Hello, =) Lemme just give you a little background information so you can see where I am coming from. Ever since I was young I have always liked entertaining people, especially trying to make people laugh. When I was younger I was one of the star roles in a 5th grade play. That was probably the most fun I ever had in elementary school, I loved playing someone else, it was sort of like escaping reality and becoming enticed in another one's affairs. About 2 years later I was another star role in a 7th grade play. I was one of the "comic relief" roles, which was perfect for me. In my childhood days I used to watch this animated television show on Cartoon Network called "Teen Titans." I loved this show, it was very different from any other show. I didn't realize until I was older, but the reason why I loved this show so much, is because of the great voice acting and the general theme and style that the show possessed. The show stopped airing in 2006, and I thought that that was the last time I would ever see that show. It crushed me, it was like losing a friend in a way; because I watched that show from the start until the end, which, I believe, was 4 years. However, just recently the show started airing re-runs again. Even now as I am older, this excited me. I began watching it, and the same good memories that I obtained before starting rushing back. Something was different this time though. I started to get feelings such as, "Man, I really want to do that" and "I wish I could be a voice actor." My favorite character on the series, "Beast Boy" was voiced by a man named, Greg Cipes. I never really paid attention to who was actually voicing the character when I was younger, I always thought that they were "voicing themselves" in a way, I saw the characters as people, rather than animations. Now, however, I paid more attention to who the voices of the characters were and Greg Cipes really stuck out. He has really been a major influence to me, and he has really made me want to "follow in his footsteps." That was about 7 months ago and my mind still has not changed. Everyday I still dream of becoming a star-role voice actor, but I don't know how to achieve my ultimate dream and goal. In terms of support, I have none. No one believes in me, and my mother even goes as far to say that I won't be able to do it. This really brings me down, because in my opinion, everyone needs at least someone there for them, someone that they can trust and love and know that whatever choice they make, they have someone there that tells them they can do it. My other problem is I am currently living in Arizona, and the major talent agencies are located in big-time towns such as Los Angeles and New York. Being only 17 years old, I don't have much choice in the location in which I live, and I don't have near the amount of money needed to rent even a small apartment in either city. I plan to go to college when I graduate from high school in May (yay =)). I was wondering if I should major in something that will help me with this goal of mine. I was considering Drama, but I am asking for an opinion first before I decide. I know that if I am going to get anywhere, first I will have to start from rock-bottom. What exactly would "rock-bottom" for voice acting be? Commercials? Children or Short-story recordings? I am not sure where to even start. However, doing a little research and some sneak-peaks at talent agency's websites, some of them require you to be at least 18 years old. Do you think it would be better for me to wait until I am 18 (in April) before I start up anything, just to stay focused on my school work until graduation? I know I may have a few more questions, but these are the main ones that I am wondering about. I am very sorry about this lengthy "story-question" that I have provided for you, I really got carried away, haha. =) Even if you cannot provide an answer to the questions I have provided, it would be much appreciated just to hear your opinion on the matter. Hello. I am a 22-year-old male from St.Louis, MO. I am contemplating my next move in life. In December 2010 I will graduate with my Bachelors. (I obtained my Associates at a trade school.) I don’t know what my next move should be. I am trying to decide should I go to grad school or move to a big city to try to work in the entertainment industry. In the entertainment industry I would like to do the following: appear in commercials, print ads, TV shows, and obtain small roles in movies. I am not attempting to become some huge star, but I would like to see could I make a living in the entertainment industry. Long term I would like to have the proper knowledge base, and experiences to manage others careers, and potentially create my own agency full of aspiring talent. Once again short term I just want to appear in a couple of TV shows, host a show, obtain movie roles, and do some commercial modeling. I am contemplating moving to the following places… Los Angeles, Chicago, or Atlanta. I know it’s kind of an odd combination of places to try to get into the entertainment industry. The reason for LA is because it is just a given, but the downside it’s way too expensive for me. Chicago is a little more affordable, closer to home, my best friend said I could live with him until I get on my feet, but the downside is it doesn’t have all the opportunities that LA could give me. Atlanta is an option because one of my best friends is moving there to try to get into the entertainment industry, therefore we can go through our struggles together, but I don’t see really that much opportunity there. Graduate school is a sure way to increase my job marketability, and make more money. I could go to grad school for the next two years and be done by the age of 25. I am scared of failing, and I don’t want to waste time that’s why grad school is an option because it is a safer choice. Facts: I am getting older, so it is important to be working on a solid career I don’t have the extra money lying around to waste making a bad decision (I have student loans that I will have to pay back) I have enrolled in acting classes I plan on getting headshots done I hate living in St.Louis I don’t want to be too broke; financially I am doing ok, and have a lot of nice things that I enjoy I have been working on trying to speak with anyone that knows anything about the entertainment industry so I can learn from them People always say I should go for it, and that it seems like I would work in the entertainment industry I am no fool, I know the odds of making it in Hollywood are not ideal, so it’s not a bad idea to have a back up plan I am willing to put in the hard work and get a million rejections for that one yes I was selected to be in an ad ran in a major newspaper in St.Louis, the ad ran more than 10 times I would like to at least be wealthy by the age of 26 The point of the post is the following: I would like any and everyone’s opinion on what I should do Advice on how to get into the entertainment industry would be great Best city based off the basic information provided would be for me to move to Good people to get into contact with Any advice, input, or commentary would be appreciated!!! What i mean is like..... If i were to get an agent in Los Angeles would I have to fly out there every time there was an audition for a movie or film? Or would the agencies send me the script and have me film a professional audition tape and then send it back to them? again... I'm just confused and want to know how the whole thing works. Because I know that when young actors like Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brother, Selena Gomez, etc all sent in audition tapes and then called in to audition when they had a call back. I have previous acting experience, besides schools plays, and an acting class when I was real young and such. I know, me and a billion other 13 year old girls dream of being in movies. Something to do with the effects afterwards. But I've watched how they film the scenes. I don't want some google search of talent agencies in portland, because those can be scams, unless you know they are reliable agencies. And I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on something that I will get nothing out of. Ever since I was 5 I've wanted to be an actress or singer. I don't necessarily aspire to be famous though, but I could manage it. I just want something that looks good on my resume, so that I could audition for a real movie. I don't have the means to travel to Los Angeles right now, unless I know for sure I could get something. I went to audition for a role in a certain movie and they thought i had the talent but i needed a talent agent.My friend told me not to trust any of the talent agencies on the internet because you can never be sure of their reputation or legitimacy. Voting Question: where can i find a good acting agent?

I live in Los Angeles and I'm 14. I've never had an agent before, but I've tried out for so many, and the ones I got into asked me for money, so I turned them down. I've been interested in acting since I was 4. I need some good recommendations of agents or agencies looking for new talent that can help me book jobs, and not ask for money (obviously I'll pay the 10% commission fee.) Also, I tried out for this one agency called Casablanca. I found it online and I called and they told me about a meeting that was in a few days. SO many people came, and I waited for hours. They were calling people in to be interviewed, and when I got my turn, I read lines and answered all the questions. The lady said "I like you, and only about 5% of that room gets into this." And she gave me a number and a folder and said to call back the next day for another interview and I was so excited. But when I looked through the folder, there was a paper that said if I get in, I have to sign up for this workshops that are thousands of dollars. Do you think those were mandatory or did I make a mistake not calling? more

After I graduate college I plan on seeking a career in film acting. I'm planning on moving to Atlanta for a while before I decide to move out west to Los Angeles. My reason for doing this is because I know that the film industry is just as bustling down there as it is in Hollywood, and I also hope to be able to work with Tyler Perry's film production company as well. im getting my head shots in like a month, because i have to pay for it, and since my bat mitzvah is next week i will hopefully get enough money to pay for head shots. i have a talent agency in mind [ cr kids talent ] whom i have met with last year. and they want me, i just need my head shots. i have no experience but i have many talents: gymnastics, dance, singing. ive never tried acting but ive wanted to become an actress since i was 7. i live in la, which is very convenient. i told my mom that i want to take acting classes so i can have more experience. my family friend is a director so he said i can be an extra in some of his movies. so do i not have enough experience to act and geet a major role? do you know of any acting classes in the los angeles area? and what exactly happens at an acting audition? what do you wear? dress the part of just be yourself? thank you. more

Resolved Question: Is there an easier way of getting into nursing school?

Ok some of you may have already come across some of my previous questions. I've come to a point in my life where I would like to change my career. Currently I'm a substitute teacher teaching in elementary schools in the LAUSD. Unfortunately there are a few jobs available, and the districts pay very little or not hiring at all because of the budget cuts. I'm also burning out of teaching, it's like you're a babysitter, kids don't respect you, and most parents are even worse. I considered going into a trucking career because of the great money and ease of working. But many of my relatives and friends keep telling me not to throw away my talents on some job that doesn't even require any education, although there are many college educated truck drivers out there. I''ve even considered going into nursing because I know people who are nurses, they make tons of money, even though the job is as stressful as teaching, but there are always jobs available. My problem is how can I get into a nursing program in Southern California, in the Los Angeles area, if there are far too many applicants, and on top of that they have a lottery to admit students into programs. They're in dire need of nurses, but make it next to impossible to become one! Any advice, please no links to job agencies or school websites, I already did the research, I just need some advice from experienced nurses, and/or truckers. more

I owned and operated Models Exchange Model and Talent Agency from 1982 to 2006 in Ft. Lauderdale. After 25 years, I decided to close the agency because the field became saturated with bogus internet modeling websites that only confused new talent and usually charged monthly fees to join. During my operating years, I worked on tens of thousands of movies, tv shows, tv commercials, print ads, music videos, and much, much more. During this time, not only did I fill castings for local work through casting directors and production companies, I also made very strong contacts in the Los Angeles and Hollywood market. My contacts on the west coast can make things happen for those that have a strong desire to get ahead in this field and have a certain look or talent. These opportunities DO NOT exist in the south Florida market.
