Low And Luxury Cruises Questions asked
Resolved Question: I need a career counselor!?
After a long time of being stressed out about what I wanted to do with my life Im feeling inspired to go back into college (after learning to drive, getting a full time job and having a bit of saving in the bank). The thing is after I left school (15) I went to college to do hair and beauty and my dreams were to leave with distinctions then go to America to study Cosmetology (and learn massage, reflexology and aromatherapy, indian head massage etc) and then work on a cruise ship (so that I can travel on the job), then work as a make up artist on film sets, then opening up my own luxury spa/ hairdressing/ make up salon and making my own hair/ beauty treatments while taking on apprenticeships.
But I had so much low self confidence because there were so many shallow bitches on my course so I ended up leaving with no qualifications and was adamant I would never return (even though the course teacher persuaded me to in a years time) Also I had a LOT of personal problems.
That happened four years ago now but in that time I gained qualifications in Health and Social care (as I was determined not to let anything get in my way this time around). After that I did a short course in admin but I didn't enjoy it, then went into business and management but didn't stay on the course as I had been doing another course - psychology, (a year program to get you straight into that course in any University in the country) at the beginning of that year.
Now (getting to the point) I have an interest in all of these subjects - Hair and beauty / massage/ holistic therapies, psychology, management.
I was thinking that I should work full time at the moment, concentrate on learning to drive, then do the part time (2 nights a week/ 2 yrs) psychology course, then go into a local university. Then when I feel like it after I have settled (college gives you a grant if you have worked and lived without your parents for 3+ years) or when the recession is over do hair and beauty, so on and so forth, also do a course in salon management)...
What do you think? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated...Also I am quite artistic but also enjoy doing lots of paper work...
moreResolved Question: WHAT IF KEITH OLBERMANN INTERVIEWED JOHN MCCAIN? ...?
Here's one take...
“A FEW GOOD, ALMOST LUCID, MOMENTS”
(With apologies to Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise)
JOHN MCCAIN: You want answers?
KEITH OLBERMANN: I think I'm entitled to them.
JOHN MCCAIN: You want answers?
KEITH OLBERMANN: I want the truth!
JOHN MCCAIN: You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has a certain, precious amount of wealthy people. And those wealthy people have the right to protect what they have, any way they can. If they don’t do it, who's gonna do it?
You? You, Keith Olbermann? I, as their candidate, have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for those lower and middle classes and you curse the people who give them jobs. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that all those unemployed, underemployed and soon-to-be-unemployed people, while tragic, probably didn’t work very hard anyway. (Look at how little they earned compared to CEOs' salaries and their well-deserved golden parachutes!!!) And the existence of trickle down Republican economics, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, is what has raised that free market tide so that all boats, big and small, could float...You don't want the truth.
Because deep down, in places you don't talk about these facts, like with your friends at Georgetown parties, you want me on call. You need me on call at three in the morning.
We use phrases like “loose regulations, squishy credit lines and a warm place to count the profits” ...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending our captains of industry. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who still rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very economic bubble I helped George Bush to provide, then questions the manner in which we provided it!
I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you grow some patriotic gonads and eschew socialism. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!
KEITH OLBERMANN: Did you support George Bush and all his works?
JOHN MCCAIN: (quietly) I did the job that the Republican Party sent me to do.
KEITH OLBERMANN: Did you support George Bush and his economic policies?
JOHN MCCAIN: You're goddamn right I did!!!
moreResolved Question: Can my boss dictate to me what personal car to own?
I have a new boss who came from Europe. This morning he sent out an office wide memo stating that he will be reviewing each employee to make sure that the vehicle owned matches the position. If anyone owns a vehicle that is better than their position then they will have to trade it in for the proper vehicle or be fired. He said he requires this because that's the way it is where he came from and the way it needs to be in this country (USA). He says it is offensive and obscene to see low level workers driving around in classy cars that should only be driven by managers, doctors, or lawyers.
Example he used..."(my name) is the receptionist and should only be permitted to own a basic bare bones econo car, NOT the fancy Mercedes out there in the parking lot." To him a bare bones econo car is an old used clunker car with NO luxury items...no A/C, power windows/locks, power brakes/steering, cruise, radio, CD player, or automatic tranny.
Well, I have a slight problem with that because I'm the receptionist he's referring to. The Mercedes is a 2 year old 200 series purchased new. The loan will be paid in full this September. I love the car and really do not want to trade it in for anything else. Several other co-workers have similar concerns. I considered looking for employment elsewhere because of this, but the job market is too scarce right now. Can the boss legally force us to replace our own personal vehicles?
btw...I didn't do anything illegal or immoral to purchase the Mercedes. My parents offered to pay 1/2 if I worked at their dealership at min wage for the spring and summer months until I found permanent employment. Now I work for a large engineering firm making more than enough money to afford the car + everything else.It looks like I'm off the hook! HR sent out a rebuttal memo temporarily cancelling his authority until they meet with him to review what is proper.I only put the comments about how I purchased the car b/c receptionists don't normally earn enough $$ to buy and maintain a Mercedes.
