Poems About Summer Vacation Family Vacations Questions asked

Open Question: What do you think of my poem?

This is my poem. I'm just going to say the poem right now so you can read it and then i will explain it. I want to know what you think of it, what you liked and didnt like, where there should be punctuation, and i want to give more detail in the poem about the setting and characters so also think about how i can do that. The poem is called Deep Sea Fishing; The first time I got on the boat in a while I saw you standing there With your fishing gear Your hat and mud boots were shades of gray The smell of fish in the bay We drove off into the deep ocean blue What I felt about you I didnt have a clue By the end of the trip I knew I would flip If I saw you again Two years later, August 13, 2008 I went through the gate And saw the first mate Unless my eyes played a trick It was the same guy back from 2006 I saw the blond hair, the hat, the mud boots too And thought, it was all too good to be true My heart skipped a beat I almost fainted and fell off my feet I knew it was him Or an identical twin We said hello And got ready to go I was happy as could be Even though my family teased me We hit our first fishing spot I guess we really hit the jackpot Turned away I felt an enormous tug And screamed right away I turned around, the first mate was right there Ready to help in the time of my scare It was my wish To catch a bluefish That night was a lot of fun I wonder whether or not this is done Or if there's fate Between me and the first mate So now i'll explain it. I think the poem was a little confusing and unclear. A bunch of people in my family were on the boat. There was about 40 people on the boat. Out of those 40 about 20 or 25 of them were my family. I have a huge extended family and some people went deep sea fishing some didnt. We go on vacation to the same beach every year during the summer and this is one of the things we do on the vacation. What happened was the first time i had gone deep sea fishing in a long time, cuz i was a little scared to go for a while before that i was about 13 and had a crush on the first mate who was a bit older than me like probable about 18. I wanted ti see him again the next year we went but i didnt. Then the year after that which was two years after the first time i met him cuz he was the first mate, i saw him again. I actually saw him a third time just last summer too but i didnt include that in the poem. I dont know if i should. So thats the poem and my explanation. Can you tell me what oyu think of it, how to improve it, and if u understood it and anything else u want to add. more

Resolved Question: Would you be interested in reading my save the world poem?

A Poem to Save Our World © Every day my heart shatters, my soul is torn Day after day our hatred for each other has grown We’ve killed men, we’ve killed women and we’ve killed children We’ve even killed babies before they were born * * * Our hearts have blackened when they were once white as snow We’ve torn countries and families with every shot and blow We’ve put out the candle of hope so it would never again glow This is all our own doing and nothing else’s throw * * * The Earth complains every night and every day “Why do this to me?” it asks with tears, no foul, no play Animals kicked out of their own forests when wanting to stay Trees cut down, no mercy, and on the ground now they lay * * * Dolphins, whales and even sharks too Mad at humans for not keeping their oceans blue Children being orphaned, and why? They haven’t got a clue Every three seconds a human in Africa dies, oh yes it’s true * * * “You’ve got your head in the clouds” people might tell me But I will not stop till I get every creature free! Wars all over and all the big ones care for is freakin’ tea! I’ll ask for help from every one and I shall even plea * * * “You can’t save the world” they say, but at least I try I’ll try every way there is, and if need be, I will even fly It will not be an easy job, I won’t lie But I won’t sit here while humans, animals and all the plants die * * * All around the world, wars, poverty and starvation It will not all go away with a simple incantation Let’s stick together and be a family, not just a nation Don’t be shallow and only think of your summer vacation * * * What’s the point of fighting when there’ll be nothing to fight for? You’re healthy and you have your family, so what do you need more? Children playing in the back yard with pets whined up on the floor They bleed to death, so did you have to? Or were you just having a bore? * * * Close your eyes and imagine that happening to your own kids Babies all over needing bandages and a lot of meds Hospitals so full that they’re in need of much more beds The problem with you is if any one wants peace then off with their heads * * * You don’t even try to listen to what we’re saying Why don’t you understand what all of us are doing? We lay in our beds every night just wishing Wishing to be heard, understood or thanked for trying * * * You say sacrifices must be made for more freedom What I think you need is the strongest word of wisdom And if all this keeps up I‘ll announce treason Don’t waste you lives bickering with guns and just live ‘em * * * You think you’re all so smart to have survived till now on Earth But animals did it first and you know it’s the truth So stop and think about what all of this is worth Stop killing every creature that gives birth * * * Our grandchildren won’t see polar bears, is that fare? Animals are put to sleep to make some purses and fake hair Why do I even bother? You’ll never learn to share And you who only talk get a move on instead of just glare * * * Mr. Harrison Ford is against killing tigers and with him I am One day I’ll be as big as him and you’ll all be saying “Yes, Ma’am” Then you’ll do something instead of sitting eating P.B and Jam And when you do, then you’ll truly have true (Salam) * * * That’s an Arabic word which means peace In Arabic, English, Spanish or even words of Greece You’ll never understand the true meaning of the word (peace) Well, I’ll bet you you’ll get it if you ask your little niece * * * “Stand for what you believe in” is what I always say I’ll do what ever possible till my hair turns grey I’ll destroy whatever’s in my way like a prey “You’ll give up one day” you say but I say “No way” * * * You don’t even listen to an animal saying “Have mercy” You should’ve known you would have the curtsy You’re feelings died after your first kill, so you don’t see I’ll have help from every land and every sea * * * How much time do we have? Not a lot I won’t stop moving unless I get caught And I’ll need help from all you lot I’ll need all the courage, dedication and words you’ve got * * * Use every power you have and don’t hold back If we all unite together we’ll be as tall as Shaq! And we’ll whiten their hearts which have turned black We’ll win this fight with a shout and a smack * * * So join me troops and let’s lose no time Let’s get together; it’s our time to shine Don’t think about it and here just sign I know for sure we’ll do it and bells shall chime END Comments Are Welcome more

Resolved Question: Teacher's Birthday??????????????????????????

I have a teacher who is amazing, and she is turning 39 soon and I wanted to do something special for her. I pulled some ideas from this website and was wondering which one sounds more thoughtful and meaningful. Please Answer.[: I love you! 1. Movie Night I am a teacher as well as a mom. I receive wonderful gifts from my students each year, but one of the most creative gifts I received was a "movie night" kit wrapped in a popcorn box (from the theater). Inside were several packages of microwave popcorn, Twizzlers, Junior Mints, and Dots, and gift cards to a local video store! It was a gift that my family enjoyed as much as I did. 2. Spas & Spoiling Before school ended we gave our teacher a $100 gift certificate to a local day spa where she could induldge in a facial, manicure, pedicure, massage -- whatever she chose. We included a brochure listing their services along with the gift certificate. Each family was asked to contribute $5 -- an easy way to give a nice gift. Variation: We purchased a gift certificate for a manicure, and on the card we wrote "This is for you -- after all, your hands are molding the future. Enjoy!" She loved it. We have talked about maybe switching it to a pedicure this year and including this note: "Please enjoy this gift for you. After all, you are busy changing lives ... let someone else change your polish." 3. "The Giving Tree" with a Sapling My favorite gift for a teacher is the book "The Giving Tree," by Shel Silverstein, along with a small tree for the teacher to plant. 4. Notepads If your child is just beginning to write, this teacher gift is very special. Have your child write out "From the Desk of" at the top of a sheet of paper and the teacher's name at the bottom. Then ask him to draw something simple like the sun or a flower next to the teacher's name. Use a black felt-tip pen and a plain sheet of white paper. Then take the masterpiece to a copy shop and have it made into note pads! If it doesn't all fit on two lines, just make copies and cut and paste in place. We had ours reduced so that the pads were smaller and less expensive. The copy shop can help you with this. The teachers loved it! Variation: As an early-childhood educator, my all-time favorite gift was a notepad from a student. Her mother had encouraged her to draw a picture of herself and me, then took the drawing to a local copy shop and had it reduced in size and placed in the corner of a 5x7 notepad. Along the bottom, the pad was inscribed with "A note from Mrs. Murphy ..." I've already told the mom that I hope her son (who is in my class this year) will draw me another picture for a new notepad! 5. Photos I took photos at a field trip and presented a collage of the day to the teacher. Since I have a digital camera, I was able to send it in the very next day. 6. Poem My son's class studied different poetry styles, so with his end-of-year gift we included a poem he had written about his teacher. Sponge - to soak up the overflow when your brain is too full Candle - to light a small mind Modeling Clay - for being a great model Smarties Candy - to help stay smart Highlighter Pen - for being a big highlight of my life Glue - for holding everything together Bubbles - to keep a bubbly personality Cup - when yours is overflowing Marbles - to replace those lost from time to time Crayon - to color your day Hanger - to hang in there -- summer vacation is almost here! 7. Voting Question: poem analysis help!!!?

William cut a hole in his Levi's pocket so he could flop himself out in class behind the girls so the other guys could see and shit what guts we all said. All Konga wanted to do over and over was the rubber band trick, but he showed everyone how, so nobody wanted to see anymore and one day he cried, just cried until his parents took him away forever. Maya had a Hotpoint refridgerator standing in his living room, just for his family to show anybody who came in that they could afford it. Me, I got a french kiss, finally, in the catholic darkness, my tongue's farthest half vacationing loudly in another mouth like a man in Bermudas, and my body jumped against a flagstone wall, I could feel it through her thin, almost nonexistent body: I had, at that moment, a hot girl on a summer night, the best of all the things we tried to do. Well, she let me kiss her anyway, all over. Or it was just a flagstone wall with a flow in the stone, an understanding cavity for burning young men with smooth dreams - the true circumstance is gone, the true circumstances about us all then are gone. But when I kissed her, all water, she would close her eyes, and they into somewhere would disappear, whether she was there or not, I remember her, clearly, and she moves around the room, sometimes, until I sleep. I have lain on the desert in watch low in the back of a pick-up truck for nothing in particular, for stars, for the things behind stars, and nothing comes more than the moment: always now, here in a truck the moment again to dream of making love and sweat, this time to a woman, or even to all of them in some allowable way, to those boys, then who couldn't cry, to the girls before they were women, to friends, me on my back, the sky over me pressing its simple weight into her body on me, into the bodies of them all, on me. can anyone analyze this poem? more

Resolved Question: Am I in danger of soon being stalked? Maybe I'm already being stalked? HELP!?

Well, in summer of 2007 I was 14, and I went to my close friend's block party. It was all fun, just me, him and a few of our other friends and some of his neighbors who are around our age hanging out in his pool and his backyard/house. Now, after a while, one of his neighbors(who was only 17 at the time), started hitting on me and stuff. At the time, I didn't mind it, because I thought he was cute and I could use the practice flirting. However, later, my friend gave me his s/n and him mine. We talked online quite a bit, and it was all fun. He was nice and stuff, but I felt like he was getting a little too interested in my personal life too quickly. Then, I went on vacation with my family for a couple of days, and he found my cell phone number in my friend's phone and started texting and calling me. ALL the time. By that point, I was getting a little weirded out by him. So, after a while, I'd had enough, so I blocked all ways for him to contact me. I didn't hear from him again after that. During July 2008, however, I went to this same block party as the year before. Again, I saw him (this time, he was 18 turning 19 in a few weeks), but this year he was a little more....withdrawn. So, I stupidly decided to talk to him, and apologize for cutting off all communications with him. After that, we began talking through instant messages a little more, and gradually we started talking multiple times a day. We were texting again, etc. But then, I started feeling a bit uncomfortable about it, because two of my close friends (the neighbor and one of his close friends) told me that he had told them that he liked me. I had suspected it anyway, but it was worse to get confirmation. He wrote me creepy poems, songs, etc. and it was really beginning to scare me. So, our mutual close friend asked him to stop talking to me unless I talked to him first. And then, I didn't hear from him much after that. But today, in the middle of class, I get a call from him. With a voicemail, where there is some background noise and then it hangs up. This happened 6 more times after this, over a 4 hour time period. I'm really beginning to get scared, because 1. why would he still have me in his contact list? 2. he's 19 and I'm only 15, and 3. I don't want him to talk to me anymore. I haven't talked to him since mid-august, so I really don't understand why I would even be in his contact list still. What should I do? I'm really feeling a tad violated, he knows a lot about me that I never told him; he confided this in his neighbor who, in turn, told me about this. What should I do?! more

Resolved Question: Will you please tell me what you think about this poem I wrote.?

This is my "copycat version" of the Night Before Christmas, by Clement C. Moore. I have to read this to my L.A. class on Monday. Will you please read it, tell me what you think, and offer suggestions. Please be as honest as possible. Thank you. Twas the hour before summer And all through the school The students were celebrating, Everyone was acting cool. They talke to one Another will delight And all of them shared Their plans for that night. They spoke of movies And family vacations And other things They do for recreation. Then they all started talking About their memories of that year, Sharing stories and jokes As summer vacation grew near. Now it's almost time For that school bell to ring... Everyone was awaiting The joy summer would bring. ***This poem has to be 5-10 stanzas long.****Best answer will be chosen based on whoever told whether they liked it or not, told why, and gave suggestions and did that the best... not necessarily the first answer or the one that said the nicest things about my poem. :-)I'm in the 8th grade. more
