Resolved Question: Is this a good example of what the Second Amendment meant by "A well regulated Militia"?
Almost 13,000 militiamen assembled and ready in a little over a month. That's pretty "well Regulated", wouldn't you agree? "President Washington... issued a proclamation on August 7th calling on the rebels" to disperse and retire peaceably to their respective abodes." The proclamation also invoked the Militia Act of 1792, which, after Federal court approval, allowed the President to use State militiamen to put down internal rebellions and "cause the laws to be duly executed." The same day, Secretary of War Henry Knox sent a letter to the governors of Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia requesting a total of 12,950 militiamen to put down the rebellion... ...almost 13,000 militiamen had gathered at Carlisle, Penn-sylvania, and prepared to march west to end the rebellion. On September 19, 1794, George Washington became the only sitting U.S. President to personally lead troops in the field when he led the militia on a nearly month-long march west over the Allegheny Mountains to the town of Bedford." http://www.ttb.gov/public_info/whisky_rebellion.shtml moreOpen Question: Getting a Vespa/Moped in Maryland?
I'm currently attending college in Towson and since I didn't have a car of my own to bring (but freshman are allowed to have them on campus) and there are many places that are simply too far for me to bike to, I was considering getting a Vespa or a moped or something like that. However, being from New York I have no understanding of Maryland's laws regarding ownership, licenses, the cost of insurance, where I can buy a Vespa/moped, etc. If any one has any information it would be really great. moreResolved Question: What's the dumbest law in your state?

"President Washington... issued a proclamation on August 7th calling on the rebels" to disperse and retire peaceably to their respective abodes."[4] The proclamation also invoked the Militia Act of 1792, which, after Federal court approval, allowed the President to use State militiamen to put down internal rebellions and "cause the laws to be duly executed."[5] The same day, Secretary of War Henry Knox sent a letter to the governors of Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia requesting a total of 12,950 militiamen to put down the rebellion... As a retaliatory measure (for county code violations cited against my landlord), the landlord has served me with a notice to vacate by September 30th. Am I obligated by Maryland law to allow the landlord to "show" this property to potential tenants or does he have to wait until I move out? And, do I have to allow his employee access to make repairs for future rentals (not for his cited violations)? I have been an above-average tenant...I pay the rent in advance and exceed the standards in maintaining the property (I have even refinished the hardwood floors---with the landlord's approval). (Maryland)?
Ok now I didnt really get a ticket I was just stating an example. I was just wondering what are some common things cops do that try to abuse there power that the average driver wouldnt know. A lot of people surprisingly dont realize its not aloud for a cop to pull you over while in someones driveway unless they have there permission to park there. Another thing is video recording the conversation between you and the cop when pulled over is perfectly legal. What other things are out there that can help benefit us drivers that most people dont know about. I really hate cops =/ I live in maryland so laws might be different here. Link?PS to all the people saying im wrong. I have 2 family members who are cops and they say its pefectly legal to record. Your on public ground and anything is fair game. Cops jsut try to cover that up saying its ilegal so you dont do it. Just like cops say there is no such thing as a monthly Quota. There is they just want you believing everything they say. http://autos.aol.com/article/cops-on-video/And I know for a FACT it is ILLEGAL to pull somebody over while in a public driveway without the owners consent of being in that driveway. I really want to get out of the lease I'm in for my apartment, the whole place is a ghetto, falling apart slum (to say the least). I've complained to the leasing office twice, and 911 twice, about the neighbors below me with banging, and their music, and nothing has been done. Can I break my lease without having to pay anything else using the quiet enjoyment clause? There's nothing in this law that says anything about any minimum number of calls it takes for this to apply to me. I mailed them a detailed letter, with what the problems were, when I called (dates and times) and that nothing was resolved. I told them that the move out date would be discussed over the phone after they get the letter. Think I'm good to go here?Nothing to do with noise??? I suggest you re-read the law. moreVoting Question: McCulloch v. Maryland (1819) explanation...?
Facts of the Case: In 1816, Congress chartered The Second Bank of the United States. In 1818, the state of Maryland passed legislation to impose taxes on the bank. James W. McCulloch, the cashier of the Baltimore branch of the bank, refused to pay the tax. Question: The case presented two questions: Did Congress have the authority to establish the bank? Did the Maryland law unconstitutionally interfere with congressional powers? Conclusion: In a unanimous decision, the Court held that Congress had the power to incorporate the bank and that Maryland could not tax instruments of the national government employed in the execution of constitutional powers. Writing for the Court, Chief Justice Marshall noted that Congress possessed unenumerated powers not explicitly outlined in the Constitution. Marshall also held that while the states retained the power of taxation, "the constitution and the laws made in pursuance thereof are supreme. . .they control the constitution and laws of the respective states, and cannot be controlled by them." ALL I NEED IS SOMEONE TO GIVE ME A SUMMARY OF THE CONCLUSION IN THEIR OWN WORDS WHAT IT MEANS. ONLY THE CONCLUSION. THANK YOU! moreResolved Question: Is a marriage made invalid in states or countries with different marital requirements?
...or does it depend on the level of differences? Examples 1. Small difference- In the state of Maryland it is required that to get married the couple needs a blood test, in other states it is not. Would a couple married in a different state and later relocated to Maryland be legally married? 2. Medium difference- In Holland, California, and D.C. gay marriage has been legalized but their are tons of place where a same-sex marriage is not yet recognized. Same question as the first example. 3. Super-large difference- In some countries it is completely legal for men to have multiple wives who are under aged by our standards. If a 43 year old man were to come from one of those countries with his three wives who are 12,15, and 17 would the marriage still be legal. Would action be taken out against them? (I find this different from the polygamous sect is Texas because the marriages all occurred in the U.S. and those involved were not abiding by the U.S. law) moreVoting Question: Speeding citation help: 86MPH in 70MPH Zone, Georgia (Camden Cty, I-95), Live in MD?
Looking for legal advice on what is best to do. I live in Maryland. Aug 20 - I had gotten pulled over by Camden Cty Sherriff in Camden County, GA, on Interstate 95 Northbound about 10 miles after the GA/FL state line for speeding. 86MPH in a 70MPH zone by RADAR. I was pretty much traveling at about the same speed as traffic, I was somewhat in front of the pack of maybe 5 cars in the right lane. I was using Cruise Control, I'm sure I was not doing any more than 80-82. I had told the Sherriff I couldn't had been doing 86MPH, he asked if I wanted to check the accuracy of the RADAR, I declined because I do not know the correct procedures to check them for accuracy. For all I know, my speedometer in the rental, my GPS, and the RADAR could be anywhere "accurate". He wrote something down on the remarks section, but I can't make it out what it says on my copy (everything else is readable). I've done some research myself. Under GA Super speeders law and traffic laws, it looks like I could be facing at least a $300 fine, 2 points and a misdemeanor charge. All would be reported back to MD. Very ridiculous for a criminal misdemeanor charge, in my opinion, for only a speeding citation. Not sure as to how much the fine is actually is yet since the citation seems to have not been processed yet. Looking for advice on what's best to do (hire an attorney to represent me or to simply pay the citation).I would prefer to pay a higher fine than to take 2 points and a misdemeanor charge. And I have not admit to guilt (court date is set for Oct. 6). I've been pulled over twice years ago for a speeding citation (56/35 Zone) and a Stop Sign, both in Md. Got PBJ for both and the fines for either was not more than $100. Both are not on my records anymore to my belief. moreResolved Question: Is it true that Mississippi state law states you have to be married to get custody of your kids?
my girlfriend is from mississippi and she is saying to get custody of her kids she has to be married she says thats a Mississippi state law is that true? I live in maryland and i've never heard of that. moreVoting Question: One more try.... or let it die?
Me and my friend we’ll call her “Ann” have been friends for nearly 20 years and I stopped speaking to her last December. The reason was a build up, not just one single fight. In the beginning we got along well and the friendship was equal. Through the years we have had our share of fights but we’ve always made up. The longest we haven’t spoken was about 3 to 5 months. We’re coming upon 10 months soon that we’ve not been speaking. The reason why I stopped talking to her was because whenever we talked it was always all about her. Her husband, her family, her in-laws, her job, her aches/pains, her friends, her dreams, her parties her her her. And she never ever showed any interest in my life. Ever. Oh sure she’d ask so how have you been? And when I’d go to respond it would be something like this. “Well the other day I”…. and then I’d get interrupted with OH guess what! I just want to tell you this real quick and THEN you can tell me. (but it never was “real quick”) It was always long and drawn out and just as she’d finish OH I have to go sorry, we’ll talk soon bye. It didn’t help that we both lived far away and that she has no license and I have no car. I had visited her a few times but even if planned she could never make arrangements to come visit me. It was always I work on those days.. Or I never see my husband and it’s my only time, or I’ve got other plans. But the most common was that she just didn’t have a way to come to me. ALL these things are understandable and justifiable with one exception. She traveled VERY often to Baltimore Maryland and to North Conway NH and all over the place. For parties, weddings, or just birthday parties. All the destinations she would travel would be equal or even further away then I was to her, but still when it came to her coming to me it was TOO far or she could never find a ride. For 4 years I tried to get her to come to see me tell her to bring her husband/sister or whoever was taking her, and I would even go as far as to plan my parties and get togethers around her work and social schedule, she’d always tell me she just couldn’t make it due to a ride. Even when I tried to make it be just me and her, which is what I really wanted….she was never able to find a ride. So, after say 8 years of all this…. It gets old fast and I just had had it. Last December I invited her to a party early in November for a December party and she said she’d probably be able to finally make it. But 1 week before the party she wrote me and said she couldn’t come cause she didn’t have a ride. I was disgusted and blocked her from my emails/phone/cell/….. Pretty much all internet communications. I was done and I washed my hands of the friendship if you wanted to call it that. SO, things have changed for me since then. I’ve moved into a because home, and will be getting married in the near future. I miss her… being able to share all these things. She was my best friend and even though she did all that stuff… she was like my only friend. She doesn’t even know I started dating again. It had been over 6 years! I miss her a lot and I want to know should I contact her? OR Should I just let the friendship go and remember the good times we had and be done with it. moreResolved Question: Is it about time Get tough on drunken-driver illegals hundreds of alcohol-related arrests of warrants posted?
The silence from Maryland's political leadership was deafening when the news broke that Carlos Montano, an illegal alien, was arrested in Virginia for crashing into and killing an innocent Catholic nun while driving under the influence ("Suspect in fatal accident an illegal," Page 1, Aug. 3). Politicians in Montgomery and Prince George's counties, which are known sanctuaries for illegal aliens, are quite aware of the dangerous arrest-and-release policies used for drunken-driving and related cases involving illegal aliens. For counties that pride themselves on public health and safety issues such as cigarette-smoking bans, trans-fat elimination, fireworks restrictions, motorcycle and bicycle helmet requirements and severe drunken-driving regulations, this revolving-door policy for illegals stands out like a sore thumb. A careful review of Montgomery County's outstanding criminal and traffic warrants posted online reveals hundreds of alcohol-related arrests of illegals. In Prince George's County, the problem is even more pronounced, with outstanding warrants numbering in the tens of thousands. Why does the solid bloc of Democratic politicians in both counties assume that illegal aliens cited for drunken driving and related automotive violations (such as driving without a license or insurance) would actually show up in court for their crimes? These fugitives already broke the law getting to our state and have no respect for our system of justice. We all know too well that automobiles can be killing machines. For the safety of Maryland residents, it's time to tighten immigration-enforcement restrictions to include all driving violations. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/aug/19/get-tough-on-drunken-driver-illegals/ moreResolved Question: Is this a good mix of schools to apply to?
I'll be a senior in september and I was thinking of applying to the following schools: Northwestern NYU Boston University Northeastern University of Pittsburgh DePaul (Chicago) Duquesne Manhattan College University of Richmond ( maybe) University of Maryland ( maybe) University of Toronto ( maybe) Northwestern and NYU are my reach schools. If I get into Northwestern and I get enough financial aid through the school or outside scholarships I will go there. Pitt is probably the most realistic school on my list. I am pretty confident I can get in, its a pretty good school, and as a state student it is very affordable. BU, DePaul, University of Toronto and Northeastern are schools I would consider if I get a good scholarship from them. If I don't get any money, and I don't get into Northwestern with money I am just going to Pitt. Even if I get into BU, DePaul, University of Toronto or Northeastern. Duquesne, Manhattan College, University of Richmond, and University of Maryland are pretty much my safety schools. I want to major in Urban Studies, Sociology, or Political Science( depending on the school) with a minor(s) or double major in public relations or history ( depending on the school) Eventually I want to go to law school, and I think Urban Studies is a good major because I do not wat to do Pre-law. I would like to have a career in social justice, or public relations, but I do not want to be a social worker. So do you know anything about the schools above? did you/ do you attend one of these school? Are you an Urban Studies major? Suggestions on where to apply are welcome...I want to be in an urban or suburban environment, on the east coast/ mid west. Thanks! :D moreResolved Question: Is Your State Among The 22 That Are Attempting Versions of Arizona's SB1070?

I'm 16 and about to get my provisional license in about a month. In Maryland, the law says you can't drive people under 18 for the first 5 months of holding your provisional. However a bunch of my friends say everyone they know drives around people anyway. How many of you do it or know people who did it? And how often do you/they get caught? Chances are, a cop won't check just to see if my 5 months are up yet if they stop me because there's another 16 yr old in the passenger seat, but I want to know how often kids actually do get screwed by that. If you're an adult or someone who's going to scold me or advise me to not break the law, please don't even bother answering. moreResolved Question: My parents just got seperated and I want my dad to have full custody of me. How can I do this?
My parents got seperated not to long ago and my mom has a new boyfriend now and is having money issues. So she just got a new job. My dad works during the week all day and comes home at 7 p.m. My parents figured out a scheudle when half the week we are at my dads and the other half at my mom. This schedule is very confussing to me b/c most of the time I don't know who's house we are at. I have 2 little brothers they are 9 and 11. My brother Ben, who is 9 has bipolar. So he is hard to handle. My mom and I get stressed out caring for my little brothers and dealing with the house she can barely pay for. I am 14. And this is too much for me to handle with school coming up. My mom and I usually get in physical fights. They get pretty bad at times we have to call 911. We just moved into this house in Maryland. It has a BIG verizon FIOS interface box in the basement. We are not planning to use Verizon for anything (not after this annoying encounter anyway). Even if it's NOT forced labor, they could NOT find any record of pay or of them taking taxes out for her...is this just another typical liberal home, except this time exploiting a LEGAL immigrant? excerpt... A 55-year-old housekeeper sued her Montgomery County employers Tuesday, alleging the family of three kept her in a "forced labor" arrangement and didn’t pay her for more than four months of work. An attorney for the family denied the allegations. And in earlier conversations with Montgomery County police detectives, the housekeeper said she was allowed to leave the employer’s house and that she had access to a telephone, according to a police spokeswoman. The detectives didn't find any indication of human trafficking, which they have pursued in other cases, and didn't file charges in the matter, law enforcement officials said. Attorneys for the domestic worker, Janet Gonzalez, a legal immigrant from Venezuela, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Maryland on Tuesday. Casa de Maryland played an active role in the case, and called a news conference Tuesday morning to announce the filing. WASHINGTON – Missouri voters' overwhelming opposition to requiring nearly all Americans to buy health insurance puts one of the least popular parts of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul law back in the political crosshairs. Even if the vote sets no legally binding precedent, it will help mobilize foes of Obama's agenda in the fall midterm elections, and that could make a difference in some states with close congressional races that could decide the balance of power in Washington. On Tuesday, Missouri voters cast 71 percent of their ballots in favor of a state measure to bar the government from requiring people to carry health insurance, and penalizing those who don't. That approach is at the heart of the federal health care law that Obama signed in March. Starting in 2014, Americans would be required to carry coverage, with exceptions for financial hardship. Government would help pay premiums for millions, but those who still refuse to sign up would face a tax. There's little chance that Missouri can wall itself off from the insurance requirement, since federal law usually supersedes state law. But sponsors of the measure were looking to send another kind of message. "The Missouri vote is significant politically because it will help rally people who oppose the Obama administration to go to the polls in the fall elections," said Robert Blendon, a Harvard public health school professor who tracks opinion trends on health care. "It shows the debate is still alive, and that's what the sponsors wanted to do. They wanted to reintroduce the idea that there is still a debate going on." At least two other states — Arizona and Oklahoma — have similar measures on the ballot in November. And sponsors of Florida's version are appealing to reinstate it after a state judge struck the measure from the ballot, ruling that a summary for voters was misleading. In Colorado, supporters submitted 130,000 voter signatures to the state last week for a ballot measure challenging the insurance mandate, about 50,000 more names than are required. Arizona, Colorado and Florida are states with House and Senate races rated as toss-ups in November. A few years ago, state ballot measures against same-sex marriage helped turn conservatives out in the contest between incumbent President George W. Bush and Massachusetts Democratic Sen. John Kerry. Bush won. Foes of the health care law also seek to overturn the insurance requirement in federal court. Twenty states have joined one of the cases, pending in Florida. This week, a federal judge rejected the Obama administration's request to dismiss Virginia's lawsuit, allowing the case to proceed to formal arguments. Opponents of the mandate argue that the federal government overstepped its constitutional authority by requiring individuals to purchase a particular product, especially one that costs as much as health insurance. The administration says the requirement is well within the government's authority to regulate interstate commerce, and penalties for those who don't comply stem from the power of Congress to levy taxes. The obligation in the new health care law was originally a Republican idea, dating back to the 1990s. Mitt Romney signed such a requirement into law at the state level as Massachusetts governor in 2006. An individual decision not to carry insurance affects society because others have to pay when that person gets sick and seeks treatment, supporters also argue. Reforms in the law — such as requiring insurers to accept people with medical problems — won't work if individuals are allowed to postpone getting coverage until they need it. Democrats sought to play down the significance of the Missouri vote. Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who's coordinating the Democrats' strategy for hanging on to the House, pointed out that the turnout in Missouri was low — less than 25 percent and overwhelmingly Republican, given a number GOP primaries up for grabs. "That doesn't tell you what people's view of health reform is," Van Hollen said. "The numbers are totally distorted because of the lopsided turnout." Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, who backed the health care law, said the results reflect the fact that voters have been bombarded with anti-government criticism of the new law and aren't fully aware of its positive aspects. "'Big government, bad government, don't trust 'em' is a pretty simple message," said McCaskill. Missouri voters interviewed at the polls expressed a general frustration about the government telling them what to do. "This is a free country and government needs to stop," said Cassandra Bosch, 34, a stay-at-home mom from Jefferson City. "You don't have to come into my home and tell me repeatedly what to do." He videotaped his March encounter with a state trooper who pulled him over for speeding on a motorcycle. Then Graber put the video — which could put the officer in a bad light — up on YouTube. I work in a busy Tex mex restaurant in maryland. i feel like there are some unfair things going on. Like maybe there are some labor laws being broken. First of all they have us working 8 sometimes 12 hours straight with out a break. We don't get breaks. We are not aloud to eat while on the job. they said we have to eat before. so if i come in at 4. i have to wait until i get off at 12 sometimes 2 in the morning to eat. and if we get caught eating we get in trouble. sometimes we even work doubles and we get know break and if we try to take a break without permission, we get in trouble. Then we are constantly understaffed. The managers continue to hire very young people who have no intetion of staying or are going back to school. then they leave. on a busy nite we should have at least 12 people working but many times its only for or five of us. So we have to take care of up to 9 tables when we should really be taking care of 4 or five at a time. And now we have a new manager that has never worked in a restaurant in his life. he's horrible he doesn't know how to run a restaurant. when customers or employees are frustrated or has concerns he just backs a away and refuses to listen. when we get crazy busy and are understand he doesn't help much. he doesn't garnish food correctly. he can't make drinks. he can't make food. so he's pretty much useless as a managaner. and of a table walks out on us because we are too busy and understaffed. if we have a big promotion the gm doesn't explain it to us so we can know the proper procedures when the time comes. he got mad at me once because i asked him to tell me how our mothers day brunch was gonna work so i could explain it to the rest of the crew. and he uses the most fowl language to the employees. sometimes refering to females who have big butts as "phat phat" underage females as well. making comments about our weight and other body parts. they were making us pay for the food. is this fair. i really want to report this restaurant but I'm not sure how to go about it.I really hate my job right now and I wanna quit. But I have to find a new job first. Plus I don't feel like i should quit without tryna do something about this if in fact what they are doing is agains labor laws or corporate laws. Since 2005, the open-borders group has hauled in at least $7.6 million in the form of outright subsidies, community development tax credits, government-issued bonds, grants and heavens knows what else. It's used tax dollars to fund day laborer sites, organize a protest against Arizona's new immigration law, and even file a lawsuit against a Frederick County sheriff for arresting a woman wanted on a deportation warrant. Even while they were staring at a $2 billion budget deficit earlier this year, state legislators defeated, by a lopsided vote of 47-89, an amendment offered by House Minority Leader Anthony O'Donnell, R-Calvert, to strip CASA of yet another $200,000 the group was allocated from the state's capital budget. CASA in Action has already raised $45,000 from 5,000 dues-paying members, according to Kim Propeack, director of community organizing and political action. CASA organizers say they hope to harness the "enormous unrealized potential of the Latino vote" in Maryland, where, thanks in large part to political pressure from CASA, local elections officials cannot demand proof of citizenship and election judges cannot even demand to see a voter's ID. The PAC's current agenda includes issuing Maryland driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, fighting efforts to make English the official state language, lobbying for more funding for nonprofits like CASA, and stopping raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. Evidence of CASA's political clout was recently on display. Despite deep budget cuts that forced some county employees to take unpaid furloughs, the Hyattsville-based group was miraculously spared. It received $2.1 million from local governments ($1.3 million from Montgomery County alone) even though its other sources of revenue include deep-pocketed billionaire George Soros' Open Society Institute and Citgo, Venezeula's state-owned oil company. The October 2008 grand opening of CASA's $13.8 million Multicultural Service Center in a restored mansion in Langley Park ("a casa for CASA") was attended by a long list of Democratic bigwigs, including Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., Rep. Donna Edwards, D-Prince George's, Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler, state Comptroller Peter Franchot, Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson and Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett. "I do everything [current CASA President] Gustavo [Torres] tells me to do," Maryland House Ways and Means Committee Chairwoman Sheila Hixson, D-Montgomery, said only half-jokingly. Not surprisingly, former CASA President Thomas Perez, a former aide to the late Sen. Ted Kennedy who is now head of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, took the lead in preparing the federal government's lawsuit against Arizona's new immigration law. While head of CASA, Perez demanded in-state tuition for illegal immigrants and opposed enforcement of deportation orders. The group even pressured Montgomery County Public Schools officials to offer academic credit to students who attended a pro-illegal-immigration rally in D.C. More recently, Torres unilaterally declared that the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration has "absolutely no right to ask for people's Social Security number or immigration status to get a drivers license" -- in direct contradiction of the federal Real ID Act. No elected public official has yet had the temerity to set him straight. This question isn't about me, it's about my friend. he's been asking me about this and I don't know what to tell him. At the moment he's 23. His dad was never really in his life. He works in New York while his family lives in Maryland. Now, my friend tells me his dad was never around. He'd be gone months and even years sometimes only to come back for a week or two like he was never gone and then leave again. He'd work and send money back, but that was it. He never called home where his wife, son, daughter, and father-in-law were living. He never sent birthday cards or anything all his children's lives. My friend says his grandfather was more of a father to him than his actual dad! A few months ago my friend's sister had a baby girl that she didn't want and practically dumped her into my friend's arms. HIs father couldn't even show up for the birth, but he showed up a few months later to yell at him for not making his sister care for the baby. So I was talking with my therapist about a writing assignment she had me do, and I wrote my opinions on some things. She said that they were heavy handed, strict, compassionate, and fascist. However she is heavily liberal, and opposed to weapons in the home, and seems to think that people who own guns could blow any moment. For example she said one of the reasons is that the gun becomes and option in domestic arguments, and that your morel likely to shoot family. I told her that areas with the most gun restrictions have the most gun crime but she didn't believe me. But here are the opinions I wrote. These are not yet complete and would need more programs to go alongside them. She said by themselves they are fascist but would be less fascist if there were support networks. Here they are:/ Welfare: 1. Aid is capped at 3 years if the Receiver is not disabled. If the Receiver is disabled, in that case they can be put on more permanent social security. 2. Cap aid at 2 children. Additional children born on welfare will not be covered. However if the recipient had more before he/she started receiving aid they will be covered. 3. A program will be run for job placement in needed sectors, in jobs that also cover the cost of living. Any one refusing to join the program will have benefits cut. Illegal Immigration: 1. Check records for that persons name and if they pay taxes. 2. Check if they speak English. 3. Send illegal aliens currently in custody back to their home country. 4. Send border states militias to the border on armed patrol. 5. Complete fences along Mexican border. 6. Round up and deport known illegal aliens. 7. Make English de jure, along side its current de facto status, the official language in the U.S. 8. Encourage states to institute laws similar to Arizona's SB1070. Gun control: 1. Eliminate gun free zones. They are easy slaughter zones for killers and an armed citizenry is the best defense against criminals. 2. Eliminate waiting periods for gun purchases. 3. Remove bogus assault weapons laws, which outlaw such features as barrel shrouds, pistol grips, large magazines, flash suppressors, and short barrels, all of which are very useful for a citizen defending themselves. 4. Eliminate bogus air gun laws, as these are absurdly restrictive. In D.C for example they are virtually banned, despite the fact that the injury rate from air guns is quite low. In D.C, air guns cannot be shipped to or from D.C limiting purchase inside D.C, except for the fact that there are no stores which sell them inside D.C; in addition, air guns can be used to teach good habits and gun safety, as well as hunting vermin and for fun. 5. Reform city gun laws, returning to D.C again, allow open and concealed carry laws, similar to Virginia's. 6. Expand Castle Doctrine to other States and cities, such as D.C DC voting rights: 1. DC residential areas should be ceded to Maryland, while keeping federal areas in their own jurisdiction. The residential area could be called Washington, Maryland, while the governmentall area would simply be the Federal District run directly by Congress. So what she said is that the welfare portion would create a hugely impoverished underclass, and she in general doesn't agree with any of them.Along with these would be job reform, economic reform, and education reform. No I do not cry.I didn't check to see if she was liberal.I'm willing to negotiate and bend these rules. The projects to make them viable would be very large I admit. I intend to adjust welfare to keep whole generations from living on it. moreResolved Question: When Is It Rape in your opinion?

excerpt... The Department of Justice is ignoring a new law aimed at protecting the right of American soldiers to vote, according to two former DOJ attorneys who say states are being encouraged to use waivers to bypass the new federal Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act. The MOVE Act, enacted last October, ensures that servicemen and women serving overseas have ample time to get in their absentee ballots. The result of the DOJ's alleged inaction in enforcing the act, say Eric Eversole and J. Christian Adams — both former litigation attorneys for the DOJ's Voting Section — could be that thousands of soldiers' ballots will arrive too late to be counted. "It is an absolute shame that the section appears to be spending more time finding ways to avoid the MOVE Act, rather than finding ways to ensure that military voters will have their votes counted," said Eversole, director of the Military Voter Protection Project, a new organization devoted to ensuring military voting rights. "The Voting Section seems to have forgotten that it has an obligation to enforce federal law, not to find and raise arguments for states to avoid these laws." Cornyn wrote, “If these are the positions of the DOJ, then they fly in the face of the clear statutory language, undermine the provisions in question, and jeopardize the voting rights of our men and women in uniform.” He said the language of the law makes it clear that there is no ambiguity when it comes to states' eligibility for being granted a waiver, and that the statute does not leave room for the Justice Department to decide whether to enforce its requirements. “If a state is not in compliance with the statute, there is little room for “dialogue” or negotiation, and the Voting Section should take immediate steps to enforce the law and safeguard military and overseas voting rights, including pursuing litigation whenever necessary,” Cornyn wrote. “The comments by the DOJ official, as reported in the NASS minutes, appear to ignore Congress’ clear legislative language and could facilitate the disenfranchisement of our men and women in uniform.” Cornyn, who discussed Eversole’s allegations at a meeting with Defense Department officials last week, called for Holder to immediately provide guidelines to state election officials; to ensure that states are required to abide by the law; and to provide Cornyn himself with a state-by-state breakdown of which states have already applied for waivers and which are expected to be in noncompliance with MOVE in the November midterm election. He also called for full transparency in the waiver process. A spokeswoman for the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, Xochitl Hinojosa, declined to comment, other than to say Cornyn’s letter is being reviewed. FoxNews.com obtained waiver applications submitted by Washington and Hawaii. Defense Department spokeswoman Major April Cunningham told FoxNews.com that New York, Delaware, Maryland, Alaska and Virgin Islands had also applied for waivers. (Cornyn's co-sponsor for the MOVE Act was New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, a Democrat.) "All waivers are currently under review. The Defense Department must respond, under the law, after consultation with the Department of Justice, no later than 65 days before the election, which is August 29, 2010," said Robert Carey, director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program. “The voting section has taken this haphazard approach to enforcing military voting law,” said Eversole. “The voting section is asserting itself into statute to make a statute that’s not ambiguous, ambiguous. Can you imagine any other agency giving prospective defendants advice like this?” “Everybody in Washington knows it doesn’t matter how good the law is; it comes down to who’s enforcing it,” said Adams. “This stuff should be transparent and online for the citizens of these states to comment on, the fact that it's being done behind closed doors tells you everything you need to know about how it will affect the voters.” Adams and Eversole separately pointed out that the DOJ’s website lacks any mention of the MOVE Act. In fact, the section on military voting includes the outdated and nonbinding 30-day recommendation for sending out ballots. There is no mention of the the current 45-day mandate. But the DOJ's online voting section includes a detailed section devoted to helping felons learn how get their voting rights back. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/28/exclusive-doj-stalls-voter-registration-law-military/ moreResolved Question: Lip Piercing helppp!?

A majority of likely voters say the federal government should take legal action against cities that provide safe havens to illegal immigrants and cut federal funds to so-called "sanctuary cities," a Rasmussen Reports survey shows. The survey, released Tuesday, said 54 percent support legal action against sanctuary cities and 60 percent support withholding federal funds from the jurisdictions. Critics of sanctuary cities say the Justice Department is acting unfairly by not pursuing such cities for breaking the law while taking legal action against Arizona for instituting state measures against illegal immigration. "The federal government should be suing San Francisco, which has refused to cooperate with the federal government in enforcing immigration laws," said Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William (Va.) County Board of County Supervisors. In 2007, Mr. Stewart was at the forefront of the issue, driving some of the county's toughest immigration laws. "Our belief is that President Obama should be suing mayors [of sanctuary cities], not Arizona," said Maryland state Delegate Patrick L. McDonough, Baltimore County Republican. Mr. McDonough said he plans to introduce two immigration laws during the next General Assembly session: one that calls for a state ban on sanctuary cities and another patterned after the Arizona law. A representative for U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. recently said a "big difference" exists between a state or locality choosing not to use resources to enforce a federal law and a state passing its own immigration policy that "actively interferes with federal law." Rasmussen found that 56 percent of those surveyed oppose the Justice Department's action against Arizona and that 61 percent favor legislation similar to Arizona's in their own state. Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco and the District of Columbia are among the major U.S. cities that have adopted sanctuary ordinances, which prohibit police officers and other municipal employees from asking people about their immigration status. The new Arizona law requires local police to check the immigration status of those who they suspect of being in the country illegally. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jul/27/voters-say-take-action-against-sanctuary-cities/ moreResolved Question: Can a Tenant in an apt. bldg. be denied having Direct TV?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTBuDIybwWw This 25-year-old Maryland Air National Guard sergeant Anthony Graber is facing 16 years in prison, Just because he posted this video on YouTube. Graber was cut off in traffic and stopped by this gun-wielding plainclothes officer after speeding down Interstate 95 in Maryland on his motorcycle. He was, rightly, charged with speeding. But state police didn’t like the fact that Graber posted his video on YouTube. So in April state police raided his parents’ home in Abingdon, Md., and confiscated his camera, computer and external hard drives. Then he was indicted on a charge of violating state wiretap laws by recording the trooper. Many of us were raised with the idea that the police are there to protect us. All too often those sworn to protect us are nothing more than abusive, power-mad thugs with the authority of the state behind their actions. So what we are learning is it is perfectly okay for police officers to record their encounters with suspects using dash cameras in their patrol cars and hidden cameras in their interrogation rooms, but if a citizen being accosted by police or witnessing police abuse records the incident the state will treat him like he’s John Dillinger. So much for the idea of “To protect and serve.”THE QUESTION: IS IT OK FOR A POLICE OFFICER TO VIDEO TAPE A CIVILIAN BUT NOT OK FOR A CIVILIAN TO TURN THE TABLES AT THEM? One more thing...maybe I'm missing something, because of the narrow view of the camera...and i don't know what the motorcycle rider did (except the obvious...speeding) but if a man approaches my vehicle looking and acting like that, there will be a shooting!! When you flat out lie to the American people to get them to accept the law you want to pass, and then flat out lie to members of Congress (in your own party none the less!), in order to get the last few holdouts to vote your way, that is really bad, but what is even worse is when it relates to something as monumental as the healthcare bill. Lie : "The healthcare bill will not fund abortions" Truth : It is already being set up in two states... http://americaswatchtower.com/2010/07/18/obamacare-maryland-to-offer-federally-funded-abortions/ Lie : "The insurance opt-out fee is not a tax" Truth: Now we will consider it a tax so it will be easier to push through the courts? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/18/health/policy/18health.html Lie : "If you like your current doctor, you can keep them." Truth : Not necessarily, and even if possible, it may cost you... http://americaswatchtower.com/2010/07/18/obamacare-want-to-keep-your-doctor-pay-a-premium/ Is this the "change" and the "transparency" that people really wanted? Seems like more of the same ol', same ol' to me. At least Clinton and Bush Jr. waited until their 2nd terms to bring on the lies and deceptions...Bush Sr. learned the hard way with his "read my lips...no new taxes" line, and he was not reelected. Regardless of political party or political view, isn't hard to support someone who makes such bold-faced lies as the President has with the healtcare bill? How can he be trusted on any other bill he proposes down the road?@ leo - As always, another good point by my opponent. I will defend my position on healthcare reform in that I am an advocate of tort reform, and was always for opening up competition across state lines. As for the abortion thing, I personally do not care about how abortions are handled...I just wanted to point out another lie by the President...I just don't like liars in the oval office...and this is one of many reasons I did not like Bush or Clinton as well. moreTop Maryland Laws Links
