Resolved Question: what do i do if my landlord damaged my personal property?
this is the second time that my landlord has damaged my personal property. the first time he came to our house without notifying us and sprayed a toxic smelling chemical on the ceiling of our basement which had recently been torn out due to mold (which we didnt raise a big fuss about). Not only did he spray a very potent chemical in a closed space (didnt leave the door or windows open), he didn't move our music equipment that was under the area he was spraying. Splatters of the sticky blueish green liquid covered my guitar, cables, effects pedals and surge protector. My roommate came home thinking there was a gas leak from the strong smell and phoned the landlord. Days later he came by and we told him that he damaged our property and violated the law by not giving us notice of his visit and spraying a harsh chemical without telling us what it was or anything. A heated argument ensued in which he would barely respond to things we were saying, he doesnt speak english well but i think we got our idea across. He kept saying that he was an old man and he wasn't going to change his ways. I eventually had to leave the room because it was so aggravating. The best we could get from him was that he would tell us when he was going to come by ahead of time. Months ago my roommate decided he was going to live with his girlfriend, so I found another place to live and we are moving out at the end of our lease (august 31st). In addition to playing music I paint and make films/animations. As the last week of living in a house with a backyard approached, I decided to use the space to photograph some paintings i had made and create some scupltures with wood, speakers, fish tanks, any other things I was going to get rid of anyway, I spent some time setting up a scene, stacking, and painting the items. With less than a week to go until we move out, the landlord comes over without telling us and cuts the backyard grass. He then takes all of my materials and chucks them in a pile, including my painting supplies. Now to some this stuff might look a little junky, but i had spent a lot of time painting and setting these things up. If it wasn't something I cared about so strongly i would probably just let it go, but its the second time he's damaged my artwork/equipment with a blatant disregard for me. I live in los angeles, california. what possible legal/retaliatory action can i take to gain some justice from this situation. I am going to wait until we move out and get our security deposit back, but what can i do???? suggestions.... moreResolved Question: Is this the end of the road for America ?
By Ambrose Evans-Pilchard, International Business Editor Published: 8:52PM BST 15 Jul 2010 for UK-Telegraph C/P The euro rocketed to a two-month high of $1.29 and sterling jumped two cents to almost $1.54 after the Fed confessed that the US economy may not recover for five or six years. Far from winding down emergency stimulus, the bank may need a fresh blast of bond purchases or quantitative easing. Usually the dollar serves as a safe haven whenever the world takes fright, and there was plenty of sobering news from China and other quarters on Thursday. Not this time. The US itself has become the problem. "The worm is turning," said David Bloom, currency chief at HSBC. "We're in a world of rotating sovereign crises. The market seems to become obsessed with one idea at a time, then violently swings towards another. People thought the euro would break-up. Now we're moving into a new phase because we're hearing alarm bells of a US double dip." Mr Bloom said a deep change is under way in investor psychology as funds and central banks respond to the blizzard of shocking US data and again focus on the fragility of an economy where public debt is surging towards 100pc of GDP, not helped by the malaise enveloping the Obama White House. "The Europeans have aired their dirty debt in public and taken some measures to address it, whilst the US has not," he said. The Fed minutes warned of "significant downside risks" and a possible slide into deflation, an admission that zero interest rates, $1.75 trillion of QE, and a fiscal deficit above 10pc of GDP have so far failed to lift the economy out of a structural slump. "The Committee would need to consider whether further policy stimulus might become appropriate if the outlook were to worsen appreciably," it said. The economy might not regain its "longer-run path" until 2016. "The Fed is throwing in the towel," said Gabriel Stein, of Lombard Street Research. "They are preparing to start QE again. This was predictable because the M3 broad money supply has been contracting for months." The Fed minutes amount to a policy thunderbolt, evidence of how quickly the recovery has lost steam. Just weeks ago the Fed was mapping out withdrawal of stimulus. Goldman Sachs said it expects the euro to rise to $1.35 by the end of the year. The yen will appreciate to ¥83, through the pain barrier for most of Japan's big exporters. The new twist is that SAFE, China's $2.4 trillion fund, has begun buying record amounts of Japanese bonds, a shift in reserve allocation away from the dollar. The signs of a deep and sudden slowdown in the US are becoming ever clearer as the "sugar rush" from the Obama fiscal stimulus wears off and the inventory boost fades. California, Illinois and other states are cutting spending, tightening US fiscal policy by 0.8pc of GDP. Thursday's plunge in the Philadelphia Fed's July index of new manufacturing orders to –4.3 suggests that the economy may have buckled abruptly, as it did in mid-2008. The Economic Cycle Research Institute's ECRI leading indicator has tumbled, reaching –8.3pc last week. This points to a sharp slowdown or recession within three months. While US port data looked buoyant in June, the details were troubling. Outbound traffic from Long Beach fell from 139,000 containers in May to 116,000 in June. Shipments from Los Angeles fell from 161,000 to 155,000. This drop in exports is worsening the US trade deficit, eroding the dollar. The US workforce has shrunk by a 1m over the past two months as discouraged jobless give up the hunt. Retail sales have fallen for the past two months. New homes sales crashed to 300,000 in May after tax credits ran out, the lowest since records began in 1963. Mortgage applications have fallen by 42pc to 13-year low since April. Paul Dales at Capital Economics said the "shadow inventory" of unsold properties has risen to 7.8m. "The double dip in housing has begun," he said. Alcoa, CSX, Intel, and JP Morgan have reported good earnings, but they mostly did so in July 2008 just before their shares collapsed. Such earnings rarely catch turning points and can be a lagging indicator. Profits have been boosted in this cycle by cost-cutting, which is self-defeating for the economy as a whole. The minutes confirm the Fed is split down the middle over QE. Fed watchers say the Board in Washington wants to be ready to launch another round of bond purchases if necessary, pushing the banks balance sheet from $2.4 trillion towards $5 trillion, but hawks at the regional banks are highly sceptical. A study by the San Francisco Fed said the interest rates need to be –4.5pc to stabilise the economy under the Fed's "rule of thumb". Since this is impossible, massive QE needs to make up the difference. Tim Congdon from International Monetary Re moreResolved Question: Do you like my novel excerpt? FEEDBACK PLEASE?
Prologue: Bella Beckham personified Hollywood glamour with an unparalleled glow and energy that enamored the world. Although she was an alluring beauty with voluptuous curves and a generous pout, she was more than a beautiful sex goddess. Her apparent vulnerability and innocence, in combination with an innate sensuality, slowly endeared her to the global consciousness. She dominated the age of movie stars to become, without question, the most famous woman of the 20th Century. - The New York Times When Bella Beckham was a fourth grader, her teacher asked the class to make a “vision board” — a collage of images cut out from magazines that represents the dreams and aspirations you hope to manifest in life. The year was 2002 and Britney Spears had just won a Grammy Award, so nine-year-old Bella chose a photo of the young and successful pop singer holding her golden statuette. Seven years later Bella has been nominated for her first Grammy Award in the “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” category for her ubiquitous No. 1 single, "Wish You Were Here," from her platinum Top 10 album Make Love Not War, and has been chosen as this year’s My GRAMMY® Moment artist. Current sales check in at over 2 million albums and more than 13 million tracks, singles and mobile product globally. “I found my vision board when I moved apartments recently,” says Beckham, now 16. “I knew where I wanted to be even as a young kid. I just didn’t know that if I put one foot in front of the other, I would actually get there someday.” - The Los Angeles Times Bombshells. Sex kittens. Pin-up girls. In Hollywood, such creatures have always been in plentiful supply. But just about once in a generation, a bona fide sex symbol will come along to stand out from the pack: some beautiful sex-bomb goddess whose mere photograph is enough to flutter the collective pulse and whose appearance on a red carpet causes both flashbulbs and eyes to pop. These women are synonymous with the S-word because they make men think impure thoughts rather than associate them with any particular movie role, product or publicist-constructed persona. Every era gets the sex symbol it deserves -- at least, so goes pop cultural thinking on the matter. What then to make of Bella Beckham? To be sure, she is the newest "it" girl to ascend into the vaunted pantheon of sex-bomb goddesses. - Glamour Magazine When Bella Beckham was a little girl, she would sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Britney Spears hits and get twirled in the air in daddy’s arms to the sounds of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The precocious child would dance around the table at fancy Upper West Side restaurants using the breadsticks as a baton and she would innocently greet a new babysitter in nothing but her birthday suit. Beckham’s willful determination, not to mention her songwriting and vocal talent and larger-than-life charisma, have led to an astonishing year for the saucer-eyed, raven-haired pop starlet, who, with her cheeky sense of humor and sexy pin-up girl style, was “the breakthrough star of 2008” as Blender magazine put it in the issue that featured Beckham on the cover. It’s no wonder that little girl from a good Italian New York family, turned into the exhibitionist, multi-talented singer-songwriter with a flair for theatrics that she is today: Bella Beckham. The following was a letter to the editor of the LA Times. Hector, I can't believe that a major metropolitan paper like the LA Times would publish drivel like your distortion-laden column I had the misfortune to read today. The citizens of Arizona passed a law that makes it necessary to prove you are in their state LEGALLY. They are tired of paying TWO BILLION taxpayer dollars a year in medical and educational benefits to people in their state ILLEGALLY. They are tired of the Mexican drug traffickers, kidnappings (389 last year), traffic accidents, and crime caused by ILLEGAL immigrants in their state. They are tired of citizens of a foreign country overcrowding and bankrupting their emergency rooms and schools. They have the ABSOLUTE RIGHT to defend their state when the federal government fails to do so just like I have the right to put three hollow-points in the chest of the guy who's trying to kick in my front door when the cops don't show up. It has been the law in this country since 1940 that foreign nationals be able to produce proof that they are here LEGALLY by way of visa, green card, etc. This "Produce your papers" and the allusions to Nazi Germany is a bunch of dishonest claptrap. If you took time to read the Arizona law (assuming you can read English) you would see that police officers may only inquire as to an individual’s immigration status in the course of a "legal contact". The problem with you and Mexicans like you is the fact that you have this sense of entitlement that you can enter OUR COUNTRY as you please. You come from a culture and a country with no respect for the law or the rule of law. The United States is a sovereign nation with the ABSOLUTE RIGHT to decide who does and does not enter our country. What amuses me the most is the fact that if our illegal immigration problem was due to the influx of SWEDES, you wouldn't have written ONE WORD in the defense of their rights? It is only because they are Hispanics like you that you leap to their defense. I find it ironic that you are truer to your Hispanic roots than you are to your American citizenship, especially since the Hispanic culture is a broke-dick, busted-ass, ignorant-ass, uneducated, going-nowhere culture and has been for the last 500 years, and in all likelihood, will be for the NEXT 500 years. When I moved to California in 1969, Los Angeles was a clean prosperous city. Now it's broke under the weight of massive entitlements. Now we need concertina wire to protect our freeway signs from Hispano-moron graffiti "artists'. What an enlightened culture you come from that believes that vandalizing another’s property is an art form. Over 400 California families have lost loved ones to ILLEGAL immigrant murderers. 40% of the criminals incarcerated in our prisons at CALIFORNIA TAXPAYER EXPENSE, are ILLEGAL immigrants. Thank you so much for our overcrowded ERs, schools and freeways. Thanks also for the gangs and the drive-by shootings. In all fairness though, I like the tacos. If I want to enter Mexico, France, England, Germany or ANY country on this earth, I need to produce a passport to do so. It's THEIR COUNTRY and I need to ask permission to do so. HOW DARE you and your brethren think that they have some God-given right to flout our laws and come into our country of their own accord. You and people like you are the textbook example of why the fewer Mexicans we have in our country, the better our country will be. We manage to produce a steady supply of home-grown idiots on our own, thank very much (Exhibit A - Obama) Good luck with your boycotts and your protests. Just remember amigo, 70% of the people in Arizona and 65% of Americans LOVE this law. Every time you put together thousands of protesters, you piss off MILLIONS of people like me. Just read the following news: Modern Day Slavery in America -- Over 300,000 U.S. Children Fall Prey to Sex Trafficking http://www.alternet.org/story/146932/modern_day_slavery_in_america_--_over_300,000_u.s._children_fall_prey_to_sex_trafficking People may have trouble believing that child prostitution has become a national problem -- but it's on the verge of becoming out of control. May 19, 2010 | Child prostitution has become a national problem in this country. Yes, I know that you have trouble believing that. You don't want to believe it, so you tend not to. "Widespread sex trafficking in children?" you may be saying to yourself. "Sure, it happens overseas in places like Thailand and Moldova, and while there may be some of it here there's not that much of it in our country." Based on a months-long investigation and some reportorial digging, I'm here to tell you that you are wrong. We all are. We're in denial. In covering news for more than 60 years, I'd like to think that few stories shock me anymore. But this is one of them. We ran across it late last year and the more we dug, the more disturbing it became. Eighty-year-old men paying a premium to violate teenage girls, sometimes supplied by former drug gangs now into child sex trafficking big time? You've got to be kidding. Nope. That's happening and a lot more along the same lines. The business is booming. One of the worst areas for it runs along lines running roughly from Seattle to Portland, to San Francisco and Los Angeles, to Las Vegas. But no place in the country is immune. To pick just one example among many, Portland, Oregon is without doubt one of the nation's treasures. It has been voted one of the best places to live and work. But according to police, the city and its outlying communities has become a hub for the sexual exploitation of children. In a recent nationwide sting by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, Portland ranked second in the country for the number of rescued child prostitutes. And according to Doug Justus, the workhorse sergeant in charge of Portland's tiny vice detail, many of the children caught up in this are middle class kids from the area. The girls, sometimes as young as 12, often 13-16, are lured by a "front man" in his mid-to-late teens. He becomes her "boyfriend," taking her to dinner, buying her nice things, sometimes meeting her parents. The girl eventually moves in with him. Then he says they need money to continue being together. First, she's enticed to sleep with his friends to pay the rent. Soon she's turning tricks for what police say is an endless supply of older men willing to pay top money for sex with very young girls. Other times convincing the young adolescent girls to sell themselves happens very quickly. "It is an out-of-control problem. It's unbelievable," say Justus. "I've only done this vice-squad job for three years. I've been a cop for 29. If you had told me three years ago that a 14-year-old girl would go to a food court, meet a guy, and three hours later be selling herself, I'd 'a said, no frigging way. It happens every single day, every day." It is a very lucrative business, according to Justus. "An average pimp with one kid will make between $800 and $l,000 a day. That's seven days a week, 30 days a month," he said. And the pimps usually have a stable of young girls. No wonder so many criminals in the drug trade have turned to it which they have in droves. There's less chance of being caught, less chance of being prosecuted if caught, lighter sentences -- if any. moreResolved Question: I need a couple titles for this story, script, any come in mind?(EASY 10 POINTS)?

What I'm looking for is to clear up unclear spots. I'm looking for people to read through what comes next, then ask me clarifying questions. (ex. How does XXXXXXXX happen?) Ok, here goes. This will take place in the near future. The world is not at peace, and the threat of nuclear war is a possibility. Two high ranking officers in the US army have a burning rivalry, but in the interest of their country, they keep the infighting to a minimum. One day, astronomers spot a very large cluster of asteroids moving at Earth at a very high speed. There is no doubt that Earth will be hit in multiple locations. A fanatically religious group based in Los Angeles declares that this is God's punishment for humanity and all of the weak will be wiped out, while the strong will be rewarded. They begin to gather more and more followers, and gain power rapidly. In fact, one of the rivaling officers takes all of his men to join the fanatics, calling themselves the Zealots. The other takes his men and creates a group called the Guardians to try to save humanity. The Guardians rush to secure a nuclear bunker before the Zealots can do the same. Meanwhile, the government attempts to stop this asteroid storm by sending a space shuttle to lay a field of nukes to blow up the asteroids as they pass. However, this fails. A few days before the asteroids arrive, a scientist brings incredible news to the world. He had been working on a shield system that would have been used to shield cities from nukes in the event that a nuclear war broke out. He tells the world that at his factory, he is mass producing generators and is already beginning to ship the generators to all major cities around the world. But just as hope is restored, the fanatics backed by the Zealots take over the factory, and prevent generators from reaching the intended cities. The Guardians rush to intervene, but they are too late. The Zealots blow up the factory, kill the inventor, destroy the plans for the shield generators, and take only enough generators to protect Los Angeles. The Zealots lockdown Los Angeles as they begin to set up the generators, and with only one day left, they finish setting up. No longer believing in the fanatics ways, one of the top members defects to inform the Guardians on the plans after the asteroids strike. Learning of these plans, the Guardians realize that there will be another war immediately after. They begin to move supplies, food and equipment into the nuclear bunker. With only a few hours to spare, they begin to fill the rest of the area with civilians, hoping to save as many lives as possible. Shortly after the asteroids fall, the fanatics drop the shield, and the Zealots move out, hunting survivors, claiming that they are finishing what God did not: kill the weak. And, that's as far as I got. I haven't really thought about the events after the asteroids fall. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: Dependent or Independent Beneficial or Not?
OOOOkay Its a Long one..... here it goes.... i asked this b4 but here is a lot more of details. So I’ve been taking care of my younger cousin since … February 2008. By care I mean he’s like my kid. I pay for his school supplies, if he needs shoes I get them, I bought him his games like x box, I buy his under clothes, hair cuts, I feed him, he’s mine. Okay quick background on us; I go full time to college. I slacked off a lot a while back so my gpa suffered. I work part time making 12.58 an hour but only work 32 hours in two weeks. I do odd jobs here, and there that pay me cash up front. My boy goes to school and that’s about it. We live in Los Angeles, CA. I drive out by Azusa for school and work out in West Covina. Mon-Thur. Well anyways we’ve been hit hard with money problems lately and well once you need money you start looking for ways to get a little help. I am 19 about to be 20 in October and he is only 10. So I always thought I would not qualify for fafsa and never bothered to even try because I know I still have to be under my parents. But last week I got a hold of the worksheets for fafsa… you know the ones you are not suppose to mail. So I was reading threw it and a part of checking whether you are independent or dependent … this came up… “Dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you now and through June 30, 2010” I would have to mark yes right? Because he does. And I guess this makes me dependent right? Then I was thinking I have never bothered to ask his dad if I can claim him on my taxes. This past year (its my second time doing this) I claimed just myself and his dad claimed him. I don’t know how it works but I know it has to do with money so I don’t move it. But know, to state me as independent with him would I have to claim him in my taxes? And can I still state myself as independent with him even if this past tax season I didn’t claim him? I’d really appreciate if someone could talk to me a little more about this… I am really confused and I think all my writing might of confused some of you. But thanks anyways… moreResolved Question: Advice on how to ship/move with my fish?
First, let me say that I'll be flying from Miami, FL to Los Angeles, CA (5 hour trip). I'll be checking them in obviously. Secondly, let me state whom I'll be taking with me: (from start of head to end of tail measurements) 3x Electric Blue - 1 is 6", the other two are 4" 1x Peacock - 4" 3x Brichardis - 3" 2x Blood Parrots - fat 5" or so 2x African Albino Frogs - small - medium (not big enough to eat the fish lol) 2x Common Plecos - 8" 2x Clown Plecos - small little guys 1x Bristlenose - same as above 2x Snails I need some advice on what supplies to get in order to make this as safe as possible. The last thing I want is to open up my luggage or case and see them dying or dead. I do not want that! Which is why I ask you, fellow fish enthusiasts. I'm hoping there's someone on the forums who has this kind of experience (selling fish online, etc.) and would know what to do in a heartbeat. Anyway, my common sense tells me that I'll need Heat packs, since it gets real cold upon elevation of altitude, and I'll need oxygen tablets. What's the best brand and such? How long does one heat pack last? How hot does it get? I don't have a clue what kind of container/tank or whatever to put them in, let alone what kind of luggage to use (must be something durable). Please chime in with your thoughts and ideas. Thanks! P.S - A nice "cycled" tank will be waiting for them in California! So this bumpy trip must be perfect. moreResolved Question: What's it like to move from Canada to go to POST SEC in the US (LA)?

My sister is 12 years old. In July we reported her missing but it turns out she stole the car, went to the airport, and bought a ticket to Los Angeles with money she stole from our parents and stayed with a 20 year old guy she met on myspace. She came back last week to our relief that she is alive but she has informed us that she is now 10 weeks pregnant!! Along with her pregnancy she has missed her first 2 months of junior high (7th grade) and does not want to go back. Instead, she goes out everyday and hangs out with high school guys who are supplying her with cocaine and crystal meth in exchange for oral sex. Our parents dont have time to watch her because they work 70 hours/week each and think that she is staying home all day because the is grounded. I have tried to stop her from leaving the house in the mornings but she just threatens to shoot me with a gun she got in LA. I have heard that she is planning to permanently move to LA and I dont know how to help her. moreResolved Question: temporary home for cats?
I'm moving to Los Angeles to reside with relatives who are wary of cats. I'm looking for a temporary home for Junior. He's a 22 month old cat. Very playful and cuddly. I need a place for him to stay for about 2 months while I look for a place of my own. If you can help me I'll supply food and litter for him. I'm only able to pay very little for any other upkeep. Thank you. moreTop Moving Supplies Los Angeles Links
