Maryland Counties Questions asked

Open Question: What do you think about increasing trend of "police state" in Western Democracy?

http://reason.com/archives/2010/03/01/45… (to see the article, click "Answer", the link will be highlight, click on the link) Excerpt from this article: "...Over the last six months of 2009, SWAT teams were deployed 804 times in the state of Maryland, or about 4.5 times per day. In Prince George's County alone, with its 850,000 residents, a SWAT team was deployed about once per day. According to a Baltimore Sun analysis, 94 percent of the state's SWAT deployments were used to serve search or arrest warrants, leaving just 6 percent in response to the kinds of barricades, bank robberies, hostage takings, and emergency situations for which SWAT teams were originally intended. .................... These outrageous numbers should provide a long-overdue wake-up call to public officials about how far the pendulum has swung toward institutionalized police brutality against its citizens." more

Open Question: Housing for State of Maryland Employees?

I just returned to Maryland after being gone for about 7.5 years. I've been hired by the state, and I wanted to know if anyone knew of any apartment complexes that offer discounts to state employees. I'll be working in Annapolis, but I would love to live in Howard County (Columbia), where I grew up and have a brother with special needs who will need my help. Staying within close proximity to him in case there's an emergency is a must, and I don't mind a (reasonable) commute to Annapolis. Does anybody know of any rental agencies that may be able to find a safe, decent, and affordable place for a single female to live? I'm not picky about amenities, and seeing that I've just returned from Florida, as long as there's A/C, I'm cool (no pun intended). more

Resolved Question: How will amnesty for illegals help with this problem Homeless count up 25% in Balto. Co?

Baltimore County's homeless count jumped by nearly 25 percent in the past year, according to the county's annual survey of those living without a permanent home. More than a third of the 890 people counted said they were homeless for the first time. "Unemployment and eviction numbers are high and are contributing to the increases," said Sue Bull, the county's homeless coordinator. "Evictions are up by 21 percent, and loss of job contributed in 23 percent of those surveyed." County administrators and 65 volunteers conducted the annual "point-in-time" survey Jan. 28. They traveled the county to check shelters, libraries, soup kitchens and bus stops. They found homeless encampments, people living in their vehicles and 272 children living in shelters or "doubled up and couch-surfing" with family or friends, Bull said. But she knows they could not have counted everyone. Last year, the county served 5,000 residents in its various programs to assist the homeless, including 1,400 children, about 300 of whom lived in county shelters at some point last year. "With more volunteers focused on the streets, we were able cover more ground," Bull said. "But still this is like looking for a needle in a haystack. We can't get to everybody." The data they gathered will be critical to securing money from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development for transitional housing programs, outreach centers, havens from domestic violence, and shelters for families and singles. The volunteers, who promised anonymity to those surveyed, asked 15 basic questions, including how respondents became homeless, where they had slept the night before and whether they had any source of income. Of those who answered, 242 slept in a county shelter and 121 slept in a car, on the street or in the woods. More than 80 respondents said they were employed, but 340 said they had no means of support. Volunteers found 60 military veterans among the homeless. Men outnumbered women by 12 percent, and whites outnumbered blacks by 5 percent. Adults in the age group 31 to 50 made up the largest segment - 44 percent - in the survey. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-county/bal-md.co.homeless14mar14,0,2253799.story more

Voting Question: How to attend an out of district high school?

So I'm currently a freshman at a public high school in Maryland. Due to a series of medical problems, I failed school last year and I am currently failing this year as well. What should have been my junior year will be my freshman year, round three. I am not failing because of poor academic skills or low comprehension levels, I consider myself WAY above grade level and certainly above the standard they think I am. Not only am I failing, but I get bullied mercilessly. The kids who don't understand are constantly picking on me.....for never being in school. Rather than allowing me to explain why I'm absent, they spread vicious rumors. You know, high school. Not only will I have to watch ALL my friends graduate without me, I'll be 17 and in classes with 14-15 year olds. It makes me feel so stupid, even though I know I'm not. I'm leagues ahead of all my classmates and I know it. SO my question is this. Is there any way I can transfer to another area school? Theres another high school in my county, and I would have transportation there every morning. It is outside of my district but I believe it will be the fresh start I so desperately need. High school is supposed to be the time I'll look back on fondly.....not the time where I remember every single boy and girl who made me cry. And PLEASE do not say things like "Why don't you tell a teacher about the kids who are picking on you". Everyone whos ever been in my situation knows that "telling on the bad kids" only makes the whole situation worse. I'm not a snitch and it won't help. Thank you for taking the time to read and answer thisTony- Thanks for your answer. :) Unfortunately for me, both of my parents have already said that I am not allowed to get a GED. Although they've both read up on it, dropping out of school would mean the end of the child support payments we get. So thats not really an option for me. Thanks though! more

Voting Question: Is it a good thing that my parents didn't beat me or punish me for doing average in school?

Currently I am a second year student at a lower ranked university. I have a 3.9 GPA and I have been accepted to Georgetown, Boston University, University of Connecticut, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, and the University of Maryland: College Park as a transfer. I am waiting to hear from Columbia University, Cornell University and University of Pennsylvania soon. So thing is, I will be going to a better university. Now here is where the problem comes in. In high school I was the average student with average grades. I went to an academically difficult high school with not a lot of Asians (I am Asian) and the area I went to high school in (the county) in general was a very poor county and opportunities were tough to come by. Gang shootings and drug dealings were common everyday things, my parents had the money to move but they kept me at a competitive high school. Now I had many difficulties in life, learned English at the age of 12 and I had to deal with a lot of problems while in high school, people did not take kindly to Asians in the area I lived in and my grades also suffered. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA because I started out slow in high school, my parents did not discipline me and they said it is better that I make mistakes and learn from them. I did learn from them but the thing is that in a lot of Asian communities, the families actually discipline their kids and beat their kids for doing bad or below average in high school. Some of their kids end up with high GPAs, high SATs and they go off to some good colleges. I just want to know this though: Is it better that my parents didn't beat me and instead let me learn from my mistakes or would it have been better if they had beat me for doing average in high school? What happens to those kids whose parents beat them for getting bad grades? more

Voting Question: is this a good intro for a harriet tubman narritive essay?

On a dark starry night, a group of fugitive slaves slink through the forest in the South, looking out for anyone, or anything that might be waiting to capture them. Harriet Tubman was a famed slave who found her way to freedom and helped many others get there too. On a plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland, Harriet Tubman grew up with her close-knit family as a slave. Harriet Tubman’s courageous work allowed over three hundred slaves to be their own persons, and her effort in outlawing slavery affects America today. Harriet Tubman was the black leader of her times. She was a woman with great strengths and she pushed her followers to go on with her, using words such as "go on or die". any comments would be great! i can move things around but not really change the content, so thanks :) also feel free to correct me on grammar or spelling or something but im just really asking for opinions about sophistication (im in 7th grade) and content and flow more

Resolved Question: Why is Maryland the best state?

Can anyone argue why Maryland ISN'T the best state? We have the Chesapeake Bay, the best crabs, nice wakeboarding, Ocean City, 4 seasons, the Baltimore Ravens, and much more. We aren't the North or the South, for the most part have no accent, and some of the hottest girls I've ever seen. We have some of the richest counties in the US and if you aren't playing beer pong by 15 you aren't doing it right. Baltimore is THE hardest and toughest city in America and DC runs the country. Resolved Question: Why do supporters of illegals believe illegals should not be arrested in raids when found breaking the law?

police swooped down on two Maryland restaurants, taking into custody dozens of employees. Suzanne Collins reports their documentation is being checked to see if they are in this country legally. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided the Timbuktu Restaurant near BWI Airport around 10 a.m. Thursday. Records were removed from the offices, and employees were arrested. Anne Arundel County police helped. "In this case, a number of warrants were issued to the owner of the restaurant, who may have hired illegal immigrants, also the harboring of illegal immigrants in houses nearby," said John Leopold, Anne Arundel County Executive. Police activity also occurred at two homes right next to Timbuktu, but ICE wouldn't confirm what was going on there. WJZ also learned a restaurant in Middle River, By The Docks, was also the location of a search and seizure Thursday. Twenty-nine people of different nationalities were taken into custody and driven in vans to Baltimore ICE offices. CASA de Maryland, an advocacy group for Latino immigrants, says these raids are wrong. It's their belief this should be solved with national immigration reform. "I think by arresting people, they will terrorize the community, and the community would be even scared to answer a census form," said Tarsila Talarico, CASA de Maryland. ICE says it's committed to stopping illegal employment schemes utilizing illegal labor, and that businesses that do that have an unfair advantage. "There are many small businesses in this county, state, nation that play by the rules, follow labor laws. They pay taxes, and they're seriously undercut by those employers who hire illegal immigrants," said Leopold. ICE says it did not take the restaurant owners into custody, but the investigation is continuing. http://wjz.com/local/immigration.customs.enforcement.2.1554621.html Are they saying by arresting lawbreakers this will terrorize the community,is this the same as saying nobody should be arrested for any crimes , if it will terrorize the community per CASA de Maryland that even dangerous illegals should not be arrested if it will terrorize the community and dangerous illegals are free to committ and do any crime they want under the guise of if it will terrorize the community the police must not arrest the dangerous illegals but allow them to go free ? more

Voting Question: Does a jail have to notify another jail of a warrant?

If you are incarcerated in one county in Maryland and you have a warrant for another county in Maryland does the current jail you are in have to notify the other county of your warrant or will they just let you go when your time is up. A friend of mine is locked up in Baltimore city but she has a warrant for Howard County. The warrant is showing but Howard county has not acknowledged that she is in custody in the city so now since there is no official detainer on her, will the city let her walk in a few days when she is scheduled to be released or will they let Howard county know to come get her?.Thanks for all of the answers, I thought so but My friend wants to know because the jail is telling her that she will be able to go home. I too have experienced prison and have never left when I had another warrant on me but you never know with Baltimore City. They let murderers go all of the time by accident. more

Resolved Question: What do you think about pro-illegal activists referring to a group of Black anti-illegals as the "Klan"?

On February 25, 2010, the People for Change group in Prince George's County Maryland held a town hall forum to discuss the impacts of illegal immigration on local communities. Pro-Amnesty protesters disrupted parts of the meeting, going as far as comparing People for Change, a mostly Black group, to the 'Klan'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Fy3MVivLs&feature=player_embedded more

Resolved Question: Does anyone have any suggestions for an ideal rental in Hartford County, Maryland?

Husband and I are looking for rentals in Northeast MD. We found 2 town homes in Riverside and one in Bulle Rock (Havre De Grace). The rent in Bulle Rock was very cheap. All homes are 3 bd 2.5 bath. Resolved Question: How can we terminate a family member's parental rights?

My family member had multiple complaints on file with Maryland DSS in multiple counties. My family member decided to drop the children off on us without providing th bare necessity for the children. While the children were in our care DSS found them in our care and DSS rep said " that DSS could assist us in this matter". MD DSS refuse to assist us in providing basic needs for the children. Even though, we asked for assistance and they said they would help. Now the state has custody of the children and DSS is making an attempt to reunify the children with the family member. The family member has made no effort to interact with the children nor complete the necessary steps setup in the court order. The children still reside in our home bare minimum support from DSS leaving us holding the bag. We feel like we do not have a voice in this matter.. Even though, we are the ones on the front line with children's behavior problems after mentioning the name of the birth parent. At the discretion of the birth parent the children have minimal contact with him/her in the past year. Unfortunately, members of my family were aware of neglect but did not take action nor did DSS. Even though, other people reported the mistreat of the children. When I was made aware of the situation I knew this behavior and treatment of children are not acceptable. So I stepped up... What steps can we take to terminated the parental rights? Should we get an attorney? more

Voting Question: My dog got into a tussle with my other dog, a little boy was bit. What will happen?

My dogs are staying with a resident of PG County Maryland for approximately 40 days while I am staying with family. They (lab mix and terrier mix) got into a little tussle (as they do sometimes over people food, or treats) over their food, and the woman's 4 year old son was standing near by. Mia (the terrier) bit the boy in the leg. It was not vicious and was accidental though the little boy will most likely need stitches. The police are at the woman's house saying either they need to quarantine them both or I need to come get them for a few days. What will happen? Will they want to put my dogs down?***In response to Labrador*** The dog did NOT go after the boy, he got into the middle of the two while they were in their little tussle and she accidentally bit him. Her intentions were not to do so. What you're saying is that any dog that bites anyone is vicious? That's a crock of shit - pardon my french. more

Resolved Question: Dental problems (need an pro's advise)?

Hi, everyone. ^_^ I am 38 years old and I recently lost my two center lower incisors(in front) and had a partial made. I had a tongue ring since '96 and the constant impact on my lower teeth wore away the bone to almost nothing. I bit down on one tooth the wrong way and knocked it loose, resulting in a gum infection. I had the teeth pulled in january and had a partial made, and i am miserable with it. I doesn't fit right and it hurts to eat, and it's irritating the gums it come into contact with. I don't know if I can get implants because there is a lot of bone loss, it has shrunk a lot since the extraction also. What should I do? The dentist didn't tell me anything that is happening, there is also bone loss to the surrounding teeth (I am seeing cracks in the gums on my lower jaw). What should I do? I am afraid if I go ahead with the implant it might fail, but doesn't the implant prevent future bone loss? I was also looking at a maryland bridge, since it is less invasive than traditional bridge. Cost is a concern, but if I have to pay to get good results, I'm okay with that. My only concern is forking over big bucks and having it fail, then I'm back where I started, or worse. I am really distraught about this, I'm losing sleep and crying all night about it. I just don't want it getting any worse. Also, I am in orange county, california. If you can refer me somewhere, that would be helpful. The rest of my teeth and gums are healthy, and I brush and floss every day. Thanks for your help. more

Resolved Question: Government Accountability in Healthcare - Who would you sue if denied care?

BACKGROUND: Before dawn on March 16, 1975, two men broke down the back door of a three-story home in Washington, D.C. shared by three women. Upon the first call to police, officers arrived at the house, got no answer to their knocks on the door, did a quick check around, and left. When the women frantically called the police a second time, no officers were even dispatched. The attackers kidnapped, robbed, raped, and beat all three women over 14 hours. When these women later sued the city and its police for negligently failing to protect them or even to answer their second call, the court held that GOVERNMENT HAD NO DUTY to respond to their call or to protect them. (See below for case references and citations) This case is not unique, every year in the US, hundreds of civil suits are denied, dismissed, or overturned based on Stare Decisis that the government has "no affirmative duty" to protect citizens. This is due to the fact that the US Constitution does not explicitly state that protection as a Right JUST LIKE it does not name healthcare as a Right. This COMPLETELY applies to healthcare, because the same courts and same judges will handle healthcare claims citing Stare Decisis regarding government services. QUESTIONS: 1) Under a single-payer system, or even under a Government subsidized plan, when your claim is mishandled, wronfully denied, or ignored, how would you ever sue for compensation if it was needed? 2) Knowing this, do you still trust the government to be as accountable as private industry, who you almost certainly would be denied the right to sue? 3) Mhy is NO ONE asking these questions in this healthcare debate??????? These questions aren't about lawsuits or money, they are merely about accountability. Referenced Case Law: South v. Maryland, 59 U.S. 396, 15 L.Ed.433 (1856) (the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that local law-enforcement had no duty to protect individuals, but only a general duty to enforce the laws.) DeShaney v. Resolved Question: Should Maryland be reporting all illegals arrested to ICE?

Maryland does not report to ICE when illegals are arrrested for many violation including weapons violations. Should all crimes be reported to ICE, no matter the severity? What should Maryland do with these illegals? Will reporting to ICE now, help that 11 year old child? This is an East coast state, why should It even be considered a sanctuary state? Is this proof that gang violence has spread across the country? XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Suspected illegal alien gang members arrested for rape of 11-year-old girl February 25, Dave Gibson Montgomery County Police Dept.On Tuesday night, police in Montgomery County, MD arrested two men accused of raping an 11-year-old girl. Officers found the two in the apartment, where the alleged assault took place. Montgomery County police spokesman Cpl. Dan Friz told reporters: “Based on the information she provided and the location and description of the gentlemen and some of the contents in the apartment, the officers went right to the apartment, found the two guys in the apartment, locked them up.” Officers arrested Melquicide H. Sorto, 31, and Marcos R. Torres-Enriquez, 20, and charged them with second-degree rape. Both are being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $1 million bond. The victim said she first encountered the men in the afternoon, near the intersection of Piney Branch Road and Carroll Avenue when they yelled at her in Spanish. The girl, who does not speak Spanish, kept walking. Later, she was playing in a nearby park, when the two grabbed her and forced her into their apartment in the 8700 block of Carroll Avenue, where she says both men raped her. The little girl ran home and immediately told her mother. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and later released. Due to the heinous nature of the crime, police have notified Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the arrest, and are currently investigating a possible link to gang activity. Montgomery County police only report illegal aliens to the feds when they have been arrested for a very serious crime such as rape or murder. As Judicial Watch recently pointed out, illegal aliens arrested for burglary, simple assault, and most weapons violations are still not reported to ICE for deportation. Just as with any offender, bail is set for them and they are released back onto the streets to either commit more crimes in the county or to flee elsewhere. As a direct result of Maryland’s continued lax attitude toward illegal immigration, the state’s sanctuary cities, and lack of cooperation with federal authorities, violent crimes committed by illegal aliens have recently soared. Maryland is also one of a handful of states which issues driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. Additionally, the Maryland State Board of Education recently announced that they will not allow county school districts to count the number of illegal alien students registered in their respective districts. The following is a short list of some of the violent crimes recently committed by illegal aliens in Montgomery County, MD: -In July 2009, Edwin Umana, 21, was stabbed to death by seven Hispanic gang members. -In November 2008, Tai Lam, 14 was shot to death on a crowded bus by 20-year-old MS-13 member and Takoma Park resident Hector Mauricio Hernandez. Unfortunately, this killing could have been avoided if Hernandez had been reported to federal authorities a month earlier, when the illegal alien was released after being caught carrying a concealed weapon. -In October 2008, police arrested Honduran national Jose Juan Garcia-Perlera, 33, for the murder of Frances Havenstein, 63, after being linked to the crime with DNA evidence. He was also charged with several counts of robbery in a string of home invasions which targeted elderly homeowners. He always tied-up his victims, one of whom was 92-years-old. At the time of his arrest, Garcia-Perlera was living in Hyattsville, MD and working for an electrical contractor. He had been in the country illegally for six years. -In September 2008, while at a local mall, a Gaithersburg teenager was stabbed nearly 50 times by gang members Ricardo Mejia, 16, Oswaldo Michael Lainez, 16, Omar Diaz, 16, and Edgar Garcia, 15. Though he was stabbed in the heart, the teen survived the attack. All of the assailants were charged as adults with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two conspiracy charges. In April 2009, Montgomery County Police Chief J. Thomas Manger announced that criminal activity committed by illegal alien gangs MS-13 and the Latin Kings had increased significantly and accounted for the higher numbers of serious crimes such as rape, robbery, and murder. According to the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office, there are 40 more

Resolved Question: I'm trying to remember all the Republican sex scandals of 2009. Any missing?

Mike Duvall, Republican politician who resigned after his sex comments were broadcast. In the video, the married family-values crusader talks in graphic detail about women he slept with -- at least one of whom appeared to be a lobbyist with business before the utilities committee on which Duvall sat as vice chairman. Paul Stanley, Republican former member of the Tennessee Sen., resigned from the state Senate effective Aug. 10, after his affair with a 22-year-old intern and a subsequent extortion attempt was revealed to the public.  Mark Sanford, governor of South Carolina, disappears during Father's Day weekend, returning to confess an extramarital affair in Argentina. John Ensign, Senator from Nevada, refuses to resign after confessing to an extramarital affair with a married staffer, claiming she was trying to extort him. Later, it was learned he was attempting to pay her and her husband off through his parents and finding them jobs. Alan David Berlin, an aide for Senator Jane Orie of Pennsylvania. He is also a furry who contacted a fifteen year old boy over the internet, and offered to "yiff" the boy in a panda outfit, while his parents weren't home. The parents discovered the graphic emails on the boy's computer and called the attorney general's child predator unit sometime in May. Police raided his home and discovered various furry outfits such as a wolf costume, as well as a cat outfit; all complete with two holes cut out at the undersides of the costumes. He is now arraigned in Dauphin County jail on a $250,000 bail. Bruce Barclay, former Cumberland County commissioner, videotaped hundreds of sexual encounters — many with male escorts — using cameras hidden throughout his Monroe Township home. Matthew Joseph Elliott, former aide to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, was convicted of sexual exploitation of a child. Vito Fossella, the only Republican member of Congress from New York City, admitted to police to having a child out-of-wedlock when stopped for drunk driving. Robert McKee, Republican delegate from Western Maryland, announced his resignation after authorities seized two computers, videotapes and printed materials from his Hagerstown home in a child pornography investigation. McKee also resigned his position as executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County. The point of my question is to try to put into perspective the moral authority of a party who claims to represent family and Christian values. more

Resolved Question: What is your opinion on this Another Illegal Alien Sues Over Arrest?

In the latest of several lawsuits filed by illegal immigrants against U.S. law enforcement agencies, a Mexican woman claims that an Arizona sheriff’s department mistreated her during a workplace raid that led to the arrest of dozens of undocumented workers. For three years Celia Alvarez used a fake identity to work at a Phoenix landscaping company that was raided last fall by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department. Alvarez, who has four U.S.-born anchor babies, was among the 60 illegal immigrants arrested in the operation. In a federal complaint she accuses Maricopa Sheriff’s deputies of negligence and mistreatment for arresting and interrogating her. Alvarez also claims that deputies violently struck her and denied her medical care for several weeks during her two-month detention. She is seeking damages for illegal search and seizure as well as assault. The arrest also traumatized her children, Alvarez says, especially her youngest because he was still breastfeeding at the time and his mother was not available to properly nourish him. She asserts that the incident has marked her for a lifetime and hurt her kids, who as U.S.-born citizens collect public assistance. The struggling, unemployed illegal immigrant with four young children assures she’s not interested in the money she “could get out of this,” but rather in denouncing the “abuse, cruelty and inhumanity” of how she was treated by the local sheriff, which she worries will “go after more people.” This seems to be part of a growing trend among illegal immigrants and their advocate pro bono attorneys to sue law enforcement officials for doing their job and local governments for enforcing their measures. In the last few months alone legal action has been taken against an Ohio sheriff deputy who helped deport a Mexican with false identification cards, a Maryland officer who arrested an illegal Salvadoran woman and federal agents who apprehended a group of illegal aliens in a Connecticut immigration raid. A few weeks ago a group of undocumented day laborers sued a southern California city (Costa Mesa) for banning them from seeking work on public streets. The lawsuit actually stems from the arrest by local police of a dozen illegal alien day laborers who violated the city’s anti-solicitation ordinance. On a positive note, a Rhode Island state trooper sued for racial profiling after detaining a group of illegal aliens during a traffic stop was recently exonerated by a federal appeals court that determined the officer acted appropriately. http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2010/feb/another-illegal-alien-sues-over-arrest more

Resolved Question: Why are illegals attacking our children 11 year old girl was attacked is it time to start deporting illegals?

Two Silver Spring men are being held on a $1 million bond Thursday after being arrested on charges that they raped an 11-year-old girl who, shortly after leaving the scene of the crime, helped police arrest the two men by identifying items she saw in their residence, police say. Melquicide H. Sorto, 31, and Marcos R. Torres-Enriquez, 20, both of the 8700 block of Carroll Avenue in Silver Spring, were arrested Tuesday night by Montgomery County Police and charged with second-degree rape. Montgomery County District Court Judge William Simmons set the bond for both men at $1 million Thursday. They will continue to be held at the Montgomery County Detention Center. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement have placed a detainer on both men, because it is suspected they are illegal immigrants, said a spokeswoman for ICE, a federal agency. Once the suspects have completed their legal and criminal processes, they will be handed over to ICE and could possibly be deported. Police allege the two men first approached the girl, who is from the Quebec Terrace neighborhood of Silver Spring, at a gas station near Piney Branch Road and Carroll Avenue Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement of charges filed in District Court in Rockville. The men spoke to the victim in Spanish, which she did not understand, and she then walked to her nearby home, according to the statement. At around 8 p.m. that evening, the victim went to a park in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace in Silver Spring by herself and saw the suspects again, charging documents state. They again spoke to the victim, and she again walked away, but this time the men grabbed her arm and took her to their home nearby, where they allegedly raped her, charging documents state. After the assault, the men allowed the girl to leave their home, according to charging documents. As the girl walked home, she saw her mother, who had been out looking for her, and the girl told her mother that she had been raped, charging documents state. The mother then called police. When police responded at around 8:37 p.m. Tuesday, the victim pointed out the residence where she was allegedly raped and described the inside of the residence so police could better identify the suspects, according to charging documents. When officers entered the residence, they saw Sorto and Torres-Enriquez, as well as some of the items the girl described, charging documents said. The men were placed in custody and brought outside of their home so a police cruiser with the victim in the back seat could drive by, said Cpl. Dan Friz, a police spokesman. The girl identified the two men as the same men who allegedly raped her, Friz said. As part of law-enforcement techniques enacted in 2009 by Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) and Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas J. Manger, police notified federal immigration officials of the suspects because they were charged with a violent crime. Manger and Leggett's decision, a stricter stance than the county's previously hands-off approach to immigration enforcement, came partially in response to the shooting death of 14-year-old Tai Lam, who was killed by gang members Nov. 1, 2008, at a bus stop just blocks from Sorto and Torres-Enriquez's residence. Just months before he shot and killed Lam, the shooter, Hector Hernandez, was arrested on concealed-weapons charges and quickly released. http://www.gazette.net/stories/02252010/montnew162822_32567.php Will ice quickly release these guys or will Casa de Maryland make bail for them ? more

Voting Question: need doctor that specializes in organic brain disorder?

in 2009 i applied for my disability but when i was approved for my disability it was not the illness for which i had applied as disabled for. i had to meet with a forensic sociologist and take some tests and in less than one month later i was diagnosed with organic brain disorder/syndrome. i would very much like to find a doctor in my area germantown maryland. maybe there is some other tests that could be done or maybe find something that can help me. i don't know who to see or where to go to for help. all the government wants to do is assign a Representative payee to handle my money and pay my bills for me. i have been doing that on my own all my life and i don't think i need a Representative payee at this point in time. i want to know what might be causing this and if there's something that can be done about it. the ssdi is putting me off in paying me my back pay stating that i need a Representative payee. i know how to write a check and balance my check book and pay my bills on time. and my therapist, psychiatrist, job coach and my room mate that has know me for 40 years has already sent letters to let the ssdi office know that i handle all that my self, i drive, and i do all the things that everybody else does, things i've done my whole life that's not the problem that i have with the cognitive thinking, get real nervous around people and i have a problem learning new things, following instructions, organization, having to be told more than 5 to 6 times the same thing sometimes before it sinks in. and when i get nervous I'm even worse. it takes a little longer to learn new things than it does other people. does anyone know of any doctors in the area of Montgomery county maryland that specializes in this condition? i feel desperate, i need to find a doctor that gives a darn and that will try and help me. i have already had a head MRI but the doctor that ordered is gone from the area now. she was just a primary care physician that wanted to make sure that i did not have a tumor or something going on in the brain. but she's left the area now and i really would like to see a doctor that specializes in this condition. 3 months ago i started taking a vitamin for memory and brain function and i seem to be somewhat better so i will continue to take for another 3 months and meanwhile hope to find some help somewhere.i just had a head mri and was told everything looked normal. no tumor. i don't have a problem doing things that i've done all my life. it's trying to follow directions to operate a new gadget, or programing a new tv from the book etc. when i get to the point of not being able to grocery shop, write a check, pay my bills on time , forget to take a bath, or have to be told to eat etc then i will admit to needing a represenative payee! and i will ask for someone to be appointed to be my represenative payee or appoint one for my self. more

Resolved Question: Can I legally drive my fiances mothers car; will her insurance cover me?

I'm 20, I will be 21 in a month. I got my Provisional Drivers License today. I have a toddler, and am pregnant. We live in Calvert County, Maryland. My fiance and I live with his parents, we rent 2 rooms. His mother is 69, and has All State car insurance, not sure what plan. Can I legally drive her car infrequently, like to the grocery store, or to OB appointments here and there without having insurance myself? Does it depend on her plan? She's going to call them tomorrow to see, but I'd just like to see what answers I get on here tonight. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Will it cost money or make her insurance more expensive to have me added as a driver to her policy? She just told me she has full coverage. more
