Resolved Question: I am looking for a Los Angeles based Moving and Storage Company?
moreVoting Question: What action can neighbors take to prevent guy who owns 40+ vehicles from parking them in neighborhood?
Yes, that's not a typo-this guy owns more than 40 vehicles. A classic case of auto-hoarding! He parks his cars on the surrounding streets and leaves them there for days, even months. The street that runs next to his home has approx. 20 of his cars parked on both sides-no one else can park there. He then cruises other neighborhoods (we live in a county area of Los Angeles, so don't have the luxury of city codes, overnight parking restrictions, etc., to help us out), looking for vacant homes so he can park his cars there and leave them. The county finally had to post "No Parking" signs for the street sweeper to clean the streets once a week; the night before he starts the car shuffle, moving his classics (NOT! Mostly old beaters) around our neighborhood and into adjacent streets. I have seen his at least 15 of his vehicles parked in 6 other neighborhoods (this doesn't include the 20 or so he keeps "stationed" around his home), like a store parking lot (6), in front of a church (5). He parks them so it appears the cars belong there. We have called the Sheriff's Dept. to have the vehicles marked, but he plays games with them, waiting till the last minute before moving and just re-positioning his cars. The DMV can do nothing since he's not selling them (damn!) but he sure in heck keeps buying them. I have contacted a local Co. supervisor and nothing was done. Anyone have any ideas for some type of legal action that would require him to move all but perhaps 4 of his cars to a storage lot or ? This has been going on for over 10 yrs. and he just keeps buying more cars, then thinking it's his God given right to park them wherever and for however long he wants. This is really a blight to our neighborhood. I am considering documenting (pictures) of all the cars I know are his parked at the places I've seen and sending them to another County Supervisor to try and get some action. Other neighbors have talked of a class action suit. No one needs that many cars, and he sure in heck can't drive them all! Suggestions and advice urgently needed! moreResolved Question: Writing opinions please?
Isabelle Tomkin, I hate my name. It sounds like an old lady who knits sweaters, and drinks prune juice. Sadly, the name Isabelle Tomkin has been all over the news. I can’t seem to escape them, those men with flashing cameras, so we’re moving to Connecticut. I’m losing all my friends for a house in the middle of nowhere. Who ever mentions Connecticut anyway? It’s not like a place that you’d go to on a luxury vacation. You’d go there if you needed to escape from the paparazzi like I did, no ones going to remember me if I go back. It stinks back here, sitting in a rusty old mini van. Gary poking my back every five seconds from the back seat, with Dad trying to completely stay out of it. Oh god, I miss the limos, the flashing lights, the movie premieres, especially my home. Not my house, the runway, I miss smiling my smile, and walking down the black runway in gorgeous dresses and perfect outfits. My make up done by professionals everyday, and my agent calling twenty-four seven booking deals for me. Why am I in a mini van then? My dad refuses to let me live “the good life”, I’m a regular teenager, sitting back here in this car. I can still imagine the gorgeous black ball gown Dad refuses to let me bring from Los Angeles, it’s in storage, its all in storage. Except for what I’m wearing today, a fitted purple mini dress from New York & Company. Even my jet is in storage, we rode coach on the way here. The only thing I can absolutely keep from California is my teacup poodle named Bijou, meaning Jewel. She sits in my lap and lives in my purse all the time, to bad I wont have a purse to bring her around in here. I hold her under my chin, and stroke her lovingly. This is just the beginning of my story, I just wrote another paragraph, it'll be on my deviant art soon though, feel free to check it out: http://shellnutcracka.deviantart.com moreResolved Question: Why do Latinos hate blacks so much?
Happy to have found a place near her salon in Altadena and close to her fiance in Pasadena, the 31-year-old hairdresser moved her four children from North Hollywood into the one-story charmer on Broach Avenue in Duarte last fall. Davy never thought about the fact that they would be the only black family on the mostly Latino block -- until someone reminded her in a way that still makes her eyes tear and her stomach twist. On May 8, Davy opened the door to her home and was greeted by a barrage of spray-painted racial epithets. The hardwood floors, the mirrors, the televisions, the dressers -- the vandals had turned the entire place into a canvas for that six-letter word used for decades to scare and scar African Americans. Shaken, she immediately left and called police. And aside from one trip back to pick up some clothes, Davy has refused to return to a scene authorities believe was created by members of a local Latino gang. "As far as hate crimes go, it's probably one of the worst ones I've seen in my career," said Sgt. Tony Haynes of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Duarte station. "They trashed the furniture and tossed drawers -- there was pretty much no room left untouched." The incident has been the talk of Duarte, a predominantly white and Latino bedroom community of 25,000 in the San Gabriel Valley. Black and Latino gangs have been active in the area for years, and last year a rash of interracial shootings occurred in nearby Monrovia. Since the break-in, Davy and her children have lived in a hotel paid for by the county, but those funds ran out Saturday and she is struggling to find a new home in a place that feels safe. "You can see it in her face, the stress she's going through," said Lynn Lawrence, who owns the salon where Davy works. "Emotionally it has had quite an effect on her." Wary of disclosing the area in which she hopes to settle, Davy said the last two landlords she spoke with backed out at the last minute. Others have asked for deposits she can't afford. "As of now, we really have nowhere to go," Davy said Monday in the courtyard of Duarte City Hall, where a community meeting had been called to address the incident. "It's kinda hard to pick up the pieces of what has transpired for me and my family." As she spoke, Kenny Johnson was two miles away, lugging green garbage bags down the sidewalk of the working-class neighborhood where his children once played. The father of three of Davy's children, he had come to the house that morning with his brother and two friends to begin clearing away what belongings could be salvaged. Johnson said he plans to marry Davy, but he keeps his own apartment so she can maintain her Section 8 eligibility. They had discovered the Duarte house together and agreed: Beautiful home. Beautiful neighborhood. But after the break-in, the 36-year-old barber sees only an intimidating residence littered with shards of glass. "We were quiet people, man," he said, shaking his head in disbelief as he picked up children's shoes and toys. His children haven't seen the vandalism and only know that something bad happened there. While his friends pulled a mattress out of the master bedroom, Johnson stopped to look at a wall calendar of Barack Obama. "This is the only thing they didn't touch," he said, smiling at the irony of hope hanging on one wall and hate spray-painted across the rest. The landlord has encouraged the family to return, but Johnson said their sense of security has been violated. They won't get their deposit back, but moving is worth it, even if it means putting their things in storage for the time being. "I don't blame them," said Davy's next-door neighbor Betty Peirce, 75. "I don't think I could come back either." One of the few whites who live in the area, Peirce said she hadn't thought about racial tension during the three decades she has lived on Broach Avenue. She never imagined anything would happen to her black neighbors, especially because they seemed like nice people who were often at work. Duarte officials and the county's Commission on Human Relations have extended support to Davy and called for healing in the community. "It's obvious that even in Duarte, people still do incredibly stupid and foolish things," Mayor John Fasana said. He emphasized the city-sponsored programs already in place that promote racial unity, but said, "If there's gaps out there we need to fill in, we're open to new ideas." Both Davy and Johnson say they just want to move forward with their lives. "Bad things happen to good people all the time," Johnson said, taking a break from cleaning. "You just gotta live and learn." His brother, Ronald Harris, 31, nodded, then paused. "Our grandparents used to tell us stories about stuff like this," he said. "We always thought, 'Nah, not us.' " As birds chirped in the June breeze, the two sat for a moment on the stoop of the three-bedroom cream-colored resid moreResolved Question: Eviction advice for mother?
My mom recently moved in with my sister. They live in Los Angeles. My sister plans to put my mom out on the 2nd of May. She told me she will pack my mom things, put them in storage and tell my mom she has to leave immediately! Now my mom is difficult to live with but she's 68 and disable. My sister ASKED her to move in. I know my sister will do this (she has before) but before it happens what are my mother's legal rights. Or what should she do? Staying with me is NOT an option. My house is filled to the rim with children and my sister has none. Mom had her own apartment and gave it up to move in with my sis. I told both of them I thought it was a bad item long before. Anyone know who I can contact? moreResolved Question: On what day when given a 30-day notice do i have to be completely gone? the 30th day or the day after?
basically, i received a 30-day notice on july 15th to vacate property. i was on a month-to-month and had lived there over a year, so i know i was supposed to be given a 60-day notice (im in los angeles, california), but i let it slide. i paid rent from august 1st - august 15th. the rent was accepted, there by null-and-voiding the 30-day notice date and moving my last allowable full day and night to august 15th instead of the 14th. i had planned on all my stuff to be gone by the night of the 15th. the problem was i missed my public storage gate hours by 90 minutes, so i had no place to put my stuff except back in the apartment. the question now becomes, could i use the 16th as my move-out morning, or was i supposed to have vacated property sometime during the 15th? is it like hotels, where if u rent 3 days and nights, u have to be out the following morning by 12pm? im asking this because the manager is going to take out an extra full day's rent because i had my stuff in the apartment on the 16th, although i was gone by 12pm.thanks for the answer, however, no, i will not "go on my merry way." im actually looking for a legal answer here, not an opinion. for instance, it would be illegal for him to "padlock my door and sell my stuff" and it would cost him HUGE for doing so (as in the cost of my stuff, my utilities, emotional damages, and lawyer fees). im interested in finding out the legal terms of when a person should or shouldnt have to vacate property. was i in my legal rights to use the august 16th morning for move-out?thanks for the answer ed atun, but i have no idea how that answers the question. maybe it does and there isnt enough detail in there, but i dont see how it could pertain to what i asked. could someone please answer the question withstanding? moreVoting Question: how would you transport your s#*t to your college?
i currently live in los angeles and may be going to college in some pretty remote places where the nearest airport may be 50 miles away. obviously, once i reach the airport, i would get to my college via shuttle bus or train. but, does anyone have any suggestions as far as how to move/transport all of your luggage to the college? should i just take it all with me (and if i do, how would i manage to carry/roll several huge luggage bags from the airport to the shuttle bus, load the luggage on the shuttle bus, and then take it up to my dorm room?) or should i make arrangements to ship the luggage over to my college (and which address? if i ship a package to my dorm, and i'm not there to pick it up, am i going to have to pick it up at the nearest shipping storage area?) basically, i'm experiencing logistical stress. if anyone who is in college right now or has graduated college has gone through moving to a remote city for college, could you share your experience transportating your s#*t? moreResolved Question: Where is my primary residence, for Income Tax purposes?
I am an independent filmmaker and have made movies in both Texas and Los Angeles, as a Texas resident. Last year my wife and I decided to try to fulfill our dream of being able to work and live in California full time. The plan was that I go out and see if I could find enough work to sustain both of us; if that worked out I would then look for permanent housing. Last March, my wife and I moved out of our Texas apartment and she moved into her parent's home in the same Texas city. The same month (March) we moved all of our personal belongings to storage and I flew to California and stayed with my grandmother. In April, we filed a joint return with her parent's Texas address. By mid-May it was obvious we could make the move and she began her job hunting. She landed a job and moved to California in June. I moved into an apartment in Los Angeles on June 1. When did my date of California residency begin? I assume it to be after I signed my Form-1040 on 4/18/2007 in Texas. Very confusing! moreResolved Question: Is Driving a privilege or civl right volation is there any reason to trust the open borders lobby now?
Police roadblocks to remove unlicensed drivers challenged From wire service reports A controversial police technique to remove unlicensed drivers from the roads is being challenged on civil rights grounds, and another federal court decision is expected soon, it was reported today. Police across California are using temporary roadblocks to find unlicensed drivers, and impound their cars. But Latino rights groups say that practice is discriminatory and aimed at undocumented workers, who are unable to pay for their cars' steep impound fees. Los Angeles and Orange counties have joined several other agencies in supporting a state law that requires cars driven by unlicensed or uninsured motorists to be impounded on the spot, and towed to a storage yard. Three civil rights law firms have sued several agencies, including the City of Los Angeles, for impounding cars owned by illegal aliens, who are barred by state law from getting drivers licenses. The suit claims that Latinos are being singled out in an unconstitutional, sweeping move that violates constitutional protections against unreasonable police conduct against all persons, not just U.S. citizens. ``We've heard a lot of complaints from the Latino community,'' said Bill Flores, a San Diego County Latino organizer, in an interview with the Oceanside North County Times. He noted that the impound fees of $1,500 must be added to towing and administrative fees that can go above another $400. The groups argue that the cars should be parked safely and the motorists cited, so the cases can be heard in court. Some licensed drivers have lost their cars when they could not find their insurance documents at the roadblocks, or if they lent the car to an unlicensed driver, and could not afford to get them out of impound. But the government attorneys argue that state law is aimed at protecting the public by removing the cars driven by unlicensed, uninsured drivers from the streets immediately. http://www.dailybreeze.com/news/articles/8659077.html Driving is a privilege, NOT a civil right. If the idiots had such an arguement, all drunk drivers would be released tomorrow. Guess they Better ban the DUI checkpoints too. Of course, these laws ONLY apply to law abiding citizens. They don’t apply to anyone else. This may sound twisted, but sadly it seems to be true. Increasingly, there seem to be different sets of laws for different groups. moreResolved Question: Relocating Help?
