Open Question: I am interested in working as a mature model-how can I pursue it effectively here in Los Angeles?

A former New Yorker and Floridian, I recently relocated to downtown Los Angeles and am constantly told by men and women of all ages that I look like I'm in my late thirties or around 40 at most, while NOT wearing make-up ('m an AARP member and always have to show my driver license to prove my age!). At 5ft. 8", with shoulder length hair that's barely streaked with gray in the back, I'm still the same size 4 to 6 from my teens, college and twenties part-time modeling "for fun" days. I presently see many attractive mature models in magazines that cater to mature adults, admittedly more for products rather than editorial. Many fashion shows featuring (very gorgeous) senior, and dare I say it-gray-haired models (gasp!), are in upscale, retirement areas like Sarasota where I used to live or I imagine, in the one here in Southern CA (Laguna Woods). I'm open to (and am experienced in) department store print, hair product print, runway, trade show, and tea room, garment district showroom, cruise ship and department store fashion modeling. I would like to also do catalog and travel brochure work that caters to the mature woman for publications such as such as Appleseed's or the Tog Shop, Silversea, Seabourn, or Cunard Line luxury cruise brochures, or for magazines like More or Senior Life or even the AARP magazine. The mature market is vibrant and fashionable! Baby boomer women have plenty of disposable income. We are very interested in companies, designers, stores, cultural venues, cruise lines, resorts, magazines, etc. that are interested in the upscale, fashionable mature market. We will respond favorably to ads featuring age appropriate models such as for beauty firms anti-aging creams and hair coloring products, or cruse line and resort vacations or designer cruise and evening wear. Our market is definitely not just about insurance, medical alert and denture products. It would be very helpful to know the following: -Which agencies or agents do these companies work with to secure their models from? -How do I best approach them? -Do any of the agencies/agents hold open calls? -Do seperate agencies exist for Los Angeles Fashion District modeling (Fashion week and showroom) and trade show modeling? -Does a book, trade paper, newsletter or service organization exist with information on opportunities for mature models and feeback from mature models consistently working? -Do any agencies/casting agents accept unsolicited mailings? -Are e-mailed photos preferred over hard copy mailings? -Do I need to have my own website, blog and/or social media page(s)? -Do I need to join the Screen Extras Guild and AFTRA in oder to be eligible for jobs in videos, commercials, training films or other films? It is August. So, Fred Flintstone got beaten to a bloody pulp. He was sent to the nearest medical facility. D-Generation X (Typhlosion & Tyranitar) have not been seen after the assault. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa beomes General Manager of SmackDown, plus the temporary Principal of the Wrestling Academy, covering for Fred. He announces that he is making a "King of the Los Angeles Wresling Academy" Tournament, in which both RAW and SmackDown are involved. He also says that he might be replacing the Superintendant of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Ramon Cortines, the current Superintendant, comes out, and says "You traitor. You've betrayed me for one reason: to make sure I get kicked out of Los Angeles? That's not going to happen. I am going to make sure...." Villaraigosa interrupts him. "You are going to make sure what?" asked the Mayor. "Make sure you get rid of the Los Angeles Wrestling Academy? I think you've forgotten who has been calling the shots around here. It is still ME!!! I call the shots in this city. I am the main head-honcho around here, and I can do whatever the HELL I want to LAUSD. Now, I suggest you and your security guards get out of here this instant, or else, you are going to be dethroned!!!" Cortines leaves, but comes back later on. The Matches: The Sprouse Twins defeat Jason Earles & Moises Arias Yugi Muto def. Braison Cyrus Carlos Rodriguez & Francisco Flores def. Team Rocket Misty Flintstone defeats Demi Lovato in a "You're Expelled" Match; Lovato leaves the Wrestling Academy Miley Cyrus & Ash Ketchum (as hells for the first time) def. three of Cortines's guards Emily Osment def. Selena Gomez Kevin Barrette def. Jason Dolley in a Street Fight Villaraigosa calls someone and says, "You better get here right now because this is going to be a huge war." He hangs up. (Main Event) T.k. Takaishi defeated Davis Mutomiya by DQ. That's when Cortines and 2-3 of his goons return to attack T.K., and probably end his career. They unite with the Dark Society (Mutomiya, Jetta Handover, Carlos Ramon, Sakura, Flamedramon, and Machamp) to beat the daylights out of T.K. (T.K. resembles what happened to Fred at Belmont High School in April). Cortines says, "You want to interfere in my rivalry? Do you want to get beaten down to a bloody pulp? You are going to die!!!!!!!!!!" A familiar sound that hasn't been heard in four months, plays. D-Generation X (Fred, Typhlosion, & Tyranitar) returned to the Wrestling Academy to save T.K., and in the process, since Cortines and his goons beat Fred up so bad the last time, DX brought a new member with them. The new member (Ampharos) beat the daylights out of Cortines's goons and the DS Party with Thunder. Cortines was surrounded by all of the Los Angeles Wrestling Aacdemy Superstars and went back into the ring. Fred started beating the living daylights out of Cortines, so Cortines would pay for what he did to Flintstone on that April Afternoon. He took out four months of frustration out on his arch nemesis. Then, with all four members of DX in the ring, he said, "I'M BACK!!!!!!!!! I guess you bforgot about me, didn't you?" He drops the mic and kicks Cortines across the skull. That ends the war between LAUSD and the Los Angeles Wrestling Academy, with a victory from Fred. more

This is how it all starts: The Los Angeles Wrestling Academy goes LIVE at Belmont High School in Los Angeles, California. There are rumors going around that Yugi Muto & Emily Osment weren't going to show up to Belmont because LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines is going to show up and pull the plug on the Wrestling Academy. The Wrestling Academy Champion T.K. Takaishi goes out to the ring, and says: "The Big Bad Wolf (Cortines) is around here somewhere." Cortines comes out, says "This Los Angeles Wrestling Academy is banned from the Los Angeles Unified School District!!!! I want all of you pests out of here in the next twenty seconds, or else, I will destroy the Principal of Belmont Senior High School!!!!" The fans boo to the top of their lungs. T.K. says, "You have to grow up. You do not call the shots at Belmont today. The Wrestling Academy does. So, get out of this ring, or else, I will call a native Angeleno to get you out of here, and as far awa from the arena as possible!" The fans go wild, meanwhile the World Heavyweight Champion Fred Flintstone comes out to the ring. Fred says, "I beleive somebody is being an intruder in this arena. And I made it clear that the Los Angeles Unified School District was not to come anywhere near a Los Angeles Wrestling Academy superstar, as long as one of my children-in-law is one of the major World Champions in the Wrestling Academy. Well, since he's out here, ...." Cortines gets mad as hell. "You're going to pay the ultimate price, Flintstone. YOU'RE GOING TO PAY FOR THIS!!! YOU'RE FIRED FROM THE LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT!!!!!! YOU AND YOSHINOBU ARE FIRED!!!!!!!' "Wow, boss, you look like you want to give birth to World War III," said Fred. "You want me to get you the Hell out of Belmont, in a straight jacket?" Cortines punches Fred, then says "YOU AND ME FOR THE LOS ANGELES WRESTLING ACADEMY, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!" T.K. hits Cortines with the Wrestling Academy Championship across the skull. Miley Cyrus defeats Selena Gomez, Moises Arias and Jason Earles become the Unified Boys Tag Team Champions by defeating Dylan & Cole Sprouse. Edge and The Undertaker beat up some of Cortines's goons at the TV Production area at 2nd/Loma for trying to stop the show with Cortines's written permission. Yugi and Emily do indeed show up, defeat the World Tag Team Champions Ruthie Camden & T-Bone, then leave the arena in Yugi's 2010 Wrstling Academy Rottweiler (Toyota Camry). The rest of the Kamiya Nation (Tai Kamiya, Sora Takenouchi, Kari Kamiya, WarGerymon, Angewomon, and MagnaAngemon) beat up 20 of Cortines's goons (50 total) in the Parking Lot. Typhlosion & Tyranitar (D-Generation X) defeat 10 of Cortines's goons by count-out, since they got "fired" by Typhlosion. Fred is backstage with Evolution (Ash Ketchum, Misty Flintstone, Carlos & Jasmine Rodriguez, Francisco Flores, Sarah, and Blastoise), watching the show in the GM's Office, when The Dark Society (Davis Mutomiya, Carlos Ramon, Sakura, Flamedramon, Machamp, and Jetta Handover) come in. Davis Says, "You're going to get it, Fred. You're in the last minutes of your, sick, ridden, pathetic and useless career!" The Great Khali comes in. Fred makes Khali vs. The Dark Society before leaving the office, and Khali got his way with TDS by teaming up with Undertaker's brother, Kane, and John Cena. Fred's geared up for his Championship match against Cortines, and goes out to the arena...but can't get out of his locker room. There's a crane blocking the door. Then, he gets jumped by three of Cortines's goons. One of the goons calls one that put the crane on the doorway in the first place to get it out of the way, so they could feed Fred's already-bloodied-beaten-lifeless body to Cortines (already in the ring). Evolution saw everything over the TV in the GM's Office. And they're also locked in the office. Another crane was installed at the General Manager's Office door. She calls Tony Chimel and tells Chimel that the match is called off. World Wrestling Entertainment Rule 15 states that if a superstar that is champion in the Los Angeles Wrestling Academy is attacked in the backstage area, that their match will no longer take place. Chimel announces that the match will no longer take place. The fans boo so loud that the goons that Cortines sent out to Fred's locker, beat Fred up even more, before Cortines can beat him up even more. DX comes out and save their master from an even more brutal, fatal beatdown. They scare Cortines and his goons away. The show goes off the air. Fred is taken to the nearest medical facility by Evolution in an ambulance. more

Resolved Question: How strict are airline check baggage requirements?

I'm going on a trip from Fargo, ND to Los Angeles in a couple weeks and recently purchased a suitcase... the tag on the bag said it measures 29 x 11.5 x 20 inches, for a total of 60.5". I thought "great!" and bought the bag... Now when i get it home i measured it and realized it's more like 30 x 13 x 20 = 63. this exceeds the linear footage for most airline requirements (62"). Me question is, will the airline really pull out a tape measurer and charge me for the extra inch? i'm only 18 so i can't really afford to have that happen! packed, my bag is well under the 50lb limit so no need to worry about that! more

Los Angeles Times: German astronomers using a U.S. telescope have provided scientists with at least a partial answer to a vexing question: What is the origin of the so-called Type 1a supernovae, which are widely used as celestial mileage markers? Type 1a supernovae are of special significance to astronomers because all are believed to have essentially the same intrinsic brightness, and because they can be observed from great distances. Thus, by comparing the brightness of any one of them to what it is expected to be, researchers can estimate its distance from Earth and thereby judge the distance of objects near it. Only a decade ago, astronomers used the supernovae to show that the expansion of the universe is accelerating, presumably due to the influence of so-called dark energy. A Type 1a supernova is created when a white dwarf, the remnant of an old star, accumulates sufficient mass to become unstable and explodes. But the cause of that accumulation has not been well-understood. One school of thought suggests that the white dwarf sucks in mass from a companion star until it reaches a mass about 1.4 times that of the sun, at which point it explodes. The second theory is that the supernova results from the collision of two white dwarfs. Astronomers Marat Gilfanov and Akos Bogdan of the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching report in Thursday’s issue of the journal Nature that, at least in some galaxies, most of the supernovae are created by collisions. "The supernovae in the galaxies we studied almost all come from two white dwarfs merging," Gilfanov said in a Wednesday teleconference. The results are somewhat surprising because astronomers were not sure there were enough white dwarfs to account for the number of supernovae that have been observed. But experts noted that white dwarfs are very difficult to detect. To distinguish between the two possible scenarios, Gilfanov and Bogdan relied on the idea that, if a white dwarf were accreting matter from a nearby star, it should release tremendous amounts of X-ray energy as the gas from the star reached its surface. The pair used NASA's orbiting Chandra X-Ray Observatory to observe five nearby elliptical galaxies and the core region of the Andromeda galaxy. The elliptical galaxies were chosen because they have less dust that could interfere with the measurements. The two researchers found that the galaxies emitted only 2% to 3% as much X-ray energy as they would if the dwarfs were accreting matter from nearby stars. They thus concluded that collisions were the most likely source of the supernovae. Gilfanov and Bogdan are looking at other types of galaxies to determine if the finding holds true there. Considering both riots started due to white police being rough with blacks who were driving under the influence, its in my mind at least a very poor reflection on black people in LA. I mean the fact that they riot because they are denied the privelage to drive under the influence is a very pathetic reason to riot indeed. I ask this simply as Ive read on other riots, the beating of black pregnant women, the murder of Malcolm X, and the killing of Cab Drivers are all semi-justifiable but rioting for not being able to drive drunk certainly makes the least sense and is the poorest reflection on a community in my mind.the murder of martin luther king jr ratheralso youve never seen any other ethnic group in america in another city riot because they couldn't drive drunk, i bet if rodney king were driving in a black neighborhood and killed a black kid when driving drunk, black people would have loved the police video of him being beaten more

Obviously, these kids are U.S. citizens and that's fine. But when you look at it, these parents should have never been here in the first place." Raymond Herrera, founder and president of We The People California's Crusader, said: "The American people are fed up with illegal aliens depleting our tax dollars by overrunning our schools, our hospitals and our welfare system." While $64 million more than the county can afford particularly during the current deep recession, it is but a drop in the bucket, when you consider what the entire state of California is paying-out to ‘anchor babies’ and their illegal alien parents. In August 2009, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich made public the staggering amount which the taxpayers spend on illegal aliens, living in L.A. County. Last June alone, the county paid out $48 million to the children of illegal aliens, an increase of $10 million over June 2007. $26 million of that total came in the form of food stamps, while another $22 million was given to the illegal alien families in welfare checks. Assuming that June was a typical month for 2009, Los Angeles County spent nearly $600 million on those two programs last year alone. That is in addition to the more than $1 billion that the county spends annually on the medical treatment, education, emergency services, and incarceration of illegal aliens. These figures explain why not only L.A. County, but the entire state of California are now in financial ruin. Supervisor Michael Antonovich told reporters that illegal aliens continue to have a “catastrophic impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers.” In 2003, the American Southwest saw 77 hospitals enter bankruptcy due to unpaid medical bills incurred by illegal aliens. A staggering 84 hospitals in California alone, have been forced to close their doors because of the growing crisis. Hospitals which manage to remain open, pass the unpaid costs onto the rest of us, which translates into more out-of-pocket expenses and higher insurance premiums for Americans. With rising unemployment, huge trade deficits due to the loss of our manufacturing base, and a soaring national debt, we simply cannot afford to pay the bills for this nation’s illegal alien population. We can no longer accept elected representatives who choose to better represent a foreign national population, rather than those of us who actually pay their salaries. Resolved Question: My dog is sick and suddenly can't jump...any idea what's wrong?

Yesterday my dog Soda woke me up at 5am. He was crying on the floor begging to be lifted onto the bed. My spidey senses went off! My dog is the most playful and hyper dog ever. So when I realized he could not jump on the bed I knew something was wrong. I lifted him onto the bed and he was shaking. He literally could not stay still (kinda how we toss and turn when we are in pain) and he would cry softly. So i took him to the vet 3 hours later. The vet checked his whole body bone-by-bone...from face to tail...but he did not cry. We figured it was his usual stomach problems and we were given tummy medicine. Well it's not stomach issues for sure, cos he eats his food, treats, and water, and has not thrown up. He had the same problem again and woke us up the same exact way at 6am. What could be wrong? I,m worried : ( I love him. I'm taking him back to the vet tomorrow for x-rays and blood work. His symptoms: Cant jump up shakes cries and hides tosses and turns needs to be lifted onto bed lethargic soft stool (normal color tho) ears back and tail b/w his legs ALSO, besides touching all over his body, the doctor checked inside his anus with her finger (poor thing) What do you guys think? im from corona and me and my boyfriend LOVE going out to new places weve been going to l.a alot. the observatory.. the museum of jurassic tech. aroma cafe *delicious* the pavillion... and... hollywood? idk.. im 18 and hes 21.. and tomarow we want to spend all day out there. is there any way possible to get some good reviews? more entertainment type stuff... museums i suppose... tell me about the getty???? or... museum of tolerance? or any other small places that have a big impact. or..just somewere fun and cheap pleasee. i owe youu. x.o.x.o more

Kevin Barrette won his match versus Zane, but unsuccesful against T.K. After the match, Davis Mutomiya, Flamedramon, and Carlos Ramón attacked the newly crowned champion, but got suddenly stopped by Dylan and Cole Sprouse. I have talked to post office and also searched on line. It seems to me no one offers services by sea except freight forwarders. But freight forwarders has too many misc charges. Post offices in most countries have mailing by sea. Not USA. That means no options here? more
