Los Angeles Better Vision Questions asked

Voting Question: Couldn't see (everything was white light), hot & sweaty, very dizzy & faint, disoriented, sugar helped?

okay so something weird happened today (btw, i'm a 15-yr-old girl, no weird health problems, no medications, no drugs or anything) so i was walking outside (i'm on vacation in los angeles) and all of a sudden i was really hot and tired and wanted something to drink, even though i'd drank 2 whole bottles of water about an hour ago and it couldn't have been more than 75 or 80 degrees. it progressed really fast. all of a sudden my eyes couldn't focus, it was like dots of white light were filling my vision and i could barely see. i could see things that were up close as washed-out shapes, like sillhouettes, and farther than about 10 feet i couldn't see anything. i got REALLY dizzy and disoriented, i walked into a lot of people and all i could think about was getting out of the sun. i kind of stumbled into the nearest cafe but i felt SO out of it all i wanted was to curl up on the floor and go to sleep. i thought it would get better once i got out of the sun but it didn't, it was TERRIBLE...not to be overdramatic but i literally wanted to die. i just felt terrible and heavy and fuzzy and hot and i was sweating a lot and i just leaned against the counter for a while and i couldn't see anything. i don't really remember how long i was there, ten minutes maybe? i think i sat or lay on the floor at one point, there was almost no one else there. i think one guy asked me if i was okay but everything felt really far away and unimportant. finally my sister came in and sat me down and got me some ice water, she had no idea what was going on either. i drank two or three cups of ice water but it only helped a little bit. finally she got me some orange juice. i don't know how else to explain it but it was the best thing in the world. i just remember that it tasted so good and sweet and i drank like four glasses of it. after that and sitting with my head down for a while, i started to feel better. my vision cleared up a bit and i could think again but i still felt pretty crappy. i went from burning hot to freezing cold, even though it was really warm, and i felt nauseous. when i stood up or even sat up straight i felt really dizzy again so i stayed sitting for about half an hour. i was still really woozy and sensations felt weird...the orange juice tasted weird and when i touched things they felt wrong. according to my sister i was talking nonsense, apparently i said a bunch of crap about nail polish and was obsessing over paying for the orange juice, i don't really remember it, it's all kind of a blur. anyway, she called my mom and maybe 45 minutes after the whole thing started she got there. i lay down in the back of the car. when we got home i was feeling better but i was still really dizzy, i couldn't walk in a straight line and it took me about 5 minutes to get up the stairs. anyway, i got upstairs and lay down and went to sleep; i had about a billion blankets because i was freezing cold. i woke up a couple hours later and ate dinner. now (about six hours after the whole thing) i feel a lot better except still kind of weak and shaky, and i have a pounding headache and i think i might have a fever. but relative to before i feel awesome haha anyway, i have NO idea what happened, and if anyone knows please tell me! it wasn't hunger because i'd eaten a big lunch about an hour before it happened. but the thing that really stands out to me was the orange juice, that really did the trick...maybe i needed sugar? i don't know. this has only happened to me once before, it was at least 4 years ago and not NEARLY as bad. i was standing outside and all of a sudden things got bright white and i was really hot and i just started whining and saying i needed to get inside, but the SECOND i got inside it got better. what happened??!?!?!?! please tell me! thanks! more

Resolved Question: edit my personal statement PLEASE?

Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations. I would come exhausted, wanting nothing more than a cold glass of water and a nice cool shower. At the age of the twelve I no longer yearned for many material objects a kid my age would desire. A the age of twelve my innocence was extinguished by the act of work. My families financial situation enabled my father to start selling oranges door to door. This in my mind was violating city ordinances, but when I advised him of such, he responded with a very solid and cheerful “so”?. Although I was never forced to engage in my fathers attempt of entrepreneurship, I felt the need of doing so. I was no longer a simple twelve year old, to my mom I was precocious, very hard working, and someone who cared for the family’s well being. My step father and I were routinely occupied in purchasing the oranges at five in the morning at the Los Angeles Food Distribution Center. It was crucial to be at the locality no later than five, since anything later would interfere with our desire to purchase the best oranges. Selling approximately seven hundred oranges every Saturday proved to be a challenge. A challenge I had to endure for the sake of my family’s financial well being. This challenge took me over periods of embarrassment when I would come along a friends home, or when I heard from inside of a home the angry yell of someone stating “Read the no solicitor sign on the door”. I grew tired and the southern California sun was adding frustration to my embarrassment. Although, these feeling of frustration and embarrassment were expected from a pre teen, I never allowed for these feeling to take over. I was clearly aware of the hard lived situations my family had gone through, we were unable to tour Disneyland or even go out to a restaurant like many of my friends at the time bragged about. At the age of twelve my life experiences had proved to me that if I wanted anything in life, I would have to work for it and positivism would play a great role in my desire in acquiring anything I longed for. As a child I did not understand how this experience was shaping my character. Indirectly I was learning the misfortunes of my community who by not having acquired a higher education was limited in working a blue collar job. I was directly learning that my life had a better future and that although I loved my family, ultimately I did not want to inherit their lifestyle. Being aware of their hardships and burdens to try and makes end meet, motivated me to form a financially secure future. As I matured I developed myself into a capable young adult, who understood the importance of balancing studies and leadership. It was now my job to supersede the assumed future, predestined to my community. My studies and my leadership involvement around my city depicted a picture I had not been previously exposed to, a picture of success, every type of success physically, financially and emotionally. A success I yearned to make mine, by adding to my curriculum AP classes and to my resume governmental recognitions, paid internships and active leadership roles. The experience in my childhood indirectly taught me to strive for hard work and dedication. I appreciate the financial circumstances I underwent and still going through, since for they have motivated me to inspire my younger siblings to make every effort to acquire a higher education. Selling oranges has shaped my dream to crave a higher education, a career in human activism, defending a cause not yet know to me, to be involved with the public, who unfortunately have limited dreams, and most importantly a limited voice. So I can facilitate their voice to be heard, someone who like those with limited voice was predestined to a dysfunctional past, a present with no goals, and a future with no vision. Someone who worked a young age, only to figure out how adequate he truly is. more

Resolved Question: what do u think of this (continued)?

It’s Prince’s house, and for better and worse, it should remain so. I’m convinced that any outside intervention into Prince’s music or creative process would suffocate who Prince is. I’m not the least bit interested in seeing Prince record any other way, despite the fact that I may not personally like everything he does. His modus operandi is what makes him Prince and his repertoire so preciously unique. I can’t hazard to speak for Prince on this issue. I have sometimes felt he was unduly harsh towards fans. But I also recognize that his lack of cooperation actually contributes to the very interest the fans bring to the table. If he were consistently involved, I suspect some fans would soon lose interest. Prince had several influences, not the least of which was James Brown. But I’m not aware of any attempts by Prince to forge a relationship with Mr. Brown. The one time Prince attended a JB show in Minneapolis, he turned down my suggestion to hang out and meet with James after the show. Brown has said that they had a brief conversation at a show in Los Angeles, but I never confirmed that. The night Prince infamously jumped on stage with Brown in Cali, Prince left the theatre before the show ended. Prince never said so, but I got the impression that he was a little intimidated by JB. Understandable. There are other great pop writers, great pop musicians, great pop singers and great pop performers but no one combines all four elements as effortlessly and with the longevity, integrity and quality of Prince. As for how he’s perceived by others, I think he gets taken a lot more seriously than he used to but a little more humility might help his cause. I think of his earth shaking solo on the all star tribute to George Harrison during the R & R Hall of Fame banquet a year or two ago. He absolutely stunned every guitarist in the room and stole the entire evening, but his arrogant slamming of the guitar at the end was tasteless and disrespectful to the other artists on the stage with him. That kind of behavior was appealingly rebellious in his early years but now seems childish and insecure from an adult with his long list of accomplishments. I’m not familiar enough with the Prince of today to comment on his feelings. In the past he seemed to care what people thought on the surface but I sensed a fan’s unconditional loyalty was his real litmus test. I think he viewed a fan base as a measure of his impact more than anything else. Truth be told, he was never very interested in anyone’s opinions. Sometimes he might read a fan letter and personally respond. (His staff would process fan mail but give him the odd letter that was of a particular interest). Like most artists, his music was designed for his own pleasure before that of his fans. He appreciated the devotion and affection fans provided as long as it didn’t become invasive. As the supporters of various fanzines and web sites have learned, all bets were off when Prince felt privacy (or control) lines were crossed. Prince was never content with the promotion and marketing devoted to Paisley Park Records. He always felt it was inadequate and I usually agreed. But the Warners commitment was directly related to the type of records he chose to produce. As I implied last week, there’s evidence that he pretty much grew tired of the whole idea of protégé acts. Such projects were always extensions of Prince’s own visions but THE TIME, VANITY 6, SHEILA E and MADHOUSE were all credible, unique ideas built around undeniably deserving talents. However as the years passed, his protégé acts became less distinctive and their records sometimes seemed like “B level” Prince albums. Unlike Prince, some of those on stage that night actually knew George Harrison and there was a respect and integrity to the tribute. Prince’s cocky attitude during that breath-taking performance might have been “rock and roll” on its surface but struck me as needlessly disrespectful to the others on stage (and what Harrison stood for). Prince arriving on stage just before his solo and dramatically rushing off the stage afterwards was all to draw attention to himself. It should have been enough to let his guitar solo speak for him. It was the one time he should have been a team player. He hasn’t been an underdog in an awfully long time. When I suggested Prince might have been intimidated by James Brown, I was thinking in general terms. Anyone who has been in the presence of the James Brown "aura" would know what I meant. Now Prince has an aura when he walks in a room but, believe me, he's a novice compared to JB - it's like comparing a tremor to a tsunami. There was never a meeting or a conversation that JB didn't know how to control to his liking. James was just as outspoken and dogmatic as Prince can be, and he didn't suffer anyone who disagreed with him. They didn't call him Godfather for nothing. The entire time Ali sat on the edge of a chair, dumbstruck and more

Voting Question: Art Schools in Los Angeles. ?

I would like to know about good Art colleges in Los Angeles area. I have done some research and the results were nothing but schools with rushed programs and put-together educations (AI, Devry etc.) I want a real education in Graphic Design. To learn the basics, and move on to higher education. My goal is not to make money, is to get a well rounded, effective education. Any artists out there with the same interest in mind, and perhaps a suggestion? P.S: I got accepted at the Art Center College of design. I did not attend because of their astronomical prices... My vision is not limited to fancy private schools! more

Resolved Question: OMG.... Michael Jackson may be DYING?

Ian Halperin, a former award-winning investigative journalist on America's respected Rolling Stone Magazine , has said that the singer is suffering from a rare lung condition and needs to undergo an emergency transplant operation, reports the Daily Express. However, the ailing star is too weak to be rushed into surgery and may even be fighting for his life, claims the writer. According to Halperin, the 50-year-old has been diagnosed with Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, a genetic condition that can be fatal in severe cases. And he claims the singer is now so ill he can barely speak and has lost as much as 95 per cent of the vision in his left eye. Jackson was photographed in Los Angeles ten days ago visiting a doctor prior to shopping in several of his favourite stores with aides. The singer, who wore a Long Ranger style mask and Indiana Jones fedora to almost completely hide his face, was able to walk unaided, despite being seen in a wheelchair earlier this year near his home in Las Vegas. The writer added, "He has had Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency for years but it's gotten worse. He needs a lung transplant but may be too weak to go through with it. He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping. It's the bleeding that's the most problematic part. It could kill him." Although Jackson's official spokeswoman would did not comment on Halperin's claims, Jackson's older brother Jermaine seemed to confirm that the singer has serious health issues. He told America's Fox TV news, "He's not doing so well right now. This isn't a good time." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OMG....I was hoping this wasn't going to happen too soon.... I will pray to God that Michael gets through this and lives a long life for the sake of his kids. ='( more

Resolved Question: Do Californians regret that they didn't stick with Governor Gray Davis?

Gray Davis had great policies and visions for the people of California. Gray Davis was a strong advocate for cleaner air in the Los Angeles Valley area, fighting gang violence, improving rehab programs, Gray Davis paved the way for California's prosperity by 1) cleaning up oceanic pollution, 2) protecting the life sciences in education, and 3) diving for cures to cancer and diabetes through chemical elements in the oceans. Gray Davis understood that in order for Sacramento to better the great state of California, there needs to be a large tax revenue base, and only state and property taxes can make that happen. also helping California's immigrants work alongside California's bustling economy. Why did Governor Gray Davis go from getting elected to recalled???? more

Resolved Question: 2008 Hall of Fame class, who gets in and who doesn't?

NORTH AMERICAN COMMITTEE FINALISTS VICTOR BUBAS - Contributor (Finalist in 2003), the 1996 recipient of the prestigious John Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award, began a lifelong love affair with basketball in his hometown of Gary, Indiana before attending North Carolina State University where he played for, and coached alongside, Hall of Famer Everett Case. As a player, Bubas helped NC State reach the NCAA Final Four in 1950. Bubas then landed the head coaching position at Duke University in 1959 where he led the Blue Devils to three NCAA Final Fours (1963, 1964, 1966) and four ACC championships (1960, 1963, 1964, 1966). His strong work ethic and vision helped put Duke on the national map in basketball and made Bubas the second winningest coach in the 1960s behind Hall of Famer John Wooden. As the Commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference from 1976-1990, Bubas played a key role in the NCAA's adoption of the both the three-point line and the 45-second shot clock. ADRIAN DANTLEY - Player (Finalist in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007), a native of Washington, D.C., was one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. He had a stellar 15-year NBA career with seven different teams (Buffalo Braves, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Maverick and Milwaukee Bucks), the majority of the time spent with the Jazz (1979-86). At all levels, Dantley enjoyed success - as a scholastic All-America player at DeMatha Catholic High School (Md.), as a collegian at Notre Dame (1973-76), as the leading scorer (19.3 ppg) of the gold medal 1976 Olympic team and as a professional where he was Rookie of the Year in 1977. His 23,177 career points still ranks 23rd all-time in the NBA. He scored 2,223 points in three seasons (25.8) at Notre Dame, ranks second in Irish career scoring and was a unanimous First Team All-America list in 1975 and 1976. In all but four seasons as a professional, Dantley averaged 20 points or better, including topping the 30-point mark four straight years (1981-84). The six-time NBA All-Star (1980-82, 1984-86) was named NBA Comeback Player of the Year in 1984, the year he led the league in scoring (30.6). WILLIAM (Bill) DAVIDSON - Contributor (Finalist in 2007), 85, is a lifelong Michigan resident born in Detroit, where he has created both NBA and WNBA dynasties. He led the Golden State Warriors to a 4-2 game upset of the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 2007 NBA Playoffs, the first time a #8 seed defeated a #1 seed in a seven-game series. In 1996, Nelson was named to the NBA's Ten Best Coaches of All-Time list and has served his country as the head coach of the 1994 U.S. men's national team that won the gold medal at the World Championships.
