So from high school, as a result of severe laziness, i have had a 2.8 unweighted, but 3.1 weighted. i think im very intelligent, but ive not been working hard. Here's all the classes I've taken in my high school so far. the weight on honors is .5, but for AP and GT(gifted and talentted) its 1. 9th Grade: AP US Hist. Now I'm going to turn myself around my senior year and get around a 3.57 or higher for unweightted, but like a 4.0-4.2 weighted. because thats what i usually got in the beginning of the year then i would get lazy. Will my attempted suicide affect my chances of getting into college? So I attempted suicide at the age of 16. I have reasons which I won't get into. I suffered from anxiety and severe depression. The police got involved and it was an overall reallyy messy situation. I'm not sure if it went on my criminal or medical records. I've been to countless therapy sessions and I was admitted to a psych ward. I can honestly say that I am genuinely happy and my life is back on track. :) However, I feel as though my past is coming back to haunt me. Is my suicide attempt going to have an impact on whether or not I get into the college of my choice?? Please be honest and I'd reallyyy appreciate concrete answers (no "i thinks" lol) Also, when they ask if I have any criminal charges placed against me in my college applications should I check "yes" or "no"? I don't want to check "yes" because I'm pretty sure attempted suicide is a medical situation, not criminal. I also don't want to check "no" just in case i'm wrong. I don't want to seem like a liar. moreResolved Question: Where can I get a UV black light tattoo in D.C.?

Although I don't have to worry about college for, like, two more years, I already am. I want to major in either English or Journalism, and have been looking for schools that can support this. I have already decided to apply to Yale (while they don't have a Journalism program they do have an English one), but I know I have to apply to more. My main choice besides Yale is University of North Carolina, preferably at Chapel Hill. They have a School of Journalism and Mass Communications, and one of their main majors is English. So the question is, is UNC a good school? I'm pretty sure it's First Tier but I'm not really sure and would love some feedback, whether you're a student there or know someone who is, or want to go there like I do. Thanks in advance! Oh and by the way, I live in Maryland, so I'm applying to UMD College Park also. I would also like if you could do a comparison on these schools, and thanks again! moreResolved Question: Anyone go to the University of Maryland College Park?

I am moving to Maryland in about January (I'm not sure, it may be earlier because we're going to Maryland to look at houses and if we find something, we'll be moving ASAP) Will moving mess up my credits since I'll be moving before the ending of the first semester? I messed up slightly freshman and sophomore year so I really want to try boosting up my gpa and doing some extracurricular and getting in some AP classes since colleges look for those. I really want to attend University of Maryland College Park, and it sounds like a tough school to get into but I really want to get in. So my questions: 1.) Will moving in the middle of junior year affect my credits? 2.) Any advice since I'm moving to a new state? Nervous about leaving the city I've been in all my life and going to miss my friends. I was getting a headache with this research about which school I should go . moreVoting Question: Is this appeal letter good enough?
I am a transfer student trying to get into University of Maryland: College Park. I am trying to get into the school of Chemical and Life Sciences. The requirements were EN101/102, Organic Chem 203/204, Calculus 181/182 and other simple stuff. I have taken all of them except EN102 which I am taking this summer session 2 at Montgomery College. I finished Organic 204 in summer session 1. I have a 3.58 GPA. What are the chances of the appeal being "accepted" and my decision being reversed? Dear Admissions personnel, (indent)I am appealing my rejection to admission into the University of Maryland because I would like to take full advantage of the high quality education offered at this formidable institution. After speaking to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, it seems that my application was rejected based on incomplete consideration of my academic transcript. At the time my application, I did not complete English 102 and Organic Chemistry 204; however I was registered for both classes during summer session I & II at Montgomery College. My transcripts did not indicate that I was preregistered for these classes and would be finished with them at the end of the summer. I am currently in the final weeks of English 102 after which both course grades will be on my transcript. I request that before a definitive decision is reached, my entire academic record be considered and as a result that I be admitted for the Fall semester at the University of Maryland, a very sought after environment for serious students such as myself. (indent)I received an A in Organic Chemistry 204 through hard work and determination. I have included a recommendation letter from my professor about my work and accomplishments in the class. My transcript indicates a strong pattern of success in courses of varying degrees of difficulty and I believe that I will succeed in my current English 102 class as well. The class is going well and I am aiming for an A in the class at its conclusion on August 13th. My professor is very impressed with my performance so far. (indent)The University of Maryland has a prestigious and rigorous science program which has a much after objective of my high school and MC career. At Maryland, I wish to pursue a degree in Cell Biology and Genetics from the College of Chemical and Life Sciences as a stepping stone for further studies in biotechnology. Along with being known for promoting a diverse learning environment, University of Maryland provides ample opportunities for developing research projects and undertaking relevant internships; I would like to take full advantage of this specialty and I believe that I would be a great fit in the University of Maryland. I come from a diverse background, being a Bengali-Swiss American and I know the value of hard work. My academic record and community service activities are proof of my aptitude and discipline. Frequent activity in class discussions are a part of my everyday classroom experience and a strategy that I look forward to using in the future. (indent)Please find that I have sent an updated official transcript from Montgomery College to your office but I have also attached an unofficial transcript as proof of my grade in Organic Chemistry 204 and my current enrollment in English 102. I sincerely ask that you reconsider your decision and admit me to the University of Maryland for the Fall semester based on the new and compelling information provided. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon. moreResolved Question: How do I change my dining plan at UMCP?

I live in Maryland and I really don't want to end up living in my hometown forever. I know it's a great place, but I want to get away. The University of Maryland, College Park is a great school, and it's almost perfect for me. But it's only one hour away from my house, at most. Does it really matter how far away from home you are? Or should I seriously consider somewhere else? moreResolved Question: Ways to get free room and board at UMCP (University of Maryland: College Park)?

What other methods have you college students acquired free room and board besides sports and merit scholarships that require a GPA above 3.2 lol?yea i begin in Fall 2011 moreResolved Question: How does my Appeal letter stack up?
I am a transfer student trying to get into University of Maryland: College Park. I am trying to get into the school of Chemical and Life Sciences. The requirements were EN101/102, Organic Chem 203/204, Calculus 181/182 and other simple stuff. I have taken all of them except EN102 which I am taking this summer session 2 at Montgomery College. I finished Organic 204 in summer session 1. I have a 3.58 GPA. What are the chances of the appeal being "accepted" and my decision being reversed? Dear Admissions personnel, (indent)Academic discipline is crucial to the learning process, but also personal discipline is what helps people move forward in life. Although I was dismayed at the University of Maryland’s decision to reject me from their storied institution, I did not see it as a time for anger and overreaction, but rather as a time for development. I learned that, through an appeal process, I could possibly reverse a decision which I believe is misguided. I do not think that a mere question of patience should hold me back from attending the University of Maryland. I wish to attend the University of Maryland so that I can attain a degree from the College of Chemical and Life Sciences in Cell Biology and Genetics and use it as a foundation for a career in biotechnology. University of Maryland is renowned for its science program, and I would very much desire to be a part of such a prestigious organization. (indent) However, I found that I had been rejected, not on the basis of grades, but on that of failure to meet requirements. There is no question that I have reached the GPA and credit requirements. Maybe I did not make it clear in my original statement, but I have been taking the classes that I would need to meet the requirements this summer. In the first summer session at Montgomery College, I completed Organic Chemistry II. I received an A in the course which has boosted my GPA to 3.58 (and I have included recommendation letters). Also, a course which I acknowledge that I am without, is English 102. Review of my transcript would show that I am taking this class right now as we speak, in the summer II session at Montgomery College. I have an exemplary academic record, and although I have not completed this course yet, English is my native language which I have spoken and written for my entire academic career. The actual completion of the course will be on August 13th, 2010. Through virtue of my academic record, I believe that I will have an above passing grade in this course and I will be able to provide a letter of recommendation. Rejection whilst not having all of the information to make a fully informed a decision would be seemingly premature. (indent)As is evident in my academic records, I have a history of success in all courses of various difficulty. It is through discipline that I have been able to achieve this success. I partake in active discussion with my classmates every day to further enhance my knowledge of the subject matter. Group discussion, I find, is also a good way to learn new perspectives on course material. I study my notes and read ahead every day so I can be prepared for the next class session. I plan on using all mediums of education to mold me into a better student who is immersed in the subject matter. I strongly ask that you reconsider your decision and admit me into the University of Maryland. My academic record is excellent and I believe that I can contribute a lot to your institution whilst getting an education that will further my life’s ambitions. moreResolved Question: medical school: I am going into my junior year. I'm from New York (even though I'm a huge Eagles fan) and I'm traveling to the University of Maryland in College Park, MD for a student leadership program. My parents are driving me down, but they don't want to drive down to pick me up, so I'm taking an Amtrak train from Union Station to Penn Station in New York. What is the best way to get from College Park, MD to Union Station. I called the college and they were absolutely no help. I could take a taxi but I would rather not. The best way I see is to take the green line to Fort Trotten and take the red to Union Station. I also see something about a MARC train and I don't know exactly how that works either. Can someone please help me out here? Thanks you in advance for all your help and great answers! On another note, why does the subway go outside the city? And also, no offense to anyone, but the New York subways and train systems are much better.NYC trains are more extensive and more reliable. And my dad told me that the platform lights up in DC when the train comes when he traveled to DC once. Is that true, because that is pretty bad @$$ moreResolved Question: Are overnight guests allowed at University of Maryland College Park dorms?
I was accepted as a freshman at umd college park for the spring semester. I do have a boyfriend who will travel occasionally and stay overnight to visit with me. If my roommates are comfortable with him crashing for a night I don't see a problem. I was wondering if overnight guests are permitted in the dorms at college park. HELP! lol moreResolved Question: civil environmental engineering or bioengineering?
Civil environmental engineering or bioengineering? I'm currently a sophomore majoring civil environmental engineering at University of Maryland College Park. After two years of engineering classes, I realized I have no interest in cement structural materials, yet environmental engineering, which is what I'm interested in, is a branch of civil engineering. I have to spend at least another two semesters taking cement structural classes before getting into the classes I'm interested in. Now I'm considering switching to bioengineering which relates more to living organisms and less with concrete structural materials, but it seems very abstract to me at this point since I know little about it. My goal is to major in engineering that is more related to living animals and environmental issues, and hoping to get job in government institute around DC area. Any suggestions? Very Appreciated :) moreVoting Question: what is the best choice out of these colleges/universities to attend for civil engineering degrees?
including: sports, campus, academic rank, anything. I am trying to decide between: The University of Maryland-College Park Penn State University Virginia Tech University of Virginia Cornell University Johns Hopkins University University of Delawarebtw. I read there were about 2700 colleges in the United States. Basically anyone from Ray Lewis to Vienna from 'The Bachelor' to Kenny Chesney have graduated from college. These weak schools like "University of Maryland Eastern Shore" or "Frostburg State University" will basically take anyone. The teachers grade not on how smart you are but basically on just the fact that you turned some work in and actually showed up to each class. They grade on a huge curve. Academics in general is getting much, much easier because colleges just want your money in this bad economy. UCLA has even gotten much easier than it was back in the 60s, but graduating from UCLA still makes you a pretty smart guy in my book. But do you agree that those Vienna's from the Bachelor and Kenny Chesney's (who graduate from East Tennessee State, or whatever) with a Business Management degree are no smarter than the average person. These degrees are weak. Third-rate universities and baccalaureate schools have dumbed down education. Your degree from KEUKA COLLEGE in KEUKA PARK, NY basically means ZILCH. Do you agree? Don't waste your money on this BS degree, at least go learn how to be an electrician. East Tennessee state isn't going to impress anyone at the family reunions. moreVoting Question: What are my chances of attending Johns Hopkins University?
What are my chances of getting into Johns Hopkins University? Okay, so i'm a junior in high school and I'm getting a little nervous about my chances of attending this school.
