Organize Mexico Vacations Questions asked

Resolved Question: Best all inclusive resort for 17-18 year old group of kids looking to party?

Hey guys, I am trying to organize a grad trip for a group of 10-15 kids who will be 17-18 years old. We are looking for a resort that we will be able to party at and maybe even have some other people to party with while we're there but that is not the point. We are just looking for a place that we can go and have a good time without being yelled at by older people or go to a place and find out we wont be served alcohol. We are fairly open minded about where this resort is but some ideas that I had would be: Dominican Republic, Mexico, Cuba and any other places like that. We will be flying out of Vancouver, BC. We are looking to spend under $1000 for the vacation package if possible which should not be too hard because I have found lots of packages for about $800. That price would be great because that leaves us with some spending money. So answer away! Dont hesitate if you have any questions for me, I am looking forward to hearing your suggestions! Thank you very much Austin more

Resolved Question: Could someone review my essay?

I would like any feedback on what to elaborate more on and anything to make it better. Discuss your involvement in and contributions to a community near your home, school or elsewhere. Please select an experience different from the one you discussed in the previous question, even if this experience also involved leadership. What did you accomplish? Often, many people believe that they have to visit a third-world country in order to solve problems like world hunger, illiteracy, poverty, etc. Often, many people may not realize these problems may hit a little bit closer to home. This past summer, I stayed at home rather than going on vacation because I had an internship at the local university. The internship was entitled “Health Literacy along the US-Mexico Border: A Cultural Approach to Health Communication.” During my internship, I also volunteered at the United Way of Southern Cameron County. Since then, I’ve realize just how much of an impact one can have in their local community. During my internship, I worked under Dr. Wells, a professor from The University of Texas Pan-American. A former health lobbyist, Dr. Wells was all about making changes that would benefit the ones who needed it the most. Although I always knew that I lived in one of the poorest cities in the U.S., I never realized the full extent of my city’s problems. My first focus group with Dr. Wells showed me the reality. We visited the home of a humble family; a family that was currently financially stable, but knew all too well about the struggles that their parents had faced. They talked about how it is necessary to break down language barriers, to make health more accessible to everyone despite their legal status, and about their worries of family members visiting doctors in Mexico that don’t always have the necessary credentials to examine their patients accurately but are relatively inexpensive. They also spoke about the difficulties of feeding families properly and how healthy foods are so costly in comparison to purchasing junk food. It was heartbreaking because I knew I could relate to everything they said. My family had been in the same position many years ago; when I was born, my parents only had five dollars in their pockets and each other. After I finished my daily work hours, I would go down to the United Way office that was down the street to help out and relax from a day of hard work. I volunteered for the Success By 6 program, so I would often organize the books that were needed for distribution in the lobby. I was always there to see all the people that would enter the office and needed assistance. One of the major issues people had were buying adequate food for their families after they lost their jobs. Jessica, one of the United Way administrative assistants, would often recommend them to visit food banks or local churches that give food for free or offer huge discounts on food bundles. However, she also confided that they might not always meet a family's full need. I quickly realized how the economic status of our country was affecting my community’s ability to properly nourish themselves and leading to the chronic health problems we have today. In my internship, I analyzed valuable data that will be used in my mentor’s study when it is published in the near future. After it has been revised, her grant will allow new programs to be formed in order to remedy the health issues that exist. This past October, as president of the History Club, I helped organize the first “Tunapalooza” in which we collected hundreds of tuna cans in order to help local food banks provide the low-fat protein we all need to be healthy. Although it may not be much, it’s a start. But then again, it only takes a push to get a wheel rolling.Btw, this is a scholarship essay. more

Resolved Question: Why do I keep having dreams of a certain celebrity? And almost in a row.?

I keep having dreams about a certain celebrity. I am a fan of his,but I wouldn't say I'm obsessed. Anyway,I keep having the same kind of theme when dreaming about this singer. I always end up somehow meeting him. The first dream: Our families were friends, and we all had a big sleepover. It was a cold day,and we had the fire place on and it was all nice and organized. And I said,"Aww,I don't have a blanket." And then he said,"It's okay,we can share mine." Then he winked at me and smiled. The second dream: I think this happened because I was on a vacation in Mexico. But anyway...In the dream,I was on a vacation. I was standing outside of my room and looking down at the people outside. Then all of a sudden, the celebrity I dreamed about, walked by and my eyes went wide. He looked up at me and smiled. Then before I knew it,he came up the stairs and just gave me a hug out of the blue. I hugged back, and then asked for an autograph and picture. He said of course, and gave me the autograph and took a picture with me. His girlfriend was with him but he didn't seem to care since he had his arm around my waist tightly and was really close. And then the dream ended there. This dream happened 2 nights ago, while I was on vacation. The second dream: I was at my friends house, and I walked into the backyard,I forgot why,but I was standing outside behind the pillar that was there. I looked over to their neighbors house, and saw HIM (the celebrity) there!! He was in his room, laying on his bed and eating chips. I was peeking out at him to see if it was just my eyes,or if it was really my celebrity crush. And it turned out it was him,and he saw me looking at him. He got up off his bed and came outside. He walked from his backyard,to my friends'. Him:"Hey shawty." Me:"Hiii..(:}" I said nervously. Him:"If you wanted to talk to me,you should've just came over." He smiled. Me:"I know but I was nervous." Him:"It's okay. I'm here now." He smiled again. I smiled too. Me:"Can I get your autograph and a picture??" Him:"Of course!!" He grinned. Then I told him I was going into the house to get a camera while he signed my autograph. I ran into the house and screamed. I shouted my two friends' names until they came. They asked if I was okay. And I was still screaming. I shouted:" (celebrities name) IS IN THE BACKYARD!! HE'S YOUR NEIGHBOR!!" Then they started screaming too. They went to get dressed while I got my camera. I ran back outside and saw that he had signed my autograph. It was on one of his pictures. My friends ran out and I noticed that he only signed theirs on a piece of paper. Then he turned back to me after signing theirs and said,"Yours is special." And he smiled at me and gave me a hug. I asked then if we could now take a picture. So we tried to take one,but it wasn't working. I tried from my iPod,phone, and camera. He was so nice and patient. Usually celebs are in a rush and move fast. But he was just super nice. I kept apologizing for what was happening, but he didn't mind. I noticed that he had his arm around me the WHOLLEEE time, even while I was trying to get the different technologies to see if they would work. There's much more to the dream, but I don't feel like writing it all. Anyway,I felt like I belonged to him. This dream happened last night/today. I've been thinking about it since I woke up today. I've never met him in real life though,so I don't understand why I dream of this. Can someone pleasseee explain?? I'm so frustrated because I really want to meet him,not just in my dream life, but in REAL LIFE. Answers will be strongly appreciated!!:) Please and Thank You. ♥ more

Resolved Question: What percentage of Puerto Ricans speak English? Do they prefer to speak English or Spanish to visitors?

I am planning on visiting Puerto Rico this summer and spending four days there on vacation. I am looking forward to seeing beautiful places like Old San Juan, the beaches, the El Yunque rain forest, and seeing the culture. The real reason I am asking this question about language is perhaps the opposite of what you are thinking. The truth is that I have traveled and studied Spanish abroad in Mexico and Ecuador and really enjoy the Spanish language and Latin American culture. My real concern is whether or not PR will have so many english speaking people, especially in tourist areas, that I will miss out on the cultural experience and find few opportunities to practice the language. Perhaps this is not so and just sounds like a silly question--I mean, who wouldn't appreciate your efforts to speak to them in their own language while visiting their homeland? However, I can remember as a language student in Mexico that if I went to a touristy area or on an organized tour it sometimes seemed like the guides, etc. wanted to speak to me in English even if I wanted to speak to them in Spanish. Fortunately, because I was enrolled in a language school and stayed with a host family these situations were the exception more than the rule and I normally had plenty of time to interact with locals in Spanish. However, in this trip to Puerto Rico I will be going just as a tourist, staying in a hotel, and probably taking organized tours. What do you recommend I do to get opportunities to see the "real" Puerto Rico and get to know some of the local people? I am sorry this question is so long... :/ more

Resolved Question: Tale of 2 disasters - in Gulf of Mexico oil spill tarnishes Obama while in Chile President's popularity rises?

THIS IS THE TALE OF TWO DISASTERS AND HOW ONE PRESIDENT SAW HIS POPULARITY RISE WHILE THE OTHER SAW HIS FALL. As the 33 miners continue to be pulled from 1/2 mile below the solid rock earth - Chile's President has seen his own popularity skyrocket before a single miner was pulled out of the earth. The accident at the Chilean mine happened around the same time that here in the USA the oil well which had spewed oil into the Gulf of Mexico was finally stopped and capped. For Obama who pronounced to Gulf Coast residence that he could not suck up the oil with a straw saw his approval numbers tumble. WHY? WHY DID CHILE'S PRESIDENT SEE POLITICAL SUCCESS WHILE OBAMA HAD A POLITICAL DISASTER? Here are some of the reasons I thought of - what do you think - and what else would you say lead to this tale of two presidents? For me the Chilean President reminded me most of Rudy Giuliani. Grant it that the disasters they met were very different in scope and time taken, but they both responded to the disaster in the same way - with leadership. The Chilean President took charge of the mine disaster and began by organizing the rescue. Once it was confirmed that the 33 miners were alive Chile's President went to the international community and asked for whatever help they could lend in technology and know how. Two the Chilean did not sugarcoat the situation. They told the truth of how difficult the rescue would be and how long it might take to effect a rescue. In contrast is Obama's management of the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill 1) Ignored it for several days 2) Declared that "he could not suck it up with a straw" 3) Declined international help at the start & never waved the Jones Act. 4) took multiple vacations during the disaster 5) Made only occasional press appearances to Gulf 6) Did not even talk to BP CEO for weeks 7) Lied about the amount of oil being spewed into Gulf 8) Blocked the media coverage of ecological damage 9) Checking life vest took priority over cleaning up oil I could go on and on and I am sure I still would forget stuff. Feel free to add in. Facts remain as the Oil Spewed into the Gulf of Mexico Obama's approval ratings dipped from majority approving to majority disapproving. THE TALE OF TWO DISASTERS & TWO PRESIDENTS - IF OBAMA HAD SHOWN HALF THE LEADERSHIP OF CHILE'S PRESIDENT WOULD OBAMA'S APPROVAL RATING BE SO LOW??? more

Voting Question: Is this a good Groom's Speech?

Here is a draft of what I plan to say at my wedding in a month. Does it sound good to you? Any suggestions? •A little over 14 months ago, I did one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. From sweating, to shaking, to repeating myself, to stalling... it was definitely a lot harder than I thought it would be... I PROPOSED to the most beautiful woman in the world. And thank God she said yes. But, to be completely honest, asking Sara to marry me wasn’t that much harder than asking her Dad for permission. I had planned on asking him while on vacation with Sara’s family in Maine. I had a whole speech written out to tell him how much I loved her and all sorts of stuff I was gonna say to him, but after stalling for a whole morning trying to build up the courage, I finally just walked up to him and said “So what do you think about me marrying your daughter.” The best part of the story was that when I chose to ask him, he happened to be in the middle of preparing lunch so the whole time I was threatening to take away his daughter he had a big steak knife in his hand. Thankfully, that conversation went well also, so.... with that... I want to start by thanking Sara’s parents Bob and Diana.  •Thank you for welcoming me into your family and for not threatening me with a steak knife when I asked for permission. Seriously though, thank you for bringing up the fantastic woman I’m marrying today and for trusting me to take care of her as well as you did.  •And to my mom and dad, I wanna give a big thank you for the countless things you have done for me. You’ve taught Sara and I so many important things that we’ll use on a regular basis...like how to make a pyramid while water-skiing... or when to go to Alabama if you wanna get stung by Jelly Fish... or how to imitate beonce in Mexico . . or how to catch a fish with an arrow and a string. You have played the biggest part in who I am today and I couldn’t have asked for better parents to teach me the things I’ve learned from you. So I just want to thank you for everything over the last 24 years. • •I could go on-and-on thanking everyone who has had an impact on Sara and I, but I’ll just give a big thank you to all of our family and friends who have made today possible. The bridesmaids, Maid of Honor, groomsmen, Best Man and everyone who helped us prepare for today. Thank you all for being here to celebrate with us and support us.  •A lot went into making today possible, but I give all the credit to the star of the show, my beautiful bride Sara. She did a lot of planning and organizing and all the while putting up with me. Sara... being at your side today is even better than I expected. We’ve done a lot and been a lot of places together...from riding a 200 foot swing in Alabama, trying to find a place to sleep in Tennessee, waking up to a leaky roof in Mexico, being offered drugs in Chicago, nervously proposing at the lakeside in Maine, and so much more, but none of that compares to getting married to the woman I have always hoped for. Thank you so much for saying Yes and giving me the opportunity to spend my life with you. You truly are amazing Sara... the fact that you know every little thing about me and you love me anyway. Thank you so much. You look so wonderful today. I love you more than you’ll ever know and promise to show you that every day from here on out. So... here’s to today, to all of our family and friends, to everyone who made today possible, and most of all to the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. My Wife. more

Resolved Question: Birth Certificate was lost and traveling to Mexico. Any help?

Not me, my Mom. Turned our house UPSIDE down looking for her birth certificate. She though it was in her folder labeled 'birth certificates' but it wasn't. She thinks it was probably accidently thrown away when we moved. Well, we planned on going to mexico either monday or tuesday (today is sunday!) but she can't travel across the border without her birth certificate so she can get a passport. Usually, we could just drive to the hospital and get another copy- she was born states away from where we live now, Riverside County, California. she tried to look to get it mailed to us-it would take 3-5 days and thats with paying $20.00. We don't care if we have to pay something, but there was another option to fax it over, and we dont own a fax but we have friends that do, and she accidentally clicked the ship so she went to the page where it asks her address, ect. Since it was an accident, she is trying to tell me she did press fax, but she didn't. Now I have totally lost the page, and I need to be able to fax over the certificate or my vacation isn't going to be able to happen (that would stink on ice). Can anybody find the page where I can fax a birth certificate? Or is there anything else I could do? She also lost her old passport, which is so odd because she is SO organized. Any help? Mady more

Resolved Question: If Arizona had 20,000 protesting the immigration law and only 7,00 supporting it over the weekend?

Does that tell us that polls showing that the majority of people support it are BOGUS? Has Obama gotten the message yet, that Americans want Immigration Reform and not controversial laws like Arizona's SB1070? http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/05/29/ap/national/main6530030.shtml Thousands March To Protest Ariz. Immigration Law (AP) TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Supporters and opponents of Arizona's tough new crackdown on illegal immigration held separate rallies in Phoenix, drawing thousands of people from around the country. Marchers carrying signs, banners and flags from the United States and Mexico filled a 5 mile stretch of central Phoenix, demanding that the federal government refuse to cooperate with Arizona authorities trying to enforce the law. The size of the crowd appeared to be at least 20,000 protesters, some bused in from around the country, braved 94-degree heat. Organizers had said they expected the demonstration to bring as many as 50,000 people. In San Francisco, about 500 people gathered Saturday night outside AT&T Park, where the Giants were playing the Arizona Diamondbacks. Leaders of the rally said it was organized to help push for a boycott against Arizona. About 7,000 supporters of Arizona's law gathered Saturday evening at a baseball stadium in suburban Tempe, encouraging like-minded Americans to "buycott" Arizona by planning vacations in the state. more

Resolved Question: What do U think More than 200 U.S. citizens killed in Mexico since '04?

A 22-year-old man from Houston and his 16-year-old friend are hauled out of a minivan in Mexico, shot execution style by thugs in a black Lincoln Continental, and left dead in the dirt. The body of a 65-year-old nurse from Brownsville is found floating in the Rio Grande after a visit to a Mexican beauty salon. An American retiree, an ex-Marine, is stabbed to death as he camps on a Baja beach with his dog. More than 200 U.S. citizens have been slain in Mexico’s escalating wave of violence since 2004 — an average of nearly one killing a week, according to a Houston Chronicle investigation into the deaths. Rarely are the killers captured. The U.S. State Department tracks most American homicides abroad, but the department releases minimal statistics and doesn’t include victims’ names or details about the deaths. The Chronicle examined hundreds of records to document the personal tragedies behind them. “I’m no longer the same person,” said Paula Valdez, a Houston mother whose son was slain near her childhood home in Mexico’s Guerrero state in 2004. More U.S. citizens suffered unnatural deaths in Mexico than in any other foreign country — excluding military killed in combat zones — from 2004 to 2007, State Department statistics show. Most died in the recent outbreaks of violence in border cities — Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez and Nuevo Laredo. Although, historically, even Mexico’s most violent urban centers had homicide rates below those of major U.S. cities, recent attacks and border violence driven by drug demand have escalated well beyond limited narco-executions. Juarez last year ranked among the world’s most murderous cities. The Chronicle analysis showed some American homicide victims were involved in organized crime. The dead include at least two dozen victims labeled hitmen, drug dealers, human smugglers or gang members, based on published investigators’ accusations. Others were drug users or wanted for crimes in the United States. But in at least 70 other cases, U.S. citizens appear to have been killed while in Mexico for innocent reasons: visiting family, taking a vacation, or simply living or working there. Locations and intentions In an interview with the Chronicle, Mexican Congressman Juan Francisco Rivera Bedoya of Nuevo Leon, a former prosecutor who heads the national Public Safety Commission, said he believes most American victims get killed after crossing the border to participate in illegal activities or venturing into unsafe areas. “Tourists visiting cathedrals, museums and other cultural centers are not at risk,” he said. Across Mexico, more than 5,000 lives were taken last year, including police, public officials, journalists and bystanders, with seemingly little regard for age, social status or nationality, Mexican authorities report. Mutilated bodies have been draped on highway overpasses or posed in schoolyards and public squares. Authorities have uncovered mass graves known as narcofosas and body disposal sites, where killers dissolved corpses in barrels of chemicals. At least 40 Americans were among those killed and dumped in gruesome methods favored by cartel killers, the Chronicle found. Two Texan teens were victims of an American serial killer in Nuevo Laredo, who bragged to a friend in a recorded cell phone call that he stewed their remains in vats. Recent border victims include at least 15 U.S.-born children and teenagers. In 2008, Austin Kane Danielsen, an 18-year-old Kansan visiting Mexico for the first time, was attacked, beaten and kicked after leaving a disco in Matamoros. His attackers used a pickup to drag his brutalized body 30 yards and dumped it next to a railroad track. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/side2/6252174.html more

Resolved Question: Do you have children who are completely different in their approach to life, raised the same...?

...way, and yet complete .....opposites?I have two daughters that are only 2 years apart. They are like night and day.One is very responsible, a neat freak, and totally organized and methodical. (She gets on my nerves, but I am very proud of her), and the other one who is a complete slob, overly emotional, and always trying to just get a grip on her life every day.One is up to her eyeballs in debt, and still planning a trip to Mexico, and the other has already started a plan for her retirement (she's only 27) and seems to have everything under control. It's weird, but I relate to both of them in different ways. It seems they are a combination of myself, but neither one of them is just like me.Emotionally I relate to the slob, but moneywise, I relate to the younger one, and can't understand how you can plan a vacation when you are in debt already.I used to think that environment had a bigger effect on one's personality, but now I don't think so.What's your take on this? more

Resolved Question: Mission Trip Crafts??

I need 2 or 3 crafts to go along with the story of the Bread and Fish, 2 or 3 crafts for the story of the Nativity and 2 or 3 to go along with the story of The Last Supper. I'm going to Mexico in August for a mission trip for our church and are organizing a Vacation Bible School down there and we really need some fun craft ideas for these stories. Also keep in mind that they speak spanish and we don't speak it fluently so the crafts need to be pretty easy to describe to the kids. Also they need to keep the kids busy for a bit of time so they shouldn't be something comparable to coloring sheets. THanks so much for any ideas you have. more
