Voting Question: I got a photo speeding ticket in Tennessee and I live in Maryland. What if I don't pay it?

The ticket is for going 57 in a 45. On the website, it specifically says: The fine amount is $50.00 and the court costs are $40.00. There is no late fee. A violation detected through the use of an automated traffic safety camera is a non criminal offense for which you cannot go to jail. Like a parking ticket, a Violation detected by a traffic camera is NOT part of the violator's driving record. Therefore, a finding that the Violation was committed, either by payment or after a hearing, will not be reported to the Department of Licensing. After seeing this statement, why should I have to pay this nonsense? more

Voting Question: Speeding citation help: 86MPH in 70MPH Zone, Georgia (Camden Cty, I-95), Live in MD?

Looking for legal advice on what is best to do. I live in Maryland. Aug 20 - I had gotten pulled over by Camden Cty Sherriff in Camden County, GA, on Interstate 95 Northbound about 10 miles after the GA/FL state line for speeding. 86MPH in a 70MPH zone by RADAR. I was pretty much traveling at about the same speed as traffic, I was somewhat in front of the pack of maybe 5 cars in the right lane. I was using Cruise Control, I'm sure I was not doing any more than 80-82. I had told the Sherriff I couldn't had been doing 86MPH, he asked if I wanted to check the accuracy of the RADAR, I declined because I do not know the correct procedures to check them for accuracy. For all I know, my speedometer in the rental, my GPS, and the RADAR could be anywhere "accurate". He wrote something down on the remarks section, but I can't make it out what it says on my copy (everything else is readable). I've done some research myself. Under GA Super speeders law and traffic laws, it looks like I could be facing at least a $300 fine, 2 points and a misdemeanor charge. All would be reported back to MD. Very ridiculous for a criminal misdemeanor charge, in my opinion, for only a speeding citation. Not sure as to how much the fine is actually is yet since the citation seems to have not been processed yet. Looking for advice on what's best to do (hire an attorney to represent me or to simply pay the citation).I would prefer to pay a higher fine than to take 2 points and a misdemeanor charge. And I have not admit to guilt (court date is set for Oct. 6). I've been pulled over twice years ago for a speeding citation (56/35 Zone) and a Stop Sign, both in Md. Got PBJ for both and the fines for either was not more than $100. Both are not on my records anymore to my belief. more

Resolved Question: Is it about time Get tough on drunken-driver illegals hundreds of alcohol-related arrests of warrants posted?

The silence from Maryland's political leadership was deafening when the news broke that Carlos Montano, an illegal alien, was arrested in Virginia for crashing into and killing an innocent Catholic nun while driving under the influence ("Suspect in fatal accident an illegal," Page 1, Aug. 3). Politicians in Montgomery and Prince George's counties, which are known sanctuaries for illegal aliens, are quite aware of the dangerous arrest-and-release policies used for drunken-driving and related cases involving illegal aliens. For counties that pride themselves on public health and safety issues such as cigarette-smoking bans, trans-fat elimination, fireworks restrictions, motorcycle and bicycle helmet requirements and severe drunken-driving regulations, this revolving-door policy for illegals stands out like a sore thumb. A careful review of Montgomery County's outstanding criminal and traffic warrants posted online reveals hundreds of alcohol-related arrests of illegals. In Prince George's County, the problem is even more pronounced, with outstanding warrants numbering in the tens of thousands. Why does the solid bloc of Democratic politicians in both counties assume that illegal aliens cited for drunken driving and related automotive violations (such as driving without a license or insurance) would actually show up in court for their crimes? These fugitives already broke the law getting to our state and have no respect for our system of justice. We all know too well that automobiles can be killing machines. For the safety of Maryland residents, it's time to tighten immigration-enforcement restrictions to include all driving violations. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/aug/19/get-tough-on-drunken-driver-illegals/ more

Voting Question: Driving with a suspended license (unknown) in Maryland?

Hi, I was recently pulled over for exceeding the speed the limit, when the cop came to give me a ticket he said my license was suspended. I had no idea it was suspended, he advised me to have it reinstated before I go to court. I go to court tomorrow and I had my license reinstated. I have never been to court for anything before and more importantly never for a suspended license. I had been pulled over a few months before this and was in an accident but no other officers had ever said my license was suspended until the most recent one. According to the MVA it had been suspended sometime last year. I did everything to have it reinstated including the "Driver Improvement" program. Can someone please tell me what to expect and any pointers for traffic court tomorrow? Also my time is 8:45 I wanted to get there about 7:30 as I don't want to be there all day, is this a good idea? Many thanks and appreciation.... more

Resolved Question: Traffic ticket for running a red light in Orlando?

I was in Orlando three weeks ago. I was coming off an exit ramp and exited the ramp onto the road. I looked to my left for traffic and noticed a cop at the light. I continued onto the road as I would off any other ramp. Next thing I know he is behind me with his lights on. He told me I had run a red light at the bottom of the ramp and it was painted on the road no turn on red. Well I had two teenage kids in the car that did not see the light either. Later that day I went back with on of the kids and a video camera. We drove through the same intersection the first time and did not see the light until we were about ten feet from the intersection. We completely missed it on the video camera. We went a second time to make sure it was on the video. There is a single signal for the ramp and it is mounted high and to the right. Not very visible until you are right at the end of the ramp. I am not sure how many points I will get, the citation does not indicate that. I am from Maryland and would rather not pay the $219 and get points. I have not had a moving citation in 20 years. Is it worth flying to Florida to Challenge this. I have created photo images of the ramp and intersection that show the light is difficult to see. Any thoughts would be great. thanks more

Resolved Question: How much do you want to bet these people turn out to be liberals?

Even if it's NOT forced labor, they could NOT find any record of pay or of them taking taxes out for her...is this just another typical liberal home, except this time exploiting a LEGAL immigrant? excerpt... A 55-year-old housekeeper sued her Montgomery County employers Tuesday, alleging the family of three kept her in a "forced labor" arrangement and didn’t pay her for more than four months of work. An attorney for the family denied the allegations. And in earlier conversations with Montgomery County police detectives, the housekeeper said she was allowed to leave the employer’s house and that she had access to a telephone, according to a police spokeswoman. The detectives didn't find any indication of human trafficking, which they have pursued in other cases, and didn't file charges in the matter, law enforcement officials said. Attorneys for the domestic worker, Janet Gonzalez, a legal immigrant from Venezuela, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Maryland on Tuesday. Casa de Maryland played an active role in the case, and called a news conference Tuesday morning to announce the filing. Resolved Question: If you detect the devil's hand in current events, you may be closer to the truth than you think.?

Illuminati Defector Details Pervasive Conspiracy Satanic Cult Plans 'Fourth Reich' By Henry Makow, Ph.D 10-14-2 If you detect the devil's hand in current events, you may be closer to the truth than you think. A woman who was raised in the Illuminati cult describes a powerful secret organization comprising 1% of the U.S. population that has infiltrated all social institutions and is covertly preparing a military takeover. Her revelations cast "the war on terror" and "homeland security" in a new light. "Svali" is the pseudonym of a woman, age 45, who was a mind "programmer" for the cult until 1996. She was the sixth head trainer in the San Diego branch and had 30 trainers reporting to her. She has risked her life to warn humanity of the Illuminati's covert power and agenda. She describes a sadistic Satanic cult led by the richest and most powerful people in the world. It is largely homosexual and pedophile, practices animal sacrifice and ritual murder. It works "hand in glove" with the CIA and Freemasonry. It is Aryan supremacist (German is spoken at the top) but welcomes Jewish apostates. It controls the world traffic in drugs, guns, pornography and prostitution. (http://www.suite10 1.com/article.cfm/ritual_abuse/40931) It may be behind political assassination, and "terrorism," including Sept. 11, the Maryland sniper and the Bali bomb blast. It has infiltrated government on a local, state and national level; education and financial institutions; religion and the media. Based in Europe, it plans a "world order" that will make its earlier attempts, Nazism and Communism, look like picnics. One other detail: these people are not very happy. Svali's courageous testimony explains why our children are no longer taught civic values, why they are being habituated to homosexuality and violence, and why our "culture" is descending into nihilism and sexual depravity. It raises the possibility that George W. Bush and his Administration are Illuminists, and suggests that much of the world "elite" may be engaged in a mind-boggling criminal conspiracy. In March 2000, Svali began writing a monthly column for survivors of Illuminati ritual abuse at Suite101.com. (http://www.suite101.com /articles.cfm/ritual_abuse) In December 2000, H.J. Springer, the editor of CentrExNews, com contacted Svali and conducted an extended 18-part interview with her by email, which is reproduced on line and is copyrighted. (http://www.centr exnews.com/columnists/Svali/archive.html) "I am convinced she is the real McCoy," Springer wrote to me. "I have personally relayed numerous email messages to her from other members ritually abused, brainwashed, raped, sexually abused people & you name it-- some of them confirming to me her story. So I have absolutely no doubt that Svali has been part of the Illuminati since childhood." I also trust Svali's testimony because it confirms my intuition and research. Everything fits: from the dead hand that seems to suppress humanity to why Clinton gave secret technology to the Chinese to reports of concentration camps in the US. It explains why certain people I know behave in a conspiratorial way. I thank Svali for giving me a frightening but incredible key to understanding the world. A friend warned me to be skeptical of a hoax and offered to help me confirm her personal story. I accepted his offer. I urge you to read her entire testimony and make up your own mind. Read "Part One" to "Part 18" first, starting at the middle of the list and working up. With their permission, here are highlights of Svali's correspondence with CentrExnews.com's H.J. Springer. I have also included material from her article "Are the Illuminati Taking Over the World?" (http://www.suite10 1.com/article.cfm/ritual_abuse/53556) Pervasive Presence Svali: "The Illuminati are present in every major metropolitan center in the United States. The Illuminati believe in controlling an area through its: banks and financial institutions (guess how many sit on banking boards? You'd be surprised) Local government: guess how many get elected to local city councils? Law: children are encouraged to go to law school and medical school. Media: others are encouraged to go to journalism school, and members help fund local papers. Beliefs Svali: "The Illuminati is a group that practices a form of faith known as "enlightenment". It is Luciferian, and they teach their followers that their roots go back to the ancient mystery religions of Babylon, Egypt, and Celtic druidism. They have taken what they consider the "best" of each, the foundational practices, and joined them together into a strongly occult discipline. Many groups at the local level worship ancient deities such as "El", &quot more

Resolved Question: Next, these liberal values are just peachy, don't you think? Prison for videotaping a traffic stop?

This is pure liberal family values at heart... excerpt... Anthony Graber, a Maryland Air National Guard staff sergeant, faces up to 16 years in prison. His crime? He videotaped his March encounter with a state trooper who pulled him over for speeding on a motorcycle. Then Graber put the video — which could put the officer in a bad light — up on YouTube. It doesn't sound like much. But Graber is not the only person being slapped down by the long arm of the law for the simple act of videotaping the police in a public place. Prosecutors across the U.S. claim the videotaping violates wiretap laws — a stretch, to put it mildly. Read more: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2008566,00.html#ixzz0vly6IlRq more

Resolved Question: WHO ARE THEY PROTECTING?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTBuDIybwWw This 25-year-old Maryland Air National Guard sergeant Anthony Graber is facing 16 years in prison, Just because he posted this video on YouTube. Graber was cut off in traffic and stopped by this gun-wielding plainclothes officer after speeding down Interstate 95 in Maryland on his motorcycle. He was, rightly, charged with speeding. But state police didn’t like the fact that Graber posted his video on YouTube. So in April state police raided his parents’ home in Abingdon, Md., and confiscated his camera, computer and external hard drives. Then he was indicted on a charge of violating state wiretap laws by recording the trooper. Many of us were raised with the idea that the police are there to protect us. All too often those sworn to protect us are nothing more than abusive, power-mad thugs with the authority of the state behind their actions. So what we are learning is it is perfectly okay for police officers to record their encounters with suspects using dash cameras in their patrol cars and hidden cameras in their interrogation rooms, but if a citizen being accosted by police or witnessing police abuse records the incident the state will treat him like he’s John Dillinger. So much for the idea of “To protect and serve.”THE QUESTION: IS IT OK FOR A POLICE OFFICER TO VIDEO TAPE A CIVILIAN BUT NOT OK FOR A CIVILIAN TO TURN THE TABLES AT THEM? One more thing...maybe I'm missing something, because of the narrow view of the camera...and i don't know what the motorcycle rider did (except the obvious...speeding) but if a man approaches my vehicle looking and acting like that, there will be a shooting!! I carry, legally...and here he is pulling a gun at me and there is no indication whatsoever that he's a cop. May be he was right to stop the cyclist... I don’t know. But coming out of a plain vehicle, in plain clothes, carrying a gun, no ID, no badge? In every “Deadly Force” training scenario I’ve ever trained & participated in, he is an immediate threat, and that is a shooting situation! more

Resolved Question: My boyfriend was arrested for a warrant from PA and they are saying there will be NO BAIL. Is this legal?

In the past he has had his troubles but he hasn't been in any trouble the past year and has been paying his fines on time. When the police came they actually walked in the back sliding door and arrested him. It occurred in Maryland and they said he would be exradited to PA. Haven't heard from him since shouldn't he at least received a phone call?? more

Resolved Question: How do I know if I received any traffic violation points?

So I was pulled over by cop for failing to change lane properly. I received a $90 ticket, but I do not remember the cop telling me whether or not I received any points. I could not find any section on the ticket where indicate the number of points for this particular violation. I really do not want to go to the court if I did not receive any points. Voting Question: Best Apartments in Southern Maryland?

I am in the military, and I just received orders for Walter Reed. I was looking into residing maybe in Silver Spring area. Everywhere I search online there is a complaint about theft. This really stresses me out a lot in addition to the traffic and expensive cost of living. I know there is no way I am going to avoid crime completely. However, I will not move into an area or complex where crime is prevalent. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Should I appeal court verdict on traffic violation?

Here is the story. I received a traffic citation from a police officer because I was "driving without state inspection sticker" in Virginia (I am a Virginia resident just FYI) on 05/01/2010. The reason my car doesn't have a VA state inspection sticker is because I purchased the vehicle in Maryland (Maryland doesn't require state inspection stickers placed on their cars). The car was inspected from the dealer prior to sale. Under Virginia law I thought had 12 months from the date of purchase to get a VA state inspection but the officer gave me the citation still. I went to court today (06/16/10) and plead NOT GUILTY. The judge decided to rule against me =( I explained that much stated above in about 45secs-1 minute and he made his decision right away. I had proof too that my car was inspected at the time of the citation (by the car distributor) and paper work showing my purchase date but the judge was eager to send me on my way, I was never given the chance to show him anything. He did lower the fine but still I had to pay. So my question is, should I appeal or did I not understand the law correctly and just accept the hit? If it is truly my fault I will live with it but I feel like this is not fair. I believe I wasn't allowed the chance to properly state my case, it was my first time in court I didn't want to disrespect the judge but now I know how everything works. Let me know please any help would be great. Thanks! Here is the link to VA's State Police website where the law can be found. Scroll down to 'FAQ' and you should see it: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Safety.shtm#InspectionProgram more

Resolved Question: Traveling from Maryland to Pensacola, Florida.?

I will be traveling from Baltimore Maryland to Pensacola, Florida on a upcoming Saturday. I've gotten advice from multiple people and each one seems to have a different way they would like to go. In your opinion which way is the easiest to travel? I'm mostly worried about traffic. Some of the routes offered has been: I-95 down to Jacksonville then I-10 over. That hits all the major cities along the East coast but it is 4 lanes the entire way. I-95 to I-85 to I-65. This one is the shortest but it hits Atlanta and I hear that gets crazy and with traffic and it is also driving threw the Mountain range. Also once I hit Florida it's a 2 lane highway. I-70 to I-81 to I-40 to I-75 to I-65. This one seems the most complicated, and longest but it avoids the mountains and major cities. Thanks for any advice! more

Resolved Question: How's traffic and which northwest suburb of St. Louis should I live in? (St. Charles or Maryland Heights)?

I just graduated college, so I'm young, single and looking for a place to live that's close to where I'll be working (my employer is near the airport). Where would you recommend I live? I looked at apartments in St. Charles near the 228 exit off I-70, It seems like a pretty nice area, but I've heard that traffic gets bad at rush hour. I'm also looking at moving in or around Maryland Heights, but I don't know much about the area. Please let me know which area you would choose and why, and if you have a specific apartment complex you recommend I'd check that out too! Thanks for your help! more

Voting Question: Why were so many people driving around with their hazard lights on (June 2, 2010)?

I was driving on I-270 South (Maryland going into Virginia and DC) and ran into some traffic. I started to get around it and found that the cause was a long line of cars going a little slow and they all had their hazard lights flashing. I saw a police vehicle that was flashing its lights driving ahead of traffic, but I'm not sure if it was related or not as I got off the highway soon after. Later in the day I saw cars here and there with their hazard lights on driving around. What was that all about? more

Resolved Question: What is protocol for different state traffic laws?

There are so many different traffic laws, state-to-state, like what kind of tint you can have on your windows, whether your car needs a yearly inspection sticker, what kind of tires you have on your car while driving, coasting/idling, radar detectors, etc. For example, if you're driving a car with license plates and registration in West Virginia, and you get pulled over in Maryland, can they ticket you in relation to your inspection, plates, registration, insurance, etc? Or if you have tinted windows, under regulation in West Virginia (requires only 35% visibility) as opposed to Maryland/Pennsylvania (requires 70% visibility), can they site you for that? I should know this by now, but I still want verification and references. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: why are Marylanders so rude?

Why is it that Marylanders think they are good drivers, and why do they weave through traffic jams like they are more important than everyone else? Why do they all speed like insane maniacs? Why don't they just stay in Maryland where they belong? more

Resolved Question: How bad is the traffic driving into Washington D.C.?

I'm from Boston and I'm going to move to the DC/Maryland area for graduate school. It's really easy driving into Boston from the suburbs at certain times (anytime after 9pm for example) and I know NYC can be brutal driving into. So, how does DC compare to Boston and NYC? What are the best times to avoid lots of traffic? more

Resolved Question: Why do we need all these extra laws introduced on illegal aliens?

Why isn't Obama just enforcing the laws already on the books? Would we even need amendments or new laws, if they were enforced on federal levels? Shouldn't ICE be doing more towards the removal of illegal aliens, instead of refusing to pick up some illegals and returning them to society to break more laws? Why are states forced to introduce their own laws on illegal aliens? According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, state efforts to tackle immigration-related issues have climbed dramatically in recent years. In 2006, 570 immigration-related bills were introduced, resulting in the enactment of 84 new laws. In 2009, more than 1,500 bills were introduced, 222 laws were enacted and 131 resolutions were adopted. Many dealt with curbing or restricting benefits to those in the country illegally, human trafficking and other law-enforcement issues. In recent weeks, lawmakers in at least nine states - Utah, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Maryland and Ohio - have said they planned to model legislation after SB 1070. more

Resolved Question: What is the quickest way to get to Annapolis, MD from Washington, DC?

Specifically, I want to know what the quickest way is, by metro, train, bus, taxi, or any combination of the four, to get to St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, from American University in Washington, D.C. According to Google Maps, the distance is 36 miles but it would take about 55 minutes to travel by car (most likely due to traffic I'm guessing). I've heard people taking the metro to the New Carrollton station and then taking either a commuter bus or taxi from there, but the buses only run during rush hours (which might defeat the purpose of trying to avoid traffic) and a taxi trip from there would cost about $50. Even though it's expensive, Is that the quickest way possible? Or is there a quicker/less expensive way? more

Resolved Question: Which of these universities could I get into?

I am currently a junior. I live in Maryland. I just got a 1670 on the SAT (I will retake in June and hope to get closer to 1750-1850). I have an unweighted GPA of about 3.75 (Rank: 108/432), a weighted GPA of about 4.3 (Rank: 93/432). I am in the Spanish National Honor Society. I hope to be in the National Honor Society and Science National Honor next year also. Honors classes, and AP Spanish (4 on exam) in 10th grade, I am currently in AP Chemistry and AP Statistics. Next year I will probably take AP English, AP Physics, AP Calculus AB, and three electives. Work experience: summer job as a Camp Counselor for a few years and I want to have a job during school next year. Resolved Question: Is the Ocean City Maryland Boardwalk full of trouble?

I have heard mixed opinions about the boardwalk in the summer. I hear many people like it, but I also hear that it brings alot of trouble with it. I hear it has alot of drunk people causing trouble, harassing people for no reason, muggings etc. I know with as many people that come to Ocean City Maryland every summer, it is going to create some trouble, but how bad is the problem? For the most part is a nice place to go? Is the traffic as bad as I heard it was on route 50? One person made a you tube video saying it took her 8 hours, instead of 5 and a half hours to arrive. I have never been to this town, so I am wondering these things. I am curious about answers from locals, and tourist experiences, and reactions to Ocean City Maryland. more

Resolved Question: Can a cop pull two cars over for a running a red light?

I was leaving early in the morning for a trip, and the lights were still flashing yellow/flashing red. After I got gas, I noticed the lights had switched to a the standard solid/red. I kept on driving, then all of a sudden I looked up and realized, I had just run a solid red light. And the car next to me had as well. And as luck would have it, there was a cop right behind both off us. He began to pull the other car over, so I thought it was my lucky day, that the other guy got caught (not that I was trying to run a red, it was really an accident). Anyways, I kept driving for another block or so (at normal speed), and then I realized the cop was behind my car. I quickly pulled over and so did the cop. When he got to my window, he was really pissed off that I had tried to "flee the scene." I got a $140 ticket, my first offense ever (none over 19 months on a learner's permit and provisional license.) I'm only 18, still on a provisional license, just a few months away from getting my full license. I will also have to go to a driver improvement program if the conviction stands. Can he do that? And do I have any chance in court? What is a PBJ? Thanks. Oh, and it's under Maryland traffic laws. more

Resolved Question: Penalty for driving on a suspended license?

I forgot to pay a speeding ticket I was issued last summer (my one and only ever in 20 years of driving), and was pulled over a few days ago due to my license plate being obscured by a faded plastic cover. Found out my license had been suspended in Maryland due to nonpayment of the speeding ticket. I reside in Maryland but was pulled over in Virginia, so my license was not confiscated, but I was not allowed to drive until the suspended license issue was taken care of. I took care of the ticket the next day and got my license reinstated, but was told that I could actually be put in jail over this after I go to court for driving on a suspended license as it's considered as big a crime as a DWI. Is this true? If so, what kind of jail time are we talking?? I have no criminal history, and just the one speeding ticket, so it's not like I have a sordid history of traffic violations or anything. We do plan to hire a lawyer to help get this all taken care of, but I need to be prepared for the worst. more

Resolved Question: What is the timeframe for New York City traffic?

Resolved Question: Do you have to go to court after receiving a traffic citation?

I'm in the state of Maryland (since state laws differ), it was for speeding (89 in a 50), the officer marked the fine amount; but the box for "you must appear for trial when notified by court" is not checked in and neither is the other box about appearing. So do I have to appear or just pay the fine?I recieved the ticket early Friday morning, around 1 a.m. This is the first time I've ever received a ticket so I am new to the whole process more

Resolved Question: 25 mile commute to college a bad or good idea?

I'm transferring to University of Maryland: Baltimore County next fall. I don't have many friends who go there. My friend who goes to Towson, which is about 25 miles away, asked me to room with him in an apartment outside of his campus. Both are connected by interstate 695 and usually can be an easy 25 minute drive. The city of Baltimore is in between these two campuses though and sometimes traffic can get heavy. I drive a Prius so I am not worried about fuel cost, just time constraining issues. Does anybody have any personal experience or thoughts to help me make a decision? more

Resolved Question: Why am I responsible for a photo enforcement ticket if they cannot prove that I was the one that was driving?

I received a photo enforcement ticket for going 11 mph over the speed limit (40 m.p.h.) on an interstate in Washington D.C. (1). Why in the world in the speed limit on the interstate 40 m.p.h.? (2). What is the rationale for issuing a ticket to the registered owner of a car, rather than the actual person driving? How do they know that someone (say, a valet at a restaurant I was eating at) didn’t take my car for a spin, unbeknownst to me? (3). Are cops required to be college educated? They sure don’t seem to be? [comment unrelated to photo enforcement ticket] (4). Haven’t some states ruled that photo enforcement unconstitutional? (5). Doesn’t it seem like an abuse that, during February 2010, D.C. issued more photo enforcement tickets (the combined fines totaling upwards of $390,000,000) than there are residents of D.C., Maryland, and Virginia combined? (6). Why is justice out of reach of ordinary citizens? We like to talk the big talk about “justice” and “freedom” and “responsibility”…we pay our taxes to dress our police officers up in their cute, spiffy little uniforms and buy them cars with flashy lights on top…we follow, unquestioningly, whatever the black-robed supreme court justices tell us, but when it comes down to fighting a traffic ticket…you have to have hundreds of dollars to hire attorneys…who, in turn, has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, and years of their lives, studying the law. Isn’t justice is out of reach? Aren’t police officers just hired thugs who parade behind the empty symbolism of badge and the cold metal of a gun? P.S. It does not matter if I was actually speeding or not...my guilt it under scrutiny, but rather the efficiency and justness of photo enforcement ticketing more

Resolved Question: What constitutes an "Emergency Lane Change" and is it legal in Maryland?

I was on a two lane highway and the vehicle in front of me broke down and began to slow down VERY quickly, it was in an intersection and I was afraid that the breaking down vehicle was going to trap me in the intersection. I turned on my turn signal, checked for traffic behind me, (there was none) and quickly accelerated around the disabled vehicle, then signaled to get back into my original lane. Was this legal? If not, what would the proper procedure have been? more

Resolved Question: What is your opinion on this Another Illegal Alien Sues Over Arrest?

In the latest of several lawsuits filed by illegal immigrants against U.S. law enforcement agencies, a Mexican woman claims that an Arizona sheriff’s department mistreated her during a workplace raid that led to the arrest of dozens of undocumented workers. For three years Celia Alvarez used a fake identity to work at a Phoenix landscaping company that was raided last fall by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department. Alvarez, who has four U.S.-born anchor babies, was among the 60 illegal immigrants arrested in the operation. In a federal complaint she accuses Maricopa Sheriff’s deputies of negligence and mistreatment for arresting and interrogating her. Alvarez also claims that deputies violently struck her and denied her medical care for several weeks during her two-month detention. She is seeking damages for illegal search and seizure as well as assault. The arrest also traumatized her children, Alvarez says, especially her youngest because he was still breastfeeding at the time and his mother was not available to properly nourish him. She asserts that the incident has marked her for a lifetime and hurt her kids, who as U.S.-born citizens collect public assistance. The struggling, unemployed illegal immigrant with four young children assures she’s not interested in the money she “could get out of this,” but rather in denouncing the “abuse, cruelty and inhumanity” of how she was treated by the local sheriff, which she worries will “go after more people.” This seems to be part of a growing trend among illegal immigrants and their advocate pro bono attorneys to sue law enforcement officials for doing their job and local governments for enforcing their measures. In the last few months alone legal action has been taken against an Ohio sheriff deputy who helped deport a Mexican with false identification cards, a Maryland officer who arrested an illegal Salvadoran woman and federal agents who apprehended a group of illegal aliens in a Connecticut immigration raid. A few weeks ago a group of undocumented day laborers sued a southern California city (Costa Mesa) for banning them from seeking work on public streets. The lawsuit actually stems from the arrest by local police of a dozen illegal alien day laborers who violated the city’s anti-solicitation ordinance. On a positive note, a Rhode Island state trooper sued for racial profiling after detaining a group of illegal aliens during a traffic stop was recently exonerated by a federal appeals court that determined the officer acted appropriately. http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2010/feb/another-illegal-alien-sues-over-arrest more

Voting Question: Letter to Judge on traffic ticket?

I recently got a parking ticket and my vehicle got towed. I went to court and the judge did reduce my fine but since the verdict was guilty i would not be able to get a refund of the towing fee which is a really big amount and in these time that money could be put to better use. I'd like to know if it is worth writing a letter to the judge explaining the situation in more detail and requesting for some assistance. Do judges even acknowledge such practices. I know i am guilty and dont argue that. But a not-guilty verdict will definitely help. I am in the state of Maryland if that helps. more

Resolved Question: motorcycle or car?? which should i try to get?

im a sophomore in high school right now, im 15 and im about 5'6 in height -it is relevent i was wondering about buying a motorcycle or just driving the suv we have, we have a 2002 izuzu trooper and a 2008 saab 97x aero, but im not getting near that for like 6 years. i am very much into cars and bikes. since i could talk i was able to name all the cars on the street, and from time to time ill try to identify the cars i see on the highway ( oncoming traffic so its a speed challenge) i usually get all them right. Anyways i thought that it would be fun to get a motorcycle whenever the law permitted i think its 18 for maryland. im also a big biking fan i learned to bike when i was 4 ( 2 wheels) i bike around very fast ( top speed ever would be 30mph) and have come close to being hit a few times ( about 7-8 times) from stupid cars ( jk i love them) i have what you could call a dangerous attraction to speed. i can drive fine its just that i need to work on braking smoothness ( i dont slam on the brakes though) . if i were to settle for the car then i would just be as is and drive the SUV, or the bike. for the bike i would have to work a couple of summers and star saving up money. my parents are afraid for me because of the risk involved in biking, my uncle has had a few bikes. they are trying to keep me away i guess. if i got he bike id prob start with a 500cc or 250cc. but i was also thinking that i should save up for a nice car one im out of college. im only considering a bike because of its size, and power-to-weight ratio, which always beat car. if u read this whole thing thanks, so what do u think i should do, 1- get a bike 2-stay with that isuzu trooper till after college more

Resolved Question: Can i take someone to court on a count of fraud/time wasted/and gas?

I responded to a craigslist add to buy an xbox for 200 dollars. this person orgional said he was comign to my house to sell it to me, but it turned into meeting halfway, to me going from va to md to meet him. in total i spent from 2-7 going where he told me to. i basically waited in part of maryland he told me to as he made a billion excuses for why hes running late.(drive was 30 mins so its not like i spent much of this time driving to md) my favorite excuse was he took his mom to ER. he also claimed traffic was an issue(i was there and there was no traffic wahtsoever in middle of the day) he eventually told me to meet him at a wendy's on rockville pike where i waited for over an hour. (i spent previous wait time in a random parking lot in city he told me to go to. he told me id get the adress when i was in city. and he kept promising to give me phone number. i gave him both my nubmer and address several times. he never called. so as i was waiting at wendys he kept saying how he wanted to meet outside and blah blah. so eventaully after waiting for hours and realizing this guy is playing with me i start searching whitepages for the last name carey (his email address had carey in it) i find his mom and she says he will be back around 8 from night classes!!! so on my way home i get a call from him verbally assaulting me calling me a stalker for looking up his phone number(i never said anything to his mom except if kevin was there) and he claims he sold it to a friend at around 2 (meaning he was toying with me the WHOLE TIME!!!!) so then i call his momw hen i get home and she said he never even had an xbox and that he is a pathological liar. I wasted sooooo much gas driving around and got caught in so much traffic because of him in all this went from 2-8:30 but 2-7 is when i was in md waiting. can i make a case from this? more

Resolved Question: Saw child in dangerous living conditions, what do i do?

I work for a satellite company and today while installing in a home a few towns over from my own in maryland, I saw 4 children living a home that was NOT fit for children. There was black mold all over the kitchen, trash EVERYWHERE, car batteries near the sink on the kitchen table, roaches everywhere, mold smell, and to make it better 5 gallons of kerosene in the living room with 3 kerosene heaters in the house with a STRONG smell of gas and the fumes where not ventilated at all. I generally do not get involved in other peoples business or what i see at work (its almost a weekly thing to go into a home and see obvious drug trafficking and other illegal activities). What can i do? I want to remain anonymous but i want someone to take these children out of there current living courters, it is NOT a place where a child needs to live. more

Voting Question: What is the best way to avoid getting a point on my license for Failure to Obey Traffic Device in MD?

I received my first traffic ticket today in Maryland. The violation was 21-201 a - Failure to Obey Traffic Device. I turned down a side street and made a U-Turn so that I could go back in the other direction. Me and everyone else who made the U-Turn were pulled over shortly thereafter. The officer told me that there was a sign stating that U-Turns were not allowed. Me and hundreds of others make the U-Turn everyday and have never seen the sign. I went and looked and the sign is so close to the turn that you will not recognize it if you are making the right onto that street. I don't care about the fine. It's the points that I don't want. What is my best course of action? Thanks all. more
