Voting Question: Can a landlord "show" a property to future tenants during the current tenants lease?

As a retaliatory measure (for county code violations cited against my landlord), the landlord has served me with a notice to vacate by September 30th. Am I obligated by Maryland law to allow the landlord to "show" this property to potential tenants or does he have to wait until I move out? And, do I have to allow his employee access to make repairs for future rentals (not for his cited violations)? I have been an above-average tenant...I pay the rent in advance and exceed the standards in maintaining the property (I have even refinished the hardwood floors---with the landlord's approval). Thank you for your time and assistance. more

Resolved Question: What are happening to our homeless shelters in Maryland? Baltimore County areas needing help for space.?

Over the years I have seen alot of disappointments in how a actual shelter is suppose to be ran. There are alot of misunderstandings with each of the residents/clients vs. the staff members. Nothing ever gets done correctly and the residents are badly treated because of the fact that nothing is updated nor reported in a positive manner. SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE SOMEWHERE!!!! The clients are always "put down" because of the bad reports always being put out into the open. THERE ARE others in shelters that do want to make a difference in our lives and until the ones that actually see what happens/goes on inside, then they understand why some of the residents have bad attitudes when they are "put down." Is there any "ONE" (person) who has the consideration or feelings for others to help someone out in this situation? more

Resolved Question: What does an illegal alien have to do to go to jail anyway? Imagine if this was committed by an American?

http://illegalaliennewsupdate.com/archives/8956 Mexican Illegal Pleads Guilty To Sexually Exploiting A Minor To Produce Child Pornography • July 2, 2010 A man who admitted to sexually abusing a 6-year-old Hyattsville boy pleaded guilty June 4 to exploitation charges after a videotape of the abuse was found in a Dumpster, said prosecutors in the U.S. attorney’s office for the district of Maryland. Maynor Quintanilla-Leon, 25, who had been renting a room in the Hyattsville home where the boy lived at the time of the abuse, pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting a minor to produce child pornography, prosecutors said. He faces between 15 and 30 years in prison. The 47-minute tape, which was found July 8, 2009, shows Quintanilla-Leon sodomizing the boy and ejaculating on him, according to his plea agreement. When the boy was interviewed by police, he said Quintanilla-Leon had abused him 20 times, the plea agreement states. Quintanilla-Leon, an illegal immigrant, admitted to sexually abusing the boy two times and throwing away the videotape in a Dumpster but not to taping the abuse. As part of Quintanilla-Leon’s plea agreement, he will be deported after he serves his jail time, prosecutors said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Prince George’s County Police Department and the Prince George’s County state’s attorney’s office also worked on the case. “Our relationship with the U.S. attorney’s office benefits the residents of Prince George’s County because it gives us an alternate avenue of prosecution for serious crimes,” county Police Chief Roberto L. Hylton said in a statement. “Mr. Quintanilla-Leon’s despicable acts committed on a 6-year-old boy cry out for a long period of incarceration.” more

Voting Question: Speeding citation help: 86MPH in 70MPH Zone, Georgia (Camden Cty, I-95), Live in MD?

Looking for legal advice on what is best to do. I live in Maryland. Aug 20 - I had gotten pulled over by Camden Cty Sherriff in Camden County, GA, on Interstate 95 Northbound about 10 miles after the GA/FL state line for speeding. 86MPH in a 70MPH zone by RADAR. I was pretty much traveling at about the same speed as traffic, I was somewhat in front of the pack of maybe 5 cars in the right lane. I was using Cruise Control, I'm sure I was not doing any more than 80-82. I had told the Sherriff I couldn't had been doing 86MPH, he asked if I wanted to check the accuracy of the RADAR, I declined because I do not know the correct procedures to check them for accuracy. For all I know, my speedometer in the rental, my GPS, and the RADAR could be anywhere "accurate". He wrote something down on the remarks section, but I can't make it out what it says on my copy (everything else is readable). I've done some research myself. Under GA Super speeders law and traffic laws, it looks like I could be facing at least a $300 fine, 2 points and a misdemeanor charge. All would be reported back to MD. Very ridiculous for a criminal misdemeanor charge, in my opinion, for only a speeding citation. Not sure as to how much the fine is actually is yet since the citation seems to have not been processed yet. Looking for advice on what's best to do (hire an attorney to represent me or to simply pay the citation).I would prefer to pay a higher fine than to take 2 points and a misdemeanor charge. And I have not admit to guilt (court date is set for Oct. 6). I've been pulled over twice years ago for a speeding citation (56/35 Zone) and a Stop Sign, both in Md. Got PBJ for both and the fines for either was not more than $100. Both are not on my records anymore to my belief. more

Resolved Question: Is it about time Get tough on drunken-driver illegals hundreds of alcohol-related arrests of warrants posted?

The silence from Maryland's political leadership was deafening when the news broke that Carlos Montano, an illegal alien, was arrested in Virginia for crashing into and killing an innocent Catholic nun while driving under the influence ("Suspect in fatal accident an illegal," Page 1, Aug. 3). Politicians in Montgomery and Prince George's counties, which are known sanctuaries for illegal aliens, are quite aware of the dangerous arrest-and-release policies used for drunken-driving and related cases involving illegal aliens. For counties that pride themselves on public health and safety issues such as cigarette-smoking bans, trans-fat elimination, fireworks restrictions, motorcycle and bicycle helmet requirements and severe drunken-driving regulations, this revolving-door policy for illegals stands out like a sore thumb. A careful review of Montgomery County's outstanding criminal and traffic warrants posted online reveals hundreds of alcohol-related arrests of illegals. In Prince George's County, the problem is even more pronounced, with outstanding warrants numbering in the tens of thousands. Why does the solid bloc of Democratic politicians in both counties assume that illegal aliens cited for drunken driving and related automotive violations (such as driving without a license or insurance) would actually show up in court for their crimes? These fugitives already broke the law getting to our state and have no respect for our system of justice. We all know too well that automobiles can be killing machines. For the safety of Maryland residents, it's time to tighten immigration-enforcement restrictions to include all driving violations. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/aug/19/get-tough-on-drunken-driver-illegals/ more

Resolved Question: DC area- what is best area for a young professional with limited budget to rent-Maryland or Northern Virginia?

My budget is no more than $1000 and am willing to live with roommate(s). I don't want to live in the ghetto but things like 24 hr security aren't nearly as important as proximity to a metro station. I'd like to live in a urban location and not out in the suburbs preferably (thinking Alexandria, Ballston, Chevy Chase, etc). I'm sure a half-way decent place in DC isn't in my price range so can you recommend overall areas that would be helpful for the beginning of my search? For starters do you think I'd be better off in DC, PG county, Montgomery county, Howard county, Fairfax county, Alexandria, or Arlington? more

Resolved Question: How much do you want to bet these people turn out to be liberals?

Even if it's NOT forced labor, they could NOT find any record of pay or of them taking taxes out for her...is this just another typical liberal home, except this time exploiting a LEGAL immigrant? excerpt... A 55-year-old housekeeper sued her Montgomery County employers Tuesday, alleging the family of three kept her in a "forced labor" arrangement and didn’t pay her for more than four months of work. An attorney for the family denied the allegations. And in earlier conversations with Montgomery County police detectives, the housekeeper said she was allowed to leave the employer’s house and that she had access to a telephone, according to a police spokeswoman. The detectives didn't find any indication of human trafficking, which they have pursued in other cases, and didn't file charges in the matter, law enforcement officials said. Attorneys for the domestic worker, Janet Gonzalez, a legal immigrant from Venezuela, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Maryland on Tuesday. Casa de Maryland played an active role in the case, and called a news conference Tuesday morning to announce the filing. Among the allegations in the lawsuit:... http://voices.washingtonpost.com/crime-scene/montgomery/a-55-year-old-domestic-worker.html more

Resolved Question: How can I keep my dog cool at a dog show?

So here's the situation. I will be attending a dog show in my local county fair in about two weeks. It's been cooling down here in Maryland, but the highs of each day are still usually around 90. Now, let me put in a good word for my trainers here - we train outdoors and they cancel training if it's above 90 out, because they don't want to overheat the dogs. However, the show must go on no matter what the weather. What are your tips and tricks for keeping dogs cool at a dog show? I already know to keep them drinking, and wet down their underbellies after the conformation part is over. In fact, I shaved my dog's abdomen and groin so wetting them would be more effective. We can't afford any expensive heat-resistant fabric for over their crates, and I just can't find battery-powered fans! So what would you do? We will have some shade underneath a pavilion. Thanks for all your help!Edit: Guys, this is in my county. It's twenty minutes away from my house. It's not like it's a huge road trip or anything. And by the way, I can't put anything cold over her back since that will stick the fur down, preventing heat from escaping and actually heating her up. Weird, huh? more

Resolved Question: What do you think CASA de Maryland DVM has no right to ask for a SS# Immigration status or id to vote?

Since 2005, the open-borders group has hauled in at least $7.6 million in the form of outright subsidies, community development tax credits, government-issued bonds, grants and heavens knows what else. It's used tax dollars to fund day laborer sites, organize a protest against Arizona's new immigration law, and even file a lawsuit against a Frederick County sheriff for arresting a woman wanted on a deportation warrant. Even while they were staring at a $2 billion budget deficit earlier this year, state legislators defeated, by a lopsided vote of 47-89, an amendment offered by House Minority Leader Anthony O'Donnell, R-Calvert, to strip CASA of yet another $200,000 the group was allocated from the state's capital budget. CASA in Action has already raised $45,000 from 5,000 dues-paying members, according to Kim Propeack, director of community organizing and political action. CASA organizers say they hope to harness the "enormous unrealized potential of the Latino vote" in Maryland, where, thanks in large part to political pressure from CASA, local elections officials cannot demand proof of citizenship and election judges cannot even demand to see a voter's ID. The PAC's current agenda includes issuing Maryland driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, fighting efforts to make English the official state language, lobbying for more funding for nonprofits like CASA, and stopping raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. Evidence of CASA's political clout was recently on display. Despite deep budget cuts that forced some county employees to take unpaid furloughs, the Hyattsville-based group was miraculously spared. It received $2.1 million from local governments ($1.3 million from Montgomery County alone) even though its other sources of revenue include deep-pocketed billionaire George Soros' Open Society Institute and Citgo, Venezeula's state-owned oil company. The October 2008 grand opening of CASA's $13.8 million Multicultural Service Center in a restored mansion in Langley Park ("a casa for CASA") was attended by a long list of Democratic bigwigs, including Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., Rep. Donna Edwards, D-Prince George's, Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler, state Comptroller Peter Franchot, Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson and Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett. "I do everything [current CASA President] Gustavo [Torres] tells me to do," Maryland House Ways and Means Committee Chairwoman Sheila Hixson, D-Montgomery, said only half-jokingly. Not surprisingly, former CASA President Thomas Perez, a former aide to the late Sen. Ted Kennedy who is now head of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, took the lead in preparing the federal government's lawsuit against Arizona's new immigration law. While head of CASA, Perez demanded in-state tuition for illegal immigrants and opposed enforcement of deportation orders. The group even pressured Montgomery County Public Schools officials to offer academic credit to students who attended a pro-illegal-immigration rally in D.C. More recently, Torres unilaterally declared that the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration has "absolutely no right to ask for people's Social Security number or immigration status to get a drivers license" -- in direct contradiction of the federal Real ID Act. No elected public official has yet had the temerity to set him straight. Who needs a political action committee when you already tell everybody in the state how high to jump? http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/columns/CASA-de-Maryland_s-expands-its-political-advocacy-arm-1006656-99776689.html more

Resolved Question: What do you think illegal Addicted to cocaine sentenced to 40 years for brutal 2005 slaying?

An illegal immigrant who fled to Mexico after killing his boss for drug money in 2005 was sentenced to 40 years in prison Monday in Howard County Circuit Court. It took Howard police and prosecutors more than four years to find and extradite Joel Nunez Valles from a Mexican jail, where he was confined for an unknown crime. Prosecutor Susan Weinstein said Valles' sentence, life in prison with all but 40 years suspended, was the result of a plea agreement because the main witnesses were his own family members, who were "reluctant" to testify. According to police, Valles, a cocaine addict, killed Juan Miguel Gonzales, 51, of West Friendship, the owner of a landscaping company where Valles worked. Valles stabbed Gonzales 19 times in the face, neck and chest with a screwdriver after the owner refused to give him cash for drugs. Valles took a bus back to Mexico the next day, though it took two days before anyone discovered Gonzales' body. "What's important to understand is that Mr. Valles didn't just take one life. Mr. Valles took the lives of my family," said Gonzales' son Alexander Garza, 23, in a victim's impact statement. "You took any chances of my siblings having an argument with my father," he said, as well as Gonzales' ability to see his children graduate from Centennial High School, or later from college. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/howard/bs-md-ho-valles-sentence-20100802,0,4111624.story?track=rss I was told illegals from Mexico never use drugs and it is only an American problem is this a misprint illegal from Mexico Addicted to cocaine ? more

Resolved Question: Was there a 19th-century "Billy Graham" with the last name of Stockton?

In reading old local newspapers here in Worcester County, Maryland, I think I have seen sermons by a Pastor Stockton, perhaps in the 1880s or 1870s. At the time of my reading, I made no notes, so I am only working from memory. I think he was known on the national level and that his sermons appeared in newspapers around the country. He could have been a well-known evangelist, I do not know. I have done some searching on the web, and I can come up with no Pastor Stockton. The name of my little hometown was changed form Sandy Hill to Stockton in 1872. No one knows where the new name came from. It is my theory that the town fathers wanted to honor Pastor Stockton -- if indeed this man did exist. more

Resolved Question: What is your opinion Voters say take action against sanctuary cities?

A majority of likely voters say the federal government should take legal action against cities that provide safe havens to illegal immigrants and cut federal funds to so-called "sanctuary cities," a Rasmussen Reports survey shows. The survey, released Tuesday, said 54 percent support legal action against sanctuary cities and 60 percent support withholding federal funds from the jurisdictions. Critics of sanctuary cities say the Justice Department is acting unfairly by not pursuing such cities for breaking the law while taking legal action against Arizona for instituting state measures against illegal immigration. "The federal government should be suing San Francisco, which has refused to cooperate with the federal government in enforcing immigration laws," said Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William (Va.) County Board of County Supervisors. In 2007, Mr. Stewart was at the forefront of the issue, driving some of the county's toughest immigration laws. "Our belief is that President Obama should be suing mayors [of sanctuary cities], not Arizona," said Maryland state Delegate Patrick L. McDonough, Baltimore County Republican. Mr. McDonough said he plans to introduce two immigration laws during the next General Assembly session: one that calls for a state ban on sanctuary cities and another patterned after the Arizona law. A representative for U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. recently said a "big difference" exists between a state or locality choosing not to use resources to enforce a federal law and a state passing its own immigration policy that "actively interferes with federal law." Rasmussen found that 56 percent of those surveyed oppose the Justice Department's action against Arizona and that 61 percent favor legislation similar to Arizona's in their own state. Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco and the District of Columbia are among the major U.S. cities that have adopted sanctuary ordinances, which prohibit police officers and other municipal employees from asking people about their immigration status. The new Arizona law requires local police to check the immigration status of those who they suspect of being in the country illegally. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jul/27/voters-say-take-action-against-sanctuary-cities/ more

Resolved Question: What do you think illegal aliens criminals get officer arrested & put in prison please look at their?

What do you think illegal aliens criminals get officer arrested & put in prison please look at their arrest records is this injustice ? On the night of September 21, 1995, Prince George’s County Police Officer Stephanie Mohr was on patrol in Takoma Park, Maryland, when her and her partner Sgt. Anthony Delozier, got a call to provide backup to another officer who was responding to a burglary at a business. When they arrived on the scene, two suspects, Ricardo Mendez and Herrera Cruz were exiting the roof of the business. Mendez and Cruz, both illegal aliens, were yelling back and forth to one another in Spanish. The first responding officer told the two to face the wall. Mendez reportedly made a motion as if he was going to run. That’s when Mohr, a K-9 officer, released Valk, her German Shepherd. Valk bit Mendez on the leg and held him while he was placed in handcuffs. Both Mendez and Cruz were charged with 4th degree burglary. Cruz pled guilty and was deported back to Mexico. In addition to immigration violations, Mendez was convicted of selling crack cocaine and deported to El Salvador. The incident was just another in a typically tough day for the Prince Georges police officer. Then, five years later, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted Mohr for violating Ricardo Mendez’s civil rights. The jury voted 11-1 to acquit Mohr, and the proceeding ended in a mistrial. However, the federal government tried her again, this time, even flying Mendez from El Salvador, and Cruz from a jail cell in Texas to testify against her. In the second trial, the prosecution team painted Mohr as a racist, and this time they got a conviction. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison for In August 2002, Mohr was taken to prison, where she remains today. Her release date is November 27, 2011. At the time she began serving her sentence, her son, Adam, who she was raising on her own, was 4-years-old. We are all familiar with the persecution of Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, after they pursued and shot an illegal alien drug smuggler. The two spent two years in federal prison after the Justice Department prosecuted them. Of course, there are many other officers who have been unfairly prosecuted for denying illegal aliens their ‘civil right,’ usually on the orders of the Mexican government. But few have heard the sad story of Stephanie Mohr. If you would like to write to Officer Mohr, you may do so at the following address: Stephanie Mohr FPC Alderson Federal Prison Camp Glen Ray Rd. Resolved Question: What do you think Taxpayer funded CASA de Maryland ventures into politics?

CASA de Maryland, the immigration advocacy group that collects millions of dollars in taxpayer money, has started a political organization to back pro-Hispanic candidates that critics contend blurs the line between nonprofit work and political activism. Dubbed CASA in Action, the group sent out surveys to politicians in Montgomery and Prince George's counties and will endorse primary candidates who promote Hispanic causes. Among the questions: Whether candidates support giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, whether English should be the official state language, and whether office seekers would push for more funding for Hispanic nonprofits. "It allows immigrants and low-income people in Maryland to come together and express their political priorities," said spokeswoman Eliza Leighton. But some say the group's foray into politics should preclude it from receiving taxpayer money. "I think the era of CASA being a service entity is over," said Brad Botwin, director of Help Save Maryland, an anti-illegal-immigration group. "I think we need to stop giving them any funds. Other groups can do the same work without promoting lawlessness." CASA will receive nearly $2.1 million this fiscal year from local governments, including $1.3 million from Montgomery County, and another $32,000 in federal money, according to Kim Propeack, the group's director of community organizing and political action. CASA in Action has raised $45,000 thus far from members paying $9 annual dues, she added. Botwin argues the group, for years, has raked in millions of taxpayer dollars despite ignoring -- and often embracing -- illegal immigration. CASA runs five day laborer sites in Maryland, offering services regardless of immigration status. CASA officials responded that the new wing of the organization is funded entirely by member donations. CASA's top brass, including Executive Director Gustavo Torres, are running the political operation and have not hired new employees for the political team. Propeack says human-service organizations have made similar plunges into politics. She referenced the Tenants and Workers United, the largest member-based organization for low-income workers in Northern Virginia, as the local model for such a move. Like CASA, the group canvases against what it considers overly harsh raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and supports day laborers throughout the region. Nonprofit legal analysts tell The Washington Examiner that CASA is not in violation of federal law if they don't use government money for political purposes and note the time spent between the two wings of the organization Read more at the Washington Examiner: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/local/Taxpayer-funded-CASA-de-Maryland-ventures-into-politics-1000355-98639969.html#ixzz0u5aVmIHO more

Resolved Question: Where is Josiah Heath Benson in 1870?

Josiah Heath Benson had two wives and 11 children. I have him in 1850, 1860 and 1880. He eludes me in 1870. Can any of you warm, wise, witty and, above all, devilishly handsome regulars find him? I found him in other sources, too, so don't waste your time duplicating my efforts there. I'm just annoyed that I can't find him in 1870. Here is his data and the birth data of the children who are probably alive in 1870: Census: 1850 Pike County, Illinois 1860 Washington Twp, Appanoose, Iowa 1880 Vallejo Township (Now Petaluma), Sonoma, California Josiah Heath Benson born: 12 Mar 1819 Somerset County, Maryland (Moved to Delaware in 1822, often recorded as b. Delaware) Death: 24 Jun 1896 Petaluma, Sonoma, California AFN: PPHS-HL Both wives died before 1870. Children: Margaret A. Benson, born: 1842/43 Illinois Albert Benson, born: 18 Mar 1847 Illinois Henry Benson, born: 31 Jan 1855 Appanoose County, Iowa William Benson, born: 21 Apr 1856 Appanoose County, Iowa Josiah H.
