History Of Maryland Questions asked

Open Question: Are people in Philadephia STILL SNOWED IN?

The storm is over and been over for a day already. NY barely got anything! How did Philly reach over 70 inches already (its only february)? While NY didnt even reach 20 for the season? Was this event like a once in 5000 year event? Was this that rare and incredible? Not only was the season snowfall record broken but you got over 40 inches within a few days. In the entire history of weather records (well over 100 years) theres never even been 30 inches in an ENTIRE MONTH!!! Thats CRAZY!! How much snow is on the ground there? Do you think you will ever see something this significant ever again? Should the city there and DC and Maryland spend much more money on snow removal next year. Is this like a once in a 1000 year event? more

Open Question: Why did RSS and Sewa Bharati humiliate India like this?

RSS and its domestic arm Sewaa Bharati, its international arms Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, Seva International collected funds in UK the name of humanitarian causes such as Gujarat Earthquate amounting to 4.2 million USD or over 2 million GBP without disclosing that HSS is arm of RSS, and Seva International is not registered in UK. They use this fund in India in glorifying RSS, promoting RSS in India and spreading communal violence. Not I am saying so, investigations conducted in United Kingdom says so. Lord Adam Patel, member of the House of Lords and patron of Sewa International, resigned from his latter affiliation after learning of the group's links to RSS. Speaking at the release of the report in the House of Lords on February 26, 2004 Lord Patel said that Sewa International had "cheated me and cheated the residents of the UK". When London-based Charity Commission was investigating the HSS and Sewa International, and wanted to visit India for investigation, then NDA headed Indian government denied visas to investigators from the commission under pressure from RSS. The report links the HSS, Sewa International and the Kalyan Ashram Trust to RSS-sponsored violence in India, "Although we cannot say pounds collected here were used to buy guns in India, we can say with confidence that the money was used to build hatred against a minority. Most donors would be horrified if they knew the nature, history and ideas of the RSS." The money donated by UK Citizens for Charity to these organizations was used to build dedication plaque glorifying the RSS and its founder in the village of the village of Chapredi, build temples, but no mosques or churches, though many of these were destroyed in the earthquake. As per the report, some funds meant for earthquake reconstruction were also allegedly channeled to the RSS's Lok Kalyan Samiti in Chanasma village, which has been directly implicated in the violent "cleansing" of all Muslims from the village and the illegal occupation of premises and land belonging to the statutory Muslim Waqf board. Another RSS project, Jankalyan Samiti, was allegedly the recipient of Sewa International (UK) earthquake funds. The Samiti's Maharashtra branch has been involved in violence against Christians. The report makes a pointed reference to the fact that despite these charities' claims of being non-sectarian and non-discriminatory, Sewa International (UK), the HSS (UK) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP - World Hindu Forum) did not launch any humanitarian appeals following the Gujarat violence in 2002. The majority of victims of that tragedy were Muslims. In 2002, the Financial Times reported a similar story. The Madhya Pradesh government has revoked Sewa Bharti's license because of its alleged involvement in violence against Christians. The Awaaz report claims a large proportion of the $484,000 raised by Sewa International for Orissa cyclone relief in 1999 enabled the expansion of major RSS affiliates. "Funds were used for building RSS schools. The RSS and its leaders were glorified. The HSS said Orissa cyclone funds would be channeled through RSS volunteers and given to organizations which get their work force from the RSS The UK report echoes findings by US-based groups in November 2002. The Campaign to Stop Funding Hate (CSFH) put out an exhaustive document linking a Maryland-based charity, the India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), to the RSS. The authors of that report, "The Foreign Exchange of Hate", alleged IDRF was sending money to organizations implicated in violence against Christians and Muslims in India. We all know well that RSS is a blot of Hinduism why is it insulting India and Indians in International community? After cheating Indians all thease years, why is it cheating residents of US and UK and other countries now? http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/FC03Df03.html http://www.thehindu.com/fline/fl2108/stories/20040423003504300.htm Report Name: "In Bad Faith? British Charity and Hindu Extremism",Amazing, Suresh Grover, the only name mentioned in the entire article from Awaaz who is the board member of Awaaz sounds like a Gujarati Muslim to some literate RSS friends. If someone is confused with the Awaaz magazine I can't help them.Raj Kish, Disagreements do not affect friendship, take my words from my side. In all the events that you mentioned, no political organization went and begged in to foreign nationals to help poor Indian citizens and used that money for their political ambitions. And another thing, here the the question is about RSS and its arms misusing donations that they begged on the name of poor Indians, and humiliated India, no one else and nothing else.Additional Links added how Vajapayee government had protected HSS from UK investigators: http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2004/feb/27/charities.charitymanagement1 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/3488346.stmA very bad attempt to defend RSS and Sewa bharati. Now RSS supporters are denouncing and disowning HSS and Sewa International. Before I comment on that, is anyone else has such funny thoughts?LOOKS LIKE NO ONE HAS ANSWER TO MY QUESTION. Some are making personal comments that should be reported, but I have lot tolerances so I am blocking them rather then reporting them, others are talking irrelevant. As I answered Raj Kish, here the question is NOT ABOUT SCAMS ABOUT POLITICIANS ABOUT THAT I ALREADY DISCUSSED ENOUGH AND COMFORTABLY PROVED THAT NO PARTY IS BEHIND IN THAT. Here the question is about so called organizations going abroad, begging on the name of Hinduism and India and humiliating India and then defaming India and Hinduism. And not to worry, I will keep this question open for as much time as Yahoo permits to give you enough time to do research and answer. Hopefully I will find a single user to have few words to answer sensibly. And not to mention, this is just the first question, wait for other such uncomfortable questions and be prepared to be uncomfortable like this more and more. One of the 15 years Sewa Bharati activist has tried to defend RSS with a broken link LOLAnd even with the broking details and copy paste details, the contents does not say the HSS was cleared. Rather it says, that Charity Commission was not able to complete its investigations because NDA GOVERNMENTS DID NOT GRANT CHARITY COMMISSION VISA TO INVESTIGATE. Further, Charity commission has added several advisory and regulations to HSS and Sewa international. I don't know how Sewa Bharati activists claim it as clean chit. Nice try to defend the financial scam accused tainted organizations like RSS, HSS, Sewa Bharat, Sewa internation etc who humiliated India and Hinduism abroad by begging on the the name of poor earthquake victims and misused the funds.RSS Warrior, If you have any points to answer my question do so, else don't waste YA space and bandwidth with RSS mahimamndan that I have answered you 100 times in several answers. And I am in no mood to answer you once again."MISS" Pradiator, I know very well what am I asking and I know why am I asking, and I have all valid reasons for asking. I know it makes all RSS supporters very uncomfortable. To all, this is very funny, something is posted claiming that it is from "Charity Commission of UK" by a person who claims to a "Sewa Bharati" activist for last 15 years, and expects me to believe the claims. And to prove the claim a link is posted pointing to "Charity Commission of UK" which is broken. I searched entire site, and I could not find an instance of any such report. Why are people trying to mislead me?RSS Warrior, long story short, are you saying that HSS used the donation for RSS? your entire answer is saying so and that is was the report say. So how are you trying to defend these so called uncharitable organizations? more

Voting Question: Should convicted rapists be allowed to live in a halfway house for recovering addicts?

A close male member of my immediate family currently lives in a halfway house, after completing a 28-day drug addiction in-patient treatment program. He has lived in the house, which holds a maximum of 13 men, for 5 months now, and will have completed the 6 month program very soon. It is important to him for personal and legal reasons that he stay living in the house until he completes the program. He is serious about his recovery, and has been working hard to change his old behaviors, ways of thinking, and coping mechanisms. He does everything he is supposed to do, including regularly attending NA meetings, keeping with the house rules, and being open about his thoughts, feelings, fears, etc. All in all, he is really on the right path for lifelong recovery. Recently a man in his late 40's moved into the house. We will call him "James." Shortly after James moved into the house, another resident was checking the Maryland sex offender registry, out of curiosity, to see how many sex offenders were living close by. He then made the shocking discovery that James was registered. He wasn't extremely troubled until he read the details. James is registered as a "Sexually Violent Offender" and his charge is listed as Rape: 2nd Degree. My relative and I looked up James on the Maryland Judiciary Case Search for more detail on his charges. This is what we found: (Each line is a separate case) non-sexual offenses: BURGLARY-FOURTH DEGREE Unauthorized Use Of Boat TRESPASS:PRIVATE PROPERTY TELEPHNE: CALL REPEAT/ABUSE/HARASS ALC. BEV./INTOX:ENDANGER + DIS COND-PUBLIC PLACE DEADLY WEAPON-CONCEAL ASSAULT W/INTENT MAIM ETC + BATTERY + DEADLY WEAPON - CONCEAL ****** all one case: RAPE FIRST DEGREE - RAPE SECOND DEGREE - SEX OFFENSE THIRD DEGREE - BURGLARY-FIRST DEGREE - SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT - THEFT:PLUS $300 - CAR THEFT - RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT ***** another rape case, very similar: RAPE FIRST DEGREE + RAPE SECOND DEGREE + ASSAULT-FIRST DEGREE + ASSAULT-SEC DEGREE + SEX OFFENSE FIRST DEGREE + SEX OFFENSE SECOND DEGREE + SEX OFFENSE THIRD DEGREE + SEX OFFENSE FOURTH DEGREE + BURGLARY-FIRST DEGREE + BURGLARY-THIRD DEGREE + THEFT: $300 PLUS VALUE + MOTOR VEH/UNLAWFUL TAKING ... do we see a pattern here? (BTW - This guy only spent 18 years behind bars total.) Anyhow, back to the point.. many other residents are concerned (to say the least) about having him live with them. A few of the guys expressed their feelings to the house manager, and all he had to say was "everyone deserves a second chance. There's nothing I can do about it." He hardly even showed them any inkling of caring about how THEY felt, the MAJORITY of the residents who are seeking recovery. I asked my relative to bring me a copy of the handbook for the halfway house, and this is what I found: 10. The following persons will be denied admission to the halfway house: ... c. Persons who have a history of violent and assaultive behavior even when not under the influence of alcohol or dugs; d. Persons who are suicidal, arsonists, or rapists; ... g. Persons who are being released from prisons. Well, obviously James falls under at least person's listed in "d" and "c." We are currently waiting for a call back from the Executive Director of the rehab center that is in charge of the halfway house. My questions are.. do you think James should be allowed to live there, even if it wasn't stated clearly in the handbook that he shouldn't be admitted? Do you think the quoted section of the handbook implies that the residents currently living in the house will be protected from people with a history such as James'? And last but not least if, after speaking to the Executive Director, if James is not removed from the house, is there anything that can be done further to get him out of there? I appreciate any help or suggestions we can get with this matter. Thanks.I want to add that most of the men living in the house have wives and children. My relative has a wife (who is a rape survivor), and 2 daughters from a previous relationship ages 9 and 12. Therefore, he and most of the other men in the house obviously have to struggle daily with being face to face with this person, and their feelings of wanting to basically rip this guys _____ off, only making the situation that much worse. And please feel free to share any feelings or opinions you personally have about this situation. more

Resolved Question: Slavery: Native, then Irish/Scottish, then African. Who disagrees?

Short history lesson_______ 1) The British founded colonies in Virginia, Maryland, and the Caribbean and enslaved the Native Americans, they died from diseases. 2) Britain was at war with the Irish and the Scottish, so they decided to enslave them *** (NOT INDENTURED SERVITUDE!! SLAVERY!! MEANING BY FORCE, they were bought and sold) The Irish population fell from 9 million to bottom out at less than 3 million http://www.raceandhistory.com/cgi-bin/forum/webbbs_config.pl/noframes/read/1638 3) The British found a bigger cash cow in African the started enslaving Africans. 4) The British then offered the Irish and Scottish Indentured servitude (slavery for Christians became illegal, most were Catholic). Some returned to Europe, some stayed, some became abolitionist, some worked as overseers (who knows a slave better than a slave, the English thought it out well ). This is fact, I don't know why they only teach this in the Caribbean and not in the US also. Before you doubt read the link: http://www.raceandhistory.com/cgi-bin/forum/webbbs_config.pl/noframes/read/1638 http://innercity.org/holt/slavechron.htmlLil Tamika RIF please read the link.Gatr not all of the Scottish, mainly the Catholics.Neo Draven, you seem to have a good head on your solders. I am the product of slaves from African, Irish, Scottish, Chinese, Native, and Indian decent. and most to all of my ancestor were slaves (except for the Indian They were indentured servants). But I make no excuses. more

Resolved Question: Who's REALLY in control of everything? Some would say God doesn't exist, or He's dead? Can this be so?

The Scriptures say about The Father: "Not two sparrows fall to ground WITHOUT The Father knowing it", and "Mine is the Mountain, and the goat over it". These are facts of History. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Lincoln was shot at the theatre named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln'.... made by 'Ford.' Lincoln was shot in a theatre and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theatre. Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland A week before Kennedy was shot, he was sleeping with Marilyn Monroe. But - of course - these are just...coincidences, right? more

Resolved Question: I paid hospital bill and provided proof, now they sent it to collection agency. What is my legal recourse?

My daughter went to the hospital about six months ago and there was a small bill associated with the visit. It was for $24.63. I promptly paid the bill with online bill pay. They send me a reminder notice a month later. I contacted them and provided proof of paying the amount due, on time. They said they would correct and note the payment on my account. I received a bill the next month also. I contacted them again. Again, they said they would note the payment. The 3rd month, I starting receiving nasty letters. I called again and spoke with someone yet again. They apologized and said the payment was noted in the system and they would take care of things once and for all. Today (3 weeks later), now I get a collection letter and invoice from a collections agency saying that they are trying to collect this debt. My credit is absolutely perfect. What is my legal recourse if they mark my perfect credit history with this? (In Maryland) more

Resolved Question: How important is class rigor vs. GPA?

I'm a sophomore in high school and am starting to explore different colleges and what classes I need to be taking. Last year I had a 4.0 with 2 honors classes. This year I am taking 4 honors classes (all honors except world history) and have all A's for now, but I might end up with a B on this semester's report card. These are the colleges I am interested in: Penn State (Main Campus), Univ. of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Univ. of Maryland, George Mason Do these colleges look more at your overall GPA or the rigor of classes? BTW, I know I want to go into the medical field, so should I focus more on being in rigorous math and science classes than English and history? Or would colleges like UVA look down on not being in honors/AP English and history classes? more

Voting Question: The rigorousness of bioengineering?

Hello all, I'm a senior in high school this year with the conviction to attend University of Maryland and eventually become a dentist. I'm thinking about the bioengineering major. My cousin, who has a biology major, advised against majoring in biology - as it was and is over saturated with aspiring pre-health students aiming to score easy GPA's while taking the "expected" major path. He advised that I separate myself from the massive pre-health pool by majoring in something a bit more varied: he stressed chemistry and bioengineering/biomedengineering. While biology interests me wildly, I do find myself gravitating toward bioengineering - its a mathy, sciency, technologically bundle of fun. My first priority is obviously to maintain a healthy GPA and (eventually) DAT score. I have heard many a horror story (from my own dad included, who is a chemical engineer) involving any engineering courses/majors being devilishly unforgiving and very hard on the GPA figure. This is obviously something I want to avoid, and I came here looking to see if any of you gentlemen/women could shed some light on my trepidation. Does bioengineering help me single myself out from the rest of the (future) dental applicant pool? Would it generally be better for me to generally avoid bioengineering because of the future detriment it may pose to my GPA? Im a straight A student, and scored a 29 on my ACT with 4's on my three AP tests (albeit they were history's and a language course) and im taking AP-level Biology now, and acing it. Thanks for any help you guys have for me. more
