my MP3. I most likely look like an idiot with purple skinny jeans and a black sweat shirt on while it’s a searing 85 degrees out. I sat quietly at the bus stop though. Unlike most of the kids chatting around me, I was just a 7th grade girl starting middle school. 9th graders towered over me and cracked jokes about the new kid. My blue eyes would glare every now and then but I wouldn’t want to cause trouble before I even got on the bus. Everything was so different without Christy-my best friend who had to move because of her dad’s unfair job. I remembered her big hazel eyes and dark hair. She was always much more shy and we told each other everything…sometimes we even called each other sisters. I looked around and everyone (but me) was exited for the first day of school. I wish summer would last forever and I would never have to face the thought that I would never get a boyfriend and Christy moved away. It’s not like I’m not brave enough to ask anyone to be my boyfriend. Trust me, I’ve tried. Suddenly, there was a loud cheering and I couldn’t tell if it was from my MP3 or the real world until I realized a long yellow bus was driving slowly toward our small neighborhood located in Cape Coral, Florida. I sighed with annoyance to myself, released the ear phones from my head and tucked them into my backpack. I got up ignoring a kid whispering about pushing me in front of the bus. I never got why 7th graders were picked on so much. I know I was acting like some skater girl who doesn’t care about anyone, but it was the only thing I could do to keep myself feeling safe and to push tears away. I knew the real reason why I was so depressed. Not because of Christy…because of the accident. Before I could shed another thought I was walking onto a noisy bus where students held laptops and laughed hysterically at the most ignorant things. I rolled my eyes and sat down in one of the back seats. I almost jumped up and screamed when I saw a shaggy haired blonde boy sitting beside me. He turned, and the freckles across his nose seemed to draw attention to his amazing aqua eyes which reminded me of the ocean. His hair was a shade or two lighter than mine and curved to the middle of his neck. “Hey, let me guess. You’re new too?” his voice was crisp and scratchy sounding. And for the first time since the accident, I smiled. He smiled back and I knew I had a friend. The happiness only lasted a second though. “I can move if you, um, want me too,” I choked out. The truth was, I wanted to stay. I wanted to sit there forever and talk to an actual person besides what’s left of my family. The corners of his lips turned down and he frowned. He didn’t seem to want to answer my question because his response was that simple. “I’m Drake. Do you have a name or am I just bothering you?” I almost felt like smacking the boy when his freckled face melted my heart. “It’s Amber,” I smirked. The bus jerked forward and I realized I had gotten a 60 year old man as a bus driver. our youth group is going to sulpher (only 2 1/2 hours away) "not so bad" you may think. But think again. Friday we went to a hockey game that was only an hour away and it drove me crazy because these 2 prepy chicks kept talking about strip clubs and hookers. and the guys kept wrestling with each other. plus it was crouded in the van. Bro.Jake was SUPOSED to get to licence to drive the bus, but he didnt pass the driving test. now we have to cram into a church van. Anyway this friday is the youth rally trip and i'll go crazy. my cousin is coming with me so i'll have someone normal...well almost normal (lol) to talk to. Resolved Question: Am I a bad person for taking my wife's cat and tossing it out down the road?

Let the bleeding heart people start flaming me, but here's the story. My pregnant wife of 1 year has had this cat, and it has seriously been a menace to me. We got a house together, and she brought this cat who has constantly peed on all of my belongings. Furniture, rugs, and he even goes on my side of the closet and pees on my clothes. About 6 months ago I told my wife HE HAS GOT TO GO. She agreed (since i'm sure she's tired of washing the pee of of stuff), but she didn't want to get rid of him to just anyone. She put out face book bulletins, but never really made the initiative. I took it upon myself and tried calling all of the "No Kill' shelters, but alas, they were over capacity. I tried telling her time, and time again to just put an add on Craigslist, etc, but she didn't want to give it away to someone she didn't know. She agreed that it was a huge annoyance... especially now that (at the time) she was 12 weeks pregant... (I dont want my baby crawling in cat pee!) Finally the straw that broke the camal's back. Last month on our 1 year anniversary we took a trip to Lake Tahoe. Everything was great until I realized the cat peed on everything in MY checked baggage. I didn't whine, or complain at all. I washed my clothes, clean out my laptop keyboard, MP3 player, and washed all of my clothes, and went on about my business. (My wife was amazed I took it so well). The night we flew back into town (Florida) I waited for her to go to sleep, and I put the cat in a pillow case and drove about 10 miles away, and dropped him off in the center of an 55+ subdivision. (I figured some old person would want it - right?) I told my wife's sister what happened to it, and she told her mom, and now I got a personal letter in the mail about how I don't have a soul for doing that to the cat. Did I do the right thing? Maybe I dont have a soul.. :(The cat WAS neutered. That was the first attempt to stop the peeing. He didn't pee on clothes on the ground, our house brand new, and spotless. He would climb up the clothes hanging in my closet and piss down on them! All of the folded laudnry and everything.FYI - My wife still doesn't know what happened. She thinks he got out and ran away. Our lives are much better now! I got rid of the stinky litter box, and we just had all of our rugs/carpets dry cleaned, and our house smells new again.Thanks for all the answers. Rhapsody says that it is outside of the US, and Amazon says that is currently available only to the 48 states, Alaska, and Hawaii... iTunes doesn't have a problem with it.
